hi!! im writing a story and everything is moving smoothly except for the part when they are outside because it’s winter and there’s snow.

now i’ve never seen snow or know what that type of weather feels like and i want to describe how it can affect the characters while they are talking outside a party, they are both escaping the loud noises from inside but i would like to describe if their noses turn red or if they feel their cheeks bone, something like that. could you help me? please and thank you!

How to Describe a Character in Cold Weather

As they stepped out into the crisp winter air, the contrast was immediate. The noise from the party muffled to a distant hum, replaced by the serene silence of the snow-covered night.

The cold nipped at their cheeks, making them feel tingly and alive, while their breath formed little clouds in the frosty air.

Snowflakes drifted down from the sky like tiny, glistening stars. They landed in his eyelashes as they spoke, causing him to blink as he fought off the chill.

Their noses reddened quickly, a vivid splash of color against the pale backdrop.

Her cheeks were blushed pink from the cold, and she sniffled to stop her nose from running.

They could feel the cold biting at the tips of their ears and the bridge of their noses, an icy reminder of winter’s presence.

Their teeth were chattering as they spoke. No matter how much they willed them to stop, they were relentless.

They both instinctively pulled their scarves a little tighter around their necks, trying to ward off the chill.

The air was biting at his skin, and he felt nearly too cold to even move.

Her fingers were numb beneath her gloves.

The snow crunched softly beneath their feet, and the soft, powdery flakes that landed on their eyelashes melted away almost instantly, leaving tiny droplets that made their lashes feel heavy.

being a writer leads to a genuinely helpful but also very stupid kind of mindfulness where you'll be having a sobbing breakdown or the worst anxiety attack of your life and think "okay, I really need to pay attention to how this feels. so I can incorporate it into my fanfiction."

We wanted to tackle one of the trickiest parts of Superman mythos; and that's the entangled romance between Clark Kent, Lana Lang, Lois Lane and Superman. Often times these more mundane parts of Superman get pushed to the side, when they can give so much insight into the characters and what they're seeking from each other.

we cry "the innocent women and children" to appeal to the masses, to try and force their sympathy, but the men and boys are innocent too.

I have seen sons crying out for their mothers, their fathers, their siblings. I have seen them break down at the loss of their families. I have seen them cling to their dead and grieve.

I have seen fathers cradle their dead children, seen them kiss their faces and hold their little hands. I have seen them faint with grief when asked to identify the dead. I have seen them carry their sons and daughters. I have seen them fasting to provide what little they can for their families.

I have seen men and boys digging through the rubble with just their bare hands, I have seen them comforting strangers, playing with children, rocking them, hushing them, even if the face of such imminent danger. I have seen them cry, seen them grieve, seen them break down into each other's arms, seen them be selfless, beyond selfless, becoming something I don't have a word for.

I have seen the men who are doctors refuse to leave their patients, even when they have no medicine or supplies to give them, even when they're threatened with bombings. I have seen fathers who have lost all their children pick orphans up into their arms and proclaim them their child so they are not alone. I have seen men and boys digging pets out of the rubble.

the men are innocent too. the men and boys are being hurt and killed too. the men and boys are grieving too. the men and boys are scared too. the men and boys are fighting to save their people too. the men and boys deserve to be fought for too.

He leaned forward in his chair, eager to hear more, his eyes sparkling with curiosity.

She raised an eyebrow, her expression skeptical as she questioned his intentions.

He watched intently, his eyes wide with wonder as he took in every detail of her story.

He stood tall with his shoulders back, projecting confidence even in the face of uncertainty.

They sat on the edge of their seat.

She gestured wildly, her hands moving animatedly as she tried to express her excitement.

He stood with his hands on his hips, exuding an air of authority and control over the situation.

They held their chin up high, projecting self-assurance even in the face of adversity.

Defensiveness/Resignation

He crossed his arms over his chest, a defensive posture that spoke volumes about his discomfort.

She bent forward, her elbows resting on her knees, a sign of intimacy and engagement in the conversation.

She swayed slightly from side to side, a subconscious display of her nervous energy as she waited for the verdict.

He bounced on his toes, his excitement palpable.

She jumped up and down, a spontaneous display of her joy that couldn’t be contained.
