#misoginy in anime

Zom 100 is what I consider a very good example of withing the context of anime a diference between fan service and active sexism. Because yes fan service can and most often is sexist, but even when it is its a much more internalized kind, the sort of “women are never ever not fuckable, reguardless of the situation” and then there is “I hate women, they are whores and bitches. I want them to suffer and get off on their pain”
Because this series does both.
Tumblr media
These two are fan service. They are at their core, characters and you can instantly tell they have something going on unrelated to sex and their outfits and general horny presentation is just there because the author likes thats and wants the sex appeal to to just be there because “theyre women why not make them sexy” they wear generally normal but appealing outfits that real people wear and are shown to do so willingly and for their own comfort. This is fine. Can be frustrating sometimes but I like boobs as much as anyone, they are very cute and pretty and I can live with it if not directly enjoy it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is misoginy. They arent dressed for the viewer to find them cute or appealing, but they are sexualized to a ridiculus digree both by the show and the male characters and all die horrifically, most in explicitly sexual ways, two being deeply slut shamed and sexualize in a way thats only done to actively degrade them, another one is made into a stereotype and is killed in a way that invokes a non consentual sexual act and one was made to be nurtering to the man who saw her as a literal point on a checklist and made to die alone for the sake of his minor character development. Especially the ofice lady her horrible fait is treated with intense joy, even by the man who suposedly adored her. This shows just such and intense hatred, and resentment towards women, the fact that they arent nearly as visually sexualized but are the ones actually having sex WITH THE PROTAGONISTS EVEN and then disgustingly shamed for it.
This is where you can notice when a creator is just horny and when they are an active misoginist. I have only seen three episodes of this show and dont really know much about the blonde girl but I will assume she is treated the same way as the other one with maybe at worst some “dosent realize shes being sexy” type deal just based of vibes. But I dont need to see more to know that this show hates women deeply. I was super hyped about this show and have put up with A LOT in the past. But this is so directly just direct hatred for women that I cant stand it. Because usually I can imagine that this is just how they feel about their art and dont usually think that way but you can so clearly see here what his fantasy and reality are that I am confident in my analisis of his views. It sucks. Especially with how it was seemingly progresive with its anti capitalist themes, its such a shame.

So word got out that Nickelodeon has decided to cease production on a new animated show called Phoebe and Her Unicorn because, according to an executive, "female lead cartoons don't sell well." To show just how backwards and idiotic this statement is, here is a compilation of beloved animated series which were both created by women, and have a female protagonist.

Random rant: I'm an agnostic who was raised Christian, as I've mentioned many times, but it doesn't change the fact that it pisses me off when people write to Muslim women, I love it when they say Islam is misogynistic and then write misogynistic comments about it being " "Take care of your husband", or texts about cleaning the house, or classic texts about September 11… Yes, I often see such comments in shorts and it's a problem that is not talked about (You don't have to mention the texts about taking off the hijab… Because you can see that women can wear whatever they want, unless… that he doesn't agree with your fucked up social norms…)
The very fact that misogyny is accepted as long as it is directed towards Muslims is fucking fucked up (For me it's on par with religious fanatics, they piss me off just as much), and the worst thing is that many people are silent about it (Especially radical feminists…Although they prefer to attack trans and intersex people…)
Yes, it was a rant, I just saw so many comments towards Muslim women on YouTube shorts that I'm fed up (And these are not isolated cases, they are frequent and it sucks, I also see queerphobia, but it is at least publicized, misogyny while towards Muslims it is passed over in silence and it's fucked up)
If the argument for being misogynistic towards women is their head covering, then fuck you, you prove that it's not Islam that's the problem, it's you
If we fight for women's rights, let's fight Islamophobia mixed with misogyny (as well as trans misogyny), because what I see in the comments on the short is too common and we should stop being silent about it, if you are silent, you are not a feminist
Now that I have your attention:

Been seeing a lot of discussion on rgu and race(and racism) recently which I think it's great. I plan to do a coherent little analisys on it some (not near) time, but for now, there's this thing that has been on my brain since my first watch;
About Akio, that has all control overs Ohtori being a brown man, and Anthy being the sufferer of all oppression not only for being a girl, but also clearly different in the academy for being brown (suffering with what can really be interpreted as racism, because of the constant sexualization, objectification and villifying of her). It's a contrast between the two siblings that has to do i'd say with the inherent links of types of prejudice: misoginy, racism, transphobia, homophobia, ableism go ideologically and systemically hand in hand.
Anthy is a brown girl that endured the thousand swords of humanitys hatred, prejudice. She carries with herself the open wound of all the girls under patriarchy, but not just this, she is vulnerable. A trafficked brown queer teenage girl victim of systemical abuse. And although the anime 'focus' its themes on gender, still, we can clearly pick up on multiple adding interpretations of Anthy as the representation of girls of marginalized groups.
Akio is not vulnerable, as he is an adult, an authority figure, the patriarch (and almost its god, when he paints himself as Dios) of ohtoris system, the academys Headmaster. But he is a brown man that, as we know, is also a marginalized group. And Akio, despite his positions as both teorically Dios and symbolically Lucifer, is also inserted in his own system. He is not the owner of Ohtori, and pardon me if I mix up the titles and positions names i'm vry tired, he's being a substitute to the actual guy, Kanaes father. So, even in this position so high of authority, we can see that even he has to play his own game and fall beneath someone with more power than him. Because that's how hierarchies and patriarchy works. And it makes me remember of when we see his and Anthys backstories:
Tumblr media
So now, the part I've been thinking about since ever:
The place where Anthy and Akio stay is a wooden cabin with hay, which is similar to the ones that were built in america in the beggining of colonization. I apologize deeply, but I forgot about the name of the structure and the name of the article that discussed Anthy being brown, but I'll link it if I find it again. Anthy wears this very humble red cloth, that is indubtly more simple than Dios and the peoples clothing. It shows the beggining of ostracization. Dios clothing is white and similar to a tuxedo like the crowd is wearing, and anthys is red just like the rosebride dress.
For me, that seems to show us how the man and woman gender hierarchy is a colonizer idea.
Anthy dresses in a piece of cloth of the same colour of her bridal dress, because her as a brown girl is not a princess, not worth of value, a witch, and only valuable as an man serving object. And Akio, being now categorized as a man, even though he'a a child, dresses in a white tuxedo similar to the ones worn by grooms. He's higher in the hierarchy, but still used. And when Anthy helps her brother herself, despite being the lowest in the worlds hierarchy, the crowd attacks her and it consolidates the system that Akio knows dives fully into, as the master, but also not unharmed; at least from when he was a kid.

speaking of misoginy.
its interesting how there are levels to this, level one could be considered as the baseline, background radiation levels of undeconstructed misoginy that one absorbs from a general patriarchal culture, where one might have deeply buried biases and what not. this is the everyday stuff that, while is nice to be mindful of, is not something that bears too much concern and everyone will inevitably have to some degree or another.
level two is like, being a thoughtless jerk, this is the bad boyfriend tier misoginy, when you kind of expect the women in your life to do all emotional and domestic labor for you, when you assume that the role of a woman is to be a mother or a wife, when you think the baseline expectation for any woman is to look attractive for men, when you think women dont have a right to abortion, etc. this is the misoginy that is easy to see and point out and for most reasonable people to see its bad.
and for the longest time i thought this was kind of it. i understood that the etimology of misoginy was "hatred or dislike of women" but i didnt take that literally, much in the same way i dont think a homophobe is literally terrified of a gay person.
but then i came to be exposed to the deepest depths of the red pill in its most current iteration and i was genuenly surprised that holy shit, these people genuenly hate women.
like the previous two cathegories i mentioned at least tend to appreciate women in a patronizing or objectifying way, this third group can barely tolerate their prescence. they regard them with the same hatred one has for dangerous animals or disgusting insects, which frankly kind of shocked me. they value having had sex with lots of women but seem to regard the necessity of interacting with women in order to achieve it as this onerous obstacle. to give you an idea of what im talking about, ive heard them say that is far better to live with lots of "high value men" as roomates because you can encourage and uplift each other as bros do than having to live with a woman in your house who would act as a catty vapid nagging parasite.
there is something so incredibly depressing about that. but i guess it is a little funny that we managed to recreate ancient greece so faithfully

Man i went to check out the twitter response and man people really get mad about shipping, i mean im no narusasu champion of the ship, but i mean the manga/anime did most of the work for that ship to happen with its own misoginy it aint your fault you're just having fun with it.
I can’t even see them now thanks to my lovely beautiful wife, the block button.
Also I figured out you can turn off comments on individual posts so now I only have to deal with the quote tweets haha.
Also I feel like even if the series gave its female characters all richer personalities and some goddamn wins, it wouldn’t make Naruto and Sasuke have less chemistry lmao

Still trying to digest how absurd is the extreme dissonance between the writing team's intention and what we actually saw on screen. Its like we have two entirely separated stories:
1-the show the writers believe they are writing being a magical epopey about feminism and self-assurance
2-the show we are actually seeing, being a show about abuse apologia and circunvented misoginy.
the cheer incapacity to connect with your viewer and write something that will get through them and not give them the wrong messages is simply baffling.
I mean how can you miss the mark so much? How can you fail so hard as a writer to the point of giving your reader so much mixed signals in the narrative and the build-up it feels an entire different story to what you are trying to convey?
And NO, its not the viewer/reader's fault they are "interpreting this wrong". Its your fucking JOB as a writer to convey your messages correctly, you cant just write things out of your ass and then say "you just dont get it bro". Especiallly if we are taking about a kid's show.
And they know how bad it is. To the point they have to constantly release post-content stuff and tweet to try to justify their wrong signals to fans just show how aware they are at their terrible job.
However, what makes me truly MAD is how they dont care and even still feel justified with their shitty job, because they are still meeting their view quotas, pushing their master's agenda and selling toys, as if it being comercially attractive to impressionable children equals to good writing. Imagine being this much of a corporate rat. Who cares if kids are getting the wrong message? Who cares if we are writing an unsatifying story? Its still colorful and is still selling out so why should we care? Why should we make an effort to see if kids are getting the right or wrong impression? As long as they are watching it and making their parents open their pockets, no problemo, right?
This is an issue in western animation in general, but Miraculous just decided to throw out the straw and jump head first into the pound.

This is set in Season 4! <3 Hope you enjoy your reading!!
You looked at yourself in the framed mirror that hung on one of the corners of the crowded room. The image that greeted you did not at all reflect what you felt inside. Make up helped hide your sunken eyes, and gave you and the rest of the world the comfortable illusion that everything was just fine; that you didn’t loathe every single second of your day with a burning passion.
Sleep was hard, but then again, it was that way for most women, at least in your line of work.
Your lips looked nearly naked, swollen and numb, but it was ok. The next one wouldn’t notice, you doubted he would even care at all if he did. You covered your skin in a disguise anyway; cheeks flushed, alive, and lips fresh, eyes hungry for more, fingers willing to please.
To please a man, you thought, a Shelby man.
That should mean something, should make you feel nervous, scared even, but you were surprisingly calm as you brushed your hair into place.
No matter the name before it, a man was a man, and that you knew how to handle. Even though dangerous, like any wild animal, once you learnt their language, your chances at survival increased greatly, to the point where sometimes you may even feel safe around them.
That, you had learnt the hard way, was as much an illusion as the smile that automatically grew on your face when you heard the doorbell ring outside, signaling for you to get ready. As was the curve on your back, or the confident tilt of your head as a man made his way into the room, deciding your fate for the rest of the day.
“Mr. Shelby, is it?” the young man nodded his head, but his face was tense and hard, he closed the door behind him almost hesitantly. He waited a few seconds before he met your eyes, then hastily proceeded to avoid your gaze. A flash of wild blue was what you had expected when you were told that a Shelby would be visiting today, or even a pair of dark stones, menacing, hungry for what laid beneath your clothes.
That wasn't what you found in his face for that brief moment though, his eyes were not as dark as caves nor as cold as ice; they felt bashful, innocent, like a fawn wandering a little too far away from home for comfort.
That, you thought at that moment, must've been one of the many illusions that surrounded you these days. After all, this was one of the Shelby brothers standing in front of you, and the blood on their hands was something nearly impossible to overlook, as was their infamous reputation.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you,” he stood at the entrance for a bit too long, which meant that you had to stand up to go and greet him first. You groaned internally as your body ached in protest, your legs sore, your skin burning in tender places, but you didn't let him see that. You offered a hand, and he took it; sweaty, and warm, but that didn't matter. You gently pulled him towards the center of the room, to the foot of the bed, where you sat and waited for him to follow suit.
He was a good looking young man indeed, but this was not enough to fool you. You had witnessed beautiful forest fires; but that never stopped them from burning everything down to ashes.
Albeit you would've thought a Shelby man to be quite rowdier than this one was.
Once again, it was you who broke the silence.
“I know that the plan was to meet with Lizzie’s friend and not me, so I apologize if I can't reach your expectations. I promise I will try, Mr. Shelby,” as you spoke, you performed what you had memorized expertly, exposing your bare breasts to the dusty air of the room. He didn't need to talk, you knew what was expected of you, and you were sure he’d make you know otherwise, so you paid no mind to his silence.
“It’s fine.” his eyes darted towards your hands as you placed them on his leg, and he shifted in place.
“There's no need to be nervous, sir, I will do anything you ask for,” squeezing one of your hands, you took his with the other and gently led it towards your chest, trying to show him the way, but he wriggled it out of your grasp before any contact was made, scooting away from you uncomfortably. It didn’t leave your hands any colder than before, but his body language did cause a sting at the pit of your stomach, even if for a second. You pursed your lips then, slightly shocked as you tried to decipher his behavior.
“You really don’t need to,” his face was pointing opposite from you, and you wondered what could be of more interest to him than what you had to offer.
“I’m confused.” trying to gain his attention back, you spoke, searching for his gaze with a lean of your body. He barely glanced at your face.
“This is not right, I don’t want to… to force anything, ‘right?” you tried to make sense of his words, looking elsewhere. You were starting to feel frustrated. Was this some sort of game? Was he making fun of you? He didn’t look like he was having fun, precisely. Why was he here, then?
“Do you find me unpleasant, Mr. Shelby?” there wasn’t as much honey tangled in your voice anymore as there was a moment ago, words coming out sharper than you intended them to. Time wasn’t something you enjoyed spending, let alone waste it. If he wished to change whores, he should be a man about it and just say it.
“Please don't call me that.”
“Isn't that your name, though, sir?” your patience was wearing thin, but your voice remained calm.
“My name is Finn, and, I don't,” he stopped himself, seeming to think his words over before he spoke. “it's not that I find you unpleasant, believe me, I’m just… I don’t want this, not this way…”
“Right…” you busied your hands with buttoning up your blouse, concentrating on each button individually. This gave you time to think as the man paced around the room aimlessly. “but you paid for this service.” you carefully pointed out.
“Yes, I know. Look, my family just expects me to, and I thought that I could do it, but… I don't like the way I’m feeling right now.” you couldn’t stop the small frown that made its way to your face. Of course, he was one of those.
“Ashamed?” you wanted to get this over with.
“No, not ashamed!” he looked at you then, and he must’ve seen something lingering in your gaze, because his eyes opened slightly more than usual, and he rushed to say his next words. “This has nothing to do with you and everything to do with my family, I promise.”
You sighed.
‘’Why does your family expect you to?’’
‘’I thought it might be a good idea to tell them that I was, well… a virgin.’’ his last words were soft, like a shameful confession, but you heard them clearly.
‘’Oh,’’ your gaze dropped to the floor for a second. A virgin. That concept was so far away from you, it felt strange to hear it again, to reflect on its meaning like you did once, when you were a child. You do remember the fear, though. Knowing that someday it would be taken from you, painfully, ripped away like a wobbly tooth by someone that did not understand, nor care.
Because they couldn’t understand, not one bit.
Yet, how could you explain the fear that you could see dancing in his soft green eyes? Suddenly you felt as if you were looking at yourself, a version of yourself lost long ago, that knew no delusions; not yet. The one you would do anything to keep safely wrapped around your arms.
How could a Shelby, out of all people, feel so fragile under your eyes?
And how was he alive?
‘’Apparently they think it's time for me to become a man, so,’’
‘’You’re not a man?’’ tilting your head to the side, you questioned.
‘’Not until I’ve fucked, I’m not.’’ you exhaled a laugh at that, getting up from your seat by the bed, and walking up to the small cabinet under the mirror. Opening it, you pulled a small bottle of rum out, pouring it out into one of the glasses that sat on top. Finn Shelby observed your movements from his side of the room, fidgeting with the cuffs of his sleeves.
‘’I mean no offense by this, but that's a weird logic to have.’’ you walked up to him then, offering the glass up. He looked at it for a moment before taking it, with a nod of his head. You went back to fill your own.
‘’You think?’’
‘’I know.’’ you turned to look at him again, leaning back against the cabinet and stopping to sip on your drink. ‘’I’ve met all kinds of people, and I can assure you, no matter how many times they’d visit our whorehouse, or whomever they chose to fuck each night, that didn't make them any more of a man than they were before. Not in my eyes.’’ you shrugged.
‘’So fuck, or don’t. It’s the shit that you do outside of that what will tell everyone else what sort of man you’ve chosen to be.’’
He was silent again, but pain was visibly haunting his face. This was an intense chat to have with a stranger, but somehow this room, the very same room that held countless wars each day, some of them bloody and terrifying, had become no man’s land for the both of you, the sounds of guns and screams too far away for you to hear, and a strange sense of calm filling your chests.
‘’You don’t need to worry about me, I won’t tell anyone,’’ setting your glass down, you busied yourself looking for something else, giving him time to think, since he seemed to need it.
Once you found what you were looking for, you approached him again.
‘’Here,’’ you reached out your hand again, this time holding up to him a considerable amount of money; the same amount that you had received for the job. He seemed to snap out of his small trance then, knitting both eyebrows together softly.
‘’No, no, please keep it!’’ he held your hands and pushed them back gently.
‘’You payed for the fucking, and we’re not fucking, are we?’’ he didn’t let go of your hands, stubbornly holding them close to you.
‘’Let me pay you for your time, otherwise I’ll feel awful,’’
‘’Alright, if that's what you want, I thank you.’’
‘’I should be the one to thank you, really, uh… uhm… ‘’ he stared blankly at you for a second. You noticed his ears turning red, beneath all the freckles that adorned his skin.
‘’Something the matter?’’ you quirked one eyebrow up.
‘’I just realized I never asked for your name, that’s all.’’ he shook his head with an embarrassed smile, and you turned to look at him for a moment while you put the money back in its former place.
‘’My name? And why would that matter?’’ with a light groan, you fully rose back to your feet. God, you felt like sleeping. You hadn’t felt like sleeping in weeks.
‘’How can we become friends if I don't even know what to call you, miss?’’ his smile took you off guard, you had to admit. Lips folding into themselves with a soft curve, bared teeth never seemed so harmless in your eyes.
‘’I suppose you're right,’’ after you told him your name, you reached for your glass and took a final swig, the both of you falling into a silence that could not be described accurately, for it didn’t make you uncomfortable, but at the same time, it gave you a sense of vertigo that felt deeply unusual.
Finn, on the other hand, looked way calmer than before, and you didn’t know him enough to tell, but you could swear there was a hint of the smile before lingering at the corners of his mouth.
‘’Well, I… will be taking my leave now, I’m supposed to be making money. But I’m glad to have met a man as respectable as you’ve proven to be, Finn,’’ you figured some theatricals wouldn't hurt, so you courtly bowed at him with a smile, turning to go for the door.
You stopped when you heard him call your name, however.
‘’Will you stay? I’ve some money left to spend, and I did enjoy our chat, you’re honest.'' when you turned to look at him, he was sitting on the bed again, a light smile while he looked at you. You couldn't help but return it.
''You’re paying me to speak to me? Shouldn't that be the other way around? You’re the Shelby, I’m just…''
“You’re you, and I’m me. At least in this room,'' he didn't stop looking in your eyes whilst you approached his sitting figure, waiting for some sort of confirmation, some mutual agreement. You pursed your lips, looking around for a moment.
''No man in sight?'' he shook his head at your words, and you stepped closer to the bed, to the free spot beside him.
''No woman either,'' he dared say as you sat down finally, letting your back hit the soft bed, and stretching your arms comfortably. You agreed, silently.
''Man, woman, what in the fuck does that mean, anyway?'' you whispered back, and he followed you down onto the softness.

(1/2) Bro, like. I agre with ur post abt gods and terfs BUT. U said "the gods would oppose what is contrary to progress" but what abt slavery and misoginy in ancient greece? violence, r*pe, wars, etc. Are u going to tell me theoi didn't hear the prayers of ancient greeks? bigots will always exist and they'll always pray and gods don't care abt human terms/war of morals. They're neutral as long as u pray and offer, they don't choose favorites.
Χαίρε, anon!
I disagree with you insofar as this assumes that bigotry in humans is innate. It isn't, and suggesting otherwise would be to argue that oppression and inequity can be excused because "it's just something we do." As humans, we are animals. And animals are fallible.
I also think it's presumptuous to say that the gods are wholly neutral because historically that isn't true. Zeus, for instance, is not neutral about hospitality or the treatment of suppliants or cold-blooded murder, etc.
(If you'd like me to include the second part of your ask, please let me know!)

I find it so funny when people try to dissuade people from shipping same sex pairing by using the "We need more representation of close and intimate male friendship. People need to stop making everything gay" excuse. But the reality is that the friendship who is truly under representated is male/female friendship. Ask anybody if 2 guys can be friend? Of course! Ask if 2 girls can be friend? Obviously! Now ask if a a guy and a girl can be friend? "Well, hum ... not really ... the guy probably want to fuck the girl if she is pretty ... the friendship isnt real." Clearly society lacks representation of healthy male/female friendship. Tv shows, anime etc ... give the MC a whole harem of girls (girls who are supposed to be just friends and he thinks of as only friends at the beginning) pining for him or love the trope of the good guy friend who is waiting for the girl to stop dating assholes and finally notice him. Which also lead to the gay best friend trope bc its the only guy who can be the girl's friend.
Representing male/female friendship not only help against heteronormativity but also misoginy. The idea that women arent fun to be around and are boring perpetuate the thought that women are just good at being fucked, at being wifed etc, and not fun enough to just have a good time doing friends stuff ... So men end up thinking they can only return romantic or lustful feelings toward women.
All that to say that those people clearly do not care about friendships representation. They are just annoyed that people prefer same sex pairings to the holy straight pairings. And "feminist" women who cheer because their queens finally got to get the dicks they wanted are advocating for the wrong thing. Celebrating their faves girls being used as sequel factories or for disney happy ever after the heteronormative and misogynist society craves so much, isnt the big flex they think it is.
Well said anon.
Yes, I agree there is a dearth of healthy and realistic m/f friendships in media and they are surely underrepresented. Lately, more creators are portraying m/f friendships in their films/series etc. But yeah, it's such a stereotypical thing to reduce m/f relationships to romantic or lewd isn't it?
I liked how the character of Amy in Gone Girl talked about the Cool Girl trope. How men wanna see women they wanna hang out with in a certain way and outwardly, it seems this is a fun girl, with a free, liberal and casual devil may care attitude yet still have their personalities revolving around the desires and fetishes of men. I also liked how again, the character of Amy in a film called Chasing Amy portrayed a similar issue, even though the film has its own problems. How men see lesbian women and even though their sexual interests don't intersect, men nevertheless feel righteous about constructing sexual fetishes around it, objectifying lesbians because women, by the simple grace of being women, simply cannot do without men, that their whole existence is nullified if men aren't in it.
A male/female relationship which is platonic and based on equal terms can do so much to give some resolution to this issue.
As for the 'feminist' fans in this fandom, it is interesting to see how Sakura or Hinata stans think cheering their faves is a holy act of feminism while understanding nothing about feminism and female representation in media. It has created such a toxic environment in this fandom, and I am sure others. To a huge extent, I blame the industry because the target group of this genre is so impressionable, it's so easy to misinterpret things, especially with how these women are written. While I get why Kishi did it with these two female characters, given they would be paired up with his two main (and clearly gay, living in a homophobic world) characters for the sake of the sequel and that he writes other female characters much better than theirs, it still is very problematic. Because they were never condemned in the actual story. They were never called out. Never made to face consequences for their actions. And this, THIS, makes their fans so insistent about the apparent goodness of them, while sweeping the rest under the carpet. While it doesn't take a genius to spot their faults, it certainly takes a certain level of understanding of narrative, visual language, themes and understanding of the world.
I can talk about narrative subversion till my lungs give out but unless one shows an inclination to learn how narratives are built, they would keep sticking to their token understanding of concepts such as representation and feminism. Which is such a sad phenomenon. It is almost hurtful how so many fans are so willingly tone deaf and blind, all because of some shallow relationship they wish they had. It's amazing to me how well fortified their delusions are. How strong their willingness to be courted by a hot popular boy. How fine they are with having their fave character revolve around some guy for the most superficial of reasons. This is what their understanding of feminism amounts to. All this nonsense for some cheap self insert.
Even Sasuke stans who are anti SNS. They prefer thinking of Sasuke as some cool, badass, revolutionary man archetype who sleeps around and struts with his massive dick out. And this is how they facilitate their Sasuke*fem reader smut. These Guevara extremists who think homosexuality only exists in western societies, who also consider themselves uber feminists, who think Sasuke casually slept with Karin (because why wouldn't he? He is a man and he has a dick and a willing girl is around, it all makes sense lol), are fine with self inserting into a female character, as long as the badass revolutionary would casually fuck her and then throw her away or let her die without a second thought after his demands have been met. Because yay, feminism. Like irony goes to anti SNS and SS/NH to die a horrible death.
Hinata stans would get triggered at SNS posts or anti NH posts and share the same four Spanish panels of photographs of Naruto with his family because that's their understanding of a happy family. Orchestrated studio pictures. Because gay men living in a het marriage have never been clicked. Because gay men in het marriages don't exist. That's their extent of understanding a relationship. A family picture. It is certainly not a flex.
Just look at how SS apply all sorts of mental gymnastics to justify Sasuke staying away from his family for 12 freaking years. Like you can certainly feel bad for SS stans who even after Gaiden, had the courage to ship this ship. The levels of desperation. And to what ends? What is even their payback? Where is their reward? Kishi certainly isn't giving them any.
You know sometimes I feel shipping is a strong word for what I feel for the story. Because Naruto is just a love story about two boys. If I want them to be together, is it shipping? Shipping is such a fandom term. If that's what the story has led me to, to hope for the two main characters to have a resolution that the entire narrative has painstakingly led me to, is it really shipping? I am just an ordinary reader/audience who wants a good ending to this story. The way the creator wrote it. All I did was to follow what he wanted me to see. Is it then shipping or just a natural conclusion to the story? To want them to be with each other?
As for those fans who say 'we need more representation of men being friends, stop making everything gay' are so fucking silly. Like damn, don't we have enough representation of platonic male bonding? There are entire tropes based on that dynamic. Cop buddies, bro code, band of brothers, big brother mentor, bromantic foil, bros before hoes, brother from another mother and this goes on and on and on. I can count like forty films and twenty books off the top of my head that use these male bonding tropes. Just say you are a homophobic piece of shit. Why circumvent facts? Like we live in a patriarchal, heteronormative world and suddenly stories about men being friends are in jeopardy. Like c'mon, cut the utter bullshit. Lol.
There are only a handful of sane voices in fandoms. Because the rest of them leave and I totally understand why. Hehe. But while you are here, do what you can and then get out. This shit is not good for anyone long term.

in 22 years i was lucky enough that i never had the experience of hearing my family make the "nowdays they are all f****ts" speech and my god was it an experience.
never seen these fuckers more animated and united than when they were hating on the gays (obviously all directed to gay men and trans people because the omophobia and misoginy cancel each other out apparently).
i was already mad at half of them for my own personal reasons but my god. dead. to me they are talking corpses. better yet, i had talked to some of these people before and they seemed completely reasonable, even the old men were as compassionates as they could get with their "i don't get it but that's how the world goes and we got to accept that". but seeing how they all fueled each other tasteless jokes was really horrific. someone even gotten out the metrosexual thing??? getting it confused with drag queens i think???
and i know they were powerless in front of all this shit but what hurt more was probably the silence of my parents. i know they know what a drag queen is, we watched drag race together for a year. i know they know i'm gay, i introduced them to my girlfriend.
and i know i was powerless in front of that shit but i'm also disappointed in myself, there was a very young queer kid at that table today, i should have said something. but again what good would have made to just.. basically out myself to these people?
really the worst christmas ever yet my god i really liked it more when it was just a meme.

hi! i'm ash
they/them/xe/xem • panromantic • asexual • non binary • autistic (with suspicions of having adhd) • english • atheist quaker • a tad bit silly
been on the tumbler since 2021 so i know my way around here but i dont get every little reference (i get most and for the ones i dont i just nod and smile along). i am still a teenager so some Classic Posts are older than me and most are from when i was in primary school.
i dont really have a sophisticated tagging system, but if it helps, spouting to the void is my text post tag. i dont even strictly use it for text posts tbf
Tumblr media
blogs i run:
this one (obviously)
@blues-amazing-blog - oc blog (currently on hiatus)
@wswe-autism-fic - fanfic blog (for waluigi says 'wa' everyday until dekuyama is popular). i also treat this as an alt account for fandom stuff sometimes
@knuckles-with-a-keyboard - silly little blog where i pretend to be boom!knuckles (i really really love this blog its so fun)
@jupitercl0uds-art - my art blog (shock horror)
@nonbinary-sticks-the-badger - my sonic blog
external links (whoops forgot to add this)
maybe one day ill set up a linktree idk
ao3
letterboxd
twitter (i only use this for posting from my switch now)
spotify profile
dm me on discord: jupitercl0uds
i think thats it
click this link for more external links including some of the above ones but specifically how to contact me if i cant use tumblr
interests:
omg i love so many things its not even funny. a few important ones are waluigi (special interest), sonic the hedgehog (special interest AND hyperfixation (omg please kill me)), art (like, as a general thing, but particularly visual) and you WILL find me randomly posting oh-so-passionately about something ive never even mentioned before.
i do animation and illustration but that's over on my art blog. also all my animations are WIPs. you probably won't find anything other than a few weird lip syncs from when i was like 11 (i got into animation because of gacha life and animation memes). most of my art is sonic atm lol.
i also read and write fanfic! my wattpad and ao3 is jupitercl0uds :D
wattpad is mostly old stuff, crack and occasional reposts of my ao3 stuff. ao3 is mostly whatever is on my mind at the moment and WSWE.
misc
occasionally i get all heated up about actually important stuff. that's usually sandwiched inbetween my regular goofy goober behaviour. for the basic gist of it: very left wing, the tories are cunts, vote green, free palestine. you also need to understand the weight of that sentence because i hate swearing.
i have other socials too but i dont really use them that much. got bored of twitter and i forget about all my other accounts. only ones i use now are whatsapp (lmao), tumblr and i guess ao3 and wattpad. theres no real point in linking something i havent used in months
anyway, have a nice day and please go to bed on time!
faves (non-exhaustive)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
AUTISM BOY!!!! ANXIETY GUY!!!! MILES 'TAILS' PROWER!!!! he's been my favourite sonic character since i was little!!!! except for that brief period where it was amy because i found out tails was a boy and i, as a 7-year-old girl who had just learned about misoginy, decided amy was better because she was a girl. and that briefer period where it was cream because she had confetti in sonic dash.
my favourite iterations of him are scu tails, classic tails and sonic boom tails!!! i h/c him as autistic, having anxiety, low self-esteem but also being really cheerful and nonchalant about a lot of stuff. i enjoy trans tails of all kinds, but i believe in cis gnc tails.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
NON-BINARY ICON!!!! TOP SURGERY GUY!!!! WALUIGI!!!! call me thomas jefferson cause i have an entire binder on this guy. waluigi is THE blorbo from my spin-off-party-shows. i got into him because 'hahahaha! it is the funny garlic man's funny rose partner!' and that became 'they could marry me and i'd say yes on the basis that we'd get to see each other everyday, even if i only love him as a friend.
im very passionately hateful about 'hot' waluigi. shut up. waluigi is perfect. i hope he can be canon one day <3 i h/c him as autistic, transmasc non binary and really into gothic lolita. i interpret their relationship with wario as romantic partners and waluigi being super super poor. also, wlw mlm solidarity with rosalina!!!!!
anti-faves
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
dr starline i love a bisexual icon as much as the next person but starline is not it. i want him to Suffer. which is why i then go on to make loads of fanart of him where he's crying over something. in the one shown above, i have just kicked him in the balls (full image). i also would love to be a VA for him because that'd really piss him off. good style tho. you go girl.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
manjimutt (sorry but i only have 1 image of him)
hello to the other living yokai watch fan out there. i hate manjimutt. when i was younger i felt sorry for him, cause i was like 'oh, poor guy, always going to jail!!!' no. die. i do not like him. i hate manjimutt. i do like saying his name tho. MAnji-mutt! i think i hate him more than starline, because at least starline has redeeming qualities. the only redeeming qualities manjimutt has is pity because hes not actually committing crimes. thats it. hes not a nice person. hes just a guy. hit him with a wooden plank (har har).
that poor poor poodle though
posts i like
idk posts on my own blog i like a lot. idk if thisll be A Thing because im literally only doing tthis because of the first post on the list
recognising a url and the chaos that followed

1961: A Trans Person 🏳️‍⚧️ on Topolino?
Transgender people and Disney comics, certainly a pairing not very foreseeable, especially if the year we are considering is 1961.
Crossdressing and gender promiscuity has always been present in animation and comics, but as the pun of the joke, engaging in mockering and belittlement of the misunderstood and discriminated minorities. So, dressing as a woman has been a pervasive trope in many children-oriented media. As a result of this transgender people have never been portrayed in a un-ridiculing way.
[I will skip the eventual reclaim of some of these problematic portrayals by the LGBTQ+ community that happened later on.]
However, if we want to focus on actual trandgender people, avoiding any confusion with crossdressing and generic gender non conformity, it's safe to state that no member of this community has appeared in any form of Disney media prior to 1961.
In 1961 on Topolino "Topolino e il gigante della pubblicità" was published. Written and drawn by Romano Scarpa, it's a story centered around the endeavour of Mickey Mouse in the advertisement industry, where he ends up working side by side with an apparently redeemed Peg-leg Pete.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The character we should focus on is Mac Faxtor, the boss of a cosmetic company, who reveals to have an original backstory. Mac is an AFAB person who decided to live their life as a man, to overcome some gender-based disadvantages of the female life. They were an ugly woman who mastered beauty care, but their tecniques had no effect on themselves. So, to avoid a bad prejudicial reputation, they decided to transition into a man. It's self-evident how this backstory renders their identification with the transgender community problematic.
First and foremost there is no explicit identification with a different gender than the one assigned at birth as, in fact, Mac uses male pronouns only in public, but in private and with Mickey, after he has discovered their secret, they use female pronouns. Thus it seems that despite presenting male in public, Mac still identifies as a woman. On the other hand, although the premise for the gender reassignment seems disconnected from their gender identity, Mac decides to transition to escape the prison that the stereotypical depiction of the feminine gender imposes on women: the unfair weight of socially constructed beauty standards that women suffer, compared with men, who have a more nuanced relationship with beauty and aren't expected to care about it as much as women (we all know how this impacts the different experience that men and women have with aging).
If we can't talk about gender dysphoria for the case of Mac, a level of body dysmorphia should be taken into account.
Mac's experience relates to the concept of outing too. The entire story revolves around the blackmail carried out by Peg-leg Pete to extort money from Faxtor in exchange for keeping the truth about them a secret. Mickey's intervention succeeds in exposing Pete's crimes, while protecting Mac's life in stealth, as we see at the end Faxtor in their villa, presenting female, but being addressed as a man.
We may assume that they have continued their life as a genderfluid individual, seemingly not detransitioning, nor completely blending in as a man.
Although the character's backstory may be off putting compared to modern understanding of the transgender experience, it is interesting to highlight that the element of mockery is severely undertoned, compared to contemporary depictions of the situation, and indeed replaced, by some extent, with a more tragic overview of the life of a transgender person.
Adding to this, any moral insertion is expunged, as the author appears uninterested with the social implications of such a gender non conformity. At that time we would have expected a more bigoted approach to the matter, but bigotry is nearly absent (albeit some comedic misoginy about women being afraid of mice) and the hero of the story works to preserve the life in stealth of the gender non conforming individual. Very progressive, considering the conservative timeframe and country (probably even author) and the fact that this story was produced for mass market.

Spring 2023 Anime Season
Hey guys.
So, I will take over this blog to write about the animes that I'll watch this spring season:
Here is a list of all the shows that caught my attention and where I'll be watching:
Tumblr media
Eternal Boys- I know this anime premiered in 2022; however HIDIVE just added the first season to their platform so I am just hearing about this. Everything related to older men will get my attention, add to the mix a story about second opportunities and I'm sold. As I said before, this aniem is available on HIDIVE.
Tumblr media
Hell's Paradise- I mean, It's MAPPA. That is enough to get anyone's attention, the studio that has made Yuri On Ice, Jujutsu Kaisen, Attack On Titan and Chainsaw Man is not done with exploiting its workers and will add another jewel to the crown; If you only have the chance to watch an anime this season, choose this one. You can wath it legally on Crunchyroll.
Tumblr media
Tengoku Daimakyou- I just saw the first episode on Starz+ and I see a mix of elements from the promised neverland and the last of us in this story, It definitely left hanging from the cliff of my chair at some moments of the first episode so if you want to feel anxious this might be your go to anime of the season.
Tumblr media
Ranking of Heroes The Chest of Courage- I mean, season one is a masterpiece; averything about this anime worked so well on season one that it´s almost impossible for season two to be just OK, so yeah, of course I'm gonna be watching this anime on Crunchyroll.
Tumblr media
My Home Hero- I literally just added this beacause I have a thing for middle aged men in suits, but after I watched the first episode I can tell you that this is actualy the first episode of any anime that has aired on this year that completely captured me, maybe it's because my country suffers from a lot of misoginy, or because I relate so well with the protective instincts when a family member is in danger, or maybe because when I was a child my parents let me watch all the seasons of Desperate Housewives so I'm used to watching this sort of storie play out. But boy oh boy this was super fun to watch, I really hope that it continues being this great. Oh, you can watch this on crunchyroll btw.
Tumblr media
Mashle - TBH I don´t know anything about this anime other than the aesthetic is looking very harry potter-ish and I'm here for it so I only hope it delivers on that; if the story and the animations are good it will be a plus. This will be legally available on Crunchyroll.
Tumblr media
Magical Destroyers- I mean, look at the character design. I just find the story so appealing, specially with everything that is happening around the globe right now; This anime has so many ways of going completely wrong but If the production team get it right, It has potential to be the hidden jewel of the spring season. This anime will be available on crunchyroll.
Tumblr media
KONOSUBA AN EXPLOSION ON THIS WONDERFUL WORLD- It's Konosuba, so the laughs are guaranteed. Not much to say other than you can watch it legally on Crunchyroll.
Tumblr media
Dr. Stone New World- TBH I don't understand why is this show not huge. I love the character design and the story is very innovative for a manga that's published on Shonen Jump. Watch it on Crunchyroll folks, seriously, you will laugh, cry and get very excited over these fellas.
Tumblr media
Demon Slayer: Swordsmith Village- The anime of the season. If you don't watch KNY you are the definition of a hermit. Also Obviously this will be availabe on Crunchyroll.
Tumblr media
Golden Kamuy Season 4- This anime has a chokehold on me, from the representation of a culture that the japanese Government has tried to erase in the past, to the complexity of the characters and the INCREASINGLY homoerotic moments tha the author carefully administrates throughout the story (the author even gave us a ranking of dicks for all the male characters XD) It really is a joy to watch this anime and I wish more people showed some love.
If you are interested in some of these animes, maybe we can follow each other and discuss about them :).

i saw in your intro post you’re vegan? how so? this is me being genuinely curious because you said not in the way we think
im vegetarian btw 💪 i dont think i’d ever be able to be fully vegan but i might try!
hiii thanks for asking!! i get sooo excited when someone asks me that sdflkisfhg tysm :D
so yess i am! technically i follow the description of "what a vegan is". like i don't consume anything that is or belongs to an animal, but i usually say that because of the political part. there are many "divisions" (idk if there's a proper name to it?) inside the vegan movement, such as the pragmatic one and the popular one! i'm not sure of the translations of those though, that's how we call them in portuguese.
i'm not getting into the pragmatic/strategic one bc i'm not part of it and i also don't wanna say anything that isn't true. now the popular/political/idealistic movement (my beloved <3) defends that veganism must be a fight that includes everyone and every other fight, since anti-speciesism should defend both non-human and human animals. it says that veganism cannot go on and change the world for the better if it isn't against capitalism, racism, misoginy, ableism, queerphobia and everything else.
oh and one of the most important things in this group is that veganism must be an accessible way of living for everyone. it defends local producers, familiar agriculture. real food and not ultra-processed stuff that cause so much harm to this world and to people themselves.
all the materials i know about this are in portuguese, but i believe that it's possible to translate the pages
this one talks about the pragmatic 'right wing' one: https://veganagente.com.br/veganismo-liberal/
and this one is for the political: https://veganagente.com.br/veganismo-popular-politico/
im so sorry, this is way too long aaaaa no one ever asks me to talk about it
and a vegetarian mutual??? i couldn't be happier fjstgjjdg i believe in your potential, i also thought i couldn't but after doing way too much research i found out veganism is actually a pretty easy thingy! my biggest trouble nowadays is dealing with people tbh haha
i prob wasn't clear at all here, but if you have any questions I'll be more than happy to help! :3

ten characters and ten fandoms
Rules (which were blatantly ignored): name ten of your favorite characters from ten different fandoms, then tag ten people to do the same.
Thanks for tagging @hiddenlookingglass! always a fan of anything fandom related. In very random order:
1. Gideon the Ninth: Gideon Nav, first flower of my house, the greatest cavalier we have ever produced, our triumph, the best of all of us, Her Most Serene Highness Crown Prince Kiriona Gaia the First, First Lieutenant of the Cohort, heir to the Emperor Divine, first of the Tower Princes, you get it. Love. Was obsessed when I first read of her at 19, would have made her my entire personality had I read the book at 15, no regrets. Still obsessed.
2. Naruto: well, Naruto. I grew up with the anime and, blatant misoginy aside, there is nothing like shonen to believe you too, who come from horrible beginnings and are the subject of ridicule and misfortune, will fight tooth and nail and win and be happy.
3. The Old Guard: Andy. Andromache of Scythia. Because I would let her kill me if it so pleased her.
4. Avatar The Last Airbender: Sokka. He’s funny, he’s loyal, he’s a non-bender but saves the day anyway, he’s smart, what’s not to like.
5. The Last of Us: Joel. Who wouldn’t want a reluctant but loving father figure ready to commit war crimes for you, a short, unlucky lesbian.
(edit) 6. Millennium Trilogy: Lisbeth Salander! How could I forget about my beloved! I support women's rights but most importantly I support women's wrongs. Go Lisbeth.
I know it’s technically cheating but I’m only going to list five because I’m procrastinating and if I were to get to ten we would go back to the roots of my 2014 SuperWhoLock days. And maybe I’m gonna edit later. Tagging @hrimceald @thorlokibrother @questwithambition @krzoska @skelettoine and whoever else wants to
