Everytime I see you making comic recs I add like five new things to my to read list 😂 what're some of your fav comics, and which comics do you think are underated???? 💖

I've been re-reading a lot of non-batfam comics lately, specifically with other Titans and Young Justice members.

I think Bart Allen's Flash run (Fastest Man Alive) is underrated in a couple aspects. First, we get to see Bart as something other than Young Justice's hyperactive teenager—here he's a young adult who's a little more jaded but still has heart. Second, I think it gives Bart the spotlight in death as well as in life (even though he comes back later because comics). One thing I never was a fan of in both Young Justice canon and fanon is how Bart's death is completely brushed aside in favor of focusing on Kon. I think that's a consequence of decades of him being relegated to Tim and Kon's tagalong. I highly suggest Fastest Man Alive and the 90s Impulse run because Bart is a fascinating character and an underrated member of the Flash Family.

This isn't DC, but I've also been revisiting America Chavez and Kamala Khan's comics with the new movie/show. I think G. Willow Wilson's origin of Ms. Marvel and Kalinda Vasquez's Made In The USA are great ways to introduce yourself to the characters if you're meeting them for the first time through the MCU. Both comics are fun and highlight the core of Kamala and America's personalities. I especially love the artwork in Ms. Marvel because it's not your typical hard outlines and bold colors—there's a softness to it even in intense scenes that lends well to Kamala and the world she is living in. And in Made In The USA, you get the highlights of America's relationship with Kate Bishop through the turns of dialogue and subtle actions.

top 5 comic book characters

Cassandra Cain / Batgirl II - Probably my all-time favorite DC character and Batfam member. I was introduced to her as a teenager and have never looked back! I'm planning on rereading Batgirl Vol. 1 to get reacquainted but like... when it comes to redemptive storylines and characters seeking redemption, she's it, I think. And I remember reading someone saying that she would be the perfect successor to Bruce's Batman and have wholeheartedly agreed ever since. She was raised by her shitty assassin father with violence and body language as her forms of communication in order to be a killer, but the first time she killed someone as a child it traumatized her so much that she ran away and wound up in Gotham, and strives for redemption and seeks it through donning the Batgirl mantel. She loses her ability to fight and read body language but then, after agreeing to fight Lady Shiva (her birth mother) to the death a year later in exchange to be retrained, gains it again. "Mediocre for a lifetime, or perfect for a year." / "I don't kill... but I don't lose, either." There's a lot I don't remember so there's a lot I'm not saying about her that I wish I could but she's just... *gestures vaguely* one of her monikers is "the one who is all" and I could not agree more <3 I'm planning to revisit Batgirl Vol. 1 and get reacquainted with her, but. There's something about a person who was raised to kill and then, when she does, runs and chooses to be good. She seeks redemption and wants to atone for what she's done, to the point where she has a death wish, and is willing to die for it, but the catch is... the moment she wanted to be a hero, to be good, she set it in motion. She was already on her way to becoming what she so desperately strived to be (good) the second she ran away from Cain! I just. I love her so much <3

Jason Todd / The Red Hood - The first DC character I loved properly after the regular exposure to DC and Marvel content in childhood. And, if memory serves, the character that got me into comics. The second Robin, murdered at the hands of the Joker and then when he comes back from the dead... finds out that nothing changed. That everything is the same, as bad as it was before he died. That the man who hurt and murdered him is still up and walking around, only a matter of time before he gets out of Arkham. I was an angry kid and in retrospect connected with how angry he was, that the person he loved (still loves, I think, even though things are not great between them) as a father did not avenge his death. The fact that he was wronged to such a degree and, in his eyes, virtually nothing was done about it. That, upon coming back from the dead, he resorted to using the tactics of those he'd fought against as a child in order to control crime in order to protect people. That now he goes to the lengths that Bruce didn't go for him to do what he and Bruce did up until his death. That, even though his methods make him a killer, even though he's an anti-hero, he's still not the same as his killer, as people like his killer. I had never seen that kind of nuance in a comic book character at that age. I think he is a great anti-hero and a very interesting character in the landscape of 'typical' comic book character heroes. Also the fact that he says shit like "I've been bamboozled!" ... fantastic tbh <3 ALSO, the way heath @edeemir writes him and incorporates him with their OCs makes me so :') about him. Heath humanizes him and makes him both human and tangible in a way that I think even many comic writers miss out on.

Kate Bishop / Hawkeye - Don't have a lot of thoughts on her because I haven't read about her more than Matt Fraction's Hawkeye but I think she's great. I have a soft spot for heroes who aren't superpowered but either become or want to be heroes anyway, and she definitely fits the bill. I think she's a great counterpart to Barton's Hawkeye and she tries her best.

Natasha Romanoff - I will never, ever forgive the MCU for what they did to her. They turned a compelling character into... whatever that was. She was my favorite Marvel comics character as a teenager. I haven't read it in years but The Name of the Rose is still, to date, her best solo title I think. The comicbook version of her, when done, right, is cool! She's awesome! I love her! But she's not always done right and as a result I haven't familiarized myself with her in many other adaptions. I do remember being an avid Winterwidow/Buckynat shipper, too, but it's been too long to say anything about that beyond the fact that the MCU also missed out on doing something with them.

Kurt Wagner - I have only recently become acquainted with him as I never was into X-Men as a kid but oh my god do I love him... every time someone says "he's a cutie!" in the comics when someone else goes "a demon!" I'm like SO TRUE!!!!!! He's wonderful. He's great. He's charming. I am dropping hints that I would like to be smooched by Kurt Nightcrawler Wagner. Even from what little I've seen of him... he cares so much for his friends, he chooses love, he's capable and kind and warm. His whole "I'm a lover, not a fighter" shtick WORKS on me. I think he is the most handsome dude win Marvel comics. He's a good man and I love him. When will he kiss ME! Asking for a friend <3

There is a another character I want to list here but I want to make a proper essay/analysis post after rereading their issues in [redacted] because I don't wanna get it wrong but I keep forgetting to do that. And it's a question of "am I right or am I just biased and want to rewrite their character. " So. That may or may not happen soon <3

Things I think people misunderstand about my favorite characters

Hmmm... I haven't been involved with comic fandom at large for a very long time but I do vaguely remember some people thinking Cass was boring as Batgirl. And to them I say. You are stupid and you understand nothing <3 You don't have to like her (even though I think she is very likeable!) but don't SLANDER her like that. + The only people who understand Jason's characterization are my mutuals and their trusted sources and mutuals. That's it. Everything else needs to be peer reviewed and assessed before further comment <3 Also when will they give him a costume THAT DOESN'T SUCK! WHEN! HOW LONG MUST WE WAIT FOR HIM TO GET A DECENT HELMET!

In Supersons we see a couple of kids that are implied to be Damian and Jon's children and the boy has laser eyes and can fly, so I asume he's not adopted. The girl, who calls Bruce grandpa, can also fly, btw. So it's canon (probably by accident) that Jon can have kids and he must have married one of Bruce's kids. (I'm hoping for Damian, mostly because any other of his children would be waaaaaaaaaaaaay too old.) @artemisa97

mostly each others homes in gotham, during z's new boot goofin arc. they can both be found at the manor depending on the circumstances. also, ur the only one who knows about this, so this may be like completely incoherent and confusing to everyone else But basically jiahao's old haunts. keme would linger there whenever he would come visit earth bc they were the only places he would be able to go and relax in peace without being dubbed suspicious by the royal court back on jiahao's home planet, and when keme introduces adult zoe to them, they become places for zoe to hang out in too.

zoe loves to hang out in her workshop a lot. if she's not out on a mission, at the ranch, at jiahao's old gang haunts, or at home, then she's at her workshop slaving away making things bc she's a WORKAHOLIC and an INSOMNIAC who needs to REST. donna's home is also a safe haven for her and was one pre-death when keme was gone and zoe was kind of lost.

when keme finds his restaurant and is able to settle more, he's found there. though this would also serve as his part-time gotham apartment.

idk if this counts bc it's v close to the ranch but when either of them gets super upset and just needs a moment away from everything but doesnt want to disappear completely, they'll go to the top of blanca peak which is where their ranch is located under and they'll sit and just,,,be. and that's where they'll usually find each other after one of them has thrown a temper tantrum or something. (does this count as the ranch? it's not ON the ranch ekdkdj)

pre jason's & zoe's deaths what teams/heroes would zoe & keme be seen working with the most?

zoe worked with dick's og titans the most but was never like,,, an official 'titan.' she was more of an honorary titan but she did work with them like, a whole lot.

during that time, keme was mostly on zoe control duty. he wasnt out there to fight crime, he was out there to make sure his little sister didnt blow a fuse and blow up the eastern seaboard :) he was mostly along for the ride at the time which meant that he mostly worked with whoever zoe was working with to keep her from getting hurt or going too far. this piqued the interest of the JL and then WHABAM they ended up scooping him up (thanks aunt diana) and he ended up as a SUUUPER young member of the JL

then, jason's robin came along and zoe joined jason's five second of fame version of the titans (which i have decided to shuffle again and change up bc i am an indecisive bitch!!!) but did consist of rose wilson, eddie bloomberg, connor hawke, kyle rayner, and i was thinkin of addin artemis crock. dunno we will see it is in production.

zoe and keme also worked with barbara pre-death and are v familiar with her!!

how much do people know in general know about the huangs family history?

im guessing u mean like in verse. they know practically nothing!!! in fact, people probably think they know more about kya's side of the family than they do jiahao's when really they,,,,know next to nothing!! kya's side is just as mysterious as jiahao's and kya's family originates ON EARTH :)

about the huang family? i'd say pre death, jason doesn't know a lot, but he knows enough to laugh with zoe whenever they all hitch a ride in the back of the truck into town and overhear some shop owner raving about how no one had fixed their roof the way kanti had with her tools and how her blankets had kept their grandmother warm through the tough winter, what did you use?

and post death, i'd say jason knows a bit more. gradually he learns bits and pieces here and there. esp if he reunites with keme pre red hood reveal 👀, i'd say he's begun to unravel the bigger picture on jiahao well before anyone else outside of the family has. by the time he and keme are like,,, married (i will sob, anytime i am reminded of this i eueueueu) i think jason knows QUITE A BIT about BOTH SIDES and is well integrated into the family.

I love the idea of a singing batfam, so here are my (long rambly) headcanons:

Bruce: As Batman, he sounds like a chain smoking grizzly bear gargling nails. But as Bruce Wayne, his voice actually isn’t bad. Singing-wise, he was one of those ‘prodigy’ children, growing up. Martha Wayne was best friends with a famous opera singer, so she insisted on teaching Bruce everything she knew about vocal performance. As a result, he has a beautifully rich baritone voice, and a pretty freaking incredible range. And as far as any member of the League or general public are concerned, Bruce/Batman doesn’t sing at all, so don’t ask. But with his family? Bruce has been known to crack a smile and sing a few lines on occasion. When he’s on his own? He lets loose. Sounds like Hugh Freaking Jackman.

Kate: Her voice is very clipped and to-the-point, which kind of fits with her personality. Could not carry a tune in a bucket, but that’s fine by her.

Dick: Dick sings second tenor. He didn’t sing much as a kid, coming from an acrobat family and all. But after Bruce took him in, Alfred took it upon himself to change that. He’s got a pretty great range, all things considered, and once Alfred got him hooked on singing, the boy does it nonstop. He’ll sing on patrols, he’ll sing as he fixes himself breakfast…basically anytime, anywhere. Songs off the radio, songs his friends introduce him to, that annoying jingle for a car commercial that’s this close to driving Tim insane? All fair game. Bruce once walked in on him while he was doing a dramatic rendition of Sia’s Chandelier–while literally swinging from the manor’s crystal chandelier. (Musicals are probably his favorites to do, though, btw.)

Jason: This boy has a deep voice. Definitely a bass. When he talks, it’s a little raspy, but not in a bad way, and he’s also got a bit of a Bowery accent. It especially comes through when he’s tired or ticked off. When he sings, though, he can go higher, all the way up to baritone if he wants. But while he’s been known to sing soulful, heartfelt pieces when he thinks no one’s watching, his true passion is for rap music. On Gotham’s streets, it’s pretty common for street kids to have impromptu rap battles, and you’d best believe Jay could hold his own.

Tim: Let’s face it. His parents were the kind of folks who signed their kid up for every activity under the sun. Soccer, Lacrosse, Underwater Basket Weaving, you name it. Why not vocal lessons? And Tim, ever the perfectionist, worked at his voice until he was satisfied with his own ability. His voice is higher than his brothers’; he sings first tenor, and can go up to second alto if he warms up enough. (I feel like he’d sound like Sam Tsui–check him out on Youtube!)  A few years back on patrol, he was a little too close to an explosion, and suffered a bit of hearing damage. So when he talks, Timmy’s just a little louder than everyone else, unless he works really hard to bring his volume down.

Barbara: As far as anyone else can tell, she’s never taken a voice lesson in her life, yet for whatever reason, this girl is just naturally gifted. (It frustrates the heck out of the others.) Her voice is a smooth alto. She almost never sings, though.

But being both the Oracle and a librarian in her off-time, she deals with dozens upon dozens of frustrated heroes and bookworms on the regular. Her customer-service voice is eerily on-point. So she either sounds pleasantly ‘eager to help’–or vaguely threatening. If she uses it on any of the Bats, they’re 110% more likely to do anything she asks. Especially Dick and Jason.

Stephanie: Huge musical theater kid growing up. When someone’s singing through the comms on patrols, if it’s not Dick, it’s definitely Steph. She’s a soprano, but has the best range out of anyone (aside from Bruce). Because of this, she’s always trying to imitate the others. To their surprise (and chagrin) she’s getting pretty good at it. So far, Steph has Tim, Damian, Cass, and Dick down to a T. She’s still working on the others, and someday hopes to achieve Bruce’s Bat Voice.

When she sings, she loves to initiate duets with her siblings. Tim and Jason will indulge her, more often than not. Sometimes Cass and Barbara will join in. Bruce has only caved once (and if asked, he will deny it). But Dick? He’s her go-to choice, since he’s DTS (down to sing) all day, every day. Once these two get going, they don’t stop until one of them loses their voice or the entire family shouts them down.

Cassandra: Cass has a very clear, soprano tone. It’s absolutely gorgeous, but she’s very shy and sensitive about her voice, and rarely sings. Whenever one of her siblings is injured and/or laid up in bed, though, she’ll softly sing them lullabies while they recover.

When she chooses to speak, Cass is very soft spoken, but has ways of making herself heard if need be.

Harper: She has a thick Jersey accent, and a no-nonsense tone of voice. No one has ever heard her sing, though. (She would not sing if someone put a gun against her head, tbh.)

Duke: Everyone figured he’d be into rap like Jason, since they came from roughly the same part of Gotham, but Duke’s true passion is jazz. His dad was in a jazz group, and Duke inherited his father’s smooth jazzy baritone. Low-key, he has the best voice out of all of them, and he’s super passionate, since music was a huge deal to his biological family. He loves singing during quiet nights in the cave, or on patrol. He’s gotten the most standing ovations from random cops and citizens, and even the mayor asked him to perform for a charity event once. (An offer Duke respectfully declined.) Out of all the others, he was voted ‘Most Likely to Burst Into Brooding Song On A Rooftop Somewhere’. Bruce is so proud.

Damian: Everyone hoped he’d inherit his father’s golden vocal chords, but for now, he seems to have taken after his Aunt Kate. This frustrates Damian to no end, and for a long time, he hated listening to any of his siblings sing, knowing full well that he couldn’t join them. After months of watching the kid shrink away from anything musical, Jason had enough. He sat the youngest Robin down and taught him an art form he’d picked up from the streets of the Gotham City Narrows: beatboxing. At first, Damian thought it was crass and inelegant, but he eventually got into it. Now? He’s very good at it. The kid has mad skills, and more often than not, his siblings’ll ask him to back them up during rap battles or musical numbers. Maybe he’ll grow into his voice someday, but for now, he’s totally fine with just ‘dropping a beat’ for the others.

Alfred: Has a very thick cockney accent, but can mimic just about any other British accent whenever the fancy strikes him. Like every other aspect of the butler’s life, his singing career is an enigma. The others have heard him sing before, and he’s actually pretty good. But sometimes, random people will come up to him on the street, gushing and screaming his name while they beg for an autograph. There’s a running bet amongst the batkids as to what that’s all about, but so far? It’s anyone’s guess.
