Donnie’s Comfort Shell™

This is a DTIYS made for the Autism Swag Summit!! I wanted to draw a personal headcanon I have for Donnie, and figured it would be fun to make it a DTIYS of sorts :))

Donnie’s Comfort Shell™ is an older model of his battle shell, refurbished at Mikey’s request into something not intended for battle. Rather, its function is comfortability, being specifically designed so it can be worn for long hours on end without causing any harm to Donnie’s spine (while being entirely sensory-friendly), albeit at the cost of special gadgets and extra defences. Since it wasn’t meant to take hits or anything anyways, Donnie let Mikey (with help from Raph and Leo) assist in decorating it, hence why it’s brightly coloured and covered in doodles and stickers! 

For the DTIYS part, anyone is welcome to draw it and change how the shell looks! Add your own headcanons as pride flag stickers!! Change up the colours or the doodles in whatever way!! As long as it’s Donnie with some version of the Comfort Shell™ it’s good enough for me :D

How can you be aro/ace and bi?

Not trying to be rude btw just curious

ohh yess good question. and there are actually multiple answers.

so the definition of aroace is little to no romantic or sexual attraction. so you can be bi with that little attraction.

there are also a label oriented aroace which is where someone doesnt experience ANY romantic or sexual attraction but experiences other attraction that is significant enough to label. so you can label yourself as bi oriented, lesbian oriented, gay oriented, pan oriented, etc.

aroace is an umbrella term for anyone under the spectrum of aroace. so demiromantic/demisexual, grayromantic/graysexual, etc. if you fall under the spectrum of aroace you can use the label aroace. (only if u are on both spectrums though!) so you can be bi and demiromantic/demisexual, etc

Anyone else with this aroace experience?

I know the aroace community is not a monolith. I know we all have very diverse experiences. But I was thinking about how so many aroace folks had the "I think I'm bi or pan" moment because they felt the same/nothing for all genders.

I had the "I think I'm bi" moment too. But for me it was because I DID feel something for different genders. I felt incredibly strong tertiary attraction to boys and girls (this was 10 years ago and I was queer-sheltered so I had yet to meet an out nonbinary person), and bi felt like the right descriptor. I didn't have to "fake" crushes like so many aroaces. I just confused my squishes for crushes and blended in.

Even after I realized I'm aromantic asexual, bi still feels part of my identity. I relate to a lot of the bi experience. I feel strongly for several different genders, but I'm attracted to them differently. The way I'm attracted to guys is totally different than how I'm attracted to girls and nonbinary folks.

This is why the term "bi-oriented aroace" means so much to me. It describes my experiences with tertiary attraction perfectly.

exclusionists really love to tell other queer people to die bc of [checks notes] they dont fact check and just believe that bi lesbian has been coined (it hasnt) and the coiner was a terf (it wasnt) just bc they heard it from other exclusionists. and for some fucking reason believe that bi lesbian is a terf term despite a ton of the other people telling me to kill myself over being a bi lesbian have also been terfs.

I’ve been toying with the idea that I’m bi or pan oriented aroace. I’ve always known I experience aesthetic attraction - it’s how it took me so long to realise I’m asexual because I was confusing it with sexual attraction. I know it’s to multiple genders but also I don’t think gender really matters because I don’t want anything to come of this attraction, I just appreciate that people are pretty. It doesn’t really seem to be people I know in my life though, usually just celebrities. I’ve been reading the definition online and it always says ‘significant tertiary attraction’ and the word ‘significant’ is confusing to me because that is a subjective word. Any oriented aroaces relate?

Edit : sorry for portraying the stereotypical blue equal masc, and fem equals pink thing on these. The original bi flags meanings aren’t defined like that (bi flag meaning) , I was already aware of the meanings as I made these but I had the intention of these flags having separate meanings, different from the original I didn’t really think too hard on the colors tbh I just really wanted to stick to the same aesthetic of the bi flag but with these versions having symbols on them too show an attraction preference.

This is probably my largest pride flag piece at three feat by three feat, featuring nearly eighty pride flags with Baker’s 2017 pride flag in the middle. The 2017 flag has an extra stripe of lavender to signify the diversity of our community as well as the eight original stripes Gilbert Baker put together in the first place.

Oh boy, if we're talking about sexuality headcanon I wanna get in on this! Personally, I think Vox is actually also aroace, but!!!! In a wildly incomprehensible way for Alastor! They bond briefly over how ridiculous allo views on relationships are, both of them think they're on the same page. Vox doesn't think attraction is a thing, sex is just a fun activity and he's absolutely down for it at any time, especially with his friends, and romance + dating are just an act you put on to feel close to people*. Meanwhile, Alastor is sex and romance repulsed. But like I said, they made fun of allos together, so Alastor thinks they're on the same page. They are not. They are not even reading out of the same book. The absolute betrayal Al feels when he realizes this... RIP to their friendship

Every time I explain my queerness- for lack of a better word I feel like that one audio that's just some kid saying they're like a million things even though half of them contradict each other. Like yes I'm both aroace & bi. & it's not that I actually feel romantic attraction but want the label aromantic it's just that I want to be in a relationship or a qpr even tho I've never felt romantic attraction & probably never will. & ik that it shouldn't be that hard to explain to people but I hate doing it cuz I always feel cringe.
