Hi! I was going through your profile to read more of Spidey! Reader and I saw the ask of songs going for each character, and your comment about Reed and Spidey! Reader being parallels of Bruce and DC! Reader??
HELLO?? THATS SO COOL!!! I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR MORE IF YOU HAVE ANY OTHER IDEAS
IF NOT ITS OKAY I WAS JUST CURIOUS!! HAVE A GOOD DAY/NIGHT
Tumblr media
HII IM SO HAPPY YOU ASKED ABOUT THIS ARGHHHH i have so much to say
ok so yes! reed and spidey r gonna parallel bruce and spidey (or more accurately bruce and dc!reader) very hard as in that's what he could've had, ykwim???
in chapter 5, reed acknowledges spidey's intellect and treats them as if they're equals. spidey appreciates this immensely, feeling good that the literal smartest man in the world sees them as such. this is their dynamic. reed sees spidey as an equal, yet as somebody who needs to be nurtured. you're a genius, creating most of your web shooters and technology from scratch, yet needing help on some of the technicalities, which he's happy to provide.
spidey comes to reed when they need help. spidey isn't afraid that he'll make them look dumb. that he'll believe its a waste of time because he cares. he genuinely cares about spidey, maybe even past that of a mentor, and wants to see them succeed so bad because he knows just how incredibly brilliant you are, and he's so, so proud.
from the first moment you'd met him, still an awkward kid getting the hang of your new powers, with braces and that hormonal teen acne, begging to be let on his team because otherwise, j. jonah jameson would actually eat you alive.
bypassing the highest level of baxter building security protocols with ease and using some kind of inorganic webbing that was unlike anything hed ever seen. ever since that day, reed knew you were absolutely incredible, and wishes you'd see yourself as such.
(basically, your science dad lol)
now, here comes the parallel with dc!reader. bruce was the complete opposite of reed. he'd never had the time to see dc!reader. always busy. with this new robin, this new criminal, this new "addition to the family", bruce never gave you the time of day because he just couldn't.
he'd never noticed the things you made, the grades you topped, the things you tinkered with. he'd never seen it and probably never would've if you'd never been shot. he never saw how smart you were, and it made you feel inadequate. like no matter how many things you did, how many gadgets you made or how incredible your inventions really were; you were invisible.
you'd never come to him for help. you used to try, all that time ago, but he'd say he was too busy. always too busy. never free enough to look your way, let alone help you calculate the density needed for web shooters.
(in the end, you'd never be able to make those webs. ...not in that universe, anyway).
but eventually, he sees it. he sees you (you as in spidey haha). when you pull away, he feels the tug and soon you're too far to catch up.
maybe it's when you reveal that you're spidey. maybe it's when you babysit franklin and reed comes to pick him up. maybe he sees you and reed and sue all walking together through a night-time science convention when he's on patrol.
it doesn't matter when, he just sees it, and his heart sinks. you would wrap your arms around your science dad™ after he'd help you with one thing or another, unaware of the lingering eyes following your every move.
... just how much had he missed, he wonders. he'd never seen you hug somebody that tightly since you were a little kid. ... but you're not anymore, are you? right. he'd... he'd almost forgotten.
he never wanted you in the vigilante life. never wanted you in danger. but it consumed his life. every waking moment. always busy, too busy, always too busy for you. but now, he sees you; latching onto this older man (perhaps a similar age to him, maybe younger) and grinning up at him like you'd done it a hundred times before.
... you'd never hugged him, had you?
especially these days. your eyes are colder than ever, touch even more so. you slinked around the manor like you wanted nobody to find you and you'd escape conversations as soon as you possibly could when somebody tried to speak with you. (that part hurt dick the most).
you're so different than he remembers. (though, how could he say that? the last thing he remembers is when his boy, his jason was still young too. the last few memories he wanted to block out forever. too bad that included you, too).
god forbid you accidentally call reed dad one day, then he'd be really pissed off. especially because you stopped calling him dad (or any variant of it) for some reason. really, it was because you'd switched places with his actual kid, and you never ended up seeing him as a father, so it came unconsciously. though, he didn't know this. for all he knew, you just... given up on his one day, for that man.
who seemed... all too glad to give you the acknowledgement you wanted.
all in all, you and reed represent a very important concept that the fantastic four are literally in this story to represent. what could've been. it stirs longing, guilt, and especially in this story, a kind of obsession of "making it all better".
you once looked up to bruce, your father, so dearly, preening when he gave you a sliver of his attention. doesn't every child? you'd go back to this one day, he's sure. this time, though, he'll spend as much time with you as you want. you can go to science conventions with him, as much as he has little interest in that type of thing.
he can help you now that he sees you, so just forget that man, okay? he'll always be your dad.
tysm for the ask my love im gen so happy i got to talk about this teehee

I think we should talk more about the mysgony when it comes to parents in media, and how fathers are favoured and praised for the most the most basic shit while mothers are demonised for making mistakes or being bad. This is gonna be a long one, buckle up.
I hate Mrs Rosehearts as much as the next guy, but it's unfair that Mr Rosehearts is not given similar criticism for allowing his wife to treat Riddle the way he does. I hardly see people bring him up apart from mentioning that Riddle's parents probably have an unhappy marriage, and some people say something along the lines of "poor Mr Rosehearts, struggling with a wife like that".
Of course, we don't know enough about his character to gauge how Mrs Rosehearts treats him, bit it's clear he just passively stands to the side when it comes to whatever Mrs Rosehearts wants to do with Riddle. That itself is very harmful and it's own form of abuse, imo.
The same applies to Alador Blight from the Owl House. He's praised for being a wonderful dad that finally came through and stood up to his "horrible wretched bitch of a wife" (who, if she was a guy, would probably have more people analysing her and trying to find ways to sympathise with her just saying)..
And while, yes, he did stand up to her and that's a good thing, the general consensus is he was a brilliant dad from the start that was held back by his wife's wicked ways. But... that's not true? His first appearance is him telling Amity to stop being friends with Willow. He ignores his children constantly, and, like Mr Rosehearts, stands passively to the side when Odaliah treats her children like her property.
He's a neglectful parent at best and just as concerned with image and status at Odaliah at worst. But... that stuff is just forgotten. Most people just say "we thought he was bad but it turns out he was manipulated by his wife". He is HIS OWN PERSON. You cannot just blame everything on his "evil manipulative wife" (which is also smt that sometimes happens irl when both parents are abusive). He is still fully capable of making his own decisions.
And again, it's unfortunate, but if Odaliah were to be given his treatment or if Alador were a woman, the general response would be "That's sad but not an excuse! I can't believe she was forgiven!"
The worst I can think of atm, is Silco and Vi from Arcane. Now ofc they're not married. But the circumstances are similar.
Silco is praised to the high heavens for being one of the best dads in animation (#1 goes to Doofenshmirtz ofc, which I agree with) and the reasons for this are because he... shows his care, puts Jinx first, and loves her. Wow. Fucking groundbreaking am I right. The bar is soooo high/s
The thing is, Jinx is a child soldier. She works for Silco, protects his shipments of Shimmer, takes out the enemies that need taken out, etc. He found her as a young child, and when we cut to the present, she's murdering people without so much as flinching, even delighting in it, and suffering badly from trauma and hallucinations.
Obviously, Jinx was not given the care she needed, and was instead trained to assist Silco.
Am I denying Silco loves her? Of course not! He clearly does. But that's just not good enough. He's a loving dad, but not a good one. He's not the father that neither Jinx nor Powder needed.
Meanwhile, we have Vi. Vi loves Powder, protects her, cares for her, tries to keep her out of harm, stands up for her, and so on. She cares so deeply for Powder, and you can see it. The moment she got out of prison, her first goal was to find Powder.
However, because she hit Powder once, and shouted at her, she's apparently an abusive monster who never cared about Powder. Reminder, she hit Powder because her entire family was killed in front of her and then she learned Powder was the reason that happened. She was like... 14? And she immediately left to calm down. She did not abandon Powder, she left to take a breather because she realised she was too angry. And when she came back, she was drugged and arrested.
Silco is a grown adult who purposefully flooded the streets of the Undercity with a highly addictive drug, turned Powder into a soldier, and is generally a terrible person, even if he is a three dimensional amd well written antagonist.
Vi started the story as a teenager suffering poverty and discrimination just like Silco, had to deal with her own parents death, then her adoptive family was killed in front of her, and then she was forcefully taken from her sister. And yet, people are convinced Vi is a terrible and abusive sister who never loved Powder?
The only example worse than this, methinks, is Stella and Stolas from Helluva Boss.
Stella is a shitty mother who ignores her daughter, which the the audience is shown via a scene were Octavia is having a nightmare and she tells Stolas to deal with it. She frequently screams and swears at Stolas and throws things at him, with no regard for her daughter's presence or feelings.
This is pretty terrible, right? Of course! Everyone knows Stella is a horrible mother.
Stolas on the other hand, is praised for being such an loving and caring father, who tries his best. He even has a song with Octavia!
Well, he also: openly talks about having sex with Blitz and how much he likes it while she was right there, told her people want her money and her body, generally doesn't pay much attention to her either bc he's wallowing about Blitz not loving him back, and doesn't give her feelings much regard.
And yet, the misogyny extends beyond just Stella because people generally agree that Octavia is ungrateful and doesn't appreciate Stolas enough. They get mad at her for disliking the fact that Stolas is cheating on her mother with an imp who's been nothing but rude to her and ruining their family further, and even mock her for feeling unloved. Hell even Brandon, one of the creators, has allegedly recently called her a "cockblocking slut" which, frankly, is a disgusting thing to say about a 17 year old girl.
Idk man I'm just tired.

TOH x DC: One-Sided Identity Shenanigans
Cause like...the Owl House gang didn't bother to make secret identities
Part One, Part Two, Part Four
Masterlist
Jason, finally finding an opportunity to talk to Vee alone during their volunteer shift: hi.
Vee, thinking he's going to blackmail and/or permanently silence her for figuring out his secret identity: *about to have a panic attack*
Jason: so I heard about vigilante bingo
Vee, who was expecting him to say something WAY different: ...huh?
Jason, continuing: I have it on good authority that Spoiler made a deal with Eda to help her win
Vee: ??? (when did Eda have time to talk to Spoiler???)
Jason: but personally I'm rooting for Luz
Vee, still processing the fact that she and Eda are now officially cheating:
Jason: also, expect the other vigilantes to start throwing their hat in the ring soon. They can be really competitive
Jason, patting her on the shoulder as he leaves: okay good talk
(Amity and Luz arriving at Barbara's apartment for girls' night)
Steph, answering the door with an evil glint in her eyes: oh, you must be Babs' new friends! I've heard so much about you >:D
(eventually, the topic switches to vigilantes, thanks to one meddling Steph)
Steph, trying to feed Lumity false information to stop them from getting more points in bingo: you know, I hear the only vigilante who's ever given out autographs is Spoiler
Barbara, also invested in bingo and trying to help her new sister win: *narrowing her eyes* don't listen to Steph, she doesn't know what she's talking about. Spoiler's never given an autograph before. Ask Red Hood
Steph, who knows Jason will absolutely give an autograph to Luz: *glares at Babs*
Luz, who doesn't know they know about the bingo cards: haha why would we want an autograph??
(Batfamily meeting in the cave)
Steph: well we can't all speedrun bingo!
Jason: oh yeah? Who's gonna stop me?
Steph: it was my idea to meddle! I can easily do all the tasks before you can!
Babs, trying to defuse the situation before someone catches a Batarang in the knee: okay, okay. What if we made rules about how much we can interfere?
Steph, still glaring at Jason: ...I'm listening
[THE RULES:
1. The party you aid cannot be aware that you're aiding them - it must appear to be coincidence.
2. You cannot outright say things such as "Got any ice cream around here?" to prompt challenge completion - the subject of the challenge must be brought up by the party you aid.
3. Failure to comply with the above rules results in penalties including, but not limited to, extra patrols, public humiliation, and death by disappointing Alfred. Penalties are decided by Batwoman based on the severity of the rule infraction.]
Gus, on his first day as a news anchor: well folks it looks like we've got some quality rogues active in central Gotham today!
Camera crew, concerned about this kid's apparent apathy towards dangerous criminals:
Gus "I Was The MC For My Friends' Gladiator Match Against The Actual Embodiment Of Fear" Porter: Two-Face just made a move on Gotham National Bank - but oh? What's this? *listening to his earpiece* the temperature is dropping, grab your coats everyone because Mr. Freeze is here for six more weeks of winter!
Kevin the Cameraman, whispering to his coworker Beth: actually I think he's perfect for this
Signal, out alone and having to deal with both Two-Face and Freeze: I cannot live laugh love in these conditions
Gus, ten yards away in front of a camera, glancing back at Signal and winking: *mouthing* I gotchu fam
Real Gus, lying in wait behind a building while Illusion Gus MCs: *traps Mr. Freeze in a mental purgatory of his worst nightmares as soon as Freeze walks by*
Mr. Freeze, suddenly screaming and collapsing: Nora, don't leave me!
Real Gus: oops might have reawakened some trauma there
Signal, not one to look a gift horse in the mouth: *punches a distracted Two-Face and hauls both him and Freeze back to Arkham* don't know what that guy did to Freeze but whatever works ig
Hunter: *enjoying a peaceful night on the balcony with Willow*
Robin, manifesting: woodcarver.
Hunter: ??? Hello???
Robin: I would like to carve a palisman.
Hunter, confused: *looking to Willow for support with the stabby child*
Willow: *thumbs-up*
Hunter, finally getting Robin to talk about his emotions: what do you care about?
Robin, lore dropping like there's no tomorrow: I was genetically engineered to be the perfect combination of my mother and father. Growing up, I was expected to be the heir to both their legacies as the Demon's Head and the Bat. I always thought I wanted to take up the mantle, but it feels like a burden instead of some great destiny.
Hunter, making a few connections: ...you were supposed to fill the role of someone else?
Robin: yes, that's what I just said
Hunter, smiling: me too!
Hunter: though for me I was genetically engineered to be a copy of my former uncle's brother. And I was supposed to serve that uncle as the Golden Guard
Hunter, having a moment: ...and then I found out he was lying about our family and that he was trying to commit genocide
Hunter, spiraling: ...and then I found all the masks of the former Golden Guards...
Hunter: ...and realized he killed them all every time they - we - betrayed him...
Robin:
Hunter: ...and then he killed Flapjack...
Robin, prepared to go to war: let us kill that imbecile for his crimes.
Hunter, appreciating the support: thanks, but it's already taken care of :)
Batman, approaching the Clawthornes: Eda.
Eda: Batman.
Batman, actually kinda trying to help: King is fourteen, correct?
Eda: what's it to you?
Batman: that would place him at the start of high school. It might be good for him to interact with kids his own age.
Eda, squaring up: don't tell me how to parent my kid!
Eda, immediately turning to King: do you wanna go to school?
King: hmm maybe, I don't really know how human schools work and don't want to deal with what Luz went through...
Batman, who has a fourteen year old who also doesn't want to deal with school (but has to anyway to keep up appearances): we could get you a student liaison to shadow. If you want, they could be informed of your situation so you have someone to talk to
King: ...yeah sure sounds interesting
King, approaching The Bingo Council that night: is Batman getting me into school considered an almost-adoption? Cause I feel like if Eda wasn't there he would've adopted me
Eda, crossing her arms: I vote no. Adoption has to go through me and we have to fight for custody
Gus, who wants a point: I argue yes. We all know Batman has an adoption problem and Eda openly challenged his parenting attempts
Vee, off to the side, twiddling her thumbs and wondering if Batman is one of the vigilantes involved in Bingo Interference:
King, walking into class on his first day and seeing the glowering student liaison that everyone seems afraid of: *squints*
Damian: *narrows his eyes, waiting to see what King does*
King: *sips his Starbucks suspiciously*
Current Standings for Vigilante Bingo:
Lumity:
Tumblr media
Huntlow:
Tumblr media
An argument was made for "have a vigilante crash through your window", but since Robin never technically went inside the apartment, it was vetoed.
Gus and King:
Tumblr media
Gus was awarded the "be a hero" square for taking out Mr. Freeze. The council agreed that more effort needs to be made on the "almost adopted by Batman" front. Should Batman try again, King will receive the point.
Eda and Vee:
Tumblr media
Vee stewed in silence for the entire council meeting for unknown reasons.

“go to hell” is basic. “I hope your favorite dragon age faction gets revealed as a bunch of fucking losers who fucked up so bad and for no reason whatsoever rendering their later attempts at surviving a skill issue” is smart. it’s possible. it’s terrifying

I wrote out before what I imagined Luz's life would be like if she never went to the Boiling Isles, so I figured I'd give my idea on what happened to the witches of the Boiling Isles in that situation. (Something I've shared with @ordinaryschmuck)
Belos's plans for the Day of Unity continued on unimpeded....but unbeknownst to him, Raine Whispers, Darius, and Eberwolf work to understand his goals and plans. After an undiscovered trip into his mind (along with the Emperor's own nephew) and discovering his plans, they work to save the inhabitants of Bonesborough. Raine gets an idea.....and goes to see their ex, Eda the Owl Lady. After a lot of discussion and secret maneuvering among their coven members, they all get to work in evacuating all the willing Bonesborough residents along with any kind of possessions they can take into the human world.
Unfortunately, when they try to get Alador to leave on the Day of Unity, while he and his children are willing to go, Odalia isn't and tells Belos and the Coven heads of this plan. The evacuess frantically flee as Belos charges to try and bring them back. Eda the Owl Lady engages him in battle in order to give the last few people enough time to escape...but the battle uses the last of her magic and she's trapped in the form of the Owl Beast, Raine just managing to get her cursed form through the portal door before shutting it on Belos.
At first, it was an adjustment for the former Demon Realm inhabitants to live in the human world, especially since the human "knowledge' they had was extremely innacurate. But, one day, Raine, Darius, and Eberwolf were all approached by a mysterious organization. One member was an effeminate man named Mr X.....and the leader of the grouo was a man with six fingers, grey hair, and glasses wearing a trenchcoat who knew a great deal about the Boiling Isles, simply called "The Professor." After a long talk, they agreed to help the Demon Realm folks integrate onto the human world, giving them forged legal documents and things so they could do stuff like attend human schools and get jobs.
The organization also assisted in helping build a place hidden away, where the Boiling Isles folks could live without needing to hide if they wanted to and hold onto their witch culture, called New Bonesborough. They even assisted them in finding any sort of magical beings banished to the human realm and make contact with them in the hopes they'd join their society.
Some witches decided to integrate into human society, living hidden through the use of illusion stones. Some chose to live in New Bonesborugh full time, continuing their old lives the best they could. And some split their time between the two worlds, living amongst both.
Raine was one such witch, spending half their time as a leader in New Bonesborugh's witches council and the other in the human world being a music professor at Gravesdield University....and now raising their adopted son, King.
And so, the Witches of the Boiling Isles did their best to make peace with their new human world lives, living amongst them in secret.....for a good few years at least.
But that's another story....
If anyone has any asks or questions about this scenario, I'm happy to answer them.
