I need you to understand that if I make an OC and ship it with a canon character, I'm not into said character. I don't know what compelled me to do it, but I did, and I played a fool's game and got too attached, so now they're living in my brain and I can't even make them pay rent.

Sometimes i question of i truly am aroace.
I’ve enjoyed for a long time reading fanfics and other pieces of media about romance and sex, and this makes me think that maybe im not aroace, that im just faking it bc i actually like seeing this. I even was in denial i was aroace bc surely aroace ppl don’t enjoy seeing about sex and romance, right?
But i was wrong, and now i always try to remind myself that enjoying content about romance and sex doesn’t make me less aromantic and asexual, especially bc i have no desire on doing any of these things i read (just like how reading about murder doesn’t mean i want to do murder).
I know there are ppl out there who share similar experiences, so just a thing for y’all: enjoying this type of content does not makes you not aroace! Aroace is a spectrum, and each person experience it deferentially! Heck, some aroace people actually do experience some kind of romantic/sexual attraction, or even want to have these, but this doesn’t make them not aroace!! So pls, don’t worry, bc nothing makes anyone less aroace :)
you're definitely valid! if you wanted, here is a label that may fit your experiences:
aegosexual- not feeling sexual attraction, but enjoying sexual media/fantasies that are unrelated to you.
aegoromantic- not feeling romantic attraction, but enjoying romantic media/fantasies that are unrelated to you.

You know that smut you like? Y’know, the really, REALLY good one? You know that one? Yeah?
An asexual wrote that.
And that really good romantic fluff you like? The really cute one, the domestic fluff? Y’know that one?
An aromantic wrote that.
So before you go to sleep reading fanfiction tonight, be sure to thank all the asexuals and aromantics that are writing your favorite fics!
Because no, we are not the pure little children you think we are.
Everybody say thank you a-specs!
Thank you a-specs!
Alright, I’ll let you go now :3

HEY! HEY YOU
if you like using microlabels and feel like they fit you better so that's what you use, YOU ARE VALID!
if you don't like using microlabels and prefer the general labels because that what you feel like fits you better, YOU ARE VALID!
remember, its YOUR box and YOU are the only one who gets to choose how you identify and what labels you use!

some people on here need a gentle reminder that arospecs ARE aromantic. thats the point of the aromantic spectrum. that being aromantic.. is a spectrum. ive had demiromantic people ask me if they can call themselves aromantic. YES OF COURSE YOU CAN YOU ARE AROMANTIC. im sure some people choose to identify more as arospec than aromantic and thats fine, but in general, arospecs ARE aromantic, by virtue of being on the aromantic spectrum. like aromanticism is defined as little to none romantic attraction. the ‘little’ part of that is there for a reason.

here's to the romance repulsed aromantics. not wanting to date or have a marriage or partnership is okay. it's not unhealthy, shameful or bad to enjoy being single and wanting to stay that way. not wanting to be involved in discussions about romance or other peoples' romantic lives is not a personal attack against the people who have them. not wanting to be touched, called pet names or shown affection is a proper boundary to establish if that's how you feel. not having an interest in fictional romances (romantic comedies, shipping, etc.). is not a moral failing. not wanting to be near or witnessing romantic displays, fictional or real does not make you an asshole.
you are allowed to assert what oversteps your boundaries. you are allowed to curate your experience online and have conversations with those you interact with in real life about your boundaries. you do not owe the world romance or time and attention for it when your needs aren't being met. your experience as an aromantic person deserves to be positive when and where possible, just like anyone else's- you do not deserve to be uncomfortable

I just learned the terms aegoromantic and aegosexual, and they fit me 100%.
I despise looking in the normal aroace, aromantic, and asexual tags because they're filled with posts about hatred for shipping, which is the thing I find most comforting in my life.
I don't fit in with most aroaces because of my love for fictional relationships, and it bothers me that I can't look at a majority of posts about my own orientation without getting upset. But now I'm exclusively using the aego tags when searching. I've found my people. 🥰
When telling the average person what my orientation is, I'll still say aroace, and even that's confusing for some people. But to be more specific, I'm aegoromantic aegosexual. I don't want a relationship or sex for myself, but imagining fictional characters together makes me extremely happy.
I also like that I can use one flag that shows the asexual and aromantic ones together, because I'm not a fan of the aroace one, but adore the individual ones. (Not sure which of these is more accurate or if it matters.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you're someone on the asexual and/or aromantic spectrum who doesn't relate to this, please be nice or just ignore! You probably wanna block someone like me anyway, whose blog is revolved around shipping.
But we're all valid members of the community and deserve to find exactly where we fit in. I'm hoping this post will help others like me who weren't aware of these terms and may want to use them.
You can be completely against romance and/or sex for yourself while still enjoying shipping, romantic songs, Valentine's Day, etc. ♥️

does anyone else just say the "simpler" version of their identity? like saying i'm a trans aroace gay sounds more simply then saying i'm gendersatyret, genderfaunet, polysexual, oriented aroace, aegoromantic and cupioromantic.
