introjects and their sources
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
introjects are just like any other alter.
i see a lot of people be fake claimed for being introject heavy (having a lot of introjects). we are not introject heavy but i think its important to say that whether or not an alter is an introject has no effect on their validity.
a lot of our introjects are uncomfortable being publicly known due to the stigma.

Introjects have feelings too.
We are not just caricatures or cardboard cutouts of your favorite characters.
We exist to protect the body from harm. Some of us exist to keep track of others in the system. Others like us.
And some of us just exist to exist, and that's okay.
Being an introject isn't fun and games either.
It's worrying about how our psuedomemories connect to the body's own.
It's being confused by a world we don't belong in.
It's no longer feeling like us.
It's having to hide in fear of others perceiving us wrongly just because of our source.

yeah you claim to be normal about introjects but what about introjects who have exomemories different to canon? introjects who are in relationships with other introjects thatd be deemed problematic in canon? source compliant introjects? source divergent introjects? those who refer to source as themself? those who seperate themself from source? those who are transgender in a way thats different to their canon identity? those who have different sexualities than canon? those who are a completely different age than in canon?
are you really normal about introjects?

Here’s some positivity for fictives who feel complicated about their source!
It’s quite common and totally normal for fictives to have complicated, conflicted, or confusing feelings about their source! Most introjects cannot choose our sources, and it’s okay if we don’t know how to feel about them or have difficulties engaging with them for whatever reason. If you’re a fictive who has complicated feelings regarding your source, this post is for you!
🌀 Shoutout to fictives with exotrauma that makes it difficult to enjoy their source!
⭕️ Shoutout to fictives who both love and hate their source at the same time!
🔆 Shoutout to fictives in trauma-formed systems whose source reminds them of their trauma history!
🌀 Shoutout to fictives who are both uncomfortable with being compared to their source, and want to be viewed as their source!
⭕️ Shoutout to fictives who feel like they should separate from their source, but don’t want to die any reason!
🔆 Shoutout to fictives who often go back and forth on how they view their source!
🌀 Shoutout to fictives who love some aspects about their source but dislike others!
⭕️ Shoutout to fictives who have complicated feelings about their source due to being very canon divergent!
🔆 Shoutout to fictives whose ideas about their source would be considered strange, uncommon, or unorthodox by others!
🌀 Shoutout to fictives who wish they could avoid thinking about or interacting with their source entirely due to their complex feelings about it!
⭕️ Shoutout to fictives whose exomemories don’t align with their source, making it difficult for them to understand it!
For any fictive, there is no one right or wrong way to feel about your source. It’s okay and it makes sense to have complicated, complex, confusing, or conflicted thoughts or feelings regarding it! These feelings don’t invalidate you at all as a fictive, introject, or beloved member of your system. You still belong in your system and in the plural community just the way you are!
If you’re a fictive with complicated feelings about your source, please know that we are rooting for you and care about you in all that you do. You should never feel obligated to think or feel a certain way about your source! We hope that you can take it easy for a while and treat yourself and your system with kindness and gentleness in the future. Thank you so much for reading, and have a lovely day!

Hi! This is a blog looking at introjection, projection and introjects as a whole. Welcome!
Tumblr media
To start us off, I want to explain first what introjection actually is! I think a lot of people forget what it means and what it refers to. So, in terms of psychology, introjection (or internalization) is an unconscious process. It's the process of internalising the thoughts or personality traits of others. It can be a normal part of a child's development, like when a child takes on parental values, attitudes, ideology, and such.
Introjection also works as a defence mechanism! They take the ideas, feelings, and/or attitudes of others and make that part of themself. Though it can be healthy, it can also be unhealthy; many may internalise negative or harmful beliefs. Introjection affects people's thoughts, too.
Introjection does not only apply to Dissociative Disorders! It's a process anyone can go through.
I see a lot of people talk about introjection online through the lens of introject alters, some I've seen have made it out as if only alter systems experience introjection; that's not quite right! While yes, introjects of people in our lives can exist, that's not all there is to introjection. It's not exclusive to CDDs.
Introjection is not the same as projection. While introjection is internalising those values, projection is where someone takes those internal beliefs and values and projects them onto external subjects. Projection can be a defense mechanism; used to expel and externalise those uncomfortable inner thoughts and feelings. Introjection is the opposite of projection.
Introjects are alters that hold onto those beliefs and values.
If they didn't introject those aspects, they wouldn't be considered introjects! Whether that be fictional or factual introjects, they need something to introject in order to be considered such. They need to have those compartmentalised aspects.

Note
since you talk about plurality sometimes
I'm starting to think that people are ignoring me even when I directly talk with them because I'm open about being a fictive
it's possible, people are very rude about this kind of thing. i have fictives in my system as well. they don't divulge their names often for that reason unless their names are very generic. introjection is a very normal part of plurality. even people who aren't plural tend to adopt traits from characters in fiction they relate a lot to.
books about DID like When Rabbit Howls (be careful looking this one up- there are graphic depictions of the trauma they went through) show that introjects from both fiction and the real world are very common. sometimes, your brain creates a person from scratch, other times it allows someone else to move in. it really just does happen. it doesn't mean someone should judge you or pretend you don't exist when discussing plurality
people look for any excuse to try to police other's identities. i hope folks treat you with respect in the future
