Jason A Day: Batman #368
We open where we left off, with Bruce and Jason trying to figure out a name for Jay.
Baby Jason idolizes Dick, and has some explaining to do.
Excuse me while I wail.
I always tear up at “So long, Robin. Be great.” The end of an era :’)
Jason and Bruce end up discussing the nature of anonymity and not recieving thanks for their work, and it leads to:
Jason Death Foreshadowing Count: 5
This is also where we start to see Bruce’s habit of comparing his Robins. I want to note: I don’t think Bruce is bad for this, I think it’s natural, and I think he genuinely means it in an encouraging way most of the time. But for both pre and post crisis Jason, the knowledge of living up to a legacy (and, for post-resurrection Jason, the victim blaming causing the implication that he had failed that legacy) is an important fact for the character.
So Batman and Robin go out on patrol!
Nothing like violence to make your new dad proud <3
Okay now surely you guys have more pressing things to attend to.
:’)
Okay so our rogue of the week is Crazy Quilt, who Dick had helped imprison during his time as Robin. Quilt is now out for revenge against Robin, and obviously is unaware this isn’t the same Robin who he wants vengeance against. Batman, aware that Quilt might be out for revenge, orders Jason to stay back from the fight - but it turns out that was the oppurtunity to spring himself on an all alone Robin that Quilt was looking for and....

Keep seeing that post where OP starts like 'Thinking about...grieving the undead' and then adds on about like. Real life situations where people have not died but have left your life and you would have reason to grieve them.
All respect, that's an important concept, but that is not what I am thinking about when I read 'grieving the undead'.

Learning that Jason was Red Robin first (during Countdown to Final Crisis) and that Tim actually stole that name and costume has made my entire week. Honest to god Tim Drake is the funniest character of all time. Imagine getting your ass beat for stealing from a guy and then doing it again anyway, top-tier character choice. I think he should take Red Hood next.

frank: let me get this straight. thalia and jason’s domain is the sky, percy’s domain is water, and hazel and nico’s domain is basically the underground?
annabeth: yes
frank: but… can’t percy also create storms? that have clouds and lightning and thunder?
annabeth: yes
frank: and… and can’t percy also create earthquakes and make volcanoes erupt?
annabeth: yes
frank: so… in a way, doesn’t that mean everywhere is percy’s domain?
annabeth: yes.
annabeth: but don’t tell him. he hasn’t had that realization yet

Reporter: Tell us Bruce, why have you recently decided to work out more? Do you just want to compete with our Clark? Or is it-
Bruce: My kids.
Reporter: I’m sorry what?
Bruce: I work out so I can still lift them.
Reporter: …
Bruce: if you have nothing else to ask I’m going to leave now. Let’s go Jaylad.
Bruce just picks up Jason and leaves.
Jason looks like a large dog that clearly isn’t used to being in the air.
Like this.

I think it’s hilarious that Ra’s is the only mfer to give a shit at all about the circumstances of Jason’s resurrection. No one else even talks about it. Jason doesn’t care, Talia doesn’t care, Bruce only cares insofar as he needs to confirm that Jason is who he says he is.
I imagine him going around shaking people by their shoulders demanding are you not at all curious or at least worried how this came to be?!!?? Just POOF? No necromancer, no science experiment. Nothing, just- Boy is dead, boy is alive. That’s fine to you?

Let’s amp up the “Jason says ow and the batfam thinks he must be gravely injured” headcanon.
Jason calls Bruce or Dick for fun and says nothing but “goodbye” before hanging up (maybe it’s a dare by Roy who TOTALLY suspects the reaction Jay is gonna get).
Ten minutes late the entire Justice League is scouring Gotham, on the hunt for Jason.

Jason A Day: The New Teen Titans #3 & #4
Okay Jason isn't really in these ones but he does appear. And I'm just combining them because #4 is like two panels.
The Titans are sort of hallucinating their worst nightmares/the versions of themselves that never grew past their worst fears and moments.
And so of course, Dick's vision is a dead Bruce. But more interestingly for us, the other aspect of his vision is a Jason who wasn't "good enough" to save Bruce.
I don't think this vision is really about Jason or Dick's view of Jason as much as Dick's feeling of responsibility towards Bruce and Robin as almost a duty.
In #4, Dick's vision continues, with even more self-hatred.
(Somewhere out there Robin has the distinct feeling someone is talking shit - )
Yeah this one is all about Dick and his fears, but Jason is technically here so by God I was gonna post about it.

Something about how Jason Todd’s core character trait is how he lost faith. He lost faith in Shiela, in Bruce, in the entire concept that someone else can care about him and actually have his best interests at heart.
Something about how Catholic priest Flashpoint Jason Todd is someone who has such intense faith, who trust so heavily in someone basically unprovable. Something about how without Bruce, without being Robin, it was his faith that was his core character trait.
Something about how being Robin and the life he was led into changed him in such a tragic and deep seeded way. I don’t know
