((It was her ex, Robert's, birthday. And as such, the abuse was much worse because he'd find literally any and all excuses to hurt her. Even moreso than normal, really.

So as such, it's a distressing date.))

"hur hur gabe wasn't as abusive as he was in the books" people can all shut up. percy's jaw TREMBLED when ares yelled at him, which had nothing at all to do with his god status - percy backtalks gods just fine. he had trauma response to ares yelling. ares didn't so much as lift a finger. that goes to speak volumes about what percy was experiencing at home

((I'm also gonna add that if in verses where she's with someone, if they'd like to do something she'd do it for them. She doesn't expect anything on that day from anyone and really wouldn't get upset about it.

It is however a traumatic day for her as it was her ex's birthday and a lot of the negative things he did to her would always escalate more than usual.))

I didn't realize your reasons and I didn't know your plans, until I became the same age you were back then and it horrifies me. I wish you had done more so I could prove the world I am right, and I wish you had done nothing to me at all. Isn't it weird how it works?

anyone else have multiple traumatic memories associated specifically with holidays/family vacations? because that is a topic I never see discussed in all the So You Had A Shitty Childhood, Now What? self-help books i've been reading. but for me, it was a significant thing. and the more i think about it the more it seems like this would be an (unfortunately) common experience. would be grateful to hear if this matches other peoples' experiences...
