I'm starting to realize my memory has holes.
Like If a bad thing happened, even If it was yesterday I'm just remembering it like flashbacks

Every little thing. Inside-out laundry that didn’t get fixed. Dishes that were put away in the wrong cabinet. Questions that were asked because I forgot they were answered five minutes ago. I literally just had to pause writing that last sentence because I remembered I forgot to brush my teeth.
Yet I memorized the first two chapters of my hyperfixation, my favorite book. I could spell words my parents couldn’t at age 8 because I memorized the spelling of every word I read.
I almost can’t blame my parents for thinking I’m just lazy.
Why am I like this????

Having short-term memory problems and having issues remembering things you’ve said on the fly can be… a massive issue sometimes.
Because it is so easy for someone to tell you that you said something, and if you’ve forgotten enough or if what they say you said lines up enough with the emotions you were feeling during that conversation, it’s really easy for them to just… make you believe that you said or thought something at some point. Especially if you know you have memory problems and partially rely on documentation and other’s recollections to fully format the scope of your memory.
It’s really scary because I know from experience that it’s so easy for someone to gaslight you when you have those issues. And people love to say that you said things or implied things that sound just about accurate but in reality aren’t. Especially if I’m caught off guard, it can be really easy for someone to just… convince me to apologize for something I never actually said.
It’s happened here a few times, especially recently, where someone has berated me and I took what they said at face value because I didn’t remember, but then I go back and realize “wait the fuck a minute, I never said that-”.

I just got hit with the soul crushing reminder that I’ll never be normal.
I’ll never be mature enough, I’ll never remember enough, and I’ll always be this way.

I try to remember. I can't remember. So much has disappeared from the past or appears altered to me now. Remembering is like dreaming unless it was yesterday.

Cohen didn't bother overmuch with questions. As far as Cohen was concerned, people appeared, people disappeared. After a five-year gap he'd just say, "Oh, it's you." He never added, "And how are you?" You were alive, you were upright, and beyond that he didn't give a damn.

H.M (the guy who underwent a surgery to get his medial temporal lobes removed in order to alleviate his severe epilepsy but ended up losing his ability to remember things that happened after the surgery) was able to count passing cars of certain color and when not distracted, could continue doing this with no problems. The reason is that his short-term memory was intact and as long as he kept the task active in his mind, he could remember it. However, when his attention got directed somewhere else, he forgot he ever counted any cars because the memory of doing so never got to his long-term memory. I think this is very interesting because it goes to show that short-term memory isn't necessarily short and in theory "[the information in] it can -- be maintained indefinitely"
