Narcissa rolled her eyes, "Frank, as you are aware, is your Quidditch captain and best friend." Alice cast her eyes downward, taking a keen interest in Narcissa's new boots. "I'm not blind, Alice. I see how he looks at you."

Without meeting her gaze, Alice muttered, "Well, maybe you're too busy looking at him that you don't see who I'm looking at."

Narcissa's heart skipped a beat.

She forced a haughty laugh and sounded rather, she though, like Bellatrix when she answered, "And who would that be?"

Now Alice lifted her head. Soft brown eyes filled with so much longing that it practically spilled out onto her rosy cheeks.

"You." Alice replied earnestly, "I can pick you out in any crowd, any party, the seeker in any match. I can't stop looking at you."

Narcissa choked on her words. Another biting retort lost.

"Me?" She croaked.

Alice nodded forcefully, fixing her soft eyes on Narcissa's, icy blue. Narcissa wanted nothing more than to chart the other girls freckles like constellations. Maybe one day, Alice would let her.

okay i have this little headcanon

where narcissa tells regulus about alice (her gf) without naming any names

and then when narcissa has to get married to lucius, and break it off with alice, regulus is the only one who could comfort her

then a couple years later, regulus tells narcissa about james (his bf)

and then when regulus gets the dark mark, and james ends it with him, narcissa helps him ‘get over it’ in return<3

they’re not each others first choice on who to talk to

that would be andromeda and sirius

but just the fact that they both know that the other is also a second choice is comfort enough

I'm always joking about Lily being perfect, but honestly, they don't always need to be the "queen, girlboss who stands for herself and knows she's better than everyone else," because that's not how people work. Let the girls be real, let the girls have flaws just like the boys. Let them say the wrong things sometimes, let them mess up. Let them be human. And let's normalize, not villainize, them just for it. When the boys show just a little development, everyone kisses their feet.

Let them be mean and angry and petty. Let them cry over things they shouldn’t care about or hold grudges for too long. Let them make bad decisions out of fear or selfishness. Let them be complicated and messy and everything that makes a character feel alive.

We celebrate male characters for being morally grey/antiheroes and for having arcs full of mistakes and redemption. Why can’t girls have the same? Why can’t they stumble and fall, and be loved anyway? Let them struggle with jealousy or insecurity. Let them hurt people and then try (imperfectly) to make it right.

And when they grow, when they learn, let it feel earned. Let their development be messy, nonlinear, and human. Let them be everything that makes a real person, not just a symbol of perfection or empowerment. Because real strength doesn’t come from being flawless—it comes from the courage to be imperfect and still keep going. That's a girlboss.
