so when straight people ask me why I say I’m “queer” or “gay” instead of sharing my actual identity as a panromantic demisexual non-binary sapphic queer I just tell them “ok look, when you’re talking to someone who isn’t local and they ask you where you’re from and you either say the name of the largest city nearby or ‘town name, suburb of large nearby city’ so they can get some geographical context of where you’re located right, bc they’re probably not going to know the name of the little town you actually live in.”
but if you’re talking to a local you can say the name of your actual town bc they have a greater chance of knowing where/what that is.
ok well when I’m talking to a straight person I start with queer bc chances are they aren’t as familiar with the context of all the little towns in that big queer city and need gps (gay positioning system) to find me.
if I’m talking to another queer person and I say I live in a suburb of gay city in a town called panromantic on the demisexual side of the tracks which is in the county of queer and I live off the intersection of non-binary and sapphic, they’d probably be able to find me with little to no problems, make sense?

I want to go to a gay bar
However I do not want to go to a gay bar because I do not, nor will I ever, drink alcohol. I do not particularly want to be around drunks.
So instead of a gay bar, I propose a Queer Cat Cafe.
Non allergenic cats ofc
There's a section of the cafe where the cats can't go if you don't want cats near you. That section is the library.
There are lil pride flags everywhere, even the obscure ones.
They sell pride pins for £1.50ish each at the counter.
There are LED lights.
It's autism friendly, lights can be toned down if needed and everything is neatly spaced out
You can have a sticker to write your pronouns on
Mostly queer artists/songs played
feel free to add on

So, I'm a panromantic asexual, right? And that's a lot of syllables. I could use the short forms instead.
So, I'm a pan ace, right? And that's a lot easier to say, but it's not as cool as it could be. There's a word that already exists, though, that sounds kinda similar, and it works because of the aces and cake thing.
So, I propose this: I'm a pancake.

HEY! HEY YOU
if you like using microlabels and feel like they fit you better so that's what you use, YOU ARE VALID!
if you don't like using microlabels and prefer the general labels because that what you feel like fits you better, YOU ARE VALID!
remember, its YOUR box and YOU are the only one who gets to choose how you identify and what labels you use!

(tired salesman voice) you better believe it, homosexuality is actually not a sin! A horrible misinterpretation of the Bible and a bad translation to English started this idea! Any other questions!?

Here is how I explained asexuality to my mother:
*
My Mom: What exactly is asexual?
Me: It means that I experience little to no sexual attraction.
My Mom: I just don’t understand that. You thought [name redacted] was cute.
Me: I still think [name redacted] is cute. I just don’t experience any sexual attraction towards them.
My Mom: That doesn’t make any sense to me.
Me: Well, I can recognize when someone is ugly, cute, uniquely hot, and when they are considered sexy, but I still don’t experience sexual attraction to any of them.
My Mom: I’m not saying that you don’t feel this way, or that I don’t believe you, but how could that be possible?
Me: Okay, so, let’s say that I have 4 pairs of shoes in front of me. The first pair are crocs, the second pair are ballet flats, the third pair are those chunky spice girls platform sandals, and the fourth pair are red stilettos.
My Mom: Okay…
Me: Now, I would classify the crocs as an ugly shoe. Do you agree?
My Mom: Yes.
Me: I would classify the ballet flats as cute.
My Mom: So would I.
Me: I would classify the platform sandals as ugly-hot. I know you hate them, but they call to me, and I still love them to this day. Does that make sense?
My Mom: *laughing* Yes.
Me: Lastly, I would classify the red stilettos as hot and/or sexy. Like, that’s a sexy shoe.
My Mom: Absolutely!
Me: Okay, now, even though I can recognize that these shoes have varying degrees of attractiveness, I do NOT want to fuck the shoes…and that is also how I feel about people.
My Mom: Ooohhhh, that makes way more sense to me. I get it now. Well, I don’t “get it,” because I’m straight, but I understand what you mean.
*
Basically, this is how I felt trying to explain things:
