Sexuality and romance are a significant part of human behaviour and a big deal in all cultures, so the fact that some of us don't feel sexual attraction to others (at all, only rarely, or only under specific circumstances) or don't feel romantically drawn to others (at all, only rarely, or only under specific circumstances) is an important fact about us. Having names for our experiences help us to understand ourselves, to connect with each other and share experiences and support, to feel valid and normal when the truth is that we do differ from the majority in a pretty big way.

So here's to everyone on the asexual and aromantic spectrums. It's not all about flags, but sometimes it's worth raising that flag and saying to each other: yes, we're unusual; yes, we face some challenges that we need to help each other with, and yes, we're awesome as we are.

So instead of a gay bar, I propose a Queer Cat Cafe.

There's a section of the cafe where the cats can't go if you don't want cats near you. That section is the library.

There are lil pride flags everywhere, even the obscure ones.

They sell pride pins for £1.50ish each at the counter.

There are LED lights.

It's autism friendly, lights can be toned down if needed and everything is neatly spaced out

Life is not a hurdle race where you run in your neatly-marked lane and achieve your easily-measurable goals and reach the finish line triumphant. It's a crazy hike through bogs and over hilltops and along rocky shorelines. You will wear the wrong shoes. You will take paths which peter out in the woods. You will lose touch with your walking buddies, find new ones, find the old ones again, or walk the whole way alone. And all of us on this crazy hike will take a different path and fall in different muddy holes and find different breathtaking vewpoints.

Don't compare your hike with others. Just keep on walking, and keep your eyes open for the people that make the miles seem shorter and all the things that make you smile.
