Hq boys and the little things they do in their relationship pt.2

Sugawara would remember small details about you. And when I say small, I mean even the tiniest ones! This man doesn't forget anything when it comes to you. He knows your go-to-coffee order. How much spice you want in your food. He remembers every achievement you told him about.That one time you won a debate in 8th grade? Or the one time you won a race? He remembers everything. One day you were wearing your shoes and he goes, "You're not gonna put the left one first?", seeing you confused he clarifies, "You always put on your left shoe first." He holds your hands whenever he sees you playing with your ring or fidgeting your fingers because he knows you're anxious.

Tsukishima makes playlists for you. It's probably something dumb named like "Eww love songs" but will have the most soft comforting love songs. He will share the playlist with you but will never admit that those songs remind him of you because that's so lame right? Also shares his headphones with you and only you because he doesn't like sharing. Look I also kind of think he listens to Taylor Swift but will rather die than admit it but when you play a song by her you can see him lip sync the lyrics. When you send him a playlist of the songs that reminds you of him, he teases you but does he play that playlist on repeat? Yes, especially if he misses you. Kei would also make a playlist where you can add your favourite songs along with his.

Kenma is weirdly attentive towards you. 'Weirdly' because he will play a game and it might seem like his whole focus is on the game but he hears everything you say. You would be ranting about your day while he's on his console saying, "Why did you stop? Tell me what that friend of yours said next." He would get off the console after a few minutes of course but you're surprised that he actually attentive and remembers what you told him. "How do you do that?", you finally asked him one day. " Do what?", his eyes were fixed on the screen. "Play the game and yet hear everything I say?", he just shrugs and says,   "Kuro should get credit for that. When we were young, he talked about volleyball and I just played my game but I had to pay attention to him or he would get annoying."

Bokuto lets you put makeup on his face. First he didn't agree to the idea, but you somehow convinced him and now he asks you sometimes to do it. You put fake eyelashes on him and he was shocked at how good he looks with those. He also likes when you paint his nails. He always picks black nails but sometimes he goes for colourful ones. He would even let you style him for a date. His own fashion sense is….. well not good. So you're his personal stylist and he doesn't mind if you put a little makeup on when he goes out because it makes his face look better. He would even show off his nails to his friends (especially Aakashi and Kuroo) and tell them how much you love him. He would be so proud that he was dressed by his s/o. Most of his fans online loved and appreciated this while others criticised him as it was not manly but he didn't care.

so, let's talk about the chess game a little more thoroughly

in the chess game (from falsettos, idk if that's apparently clear, "a chess game" could literally be anything lol) there's a pattern of impatience that follows the two main characters.

Marvin's impatience is fully one-sided, you can see as Whizzer begins the game, he's insistent for him to get his turn over with, even going so far as to (quite condescendingly) ask if Whizzer wants his help. But then the moment it's his turn, he takes his time despite Whizzer having rushed his first move.

I think this might stem from his constant need to "help", or rather, control every situation. He thinks it's always his job to be the leader of every circumstance, as the stereotypical man.

It definitely comes from a childhood of commanding others around and not having a heavy amount of discipline for his actions.

Otherwise, Marvin taking time to calculate his move shows that he's careful with his own placement in life. A life of tiptoing around himself and never actually accepting the full extent of his personality, or sexuality has made him incredibly courteous of where he stands. Maybe it even came from his relationship with Trina, how not being careful led him to being forced into an arranged marriage.

Meanwhile, (and I know I've gone through this bit before in other posts but yes, thanks, I need more appreciation on William Finn not just victimizing Whizzer. Like, he's not that great either guys. We love him, but he isn't perfect.) Whizzer uses the game as a strategy to get Marvin on his side.

Although instead of healthily sorting through his MASS amount of issues, Whizzer pretty much just ends up manipulating him into throwing the game. It's interesting because Whizzer has an opportunity to discuss all of the problems they have with Marvin.

They're in a place in their relationship where he can clearly just throw anything out there, but then he strikes back with anger instead of trying to actually figure out the main issues and help them both through it, effectively shutting off Marvin's ability to actually listen to anything he has to say.

The chess game was actually staged so perfectly, because you can clearly see all of the toxicity in one contained place during that song. There's obviously snippets in others, Marvin's inability to change and Whizzer's insistence not to change because changing would mean they would have to actually talk about their feelings toward each other.

anyways, these are just my thoughts on this :) none of its fully canon, I was just watching through clips of the proshot and realized some interesting things

first things first riko needed to be brutally beaten to death, a shot was too quick

renee talked like a fortune cookie and it was pissing me off

i wish we got more of Wymack and Jean, it was very nice of him to get on the plane with Jean

jean immediately getting annoyed with basic life is really funny

jean is also really sassy and hilarious

also something weird happened in jeremeys house

my personally theory is that he had a sibling who died and his family thinks its his fault

like maybe an accident or maybe the sibling overheard something that they weren't supposed to and his sibling had to die as a result

whatever happened the butler knows about it and is trying to protect him

and whatever happened had to be bad because the act of dying his hair had his family ban him from the dinner table

neil believing his relationship with andrew as a strength his really good for his character, considering his mom was so keen on him not forming any connections

the fact that jean actually considered reaching out to his sister, only for him to learn that she was dead breaks me every time

and neil using her to force him into a belief that he doesn't deserve to belong to anyone but himself was a necessary cruelty.

i also like that Jeremey was the one who telling him about Rikos death was good

jean has no agency in the entire 1st act of the book, he is taken from the nest and basically held captive, then he is forced to go to the sunshine court, which he doesn't like but has to

the foxes all hide info from jean for his own good

and jeremey being the one to tell him is nice because jeremey is his first taste of freedom

jean talking about his abuse in such a casual manner is horrifying bc he thinks its so normal and its horrifying

" i didn't ask" broke me in so many ways because Jean doesn't particularly trust jeremey at the time, nor did it slip out while he was angry, he just said it so casually like it was normal

At first i felt bad for Lucas, but not so much anymore.

he was a sympathetic character who was trying to straddle a thin line of having faith in his captain and who he belives is a violent stranger and his brother who is not the same boy he know

but bringing Greyson to jean was soo fucking stupid it pisses me off

and the fact that jean wasn't even really fighting back, just trying to protect himself is upsetting

also the imagery of him punching the keypad over and over again just trying to get out is gutting

jean isn't a dog who bites, he's a dog who puts his foot to the fire because he believes that he is supposed to do

the water scene was sad as well because he was trying so hard to behave but physically could not

also Jeremey and really most people on the team meet his violence with unflinching kindness is really sweet

i also appreciate how jeremey doesn't force jean to talk about his trauma or even takes the notes from him, jean has had little to no control in his life since he was 15 and forcing him to talk about it when he wasn't ready would have made it worse

and jean asking jeremey to pretend was sweet and what was even sweeter when he did

jean learning to cook is nice as well because he needs life skills

theory for book 2: jeremey buys jean his freedom and jean becomes an exy coach ( more of a pipe dream i guess)

i also think Greyson will kill lucas

jeremeys saving grace being the thought of his sister deserving better is horrifying

i wish we got more of his relationship with Zane

neil is a real one because Jean compared Greyson to drake once, and Neil took care of it for him

jean being afraid of sleeping alone is so sad because he's basically been trained to sleep next to someone

and the fact that he has nighmares, but they are hardly mentioned, and jeremey is the one to bring it up is so sad

also kevin should have tried harder to reach out to jean

jean pushed away the foxes because he knew they would eventually leave him too

jean being steadfast in the idea that if he plays a good game he will have momentary peace is heartbreaking

jean holding onto his talent despite people thinking he slept his way to the top is also upsetting

i hope we get a zane and jean reunion bc i think they truly cared for each other

maybe kevin sends jean a postcard and a magnet and they can reconnect

also him realizing his very limited possesions have been destroyed made me almost cry

and the magnet scene with jeremey is very sad, but him realizing the magnets are broken make him realize that he is

kevin and jean still both being afraid of riko is telling bc riko is dead

[A/N: I don't speak Spanish, so the conjugation was based off French. Forgive (and correct) any errors.]

Chris isn't one to brag, but he has a lot of friends. Like, a lot.

Not all of his friends are kids like him (some of them are old like his dad and Buck), but he's still kinda popular at school. He's not the most popular kid, though.

That would be Jesse.

Everyone think Jesse's, like, super awesome — 'cause he is. He always has the newest game for his Switch, he's the fastest kid in their grade, and he was the only one in their class to get all three ice cream scoops and toppings at the multiplication tables party. He's basically the coolest kid Chris knows.

And he invited Chris to his house to play.

To say that this was an honor would be an understatement. Dad and Buck are always telling him that popularity doesn't matter, and it's your "character" that's important. Chris thinks that's all fine — and true (because Dad and Buck know everything, so if they say something doesn't matter, then it doesn't) — but it doesn't change the fact that Jesse is the most popular kid at school. And he wants to be Chris' friend.

Dad has one of his super, really long shifts that weekend — something about covers (?) — so Buck agreed to stay over Friday night and drop Chris off at Jesse's in the morning. The drive over takes a lot longer than Chris would like, but it's not so bad because it means he and Buck can listen to an entire episode of a podcast about pollinators, though Buck says he doesn't care if wasps have a job to do — he's making Dad kill every one that gets in the house.

"Have you seen a wasp, Chris?!" he asks incredulously when Chris can't help but laugh at his obvious fear. "They're huge! One bite could kill me!"

Chris tilts his head back and laughs, clasping his hands together. For such a big man, Buck can be so silly sometimes.

"Oh?" Buck narrows his eyes in the rearview mirror. "You think this is funny, do you? Laughing at my pain, huh?"

Chris covers his mouth his hands, trying to stifle his giggles, but he's not very successful. "No."

"That's fine. This just means I can use you as a shield next time we have one at the house 'cause you're obviously not afraid of them."

This just makes Chris laugh harder. "No!" he cries through giggles. "I'm the kid; you have to protect me from wasps."

"Nuh uh. I'm a scaredy cat, remember? You have to hug me when we watch E.T., and now you get wasp body guard duty 'cause you're so much braver than I."

"E.T.'s not even scary!"

"Um, yes it is? You've seen what he looks like, right? Scary."

They pull up to Jesse's house a few moments later, and Jesse opens the front door before they even get out of the car.

"C'mon," he says, waving his hand for them to hurry up. "I have something I want to show you!"

"Jesse! Manners." A short round woman steps up behind him who Chris assumes is Jesse's mom.

Buck sticks a hand out to the woman when they get to the door. "Hi, I'm Buck. It's nice to meet you. Thanks so much for having Christopher over."

"Beth," Jesse's mom says, shaking Buck's hand. "And it's no worries; Jesse's been looking forward to this all week. We're happy to have him."

Buck opens his mouth, and Chris knows it's going to be grown up stuff like Chris' allergies and pick up time, so he tugs on Buck's shirt to get his attention.

"Can we go play now?" He pouts his lip in a way knows will make Buck forget about correcting him for being "rude."

"Yeah, yeah," Buck says with a sigh and runs a hand through Chris' hair. "Gimme a kiss, and I'll see you later, buddy."

Chris tilts his head to receive his forehead kiss goodbye. "Bye, Buck, love you. Please make tacos for dinner."

Buck's breath puffs against his face when he laughs before straightening back up. "Yes, sir. Tacos it is. Now go play — and be good. Love you."

Chris offers him a small wave before following Jesse inside. He can still hear Buck and Mrs. Jesse's Mom talking when the door closes, though he ignores it in favor of taking in the size of Jesse's house. It looked big on the outside, but the inside is even bigger. Hopefully Jesse will be down to watch a movie on the huge TV he spots mounted on the far wall.

"Why do you call your dad by his name?" Jesse asks as they walk through the living room to the backyard.

"Buck? Oh, that's because–" Chris cuts himself off, frowning. Why does he call Buck by his name? "I dunno."

He guesses it's because he can't call Buck "dad," 'cause Dad is Dad. (Sometimes Daddy, but not so much anymore 'cause Chris is a big boy, and only babies call their dad "daddy." Well, big boys also call their dad "daddy" after nightmares or when they're sad and want hugs, but those are special occasions and don't count.) Buck is, well, Buck.

But Buck is also like his other dad, isn't he? So shouldn't he call him something different? Before, when Buck was just his best friend, calling him his name was OK, but things are different now. They've been through a lot together, and Buck is more than just his best friend — plus he makes food better than anyone Chris knows. Maybe not Abuela, but close. So "Buck" isn't good enough, anymore.

He's not able to think about it much longer because Jesse shrugs his shoulders — he doesn't care enough about the question to be bothered by Chris' non-answer — and asks if Chris wants to see the dead snake he found behind his mom's rose bush the other day. Chris, never having seen a dead thing before, readily agrees.

Jesse's house is a lot of fun. They play outside for a while, looking for cool bugs, though Jesse's mom says they're not allowed to bring them inside. She eventually calls them in for lunch, which is sandwiches and mac'n'cheese. It's fine. Not as good as Buck's, though, and Chris wonders briefly what the difference could be — does Buck put extra love in Chris' sandwiches? — before Jesse offers to show him his Switch.

Jesse has a bunch of cool toys and gadgets — like, all of the ones Chris has seen on TV during commercials — and he's a really good sharer, so Chris gets to try them all. It's pretty fun, but he's tired by the time Buck comes to pick him up.

On the drive home, Buck puts on another podcast — this one about what Christopher Columbus was really like — and they listen to it quietly. Chris watches Buck from the back seat and thinks about Jesse's question.

Is it bad to call Buck his name?

He remembers one time when he tried calling Dad his name 'cause a girl on TV called her dad his name, and it made Dad, like, really sad. Not sad like he cried, but Chris could tell that it hurt his feelings. He'd spent the night in Dad's bed after that to cuddle, and he never tried to do it again.

Does it make Buck sad that Chris calls him his name?

"Whatcha thinkin' about back there, bud?" Buck asks, eyebrows furrowed in the rearview, giving himself what Chris likes to call his Wi-Fi lines.

Chris thinks about telling Buck about Jesse's question but decides not to. It's good to think about things before making a decision, and Chris doesn't feel like he's thinked enough.

"Can I tell you later?"

Buck nods his head. "All right, you let me know when you're ready to talk. Just remember that I love you, and there's nothing you can't tell me or Dad, OK?"

"I know; I love you, too. I'm still thinkin', though."

"And that's OK, too."

When they get home, Chris goes to his room to build his legos, while Buck continues dinner prep. Tia Pepa gave Buck a tortilladora as a surprise gift, so now Buck refuses to have tortillas that aren't made by hand in the house. Dad thinks Buck is being silly, but Chris doesn't mind it. It's fun to help Buck press the tortillas, even if it takes a while to make them all, and they taste the best in the whole world (except for Abuela's).

In his room, he doesn't actually build legos. Instead, he rips a piece of paper out of his school notebook and sits down on his bed, pencil against his chin. His teacher at school said sometimes it's better to draw out thoughts to help organize them, just like how he has to count sticks sometimes when he's doing math. Maybe this will help with the "Buck" question.

At the top of the page, he writes "dad" in big letters and underlines it, then he puts a bullet point underneath. Biting his lip, he hesitates for a second before writing "strong" in his neatest handwriting. Another bullet point.

"Fire fiter."

"hansum."

He taps his pencil on the page. What else?

"Loves Chris and Buck."

"Loves Abwella."

"Loves Tia Pepa."

"Funny."

"Likes to wach fiteing"

"Hates Hildy."

"Best at pushing the swings."

Looking over his list, he counts how many bullet points he has under his breath. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10. Ten things about Dad that make him a dad.

He flips the page over and writes "Buck" in big letters and underlines it. He puts down 10 bullet points down the page and doesn't wait to write down the first several points.

"Strong."

"Fire fiter"

"hansum."

"Loves Chris and Dad."

"Loves Abwella."

"Loves Tia Pepa."

Those are all the same, but Dad and Buck can't have the same lists because Dad is Dad and Buck is, well. That's the question, isn't it?

Chris stares at the page, thinking hard. What are things that make Buck like his dad, but not his Dad?

His pencil hovers above the page for a second before he nods and writes his answer down.

"Cries alot."

But he doesn't cry a lot because he's sad, though, right? It's a different type of crying, the kind that makes Dad's eyes crinkle in a smile, even though his mouth doesn't move.

He adds another point.

"Silly."

Buck also likes to read books with Chris, and not all the books are adventure books. Sometimes they're books with the author's purpose to inform (just like he learned about in school), and Buck also puts on learning podcasts in the car. That has to mean something.

He writes "smart."

OK, just one more. What should he write, though? It's kinda funny to think that he knows Bucks so well, just like Buck knows him, but he can't think of all the things he knows when he wants to. Dad says he and Buck are starting to forget things 'cause they're old. Maybe Chris is getting old, too.

He takes a deep breath through his nose and hums when he can smell dinner cooking. Buck is so good at cooking. He wishes Buck could move in so that they could always eat Buck's food.

Oh! That's a good point.

"Good cooker."

There, that's 10 things that make Buck his dad.

What now?

Before he can continue think-writing, Buck calls him for dinner.

"Wash your hands, buddy," Buck says when he enters the kitchen.

Chris shakes a finger at him. "En español, por favor."

"Ah," Buck says, shaking his head and smiling, "sí, sí. Lava tú manos, mijo."

A few months ago, Abuela had made an offhand comment that Chris' Spanish wasn't very good anymore, and Dad had kinda freaked out, just a little. From what Chris understands, he feels like he's done a bad job teaching Chris because they usually only speak English at the house, though Chris doesn't feel like this is all Dad's fault. Mom hadn't even known Spanish, and Grandma and Abuelo speak English with him, too.

But now Abuela and Tia Pepa only speak Spanish when he's with them, and Dad made it a rule that they speak only Spanish during meals. As a result, Buck is learning Spanish, too. (Though, apparently, he already knew some because he used to live in Peru, but he had a funny accent that's only now getting better. It used to make Tia Pepa laugh to hear him speak.)

Just like Chris knew it would be, dinner is delicious. He's unable to fully enjoy it, though, because he's still thinking about dad-Buck. What's he supposed to call him?

Buck must notice that he's distracted because, unlike usual, he lets Chris get away with answering only a few questions about his play date. The rest of the meal is spent in comfortable silence.

"Ayúdame a lavar los platos," Buck says, collecting their plates. "Luego, lavate y acuéstate."

"Will you read me a story?" Chris asks and shrugs at the look Buck gives him. What? Dinner's over.

He spends his time in the bath thinking some more. What are other names to call a dad? Chris is only aware of two, and it would be too confusing to have to have Dad and Daddy when sometimes Dad is Daddy, too. What else is there?

It's not until halfway through his bedtime story — a chapter book about a porcelain rabbit named Edward — that it hits him. Of course! It's so obvious. How could he have not thought of it earlier?

Buck puts the book aside, marking their page with a bookmark Chris got from the Scholastic Book Fair a month ago, and tucks the covers under Chris' body, pressing a firm kiss into his forehead.

"Buck?" Chris asks before Buck pulls away completely.

"Yeah, buddy?"

"I'm ready to talk about what I was thinking about."

"Oh," Buck says, resettling on the edge of Chris' bed. "OK. What's up?"

"Well," Chris starts but then pauses, biting his lip. He sends Buck an unsure look. What if Buck doesn't want him to call him anything but his name? What if he gets mad? Maybe this wasn't such a good idea, after all.

Buck runs a soothing hand through his hair, though, and it makes him relax. "Whatever you have to say, buddy, I promise you it's gonna be all right. If it's a problem, I'll do everything I can to help fix it, OK?"

Nodding his head, Chris releases a breath. This is Buck. Buck loves him, and he loves Buck, and it's going to OK, just like Buck promised.

He decides to say it all at once:

"Jesse asked me why I don't call you 'dad,' and I didn't know what to tell him 'cause you're my dad, but Dad's Dad. A-and I remembered that it made Dad sad when I called him his name, and I don't want you to be sad that I call you 'Buck,' but I wasn't sure what I should call you, but I think I know now."

Buck had a really strange look on his face. His face was red and his eyes were really wide (so wide, Chris was a little afraid they might fall out) and wet, like Buck was going to cry.

Oh, no.

Was Buck upset? Is he going to cry because of what Chris said? Oh, no.

Before he could get too nervous, though, Buck bent down and gave him a huge, squeezing hug, pressing kisses on his face and hair. Chris giggled when it tickled.

"You can call me whatever you want, buddy," Buck said, leaning back but not releasing Chris. "I love you like you're my own son, and that won't change, even if you want to keep calling me 'Buck.'"

"I don't want someone else to ask me, though. I don't like it that they might think you're not my dad."

"OK, what would you like to call me?"

"Well, Dad's 'dad,' and I don't know any other words in English to call you, so I thought, maybe, I could call you 'papí,' 'cause me and Dad are hispanish."

"Hispanic," Buck corrects gently, smiling at him. "And I think that sounds perfect. Thank you, Christopher. I don't think you know how much this means to me."

"I love you, Papí."

"I love you, too."

The next morning when Chris comes down for breakfast, Dad's already at the table, drinking a cup of coffee, while Papí scrambles eggs on the stove.

"Dad!" he says, rushing over to give his dad a hug.

Dad stands and picks him up under his arms, swinging him around before squeezing him in a hug.

"Hey, mijo," he says with a big smile. "Papí was just telling me about you two's conversation last night."

Chris picks his head up from where it's resting on Dad's shoulder and sends him a look. "Is that OK? You're still Dad, but Papí's also my dad and I thought–"

"Hey," Dad says gently, running a hand up and down his back, "it's all good. You're right; Papí is like your other dad, and I know he loves you just as much as I do, and that's a whole, whole lot. We're family, no matter what, and it's good to use words that fit that."

"Yeah," Chris agrees, snuggling back into his dad's arms. "We are family."

So, yeah, Chris had a lot of friends, and some of them were old. But he also had two dads, and that was even cooler than any of Jesse's toys.

'Obey Me!' character hobby mechanic

This is my second time writing this because I lost the first draft even though I saved multiple times.

Anyways, this is (Maybe) part 2 of stealing features from other games and incorporating it into the mechanics of 'Obey Me!' While writing the shops for each character, my mind wandered and I had a thought, what if there were hobbies like in 'Blush Blush'. Leveling up these hobbies would give rewards such as intimacy multiplier, icons, bonuses, and cards.

Common- hobbies that almost every character has.

Uncommon- Hobbies that 5 or more characters have

Rare- Hobbies that 2, 3 or 4 characters have

What is very interesting about the difference in Agnes Sands's and Murderfreak's in-game builds is that Agnes is high-intelligence with pretty poor direct martial skills and Murderfreak is low intelligence with almost exclusively high direct martial skills, but they both have absolutely terrible social skills (Charisma generally and Speech particularly, and in Murderfreak's case, also Barter). And so the result is that Agnes gets pretty good at a lot of things whereas Murderfreak gets exceptionally good at one specific thing (murdering, but also to the freak's credit, Survival crafting), but neither of them are good at settling anything diplomatically. It makes for a very dynamic dichotomy between the two of them as characters that I am playing as in the video game:

Agnes is significantly outmatched in most direct gunfights to where even just one guy with the drop on her is a disaster, and when outright aversion ("I am not fucking doing that") isn't an option, she has to sneak and skulk around for her life, being very careful about starting any kind of fights at all, praying that she doesn't piss any faction off enough to get hit squads sent after her, and relying primarily on lockpick, pickpocket, craftiness, exploration, terminal hacking, or big chunks of her personal finances to get out of trouble. As a result of resource scarcity, Agnes has to plan every excursion out of major settlements very carefully, and keep exceptional track of her food and water, and even has to straight up steal from people just to survive. And she has to do this very carefully, because getting caught stealing and attacked, or shunned by a community, is a great way to make things even fucking harder. However, since Agnes isn't much of a fighter, weapons barely take up any space in her inventory, so she can carry a lot of food, water, and medicine at least.

Murderfreak, meanwhile, can only thrive in direct combat engagements. Sneaking is just a means to an end, a matter of optimal positioning before combat begins. Murderfreak thinks of hit squads as random supply drops and food delivery. Murderfreak's primary method of forced entry is breaking through doors and containers with whatever melee weapons her most recent victims were carrying. Murderfreak does not "make" things, Murderfreak is a exclusively a destroyer. Murderfreak does not "hack" terminals but can get them open sometimes in four random guesses if the luck's there. Murderfreak does not carry money because Murderfreak simply doesn't need it. Murderfreak gets most of their food and healing from being a cannibal, but with all the weaponry in her inventory, they can only carry so much water, and it runs out fast.

And I love this. RPG gameplay tends to be split into roughly three distinct pillars of "Combat," "Stealth (or Exploration)," and "Speech," and the way that both Agnes and Murderfreak are complete ass at that last pillar both heightens their specializations into each of the first two pillars, and exaggerates the friction that manifests when they're forced to interface with the other ones. Neither of them have a "get out of jail free" card, ever. They handle the same situation in completely different ways by necessity, but it's a constant loop of emergent gameplay for the both of them: the stakes are constantly very high, I am constantly confronting obstacles that I am simply Not Built For, and the only way around those obstacles is either sheer ingenuity (strategy, attentive preparation, and resource management), or a mixture of good luck and brute force. Agnes is roleplay as a cunning but frail prey animal and Murderfreak is roleplay as a big dumb apex predator that's just barreling through the Mojave in a single-minded quest for more food. What I don't like as much about "Speech" (in FNV) is that it makes all of my most important gameplay decisions happen in dialogue menus, as opposed to in the moment, in the action, in my own inventory, or in the environment.

Steph has the most fun teaming with Jason since that means the brick house can take on most fodder no problem so the only real problem are big bads and they have craziest prank wars

Duke is weird since dc wants nothing with him at all. Though I think he has the most potential character growth in dc comics along side Cass and Jason of course if dc gave a shit about any of them dukes powers are so intriguing and dc does nothing with him sorry mini tangent but him Jason would be bound over being protectors of the daylight and crime ally respectfully

Babs is a weird character in general when it comes to Jason but I feel like though in this au she had the hardest time accepting Jason was red hood because while Bruce was in thick of it so he had to face it more directly and dick was just glad he could finally make with up Jason. Babs was watching from sidelines and the difference between kid Jason and adult Jason can give you whiplash but that sweet little boy is now bigger than a brick house a kills people so yeah although she helps Jason the most when she comes to accept that their the same Jason

Damian respect for Jason is a lot since he easily one scariest fighters on earth all though you could argue certain people are better and more skilled fighters but Jason used his powerful build with all skills he's learned over the years let's Damian a certain respect for him

nene's story is actually the one i have the least about, to be perfectly honest. i have a plot for both emu and tsukasa's stories, but haven't quite figured out one for nene. honestly, i think nene's the type of aroace to not really... care about it that much. she'd never cared about love or romance to begin with, so when she realized it was because she was aroace, it was mostly like "hm. cool. im gonna go play animal crossing now".

as for finding out... i think it would have happened in middle school, back when she was Online Gamer Nene TM full time. with how much she loves games and storytelling, it really only makes sense she'd want to engage with fandom content like fics. however, just... seeing the way people sexualize her favorite characters, or only write/draw shipping content... she didn't care for it. she didn't want to engage with that. not that there was anything wrong with it! people can do whatever they want with fictional game characters. she just. didnt care about it herself. which led to her feeling even more isolated even within her favorite hobbies. i think this would sort of lead her to playing a variety of games so she doesn't have to worry about getting absorbed in fandoms she doesn't care to be a part of. she still checks, every once in a while. for games that she really likes. i think its through this that she eventually stumbles across a popular aroace headcannon, goes "what", googles it, and is like "wow. thats me. sick". and then moves on

but like. even when she's moved on. it's still really nice to know, yknow? it explains why she felt like the odd one out not wanting to ship stuff, or even care to entertain it. there's people out there just like her. it makes her less anxious, a little more sure of herself.

in casual life, i think nene would have been the type for adults to go "oooh, you have a crush on him, don't you? look at you, all red and shy just thinking about him" when shes simply Just Like That. it was really annoying. she knew she didn't like them like that and that was that. but shes too scared to say that so she just took it. definitely didn't help the "nene needs to learn how to make friends" department. honestly, her only relief from it was with rui- both her parents and the kamishiro parents recognized that the two really did care about each other, but it wasn't like that. also no way in hell they're ruining the one friendship their kids have.

later with emu, i don't think there was any point where people even considered a romance, at least not at first glance. it wasn't like people at school even knew about emu (minus when she snuck in, but why would this hyperactive pink thing be looking for that shy second year?). and people walking the streets didn't really assume they liked each other like that since they were two girls. nene's mom was a little curious if they were dating since emu comes over so often and is so physically affectionate, but she never really pressed. she was mostly just happy nene has friends over that aren't just rui. (also, emu's aroace too, so nothing in her demeanor even made nene consider it could have been romantic. shes just Emu.)

for tsukasa, it's a similar thing. by the time people have realized the two are friends, nene's confident in herself and her feelings enough to shut down the people who would even dare assume she likes a buffoon like that star in that way. there's those people that go "oh but you're mean to him and girls are mean to boys when they have a crush on them" but she's tough enough to go "ew" and move on. (she did complain about it a little to rui on a walk home once. if he ended up in her classroom the next day to "grab her for lunch" and weaponize his dangerous reputation to intimidate them when she wasn't looking, it was sheer coincidence.)

also, i think out of the four, nene falls most on the loveless scale. tsukasa, emu, and rui are all beings made of love despite the fact they don't fall in it. nene's a bit different. she cares about her friends, and she's super good at making them (despite what she thinks), but she doesn't really... love them. not in the ways people usually want to describe love. she would kill a man for them in a heartbeat, don't get me wrong. she just experiences those sorts of feelings differently. it's care, and determination, and hope, and happiness, but not... love. not completely.

the AI discourse drives me crazy. a week ago one of the games i play released an update that had a single use of AI in it, an AI voice for an AI character, which was produced through explicit consent of the voice actors involved who are receiving royalties for allowing their voices to be used for this.

i finished persona 4 golden !!!

MAJOR SPOILERS FOR PERSONA 4 GOLDEN AHEAD

It’s lowkey insane that they made the final villain a gas station employee, but it was super cool. I really love the story, almost as much as P5R, although the gameplay was definitely worse for me.

Obviously there are differences because of the release dates, but there were a lot of quality of life issues and inconsistencies. The last 5 dungeons or so felt comically easy, none of them took me more than 2 hours, especially with Marie and Izanami’s dungeons which took me less than an hour each, even with exploring every floor to the max.

The lack of Safe Rooms really hurts the level design here. You basically have to do every palace in one session (at least I did because I don’t like Goho-M’s). Being able to have save points before different sections in each P5 Palace was a stroke of genius, and returning to P4 where every floor is basically identical is just boring. I like how each floor is randomly generated, but it also really takes away from the individuality of each dungeon. Pretty much every dungeon has the same random layout, the only differences are the visuals and occasional conditions like with Adachi not allowing you to fight shadows in one of his floors. Compared to P5, the lack of puzzles and insight into the characters really hurts. In P5, the design of each palace gave you insight into its rulers psyche. In P4, you really only get the occasional confrontation with the character and some dialogue at the start of each floor.

There were also WAY too many chances to mess up your ending. There isn’t anything really wrong with having a lot of endings, but having so many points where you can accidentally get a bad ending because you picked an option that wasn’t obviously wrong was ridiculous. I had heard there were a lot of chances to get a bad ending if you aren’t careful, so I used a spoiler free guide. Having to pick like 7 of the right answers in a row to get a good ending is insane.

If I wasn’t spoiled on Adachi before playing, I never would have guessed it. That is good for the story, but having to deduce it yourself is a bit too much to ask of the player. I think P5 did good with prompting you to save your game before game changing events happen. A mix of that and confirming with the player when they are going off-course from the true ending makes the game relatively simple to play through with no guide. with P4, you basically have to look up a guide for the true ending. Having to say “no” when prompted to leave Inaba to get the true ending is insane, if I didn’t know beforehand I would have messed up my entire playthrough. It makes no sense unless you know the story beforehand, especially when no other Persona game asks you to do something like that.

The game is also shockingly bigoted, which goes entirely against the themes of the Persona series and the game itself. Ironically, in a game about pursuing the truth, the made Naoto deny his truth of being trans. They wrote such good queer characters and then came to entirely the wrong conclusion and ruined it all. I still think if you can look past the homophobia and transphobia, the game has phenomenal writing, but it gets really uncomfortable at times.

The nostalgic feeling Inaba gives off and the PS2 graphics really help the vibe of this game. It feels so much warmer than P5, and I am ALWAYS a sucker for a murder mystery. The fog is such a good visual element to the game, and I have a strange obsession with electrical poles, so having those be a frequent set piece is awesome.

The characters are so wonderful, I really wish I had more time to max out all of the social links here, but I think I would have had to skip out on helping Nanako with her homework and I would never do that to her. Nanako and Kanji are both some of my all time favorite Persona characters, they are both so sweet and I would do anything for them. Marie is also one of my favorites, I have no idea why anybody could hate her. Yukiko is amazing, Chie is a lot of fun, and Yosuke is hilarious. Teddie is a freak but I love him but I HATE his blue eyes, Rise is super nice, and Naoto is so cool. The Investigation Team is debatably better than the Phantom Thieves as a main cast, but they are so close for me. The main characters are all just great.

As for social links, I think P5 still has it beat here. The social link cast in P4 is still good, but there aren’t any benefits like in P5 and some of the characters here I REALLY don’t like. Sayoko is an outright pedophile. With Kawakami at least if you don’t choose to romance her in-game she isn’t as much of a creep, while Sayoko actively sexually harasses a high schooler. I also did not like Eri, I didn’t get to spend much time with her but she really could have treated her kid better. I know she’s struggling but she would lash out leave her kid at daycare because he was having more fun there than at home. Naoki was cool, I barely got to spend any time with him but from what I did see he was nice and seeing the grieving process of one of Adachi’s victims was super interesting. For the club social links, I chose Kou and Ayane. Kou was great, one of my favorites but I ended up prioritizing party members and couldn’t max him out. Ayane was nice, I like her arc but her voice acting really ruined a lot of the social link for me. Ai was also nice, but I couldn’t spend too much time with her and I didn’t like her romance subplot. I actually liked Shu a surprising amount, he was one of the few I maxed out because I had extra time in the evenings and I really liked how his arc ended. Hisano was one I really missed out on, I only got to rank 3 with her and from what I saw she was one of the most interesting in the game. Dojima is one of the best social links in all of Persona. He is very similar to Sojiro, but he’s a lot darker. There’s a lot more drama with him than with Sojiro, both of them are amazing, and Dojima’s relationship with Nanako is so sweet. Nanako as well might be my favorite Persona character. She is the sweetest thing ever, and I would do anything for her. Marie’s social link was also great, but I really didn’t like Margaret’s. I don’t like any Persona social link that requires you to go on quests. I didn’t like the Strength confidant in P5, and I don’t like Margaret or the Fox in P4. The fox is better by default because he’s a fox, but neither are super interesting to me.

The music is phenomenal because it’s a Persona game, but the P4 OST might be my single favorite Persona soundtrack. Pursuing My True Self, Signs of Love, Heartbeat Heartbreak, Heaven, Alone, Your Affection, Like a Dream Come True, Youthful Lunch, Reach Out to the Truth, Time to Make History, and Omen are some of my favorites. The only Persona game soundtrack to compare with P4 is P5, Whims of Fate, Beneath the Mask, Alleycat, Our Light, When Mother Was There, Price, and Butterfly Kiss are also up there. P4 is more nostalgic for me, so I think it might take the edge for me.

The story of P4 is also much more complex and interesting than P5. If it weren’t for Maruki’s palace being so good, I would say that P4 definitively has the better story. Adachi being the antagonist was such a phenomenal twist, and I loved him so much up to that point that it hurt even more. His social link is a phenomenal addition, I can’t imagine the game without it. Having so many endings is partially a result of flawed game design, but also the depth in the story. It really feels like an investigation team solving a mystery. Pushing further and further towards the truth throughout every suspect, from Kubo to Namatame to Adachi, and even Izanami if that counts, the game really accomplishes its goal. I haven’t done the accomplice ending, but I might do another playthrough to get it after I finish P3R.

P4G is a really great game, I think it’s a bit more flawed than P5R, but it’s still phenomenal and it’s not like P5 has no flaws either. P4 really excels with the story and I think the primary issues with it are just a byproduct of being over 10 years old at this point.

Compilation of general headcanons and analysis about Mayday and other Mayday related things.

I just needed an excuse to fleshen out / analyze Mayday and any HCs I have for her bc I'm thinking soooo much about this game <3 there's also Zuke stuff in here because you can't talk abt one without the other lmfao

Aside from music, Mayday and Zuke share an interest for fixing, modding and tinkering with machines (any piece of tech discarded out in the streets).

Their approach to reverse engineering all the tech they get is different - Mayday focuses on recycling to build something entirely new and more powerful, while Zuke focuses on fixing and perfecting whatever it is that he's tinkering with, to make it more precise.

This is most notable with their respective instruments. Mayday's guitar is 100% built from scratch, spare parts and passion, it's also modded and tuned to her liking. This means that she's literally the ONLY person who can understand how it works, and why she couldn't replace her old guitar once it was destroyed at the end of the game. Meanwhile, Zuke opts for using NSR-brand drumsticks - the best of the best in the market - which he mods to work better with his way of playing.

The workshop in their base is attributed to Zuke because he's the one who cleared out the area to have all of their little projects located in an organized spot, since most of their living quarters were filled with unfinished projects, wrenches and bolts everywhere and so on. This is because Mayday has a very short attention span and gets attached easily, so she never has the time to finish anything nor the heart to discard her projects - especially when she keeps drawing faces onto everything.

A lot of their equipment was just made by Mayday herself, since she needed speakers strong enough to withstand the power of her guitar without getting fried after every performance. Many of their mutual friends see Zuke as the genius of the duo, but he insists that Mayday is the one doing most of the carry for B2J.

Both Mayday and Zuke got into music because of their loved ones.

It's canon that DK West is the reason Zuke got into music, and I like to think family was also one of the main reasons Mayday got into music, namely rock. One of her dialogues in-game mentions how her grandma used to listen and sing to the Goolings with her using an old radio, despite not knowing the lyrics nor understanding the music.

Whereas Zuke was influenced by his brother's rap career to give music a try, it was kind of the reverse for Mayday - rock music became a big interest for her from a young age, and her family supported her wholeheartedly. They would take her to concerts, buy merch for her whenever it was possible and basically hype her up. Her father can probably name every different phase and era in Mayday's childhood and teenage years based on the groups she was into at the time.

Judging from dialogue, I think it's implied that Mayday was born and raised in Vinyl City, and that she never really travelled outside. So it's not impossible for her family to attend her first concerts (in small, local venues as a teenager, before she and Zuke even met) and her proper debut in B2J. Her family is also the first ones to receive official B2J merch, shirts that she and Zuke designed and that look AWFUL but that they love all the same.

I think this family aspect also ties in nicely with the base game, specifically Yinu's fight since it's the first moment of tension for Mayday and Zuke in which they realize they might not be the good guys for hijacking concerts.

For Mayday, music is a lifestyle, not something to be forced onto people - she goes directly against NSR because of the EDM enforcement and the rock ban, after all. So it makes sense to me that she becomes a bit too engrossed in fighting Yinu's mother, someone who is directly puppeteering her own child and represents parents who live vicariously through their talented kids, to the point where she also forgets that Yinu is a child. A fact that she also initially brushes aside herself since Yinu is part of NSR.

I don't know, I just like when characters are flawed and multifaceted! Mayday and Zuke should be allowed to be hypocrites, as a treat.

Mayday taught herself how to play.

My personal agenda is to also hype up Mayday for being a music genius at 21, so yeah! I like to think she's 100% self-taught, which parallels Zuke's musical education rather nicely. They're both extremely good in their own unique ways.

She used to play by ear, trying to figure out how to play her favorite songs when she was younger, and later began to actually study music notation and so on.

When spontaneously coming up with new melodies and songs for B2J, she mostly uses her phone to record herself singing, as opposed to Zuke immediately needing to jot down everything.

It took awhile for Mayday to pick up and use Kul Fyra's guitar.

After the events of the game, Mayday ABSOLUTELY needed some time to properly process everything - her dialogue is all about realizing that she was in the wrong and reconsider the reason she picked up music in the first, wondering if she began to rebel against NSR because she couldn't cope with B2J and rock (two things very dear to her heart) being rejected, etc. So she wouldn't have had the heart to use her idol's guitar without coming to terms with a lot of things first.

My favorite headcanon to think about is that the cutscene at the very end, during Tatiana's speech, is of Mayday and Zuke performing after B2J's hiatus, after they both help each other mature and grow up a bit. And Mayday using Kul Fyra's guitar is symbolic of her renewed love in music and taking Tatiana's words to heart - "where I have failed, I want you to go beyond".

Mayday doesn't have any powers unique to herself.

Every major character in NSR represents a type of musician or figure in the industry - and I'm not sure if it was meant to be read like this or not, but Zuke reads as that type of person who has really good connections with important figures, who had the chance to pursue higher education and afford expensive equipment, who is knowledgeable when it comes to the ins and outs of the industry BECAUSE he was there to see and experience it all firsthand (if we're taking into account the fact that DK West was implied to be a revolutionary activist related to NSR). He's even the one who is the most reluctant to go against NSR and gives them the benefit of the doubt, which can easily be attributed to him being the calm and collected, reasonable half of the duo but also because he personally knows EVE (and DK West if you count him as an important major figure). He's a huge fucking nerd with a degree and it makes sense that he's the one giving ALL the information about the music industry when interacting with all the objects around Vinyl City.

But May? Her dialogue is all about more common things, the way she talks about certain people shows that she knew them personally, that they were friends or acquaintances from all over town instead of the important figures Zuke speaks of. She complains a lot about the fact that from a surface level, NSR does look like a bunch of sellouts and really offers that underdog vibe in B2J. She has NO connections to ANY major character in NSR other than being a fan of Kul Fyra. We know virtually nothing about her backstory too.

So to me it makes sense that Mayday lacks any sort of unique and incredible ability, as she IS part of the little guys that B2J fight for. The underdogs that get brushed aside for whatever reason, because they're not relevant or seen as profitable and so on. She represents the artists who are naive, full of passion for their craft and determination to make their dreams work regardless of how cruel the industry might be.

My personal hot take is that instead of powers and some innate talent, Mayday offers something else: deep connections with people.

This example might not click with everyone since it's how I personally perceived the music and all and I actually know absolutely nothing about music other than It Sounds Good and It Makes Me Want To Dance, but yknow!

When listening to the B2J solos, there are times when Zuke's solo is very aggressive and almost takes over the entire song, which makes sense since it's a solo and they ARE trying to win over EDM. But Mayday's solos blend in so well with the base track of each boss fight, like she really is trying to match their vibe using her own genre rather than fight for the spotlight.

This is most noticeable in Eve's fight - both Zuke and Mayday's solos match Eve's base track perfectly. You can understand why Zuke would match her, since they know each other intimately and when you explore Dream Fever, he's the one giving ALL the in-depth explanations about Eve's vision when creating her sculptures and art. But Mayday would have no reason to match Eve at all, she doesn't understand any of her art let alone know her as a person. And still, the ONE thing Zuke tells Eve at the end of the fight is that if Eve came to know Mayday the way he does, she would like her as well. Zuke is happier being Mayday's friend and bandmate despite the fact that he's Mayday's antithesis, than being part of a big company and records label with his super hot girlfriend.

I like to think that Mayday's solos, the fact that she is Zuke's direct opposite in almost every way, that she's closely tied to the regular people and citizens of Vinyl City and that piece of dialogue from Zuke are a testament to Mayday's ability to really reach out to people through music. Not to say that her power is just friendship, but just the fact that she can adapt and come to understand anyone - as long as it's in a musical setting.

Personally I like it more when Mayday is just a regular girl without unique powers, but you could take these aspect of her and turn them into its own power!

(sorry for leaving y’all in suspense I was grocery shopping) Surprise!! I accidentally got into Len’en like two weeks ago. Whoops! I got ideas for cool drawings to do with each of the BPoHC shrine team members (and you-know-who, ofc, but that one might be… weird lol), but Tsubakura gets to go first cause theirs is the simplest; just greyscale + red color scheme with a split background and the pose is mostly random (maybe they’re squishing Tsurubami’s little eye thing? Idk). Very pleased with how everything worked out; the line for the eye is exactly where the dividing line for the background was and the way I managed to make the vest corseted while not changing the ribbon placement is just perfect. Although I did make their hat smaller out of the aforementioned cowardice also that thing is hard to draw
