DPXDC Prompt #148
Danny didn’t want to go to the gala but since all of his friends were busy with their own soulmates there wasn’t much he could argue. Vlad invited his family and him to a gala out in Gotham and his parents jumped at the opportunity to show their madness with some of the elite. Danny couldn’t wait to get home, yes he knew he had a soulmate but he wasn’t sure if he wanted to pursue them or not.
They could feel each other’s emotions and his soulmate was an angry person. Danny’s whole life his soulmate acted mad and strangely prideful. But those didn’t compare to his fear, they seemed to have gotten themselves in trouble in the past and maybe even had a few close encounters with death. They also seemed to bottle feelings up from what he could tell his soulmate might not have had the best childhood but Danny couldn’t really say much on that.
Damian knew his soulmate was kind of soft. They seemed to get annoyed at his family typical for a teen. Of all the things he noted about him his dislike of Christmas was a little odd but not everyone has to like the holidays he supposed. His mother Talia imparted on him that he should protect his soulmate with his life when he finds him so he was very determined to find them. Of course galas we’re the best place to look so he desperately asked every time his father hosted one.

An AU of the Rejected Soulmate AU where Robin gets the drop on Phantom in a warehouse and they fight. Robin hits Phantom hard enough to send him crashing into a bunch of wooden crates, thus breaking them.
The fight continues until Phantom calls for a time out and starts listening carefully. Damian hisses out that he will not be tricked into letting his guard down. Danny shushes him again and thats when they hear it.
A tiny desperate mew.
They both race over to the broken crates and begin carefully digging through the rubble as to not harm the tiny kittens further.
Needless to say they bond over caring for the injured kittens and co parent suprisingly well. Damian ends up stealing Tim's soulmate and the batfam only find out about this after the catch Damian going on a date with Tim's (now ex) stalker

“am i pretty?”
his eyelashes fluttered quickly as he poked fun of the people on the television, his head turned in your direction with pucker lips.
a giggle was held back “the prettiest.”
his head got closer and closer to you, hands encircling your waist before stopping with his lips over what felt like millimeters over yours.
“nah sweetheart,” a quick pause “you are” a hot breath escaped, a kiss (you thought) anticipated but instead met by his tongue dragged across your cheek.
“jason todd!” the squeal from your lips and the squirming under his grasp formed a deep rupture of laughter from his throat and a tighter hold on your frame as you huffed “you aren’t the prettiest anymore.”
the infamous anti-hero winked in your direction as he cuddled against your frustrated person “love ya too baby”

Sweetheart- Chapter 1
Summary: Jason Todd finds himself in a Groundhog Day situation and it won't stop until he finds his soulmate who's going through the exact same situation. But will you two stop being idiots long enough to too see what's in front of you? Not even the author knows...
Reader and Jason Todd have to repeat the same day until they realise they're soulmates, but once they do so, a soulmate mark will appear and their lives continue
Disclaimer: I know very little of the DC Universe (having never watched/read any of the movies/comics...) so please feel free to correct me on shit, but again, I took liberties with the ages and jobs (like, I know the majority of the Wayne kids aren't high school age and Bruce would never hand his job off, but I will stab canon until the pages of this fanfic run red with its blood)

Principal Gordon sighed and leaned back in his chair. “What is it now, Todd?”
Jason shrugged. “I have absolutely no idea. Mr. Queen just doesn’t like me.”
“Or is it that you were being disruptive in his class and harassing Ms. L/n?” Principal Gordon raised a brow.
Jason chuckled and crossed his arms. “Harassing her? I wouldn’t call it harassing. Just some harmless flirting.”
“Mr. Queen said you were throwing crumpled pieces of paper at her that had inappropriate pick-up lines written on them,” Principal Gordon said. “You also disturbed Mr. Allen and Ms. Grace?”
“Bart and Artemis are exaggerating,” Jason’s leather jacket hung around him and he shoved his hands in the pockets. “Just some friendly banter. They’re too eager to rat me out. I would take their words with a grain of salt.”
Principal Gordon rubbed his eyes. He was counting down the days until Jason either graduated or dropped out- whichever came first. “Mr. Todd, this has been the… what? Fourth time you’ve been in my office this semester?”
“Fifth, if you count the day you were out sick and Mr. James had to deal with me,” Jason added. Principal Gordon hummed and nodded in agreement.
“You’re a good kid and you know how I know that?”
“‘Cause of my dad and my brothers and sister?” Jason rolled his eyes.
“No,” Principal Gordon shook his head and he softly smiled. “Because of your grades,” he pushed Jason’s transcript towards the boy. It showed near-perfect marks. “And because of your behaviour- excluding things like this.” Jason looked down at the floor and scuffed his shoe on the tile. “It’s not just Mr. Wayne who’s convinced you’re a good kid. It’s Mr. Kent and Ms. Prince, too. You help your siblings and are extremely protective of them. You have compassion and loyalty, Jason. You simply exhibit them in different ways.”
“Yeah, uh, thanks, Gordon.” Jason stood and avoided the principal’s stare. “Now, if you don’t mind, the bell’s about to ring and I don’t wanna miss any more education than I need to. You know me- need to fill up this big brain with as much information as I can!”
Principal Gordon huffed, his moustache twitching, but waved him away. Jason grinned, gave him a salute, and dashed out of the office, slinging his backpack over a shoulder. Once he was out of the door, he let the smile drop, blowing a piece of hair out of his face. Jason’s eyes flickered to the clock, and on cue, the bells sang throughout the school. Automatically, doors opened and the halls were filled. Jason weaved and pushed through the students, intent on locating one person.
“How was ol’ Gordon?” An arm was slung around his shoulder and Jason groaned and pushed Dick off.
“How’d you find out?”
“Cass texted the group chat.” Jason dug out his phone and swore at the numerous messages he found waiting for him. Dick and Cass were gleeful, Damian was being a little shit, Tim hadn’t said anything, and Alfred and Bruce were overwhelmingly disappointed in him.
Jason shoved the phone back in his pocket, ignoring the messages, and scanned the halls.
“Idiot little brother,” Dick dramatically sighed, hooking an arm around Jason again. “But I don’t know if you’re more stupid in academics or romance.”
“Can you shut the hell up?” Jason asked, punching Dick in the torso. He rounded the corner and there you were. “Cass! Can you not rat me out next time?” He directed his attention to his sister who was leaning by your locker.
“Jason! Can you not interrupt my conversation next time?” Cass retorted, pushing off the lockers. You shot Jason a look of disgustment and he winked back.
“Hey, sweetheart,” Jason saddled up next to you. “Did’ya like my notes?”
“Did’ya like the principal’s office?” you shot back. “They might as well give you your own chair from how much time you spend there. What’re you clocking in? Four hours a day? Wouldn’t you say that deserves some compensation?”
“You would think so,” Jason said. “But it turns out I need to join the union first.” You closed your locker and started off towards your next class. Jason wrestled your books from you and you begrudgingly let him. “What’s that?” His voice lowered and his eyes fixated on a point on your arm.
“Hmm? Oh, the doctor had to draw some blood a couple days ago. They couldn’t find the vein right away so it left a bruise.”
“No one touched you, yeah?” He lifted a brow and you shook your head in reassurance. “Good.” He shifted your books to one arm and his muscles flexed. Not that you were looking. He ran a finger over the bruise. “You know you could tell me?” Cass rolled her eyes to Dick who snickered.
“I know, Jason. You’ve been adamant about that. Now, if you could give me back my necessary textbooks, I would love to go to Science.”
“Chivalry isn’t dead, sweetheart. Now where’s your desk?”
“Mr. Todd,” Mr. Kent exhaled as Jason entered the classroom. “Didn’t you already grace me with your presence today? What are you doing back?”
“Good to see you too, Mr. Kent!” Jason grinned. “Just dropping off my girl and then I’ll be outta your hair.”
“Not your girl,” you corrected, though you knew it was futile.
“If you’re not dating anyone, you’re my girl,” Jason shot back. “And as I don’t see a soulmate brand on your wrist, you’re still mine.”
“Hello Ms. L/n,” Mr. Kent tried to hide a smile at the antics of his students.
You sat down at your desk and greeted your neighbour, Roy. “Hello Y/n. Jaybird… ” Roy gave a shit-eating grin to his friend. “How was Gordon?”
“You asshole,” Jason griped. A warning bell rang and he slowly started backing up towards the door. “Goodbye, sweetheart. I’ll see you in English.” You hummed noncommittally in reply. “Goodbye, shitface!” he called to Roy, throwing up his favourite finger. Roy blew him a kiss.
“He is whipped.” Your desk partner whistled.
“No, he’s not,” you said. “I don’t know what we are, but I’m surprised he even looks at me, and certainly not in a romantic way.”
“Have you seen him hold anyone else’s stuff? That boy would burn the entire school down if it meant your safety.”
“Have you seen him with his girlfriends? Plural.” You opened your notebook as Mr. Kent started his science speech.
“And when was the last time he had a girlfriend?” Roy rested an elbow on the desk, completely ignoring the teacher.
“Why the fuck are we still talking about this? Science and stuff are more critical than my non-existent relationships.”
“Y/n, I think your love life will always be the single-handedly most important thing to me ever,” Roy said honestly.
“Pity that there’s nothing to be interested in.”
“You realise you inadvertently belittled yourself.”
“Yes, Roy, I’m aware.”
------
Jason woke up to screaming and shouts. Another ordinary day. “Jason! Get up!” Tim banged on the door. “You’re gonna be late!” Jason groaned and covered his head with his pillow.
The door flew open and Cass waltzed in. “I think I left my book in here last night.” She started rummaging around the nightstand.
“Get out!”
“Come on, you’ll be late to see Y/n!” Dick called from the doorway before running off to shower.
Jason paused. Dick was right. He needed to get up so he could meet you at the school doors. Not that you wanted to meet him, but he was always there anyway.
“Oh, there he is,” Cassandra laughed. “That lovesick fool.”
“Ah, shut up. What’s for breakfast?” Jason slowly stood, stretching his sore muscles. He had spent last night at the gym in front of the punching bag. The rest of his siblings had eventually joined him in the Wayne gym. Damian had challenged him to a sparring match in which Damian and Tim teamed up on him and barely managed to win. He was going easy on them.
“Albert made pancakes.”
“Sweet,” Jason tugged on his clothes and signature leather jacket. “Do you ever find it weird that Alfred is the owner of a multimillion dollar company and he still makes us pancakes?”
“Do you ever find it weird that Bruce is the economics teacher at our school and you still wind up in Gordon’s office every other day?” Cass found her book and started out of the room. Jason followed after her.
“Do you ever find it weird,” Damian called from the bathroom, “that Dad quit his job to start teaching the youth of Gotham City and handed his company over to his butler after I was born? Clearly, we know who the favourite is.”
“Do you ever find it weird that you guys are interrupting my shower?!” Dick stuck his head out of said shower, motioning for Damian to close the door.
“Do you ever find it weird that in a house of idiots,” Tim hopped down the stairs. “I’m able to stay sane?”
“Dude, same.” Cass fistbumped Tim and they shared a secret handshake.
When the family finally arrived at Gotham High, after Jason’s bacon being stolen by Damian, Tim absent on account of before-school extracurriculars, and Alfred flipping pancakes while sporting an apron over his suit, Jason couldn’t help but scan the crowd. It was a routine he had grown accustomed to.
You were stepping off the bus, talking to Artemis and Kori. “Go on, loverboy,” Dick snickered.
“Fuck you,” was his reply.
“Hey, Todd,” Cass called. “When we get back home, I’m gonna re-dye your hair. You’re losing the white streak.”
Jason groaned. “Fine,” he grumbled, biting back a remark that it wasn’t dyed. He had lost that battle a long time ago.
“What’re you reading today, L/n?” He snatched your backpack away from you, intent on keeping his chivalrous streak alive.
“The Fault In Our Stars, a reread,” you said.
“You don’t have to prove it to me, doll,” Jason said.
You took a breath at the new nickname, but were quick to bite back. “Prove it? I don’t know what you mean.”
“You don’t need to tell me you’ve read it before to prove you’re smart. You’re telling me it’s a reread cause you’re showing that you could be reading harder, more complex books but you “settled” for this one. But don’t worry, doll, I know you’re smart. Might even have to get you to tutor me.”
“I’ve seen your grades, Jason. You don’t need a tutor.”
“How sweet,” Jason placed a hand over his heart, pretending to swoon. “The Lady L/n thinks me as smart as she.”
“I never said you’re as smart as me,” you corrected.
“Care to make a little wager, then?” Jason held open the school door for you. Artemis rolled her eyes when he let it swing shut after you and she pulled it back open for her and Kori.
“No,” you deadpanned. “Because I know whatever idea you have concocting in that little brain of yours will be degrading.” You paused at your locker, tugging your bag back. You said your goodbyes to Artemis and Kori, promising to see them later without a parasite named Jason clinging to you.
“Get a better score on the English test today,” Jason proposed. “And I’ll leave you alone if you ask me to. But if I get a higher score, I get to call you my girl.”
“Absolutely not.” You shut him down but couldn’t help your competitive spirit spark up. “However,” you swung the locker closed and you could see a glimmer alight in Jason’s eyes. “If you win, I will allow you to take me on a date.” Jason’s lips parted and his tongue shot out to moisten them. His head tilted up, eyes still locked on yours. “Maybe you’ll finally get over your obsession with me.” Your throat closed up at the prospect. Not that you would ever admit it, but you liked the attention Jason was giving you. He made you feel special. He made you feel loved.
“Obsession?” Jason whispered. He adjusted his jacket, fiddling with the zipper. “Is that what- you know what, yeah.” His supposed confidence returned. “But I’d be worried, Y/n. I’m not sure I’d be able to get rid of you if you go on a date with me.”
Rid of you. “Yeah, sure. And this is on the likelihood you’ll get a better score than me in English? That is where I thrive, Todd.”
“Same, actually.” Jason smirked. “It’s my highest grade.”
“Then let the best student win.” You stuck out your hand and Jason shook it, ignoring the warmth in his chest he got from touching you.
“I will.”
“Funny. I was just about to say that.”
Jason brushed a hand over your bruise. “When you’re done with Fault in our Stars, have you read The Count of Monte Cristo?”
“No. Would you recommend it?”
“Highly.”
You hummed and grabbed his hand to pull him out of the way of a group of theatre kids. “I’ve always wanted to go to Monte Cristo.”
“Sweetheart, that’s an expensive first date,” Jason joked, gripping your hand tighter when you tried to tug away.
“Eh, maybe as a fifth date.” Jason felt his face ignite at your words. He would kill for the prospect of a fifth date with you.
“I have to ace this test, first and foremost.”
“An impossible feat.” You elbowed the boy in the side before winking at him and darting into your first class. You collapsed into your desk, your smug demeanour collapsing too. When was the last time you had openly flirted with someone?
“I can’t wait to plan the wedding!” Kori squealed. You groaned loudly in response.
Outside the classroom, Jason couldn’t wipe the smile from his face. “You finally got an in.” Tim appeared out of nowhere and clapped him on the back. “I never thought I’d live to see the day.”
Jason couldn’t find an insult to throw back, something that in itself spoke volumes. “How was Coding Club?”
Tim frowned. Did Jason ever ask about his extracurriculars? “It was good…” he said slowly. “We’re designing this robot to-” he started rambling as Jason sauntered down the hall, looking as if he’d won the lottery. And he hadn’t even taken the test yet.
------
Jason glanced over at you. You had finished the test a couple minutes ago and were now reclined in your desk, copy of The Fault in our Stars propped up and Jason could almost trace the crease between your brows at your concentration. He shook his head to clear the distracting thoughts and tried to focus back on the test.
Explain the significance of John Proctor proclaiming, “God is dead!” and then reciting prayers before his execution.
 Jason started scribbling out a reply and was soon caught up in his response.
Ms. Prince surveyed her students closely, looking for any sign of cheating. Her eyes locked on you. Ms. Prince always had a soft spot for you. You communicated and spoke up in class and definitely weren’t afraid to advocate for your beliefs. But she also noticed how you and Jason tested and battled each other. She noticed how the two of you willed each other to be better. You kept each other on your toes. Maybe that was one of the reasons she sat you next to each other. Maybe she could see the harbouring feelings. Maybe she just wanted to see some drama during the 160+ days she was stuck in school.
Jason snickered to himself and Ms. Prince silently prayed to her gods that he kept his responses appropriate. She also prayed that you and Jason would figure out your feelings before the end of the school year. She wasn’t going to sit through your countless arguments and flirtatious comments for nothing.
The class eventually came to an end and Ms. Prince announced, “the scores will be released by nine o’clock tonight. Good job and good luck.”
Jason swept out of the room, giving you a wink akin to the one he received earlier that day.
“He’s an annoying little bitch,” Cass muttered.
“I wasn’t gonna say anything, ‘cause he’s your brother, but yeah,” you agreed. “Incredibly cocky and self-absorbed.”
“Amen,” she slapped you a high-five before bidding you goodbye. Soon, one sibling was replaced by another and Damian ran up to you.
“Y/n!” he crowed, latching himself to your arm. “How’ve you been? Good? Good. Listen, do a guy a favour, will you? I’ve been with you this entire time.”
“What the hell did you do and am I going to get in trouble for it?” you hissed, but automatically pulled him on the inside of you, instinctively shielding him from any oncoming danger.
“Nothing, nothing,” Damian promised. He had learned early on that the answer to everything was deny, deny, deny. “But Dad may be finding glitter in his desk drawer right about now.”
“Damian,” you groaned. “That’s a fantastic prank and I love you for it, but your Dad is not the type of person who wants glitter in their files. Next time get Mr. Kent.”
“Ooh, good tip.” The boy let out a laugh that sounded a bit too evil for your taste and you refrained from smacking him upside the head.
“Damian Wayne!” A shout came down the hall.
“Shit,” Damian clutched your arm. “Remember, I’ve been with you the entire time.”
“I know the drill,” you rolled your eyes. “I’ve been graced with your presence far too much to not know how to act.”
Damian paused and studied you. You quizzically stared back. “I like you,” the freshman suddenly decided.
“Thanks? I thought that was already established.”
“I can see why Jason adores you.”
“Excuse me?!”
“Oh, this is my class!” Damian beamed. “Gotta go before Dad catches me! Bye, Y/n!”
“Bye? But what do you mean-” The boy ran away before you could demand answers.
“Y/n?” You turned around to find Mr. Wayne in front of you. “Do you happen to know where my youngest went?”
“Your youngest? As in Damian? He was with me the entire passing period, but just went off to his next class.” The lie came easily.
Mr. Wayne sighed and ran a hand down his face. “You’re lucky I like you so much, Y/n. If you weren’t friends with my children, I would have half a mind to put you in detention.”
“But you like me,” you reminded him, smiling widely. “So… you won’t.”
“As long as you accept my invitation to join us for dinner tonight,” Mr. Wayne negotiated. “It’s been too long since Alfred fed you and he’s starting to worry that Jason scared you off.”
“I assure you, Mr. Wayne, Jason hasn’t done anything of the sort. And yes, I would be happy to join your family for dinner.”
“Good,” Mr. Wayne said. “Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to track down my spawn.”
“Bye, Mr. Wayne!” You managed the rest of the day without any more surprises from the Wayne family. In History, Mr. Curry was clearly nursing a hangover, so he put on the “historical” movie Night at the Museum. During Gym, Mr. Allen (Bart’s father, a fact that the boy always lorded over you for no apparent reason) was adamant on playing baseball. Luckily, Kori and Bart were both on your team, so with the combined speed-Bart- and strength- Kori (you were always shocked at how much muscle she packed under her bubbly personality)- your team won by a wide margin. Other than the bet with Jason, it had been a normal day, one you quickly wrote off in the books. Ms. Quinn, the librarian, bid you an enthusiastic goodbye at the end of the day.
“Hey, Alfred,” you said as you entered the Wayne Manor.
“Miss. Y/n!” Alfred smothered his smile. “It’s a pleasure to see you again. How’ve you been, my dear?”
“I’ve been good. And you? How are things at Wayne Enterprises?”
“Mr. Wayne left the company in good condition, albeit I’ve been making some changes with staffing and schedules. Our stocks have been rising and I can safely say that the company is in good hands.”
“That’s fantastic, Alfred. Though I can’t say I’m surprised. After running this household, running a company can’t be too hard.”
Alfred was about to retort when Damian ran up to you. “Y/n! Thank god you’re here! I need help with my homework.”
“You literally have four older siblings and a teacher as a parent. I don’t think you need me,” you said.
“But, Y/n!” Damian whined and you questioned if he was a freshman, giving how he was acting like a kindergartner. “You’re my favourite!”
“I can’t argue with that,” you conceded. “What do you need help with?”
“Science! Dr. Isley is kicking my ass.” Alfred shot the boy a glare and Damian corrected, “She does not like me.”
“Isn’t Tim better at Science? Or Cass?” After some debate, you finally gave in to the boy’s pleads. “How can I help?” Damian slumped down at the kitchen table which was already occupied by Dick and Tim. You figured that Cass was tucked in her room, independently doing her homework, and you pushed the thought of Jason out of your mind.
“I don’t know… just, help!” He opened his folder and extracted a worksheet filled with equations on density and force. You grimaced. You hadn’t done this in two years and wondered if you could coax the information out of the darkest depths of your mind. You had thrown the equations in the literal and metaphorical trash the second you stepped out of that class.
You started walking Damian through the questions, simultaneously working on your Maths homework and frequently checking your email to see if your English score had been released.
“Look what the cat dragged in,” a smooth voice sang in your ear. You elbowed Jason in the gut and he let out a groan.
“More like, look what your brother dragged in.”
“The scores just came out, sweetheart,” Jason smirked. “Shall we see who’s the victor?”  Cass groaned as she walked in, heading for the snack cabinet.
“No! I need help from my future sister-in-law!” Damian cried. Jason turned red and looked away. Dick laughed loudly and even Tim pressed his lips together to stop a laugh.
“Damn right,” You held up your hand and Cass slapped it. “Cass and I are getting married and none of you are invited to the wedding. Except Alfred, of course.”
“Of course,” Cass agreed.
“Just show me your score,” Jason tried to return to the topic at hand.
“Fine,” you pulled up your email, a glistening new message from Ms. Prince in your inbox. Oddly enough, you didn’t feel nervous. You would be fine with either outcome, knowing you would never tell Jason to leave you alone. But he didn’t know that. Jason’s nerves were haywire, worried that the second you got your scores, you would tell him to piss off. “What’d you get?”
“A 97, but technically a 92.” Jason proudly said. “I got extra credit.”
“Ms. Prince doesn’t give out extra credit!” you exclaimed. “What the hell?!”
“If you ask incredibly nicely and tell her it's for a good cause,” Jason said. “Then yes, she does.”
“You fucking told her about our bet, didn’t you.”
“Why yes, yes I did.” Jason looked incredibly proud of himself and you wanted nothing more than to wipe that cocky simper off his face.
“What bet?” Mr. Wayne strutted into the room.
“Nothing,” both you and Jason answered at the same time Dick launched into an explanation of the wager. Mr. Wayne side-eyed both you and his son before peeking at Alfred. Alfred gave him a small shrug in response.
“Just make sure no one gets emotionally hurt, Jason.” Bruce said.
“How come you’re telling me and not Y/n!” Jason stood up, looking aghast.
“Because Y/n is smarter than that,” Mr. Wayne said simply.
Ignoring his father, Jason rounded on you. “Seriously, doll, what was your score?”
You glanced down at the number on your screen and a silent war raged on in your mind. On one side, your pride stood tall, but on the other, your heart begged for something else. “95,” you blurted out.
The room went silent. Bruce and Alfred exchanged a glance and Bruce immediately took out his phone and started typing away. Cass looked over your shoulder and hummed. Tim let out a low whistle and Damian cackled. Dick closely watched his younger brother with a pleased smile.
“Wait, actually?” Jason asked.
“Yes, Todd,” you sighed. “Actually.” Out of the corner of your eye, you saw Bruce show his phone to Alfred. Alfred raised an eyebrow and you had an inkling of who Bruce had texted.
“Damn, sweetheart,” Jason continued. “Did you throw the test on purpose?”
“Just take the date, Jason.” You said, “I wouldn’t dwell on it. Though I am expecting you to pull out all the stops.”
“You won’t be disappointed, sweetheart.” Jason pressed a kiss to your forehead and you pushed him away, ignoring the twists and turns of your stomach.

I Gave You Immortality, I Can Take It Back Anytime
Daminette One Shot | Soulmate AU | AO3
Marinette Dupain-Cheng has always known she was immortal. Maybe not always.
But there had been multiple instances in her life that proved she was.
Like when she was four, she and Nino had been playing catch when the ball he threw at her bounced and rolled onto the road. Seeing no cars in sight, Marinette had rushed onto the street to grab the ball when a car seemed to have spawned out of nowhere and sped towards her.
She had frozen in fear, not able to move when the car miraculously broke down just as it was about to hit her. Her parents hadn’t let her out of their sight for a while after that incident.
That night, she remembered seeing a boy about the same age as her with green eyes, tanned skin and a permanent scowl on his face as he crossed his arms and looked at her with an air full of superiority as he snapped, “Be more careful.”
She had thought the dream was weird and never saw the boy again until when she was six. She somehow contracted pneumonia and was sent to the ER for a life-threatening emergency.
She slept at the hospital that night, afraid and alone, her parents weren’t allowed in the room as the sickness was contagious.
She saw the green-eyed boy again, this time looking older than he was when she last saw him. His scowl was the same, looking down at her with disapproval as if she had sought out the sickness on her own and gotten sick on purpose.
“Don’t look at me like it’s my fault,” She snapped, unhappy with his disapproving expression.
He looked surprised but the expression was gone as quickly as it appeared, the scowling expression slipping back like it never left in the first place as he spat, “It is your fault! If you never went near that sick person in the first place, you would not have contracted the disease.”
Marinette stomped her foot, unwilling to let the boy talk to him like that. “It’s not my fault I’m sick! Everything hurts! I’m scared and alone, I don’t need to add you yelling at me to the mix.”
By the end of her rant, she was struggling to contain her tears, the frustration of everything she had been holding back while she had been awake came tumbling out.
The boy’s face softened slightly and he shifted, looking uncomfortable at the girl looking so close to tears. He gave a hesitant gentle pat to her head as he said, “Get better soon.”
The following morning when she woke up, her pneumonia had been cured.
Since that night, the mysterious boy appeared more often on days when she got hurt or injured, and with her clumsy nature, she saw the boy every few days.
“I just realized I don’t know your name,” Marinette asked one day as they hung out in the dreamscape.
They were both doing their own thing, with the boy focused on his sketchbook and Marinette working on some colouring book.
He grunted, not happy with the interruption. “That is not important.”
She closed her colouring book and got up to snatch the sketchbook from his hands.
“Hey!” he glared at her, hoping to intimidate her but she was stubborn, not giving in.
“It’s important to me. I want to know who my friend is,” she said, referring to his earlier statement.
“We are not friends,” he grumbled, looking away.
She stuck out her tongue. “Too bad. You’re stuck with me, you always appear when I sleep.”
The boy stubbornly avoided her gaze, focusing on some shelves behind her instead.
“Just tell me your name. Please?” She whined, putting on her best puppy doll eyes, his scowling expression faltering as he all but melted at the adorable expression she was making.
He huffed, trying to act like he was unaffected by the look but Marinette knew better. She had come to figure out his weakness as her puppy doll eyes and she used it to her full advantage.
“Damian. Damian Al Ghul,” he said, glaring at her.
Her smile was bright, his glaring eyes softening immediately and she was happy she had finally got him to tell her his name! He was going to be her best friend, it would be the last thing she did even if he continued to be stubborn.
At 13 years old, she was given the ladybug earrings and became Ladybug, the heroine of Paris.
That came with a price. She was injured more often, her meetings with Damian in the dreamscape every few days turned to every day.
He had somehow known her identity as Ladybug as soon as she saw her the night after the first Akuma and he had thrown a fit about it.
At 16, the akumas had escalated. Before, when the Akumas avoided killing and only stuck to injuries now weren’t afraid of taking more ruthless measures.
Multiple times when Marinette thought she was about to die, something miraculous happens to change it like the universe was being warped to make sure she doesn’t die and in a way, avenges her while it was at it.
About to get lava sprayed and incinerated from an Akuma? The lava gun runs out of lava fuel, allowing her and Chat Noir to catch him off guard to break the akumatized object.
A car getting thrown at her by an Akuma and about to crush her? It missed, somehow ricocheting off a building and hitting the Akuma square in the face.
That one battle where Hawkmoth himself shows up and has her cornered, about to grab her earrings? He gets attacked by his own Akuma.
An Akuma that absorbs the powers of miraculous holders and cataclysms her? Oh would you look at that, the Akuma gets sidetracked at the last second— courtesy of Chat Noir— and the wall behind her disintegrates to dust instead of her.
She could go on. It was absurd and a bit (utterly) ridiculous if she was being honest but at least her life never really seems to be in any real danger.
She had thought maybe it had something to do with her donning the ladybug miraculous and it was giving her insane luck, she even consulted her kwami about it.
Tikki had debunked that theory, looking confused as she did. “I’m not sure what’s happening to you, Marinette, but the ladybug miraculous isn’t the reason. The ladybug miraculous can give you a little luck at times but there must be balance, which means you would also have bad luck days. All those circumstances weren’t the outcome of lady luck and not to mention, you never seem to have any bad luck days. Even when you do, the event always somehow gets altered at the last second.”
Marinette had brought up her theories to Damian but he always looked uninterested and avoided the subject so she stopped bringing them up in the dreamscape.
She had a hunch on why this was happening but she denied it and pushed the possibility out of her mind. Damian never said anything about it, so she wouldn’t either. She was good at denying things, it was how she never figured out Chat Noir’s identity.
Now at the age of 17, Marinette was still contemplating if she was somehow immortal when Scarecrow broke in while her class was given a tour of Wayne Enterprises.
“So this is the famed Akuma Class, you people are the perfect test subjects for my new and evolved fear toxin! I wonder what fears you all have… Oh well, I’m about to find out.” Scarecrow announced, looking around in excitement like a kid in a toyshop for the first time. He pointed to Lila. “You! You look the most scared… Wonder what you’re afraid of, hmm?”
He looked to his henchmen. “Bring her here!”
Marinette rubbed her temples. She might not be Lila’s biggest fan— an understatement— but her hero complex won’t let her stand by and do nothing.
Even when it was completely Lila’s fault that Scarecrow had taken an interest in them— you can’t go around saying how you knew the Waynes and not expect any kidnapping attempts for ransom.
No matter, Marinette can take Scarecrow’s attention off Lila and make him focus on her instead. Marinette knew death avoided her like the plague at this point and if she wasn’t immortal, then maybe she was just insanely lucky.
“Let her go,” She said in a tired voice, not putting much energy into shouting but her voice rang clear in the quiet room as everyone looked fearful.
Scarecrow looked delighted by the prospect of someone volunteering. “Oh, a volunteer I see?”
He waved his henchmen off and they dropped Lila, causing her to tumble to the ground with a gasp, the henchmen moving to grab Marinette instead.
Marinette let herself get manhandled towards Scarecrow as he grabbed his syringe, the pointy tip of the needle gleaming in the light.
The fashionista in her wanted to protest at the sack-like mask he was wearing and she bit her lip to keep from saying anything to anger him. It’s not like she’s seen worse, Hawkmoth has a worse fashion sense if she was being honest.
Of course, her mouth didn’t stay shut for long and spat the words out without her permission, the need to critique his fashion overpowering her self-preservation.
“Nice mask,” She quipped, she couldn’t keep the sarcasm off her tone even when her very life was on the line. “Are you participating in the next potato sack race or are you trying to start a new fashion trend with that?”
Scarecrow’s eyes flashed with anger at her remark and he moved forward, pushing his henchmen out of the way, about to stab the syringe into her bloodstream when she acted on her instincts as Ladybug and sent a roundhouse kick to his face, catching the mad scientist off-guard as he lost his grip on the syringe and fell backwards.
The syringe seemed to have flown in the air in slow motion, the tip of the needle stabbing into the arm of the fallen villain and injecting the fear toxin into his bloodstream, making him get a taste of his own medicine.
Marinette allowed her lips to twitch upwards at the sight, her guardian angel had struck once again. Her slight smile faded away at the thought, not wanting to come to terms with the facts.
She turned to see that Batman, Red Robin, Red Hood and Nightwing had arrived, looking dumbfounded at the scene.
Red Robin stepped forward, looking cautiously at the screaming Scarecrow before addressing her. “Miss? How did this happen?”
Marinette hummed, looking nonchalant. “You can say he got a taste of his own medicine… literally.”
The Batboys burst out laughing at her pun while Batman looked unimpressed.
“What you’re saying is, Scarecrow was hit by his own syringe?” Batman asked, looking suspicious.
She shrugged, looking towards her class to see they were being ushered out by Ms. Bustier.
“I did a roundhouse kick to his face,” She admitted, making eye contact with Ms. Bustier who waited for her at the exit. “It caught him off guard and the syringe was knocked out of his hand before the pointy tip landed on his arm.”
The suspicion in his eyes didn’t clear as he responded, “You must have been extremely lucky. This happened too conveniently, don’t you think?”
Batman was prodding for something but she couldn’t find it in herself to care about the interrogation or to quell his suspicions. “Mr. Batman, I was just in a traumatic situation and now have PTSD. If you don’t mind, I would like to join my class and spend the rest of the day at the hotel to get my mind off of the traumatic experience,”
She could see Red Hood trying not to laugh at her reply as his shoulders shook and she turned away without waiting for how the Dark Knight would respond.
She walked away to join the rest of her class as she heard Batman tell Red Robin to get the cure for Scarecrow.
──────────
As she went to sleep that night, she pushed the day’s events from her mind, and the fading laugh of Scarecrow dissolved into the quiet stillness of the dreamscape.
Damian was already in the dreamscape like usual and was glaring at her with his arms crossed and looking annoyed.
Marinette sent him her brightest smile, hoping to soften his annoyed look at her recklessness.
It worked, his eyes softening, although he didn’t uncross his arms as he pinned her with the look he had on every time she did something that injured or almost killed her.
“I know you did that on purpose. What theory did you think you were trying to prove?” Damian asked, unhappy with her lack of self-preservation.
Her eyes were wide, looking the epitome of innocence. “Did what?”
He scowled, the soft look in his green eyes gone as it glittered with annoyance. “Tt. Don’t you take that tone with me. You know exactly what you did, don’t make me say it. It is getting increasingly harder for me to save you every time.”
To his horror, tears were glistening in her eyes and he tried to backtrack but the damage was done.
“You died, didn’t you? Before we met? You were so young,” Marinette whispered, the tears falling as he didn’t respond. His silence was enough to confirm she had been right all this time.
She looked away, unable to look at him as she came to terms with the facts she had been deadset on denying since young.
Damian reached out a hand and looking hesitant, he moved forward to hug her from behind, his arms going around her waist and causing her to freeze at how he was initiating physical contact.
“Angel, I was never sure how to break the news to you… but it seems like you’ve always accepted the fact, albeit subconsciously. I did not mean to keep that fact away from you.” he said quietly, resting his chin on her shoulder, closing his eyes and savouring the moment.
He was right, even if she was actively denying the fact that he was dead, her subconscious had long already accepted.
Since Damian had died before they met, their soul bond activated upon his death, the universe gifting them with the dreamscape and making it so that they would never be apart, even in death.
There was a catch— she could only meet Damian in the dreamscape if she was injured or came close to death and he warped the universe to ensure she would avoid death.
It was why she had always been clumsy, her heart knew he would be waiting for her in the dreamscape and wouldn’t be able to see her unless she was hurt in some way even if her mind hadn’t accepted it.
Marinette voiced her thoughts out loud and he tugged her to face him, his green eyes meeting her blue ones with an intensity that made her breath hitch.
“I don’t wish to see you hurt, Angel. I do everything I can to make sure you don’t die by saving your life at every turn. You need to stop with your recklessness,” he said, trying to look stern, although he didn’t look very convinced he was going to get through to her.
She was stubborn and he knew it.
He reached out to wipe her tears away with his thumb, his eyes never leaving hers.
“Thank you, Damian, for everything,” she whispered, the weight of her unspoken emotions palpable in the air between them.
With a trembling smile, she tried to lighten up the mood even as her heart felt heavy. “You know I won’t. How else will I see you every night to make sure you aren’t feeling lonely without my company? Besides, I know you will always watch over me.”
Marinette knew her response held some truth to it, she didn’t like the thought of Damian feeling lonely in the dreamscape. She wouldn’t stop being clumsy, if only so she could see him every night in the dreamscape.
He softened at her words, though he still didn’t look happy. “I gave you immortality, I can take it back anytime.”
She went quiet at that, looking thoughtful. “Why don’t you?”
His brows furrowed, a rare show of his confusion. “What?”
She elaborated. “Why don’t you? Take away my immortality that is.”
His brows deepened, not understanding why she was asking him such a thing. “You deserve to be happy.”
Marinette shook her head, stepping closer to him. “What if my happiness is with you? Why do you save me every time when you could’ve let me die to be with you?”
Damian’s eyes held sadness but no signs of regret at his repeated decision to save her. “You deserve to live the life I could not. You have dreams to fulfill and many things to discover in life. It is not your time yet.”
At her shocked silence, he continued. “You don’t know how hard it is to let you go every time. I am afraid that one of these days I will no longer be able to find it in me to let you go and bind your life to mine in the afterlife forever.”
The tears she had managed to keep away started to come back at his heartfelt confession.
“Please, I beg of you, don’t try to die anymore. Live your life, the life that I did not have the chance to live. If not for yourself, then do it for me,” he looked desperate, his stoic mask cracking, allowing her to see every emotion he was feeling.
Her lips quivered, the tears flowing from her eyes and dropping to the white smokey ground, the droplets absorbing into the void like it was never there. “Will I ever see you again?”
Damian allowed himself to smile if only for her sake, the muscles feeling strange at the unfamiliar expression. He could see her eyes dropping to his soft smile and how her eyes were tracing his features, committing it to memory.
“When the time is right. I will always be here when you need me, mon ange. This is not goodbye,” he said, placing a soft kiss on her forehead.
Marinette closed her eyes, allowing herself to bask in his presence before it was time for her to wake up.
She would live her life and fulfill her dreams.
For him.

DP(/DC) PROMPT:
Danny got hurt and lost a lot of blood. The only person in town with the same blood type as him is part dragon, but they didn't know that yet because Paulina didn't start breathing fire and growing fangs and claws until a week after she gave Danny some of her blood.
A month later, Danny's core starts to destabilize because the heat that comes with dragon DNA doesn't mix well with his ice core. Purging the dragon DNA from Danny's body is too dangerous. Frostbite and Dorothea know of a charm that could balance the heat of a dragon's inner fire with a ghost's ice core throughout the body of a being with both and keep them from damaging each other, but Danny doesn't have enough dragon DNA for that to be safe. They alter his DNA to make him 1/4 dragon so they can use the charm to save him because he would fade in a week without this being done.
Danny doesn't know how to feel about being even less human now.
The charm that keeps his body and core balanced and stable is given to him as a necklace. (Could be a choker or a regular necklace. I'm leaning towards choker.) He can temporarily take the necklace off without damaging himself, but it starts to hurt after 10 minutes. If he takes it off for 30 seconds, it fills the area around him with a cloud of steam no one can see through, which can work like a smoke bomb without making people cough. Danny and people he's working with have time to get away unseen before the steam clears enough to see.
Danny can transform into a partial dragon form with ears, horns, claws, wings, a tail, and scales, and he already had fangs. Paulina can go full dragon mode because she is half dragon.
Also, his parents react badly to both the half ghost thing and the quarter dragon thing.
Now for the DC part of this. I have a few ideas.
Put Danny on a team with other teenage superheroes. Maybe he's been on the team longer than he's been part dragon! You could explore the angst or hurt/comfort of Danny talking to his team about his core destabilizing and the fact that he has a week to decide to either become even less human or fade. You could explore how Danny's dragon powers mixed with his ghost powers affect the team dynamic and strategies and the team's reaction to finding out they don't need to use as many smoke bombs anymore!
You could make it Dead Serious, whether you decide to create a team for Dami, put Dami and Danny on an existing team where their teammates are mostly older than them, or ignore the team idea. I really wanna see someone explore Dead Serious with Danny being 1/4 dragon, tho.
If shipping isn't your style, you could find a way to put the batfam adopting Danny into this idea instead of using Dead Serious.
Or you could add your own ideas for how Danny being 1/4 dragon could be used in a DP/DC thing!

A Bundle of Heliotropes - Chapter 1 - Marking
| Masterlist | Start: Here <3 | Next |
| Ao3 | Wattpad |
After two people have turned 16 they get a soulmark, a near-exact, or complementary, mark or as some referred to it as a tattoo. This can be anywhere on the person, sometimes they're simple, small, or inconspicuous on occasion. Other times they take up a great deal of space, elaborate pieces of work, their meaning so clear much clearer more often than not.
When Marinette Dupain-Cheng was younger she couldn't wait for her mark. She hadn't cared what it would look like because no matter what it would be beautiful, because this was her way to her one in the Universe.
When she fell in love with Adrien she was sure it was him but slowly felt as though she was wrong as she failed to confess or even have a normal conversation with the blond. Why would the Universe give her someone she couldn't even talk to?
This led to her officially letting him go and giving Luka a wholehearted try, that was until he got his soulmark. Akumas, being Ladybug, and Guardian duties had already been putting a strain on their relationship so Luka getting his mark was just the icing on the cake, and Marinette thought it would be better for them to break up and remain friends.
Marinette spent months of hopeful vs. hopeless, and as her birthday drew near a feeling of dread came upon her. The day came when she woke up with her collar area burning with her mark.
It was beautiful, just below the center of her collarbone a circle resting with elm branches coming from it going across to end at her shoulders. In the circle was a giant ladybug, along with robins sitting on the branches of her tree.
Looking in the mirror left her almost breathless, she brought her hand up to the mark almost scared to touch it. For fear if she touched it would fade the canvas of her skin forgetting what had been.
The only problem was it was far too telling. A ladybug? As if that wouldn't reveal her. She couldn't show this, not without someone realizing what the ladybug truly represented.
She could show Alya, she had told her identity at the beginning of the school year. She trusted her not to blab about it, especially when a few months ago Alya was going through the Ladyblog rewatching her videos and trying to see if any of them could be of help. Then she stumbled upon her interview with Lila to realize that she couldn't possibly be best friends with Ladybug when that was in fact her. She apologized to Marinette when she realized her mistake and how it took her this long even after Marinette had already told her and proved she was Ladybug.
“Marinette!” Tikki’s voice broke through her trance. The Kwami had been admiring her mark, while it wasn't the biggest or the flashiest. It was certainly something to admire. Big and flashy had never been Marinette’s forte, perhaps her soulmate and her had that in common?
“Sorry Tikki. I just,” Marinette glanced into the mirror again looking at the branches and its’ birds. “I can't believe it.” The teen said the last bit breathlessly.
“Guardian, as beautiful as your mark is,” Wayzz floated up. “You’re going to need to hide it. Someone could put it together, even with the quantum masking.”
“Wayzz is right,” Marinette turned to face Tikki as she spoke. “We can't count on the Miraculous magic to hide your identity when a mark so clearly refers to your heroine persona. While our magic is ancient that doesn’t mean it’s entirely dependable either.”
“You're right,” Marinette sighed. “I can show Alya at least. I'm sure she's gonna freak.”
Marinette wore a shirt that covered above her collarbone, unable to wear her usual white tees. She wore a light pink top so that if the shirt got wet the mark wouldn't be seen through the fabric. Marinette had already been making it a habit not to wear her usual whites anyway, with how many times Lila had caused “accidents” that ruined them. It wasn’t like she was dumb enough to keep wearing something that would be affected the worse.
Marinette already knew that Lila would try to say she must not have a soul mate if she wasn't willing to show her friends. Honestly, Marinette could care less about that, as Lila probably wouldn't share hers either when she got hers later this year. Not to mention there were others in the class and friends that had been getting their marks recently and not all of them wanted to share. Also, Marinette might be the younger between her and them, if her getting the mark on her birthday was anything to go by. Which it was.
Marinette made her way downstairs while tying her hair back, over the last few months while she still was late for things she had gotten better at waking up early. It made her friends excited, that's for sure. Marinette was proud, she may not get all the hours of sleep needed for a person her age but at least she started her day earlier.
She grabbed an apple and made her way down the stairs. She didn't want to risk Lila trying to claim she had done something when she was least likely to have. So she made her way as quickly as she possibly could, despite her having more time to get to school; it helped to get there as soon as she could around a certain time. As the more people around to see her the less likely Lila could make her claims.
Marinette passed through the bakery giving her maman and papa hugs and kisses before snatching up croissants into a bag to share with some of her friends. Mainly Alya, Nino, and Adrien of course every morning hung out with her. Many of her other friends would sometimes join them, sometimes they were in a rush or just forgot to grab something to eat.
Everyone mostly “played nice” as Adrien tried to keep it. While Adrien seemed to play peacekeeper along with Alya they both had very different reasons. Adrien being so Lila wouldn't say anything to his Father and risk his freedom, and while they understood that it still hurt when Adrien sometimes took more of Lila’s side in the conversation, even if it was for the sake of “keeping the peace.” Over the months Chloé, Kagami, and Marinette had been able to convince Gabriel to be more free with his son, even Natalie had surprisingly shown support. But Adrien still turned the arguments in Lila’s favor a good chunk of the time.
Alya on the other hand had been slowly sliding more to Marinette, so as to not cause Lila into a fuss. Alya hated it, that much was clear, but it seemed as though Lila didn't notice as long as the Créole teen was spitting articles of her amazing life. Alya had made a separate blog to “support her friend” but what Lila hadn't noticed was that the writer’s name wasn't Alya but a pen name. But it had come to light for Lila that Alya still cared about Marinette and wasn't entirely leaving her. Alya gave excuses, true and false, but we're good enough for the Italian. But Lila taking notice had only been a recent thing.
“Marinette!” Alya shouted as Marinette made her way into the courtyard. Some people turned to see the dark-haired teen make her way to her friend, some of those students happened to be Max and Rose. Score, Marinette couldn’t help but think as it meant if Lila tried to say something they would most likely doubt her, especially if she was with Alya.
“Hey Alya,” Marinette smiled before hugging her best friend. As she pulled away she wasn’t even halfway out before Alya was practically buzzing.
“So?” Alya stretched the word out while bouncing in place. “Did you get your mark? Or is it not there? And if there isn’t one then that’s okay girl! Remember your soulmate could be younger than you and hasn’t turned sixteen yet. And even if you don’t get a mark I won’t think any less of you, it just means that you're free to choose your own destiny and-” and before Alya could continue rambling, something that she had picked up from the Asian girl, that Marinette cut her off.
“Alya! I got my mark,” Marinette laughed before finally letting go of the other girl’s hands. Alya’s face slowly went from blank to pure glee. She grabbed Marinette’s shoulders and shook her, “You. Me. Bathroom. Now!”
Alya dragged her to the bathroom, while others would be upset at the other’s demanding antics Marinette just laughed. Alya pushed the bathroom door open and surveyed the room, “Which stall is empty?”
Some girls gave her weird looks, but those who were friends or knew the girls personally giggled or simply smiled. One of them pointed to the one at the end. Alya declared “perfect” and brought Marinette in with her. Some of the girls said happy birthdays to Marinette while giggling as Alya dragged her into the stall. As Alya shut the stall door it could be heard some girls going “Oh” as they realized why the two went into the stall.
“Show me now girl!” Alya cried, the stall at the end wasn’t as small as the others but it certainly wasn’t one as big as the one closer to the door. Alya had mentioned that her mark might hint at her heroing, as a theory. It wasn’t uncommon for soul marks to represent someone’s work or passions, so it was safe to assume that Marinette’s could reference Ladybug.
Marinette pulled her arms out of her shirt before taking it off, her tank top left a perfect view of the mark. Aside from the straps, it’s not like it really mattered. Alya let out what had to be the loudest squeal Marinette had heard come out of her, and she had let Alya try many Miraculi on just for the fun of it. That sleepover had been the loudest squeals and laughter that came out of Alya to date. Till today that is.
“Are those tree branches? And robins?”
“Yes, and yes,” Marinette said before bringing her shirt back on. “Elms if I’m not wrong. But I studied plants for that one nature-forest-themed fashion competition.”
Alya finally opened the stall back up when Marinette had her shirt situated, and with Wayzz and Tikki away. Alya just seemed to be radiating from excitement. If Alya was the type to jump up and down when excited that would be exactly what she would be doing now. Though Marinette had a feeling it had to do with how nervous Alya was for Nino’s birthday.
Nino’s Birthday was just four days away, Alya’s was last month. She didn't get a mark so she held out hope that Nino would be her soulmate, while being soulmates didn't necessarily mean it was romantic you couldn't blame the girl. As for all they knew, Nino or Alya may have a romantic bond with someone else. With how close they were and how much they loved each other it made sense to be scared of such possibilities.
Marinette was honestly scared hers wouldn't be romantic, not that there was anything wrong with a platonic bond. But for Marinette, it just meant finding someone to have her big house with three kids and a hamster would be much harder.
Marinette subconsciously touched where her mark lay, What if they don't like that I'm the one they're soul bound to?
“Marinette!”
The said girl looked up to see Adrien, Nino, and Kim waiting for her. A smile came on her face as she saw them. Kim waved at her overdramatically before raising a sign that read “Happy Birthday To The Bread Child.”
Alya and Marinette laughed at the sign, it had been a joke between mainly Kim and Marinette that she was “The Bread Child”. When they were in early collège their class had done a project about names and their heritages. From then on Kim liked to joke about her father’s last name.
Her other friends had slowly made their ways into the joke calling her bread-related nicknames. Adrien and Nino were the worst, as they were puns. It honestly made Marinette think their favorite hero was Chat Noir rather than Ladybug.
“Happy Birthday!” Nino and Kim shouted at their long-time friend.
“Happy Birthday Marinette,” Adrien smiled at her. The girl's insides swirled around a little at his smile, it was charming, one of his real ones even. Despite letting go of her crush on him he still made her flustered from time to time.
“Thanks you guys,” she felt a bit embarrassed but she couldn't care. Her friends always made her feel like that on important occasions, but she enjoyed it nonetheless.
“I'm assuming by Alya’s face and that she was practically skipping her way over here that you got your mark?” Kim raised his eyebrows at his short friend. Though most people at Françoise Dupont were shorter than Kim.
“Yes,” her cheeks flushed as she admitted it.
“That's amazing dudette,” Nino said in his usual fashion.
“Can you show us?” Kim looked between the two girls.
Marinette swallowed before opening her mouth to speak, “I don't want to lie to you but I want to keep it myself. I would love to show it but for now, I would like to keep it to myself.”
Marinette looked everywhere but her friends while she said this. They were gonna think she was selfish, or that she hates them when she doesn't! But because they think she hates them they’ll start hating her, and they’ll all leave her. She’ll have no friends because they’ll tell everyone and then she won't ever make friends for the rest of lycèe. Since no one likes her she’ll never get to be a famous and successful designer, and when she finally finds her soulmate they’ll think she’s horrible and hate her because she has no friends and that she's a failure. And then she’ll be alone for the rest of her life. She’ll never get her big house for her hamster and three kids, and-
“Marinette!” Her friend's voices snapped her out of her panicked state.
“S-sorry!” Marinette cried.
“Marinette, it's okay,” Nino said.
“We understand and we won't push you to show us,” Kim pulled Marinette in for a side hug. “We would never hate you for being private.”
“Exactly!” Adrien said with a reassuring smile. “It's your decision. Also soulmarks are very personal things, it only makes sense if someone decided not to share theirs.”
“It’s in your full right to decide who you want to share your mark with,” Alix said from behind Marinette. Marinette would have jumped if Kim hadn't been hugging her right then. “Honestly I don't think I will share mine with anyone when I turn sixteen next year.” Alix admitted before continuing in a joking tone, “Unless it’s something sick like a dragon or snakes. Then I would show that sucker off for all it’s worth!”
Everyone laughed at Alix’s statement before heading to their classroom.
|
When Damian Wayne first didn't get his mark he thought maybe he didn't have one, and he was fine with that. Even pleased one could say. As it would be one less person to care about, to protect, or to be used as a weakness.
His family reassured him that his soulmate probably just hadn't turned sixteen yet. Truly that didn't, as the League had certain beliefs around the topic. All Damian saw was that it was the Universe giving him that one person that anyone could use against him.
Lo and behold they would be right; just a few months later would he wake to his shoulder blades burning as a mark finally made itself upon his body.
Damian looked at his back with the mirror in his bathroom. It was…magnificent. It was the only word that could come to mind that held everything he felt about it, the young Wayne couldn't help but look at it.
A circle between his shoulder blades with tree branches that went across his shoulder blades and stopped just as it went to wrap around, clearly cherry blossoms were the branches that came out, ladybugs in flight or resting in the branches. While it made no sense it was still a beautiful sight. In the circle was a robin, its back to the viewer and its head turned up so you could see its face, as best you could with how the view of the mark portrayed it.
Damian swallowed, his body showcasing the form of nervousness without his consent. He couldn't help it though, looking at made his chest tight and his fingers flinching, desperately wanting to touch the mark. His arm made its way up and his hand came down-
He clenched his jaw as he turned his hand into a fist and brought it away. He huffed leaving the bathroom, and his face became a scowl. As he got dressed two parts of him berated him. He took a moment to calm himself, it’s just a mark. But it wasn't like a regular tattoo, it couldn't come off.
It was one of the reasons you, internationally, couldn't get a tattoo until you were eighteen, because you were one: a minor. And second, you didn't get your mark until you were around the age of sixteen to nineteen. At least that was the average range of the current day, there were some larger age differences here and there, but it wasn't as common now. Guess the Universe seemed to catch on to how humans had been viewing age differences in recent times.
Damian didn’t understand why the Universe had decided that soulmates would be part of the staple of its rules. An absolute that had become the conclusion long ago that no matter what you were bound to meet your soulmate, in one life or another. At least that was according to magic users and what the League had from hunting down certain magic users.
So under no circumstances could his family find out about this mark. He may have come a long way from who he was when he was ten years old but even still he did not wish to entrust them with everything. While they were family, his most trusted, and partners, he couldn't stand them over insignificant things. This mark did follow under the file: “Keep Out Of Knowledge For Long As Possible.” or as he formally called it “My Business.”
It was his business, and as it was his business it meant his brothers would poke and pry their way into said business. Damian stifled a groan as he made his way down the hall. Damian could only hope his brothers would stick to their recent “level 1: giving space” tactic, but that would only last for so long. He might as well enjoy the peace that came with it.
“Damian we're going skating after school!” Grayson exclaimed upon the young Wayne entering the dining room.
As much peace that would come with the level 1 space.

DPXDC Prompt #120
Everyone has a different way of finding their soulmate but everyone had one. Damian for one had started seeing things in his dreams that didn’t quite make sense. He started painting his visions and they somehow came more clear the more he painted. It was very vague at first, a vibrant pair of green eyes, wispy translucent figures, and even stars and planets. Soon enough the visions became more clear as he started seeing specifics, a crown of fire, a lab with an unsettling familiar green portal, a figure with white hair.
One day one of his visions had a feeling of wrongness to it, a figure strapped to a table and 3 little letters ‘GIW’ left in his head. After a night of research he knew exactly what he had to do. A government agency was getting a visit not from Robin or Damian Wayne, but Damian Al Ghul and he was not happy.

Soulmate au + bodyswap au
Danny didn't know what he was expecting from the newest wish Desiree was granting, but the next thing he knew he was a nine year old in freaky ninja garb, standing in some temple of some sort with other (thankfully adult) ninjas training nearby. The woman accompanying him was startled and said something about his eyes.
Danny, knowing his eyes were likely a blazing ghostly green since he was shoved into this body while in ghost mode, decided to ditch and was pleasantly surprised when he found out he could still use his powers while in this other kids body even if he couldn't get out of it.
Needless to say he was soon on the run from a evil ninja death cult. As a nine year old. In a foreign dimension. And appearently he had to seek out some "Batman" guy in hopes he will help him not "Go Ghost" permanently. It would also suck if he accidentally got a nine year old cult victim killed.
Unfortunately he didn't plan out how he was going to explain this to Batman or his bird and now he was hanging upside-down by a light post trying to explain.
"Im not your son im just in your sons body and we did not consent to this."
"Well, you're a ghost right?" Nightwing oh so helpfully supplied, "Can't you just get out since the kid didn't agree to an impromptu possession?"
Danny sighed. Again. "No, Neither of us consented to this. And I'm kinda stuck in here."
Danny has had an all together terrible time.
Damian on the other hand has had a blast. He, unfortunately for dannys home dimension, has had complete access to all of Phantoms powers and even had a ghost form.
Needless to say when Danny and the batfam get to Dannys home dimension he finds out the hard way this little nine year old murder cultist had wiped out the entirety of his rogues gallery save for Johnny and Kitty, destroyed Fentonworks, orphaned Danny and Jazz, completely dismantled the US government, and was on the fast track to taking over the world.
Now they had to stop him from doing that all while Damian isn't even sorry and is trying to convince Phantom to rule the world with him.

Word Count: 981
P.S: This was sooo much fun to write, sorry if you wanted something else. I just- I just really wanted to write it this way
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In this world there is love, and life and joy. Almost every person has a chance at these things through their soulmate. Someone chose by fate itself to help you have a good life. While not all soulmates are romantic some are, and that soulmate will be with you (hopefully) for the rest of your life.
There are of course cynics who believe soulmates are a myth, those people usually lose their chance. Chance at happiness because they turn away one of the people chosen to help them have it. And some... some choose to defy fate and choose to find others to love, others to create joy with.
And fate... fate does not like to be ignored, so it caused... some backlash in response. Which is unfortunately how you came to be.
You parents were soulmates, but they didn't want anything to do with each other. Of course, fate had its way, and you were born. Born in a home where love and hate ran so closely, they intermingled.
It was one of the reasons why when you realized who your soulmate was you didn't say a word. You in fact began avoiding them all together. But your heart- your soul longed for them. And so you were stuck in conflict. Conflict with your soul and reason.
Which was why you were sitting in the library, in the very back corner. Watching, despite the voice of reason screaming in your head, Damian fucking Wayne, talk with his friends.
Looking up from your book you sighed, he- he was annoying and rude and and and loved animals and was an accomplished artist. So much that he began teaching children with special needs how to draw.
While you may have heard it was a punishment from his father, your soul still ached for him. Letting out a groan you slammed your head against the table. Why was fate such a cruel bitch? Why could fate just once give you a fucking break?
Footsteps caused you to freeze and you looked up to see a red haired boy standing in front of your table. He smiled and waved and you gave him a weak smile.
"Hi, I'm Colin and me and my friends were wondering if you wanted to join us."
He pointed to a table- the table behind him and you winced. Looking up you saw the small smile on his face and your conscious screamed.
"Uh, are you sure? You guys don't even know me."
Colin raised an eyebrow in confusion.
"Uh, you've been in our classes since we started school here. And- Dam-" Colin paused before shrugged, "we can get to know each other better. I mean we've been in the same grade for years."
Before you could reply, a dark-haired boy, who you recognized as Jon Kent, bounded over towards you and Colin. He threw an arm over Jon's shoulders and smiled.
"Hi, Y/N. Are you going to join us? You're going to join us, right?"
His glasses slipped to the edge of his nose, and you winced. You were? Oh no you were.
"Uh, Okay." You remarked, "I mean I guess."
"Awesome!" Jon said.
He then leaned down and scooped your things into his arms. Turning towards his table he bumped Colin.
"Get the rest of her stuff."
Colin looked to you and you quickly grabbed onto your bag and stood up. Before you could even blink, Colin leaned forwards and grabbed your book.
Then he turned and followed after Jon. Cursing internally you followed him. They both sank down onto their seats and left one for you directly across from Damian. You watched as he flipped the page and Colin and Jon set your stuff on the table.
Damn it.
Reluctantly you sat down and winced. Damian looked up and you noticed a cut on his face and his eyes looked strange. Was it a black eye?
Your heart stopped and the words slipped from you before you could stop yourself.
"What happened?"
"It's not important, why do you care?" Damian remarked looking back at his notebook.
Why do you care? why do you care
Because
Because you wanted to shout If anything happened to you, it would utterly ruin me.
Instead, you shrugged. "You just looked a little banged up. Sorry for being curious."
He paused for a moment before looking up at you eyes narrowed.
"Do you know who I am?" he asked.
You nodded and answered the right answer instead of the one your soul begged you to say, "You're Damian Wayne."
But, you thought, you have no idea who I am, do you?
Damian blinked a few times his body tensing. And he shook his head.
"That's not what I meant."
You froze, swallowing you forced a smile onto your face. Reaching out you grabbed your book and pulled it towards you. Don't think about it don't think about it don't think about it.
He tilted his head and watched as you brought your book closer. Smiling weakly, you pulled it towards your face.
"You- You have no idea do you. Who I am?" He muttered
Soul crying and reason cheering you blinked. You were always terrible at lying. Maybe- maybe he meant something else? No, no you couldn't even convince yourself.
Shrugging you pressed your face into your book. Why did you agree, why did you do this to yourself?
because now he's close and near and hearing his voice made your heartbeat faster and and-
no- no. No nonononononono. stop that right now. No. No. nuh-uh no way you weren't- you weren't going to let your soul and- that raging bitch or dick or whatever it was fate control you.
Taking in a breath you went to read you book when it was pulled away from you and you met Damian's eyes.
"I'm your soul mate."
"Fucking shit."
“bruce hates me.” the words fell from your lips as you stared at the family patiently waiting at the dining room table.
you and jason were stood behind the archway, everyone seated with plates of food and waiting to be dined on. everyone so excited to finally meet you in a family seating rather than a justice league meeting. the questions filling their brains and anxiety bouncing their knees in anticipation.
with a remorseful sigh your boyfriend spoke “no he doesn’t.”
jason knew you and bruce had issues, a meta that was promoted to titans leader to a member of league in a blink of an eye. you “technically” took the spots bruce  intended for dick and that left bruce with a sour taste.
dick was the golden boy. the boy who was supposed to everything and take the cowl.
but he won’t. and bruce can’t handle the fact that you are filling in for leader.
“i’m sure he does.” you turn frantically, staring deep into his soul. “he’s never had to have dinner with me jay, always a meeting and a nod.” you spin toward the dinning room again as you whispered a new realization “he’s never even used my actual name.”
you frantically beginning picking at the polish on your fingernails, scared shitless to be honest.
you and bruce had just gotten into this morning at the watch tower. a disagreement over the joker, what a shock. you failed to fill jason in on this argument, because of the fact jason was just as scared about family dinner.
“stop that.” he swatted at your hands before encompassing your cheeks with his own larger pair “he will love you, damn whatever he thinks on the floating headquarters. he will love you because i love you, got it?”
you nodded into his hands, a smile spreading across his lips before dragging both bodies into the dining hall.
you were in for one hell of a night.
Just hear me out: Soulmate AU. But soulmates don't neccesarily mean romantic, okay? Some of them are, obviously, but that's not the point. Soulmate goes beyond that.
Dick and Donna are probably soulmates. Donna still gets married to someone else and Dick still ends up dating other people but they're Soulmates and that means more than any husband ever could.
Damian and Jon are probably Soulmates too. I don't make the rules.
I'm building up to something but for worldbuilding's sake I'm saying it's the "The first words your soulmate ever says to you are written on your palm" type soulmates.
So. Tim and Bruce Soulmates, right?
And I imagine Bruce knows. Forgoing the exact words of canon a little here but I wanna say Bruce's words are something like "Don't worry, I'll get you out of there." and meanwhile Tim's are the ultra generic "Who are you?"
So that day when Tim saves Bruce (and Dick) — it hits Bruce like a slap to the face that his Soulmate, whom he's never looked for, never dared to look for, is this child. Meanwhile, Tim has no idea that he's fatally connected to this man and as far as he knows this is all playing out very normally.
Bruce takes Tim in and immediately tells Alfred who, in his classic manner, expresses both concern for the situation as well as clinging super tightly to Tim Drake because this is Bruce's Soulmate goddammit. Would Tim maybe be better off apart from Bruce, his Soulmate, who also happens to be Batman, who lives a very dangerous life? Alfred cares about Bruce first so he does not particularly care (he will give Tim Drake the best life by Bruce Wayne's side instead).
I imagine in this world not everyone has a Soulmate, and even if you do you're not immediately born with your words. And Jack and Janet Drake likely weren't soulmates, so Tim's either passively accepting that you don't neccesarily need to find your soulmate to be happy in life or highly romanticises the magical fantasy of his fated soulmate or both at the same time. And Bruce probably told him that soulmates are a distraction and not to look for his in an attempt to further bury the secret that it's actually him. I can imagine Tim getting together with Steph and spouting all this confident stuff about personal choice and the unique adventures they can have even without being soulmates and the two of them being so excited together in that relationship and their unmatching soulmate words.
(Steph's soulmate is Cass and I think about her having this whole scene where she just. Holds Steph's hand. Looks down at her words and back up again. Silently asking. The first words that Cass ever says to Steph, saved for this moment, are "I love you.")
Aaaanyway I think about this AU and reread canon material imagining this is the case (Tim and Bruce being Soulmates, Tim not knowing but Bruce knowing) and it just vividly makes sense because Tim is the person who understands and believes in him again and again to an unusual degree. And one day Tim will find out that they're Soulmates and worse: that Bruce knew all along. And, um, most likely this will be like the 99th time he tries to quit?
Just a tiny thought
Warnings: nerd references, Alfred and Harley Quinn being awesome, the latter half not being beta-read, but will be edited soon :)
Jason woke up to screaming and shouts. Another ordinary day. “Jason! Get up!” Tim banged on the door. “You’re gonna be late!” Jason groaned and covered his head with his pillow.
The door flew open and Cass waltzed in. “I think I left my book in here last night.” She started rummaging around the nightstand.
Jason snuggled into his covers. Then his eyes flew open. “No… you didn’t,” he corrected Cass, sleep evident in his voice. “You read in your room last night. It was two days ago when you bugged me.”
“Then why is my book in your room?” Cass wiggled her found book in his face. Jason glared at the book for a moment before shrugging it off. He must’ve forgotten.
“Come on, you’ll be late to see Y/n!” Dick called from the doorway before running off to shower.
Jason sat up slowly and the covers fell down to his waist. Why was he getting extreme deja vu?
“Oh, there he is,” Cassandra laughed. “That lovesick fool.”
“Didn’t you say that yesterday?” Jason mumbled. He ran a hand over his face, rubbing sleep from his eyes. He pinched at his shoulders, squirming at the tight muscles. Why were his muscles sore? He didn’t work out yesterday. Maybe they were still sore from beating Damian and Tim. He decided to test his theory, “Hey? What’s for breakfast?”
“Alfred made pancakes,” Cass said simply.
“But Alfred never makes the same thing two days in a row,” Jason said to himself.
“Yeah?” Cass was innocent to his inner turmoil. “Yesterday we had omelettes. What’s up with you today?”
“Nothing… nothing.” The room lapsed into odd silence and Jason, tugging on his leather jacket (which he pleasantly found to be clean), suddenly released what was wrong. “Did, uh, do you ever find it weird that Alfred is the owner of a multimillion dollar company and he still makes us pancakes?”
“Do you ever find it weird that Bruce is the economics teacher at our school and you still wind up in Gordon’s office every other day?” Cass started out of the room and Jason followed after her, silently congratulating himself on bringing the conversation back around.
“Do you ever find it weird,” Damian called from the bathroom, “that Dad quit his job to start teaching the youth of Gotham City and handed his company over to his butler after I was born? Clearly, we know who the favourite is.”
“Do you ever find it weird that you guys are interrupting my shower?!” Dick stuck his head out of said shower, motioning for Damian to close the door. Jason was baffled at how similar everything was. If he hadn’t heard of soulmate stories, he would think this was all one big prank. Or that he was going crazy.
“Do you ever find it weird that in a house of idiots,” Tim hopped down the stairs. “I’m able to stay sane?”
“Dude, same.” Cass fistbumped Tim and they shared a secret handshake.
Maybe Jason was going crazy. Did he really think the universe would give him a soulmate? After all his fights with Bruce? After all those nights he snuck out? After all his depressive panic attacks? What soulmate would want him?
During breakfast, Jason’s bacon was stolen by Damian, yet again. Tim rushed out the door on account of Coding Club and Alfred flipped pancakes while sporting an apron over his suit.
“Are you alright, Master Todd?” Alfred asked, placing more pancakes in front of him. From the head of the table, Bruce scoffed and straightened his newspaper. He had tried telling Alfred to stop calling them ‘Master,’ but old habits were hard to shake.
“Probably just anxious about the test he has today,” Damian said through a mouth full of food. “We all know it’s impossible for him to concentrate with beautiful Y/n sitting next to him!” The young boy sighed dramatically. Jason hurled the syrup bottle at him. Dick caught it mid-air before the bottle could do any damage.
“I remember Miss. Y/n,” Alfred mused. “When are you going to invite her over again?” Jason wasn’t sure who Alfred’s question was directed at- him or Cass- so he kept his mouth shut.
“Can she come over tonight?” Damian asked. “I need help with homework.”
“Didn’t we finish that yesterday?” Bruce asked, setting down the newspaper.
Damian shoved more pancake in his mouth, mumbling, “not all of it?”
It was unsettling to pull up to school and see everyone wearing the exact same clothes, having the exact same conversations, and walking the exact same steps.
You were stepping off the bus, talking to Artemis and Kori. “Go on, loverboy,” Dick snickered, taking Jason’s analysis of the crowd as scanning for you. (Which was also true, not that he would ever admit it.)
“Fuck you,” was his automatic reply.
“Hey, Todd,” Cass called. “When we get back home, I’m gonna re-dye your hair. You’re losing the white streak.”
Jason groaned, thinking of the torture he had gone through yesterday. He hadn’t realised he would have to go through it again.
“What’re you reading today, L/n?” He tried to copy his movements from yesterday, snatching your backpack away from you. In order for his plan to work, he would have to act exactly as he did yesterday.
You slowly scanned him up and down, and Jason couldn’t decipher your expression. It seemed like you were hopeful at first, overanalyzing him, but it was quickly washed away. “Uh, The Fault In Our Stars, a reread,” you said. Jason wanted to believe that the bookmark was farther than where it was yesterday morning, but he shook it off. He probably just wanted to believe it.
“You don’t have to prove it to me, doll,” Jason said. He puffed up his chest, pleased that he could still make you flush at his nicknames.
“Prove it? I don’t know what you mean.”
“You don’t need to tell me you’ve read it before to prove you’re smart. You’re telling me it’s a reread cause you’re showing that you could be reading harder, more complex books but you “settled” for this one. But don’t worry, doll, I know you’re smart.”
You stilled, before slowly replying, “Thank you. You get good grades, too.”
“How sweet,” Jason placed a hand over his heart, pretending to swoon. “The Lady L/n thinks me as smart as she.”
“I never said you’re as smart as me,” you corrected.
“Care to make a little wager, then?” Jason held open the school door for you. He carefully concocted the wager as he did the day before. Jason went through the rest of the day, trying hard to remember what he did yesterday. But, of course, it wasn’t technically yesterday. It was still Thursday. Only, it was the second Thursday he’d have this week. Geez, this was going to get confusing, he thought.
Meanwhile, you were trying your best to not to have a panic attack. You had woken up to the same texts on your phone and the same greetings from your parents. At first, you had thought it was a big joke that your friends had roped your parents into. You confronted Artemis and Kori on the bus, already frustrated with your parents when they hadn’t let up. Either Artemis and Kori were incredible actors, or something weird was going on.
Something was nagging at you and when Artemis had pulled you aside and suggested you talk to an adult about it- “Ms. Quinn might know what you’re talking about. She knows a lot of random bullshit,”- you decided that was the best course of action.
“Ms. Quinn,” you approached her after the school day. “Do you know anything about days repeating themselves? Or am I going completely crazy and deserve to be in an insane asylum?”
Ms. Quinn laughed and said, “well, it seems to me as if you might’ve found your soulmate, my young padawan!”
“Padawan? When did I become a Jedi?” You cocked an eyebrow at your favourite librarian.
“You’ve always been my padawan,” Ms. Quinn said, as if it was obvious. She stood up and led you to the non-fiction section. “But I can’t guarantee I won’t lead you to the darkside.”
“Understandable,”
“I always wondered when you would find a soulmate,” Ms. Quinn commented. “You’ll have to invite me to the wedding.”
“Ms. Quinn! I’m not- we’re- I haven’t even met them yet!”
She handed a book to you, smirking. “Alright. Whatever makes you sleep at night. Check the index of this for looping days.’”
“Thanks, Ms. Quinn.”
“Anytime!”
You snuggled up in a corner of the library and flipped open the book, titled, Soulmate Identifiers. The index pointed you to page 42, in which you chuckled to yourself, silently thinking of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
“Is something funny?” A voice asked from above you. You looked up to see Jason standing over you.
“What’re you doing here?” You didn’t answer his question, glaring in suspicion at him. You didn’t see him in the library yesterday, but then again, you were helping Ms. Quinn and probably didn’t run into him.
“I need to check out a book for History,” he explained.
“What’re you doing here, bothering me?” you clarified.
“Can’t I see my sweetheart without her lashing out at me?” Jason asked, laying down next to you and using his backpack as a pillow.
“No.”
“Fair enough. What’re you reading?”
“Um…” You paused, wondering if Jason would make fun of you for your choice of book. “I.. don’t know.”
“You... don’t know?” Jason snickered, eyeing you. Clearly he knew that you were lying, but he allowed you to stay in your dishonesty.
“I don’t know. I just picked it up.” You buried your face back into the pages, trying to mask the embarrassment. Quickly, you scanned the words: While perhaps not the most common or conventional soulmate identifier, Looping Days is a personal favourite of mine. Looping Days happen when two soulmates have ignored their feelings long enough for the universe to take notice. One singular day continues repeating, akin to the famous movie Groundhog Day, however, unlike the movie, both soulmates experience it.
The day keeps repeating until the two soulmates confess their feelings, whether romantic or platonic, to each other and the week continues on, every other person unaware. When the soulmates confess, a soulmark of something significant that happened over the repeating days appears on the wrist.
The book went onto explain the questions scientists had about this soulmate phenomena, but you had read enough.
In order to escape this supposedly endless Thursday, you had to find your soulmate.
------
A whimper escaped Jason’s mouth as Cassandra tugged on his hair. He was seated on the toilet while his sister attempted to wrangle him with hair dye. “Woman up,” Cass grumbled.
“Would you tell me if you found your soulmate?” Jason asked softly.
Cass stopped, eyes meeting Jason’s in the mirror. “You found them?” she whispered. “Who?”
“I don’t know,” he said. “I haven’t found them yet.”
“Why? What’s the indicator?”
“I think it’s time looping. Yesterday was Thursday too. It’s really weird seeing the same things happen all over again. It kind of makes me feel like a god.” he chuckled. “I can predict everyone’s move.”
“Who do you think it is?” Cass yanked on his hair. “‘Cause I’ve heard that whoever you want it to be, that’s probably them.”
“I’m not answering that.”
“Y/n’s here!” Damian screamed out.
Cass placed a firm hand on Jason’s shoulder to keep him from jumping up to greet you. “Lemme finish!” she scolded. “I’m almost done.”
“But I wanna… okay. Fine.” After a couple of minutes with Cass slapping upside the head whenever he squirmed and wiggled. How was it fair that Damian, Tim, and Dick got to spend time with you?
“Okay, you’re free to go,” Cass said, but Jason was already halfway out the door. “Sure! I’ll just clean up by myself!” she rolled her eyes. “Wait! Jason!” Jason poked his head back in the bathroom. “To answer your question, yes, I would tell you if I found my soulmate.” Jason gave her a faint, trusting smile.
Jason took a moment at the top of the steps to compose himself. He subconsciously ran a hand through his newly dyed hair, wondering if you would notice. He noticed you at the kitchen table, hunched over with Damian. “Look what the cat dragged in,” he crooned in your ear.
You elbowed him in the gut and he groaned at the newly forming bruise. “More like, look what your brother dragged in,” you replied.
“The scores just came out, sweetheart,” Jason smirked, slipping into the seat next to you. “Shall we see who the victor is?”  Cass groaned loudly as she walked in, opening the snack cabinet. She pulled out a bag of pretzels and poured herself and Tim a bowl. Tim graciously accepted it.
“No! I need help from my future sister-in-law!” Damian cried. Jason’s heart thumped widely. He hid a smile at the slim idea of marrying you. He couldn’t imagine the image of you being the first thing he saw in the morning and the last thing he saw at night. Were you a cuddly sleeper? Or did you prefer to stay to your side of the bed? What did your morning voice sound like? Did you prefer evening sex or morning sez? He flushed at the intrusive thought. Dick laughed loudly and even Tim pressed his lips together to stop a laugh.
“Damn right,” You held up your hand and Cass slapped it. “Cass and I are getting married and none of you are invited to the wedding. Except Alfred, of course.”
“Of course,” Cass agreed.
“Just show me your score,” Jason whined. “Please!”
“Fine,” you pulled out your phone. Jason’s leg bounced up and down and Dick raised an eyebrow at him, silently telling him to cool it. “What’d you get?” you asked.
“A 97, but technically a 92.” Jason proudly said. “I got extra credit.” He hadn’t changed any of his answers for fear of getting something wrong. And then maybe you would surpass him. He couldn’t have that.
“Ms. Prince doesn’t give out extra credit!” you exclaimed. “What the hell?!”
“If you ask incredibly nicely and tell her it's for a good cause,” Jason explained. “Then yes, she does.”
“You fucking told her about our bet, didn’t you,” you accused.
“Why yes, yes I did.” Jason smirked and you looked incredibly frustrated.
“What bet?” Bruce asked.
“Nothing,” both you and Jason answered at the same time Dick launched into an explanation of the wager. Bruce peered at Alfred who gave him a small shrug in response.
“Just make sure no one gets emotionally hurt, Jason.” Bruce said.
“How come you’re telling me and not Y/n?!” Jason stood up, aghast.
“Because Y/n is smarter than that,” Bruce said simply.
Ignoring his father, Jason rounded on you. “Seriously, doll, what was your score?”
You glanced down at the number on your screen and Jason swallowed. “95,” you said after a tense moment.
The room went silent. Bruce and Alfred exchanged a glance and Bruce immediately took out his phone and started typing away. Cass looked over your shoulder and hummed. Tim let out a low whistle and Damian cackled. Dick closely watched his younger brother with a pleased smile.
“Wait, actually?” Jason asked.
“Yes, Todd,” you sighed. “Actually.” Out of the corner of your eye, you saw Bruce show his phone to Alfred. Alfred raised an eyebrow and you had an inkling of who Bruce had texted.
“Damn, sweetheart,” Jason continued. “Did you throw the test on purpose?”
“Just take the date, Jason.” You said, “I wouldn’t dwell on it. Though I am expecting you to pull out all the stops.”
“You won’t be disappointed, sweetheart.” Jason pressed a kiss to your forehead and practically skipped to his room, his smile lighting up the room. Later that night, as he lay in bed, he silently wondered if he was technically cheating on his soulmate by promising you a date that he may get to go on. What would happen if he found his soulmate, but you still expected a date? He didn’t want to let you down. He didn’t know if he could ever let you down. If you asked him for anything, he would probably trip over his own feet to complete your request.
Jason made a pact, then and there, that he would take you on a date no matter if he found his soulmate or not.
It was the least he could do.
