Summary: Dick bursts into the room. “I’ve just had the Greatest Idea for a group costume this year!!!”
Jason glances over from where he’s holding Damian’s katana out of reach. “Will it fuck with Bruce?”
Dick grins widely. “Of course!”
The assembled bat kids all share a maniacal grin. ”Say no more. We’re in.”

Meanwhile, across Gotham:
Harley bursts into the room. “I’ve just had the Greatest Idea for a group costume this year!!!”
Ivy looks up from the plant she was tending to. “Will it fuck with the bat?”
Harley grins widely. “Of course!”
The assembled rouges all share a maniacal grin. “Say no more. We’re in.”

Meanwhile, in the Batcave:
Bruce shudders as a sudden chill runs down his spine. He brushes it off and turns back to the case file he’s working on. It must be the normal coldness of the cave.
Surely not something else.

I was halfway through a Batman Begins reaction video when I realized like 80% of the fucking movie is Christopher Nolan telling people to stay out of the ghettos. Cause "the Narrows" is just Gotham City slang for "the ghettos". And as a white person who has spent their whole damn life living in the ghettos.........I cannot🤣
Oh, this whole fucking trilogy is trash.
And I'm not gonna lie my childhood neighborhood was more of a rural ghetto cause it was a small town. Where I live now is a lot more like a stereotypical, inner-city type of ghetto but I live in a mid-sized city. There's 64,000 people here according to Google and the city was literally built by the NYC Mafia families when they still had all the power.
I wouldn't go outside at night by myself where I live, but to be honest I wouldn't feel comfortable doing that anywhere cause I'm tiny and femme-presenting. So I stay indoors after dark, but it's nowhere near as dramatic as Nolan seems to think. Like there is crime, but all of the drama happens behind closed doors.
Like there was literally just a story in the news a few weeks ago about a fucking murder-suicide and some poor little kid ended up a fucking orphan. It didn't happen in the streets, though. It happened in some middle-class fucking suburb. That's where the real horror stories take place because in suburbia there's no one around to hear you scream and even if there is they don't care. How does the old adage go?
"Not my circus, not my monkeys."
Translation: Not my business, not my problem.
So movies like fucking Batman Begins is how you know Christopher Nolan is rightwing trash who has never even set foot in a ghetto in real life.

DP x DC prompt # 8
CLAIRVOYANT DANNY X DCU
He knew he had no choice when he called Constantine for help, but Commissioner Gordon dropped the case off to him; unfortunately even he wasn't able to find any leads to any suspect or clue about it; so meeting the magician was his last resort but…
"Okay Bats, I'll help you in this case just this once, but after that we'll cut it short, okay?" John barked in annoyance as he threw his cigarette butt onto the ground; Batman just growled in annoyance at the blatant dismissal the British always did with any cases of disappearances in Gotham, citing that the city was cursed and he wasn't interested in going near the ‘toxic hotspot’
“Then, do you have any clue about it?” asked the warlock, looking as disheveled as always. Bruce just let out an exhausted sigh before handing him over the case folder and debriefed the contents of it: “The wife and child disappeared while the husband was on a business trip and once he returned, he found his house looted and destroyed, a ransom note was found; in it demanded an exorbitant sum of money for the life of his missing wife and son. However, the note was old, so the victim suspects that his wife and son are already dead, so the police couldn’t find anyone; nobody knows who did it, no suspect has been found so far and there are no video recordings of the night of the incident."
“So, why are you asking me again? By the looks of it, isn’t this just an unsolved cold case?” John grunted as he handed the folder back, but Batman only grunted, “If you look at the photo you will see why I need your insight on this” and John skimmed at the pictures again before stopping short at the picture.
The picture in question had been taken in the foyer of the mansion with the portrait of both wife and son on the floor, but the bizarre thing was, that there were covered in random runes that seemed to be eerily glowing a green hue; John's eyes widened as he stared at the peculiar sigil and runes adorning the photograph. As he studied it more intently, a chill ran down his back as he grumbled
“I might need to call someone for a favor on this one though” he took a picture of some of the evidence before sending it to whoever the magician was texting before starting to call someone, Batman didn’t care and only grunted annoyed as he listened to a one-sided conversation for a minute until the blonde was done with it.
“Who did you talk to just now, Constantine?” asked Batman once he walked closer to the Brit as he spoke some unknown incantations in midair, opening a portal to a distorted green background as he answered “just a little friend who is good with this type of death magic”
And coming out of it, floated a small child with white hair and green luminescent eyes, carrying a planchette in his hands as he closed the portal behind him; the small child-creature brightened up as he saw them and quickly floated closer, his NASA hoodie that was too big for his small body gently swayed in his hovering.
"Interesting," Batman muttered, eyeing the child warily as it floated towards Constantine and smiled enthusiastically at the magician. Batman eyed the magician suspiciously as John ruffled the child hair before explaining, with a huff of fond exhaustion, “this is Phantom, he’s what the occult like to refer as a psychopomp and clairvoyant who helps the souls to cross over”
"And how can he help us with the case?" The child's eyes glimmered as he spoke, a wispy voice exclaimed raising the planchette up "I help with this." said the small fey as it showed Bruce with pride it's planchette; then sided towards Constantine curiously “The Dark Knight smells death, is he one?” the small creature asked, making the Brit splutter in a panic “h-he’s not the one that I asked you to find, it's them!” hastily showing the picture to the kid with the strange sigils in it, the psychopomp grabbed the picture and put it under the planchette, floating down and putting the picture in the ground with the small wooden piece on top. Placing both of his arms out and closing his eyes in deep concentration, his voice who was childish in nature just some seconds ago turned heavy and echoed as it started to recite ominously:
‘por tiuj; kiuj estas perditaj, mi serĉas la animon de la perdita’ ‘konduku lin al eterna ripozo kiel promesite’ ‘do konduku min tien; kie li estas, por ke la ombroj,’  ‘kiuj kovras lin de mia vido, tute malaperu.’*
As soon the small psychopomp finished the strange incantation the small crystal in the planchette started to glow an obviously shade of toxic green for some seconds before fading away making the small child frown worriedly making both of the adults tense, Constantine moved first before tapping its shoulder cautiously "what did you manage to see?"
The small fey grumbled as he floated up, scrubbing his eyes "The missing are not here, still alive, not here, away"
-TBC-
Translation
‘for those; who are lost, I seek thy' 'to lead him to eternal rest as promised' ‘Then take me there; where is he, so that the shadows,' 'those who cover him from my sight, let them completely disappear.'

DCU from a Marvel fans limited perspective
recently i've accidently been sucked into the DCU universe, mostly Bat family, if i'm being honest, and although i've never watched a single movie/episode, this is what i have gathered from purely reading the occasional fanfiction/lots of tumblr posts
SPOILERS i guess
There are A LOT of batkids
Bruce Wayne adopts these motherfuckers like they're some kind of limited edition pokemon set
no one is actually sure how many there are but if you have black hair and blue eyes and live in gotham, Batman doesn't care if you've got parents or not. you're coming home with him
There appears to be five Robins and Batman goes though these children like a chainsmoker with a pack of cigarettes
people die a lot
Thats okay though because people come back to life a concerning amount as well
Jason Todd died and came back to life by being dumped in a pit of magical water
Damien Wayne is the only biological child of Bruce and he mentions this a lot
Dick Greyson was the first Robin and the first adoption and i think he and Bruce got in a fight and he left to become Nightwing
Jason Todd stole the Batmobile's wheels and became the second Robin. after he came back to life he became Red Hood
Tim Drake was not an orphan, he just fit Bruce's target demographic and was conveniently close (I mean come on, it's like express shipping) He is also some kind of super-genius. He was the third Robin but became Red Robin/Drake
Stephanie brown(?) was the fourth robin(?), not sure for how long. People get upset when other people forget. I think she's called Spoiler or something
Damien Wayne is the final Robin. Hes this assassins son and im pretty sure Talia dropped him off at the Wayne Manor and said, "I had him through the terrible twos, you get the teen years'
Not entirely sure if Tim runs Wayne enterprises
Brucie wayne is the funniest fucking thing i swear
He's so stupid
not sure is Tim, Dick and Jason follow Bruce's lead and become absolute airheads as well
Alfred is a butler
Alfred has guns
There's someone called Duke and Cass knocking around
The Justice League think Batman works alone
someone in the JL is allergic to the colour yellow
there is a concerning amount of Danny Phantom x DC crossover fics
sames goes for Miraculous
Tim Drake is Bi and for some reason people don't like that
internet is divided on whether of not Batman is a bad dad
#OnlyInGotham is a thing?
Gotham is like an australian NYC
the Riddler is a not funny, less aggressive version of the Joker
apparently Alcatraz and Arkham are different prisons but thats on me
there's a whole group of superheroes out there, each have strong powers and they decide to leave the most dangerous city to the member that has no powers and dresses up as an anthropomorphic bat and runs around the city causing copious amounts of property damage with his children
there is a girl called barbra? Gordon
there is a criminally small amount of content for the girls
for some reason people ship the bat kids together, ike, anytime you have to remind yourself 'its TECHNICALLY not incest is Not Good'
Clark Kent is running round acting as if his reading glasses are the only thing standing between a normal life and CHAOS and the worst thing is that he is right
i am a MCU fan and i was SO sure that Deadpool was MCU but now i'm not so sure
Fandom likes to have this troupe that Bruce wayne doesn't believe batman exists when obviously the superior troupe is that Gotham is pretty sure they are exes
teen titans and young justice are a thing but i cant figure out which robin is who.
Damien Wayne has enough animals to open a zoo
who tf in the batfam are metas?????
Batman has definetely used the Tired Dad voice on villains and the Brucie Wayne voice on the JL
Bruce Wayne has contingency plans if someone discovers his contingency plans
THERES A PLACE CALLED THE FUCKING BAT BURGER???????
it took 2 robins until batman realized that a small child running around in a vest top and speedos was not the greatest idea
Someone needs to tell me, like right now what's going on, where to start and what to read. bc rn im LIVING on chaotic fics

All the Roofs of Uncertainty by Kieron_ODuibhir For all the blood on his hands, Red Hood was never just a villain. And Nightwing never gives up on family, not for good.
(Or: The one where Dick bleeds a lot and Jason argues with everybody.)

(nothing new) under the earth or sky by Kieron_ODuibhir That's what it means, to be a Bat: your secrets have secrets, and those keep secrets of their own.
Even when you are a skeleton in the closet, that doesn't mean you've met all the rest. And Jason never suspected this.
(And you thought no one understood, little Hood.)

Gotham Is A Mother by Kieron_ODuibhir "Hey, Batman. No sudden movements, huh?"

butcherbird, fly away home by e_va Lost Days-era.
Jason's latest teacher is a cruel man, but a boring one. There's no reason for Jason to expect that he will be any different from the rest—just another monster with a skillset that Jason wants to learn. He'll get what he needs and then take out the trash before he goes, as always.
It's all going according to plan until, very suddenly, it isn't.

One of Jason's instructors kidnaps Bruce fucking Wayne. This changes nothing, or at least that's what Jason keeps telling himself.

For Those Who Can't by GoAwayOlivia They don’t understand him at all. There is no setting him off, that’s not the way it works. And he doesn’t go on violent sprees. Jason kills when the situation demands. That’s it. Plain and simple. He doesn’t lose his temper and murder any asshole that pisses him off. Every kill is a decision that he makes, and every decision is carefully weighed and measured with a cool head. He only ever kills because the person deserves to die.

Too Much Fucking Salt by pez_the_platypus A rural housewife instinctively understood the law of quantity into quality. Add a pinch of salt to a soup and it tasted better; add one pinch too many and you ruined the batch. Jason had been in limbo for a year and a half, trusting things would get better even though everything just seemed to be getting worse. It was something small that set him off, but really, it was an accumulation of a lot of things that led to this. He was going to kill the Joker.

Reclaiming Innocence by MurtaghMorzanson Jason Todd was kidnapped at nine-years-old and given two options. Work for his keep, or be forced to to work for his keep.
His life was not pleasant, but Jason was nothing if not a fighter, and dammit if was he going to let the hell around him kill who he was as a person. Or his dreams of growing up and going to college.
Those dreams suddenly came a little more into focus, when his idiot of a pimp accidentally tried to rent him to Bruce Wayne. Poor bastard could have never guessed he was the Batman himself. Heck, not even Jason figured that out, at first. And Batman had practically adopted him.

For reasons he's not interested in asking about, they still want Black Mask in their ranks, and following the disastrous showing of their last hit squad, they've decided that it's a job best suited for actual professionals.

December Monthly Roundup
Here's December's fic round up!
DC/BATMAN
Worlds Saddest Breakfast Club by motleyfam   (gen)7k, Hurt/Comfort, Jason Todd-Centric Following a couple of Very Bad Weeks™ (which may or may not have involved being kidnapped and mildly tortured), Jason decides the best way to cheer himself up is to break into the Manor for a 3 a.m. snack. Turns out he isn’t the only one awake.
Batstream by RandomReader13 (gen), 6k, Bats on social media, Humor   “I want it on record that I think this is a terrible idea and I’m only doing this to mitigate the damage." AKA Red Robin decides it's a great idea to livestream patrol while Batman's off-world. It goes about as well as you'd expect.
cards on the table by wesslan (gen) 67k, WIP, Fortune Teller AU, Tim Drake-Centric  Tim's parents faked their deaths and fled the country years ago, but neglected to take him with them. He spent some time on the streets, and now at 16, he makes a living as a fortune teller, stalking and hustling the shit out of Gotham's elite by telling them eerily accurate fortunes based on the information he gathers about them.  His life is peculiar but he wouldn't change a thing. When he gets booked for the big Wayne Halloween party, however, he finds himself getting all tangled up with the Waynes, and the more fortunes he tells, the tighter the snare becomes.  or: Tim just wanted to scam Gotham's elite, not end up on the Batfamily's watchlist. But it seems they just won't leave him alone..
(a not so) lonesome town by wesslan   (gen), 10k, 2-part series, Sentient Gotham, Jazz music. Two works in which Gotham City is sentient and adopts enough kids to rival Batman himself (Batman is one of them).
Banshee in a Well by liverobinreaction (bugbee) (gen), 43k, Meta Tim, Resurrection Powers   Tim is five years old when he drowns in his parents' pool. He dies quietly, waiting for parents who love him, but will never be there, to realise that something is wrong. They never show up, and he sinks into oblivion.  When he wakes up and claws his way out of the water, the sun has set, and the lights of his house are on. He is cold and wet and his lungs burn.  But most of all, Tim is alone.  (If you die and no-one is there to see it, were you ever alive in the first place?)
HUNGER GAMES
right here in the old therebefore by californianNostalgia (Katniss/Peeta) 14k, Canon Divergence, Ghosts There’s a ghost at the Hanging Tree. Katniss sees him first when she’s six, her hair in braids, the song about the growing gallows fresh in her mind. This changes nothing. This changes some things. (In which Lucy Gray killed Coriolanus at the lake.)
How Rue Became the Mockingjay by aimmyarrowshigh (multi) 5k, Different 74th Victors AU Katniss Everdeen and the girl from Eleven are ruining their best-laid plans – the Capitol’s and the Rebels’. So Caesar, they say. Announce the change. An alternate chronology for The Hunger Games.
CROSSOVERS
Annabeth and the Nine Step Career Plan by feeling_the_aster_9145 (Annabeth/Percy), 76k, PJO x DCU, Annabeth gets Lex Luthor arrested, BAMF Annabeth. Annabeth Chase does not accept limitations. Everyone knows that. If she wants something, no matter how impossible, she will find a way to make it happen. Though, perhaps she will allow Bruce Wayne and his ridiculous paranoia-induced company restrictions a small portion of the credit. Actually… now that she thinks about it, the man may have had a point in his worries. Wayne Technologies does not accept college interns. Annabeth always has a plan B.
A Lesson in Superiority by Nation-Ustria (gen), 96k, WIP, Batfam x Harry Potter, Damian Wayne is Harry Potter, Wizarding Politics “The good news is, he’s not cursed,” Constantine says. “And the bad news?” Dick asks sharply. Constantine squints. “I wouldn’t call it bad news so much as, er, news.” He turns to Damian with something like a grimace. “You’re a wizard, kid.” “...I’m a what?”

One of the things I really want someone to bring back from the Humpries run is the idea of the judge as a villain.
Within the superhero community, Nightwing represents trust. He not only assumes leadership positions and gains the trust of other heroes (especially when compared to his mentor), but he also strives to see the best in people through the way he lives his life. However, it's something he struggles with a lot because the way he was raised and the things he's been through. He yearns to trust and find goodness in others.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media
For instance, in the Judas Contract despite Terra's recent betrayal, Nightwing chooses to trust Joey.
The judge serves as the antithesis to Nightwing's philosophy, undermining the very idea of trust. With the judge, trust becomes a liability. He challenges Nightwing's history of trust and reinforces moments when that philosophy has been called into question.
What happens when the judge makes him doubt his friends, his allies, and his support system? Who is Nightwing without his safety net? This not only creates a compelling narrative point, but it also explains why Nightwing isn't calling on the Titans or his family for help with this problem (something that Taylor's run lacks, to be honest). It introduces more conflict for Dick – he wants to trust his friends and family, yet he's afraid of what the judge might offer them or what he might uncover about them if the judge digs deep enough.
Plus the judge works so well in the setting of Bludhaven. Gotham has so many rouges that just tear it apart morally and look into what the city means. Bludhaven doesn't really have that yet (Dixon's run sets up characters, but none of them mean anything thematically). Why is Bludhaven corrupt? How does this hurt the city? The judge started this by exposing the decisions of giving flooded homes to veterans to save money and the casino owner who covered up the murder of a child. A casino and a city built on the blood of others. Both Nightwing and the judge seek to uncover the cracks in the system where people fall. The judge aims to expose the inherent corruption of humanity and reinforce the notion that humans are inherently self-serving. Dick, on the other hand, aims to catch those who have fallen through the cracks.
The judge is also immensely entertaining to read, with a distinct personality that meshes well with Nightwing. He is both a meticulous planner and an improviser, allowing readers to see different aspects of Nightwing's crime-fighting abilities. Dick will have to engage in intense detective work to track down the judge, especially since the judge's "power" revolves around manipulating people. Nightwing must rely on his understanding of people as a detective, which happens to be one of his strengths. But here's the twist: the judge turns Nightwing's strength into a weakness. He can sway anyone to his side, mess with loyalties, and make it impossible to trust anyone. It becomes impossible to discern who is lying or who has suddenly changed allegiance because the judge flips a coin and presents them with an irresistible offer. Every waking moment becomes a mind game.
To defeat the judge, Nightwing must question everyone around him - he can never allow himself to fully trust anyone. This especially hurts if it comes after he's made connections with the people in Bludhaven. How does he rebuild trust or begin to forgive? How does a betrayal as Nightwing affect those he is friends with as Dick Grayson?
He plays with Dick's guilt complex as well. The judge can see people's deepest desires and when Dick feels guilty for his friends death or crises he couldnt avert I want Dick being promised absolution and it hurting so much but having to refuse it. Having to refuse promises of family when he's missing the circus.
And while his home is Bludhaven he does have the potential to be a heavy hitter. His powers could manipulate many people with power in the dcu and become a huge threat, and his philosphy could apply to many situations. What would the judge do if he went out of Bludhaven? Went against the Titans? The greater hero community? What would he say about say Lex Luthor's brand of corruption or if he set his sight to the governments? His statement has the capability to make a ripple in the DC universe, with Nightwing being his opposite and meeting him every step of the way.
Nightwing doesn't really have an ideological nemesis - but the judge is a perfect fit. He's a foil and an antagonist - doubting what it means for Dick to be a hero, bringing up his guilt and jealousy and all his negative emotions to the forefront. Having to grapple with his worst feelings he forces Dick to confront his darkest emotions head-on. Defeating the judge won't just require physical strength, but emotional sacrifices too.
The judge can throw in some challenge and conflict in Dick's run that is sorely missing right now. Even if he wins against the judge, he still loses. He still needs to have his trust in people doubted, he still feels guilt for everything the judge does. Let Dick rise to the challenge of his name, allow the judge to shake his foundations and come out stronger. When the judge is the Destroyer, deconstructing bludhaven to its rotten core and exposing its cracks, I want to see Dick be The Eternal Rebuilder - ready to catch people, rebuild relationships and forgive others - maybe eventually even himself.

So @captainlordauditor had this in their response to a different post and mention of Marv Wolfman has triggered me. Because I was just thinking about how serial fiction works and how if you're working with serial fiction (comic books, soap operas, movie franchises) one of the things you need to remember is DON'T BREAK THE PLAYGROUND.
Example: In the DC universe (the DC universe of your imagination, not the official DCU of whatever some executive considers canon this week) Metropolis and Gotham are both considered stand-ins for New York City. They feel different, but they're both stories about life in a big US city. This works fine as long as you don't have an actual NYC in your DC universe. Do you prefer to imagine Metropolis as New York? There are a couple of easy places to put Gotham where it's close enough to visit but not so close that you wonder why Superman doesn't take fifteen minutes to clean up Gotham's streets. Want to imagine Gotham in the place of New York? Again, you can imagine Metropolis as close by but not so close that Bruce Wayne could just drive by and kick Lex Luthor in the nuts.
DAILY PLANET ONLINE EDITION HEARTWARMING: WORLD'S ONLY BELOVED BILLIONAIRE TURNS GLOBALLY HATED ASSHOLE INTO SOPRANO
But then Marv Wolfman drops actual real NYC into the DC Official Canon, and now Metropolis and Gotham can't be New York. New York exists. You can't imagine Metropolis as New York even though the writers and artists blatantly intended it to be so (Aerial shots of Metropolis used to straight up copies of the NYC skyline minus a couple of specific buildings). It has to fit into a much more limited space. Same with Gotham. Suddenly you have two fictional cities that are supposed to have populations in the millions that need to fit somewhere around a similarly large real city. It limits the fictional universe and raises questions that don't really help the story.
It also means that Clark Kent could plausibly take an hour to drive to NYC, interview the Titans, and drive back in time for an afternoon meeting with Perry White. Why doesn't Superman fly in and beat the crap out of Deathstroke for annoying Nightwing, Supe's favourite nephew? Batman can take his plane and fly to New York in fifteen minutes. Shouldn't Wayne Enterprises have offices in Manhattan?
Throwing New York into DC didn't add anything new, or solve any story problems. Gotham and Metropolis had all the New York the stories needed. But it limited where readers could imagine their versions of Metropolis or Gotham to be. Marv Wolfman subtracted from the possibilities of the DC universe. And a lot of his writing did that, taking away possibilities that other writers could have used. Crisis On Infinite Earths was rampant vandalism of the entire playground, not just one playset.
And then there's the whole Tara Markov debacle.

Wings Over Gotham Masterlist
A master post for my Wings Over Gotham Batman/DCU AU.
“Eighteen years ago, an earthquake ripped through Gotham City, and in the aftermath, instead of helping, the US government sealed the city under a ‘quarantine’ and left them to die. Two years later, when signs of life and even civilisation were still detectable inside the shattered city, the government sent the military in to reclaim and rehabilitate Gotham. Gotham has not forgotten, and they have not forgiven either.”
An AU where an altered version of No Man’s Land happened while Bruce was in his late teens/early twenties, and Batman was born in the hellish crucible of a trapped city that was left for dead and then violently retaken. Gotham may pretend to run by mainlander rules for the sake of those who would have died otherwise, but under the surface, Bruce, Jim, Leslie, Ivy and Oswald and their pack keep their own council, and look with jaundiced eyes on the mainland.
This story also includes a very non-traditional variation on A/B/O, where alpha and omega are expressed via psychic auras and not biologically, and those same auras allow empathic connection between pack members. (I wanted to play with the ideas of gender and pack from A/B/O, as well as a psychic expansion of the whole ‘pheromone’, ‘sensing/smelling emotions’ idea that is found in some A/B/O, but this story really is not focused on sex or biology, but the aftermath of attempted genocide and the tight-knit and extremely paranoid community that survives it. So I’ve essentially taken and adapted the bits of the trope that interested me for this story, and left the rest?)
18 Stories So Far
Harbour Day (1 chapter, POV Jim Gordon)
Eighteen years after the inciting incident, fifteen years after Gotham has been fully reintegrated after No Man's Land, the federal government would really prefer if Gotham City wouldn't still doggedly memorialise Harbour Day, the lives lost that night, the stubborn, damn near seditious amount of rage the city still feels about it. But Gotham doesn't work by mainlander rules anymore, and while they might choke the words down and avoid actually shooting the asshole in the face, neither Jim nor Bruce nor anyone else of Gotham City's pack will ever let the memory of No Man's Land, of Harbour Day, or anything else that was done to them, die.
Homecoming (2 chapters, POV Jason Todd)
The Lazarus Pit tore your aura to shreds. Or, maybe, dying tore your aura to shreds, and the Pit just didn't help. Jason Todd came back from the dead with all his pack bonds torn and his aura in pieces, driven by rage and emptiness. But Talia made a mistake. She let him too close. Even Jason's shredded mind and aura recognise his brother when he feels him, even when it's a brother neither he nor their father knew he had. So now, Jason is heading home to Gotham, a little brother in tow, to find out how much of his pack is left for him.
Set about a year before Harbour Day, a small prequel of an extremely battered Jason coming home.
The Cowardice of Heroes (3 chapters, POV Clark Kent)
Six months after the quarantine is lifted on No Man's Land, Bruce Wayne appears in polite society for the first time after being trapped for more than two years on the island, to run an auction to raise money for restoration efforts in the city. Speculation and torrid rumours are running wild through both Gotham society and the wider press, and two young reporters for the Daily Planet, one with rather more abilities and secrets than are readily apparent, score an invite to what will undoubtedly be the event of the year.
Another prequel to Harbour Day, this one set almost immediately after No Man's Land. A young Clark Kent witnesses the death, or rather stillbirth, of Brucie Wayne.
Tidal Hope (1 chapter, POV Oswald Cobblepot)
The two years Jason had been dead had been hard on Gotham. Mainlanders stepped lightly around Bruce's howling, grieving aura. But it had been hard on others too. After Jason comes back from the dead, bringing brothers in his wake, another brother comes home to Gotham, at least for a visit. But there's someone else he wants, needs, to talk to. And Oswald has always had the most aggravating fondness for this particular one of Bruce's kids.
Set shortly after Homecoming. Oswald Cobblepot helps shore up an exhausted and half-despairing Dick Grayson.
Here Be Monsters (1 chapter, POV Clark Kent)
Not long after Harbour Day, Clark Kent comes back to Gotham to interview SA Donald Mayers about his hostility towards the event, on the nudging of Leslie Thompkins. He gets an answer. Maybe not the one he expected, but an informative one nonetheless. There are, Mayers says, monsters in Gotham. But a monster to one man, might be a saviour to another. Which way is up in Gotham City? He doesn't find out, but maybe he doesn't need to just yet.
Diplomacy on the Shore (3 chapters, POV Bruce Wayne)
In which Bruce cannot function sanely when it comes to the Joker, Tim is incautious, it all goes tits up, and a new, alien force introduces itself to Gotham. Well. Not alien. Full Earth home-grown. But the difference is perhaps negligible from a Gotham point of view. And Atlantis brings trouble of her own to Gotham's shores, with war between them a very real potential consequence. But trust and diplomacy might win through.
Judgements of the Soulless (2 chapters, POV Jason Todd)
After the mess of the Atlantean almost-invasion, Jason Todd finds a moment to confront his killer. Or. Sort of. Because the Joker isn't exactly in a state to confront anything. And Gotham, her aura, might not be the only reason for that. Bruce and Jason were not the only ones with reasons to interfere with the Joker.
Champions of the Gods (2 chapters, POV Diana of Themyscira)
"Kal might not forgive her for coming. For wrangling an invitation to this Bruce Wayne’s most recent event, an environmentalist gala dedicated to the preservation of native American flora. It was a good cause, and one that Wonder Woman, or rather Princess Diana of Themyscira, was proud to support, but that wasn’t why she was here. And Kal might not forgive her for it."
Diana of Themyscira, made curious and concerned by the depth of her friend's reaction to this strange city, decides to follow in his footsteps and attend a gala at Wayne Manor, as well as overhear conversations that she shouldn't. Diana is a touch more direct, than Clark, however, and winds up speaking to the inhabitants more directly.
Love of the Broken (1 chapter, POV Alfred Pennyworth)
It was an underhanded tactic, to choose an hour of the morning when his family would be muddled and dazed and unlikely to pay attention to him, but in light of recent realisations, Alfred needs to have a conversation, and less ears and hearts to overhear it.
Alfred Pennyworth, the dark Goddess Gotham, and all the ugly, shamed, vicious parts of love and parenthood that you hope your children never have to see, or at least that they'll forgive you for if they do.
Worlds Gently Collide (3 chapters, POV Dick Grayson)
While working with Wally West on a case, a new type of drug that's been popping up in Blüdhaven and Central City, Dick's worlds start to collide a little bit. Old history and new land on his shore, because it turns out this drug is a Gotham drug. And given the type of drug, Oswald Cobblepot, Uncle Penguin, isn't about to let it touch him unscathed. His friendship with Wally is still tentative enough, but the Flash can roll with representatives of the Gotham mob rocking up on Blüdhaven's shore, right?
Or, some of the further consequences of Diplomacy on the Shore hit Blüdhaven, and Wally West gets introduced to Nicoletta, and Gotham's way of doing things. Not that he knows it's Gotham, yet, but still.
Trial and Error (1 chapter, POV Tim Drake)
The fallout of the fallout of the fallout. In the aftermath of Dick's assault and near-rape, the consequences of an older wound come to the fore. Damian is, unfortunately, neither stupid nor unobservant. And Tim has his own reactions to Dick, to Gotham, and to Damian. How many tries do you get before people stop tolerating you? Are you ever damned before you even start? But this is Gotham. So long as everyone's still alive, there's time to try at least once more.
Monsters All (1 chapter, POV Jim Gordon)
Mayers had never figured out where the Council met. He kept looking for Central, big civic buildings. That was where councils met, and didn't they fancy themselves a council? But No Man's Land hadn't had anything like that. They'd met, five territories, five enemies, in a shitty ruined diner outside all their territories. And they still did. To discuss ... one hell of a set of months. Invasion from all quarters. Gotham hasn't felt this exposed since the end of No Man's Land. But Ivy ... Ivy has a different plan for this conversation, and Jim and everyone else are just along for the ride.
The Aura Eaters (4 chapters, POV J’onn J’onzz)
J'onn J'onzz, the last Martian, lies captive in the pod of an alien ship as it makes planetfall. He is spent. Eaten. A husk of a thing. But they have made the smallest of errors, and if nothing else, he will try to be a nuisance before he dies. He will try to warn this world of the horror that comes for them. And, if he has the chance, he will try to fight for it.
An alien invasion comes to Earth. To Gotham. And in the process, a lot of worlds (metaphorically) collide.
The Lights on the Water (1 chapter, POV Jim Gordon)
In the aftermath of the Imperium's invasion, Agent Mayers steps into Jim Gordon's office, wanting to know what the hell ate an army. And, with Gotham revealed whether they wanted to be or not, Jim finally gets a chance to say some things he's wanted to say to this man since No Man's Land. They don't help, probably, but at least he gets a chance to say them.
Rest for the Wicked (1 chapter, POV Bruce Wayne)
In the aftermath of the invasion and his own choices, while his people and his city keep things going around him, Bruce Wayne pulls himself together and gets back up. With the help, and understanding, of someone who knows so very well what he's feeling. First, do no harm. But sometimes time and resources run out, and you have to make a choice. Leslie knows better than anyone, and she has some dark thoughts and secrets of her own, too. But they keep going, because someone has to.
Courage of the Fearful (3 chapters, POV Clark Kent)
After an almost alien invasion in Gotham, and a goddess' response, there are a lot of things Clark Kent should be worried about right now. He probably hasn't chosen the right one. But all questions of morality and even theology aside, Gotham is afraid of him. And he's not sure he can bear that. So. He has a decision to make.
Roots Watered In Blood (2 chapters, POV Pamela Isley)
With Bruce not dead and not taken, this time, despite his best efforts, Ivy and J'onn take a little minute, among the bodies of the invasion, to share grief and guilt and at least some attempted comfort.
Foreign Counsel (1 chapter so far, POV Lois Lane)
If Clark thought that Lois Lane would be content to sit back in Metropolis while he fell on his sword like she hadn't kept the exact same secret for the exact same reason ... well. His head hadn't exactly been in the game the past week or so. She'd probably forgive him. But what he didn't know wouldn't hurt him, and she had her own appointment with Gotham City. With ... Leslie Thompkins, in particular. But more than that. Because Gotham had an entire alien invasion happen, and nobody seemed to give a shit, and Lois hadn't written some of the best pieces of her life trying to bring attention to this city only to let it slide into the sea unremarked now. She had a meeting, and a job to do, and ... maybe more of both than she'd planned for going in.

an extended timeline detailing the life (and crimes) of arlene cara lynns, also known as the supervillain and arsonist for hire, ' FIREFLY '.
please note, latter points are based my personal interpretation of the timeline of the dc universe, particularly those of batman related events. I set the DCU as a whole in the twentieth century, as that time period more befits the storytelling of my personal 'canon'.
1946, ] garfield lynns senior and cara lynns, a married couple from the galway county region of ireland, immigrate to the united states in the mid 1940s seeking a better life. they settle in the city of gotham city, in the state of new jersey.
1947, ] cara lynns gives birth to her and her husband's first child, a son by the name of ████████. the family's life is difficult on account of poverty.
████████'s childhood is a difficult one, on account of financial issues faced by the family as well as frequent ostracization and bullying from peers on account of being ... different. ████████ is teased for being girly, and is not safe from this same prejudice at home from a father who is displeased with his son's behavior. the child's main solace is the relationship with his mother movies. in 1953, a second daughter is born, amanda. the care of amanda is often left to their first child.
tragedy strikes in 1958, with the sudden death of cara due too [ this part of the report appears to be missing ]. some months later, due to worsened financial stability and their father's alcoholism, ████████ and amanda are put into the foster system. details from this time in lynns' life are scarce, but judging by her refusal to speak of it, one can assume it wasn't particularly happy. at age seventeen, lynns meets a pyrotechnician named [ unknown ] who agrees to train lynns in the science of pyrotechnics. she recalls her first day on the job vividly, the smell of smoke and the sound of a radio playing arlene by the tokens.
1966, ] arlene picks up and moves to los angelos, cutting off everyone she knew except her sister to begin a new life.
1970, ] arlene lands her first job on a movie set, after working toward the goal for nearly five years. the film is called super soldiers from outer space, and was critically panned upon its' release, with the pyrotechnic effects agreed to be the only worthwile part of the movie.
1972, ] out comes the first blockbuster of arlene's filmography, a crime drama called gangbuster, starring basil karlo. the actor would go on to become one of arlene's closest friends, one that would remain until some months before the dramatic end of karlo's career in 1977.
arlene's early adult life is mostly swamped by her career. though never a household name (such luxuries were rarely afforded to those lower on the pecking order of film production), arlene is decently well known within hollywood itself, as well as the music industry due to the rising popularity of using pyrotechnics in concerts. her personal life is marked by several sexual liasons and short term relationships, the most significant with famous rockstar cassidy devito. the relationship was highly publicized on account of critic and fan reaction to miss devito being involved with another woman. the relationship only last 5 months.
1979, ] arlene is the resident pyrotechnician on the set of the punisher, an action filmed based on a popular comic book character. the movie is canned after a pyrotechnic accident leaves its' lead actress with severe burns that put an early end to her budding career. arlene tells the director tobey dixon she was merely following his direction, and after asking what would be done with the footage of the incident, arlene is fired and dixon swears that lynns is finished in the business.
1980, ] after months of projects letting her go or not calling her back, arlene discovers the reason for her sudden unemployment. some secrets can't stay buried no matter how hard you try. furious, hurt, and seeing her life as she knew it over, arlene murders tobey dixon with a car bomb.
but the end of tobey dixon was a new beginning for arlene. the same night he died, arlene met drury walker in my alibi, a bar in her hometown of gotham city. the two quickly hit it off, so to speak, arlene is pulled into the colorful world of gotham city supervillainy, a world that before only existed to her in the peripheral and the silver screen, as firefly. like a moth to a flame, walker finds more in lynns then just a partner to up his cred in the underworld.
the following months the gotham gazette is plagued with tales of serial arsonists and their frequent skirmishes with batgirl, a new vigilante riffing off the dynamic duo. killer moth and firefly's partnership comes to a head when firefly sets the gcpd building a ablaze, and the duo are stopped by batgirl, and sent to arkham asylum. the following years after arlene's 'big break', are fairly boring and marked mostly by arkham stints and the occasional arson for profit or pleasure.
1990, ] her next significant plot comes after a mass arkham breakout that was orchestrated by the criminal bane as apart of his plan to break the bat. arlene burns down a number of locations associated with her time in the foster system, as revealed by her sister amanda when she is questioned by police followed by an anonymous tip provided by robin.
1991, ] some weeks before gotham is declared a no man's land, arlene is badly injuried in an explosion caused by a cop shooting her fuel tank after she was hired to cause a scene at a chemical factory. arlene spent the duration of no man's land bedridden, tended too by drury as they laid low while gotham fell apart.
1993, ] after a city wide gang war that puts the black mask into power as a major crime boss in gotham, firefly and various other criminals are forced to work under sionis under threat of death from bombs implanted in their necks.
1994, ] arlene burns the bomb implanted in her neck by sionis out of her body, and uses the technology to go on a serial killing spree across gotham by creating an implantable device that causes the affected to spontaneously combust when triggered. this plot is stopped by batman and commissioner gordon and resulted in the deaths of nine people and injuries in an additional eleven.
1995, ] arlene is conscripted into the suicide squad. not wanting to be under anyone's thumb, she fakes her own death on a mission the squad is sent on to kill the joker and frees herself from the implanted bomb the same way she freed herself of the one sionis put in her.
...which brings us to the present day, in the year 1997. firefly works more as a mercenary then a supervillain -- mostly on account of having already torched everything that would be a target in her own mind -- and spends her time between arkham asylum and her life as firefly.

How exactly was Jon Kent’s introduction handled? Did Clark essentially just bring him out like “hey guys, here’s my 10 year old son I haven’t told you about” ?
If you mean canonically in the comics….like with many, MANY things. It’s complicated but I’ll give it my best
See in 2015, during the height of the New 52 era, was the event comic Convergence. In this one, Brainiac, who basically is revealed as techno organic eldritch abomination in a dimension known as the Vanishing Point, has kept various versions of Gotham and Metropolis from all through the DC multiverse’s histories in bottles right before the Flashpoint reboot altered everything.
One of these cities was the Pre-Flashpoint/Post-Crisis Metropolis containing their Clark and a pregnant Lois Lane. In their tie in issue, after an encounter with the flashpoint Superman and Batman aka Thomas Wayne, Lois successfully gives birth to Jon.
At the end of the event itself, Pre Flashpoint Clark, Pre Flashpoint Barry Allen, Parallax!Hal Jordan and Pre Crisis Kara meet up with the main leads of the event (The survivors of Post Flashpoint Earth 2) to encounter Brainiac who as gratitude for rescuing him from the villains of said event, decides to return every city back to their proper place. However, the Original Crisis was a point even he found too strong to overwrite so those four heroes plus Lois and baby Jon are sent across time and space to take down the Anti Monitor prematurely and shortly afterwards, incorporated into the New 52 DCU
In particular, for Lois, Clark and Jon, they landed on the day the New 52 Justice League, with their own Superman in tow, was first formed. They got themselves temporary new identities as the Whites and for the in universe ten years lived a low profile yet relatively quiet life
It wasn’t until Jon was about 9 1/2 after a run in with Intergang that not only did he discover his own superpowers but also that indeed Clark was a second yet strangely older Superman. These were two things that surprisingly neither Lois and Clark were anticipating to kick in so quickly
A few months later, the New 52 Superman seemingly perished during a final battle against a rouge government experiment in trying to replicate his powers though not before him and the rest of the Trinity meet with Pre Flashpoint Clark and Lois. It’s after this and Lex Luthor making a claim as the next Superman that Clark decides to switch out his secret black and silver suit, shave his beard and don the red and blue once more. After a team to between the two to take down a resurgent Doomsday, Clark gets to work earning the people of New 52 Earth trust as a new Superman
Things come a head though when Jon starts developing heat vision as the Kents move to a small town community not too far from Metropolis called Hamilton County. It’s here Clark makes a choice to train Jon with those powers, by first a small mission to rescue a trapped submarine being attacked by a mind controlled giant squid monster. As Clark finds the device used to control said monster, he has Jon fire his red eye beams to destroy it but Jon is very reluctant to do so, afraid to hurt his Dad. But Clark is reassuring all the way through and Jon fires, first a big Kamehameha style beam before a Clark is able to instruct him to shrink it down to a small laser which surely does the trick
It’s here where Jon reveals he had purchased his trademark S logo sweatshirt.
After this and a massive battle between the two and a resurgent Eradicator which not only had them cause damage to Batman’s Moon Cave but also was shown to most of the world the presence of a younger Kryptonian, finally Clark decides to properly introduce Jon S. Kent to his Justice League allies as a brand new Superboy
For a final note, the Kents then have a run in with long time reality warping antagonist Mr Mxyzptlk which sees a brief return of the New 52 versions of Lois and Clark, revealing that indeed, the entity responsible for the New 52 in the first place actually had split Lois and Clark’s souls of sorts into two halves, the Pre Flashpoint side having the experience and love for each other yet not their history on the mainline DCU as their Post Flashpoint versions of themselves. Thanks to Jon’s presence, the two halves of the Kents merged with each other, becoming whole once more and now they no longer have to take on new identities as the Whites, they are the Kents. Plain and simple
