hey bitches! so, i have a freelance side hustle that i’ve decided to try and make an actual living with (i lost my day job in october and have been unsuccessfully job-hunting ever since, and im frankly ready to give up and just go it alone). yall have posted some great stuff over the years about things like setting prices and doing taxes and stuff, but im having a more nebulous problem of like. the mindset shift? i guess? it’s hard thinking of this project as My Full-Time Job rather than still trying to get myself back to corporate cubicleville, and figuring out how to manage my time throughout the week. do you guys (or any of your followers) have any advice for making the lifestyle shift?

No but seriously: the only way to successfully shift from full-time employee to self-employed is to create a work routine for yourself and stick to it. Keep regular hours. Wake up at the same time every working day. Set intentional breaks and off-hours for yourself. Don't accept social plans during your self-imposed work hours.

This is a very normal thing you're experiencing, and you're very wise to be thinking this way! We also recommend joining forces with other freelancers. It can be very lonely to work alone, but if you meet other freelancers once a week at the library or a coworking space, you'll not only gain a sense of solidarity, but you can share tips with each other on how to stay in the mindset.

hm i don't have burnout but ive been pretty unhealthy over the past week (turns out i Have to go outside otherwise i get sharp fucking headaches), and like feeling sick because i didn't eat, that kind of stuff. but like its not like im doing thus for anyone else. im doing this for me. but i also don't know how to lower the standard and how to be ok with 'okay im going to stop while i still feel good' (cause that feels like betrayal somehow, like i could've worked longer and gotten all of these problems out of the way faster...) in any case im gonna go for a walk now

One massive, legitimate way to improve as a writer or artist or in any creative endeavor really, is to become absolutely obsessed with something and to allow yourself to be weird about it. Genuinely mean this btw.

Sure sure romantic pairings are fine and all. But more people should perhaps consider two characters loving each other to the point of incomprehensibility. To the point that there is no simpler way in english to define or describe it than just to say those characters’ names together, joined eternally by the vague conjunction ‘and’. There’s so many types of love and dependencies and emotions in general thrown in there that you can’t tell what colors they are anymore, they’ve just joined into a giant blobby mess that’s almost black, but when you look closer glistens with more colors than there are names for. Just a thought

if you post an image in discord itll round the corners, but once you hit a certain smallness it rounds into a circle. so basically if you make an image that is 32x32 and you post it in discord itll go from this

so you basically can just draw a little face in mspaint or something and paste it into discord and itll look like a little emoji. you can potentially mess around with this a lot, its proportional to your image going smaller and it doesnt have to be a square either.
