i’ve been considering the label frayromantic lately (as well as other ones), and i’ve been looking for definitions/examples of it.
as i was going down that rabbit hole, i found that a lot of people seem to think that frayromantic is “liking the idea of the person and falling in love/being infatuated with that, and then those that love/infatuation once they get to know the person and find out they don’t like who they really are”.
THIS IS NOT TRUE.
frayromantic is being romantically attracted (liking a person/falling in love with a person/etc.) to a person before having a strong bond with them, and as they grow that bond with that person, even if they do like who the person is and that person is awesome and fulfills their needs and etc., they lose those romantic feelings.
i will highlight the very key parts if some of you don’t see the difference: frayromantic is being romantically attracted (liking a person/falling in love with a person/etc.) to a person before having a strong bond with them, and as they grow that bond with that person, even if they do like who the person is and that person is awesome and fulfills their needs and etc., they lose those romantic feelings/attraction. their losing of attraction/feelings is not due to the person’s personality, physical appearance, or anything else like that. it is simply how that works.
and it is NOT falling in love with the idea of them and losing that love when they get to know the person and the person is actually not so good/nice.
alright? does everybody get it now?

Aromantic Flag History
With all the arophobes coming out of the woodworks, I want to share some aromantic history to hopefully brighten your day.
The first use of the term "aromantic" appeared in an AVEN thread in June of 2005. A couple years later, a flag was created by the National Coalition for Aromantic Visibility. It looked like this:
Tumblr media
Green symbolized aromanticism, as green is the opposite of red, and red is sometimes seen as a symbol of romance. Yellow represented platonic love. Orange represented lithromanticism, and black represented anyone who fell under the greyromantic range.
At some point, the aromantic community decided it was time for a change, and thus came the second flag. Created by Cameron Whimsy, this one looks a lot more familiar to the one we see nowadays:
Tumblr media
The two greens represent the spectrum of aromantic identities, yellow represents friendship, and grey and black represent the spectrum of sexual identities in the aromantic community.
While this flag wasn't as widely used as the first, it laid the groundwork for the one we'd come to know and love today. At some point, it was pointed out that the yellow stripe caused sensory issues for some individuals, and as such, it was changed to white.
And now we have the modern aromantic flag we all love! Thanks for reading!

reblog if you're aromantic and not soft or cute or fluffy. i feel like so many aromantic people feel like they need to make themself 'more human' by forcing these qualities onto themselves, and that's fucking sad. you are human. your aromanticism does not make you less human. you do not have to fucking 'redeem' yourself over being aromantic. your anger and your rage and your unapologetic lovelessness and heartlessness are also human. don't hide them in order to appeal to aphobes.
so yeah, reblog if you're aromantic and angry and intense and sharp around the edges and refuse to play the 'acceptable aro' game. i adore you.

Hi, i recently learnt about the terms aro/ace spec and was hoping you could help me figure out which label would best describe me cause it's a little conplicated. To be clear, I've always known how i feel and never felt at odds with it, it's just that i didn't know it had a 'name'. I still don't feel like using a label to describe myself, but I think it might help when talking to other people.
I'm 30 yo and have never been in love or had sex. I've only had a couple of crushes (on men and women) but they were fleeting, almost on a surface level. I'd feel attracted to their looks but not in a sexual way, to their intelligence, their charisma, the way they knew and loved themselves, their kindness, etc. I loved some of them, though not romantically (at least I don't think it was). I think there were a few times in my life when I actually felt a sort of physical/sexual attraction for someone but it didn't last long enough for me to want to act on it. In the last few years I've started feeling like I want to have sex, to experience it, which was weird because I didn't think my libido existed lol but I guess it's called arousal? But I definitely don't want to actually have sex, I find it a bit disgusting really (like even if I tried I couldn't stand anyone touching me; thinking of the sweat, saliva, and other fluids involved definitely kills my interest). I wish to find a companion, someone to love and who loves me back, someone I can share my life with, someone to walk this world with, someone that feels like home for my soul, but when I picture it I don't know if one could describe it as romantic love, but I don't know.
I hope I was clear, english is not my 1st language and sometimes I struggle with vocabulary. Thank you for reading 😊
hi! you can always just use aroace if you wanted, but here are some labels i’ve found that sound like what source described, i recommend reading about any of these further that sound good!
aesthetic attraction- feeling attracted to someone’s looks without any romantic or sexual attraction involved
orchidsexual/romantic- feeling romantic/ sexual attraction but no desire to act on it
greysexual/romantic- feeling romantic/ sexual attraction rarely/ less often than usual
demisexual/romantic- only feeling attraction to someone once an emotional bond is formed
fraysexual/romantic- only feeling attraction until an emotional bond is formed
these are all i could think of for now, if anyone else has other suggestions please feel free to add on! hope this helps!

Cupiofray Pride Flag
Tumblr media
Cupiofray: being cupio- in a fray- way (or being fray- in a cupio- way), or experiencing a mix of the two, or being in the midway between both fray and cupio.
For example, desiring certain forms of relationship while not feeling attraction, then they feel attraction but loose it after an emotional or deep connection with a person; desiring a specific form of relationship even when they are not attracted anymore in the attraction associated with the type of relationship.
It includes mesi/grey areas, depending on the perspectives it could be allospec, aspec, pomospec, quoispec, etc. or simply cupiospec.
