I was inspired by @jezifster's recent question about non-gendered royal titles, and I put together this graphic to serve as a jumping off point for people writing monarchies in SFF !

Obviously this non-exhaustive list contains mainly western titles, all in English. Feel free add any on additional gender neutral terminologies that you can think of, including those from different languages and cultures!

A small addition: I'm not a linguist or historian and put this list together based on some quick googling! While you're free to flex the usage and meanings of these words however you choose, researching the real-world context of each term before using them in your own writing is a best practice.

The other day I was on a walk in the evening with two of my friends (both girls) and we were talking about how safe or unsafe we feel in different places at night and one of them said she always carries a pocket knife with her and the other one said

"See now I feel pretty safe, you have a knife, I'm tall and" she turns to me "your gender presentation is weird enough to confuse a potential attacker."

I've never felt more gender validation in my entire life.

Like, not only do you understand yourself well enough to self identify your gender outside of what was assigned at birth, but you're creative and have enough self understanding to literally make up a new term that didn't exist before? That's some fantastic Shakespeare level shit.

Y'all are literally visionaries and people don't give you enough credit. It's so fucking amazing whenever people are literally able to find a term that they relate to despite the fact that that term is rare and has barely been talked about before.

Y'all are literally trailblazers and you are a vital part of the LGBTQIA+ community. MOGAI and neo identities are what are able to keep our community evolving to be more inclusive and just better for everyone in it.

Currently having happy autism gender moment because when I was 7-8 my special interest was learning sign from watching things by Rachel Coleman. Baby signing time and such. You know? Anyways, was looking into it again now that im a teen. I saw a video from Rachel's "daughter Leah" and they were signing a song. I was like "I missed this, this is awesome. She looks very gender-"

So I Googled them and scrolled down. I saw "Who is Liam Coleman from Baby Signing Time?" As a search suggestion. I was like "who the hell is Liam-?" And clicked and the stars sorta aligned in my brain reading the dissipation with "they" instead of "she"

I found them on socail media. Yeah. Their name is Liam Coleman and they use they/them and the special interest from when I was younger plus this anyways gonna learn some more asl and be happy and cry because I love seeing people be themselves and I'm not used to other they

speaking french and spanish and having non-binary pronouns is a curse

and i'm not even talking about the fact that the whole language is gendered

i'm talking about the fact that "elle" in spanish (pronounced "eyé" (?) is a gender neutral contraction of el and ella

but "elle" in french is basically "she"

So saying that my pronouns are iel/they/elle confuses french speaking people when they read it because they think that my pronouns are basically french-they/they/she and it's annoying lmao

I wish i was intersex. and i know that just sounds like a very insensitive thing to say but i really truly mean it. Not in the sense of "oh i want to be nonbinary sex lol" cuz thats not how that fucking works but like. i read about a lady who was intersex and she described her particular situation as she had the feminine bits on the outside, bit nothing on the inside, and no like vagina, hole i guess. and that is just exactly what i get gender dysphoria over.

a penis is preferable to what i have but it still sucks. and having a hole inside me just on the deepest level feels like i am constantly wounded. it is not natural to me to have a cavity there. and sometimes i want to scream becuade no one gets that.

its hard cuz i dont know how much of my gender dysphoria over my down there buts is influenced by my aceness and my sex repulsion but i just hate the way my body is sexualised that way. weirdly enough i'd feel slightly better about it if i could present masculine, but it'd still be bad.

i just want to be like a doll, all smooth and no worries about anything. i feel like i wasn't made for a grown adult body sometimes. i was made to play games and cover things in glitter and talk to people who dont try to layer things under mountains of confusion and to love and be loved in an innocent way.
