okay watching The Batman for the first time. I’m 5 minutes in and Bruce Wayne is so fucking dramatic I love it

Just a little thing that the DPxDC community doesn't explore much is the Cass x Danny. By the way they are portrayed, she is quiet and reserved introvert girl, that keeps to herself, and he is an explosive extrovert when you get to know him.

Since I'm a sucker for dynamics that are not used as much as the others, I think this is something fun to explore (maybe I'm just dumb and I'm missing a ton of content).

I can imagine it going like this: he is a regional manager for Nasty Burger as a harmless way to satiate Vlad's obsession with him (Nasty Burger belongs to Vlad in canon, and sometimes, Danny deserves to not have a fucked up life anymore), he meets with Cass and the two hook up (both can't explain, but can use the Lazarus pit = ectoplasm head canon).

These are the reactions of the members of the batfamily:

Barbara: she is protective of both Steph and Cass, and does a background check on Danny, but doesn't find any dirty on him (thanks Tucker), after that, she relax and observes the cute couple from her network;

Bruce and Alfred: both are relieved after Barbara's report, and are happy that Cass is now openly smiling and laughing more, it's not like she was unhappy with them, but seeing her in love is reassuring;

Selina and Tim: both are making fun of Bruce, since Danny has black hair and blue eyes, and is dating a member of the batfamily, they are saying to not make Danny the Steph 2.0;

Damian: he liked Danny because all the animals in the manor loved him at first sight, so he can't be a bad guy, but he starts to respect Danny when he discovered that he helped a gorilla species in the brink of extinction to survive;

Duke: he knows that there is SOMETHING with Danny, but he knows that metas in Gotham have to hide themselves from the wrong assumption that Batman hates metas;

Dick and Jason: they thought of doing a good cop/bad cop routine in order see what are the intentions of this guy with their younger sister, but seeing that he has MORE puns than Dick, MORE dead jokes than Jason, and is MORE SASSIER than Steph, Jason is like "fuck this shit I'm out", and Dick is best buddies with the guy

Steph: she hates his guts, not because his is dating Cass, but because he has the audacity of saying that the Nasty Burger is BETTER than the Batburger, her favorite fast food chain, she can't believe that Cass has fallen in love with the enemy.

Other thing: he can't hide forever his powers, so someday, maybe, they are on a date and a random villain attacks, and not wanting his cute and shy girlfriend to be hurt, Danny beat the shit out of this guy, and Cassandra sees her boyfriend tanking several bullets unharmed, punching people away to ridiculous distances, and maybe FLY a little bit?

Danny is freaked out, because he thinks Batman hates metas, but Cass says that her father knows Batman, and can help clear him.

Now Bruce asks Clark if he is aware of this black hair, blue eyes dude, with some powers really similar to Kryptonians that it is currently dating his daughter (all of the JLD knows that Danny is the Ghost King, but understand why the guy is frightened of Batman, so it is kinda funny when they meet, Constantine can't hold his laughter at the image of a Bruce being the father in law of the powerful monarch of the infinite realms, using ridiculous nobility titles to refer to him)

Headcanon: being Bruce Wayne's younger sister

You and Bruce have always been close with each other

Your parents raised you with a belief that you might be well situated, but the greatest good you own is family

Even though you could've just rebelled against this idea, your instinct was to learn to have the trust in your brother

It worked the same the other way - Bruce willingly learned to take care of you and never complained

He might get tired or even mad sometimes, but those feelings often come as a surprise to him

And he always talks them through with your parents to make sure he's not hurting you

So in the end everything that could ruin your relationship only makes it better

You spend a lot of time together, either playing or reading, quietly or loudly

It always feels good to have your brother by your side

Just his presence can feel comforting

Your dynamic changes quite a bit after your parents die

Bruce quickly grows up and becomes even more protective of you, afraid that something bad might happen to you too

At the same time you tend to drift apart as you try to find your own ways to cope

When Bruce turns to research and wants to know more, you might try and forget the situation that hurts so much

You're too young to understand and you just miss your parents

But you're also too young to be able to do that on your own

Alfred is luckily quick to notice that and plans more activities for you to do together

He does his best to do this in a parental way, even though all three of you know he'll never truly feel

Hoping for this to bring some joy between you, that's one of the reasons he accepts to briefly have Selina in the house

And it's safe to assume she helped you both to relax and have more fun

She would also become your trusted person as you start growing up and she understand some of your struggles in a way Bruce and Alfred never could

Most importantly, she helped you and Bruce rediscover your relationship

You realise how good it is just to be in the same room with your sibling

And how it can be even better when you can engage in some activities together

Or to trust each other with your secrets and doubts

Although you still can go days without talking, you don't let anything make you fall apart

You often turn to Bruce for help or advice and he never fails to provide you with it

Since he cares about you no matter what and he wants you to know that

Villain laughed, daintily throwing their head back to barr their throat. "And here I thought you had no sence of humour" they said.

A muscle clenched in supervillain's jaw. And villain smirked up at them when they noticed.

Smirking up wasn't quite the right word, with the added height from their shoes they were nearly the same height. But they were reclining lazily in their chair, while supervillain sat taut. And they had their head turned precisely so they'd look small.

Talking big talk the way did while looking small meant daring. That was good. Making their power clear would just look like arrogance, and that wouldn't work well with the supervillain, they supposed.

"I mean, even if you weren't interested in the diamonds themselves. They're the pride of most upper class families sitting together in one room. Wouldn't their humiliation itself be prize enough. Without the aggravating amount of money they'd be willing to waste to win them back." Villain grinned liked they thought they had already won. Resting their chin on their clasped fingers, they gestured for a waiter to top up their glass of red wine.

From the look on supervillain's face, it was clearly far from over. They kept their face oblivious.

The waiter was nearly trembling. They went farther. "And even your arrogant self has to know I'm the best person for this job, I can even do it myself. I just need your name to make it all the more grand."

That was not quite true. It wasn't just about a single crime. They needed to shift their image from a simple breaking and entering crook, they needed that fear attached to their name. You need that to make an impact.

They felt the need to hire a PR team.

People assumed herohood worked like fame, their adoring fans pushing for anything they advocated for. But villainhood worked quite similarly, it just cashes in fear in place of adoration, and it also appealed to the authorities quite more directly.

The Supervillain smiled at that, regaining their composure at that. They picked up their napkin from their lap to fold it on the table, "You may be now, but what makes you think that I can't find someone better by the exhibition. Someone less demanding maybe."

Vilain almost snorted. Of course you can't they were about to say before they realised how pathetic it sounded. They were losing supervillain's intrested.

"Maybe you can, but not possibly make them as experienced as me in two months." They shrugged airily.

The supervillain stood near their seat with their hand resting near villains glass. They raised their eyebrows, the picture of you need to impress me.

Don't fumble.

"And demanding is a strong word to use when I'm practically doing all the work, and I've even agreed to settle for less than half the profit. " They said, acting amused when they felt anything but.

They had agreed to half the last estimated price, excluding the bribes supervillain would get. The unfairness of it all bothered them more than the money itself.

They were pulling of the robbery practically all by themselves!!

"And in exchange you're asking me to give the public a very obvious link between us. Not just officers, or heroes or the other Villains. But the public."

What's your favorite DC ship?

Oh dear god this is a difficult question. I have so many, and they’re all for different reasons. Jayroy is the epitome of hurt/comfort and family fluff, timkon has so much great canon material and can honestly be read as a traditional romcom, and I really like the way damijon could develop in the future. I’m actually a fan of Bruce and Selina, and just Selina in general, because her character is pretty amazing and the way she interacts with Bruce and the rest of the batfam is always fun to read. Roy and Kori in Outlaws was done pretty well, and Dick and Kori’s relationship in Titans context is great. Issues where Babs is written well has some great romance between her and Dick. In the YJ universe only, Bart and Jaime is just so cute. And of course you can’t forget Barry and Iris, their relationship is a classic and I love it. 

But If I had to choose a favourite, I’d go with Birdflash, aka Dick Grayson x Wally West. Now, this may just be because Wally is my favourite of the speedsters and Dick’s my favourite of the batfam. (By which I mean he’s my favourite character. He is NOT my favourite Robin, but as a character in general I love him.) But the thing is, Dick and Wally are the epitome of friends to lovers, and that makes their relationship so effortlessly easy. 

Ever since they were kids, Dick and Wally have always been close. Depending on what story arc you’re looking at, Wally was the first person Dick told about his secret identity. Yes, the Titans were all extremely close, and that’s what makes them such an incredible team, but Dick and Wally’s relationship in particular was special. They’re different enough to make their dynamic interesting, but similar enough tie their friendship together. And the fact that their relationship (in fanon, unfortunately) grew organically out of their friendship makes it all the better. 

Because when it comes down to it, Dick and Wally will always be best friends first and whatever else second. They’ve got obligations and promises to each other, and it doesn’t matter if they’re fighting as a couple or having a squabble about League matters or whatever. The two of them have each other’s backs, no matter what. Not out of sense of duty or responsibility, but because they truly care for the other on a fundamental level. But at the same time, they know not to get too wrapped up in each other, because obsession only leads to pain. They get along and they have fun, they laugh and they joke and they keep things light and happy whenever possible, while also loving each other deeply and passionately. When they fight, they cool down and talk about it because they know what bottling up does to people. 

And the most important part is that they know how to live without each other. There are so many couples where one person cannot live without the other, and they’re painfully codependent. And I will admit, there is a certain romance in your fate being so intertwined with another’s that you cannot be separated. In a perfect world, those two will love each other forever. But that sort of relationship is unhealthy and can grow toxic. Dick and Wally, on the other hand can live without each other. They have independent lives, families, friends. They have a life outside of each other, and they can live apart and keep themselves going. They simply want to be together. They don’t need the other to exist, they don’t feel incomplete without the other. They choose to be together because they are both incredible individual people who complement each other rather than complete each other. And that makes their relationship all the more stronger.

In conclusion, I have many many birdflash feels. and I love them.

So @co-superman just had the galaxy brain realization that what the Batfam is really missing is like, an age-appropriate light-hearted friend for his BRUCIE persona, since Clark may be his best friend but is usually only relevant to his Batman side. At least as far as canon goes, I know fics usually accommodate Clark having a greater presence and role in Bruce’s life and impact upon him and his family.....buuuuuuut, that’s probably one of the very things that ALLOWS for Bruce to be so much more well-adjusted in many fics than in canon, where he has no true sounding board.

What Bruce needs is a kind of Jimmy Olsen ‘pal’ for when he’s just Bruce Wayne. Alfred, Leslie, Gordon and Lucius Fox all have tremendous influence in Bruce’s life at various times and in various ways....but they’re all older figures. There’s a deference built into Bruce’s interactions with them, even when he disagrees with them, that doesn’t usually bleed over into how he interacts with people his age and younger.

Which, IMO, results in a marked demarcation between Bruce with older figures in his life, whose opinion he does respect and value but ultimately slots in the same category as that of most grown adults who might acknowledge parental advice but take it for granted that its still understood they’re going to make their own decisions regardless.....

And then on the complete opposite side of the spectrum is how he interacts with those he knows HE is an authority or parental figure to, basically anyone younger or his age.....which in his Bruce Wayne persona, tends to be JUST his kids and proteges, and then in his Batman persona includes heroes and allies of all ages.

But again, as Batman, he has Clark, and Selina and close confidantes he does value and trust as his actual peers....and thus who can exert a....”pull back” influence on him, like, he knows when they’re expressing concern for how he’s coming across with other heroes who don’t know him as well, that like, maybe he needs to take a beat and think about that. Because he does trust their opinion and unlike older figures in his life who he trusts but who also have an inherent or pre-existing loyalty or devotion to him based on simply who he is, who his parents were....people like Clark, who are his age, peers rather than on a different platuea in his mind....Bruce knows that they value him, that their relationship with him is based on who he is as a person, how he interacts with them.....thus, he’s not filtering what they say through the lens of “is this person biased or not because they’ve known me since I was a child” and is just regarding it as “this person is only my friend because we each value each other’s impact on each other’s lives, plain and simple.”

But....he doesn’t have that as Bruce Wayne. Yeah, you could point to some fanfic portrayals of Harvey Dent, I know people have done stuff with that, but what I’m talking about isn’t really a role that can be filled by Harvey unless he’s actually still part of or again part of Gotham society, rather than existing outside of it as a Rogue. 

Someone around Bruce’s own age, that he acknowledges and respects as a peer and confidante based purely on their interpersonal interactions, and can reflect upon and inform upon how he’s coming across to others or how a decision he made is impacting others, including his kids.....THAT could be and do for Bruce Wayne what Superman can really only effectively do or be for Batman, and even then, pretty much just when outside of Gotham.

And think of the impact just on his children, just from such a character even EXISTING.....like, because just consider how Dick is often used or made into a kind of pseudo-peer for Bruce at times in order to essentially FILL this role, in stories where its unavoidable, and someone is absolutely needed to perform this role....and I say pseudo-peer, because just like no matter how much he respects and values them, Bruce’s dynamic with Alfred or Leslie or Gordon or Lucius is never going to be that of a full peer, simply because like....they knew him as a child, he knew THEM as a child, and that awareness doesn’t fully ever go away.....its the same thing on the other side. No matter how much Bruce values and respects Dick’s input and competence, at the end of the day, he’s not his peer, his colleague, he’s his SON, and that’s just an innately different dynamic.....

And even more importantly, its a dynamic that Dick (and any of Bruce’s other kids at any times when they’re forced to step into even a semblance of this role)....that parent/child dynamic should be one that Dick and the others should be ALLOWED to....rely on. To know that it exists IN THAT FORM....and not constantly be wondering if they’re supposed to be reading into their father’s current situation the cues that say, okay, here and now they can’t JUST be his kid, they have to step up and act as his peer, his advisor, engage him on a fully equivalent footing....while always knowing that at the end of the day, its never ACTUALLY going to be an equivalent footing, and no matter how strong their advice, they know there’s never any actual doubt that in the end they’ll revert back to their usual parent/child dynamic, and like....how do you balance that, if you’re in Dick’s position? 

How do you successfully navigate something that inherently HAS no set in stone rules or cartography....and how do you NOT resent that you even have to at all, that you can’t ever just be your father’s son, be the one who knows you can ALWAYS go to HIM for help or advice at any time without worrying that instead you might be expected to step up as a sounding board because what your father needs from you at this moment is more important than what you as his child need from him......but while still only ever being that sounding board until such a time as your father reasserts that that’s over now and he no longer needs you in that role so you’re going back to the way things are, where he knows best because he’s the father and you’re the child and that’s just how that works.

And I’d argue, we also see this reflected in the canon and even just how the canon is REFERENCED....with the constant juggling wherein people refer to Dick as Bruce’s son at sometimes...but then other times he’s his partner, his trusted friend, his confidante, all these things which are roles someone SHOULD have in their life, that Bruce SHOULD have and be able to utilize as a sounding board or call upon for help, and not just when its Batman calling on Superman....but like.....those things aren’t roles that should be filled by a parent’s child, because it necessitates that when the parent NEEDS one of these roles filled, and thus needs their child to step up and interact on their level....for as long as that persists, as often as it happens....that child is effectively asked or even expected to be parentless, for as long as again...the PARENT needs, regardless of what the child needs. When Dick is asked or expected by Bruce or even just the plot to be interacting with Bruce for a time in as close an advisory capacity or right hand as anyone ever does.....for that time, he kinda CAN’T be Bruce’s child at the same time, because the whole point is Bruce right now needs a PEER, not a DEPENDENT.

And its not healthy or fair, no matter how grown a child becomes, to be taken in at a young age by someone who says I will be your guardian now and later on says I will be your parent now, and steps INTO the role that says here I am, someone you are supposed to always be able to rely on and count on and expect to have in your corner......

And then include the implicit caveat that’s “except for in times when I need YOU to be temporarily absent someone to fill that role, because you’ve been briefly and artificially elevated to operating on my level, engaging with me face to face.....at least for as long as I allow it.”

That’s just....a recipe for disaster and a confused and resentful kid embittered because he shouldn’t HAVE to be his dad’s peer, he was supposed to have been taken in by his dad for HIS sake, not so that he could later on eventually be to his dad’s betterment.....like, its great if that happens organically in ways....but this way, it ends up feeling more like....an investment. Like, “character x invested all this time and effort into raising character y, and now its time for that investment to yield fruit and prove worthwhile by being what character x needs and expects them to be at times.”

That’s confusing and unreliable and a mess, and so when that becomes a pattern that repeats, in large part because there’s really no one else BESIDES Dick in Bruce Wayne’s day to day life to fill that role as a PEER.....then of course that’s exactly what we see happen time and time again. For Bruce and Dick’s dynamic to end up tangled up and turned around and confusing and unreliable for both of them....because its not ever allowed to just BE, and CONSISTENTLY be....that of a parent and a child, no matter what age they are currently.

Gotham for the fandom thing

Favorite character: Ed Nygma! *ahem* He is one of my favorite characters since the first lego Batman game as well along with other rogues(expect Jervis), Riddler is one of my most favorite Batman rogues. Forget my simp level on Ed, Robin Lord Taylor's portray as The Penguin/Oswald Cobblepot is the best.

Least Favorite character: Jervis Tetch, i find him a creep. Gotham fans ships him with Jonathan Crane which is very abusive in my opinion. I mean how Gotham fans likes him as a character that he abuses Alice. If i we're a writer about Batman i would give this weirdo(Jervis) a better backstory. Still i hate this Jervis Tetch's portrayal. He is not VALID

5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon): Twiddlebird/Nygmobbledent, Batcat, Banecrow/DorranCrane, Victor Fries x Nora Fries & Ecco x Ivy.

Character I find most attractive: Harvey Dent & Oswald Cobblepot oblivious.

Character I would marry: NONE! Just kidding i will not marry one of these guys.

a random thought: Funny story... I used to hate Nygmobblepot/Riddlebird as a child until i watch this series on Netflix and when i see Penguin & Riddler first meeting and the sequence of their dynamics, that's how i ship them.

An unpopular opinion: My unpopular opinion we're Twiddler & Banecrow should be canon. Thomas Elliot should be come back and soon he will become the REAL HUSH! Jervis is the worst guardian. The Jokers on Gotham are just okay.

most badass character: Selina Kyle & Alfred Pennyworth, duh.

pairing I am not a fan of: Batjokes can traumatized me of how Jerome nearly kills Bruce and Jeremiah manipulates Jim & Lee to discover Bruce's past. Mainly it's Hattercrow, i mean why it existed? It will be worse ship and it can hurt the series. Jonathan & Jervis' dynamics is the thing that i hate this ship. I would put Jervis to jail.

character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): I think The Riddler's and Eduardo Dorrance's early lifes are a big mess up. I mean they should describe better; Bane gets abandoned by his parents and later he leads the military. Edward's parents are abusive towards him. That's not how Ed's early life works. And other that writers screwed up is Mr.Freeze. Victor Fries supposed to be a tragic villain but NOPE! He forgets his wife Nora Fries.

favourite friendship: I love Oz & Victor Zsasz's dynamics. I only wish they're best murder friends.

character I want to adopt or be adopted by: If i we're Alice's daughter, i would kill Mad Hatter in a cold blood.

How do you think Catlad!Jason x Dick would work out? Like, regular JayDick works because there’s so much angst with Jason coming back from the dead and Dick having guilt over not being there more for Jason while he was alive. So, like how would this work without the angst of Robin!Jason dying? Since Catlad!Jason would be Catlad.

I think there’s still a lot of potential there:D 

Dick!Robin was a fun lad and I think that he’d be very interested in making friends with another young vigilante (one who made his entrance by, no less, stealing the wheels off the Batmobile) - even though Jason would insist that he’s no hero he’d secretly love it, because he sees himself as a young Robin Hood in training and being recognised by a ROBIN of all people is a BIG DEAL! :O So, Dick would be all over the CatLad, wanting to be fiends and to show the boy the ropes of the heroing business, teaching him some moves and etc. 

Jason, with his very well-hidden crush on the Robin, would be very tsundere about it, but he’d love it allxD 

And the angst? Well, there’s plenty of angst int he idea that Catlad is a violent kind of a kid!hero, willing to go beyond what Dick would ever allow himself if he feels that it was deserved - beating up rapists and traffickers, those who deal to kids. And he’d leave them broken, not even for the GCPD to find, but just because that’s what he thought they deserved. 

And Dick would be disappointed and angered by that. “We don’t do that!” He’d argue. “We can’t be doing that!” 

And Jason, hurt more by the disappointment than the anger, would fire back “That’s why you and Batman are useless!” He’d be merciless. “Stopped the bank robbery, woohoo, give them a medal! Meanwhile four kids overdosed just tonight and this scum raped his daughter! Where was the dynamic duo then, huh? Oh yeah, chatting with the Police on a rooftop about how much two rich boys are doing for other rich fucks of the city!” 

That would hit hard - because Dick never saw himself as a ‘rich boy’ and detested when others put that label on him. But Jason made it very clear many times that he doesn’t see Dick as a part of his world, that he doesn’t think that Dick is helping the right people and that he can’t respect him because of that. 

Which, obviously isn’t true, they’re just both young and melodramatic. And because Dick has a massive temper, he fires back with something that goes down to “I thought you were better, but you’re just a thug!” which hits Jason hard - he tried his best to be more than what the streets wanted to make him, the sanctimonious prick of a circus boy knows absolute nothing about what he had to go through to get where he was! “So fuck off to your marble tower and your exalted friends and leave Gotham to the people who actually care about her enough to do something more than distract a few mooks with their ass!” 

Which, obviously, ends in a row that leads to a long standing feud between the two - no matter how Selina tried to get Jason to chill, he is staunchly against the Bat and his entourage, and once he’s a grown up, he will take over Gotham, because you can’t trust rich people to do the right thing! 

On the other side, Bruce is quiet on the subject, but Alfred tried to guide Dick to maybe mending the bridges? But that would require him to apologise, because it was him who threw the first stone, but Dick holds a grudge like no one else, so the impasse remains>>

And no one says that Jason can’t die in this AU - and he can still die at the hands of the Joker - beaten to death, just another victim of the maniac’s game with the Batman, meant to bring out Robin, the real main event of the evening. 

Dick falls in despair, it hits him hard, because this time it wasn’t a potential younger brother who died, but a beloved friend. He feels guilty that the last words they shared with Jay were in anger, and starting to question his actual work-ethic - maybe Jason was right? If they did away with the Joker before, then Jay would be alive now. What did they actually do to make Gotham safer for the people on the bottom, really? Jay died because Joker wanted to play his sick game with them - how many people died because of that already?   

This leads to Dick’s disillusionment and conflict with Bruce, who gives no quarter - he does feel guilty for not getting there in time to save the boy, but Jay wasn’t his son, so the guilt isn’t this terrible thing it was int he canon. B mostly feels terrible on the account of Selina, who now he has to stop from butchering the Joker herself. It puts a wedge between them for a long time. 

Jason, of course, returns - Catlad has nine lives and he intends to use them well. Talia may happen and the League may train him, and then he will return to Gotham to get his revenge. And because there wasn’t anything between him and Bruce, he wouldn’t do the whole elaborate setup, he’d gun straight for the Joker - but try to make it theatrical, to let the criminal element know that the Panther is someone to be feared:O   

SO, he ends up as a kind of a villain/anti-her in Gotham, while Dick tries to put his life in order in Bludhaven. And when they meet the sparks fly, because Jason never got over his crush on the circus boy and Dick is all “Oh, kitten! TAT” and oh god, the kitten is not 6 feet tall and build like a truck :O

Gotham 04X03, ‘They Who Hide Behind Masks’

This week, we have an auction, a hare-brained, morally bankrupt scheme, and Bruce Wayne as the least-convincing spoiled brat in the history of everything. Also: whatttttt. (You get three guesses before reading this recap, and the first two don’t count.) This is Gotham.

- We open with a flashback to AD 125 Arabia, a single man on horseback after a terrible battle. He stops over the corpse of a seemingly-dead Alexander Siddig, but we know how this ends… with a dip in incandescent green water. The man tells Ra’s al Ghul that he is his heir, and that now al Ghul must find his, as he is given a very particular-looking knife.

(Will we be told what made the man choose al Ghul? Who knows.)

- Bruce is watching one of Oswald’s shipments be brought into Gotham via boat. He sees a thief scoping out the docks, but despite Alfred’s pleas, goes down to help them.

- It’s Selina. Obviously. But it’s Bruce who gets caught first.

- Now for sunny Miami! Gordon’s really going through with this. Oh, my. He didn’t even call ahead. What an asshole.

- Falcone does not take the extended hand. Gordon, why are you calling him ‘Carmine?’ Do you really think that’s going to endear you to him?

- Falcone’s good at cutting through Gordon’s bullshit, I’ll give him that.

- And he’s dying, too. Can’t say I’m shedding any tears over that.

- Sofia isn’t immediately thrilled about Gordon, which I appreciate. I don’t know if she and Mario were raised together or not, but even if they weren’t, he was still her brother. She actually looked pretty freaked when she first found out who he was.

- Tense scene between Bruce and Alfred as the latter stitches up the latter’s wound. Alfred is really not liking this vigilante business; considering their relationship, I’m not surprised.

- Barbara’s demeanor is… interesting. I’m really hoping they’re going where I think they’re going with it.

- Oswald’s just talking to the Edcicle like it can answer him when Zsasz irritates him. Christ.

- And we have a random woman defrosting Ed. Because of course it couldn’t be anyone we already knew. Look, I know Gotham’s supposed to be a super-chaotic place, but couldn’t Ed getting defrosted be the result of something less… random?

- Oswald’s not happy. Zsasz looks happy at having someone to kill.

- Edward wakes up to a stalker shrine set up by an elementary school classmate, in what I’m pretty sure is a direct parallel of Oswald waking up in Ed’s apartment in S2. We have what I think (considering I’m not an expert) is a pretty realistic depiction of muscle atrophy. And we have the man who has objectified women, now being objectified by a woman.

- Bruce bullshits his way onto Oswald’s ship. Runs into trouble, and Alfred bails him out again, less than pleased.

- Barbara’s trying to buy a knife off of Oswald. Three guesses which knife.

- Now Bruce and Alfred are looking up the knife. They see an illustration of Ra’s al Ghul, and are justifiably pretty freaked, considering this would make the man around two thousand years old. (For the record, I don’t think this is a logic fail on their parts. As best as I can recall, all they know about the Lazarus Pit is that the waters can heal mortal wounds. They don’t necessarily know about its other capabilities.)

- Harvey points out the obvious that bringing Falcone back would ignite a really bloody gang war.

- And now Sofia’s approaching Gordon in a really low-cut dress.

- You always respected Falcone, Gordon? Really? Not the impression I got. (I note he’s much more able to be tactful with Sofia than he was with the surviving loved one of a man he killed last episode.)

- It turns out Falcone was a very hands-off father.

- Sofia and Mario were raised together. Well, the Gordon/Sofia subplot is going to be even ickier than it already was.

- Please tell me she is setting him up for a serious fall. She does sound super wooden when she says Gordon didn’t have a choice about shooting her brother.

- As Zsasz is relating a rumor that Ed’s defrosting was an inside job, I notice that Oswald doesn’t even seem to have noticed Ivy’s absence.

- Myrtle is still… I can’t say I feel sorry for Ed, ‘cause this version of Ed is… not particularly sympathetic. Like at all. I feel a little sorry for him, if only on principle. But even then, she’s not nearly as creepy as he could be with Kristin Kringle. And we get our first signal that Ed didn’t come out of his time on deep freeze mentally unscathed. (I do appreciate the fact that the writers acknowledge that someone isn’t just going to bounce back from something like that.)

- Sunk cost fallacy, Gordon; you really need to figure out what that is.

- This episode is making me miss the ocean even more than usual.

- Gordon does make me a little sad sometimes; this is one of those times.

- Quick to lock lips with the guy who killed your brother, aren’t you, Sofia? Okay, I definitely think she’s looking to set Gordon up for a fall now. Stitch him up nicely, as Alfred would say. Please make it happen, Gotham writers; give us a dangerous, manipulative Sofia Falcone, I beg of you.

- Bruce and Alfred are going over their new plan. Bruce goes to the auction and buys the knife. Alfred is talking about roles, and the one Bruce needs to play tonight—a reckless teenager, a “spoiled brat”, as Bruce puts it. This isn’t gonna go well. I don’t think Bruce could do “brat” convincingly if his life depended on it.

- Bruce is getting a little better at improv. Alfred is pleased.

- (I know it’s on short notice, but couldn’t Bruce have found a proxy buyer.)

- The knife is an embalming knife.

- And Oswald lets Bruce have the knife just ‘cause he knows it’ll piss off Barbara.

- (And yes, Bruce Wayne is the least convincing spoiled brat you could possibly imagine. His default state is “well-meaning sweetheart”, and he clearly has no idea how to pull off “shallow, empty-headed brat.” Probably the only reason anyone buys it is because most of the people in the room haven’t had extended contact with him up until now.)

- And Ed reveals that as far as physical health goes, he’s doing just fine now. Demonstrates it by knocking out the woman who defrosted him. Dude, I know she was a stalker and she wasn’t being particularly nice to you by then, but… Never mind. Roll scene.

- Bruce and Selina confront each other. I like their new dynamic. They’re clearly not happy with each other, but they also still clearly care about each other and they are asking each other questions instead of just assuming they have all the info they need. I think they’re still making a few assumptions, though; Bruce definitely is.

- We have a new character, Detective Harper. I hope she’s a new mainstay.

- Sofia shows up at the precinct. She looks a lot better in a suit than in a dress, I must say. We have it implied that Sofia’s taken full part in Miami mob activities. And she was setting him up, at least a little. I’m happy.

- Myrtle is tracked down, gets offed. Zsasz likes her dress, but that’s not enough to save her. I actually feel kind of sorry for her.

- Edward’s just walking around town in broad daylight. ‘Cause of course.

- Barbara vs. Ra’s al Ghul fight scene. Yessss, they are going where I thought they were going. (Well, not entirely. Babs x Ra’s whattttttt…. Just…… Whatttttt.)

Comics I read: 12/7/17

Godshaper #4: This issue almost explained Bud to us... so close. And poor Ennay! He just wanted to share his music, and then everyone turned on him. Hope he gets out ok!

Batgirl and the Birds of Prey #12: Barbara meets up with Selina, and Helena and Dinah go undercover. Not so glad about Pamela being the villain, but I think it’ll work out good. Looks like she’ll be popping up again in future.

Detective Comics #960: More nice Bruce and Zatanna flashbacks, plus Azrael gets a bit crazy!

Red Hood and the Outlaws #12: Bizzaro noooo! Did not imagine I would love this little team so much when it started. Such a emotional series!

Supergirl #11: End of the team up with Batgirl. Was a nice little arc! I enjoyed their friendship. Hope there’s more in future!

Titans #13: Ok so the drama between this group is a bit ugh since they’re such old friends, but I love this teams dynamics when they fight for each other. Also, that new power revelation for Wally is pretty interesting!

Defenders #3: I loved the narration style in this when all those characters talked about Luke and Diamondback’s history. Why the hell is he so strong though?!

Jean Grey #4: This book has been amazing for team ups, and this one with Thor is no less amazing. Really enjoying this book.

Rocket #3: Ok but this book is SO GREAT. Al Ewing always writes such great stories. This time Rocket has to escape a high security prison. It feels a lot like the GOTG film, but super original. So good. 

Secret Warriors #4: Better than the last issue, so I feel like this book is gonna stay good. This time the warriors have to escape a Hydra helicarrier. Lunella IS the smartest there is. I just hope she made it off ok... 

The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #22: THIS IS THE BEST COMICS EVER PUBLISHED. If only for those lines under each page it would be the best. But the plot is so funny always. This time, Nancy and Doreen (and Tippy Toe of course) win a trip to the Savage Land. You just have to read it, honestly.

X-Men: Blue #7: Secret Empire tie in... not that great. Cool to see some mutants we haven’t in a while, but it’s hydra. Enough said.
