I still promps…
And I… I still love you, even after all of this time 🙈
It turned out to be a slow day, with few scheduled appointments and only one walk-in, but that just left Demelza with more time to dwell. Throughout her shift, she found herself unable to concentrate--and even to breathe.
“Jodie? Can I ask you something hypothetical?” Demelza finally asked the young vet tech who was leaning against the reception desk, bored and picking at her nails. Usually painted black, for the season they were an alternating red and green.
“Hypothetical as in something that is actually happening in your life right now, Dr. Carne?” Jodie replied.
Good god was I this cheeky when I was a student?
“Not right now but at 3PM,” Demelza laughed. “I’m meant to have a drink with my ex…”
“And you want to know what to wear?”
“No, I have that covered,” Demelza stammered. Trying not to overthink it, she’d chosen her favourite black top, one that wasn’t really off the shoulder but easily slipped if made any movements at all. It wasn’t meant to be sexy but made her feel confident all the same. It was shoved in her rucksack now--along with a nicer bra.
“You want to know if you should keep the date?” Jodie asked.
“It's not a date, just a drink.”
“Just a coffee is a thing,” Jodie rolled her eyes. “A drink is always something else.”
“Well we already had a coffee,” Demelza admitted. “But that was unplanned, just a random encounter.”
“Let me guess--you got talking about old times? ‘My darling, I've missed you so. And, I… I still love you, even after all of this time’...” Jodie pulled her best thespian moves, complete with melodramatic hands clasped to her heart. “No? Well, maybe he didn't confess it yet but tonight over a drink he might.”
“No, that’s not what this is!” Even though she knew Jodie was just winding her up, Demelza heard herself growing defensive. “We were just talkin’ and we felt we needed to talk a little more.”
“You both admitted that you wanted to talk more? Sorry, Doctor, sounds like a date. Is he fit?”
“That’s not the point,” Demelza said. She wasn’t about to play into Jodie’s hands and confirm that yes, in fact Ross was quite attractive, even after all of this time.
“Is he into head games?” Jodie narrowed her eyes.
“No, no he is not.”
“Do a coin flip,” Jodie shrugged. “Heads you go, tails you don’t. Then gut check your response. If you're disappointed with the outcome, you'll know how you really feel.”
“But regardless of the outcome, I can’t cancel now.”
“I think you just flipped the coin in your head, Dr. Carne. Unless you are looking for someone to give you permission not to go.?
“No, I…”
“Wear those jeans,” Jodie said with an approving nod. “They make your ass look nice. But make sure they don’t smell like cat wee.”

Thanks @veryflowerobservation for another prompt. More to come, I promise.

Thank you to all those who participated in this challenge last week. Remember, there are no deadlines on any of my challenges, only the ones you set yourself. The aim is to inspire and that does not have a time limit :D
Week Four
Totally self indulgent this week as I take a comment from @gaviiadastra and run with it.
This week is FISHTANK!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you would like to join in, have at it. Write, draw, paint, craft, scribble, whatever works :D
The Details
I will post a small palette of colours, on Sundays.
Take the colours, which will not be precise, because I’m too lazy to get out my Pantone swatches, and colour matching sucks across monitors and printers and yeah, it’s a graphic design nightmare. So take the approximate colours and do something with with them. Art, craft, traditional, digital, performance, big, small, using all the colours, one of the colours, a derivative of the colours, fanworks or not fanworks, whatever works. I know, getting the creative brain to produce anything is a pain in many body parts. And writers, if this floats your boat, grab it and let’s go sailing :D
Post it to your blog (or not, but I’d love to see it anyway) and tag with #nuttypalette (the whole challenge title is too long and it abbreviates to npc which while I love Ryan Reynolds, isn’t really what I’m looking for :D )
How I ended up doing this
Okay, I’m possibly nuts, actually, probably nuts, but I’ve been looking for a way to activate my art a bit more. I can draw, paint, whatever and I have a studio full of glorious equipment that is barely getting used.
I had thought to start a sketch book, but the problem with that is that not all my media can be supported in a sketch book and plus I am horribly hard to tie down into one thing (you may have noticed).
I was pondering away and it occurred to me that the one thing that links all my art and craft media is colour. This combined with the fact that I have a pile of beads lined up on my desk in colour combos waiting for me to action something with them. They are like mini palettes. So what if I come up with a small combination of colours every week and do whatever with those colours?
I know I’m not the first to have this brain wave, but it struck me as something I could do, so I’m doing it. Initially for the month of February and see what happens. It may fizzle into nothing due to being back at work :( but at the very least I’ll end up with a little bit of creative stuff done?
So I’m slapping it here, in case anyone would like to join in.
Have fun :D

Romantic Moment Prompts
Feeling incredibly lonely, but as a writer, even though I'm single, I can still put my ideas for romantic couple things down here.
One member of the couple showing up at the other's door in the rain. It could be to say they're sorry for something, showing up because they didn't want to be alone that night, or just to say that they love the other.
Staying awake and giving their partner a hug after they had a bad dream.
Staying home from work/school to take care of their partner when they're feeling sick.
One comes home to the other having already fixed dinner as a surprise for them
You're welcome to use these for your stories! And also, feel free to send me some more prompt ideas in the comments or VIA an "Ask", I'd love to hear them...

They say you die three times, first when the body dies, second, when your body enters the grave, and third, when your name is spoken for the last time. You were a normal person in life, but hundreds of years later, you still haven't had your "third" death. You decide to find out why.

it's always so fascinating and heartbreaking when a character in a story is simultaneously idolized and abused. a chosen prophet destined for martyrdom. a child prodigy forced to grow up too fast. a powerful warrior raised as nothing but a weapon. there's just something so uniquely messed up about singing someone's praises whilst destroying them.

reblog if you’ve read fanfictions that are more professional, better written than some actual novels. I’m trying to see something

i do unironically think the best artists of our generation are posting to get 20 notes and 3 reblogs btw. that fanfic with like 45 kudos is some of the best stuff ever written. those OCs you carry around have some of the richest backstories and worldbuilding someone has ever seen. please do not think that reaching only a few people when you post means your art isn't worth celebrating.

Hey! Are there blacksmiths in your story? I'm a hobbyist blacksmith and I'm here to help!
Blacksmithing is one of those things that a lot of people get wrong because they don't realize it stuck around past the advent of the assembly line. Here's a list of some common misconceptions I see and what to do instead!
Not all blacksmiths are gigantic terrifying muscly guys with beards and deep voices. I am 5'8, skinny as a twig, have the muscle mass of wet bread, and exist on Tumblr. Anybody who is strong enough to pick up a hammer and understands fire safety can be a blacksmith.
You can make more than just swords with blacksmithing. Though swords are undeniably practical, they're not the only things that can be made. I've made candle holders, wall hooks, kebab skewers, fire pokers, and more. Look up things other people have made, it's really amazing what can be done.
"Red-hot" is actually not that hot by blacksmith terms. when heated up, the metal goes from black, to red, to orange, to yellow, to white. (for temperature reference, I got a second degree burn from picking up a piece of metal on black heat) The ideal color to work with the metal is yellow. White is not ideal at all, because the metal starts sparking and gets all weird and lumpy when it cools. (At no point in this process does the metal get even close to melting. It gets soft enough to work with, but I have never once seen metal become a liquid.)
Blacksmithing takes fucking forever. Not even taking into account starting the forge, selecting and preparing metal, etc. etc. it takes me around an hour to make one (1) fancy skewer. The metals blacksmiths work with heat up and cool down incredibly fast. When the forge is going good, it only takes like 20 seconds to get your metal hot enough to work with, but it takes about the same time for it to cool down, sometimes even less.
As long as you are careful, it is actually stupidly easy to not get hurt while blacksmithing. When I picked up this hobby I was like "okay, cool! I'm gonna make stuff, and I'm gonna end up in the hospital at some point!" Thus far, the latter has yet to occur. I've been doing this for nearly a year. I have earned myself a new scar from the aforementioned second degree burn, and one singe mark on my jeans. I don't even wear gloves half the time. Literally just eye protection, common sense, and fast reflexes and you'll probably be fine. (Accidents still happen of course, but I have found adequate safety weirdly easy to achieve with this hobby)
A forge is not a fire. The forge is the thing blacksmiths put their metal in to heat it up. It starts as a small fire, usually with newspaper or something else that's relatively small and burns easily, which we then put in the forge itself, which is sort of a fireplace-esque thing (there's a lot of different types of forge, look into it and try to figure out what sort of forge would make the most sense for the context you're writing about) and we cover it with coal, which then catches fire and heats up. The forge gets really hot, and sometimes really bright. Sometimes when I stare at the forge for too long it's like staring into the sun. The forge is also not a waterfall of lava, Steven Universe. It doesn't work like that, Steven Universe.
Welding and blacksmithing are not the same thing. They often go hand-in-hand, but you cannot connected two pieces of metal with traditional blacksmithing alone. There is something called forge welding, where you heat your metal, sprinkle borax (or the in-universe equivalent) on it to prevent the metal from oxidizing/being non-weldable, and hammer the pieces together very quickly. Forge welding also sends sparks flying everywhere, and if you're working in a small space with other blacksmiths, you usually want to announce that you're welding before you do, so that everyone in a five-foot radius can get out of that five-foot radius. You also cannot just stuck some random pebbles into the forge and get a decent piece of metal that you can actually make something with, Steven Universe. It doesn't work like that, Steven Universe.
Anvils are really fucking heavy. Nothing else to add here.
Making jewelry is not a blacksmithing thing unless you want jewelry made of steel. And it will be very ugly if you try. Blacksmithing wasn't invented to make small things.
If there's anything here I didn't mention, just ask and I'll do my best to answer.

How to show emotions
Part IV
How to show bitterness
tightness around their eyes
pinched mouth
sour expression on their face
crossed arms
snorting angrily
turning their eyes upward
shaking their head
How to show hysteria
fast breathing
chest heaving
trembling of their hands
weak knees, giving in
tears flowing down their face uncontrollably
laughing while crying
not being able to stand still
How to show awe
tension leaving their body
shoulders dropping
standing still
opening mouth
slack jaw
not being able to speak correctly
slowed down breathing
wide eyes open
softening their gaze
staring unabashingly
How to show shame
vacant stare
looking down
turning their head away
cannot look at another person
putting their head into their hands
shaking their head
How to show being flustered
blushing
looking down
nervous smile
sharp intake of breath
quickening of breath
blinking rapidly
breaking eye contact
trying to busy their hands
playing with their hair
fidgeting with their fingers
opening mouth without speaking

A strange alien doctor stands near the unconscious body of Padme Amidala. “It appears she has lost the will to live.” A older man with a limp hobbles closer with the aid of a cane. “That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard,” says Dr. Gregory House.
