honestly, the fandom dismisses wars trauma a little too much. Have you noticed it’s always never brought up in his character studies? And when it is, it’s totally brushed off him and cia had a WEIRDDD age gap. It’s also weird hyrule warriors never acknowledges this. I honestly don’t think it’s gonna be recognized in LU but idk. I’m not talking about headcanons (unless otherwise specified), I’m just talking about my experience with the game and everything else. All of this is from MY perspective interacting with the canon material from both Hyrule Warriors and Linked Universe. Also! A huge reason I started yapping so much on this blog was because I saw a lot of people either actively disliking Wars, making fucking INSANE comments about his body, overly sexualizing him, or just straight up dismissing him all together and it helped me get over my posting anxiety because it genuinely made me so upset. He’s been my favorite character since only a few posts into LU (i originally liked Twilight better based sheerly on design but it took like only a few posts before that changed), and I love HW Link in general, and I thought it was actually crazy that more people didn’t like him. I’ve written several of my own characters studies on him, some of which I’ve posted, others lay trapped in my old laptop in the form of a full on analysis paper, never to see the light of day

You can send a full grown man to war and he will come back with trauma, imagine what happens when you grab some poor teenager and tell him everything relies on him. Literally forget Cia for a minute, Link as a teenager was taken and shoved into a full on war where his men turned on him and in order to survive, he had to kill. Monsters and hylians alike, it was him or them, and he’s the one who made it out. Not to mention he was constantly running all over the battle field trying to prevent the hylian captains from being defeated, and he most certainly lost many people he cared about just because he couldn’t get there in time. He had to carry around the guilt that this war was started because some sorceress was obsessed with him ON TOP of that

This was said earlier by an anon on a post I reblogged, and I’ve been saying it myself for months but I will say it again: If Warriors had been a girl and been obsessed over that same way, I fucking GUARANTEE you people would be taking it more seriously

I literally just typed in the character name and the game she’s from and that is what google had to say about her. If an older man was described as ‘harboring serious affections’ and having a ‘desire to claim’ a teenage girl I literally don’t think it would’ve been glossed over or ignored like it is

I don’t think nintendo was ever gonna elaborate or really recognize it in the game, they never go super in depth on anything in Zelda games from my experience, and I doubt Jojo will really get into it in LU mainly just because she has so much going on with eight other dudes and potentially two more (based on the header on the linked universe blog)

I saw a lot of characterizations of Warriors and opinions of him that made me so confused and also a bit mad, such that he is a womanizer or a stupid twink (of which he is neither), and that’s a huge reason I started writing fanfiction for this fandom. Firstly to just create more content for my favorite character because I rarely saw any that focused on him, and secondly because I didn’t like some (NOT ALL) of how I was seeing him characterized. (i cannot emphasize enough: NOT ALL people in the fandom characterized him this way, I saw plenty of amazing and beautiful characterizations of Warriors)

I do not think he is a womanizer at all, in fact I fully believe his flirtatious behavior is a defense mechanism. I think his ‘woman problems’ are the fact that he’s afraid of women (especially older women) he doesn’t know or trust, but also that’s just my opinion. And I am genuinely a bit worried that now that people have stopped talking about how they noticed he seemed off a few updates ago and now that they’re saying he’s back to normal that people are going to start reducing him to a stupid dramatic twink again, as if Warriors was not the one who came up with the initial plan to fight Dink and was not the first one to fight him. As if this is not a man who lead a god damn army. As if everything he’s done and everything he is no longer matters because he’s ‘pretty’

anyways I have a lot of thoughts about him in general and im just glad the fandom has been treating him better as of late, but i am a bit worried it’s just gonna go back to how it was

I adore Eddie falling asleep in front of the live stream and everything that follows

But now I’m also thinking of Steve one day seeing the live stream is still on but he has no idea how to turn it off so he has to ask Chat for help which he has to find first and it just turns into this hilarious quest of Chat trying to explain how to turn it off while Steve barely finds the chat to even read it

This is so painfully in line with this AU’s Steve and I love it so much. It’s perfect.

This time Steve is in the room when Eddie falls asleep, so he’s aware that there is a live-stream going on. He hasn’t been seen on camera, but the audience can hear him when he says, “You know what I’ve been craving?”

Followed by, “Benny’s Burgers. Isn’t that crazy?”

Followed by, “…Ed?”

Followed by, “Oh.”

Because Eddie’s eyes drifted shut ten minutes ago and they have yet to open. You can kinda hear movement and then Steve is wandering into the frame with his hands on his hips. He looks at the camera and frowns at it before he pokes Eddie in the arm, “Ed. Eddie, babe. You left the – the thing going.”

Eddie slumps over a little more and Steve sighs, running his hands through his hair. He doesn’t try to wake Eddie up anymore, just twists him around so he’s laying more comfortably. He throws a blanket over him and then wipes his hands of the whole situation. It is not his problem.

Except that makes him feel bad, so he comes back to the studio.

At first he just sits the phone facedown and leaves again, but he doesn’t like that either. What if Eddie talks in his sleep about the Upside Down (something that he has never done before), or has a bad nightmare, or farts and the whole internet hears it. Steve doesn’t want him to be embarrassed so, “It’s not rocket science, Harrington. Let’s figure this out.”

It might be rocket science.

For the audience at home, they get to experience Steve Harrington up close and personal because Steve is (1) not wearing his glasses and (2) cannot figure out how to end the stream. He keeps tapping at the screen, looking more and more annoyed as he does it, and then he stands up and walks out of the room.

Steve puts the phone on the coffee table in the living room, and then leaves again. After another five minutes, he comes back. The audience at home gets to watch this man mutter to himself as he places the phone in different rooms and then decides he doesn’t like it there and comes back for it (“The bathroom? Really, Harrington? What are you doing?”).

Frustrated with wasting the last hour of his life (much to the amusement of the people watching), Steve picks up the phone again and glares at it. He is sitting on the floor in the living room, squinting at the phone as he jabs at the screen again, “Tell me how to turn you off.”

Steve frowns, “Where’s the chatlog? I know there’s a – oh my god.”

“There was nothing wrong with AOL messenger!” Steve rants to the screen as he continues to poke at it. “I had AOL and I was happy. Everything was where it should be. Myspace was fine! I had a Myspace, but this – Oh! I got it. I got it! Hello. Can someone tell me how to turn this off?”

There are a lot of people in the chat. Most of them are excited that Steve is there and they’re gushing in the comments about how much they love him and appreciate him. Some people are asking questions about him. There are people begging him not to end the stream and others telling him to wake Eddie up.

There are even people who are genuinely trying to help him, but it’s all coming at Steve really fast. It’s sudden and overwhelming, and – “I’m too dyslexic for this.”

“I’ve got a brain like scrambled eggs, can – just one of you talk and tell me how to end this. Can you do that?” Steve asks, and everybody comments at once. “So, no. You can’t do that. Great.”

Steve rubs at his eyes and then does what he should’ve done in the first place and calls Dustin. He has his phone on speaker so the audience can hear when Dustin answers. Steve only says, “Help me.”

“With the stream or in general?”

“How do you –“ Steve stops, makes eye contact with the camera and then rolls his eyes. “Have I not suffered enough for you.”

“No.”

Steve has a look on his face like he’s about to remind Dustin that he was literally tortured in the name of scientific discovery but thinks better of it and says, “I’m telling Erica.”

“Fine, I’ll tell you how to end it.”

Dustin starts walking Steve through how to end the live stream but right before Steve hits the right button to end it all, both his phone and Eddie’s phone are knocked out his hands and you hear him yelp as he’s tackled over. The chat explodes and Dustin’s like, “Where’d you go? Steve?”

Then you hear the sound of a kiss and Eddie say, “I’ve missed you.”

There’s a smile in Steve’s voice when he says, “It’s been an hour.”

“Tell me about it.”

There’s the sound of another kiss and then, very loudly, Steve says, “Turn off your live-stream!”

Ya'll heard of disabled!Nightmare but may I interest you with some mute!Horror (And additionnal headcanons) ?

Horror isn't totally mute, it's more like aphasia than mutism, which means he has trouble speaking and finding the right words and is practically incapable of forming a full sentence, he also has trouble reading and, by extent, writing.

He became aphasic after Undyne's spear impaled his skull, which obviously caused a lot of brain damage and particularly in the area in charge of the speech, reading and all.

When he joined the bad sanses nobody noticed his struggles at first, they already had Dust who didn't talk much (he isn't mute, just doesn't talk a lot) so they thought he was just the silent type like him. But it soon became clear there was a broblem when he started mixing up words whenever he tried to speak, couldn't decipher written instructions or struggled to write his reports.

However they first thought that maybe he didn't know how to read/write, but it wasn't logical as he was still a Sans, so that meant he was a scientific in his youth, that he must have known how to read and write, so the problem might have been something else entirely.

Surprisingly it was Killer who came up with the first hypothesis, one of which was that Horror was dyslexic, which was close, but not quite that. After some time and researches they eventually managed to find out he was aphasic.

At that point Dust took the responsibility to teach everyone sign language, since he was the only one knowing it at the time, so that Horror could communicate easier and the others would understand him. He still has troubles sometimes with hand placement but he can now communicate !

As for the instructions, Nightmare gave him a magnetophone so he can hear them rather than read them. For the reports it's usually Killer or Dust who write them for him, he signs what he wants them to write and they translate.

On the fluffy side, they sometimes read him stories since he cannot read them himself.

Now for the additionnal headcanons that have nothing to do with disability:

- he likes woodcarving, he often sculpts little animals and give them to each member of the gang (including Nightmare) to show his affection towards them, they are very pretty !

- he cannot see pictures in his mind, I don't know how to describe it but like when he thinks about an apple, for exemple, he doesn't see an apple in his mind, he has the concept, the word, he knows what it looks like and can describe it but he just doesn't visualize it. Same when he sleeps, his dreams are made of sounds and sometimes shades of lights, but no images (aphantasia)

- his pupil will round up like a cat when he sees something or someone he likes

- he's very strong physically but very weak when it comes to magic because his magic had to adapt in his world in order to keep him alive, he has a strong immune system due to that but struggles a lot with magic attacks such as creating bones, blasters or simply teleporting, that is why he mainly uses his axe. Also due to his weak magic he needs to have a balance between food and sleep, if he doesn't sleep or eat properly he will pass out and won't wake up until his body regained enough energy, sometimes it's only a few hours but if he pushed his limits too far it can last a few days

It all started when Steven asked you about your day as he walked through the door. He set down his messenger bag and turned towards you. It was too late, the waterfall of words already was released. 

You began explaining how you dived deeply into your hyperfixation (or specific subject you would be info dumping about)

You smiled wide as you explained, and his heart melted at the sight of you.

are you the type of person that stims when you get excited? (I shore am) Steven will smile if you begin to stim happily while explaining. 

He loves knowing that you are so excited that you can’t contain the energy, you have to physically let the happiness out 

He simply smiled as he sat down next to you. He nodded and began asking clarifying questions.

“So, what you’re saying is…” “Theoretically then…” “Wait! That means…*He connects to another concept to allow you both to be engaged*”

He’ll wraps his arms around you if you’ll let him, holding onto you as you speak about your topic

He will praise your enthusiasm for the topic and vast knowledge. 

“Love, you’re simply a genius.” “I love hearing your view and knowledge” “That’s so fascinating!” 

Steven knows exactly what it’s like to need to explain one specific topic. He knows that feeling, that specific feeling like pasta water boiling over on the stove. 

He holds your hands (with your permission) as you speak, he likes showing you that he’s there with you and listening, it's a gentle reminder.

He feels it's incredibly important for you to be comfortable enough to share these moments of informational rambling. So he tries his best to show you he’s interested, he hears you and that you are loved. 

Marc Spector:

He is very caught off guard

Once he knows you aren’t upset or in distress he sighs heavily, pinching the bridge of his nose before nodding and listening

He tosses his keys to the side as he nods listening to you

Marc doesn’t know fully how to react but he likes to hear your voice. The excitement and sincerity in your voice as you speak makes him smile, just a little. 

Marc makes his way over to you finally after he completes his after work routine

Like Steven I think Marc would wrap his arms around you but he wouldn’t know much more than that to show he cares about your information

He does though, He loves you, and he wants to see you happy. He simply doesn’t do emotions well. 

(My poor emotionally unavailable boy. He just needs a hug.)

He silently listens and only replies when you ask him if he follows, 

Finally once you’re done you look at him with a small little sigh and smile and he melts. 

You see it in his eyes and the stern expression he always has just softens. 

you can tell how much he loves you in this moment, the pure love just radiating, but he won’t say it. He won’t explain the feeling he is experiencing. 

But he loves you and you don’t necessarily need the words that he struggles to say, because it’s obvious in his actions. 

and god, the feeling is mutual.

Jake Lockley:

this man has no fucking clue what you are rambling about

He will freeze in the doorway of the small apartment, hand still on the doorknob. He’s so confused and you’re talking a mile an hour in an excited tone. He cannot understand you at this moment. 

Once Jake gets to you he will take his gloves off, stuff them in his pocket and put his hands on your shoulders (or a more comfortable spot if this can trigger you like it does me. Essentially he wants to ground you.) 

“Mi amor, por favor, slow down. No comprendo.” ("My love, Please, Slow down I don't understand")

Or alternatively, he May think something’s wrong with how excited and rushing towards him you are. He puts a hand on your arm and looks around the apartment then back at you. “Que pasa?? Está bien???” ("What's wrong?? Are you okay???")

He would then notice your smile and beaming expression and relax a little “Dios mío,” ("oh my god")you gave this Poor man a heart attack but he loves you all the same. 

he will listen but he will make you repeat yourself again

But it’s only because he cares so much. He wants to understand, so if it takes him several times to understand he will put that effort in.

He nods a lot, especially when it finally clicks in his little murderous, spanish, brain.

When he asks a clarifying question he always ends it with “yeah?” Ex: “so when you say the sun is a star you mean like that fucking ball in the sky, yeah?” 

He sits next to you, his arms on his knees as he hunches over listening. He doesn’t look at you he’s looking most likely at the floor or the wall as he focuses on your words. 

He tries really hard to make you feel heard but he legit makes that grumpy Spanish man expression the entire time. But you know this is just how he is, he loves you, he really does. 

This man keeps a little notebook, like those ones for detectives that fit in pockets. He keeps one of those in his jacket pocket and writes down facts he wants to remember about your favorite topics. He is like a dad who is trying to keep up with the trends. 

Not that he would let you necessarily see said notebook, he keeps it hidden in the inside pocket with a small pen or golf pencil in the spiral of the notepad. 

He pats your knee like a dad too, to show you he’s there. He’s present with you. It’s subtle but it’s his own way of letting you know he’s trying to understand. 

He would move heaven and earth for you, he loves your intelligence, your insight, he loves you. All of you, no matter your flaws, perfections, your needs. 

So if being heard is what you need in this moment you know damn well he will give you everything he can to make it happen.

Quiet quitting is one of the most bizarre things to me to be discussed in 2022. 

It’s mostly bizarre to me, because of the entitlement older generations have towards younger generations and the ignorance they enforce upon my generation, especially in Germany, where I grew up.

You have older generations, usually the generation of my parents, calling us lazy, unable to work well under pressure, etc. I’d like to give insight into the fact that our school system was designed to recreate a work-like state from the age of six. You go to school, learn stuff, go home, do unpaid labor, called “homework”, which has to be good, otherwise you’re labeled as stupid and unable to keep up and have to repeat a year in school. I partially had a workload of 12 hours per day, not because I was poorly structured, but because I had four school subjects per day, with four different kinds of homework which all required at least 30, if not 90 minutes of investment, to do homework properly. Add to that my dyslexia and you get at least 30 minutes more than others. But even non dyslexic students sat there for hours doing homework. I even had my mother do my homework for me, because the work load was too much. Let that sink in.

Then you have a system that rewards pupils who are never sick, by pointing out how there is one kid in class with the most sick days, as though it is their fault that they get sick. Meanwhile you have underpaid and overworked school staff who cannot handle instances of bullying accordingly, resulting in pupils being more sick, especially mentally due to continuous bullying. You create a place that is literally designed to be hostile to human nature, by forcing people to sit still for multiple hours a day, move during breaks to „prevent health problems“ in the future, but give so much homework that hobbies and personal interests can barely be done, and usually if one performs bad at school they have to quit their hobbies because they need to focus more on school or they have their parents cancel their hobbies for them (if they could afford a hobby to begin with), resulting in more stress, because of less possibilities to destress. Then you have heavy school bags that literally fuck up people‘s backs for life, because they have to carry like 10-20kgs of books and folders per day (this was my reality, I kid you not). Then we had no proper food at our cafeteria (for the first four years we had no cafeteria at all, but had to go to school until 3 or 4pm, with no proper food). 

Then you have weird power dynamics with teachers who bully you and abuse their power and give you bad grades, just because they think a person with dyslexia should not get the chance to go to university, thereby giving them bad grades, by not answering any of their questions during exams (also something that happened to me and other students as well). And if it’s not dyslexia there is another aspect that a teacher will hate about you and mock you for and treat you like you’re less than a human being than others.

Then we entered a school system that was changed by graduating one year earlier to go to university sooner in Germany, but the school books were not ready for that so we had to carry two books per subject at times, because the subjects we discussed required two books of two school grades. We had no coherent teachings and had to read a lot of stuff at home, by our selves, because the curriculum to teach us properly was not yet developed. And we were asked to understand it all and there was never time for any questions.

Then we finish with a degree, have terrible payments, cannot afford a reasonable lifestyle and are forced to suck it up. Then we have shortages in almost every area, a pandemic we went through a financial crisis, a war that effects the economy and destabilizes a lot in other countries, we have a climate crisis which no politican seems to take seriously enough to do proper change, basically my generaiton in Germany will not have any rent and no positive prospects for the future. Far right extremism seems to be on the rise world wide.

I had my first burn-out in fourth grade and had to go to therapy, because school life was so tough and nobody did anything. I had a parent at home who created immense pressure and guilt if I failed, who regularly assaulted me verbally.

And now our “generation is just lazy”? That shoe just doesn’t fit.

augh found my old post abt pjo and disability from before the show came out but it was on ye olde blog so i’m literally just gonna copy and paste, 3, 2, 1—

ok now that i’ve got it on the brain, i want to talk about disability in pjo and specifically how calling percy jackson dumb or treating him as such is not only a mischaracterization, but ableism. as a quick note, i’m keeping this to just percy to avoid having this already long post be even longer, but there are other disabled characters in pjo worthy of discussion, though i hit many of the same points in this post. i bring up percy specifically because he is mostly the character i have seen people treat as stupid.

percy is a dyslexic teen with ADHD who comes from a low-income family, raised by a single mother, and deals with an abusive step-father. i cannot stress enough how much of his character is shaped by that experience, but as hard as it is to single out any one part, i am going to focus on his ADHD and dyslexia. this kid has nightmares of being forced to take tests in a straightjacket as teachers ask him if he’s stupid and withhold him from recess with his peers. he is constantly labelled as “troubled” and blamed for things he didn’t do or aren’t his fault. he is told, over and over again, even from trusted adults, that he is “not normal” (othering him). he bounces between schools. he struggles to make friends. he deals with bullying. he has difficulty studying and reading, even when invested. teachers struggle to connect with him and tend to just give up on him. these are real disabled experiences, and rick does a good job at presenting them in the pjo books. sometimes, it feels like everything is a struggle. you are living inside a system that not only is restricting, but actively works against and punishes you.

in contrast, CHB is a great example of how when environments meet the needs of disabled people, it hugely changes how disabled we are in that environment. demigod brains are hard-wired for ancient greek, not english, and they’re born impulsive, with high energy levels that help them survive battle—but aren’t very good for a classroom setting. but by having them read books in ancient greek, regularly do lots of training/physical activities, and have genuine opportunities to express themselves...they function pretty damn well. percy discovers that while he struggles academically, he is brilliant in combat and capable of saving the world numerous times—he is a hero. do you know how important that message is for disabled children? disabled adults, too? that we can be heroes?

it is here, in camp half-blood, that percy finds a place he belongs, that shows him his worth—finally, somewhere is built to not only include him, but to nurture and genuinely prepare him for the world outside its boarders. however, i think people forget that just because percy functions in the world of CHB and the gods, that does not mean he doesn’t face ableism in the mortal world—and that there is an entire group of people who see ourselves reflected in his character.

i could talk on for hours about how much being disabled shapes percy’s identity and how he interacts with the world—like how percy’s humor revolves around coping with his environment and actually displays a very low self esteem after being looked down upon his entire life. this kid doesn’t even have to say anything and he screams i had a neurodivergent childhood. but about 5-6 years ago, when i was more regularly tuned into the fandom, every time i saw someone call percy jackson dumb or an idiot, even jokingly, i raised an eyebrow, and now that the series is getting fresh coverage from disney+, i have wanted to make this post. so much of this kid’s life and personality comes from being treated like he’s dumb or incapable, so it’s troubling to watch part of the fanbase reflect the harmful parts of this character’s upbringing. i truly hope it does not become common again. it’s also one thing coming from a neurodivergent/disabled person with similar experiences (and even then i personally find it a little uncomfortable), it’s another to be said by a neurotypical/able bodied person.

percy jackson’s experiences make for very important representation, and for people to characterize him as just a goofy, unintelligent guy is not only an insult to his character as a kid who is intelligent, but previously lacked the environment to show it, but also ableist. so in the dawn of the new tv series era, i ask that we cut that shit out. rick riordan did not create rep for neurodivergent and disabled kids for them to be called stupid by the fanbase. even jokingly.

so bad w kids until Harry. he was absolutely terrified of them, cos he never had interacted with them much before he had his own, my man Sucked at babysitting and frequently panicked whilst lily was pregnant because he was scared he'd be a bad parent

Not asking something but just saying, I have just scrolled casually your profile and your art is AMAZING and from the answers to other asks that I've read, you look like such a nice person 🥹. It's inspiring also because I see that you're consistent and post because of the love of posting stuff and not for the amount of likes which is admiring

I think I'm an alright person, all things considered! I'm not without my flaws and I sure as heck am not perfect.

I'm just an optimist, I have a poets heart so I am ridiculous, romantic and eccentric in my approach to life. It doesn't work for everyone but it works for me.

I don't actually understand numbers. I'm mildly dyslexic and severely dyscalculic. So numbers has no meaning to me, neither does time, value, distance or volume.

I think it's a blessing and a curse. Because I do understand that, in this day and age, numbers of likes equalize some sort of value.

A lot of people I have spoken to feel like failures if their work has little engagement, and I can't stand here and say I'm above that, 'nor do I look down on anyone who needs numbers.

I think everyone feels the tremors of recognition and wanting validation for your work.

We live in a time of social currency being reduced to engagement on various platforms of choice.

And for some, those numbers actually mean real money. So it isn't so simple anymore. People gotta eat. I'm just very privileged in that regard, I live in Sweden on minimum living, which is far better than most places. I don't have to worry about surviving too much.

So it is unfair if I were to stand here and say numbers are stupid.

But if we take out surviving from the equation:

Thing with numbers is, though, that you can get a lot of numbers in one place, little in another, and get hung up on why one space is less successful. And that's the crux of the problem, innit? You put your value in the response.

It is very unmotivating to live like that. But I also think it's difficult to dethatch yourself completely from numbers. It's not avoidable. It's right there. All the time. If there was a button where you could choose not to see it, that'd be one thing. But you DO see it, it leaves a print in you every time you look at anything online - there's a number. You even participate by liking and disliking things you see.

And even then, it is going to take active work on your own part to recognise every single time you feel disappointed or want to sigh at the lack of response to something you've made.

We are humans, we need validation. And unfortunately, the culture we live today is shaped unfavourable to the needs we have for positive affirmations.

HOWEVER! There is a way to work with the grain here.

For me, I see value in comments. Because then I actually talk with people and I get to discuss things and connect. It doesn't matter if there's a five likes or a thousand likes on something, because it might just be someone scrolling by anyway. Comments however! :D

The real deal are people who stop, and say hi, and leaves a word. Then I know how many people I have actually reached/touched/connected with! You know? It doesn't have to be a good comment, it can be visceral. But at least then I have some feedback to work with.

I , personally (me), struggle with what to do with numbers. I mostly go "Oh, neat!" if it's a hit one. And then I move on. Comments make me beam. I like people. :')

But you know..... It had worth to me?

Maybe that was good enough.

So now I just want to have fun. :)

Regardless if anyone is here or not. I still want my friends to like it, obviously! But in the end of the day, if I was the last person on earth - I want to do it because I love doing it.

Hiii, I read your post about the stiff dialogue in LO, and I wanted to add my own two cents!

I myself am a person with a nice case of dyslexia (it will most likely show in this message). While I can’t speak for everyone with dyslexia, I pesonally cannot and will not publish anything ”official”, without spell checking it to hell and back. This is mostly because I’m hyper aware of this being one of my ”shortcomings”.

I also wanted to say, that most of, if not all, people with dyslexia that I know are rather self-consious about it. I just find it a bit unbeliavable that all the misspellings/awkward text in LO are there simply because Rachel has dyslexia. To me personally, it seems to be more a product of laziness and/or indifference.

Of course there is the fact that I’m not working on a long project, and I can usually take my time with my work, so maybe I just have more recourses to be careful. I also want to make clear that I don’t mean to say that Rachel’s dyslexia doesn’t affect her workload at all, but I do think she should have the means to check these things, especially since she is quite successful in the field.

Thanks for pitching in on this! I myself do not have dyslexia, but I do understand the struggle of missing words or misspelling them as my brain tends to move too quick at times for my writing speed to keep up LMAO It happens a lot when I'm writing by hand as I can't handwrite as fast as I can type so words sometimes go missing while my brain speeds ahead 😂

I can get why someone might be a little more self-conscious about typos being pointed out if they're making their comic entirely on their own and for free, or if they're just self-conscious about making mistakes in general (it can be scary to put a piece of work out into the world!) but Rachel is literally the top creator on the platform so there's zero excuse for it to have gone this long without at least a copy editor. And frankly it's still weird that they hire a copy editor at all just for checking typos because that's something that can be done so easily (again, Rachel has 4-5 other assistants per episode, you're telling me NONE of them could do it for her? Oh that's right, because she has them all draw their panels in isolation of one another and then she slaps the dialogue in at the last minute -.- the copy editor she has right now seems like the 'last step' before she submits the comic).

That said, if you go back far enough, you can actually find Rachel's take on correcting her misspellings and it's... frankly way saltier than it ought to be? Like I get it, it might feel like an attack for someone to say "hey, I spotted this mistake!" especially if you're self-conscious about it or are living with a learning disorder that affects your every day life, but when you get over that self-consciousness of making mistakes, it's really not that big of a deal? Like, yeah, it can be really frustrating when people point those mistakes out because it makes you feel bad or reminds you that you're struggling with something like spelling that seems so natural and 'easy' to everyone else, but I find true genuine fans of your work don't point these things out to be mean, just to be helpful. Yes, some people are mean about it, but you can usually tell which ones are the mean ones and which ones are the nice ones.

I've made spelling and grammatical errors in both Time Gate and Rekindled that have been kindly pointed out, and you know what I do when people find them? I thank them for spotting what I clearly didn't and I go and fix it. Because it makes my work better for my audience and my own peace of mind.

Like... that whole thing is from her FAQ section that she made herself and she's still having a tone of voice that implies she's directing her answer at one specific person as if it was like an anon ask LMAO and really, I get the spirit of what she's saying, it can be pretentious/rude to point out people's spelling mistakes... in an informal or conversational setting. If you're making a comic or writing a book, though, it's basically a bare minimum expectation that you should be using spell check and making sure things are readable. You're making the work for other people to read after all. So her tone in this followed by the whole "I'm dyslexic you ass" bit just feels so unnecessarily hostile over something that was an innocent mistake and happens to literally everyone. Like, she really do be hurting her own feelings in her own FAQ that she made on her own time, this isn't the only question in there that reeks of 2000's edgy era "fuck you for asking" energy lmao

That said, to be fair, that is from her 2000's edgy era, so I'm hoping she's grown out of that at least slightly, but judging by how she's been managing her comic the past few years, it's clear she still isn't bothering to employ simple tactics to keep mistakes from slipping through the cracks and would rather lean on her dyslexia as an excuse rather than a reason. Dyslexia is a reason for typos, but where it becomes an excuse IMO is when she blames her dyslexia and then doesn't fix the mistakes that arise due to her dyslexia or do anything to make her life easier going forward.

Again, she's hired a copy editor, so if they're a permanent part of the team now, that will hopefully make things better. But why weren't they one of the first people hired when it's clear that Rachel could really use the help to ensure her comic comes out being the best version of itself it could be? It's like she's been literally shooting herself in the foot for the last 5 years.

It really feels lazy and, frankly, disrespectful. I know that might be a hot take or seem a little overblown to use that word here, but if you're going to be creating a comic for an audience - and expecting that audience to read your comic each week and in Rachel's case be expected to pay money for it - then you should be doing them the service of making it worth reading and sticking around for. If you can't even do so much as spell check your work - or go back and edit the errors when they arise - then that really goes to show how little you care about your own audience because you're not willing to put in the time and effort to even just fix a typo, let alone give them something worth coming back to and paying for each week. Sure, not everyone pays for the comics, but those viewership analytics are still valuable and it's very clear at this point that they're dropping rapidly week after week, and yet Rachel is doing barely anything to help turn things around.

Lore Olympus disrespects its audience in more ways beyond just the typos, of course, but the typos feel like the shopping cart litmus test - it costs next to nothing to resolve the issue, so if you still choose not to, it speaks to how little effort you're willing to put in to do something helpful for others that already only requires the bare minimum to do.

Of course, much of this is all speculative so take it with grains of salt, but judging by her responses to her own audience way back in the day, it really paints a picture of how Rachel views her audience. It makes it feel like she doesn't release her work into the world to genuinely entertain people or to find others who may connect and resonate with the work, she does it purely for herself and herself alone. That wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing in and of itself, it's pretty difficult to keep up a project if you aren't doing it for yourself to some degree (and you shouldn't create a comic just to earn an audience because that's just setting up unfair expectations for yourself lol), but in Rachel's case, it feels more like she's emulating the same edgelord energy of her "boss babe" Persephone - if you don't love every part of her and her work regardless of its genuine flaws, no matter how easy said flaws would be to fix, then you should just shut up and read her work and/or pay for it anyways because she should be allowed to do whatever she wants and if you don't like it, then you're an insensitive ass.

Ace is dyslexic. I cannot explain where this HC came from, but it's one I've had for years. It's quite severe and he struggles with his reading and writing as a result.

He overthinks a lot. And he gets really quiet and withdrawn when he's getting anxious, something the crew have recognised and do their best to distract him from. He's someone who'll get a sudden intrusive thought that nags at him for days until he forgets about it and moves onto the next thing. He does his best to hide it, but he just can't match his own natural energy when he's stressed.

Far too easily distracted. Him and Luffy share the attention span of a puppy.

He takes things very seriously! Even though he's a very upbeat, outgoing and chilled person, he cannot take even the most playful of insults. Especially from people who's opinion he holds in high regard. Even just a jokey "someone has got bedhead" will make him grumpy and moody. It's pretty easy to help him get over it though.

He's bisexual and honestly struggled with accepting it for a while. Whenever he would see another man and think "he's hot", he would immediately recoil at himself. He's not sure why he felt that way, he's never been bothered by other people's sexuality, he just... did.

He's a headmate and part of a Plural System! I have talked about this many times, and you can find more info on my pinned post on my writing Tumblr. I won't dive into it here because this post will be 10x as long because Plural Raph means everything to me, LMAO.

Eldest Daughter Syndrome all the way; this boy has trauma regarding taking care of his family and boundary issues because of it. This also applies to him loathing and loving his family in a complex way.

He's Autistic, and one of my favorite things about Raphael's traits is that he enjoys the feeling of intense sensory input. Especially when he was younger, he used to get hurt a lot because Raph used to throw himself around when he was understimulated. It's something Donnie teases him about and doesn't understand at all. But they bond over their shared neurodiversity, especially about emotional shutdowns.

He's Dyslexic! He struggles a fuck ton when it comes to reading and writing, so much so that it's one of the main things that caused him to melt down. The frustration over being unable to do things his brothers could became too much, really fast when he was younger. Things are better now, but he often struggles, as outwardly shown with his sloppy handwriting, sometimes taking a while to write out texts and mishearing what people are saying to him.

He's also Dyscalculic, so he struggles with math just as much. Unlike his Dyslexia, however, Donnie was more than happy to help him out and show him multiple ways of doing it. After Donnie went through a whole entire perspective change over not being able to grasp why Raph was so "dumb" until he finally realized Raph understood numbers differently, like how Donnie did but in the opposite. Raph hates numbers, but it doesn't get as much of an emotional reaction out of him as reading/writing does. 

He is a puzzle freak! I cannot stress enough how much he loves puzzles, especially Tangrams and Sodoku! He has his own stash of puzzles in his room or somewhere in storage. It's one of the things he allows himself to buy for himself, a treat of sorts. When he's stressed and needs to be alone, he pulls out a few puzzles and completes them until he feels better. Donnie and Raph have their days that they'll do Sodokus together, and at times Mikey joins Raph in jigsaw puzzles and/or challenges, especially the big ones that take days to complete. It's one of the ways the three bond.

Raph has special interests in Dinosaurs, Puzzles, Anatomy (like how muscles work), Sports, and Stuffed Animals. He's able to info dump on the histories and information about each one but doesn't, mostly because he's so busy making sure his family is taken care of that he's combated the urge to info dump unless asked to.

Leonardo:

In a possible AU(?) or, in some fics, I write Leo as Plural, which you can also find in the pinned post I linked. However, it's not a big headcanon of mine as it is with Raphael's Plurality, but it's still something I can talk about for ages. 

He's an insomniac and has been since he was a baby. He struggles to sleep, and when he does, it's not for very long. His family accommodates his fucked up sleep schedule and never puts him down for not being able to sleep or spend time with them because he needs to sleep in/is too exhausted to participate. He feels guilty for not being able to join them in the morning at times, has anxiety about how short days seem, and sometimes feels like he isn't doing enough to spend time with his family because he can't control his sleep. 

He has an Anxiety Disorder. Many things affect him differently than his brothers because of this, like dealing with stress. He also places much of his self-worth in his appearance, his family's perception of him, and the need for constant success. So, if any of those things are affected, he spirals into panic attacks that leave him emotionally drained and mentally fucked for days. Until he eventually bounces back into three of his unhealthy coping mechanisms.

He has Internalized Homophobia, deadass.

He's a music-orientated boy like Mikey is. The only difference is that when he's upset, he'll drown everything out with loud music and pretend to be a rock star/his favorite artist(s) for escapism. He has the most music on his playlist out of all his brothers but still has nearly every song memorized by heart. He hums songs a lot, whether to calm himself down or when he's really happy. A humming, muttering lyrics Leo is usually a good sign unless he's rubbing at his wrist. 

This leads me to my next headcanon: Leo's also very unhealthy coping mechanism is digging and rubbing at his wrist when he has a panic/anxiety attack. It started when he was younger and only worsened until his family helped Leo find different ways to cope.

He loves tea more than Splinter. Anything tea flavored? He'll love it. Get him any kind of tea? He'll down that shit no matter what. Splinter doesn't understand how Leo can enjoy black tea, but he fucking does, so if he's super tired in the morning, he'll drink some caffeinated black tea and watches as his family cringes and teases him for his terrible taste buds. April usually buys Leo some new tea for him to try for the day that they all finally witness Leo actually not like a certain kind. It hasn't happened yet.

Donatello:

Autistic and mostly sensory, avoidant to everything except his eyes, leaving him loving when things are really vibrant, hence why his purple lights in his lab are so strong sometimes. When he was younger, he went through a lot of trial and error trying to find his comfort food/foods he's comfortable with. Sensory issues are his nemesis. This is why he never experiments with his pallet beyond his own food abominations (as Mikey calls them). Hates scented detergents/candles/strong-smelling foods and will avoid really high sensory challenges their family plays that Raphael dives right into.

He has trouble sleeping, not in the same way as Leo, but mostly because he fixates on a project and doesn't want to go to sleep until he's finished. It's led to quite a few arguments from Raph, but only when it leaves Donnie up for 24 hours, affecting his health. Donnie or Leo will mostly silently join each other, so they're not alone. At the same time, everyone else is asleep, and depending on if the other is having some issues, they'll do their Wrist Grab, which is their specific affection grab that developed in their childhood. 

He makes Stress Binders, binders full of information he's printed out, laminated, and specifically made in a certain order. He has some on lab SDS (Saftey Data Sheets), his special interests, data from each of his creations, his family, and random interesting facts. They're on a shelf in his lab that's properly labeled and something his family doesn't even dare to touch because it's literally Donnie's emotional crutches.

He hates fish. Like. With a full-on passion, he hates fish. He hates the touch, looks, and just- everything about them. His family will tease him for it, but they never go too far because he will fucking lose it if he has to touch a goddamn fish. 

He was non-verbal when he was younger and communicated through building Legos. Everyone keeps the Lego figures he's made just for them, whether they were an important thing or as a gift. Donnie still loves Legos but doesn't build with them as much as when he was a kid, but from time to time, he'll leave his family Lil Legos for them to find. 

Because Donnie was non-verbal and can become semi-non-verbal when he is overhwlemed, everyone learned ASL to talk to each other when one of them was silent or needed help. They use it outside when Donnie is non-verbal, but it isn't often enough that anyone would know they knew ASL if they weren't around when Donnie went mute.

He's a father to all his creations and treats them all like they're his children, even if he reflects Splinter's parenting that had hurt him onto them, intentional or not. I know this could be considered canon, considering S.H.E.L.L.D.O.N. and the Sentient Bed. But seriously, he has so many AI children that no one can even joke about it because it's literally too fucking real, LMAO.

Michelangelo: 

He has Intrusive Thoughts that have a wide fucking range that affect him constantly. I sometimes write him with OCD, but he generally suffers from Intrusive Thoughts. Out of all his brothers, he has the best handle on his issues and healthy coping mechanisms, but he still struggles. He grows silent and distant when his mind is fucking with him, and only on desperate occasions does he confines himself to his bedroom. He never outright locks himself away like Splinter. He would rather suffer than do so, but he does take time away from everyone else to vent or deal with the thoughts until he's all better. 

He was taught how to cook by Raphael before he exceeded Raphael's knowledge and self-taught himself in everything else. He loves cooking, and it's a way for him to get creative and feel like he's contributing to his family and properly accommodating what they need to be. However, he will playfully strangle whoever steals a taste of the food he's making before he's done, and everyone has gotten hit with a spatula by him a few times because of it.

He enjoys making jewelry, mostly bracelets, necklaces, and earrings, for his family's mask tails and ears for those who have them. It started when he used to take a string and tie little rings on his fingers as a kid, and eventually, when he got older, he could make some of his own and self-teach himself how to! 

He is 100% an ADHDer and is a mix of hyperactive and unattentive. He usually stims by doing tricks and hanging himself upside down, especially when understimulated. He gets upset really easily when he isn't able to focus on something, though, and when Mikey was younger, Mikey used to bite down on the inside of his mouth as a way to try and focus, but it never worked, and he ended up leaving scars in his mouth and making himself bleed. It's all fixed now, and he instead finds different ways to express his frustration.

He loves history. He watches videos, documentaries, and easy-to-read books on different cultures and all their information. Reading about history, culture, and such, he can overcome art block and draw things inspired by what he learns. Because he's so passionate about it, April shares everything she gets taught in her history classes and lets Mikey keep whatever she doesn't need anymore from that class.

He writes not very often, but he dabbles in creative writing from time to time, especially if it's poetry or describing his feelings. 

Mikey has issues with not being seen as mature and independent, so it causes a lot of fights in their family when anyone doesn't allow him to do something he thinks he's ready for. He hates being babied, and because of this, he and Raph can butt heads a lot, especially when Raph is being overprotective and hovering. At times Mikey understands, but in others, it's just a one-way trip to him not talking to you until he's calmed down.
