Considering WB is doing almost nothing to promote DC's Blue Beetle after three back-to-back-to-back box office failures, let this post be a reminder that Blue Beetle is just over a month away!! If you want to know why you should support this upcoming DC movie, here's why: ⹠Blue Beetle is the first live action Latino superhero film ⹠The film stars Cobra Kai's Xolo Maridueña as Jaime Reyes, Singer and Actress Becky G as the voice of the Scarab and George Lopez as Jaime's crazy uncle Rudy. ⹠Blue Beetle is the first character in DC Studios' DCU timeline, as confirmed by DC Studios Co-Owner James Gunn ⹠As stated above, Blue Beetle is part of the DCU world filled with superheroes. However, and thankfully, the past DCEU films are not relevant at all to Blue Beetle -- as confirmed by the movie's director Angel Manuel Soto. ⹠Blue Beetle was made as "the first act of a saga" and is currently planned to have a trilogy, assuming the first film does well. ⹠The Hollywood Reporter's sources believe that if Blue Beetle does do well and if it ends up getting a positive reception, Xolo Mariduena's Blue Beetle can end up appearing in the upcoming Booster Gold show. Support DC's Blue Beetle, y'all.

đTeam Interview- Walking Through the Wreckage đ
@breakingthespacetimewall: I kinda helped choosing the villain of the story and the characters that would show up. Having trans heroes kicking nazi villains butts is something that I would love to see everyday in comics(and real life). This story was planned before the USA elections result but now than never I think it really says a lot about today with past enemies coming back with their old ideas but new technologies and while we donât have superpowers we too learned new ways to fight. My favorite part to illustrate was all the panels with Kate, I really liked the design I come to her and specially her nose that I had a certain way to draw. But I just love drawing comics so is always a pleasure when I have the time and capacity to do so.
Here is a panel they've chosen to share!
@www-wonderfulmistakes: I was initially inspired to write this story after first learning about Kate Godwin. As DC Pride seemed to be a success to DC Comics and therefore more of a priority, they thankfully started showcasing the talent who had contributed to the queer characters in their stable as a result, the late Rachel Pollack and Kate being among them. Kate had significance as being the first trans superhero from either of the âBig Twoâ comic publishers, as well as the first created by an actual trans woman in Rachel Pollack. Having learned through research that Kate was unceremoniously killed off in a past Doom Patrol run pre-New 52/DC Universe Reboot, I was delighted to see her resurrection in the 2024 DC Pride: A Tribute to Rachel Pollack One-Shot story âShining Through The Wreckage.â Wanting to see more of her, I immediately dove into Rachel Pollackâs run on the second volume of Doom Patrol.
Admittedly, Doom Patrol running with the bizarre concepts that it usually does as well as being 30 years old, there are moments where the run shows itâs age, but Kate was imbued with a sense of self-confidence, humor and humanity that I think is noteworthy even today, no doubt informed by Rachel Pollackâs lived experience. I was excited and had questions after âShining Through The Wreckageâ and immediately wanted more: what would life be like for as a trans woman like Kate, to effectively die and then come back after two decades (give or take how time actually passes in these comics) and see how things have and havenât improved? I thought bringing back one of Rachel Pollackâs, a trailblazing writer and creative, most notable creations not long after her death (in the pages of a comic specifically designed to highlight and showcase her contributions, and written by her friends no less!) was significant, and was disappointed in that there have been no further announcements on what is going on with Kate, or the Doom Patrol in general, since then. This story to me is a lot of things: it is an escapist fantasy in the way a lot of superhero stories are (in the specific scenario where a group of superpowered trans women joined forces to defeat and humiliate a Nazi; I have to credit my collaborator lady G, as it was her ideas to both have Degaton as the main villain and bring Dreamer, Galaxy and Circuit Breaker into the story. However, when people read it, I hope that their takeaway is that these are actions that can be performed in real life as well: listening to, uplifting trans women, and allowing them to be angry and voice that is something that we should be doing in real life. We should be fighting and humiliating those who would call themselves Nazis at every turn.
I think I can narrow my favorite part down to two! The first being the opening conversation and walk with Kate and CliffâŠtheir dynamic and relationship was a central point of Rachel Pollackâs Doom Patrol run. I was really impressed and delighted by how much their relationship defied easy classification. I think itâs important to have a reminder (in and out of queer spaces) that labels are not the end-all be-all of the queer experience, and they should never hinder more than they help: they ideally should only go so far as whatever works for the people involved in a given relationship. I think Kate and Cliff embody that really well: you donât need to put a label on the relationship to know that they care about each other in ways that both leans platonic and goes outside of heteronormative standards. As I said earlier, of course there are parts of both Pollackâs run and Kate & Cliffâs relationship there are dated, including some moments that involve blatant transphobia from Cliff directed at Kate that never really got a full resolution, so one of my priorities in writing this story was to at least try to clear the air about that. I wanted to address it in a way that I didnât trust corporate DC Comics too. (Cliff owed Kate an apology at the bare minimum! Even if he wasnât entitled to her forgiveness, he needed to make that attempt!!) Iâd say my second favorite part of the story would be the general team up at the end, especially Kate touching base with Galaxy. The 2023 DC Pride special included a few pages with text columns giving thanks for Rachel Pollack and her contributions and one of these columns was written by Galaxyâs creator, Jadzia Axelrod. Among other things, Axelrod went on to say how seeing Kate as a teenager showed her that a lesbian trans woman could be a hero, a viewpoint character, and live a good life.

I canât view Batman/Bruce as a real hero
So Iâve gotten into DC recently, or more specifically Iâve gotten into the Batfam, and the more I learn about Bruce Wayne the harder it is for me to look to him as a hero.
Iâll preface all this by saying I have consumed very little DC content, so if something I say is not actually canon pls let me know.
It started when I learned that this man seemingly has an absolute no kill rule. Not a âI try to avoid killing and only do it when absolutely necessaryâ rule, but a âI refuse to kill anyone no matter the circumstancesâ rule. I honestly hate this because itâs not effective in any way. Take the Joker for example, Batman has to fight him over and over again because they simply cannot seem to keep that man in prison and Batman wonât kill him or let anyone else do it. I think this is because he wants to believe that anyone can change, and they can, but just because they CAN doesnât mean that they WILL. People have to choose to change and the Joker has had like 30 chances to do so, yet he continues to kill innocent people. How many innocents have to die before someone acknowledges that the Joker will never choose to be a better person and finally decide to do whatâs necessary to protect everyone? They either need to find a way to keep him in jail or just take him out.
This got worse when I learned about Jason Todd. Here you have a poor boy taken in by Bruce, who idealizes him and views him as a father, and when he gets kidnapped, tortured, and murdered by the Joker he dies alone. When he is brought back to life, heâs mad at Bruce, not because Bruce didnât save him, but Bruce didnât kill the Joker to avenge him. Because Bruce didnât love him more than he loved Justice. Hell, even on his grave, âA good soldierâ. Iâve seen ppl say that maybe he didnât say son because he didnât want to erase their family ties and the kids never took his last name and sure, I get that. But putting a good soldier instead? He didnât have to do that. Jason wasnât a soldier, he was a little boy. It seems like Bruce forgets that about the Robins sometimes. (None of this is even getting into my feelings about Bruce taking in multiple children and having them fight crime, literally risking their lives every night but then this rant would be even longer)
And apparently Bruce fucking decks Dick because Dick was asking him why he let him become Robin before he was ready? Bro cannot take any criticism for his actions I swear. I mean, even if he never officially adopts them (Iâm very confused on that tbh) he does still view them as his kids. He still helped raise them. After all, they were all underage when he met them and took them in. So to straight up deck your eldest and tell him to get out literally right after your other kid was murdered solely because he questioned you is actually wild.
Then you have the whole batarang incident, which just makes me question his morals more because heâs got the whole âno killing whatsoeverâ thing going on but then decides, âI wonât kill the man who murdered my son and countless other innocents, but I can and will slit my sonâs throat and leave him for dead.â Like, HUH??? Also, didnât Dick accidentally kill the Joker once and Bruce went out of his way to REVIVE HIM? Honestly feels like Bruce has some weird relationship with the Joker cause he seems to care about him more than anything. LET THAT MONSTER DIE!
I saw someone say that they thought the âno killingâ thing wasnât effective but was accurate to Bruceâs character because his vigilanteism isnât actually mainly about helping but about punishing himself for what happened to his parents. And if you kill the villains when you need to, you canât keep punishing yourself through fighting them. Like a self-sabotage thing. I thought that was super interesting but it would also just go along with him not being a truly effective hero, cause he wonât make the hard calls that are sometimes needed.
In conclusion, while I am sure Bruce has done good for people, itâs hard to see him as a truly effective hero (or a good person/father for that matter) when he does stuff like this.

what kinda media would you say like. embodies the aesthetic/parts of the aesthetic that your blog has? i reeeeally wanna immerse myself in this kinda stuff lol
gooddddd question
90s action anime like YuYu Hakusho, Dragon Ball Z, Outlaw Star, and G Gundam
miscellaneous 2000s anime like Haibane Renmei, Lucky Star, Bleach, and Death Note
esoteric spiritual cyberpunk anime like Ghost in the Shell, Serial Experiments Lain, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Ergo Proxy
SNES games, especially RPGs
GBA games and occasionally the original GameBoy and GameBoy Color
the original Xbox and PlayStation both deserve special mention as being my favorites, although the PS2 is fantastic as well
I sometimes reblog GameCube and N64 stuff, but my opinion of them as consoles is much lower than any of the previously mentioned, so do with that information what you will
games made in the style of older games are always a win but boomer shooters especially, primarily ones made to emulate the style of Build engine games like Duke Nukem 3D because I hate how FPS games before that all take place in abstract mazes
Mullet MadJack is a boomer shooter with 90s anime shades so like, that really rocked my shit
look up issues of Dragon, the old Dungeons & Dragons magazine - the aesthetic between those pages are sacred to me, especially the 90s issues
comic books from the 70s through the 90s; Marvel especially in the 70s and 80s, but I like both them and DC about equally in the 90s
Invader Zim, the 90s Men in Black cartoon, the 90s Ghostbusters cartoon, Batman Beyond
Unsolved Mysteries with Robert Stack and In Search of... with Leonard Nimoy, accept no substitutes
paranormal documentaries from the seventies, eighties, and nineties in general
Deep Space 9, The X-Files, Angel, early Smallville
weird fantasy like Morrowind, Elden Ring, and Fear & Hunger
Blue Oyster Cult, especially Veteran of the Psychic Wars and Harvest Moon
Britney Spears and Avril Lavigne
Falling in Reverse up to like 2015, Hinder, any band that was real popular with the AMV community in the late 2000s and early 2010s like Three Days Grace
Arctic Monkeys, Tub Ring
This House Has People In It, People Still Live Here, Joel G's ENA,
I hate how Petscop and 3D Workers Island end but they are sigh extremely my shit
House of Leaves if you only read the documentary parts because everything else is terrible
MyHouse.wad on the other hand is immaculate

love the fact that tim drakeâs vulnerabilities and mental health are more explored in the fan fics but he is unfortunately, somewhat suave canonically and is skilled at harbouring all the trauma or atleast intellectualising it rather than giving himself a moment to just feel the emotions (atleast that is my impression from the haze of memories). usually the fanfics depict him as someone unable to control his vulnerabilities and thereâs nothing wrong about that but part of the reason that he doesnât get much opportunity to be outright vulnerable is bc he is a skilled navigator among ppl and convos. the boy literally knows and analyses any thought/emotion that pops into his mind, heâs obsessed with his ability to manage it all.
i think the main emotion he suppresses is guilt and bc heâs objective enough to understand that under this line of work, there is technically no point in feeling the guilt, itâs disregarded and builds up. guilt about his responsibilities as a vigilante, for potentially endangering the lives of the civilians he loves, the overwhelming pressure to please everyone in both sectors of his life. heâs mature for his age, something thatâs acknowledged by his family and surroundings and somewhat by himself as well. he doesnât let himself linger on disappointment towards others as often as he should and moves onto what is under his control immediately.
thatâs always been his biggest coping mechanism, control. tim doesnât dwell, he has enough awareness of the world and his position in it to not constantly be reacting instead of just acting. i think thatâs why him and stephâs differences in social backgrounds didnât hinder the relationship bc he is generally a smart and self aware guy and can empathise with others while sticking to his moral grounds.
stephâs introduction into his life helped tipped the balance he so proficiently curated on the matters of heart vs head. itâs simple around her. yes, he feels a responsibility to keep her out of vigilante life as batmanâs protege but she expects nothing from him (at first) and he likes that. thatâs not to say that he didnât fulfil any boyfriend responsibilities (he literally was there to help her deliver her baby) but she likes him for all he is and he does the same and everything else comes naturally and out of duty of the heart.
i think after war games and all, we obviously see him transform more and more into Batman. his civilian life that used to be as equal and important as robin became more withdrawn, a little less genuine and more tactic based? it was an understandable progression given all the losses he had been dealt with. the charms that came from him as a well-rounded person with academic/emotional intelligence were sort of lessened to tools to help enhance robin/red robinâs missions rather than.. ykno.. actually make good connections with people.
canât say much bout the new52/rebirth as i hadnât taken in much of Timâs characters as vividly as his 90s series.. but i do commend the dc writers on letting Tim talk about how much he likes bernard and why.. feel like the last few timsteph content (minus some of the yj stuff) started to feel stale and was just Steph sulking around him (pls donât hate meeee, there were cute moments but i missed the tension and chemistry from their original run)
i think heâs an incredibly interesting character and if there are to be any other live action depictions, Iâd rather they take inspo from the robin series than anything else. let him be the well-liked guy who seems to be doing well in everything and then we can dive into the dynamics with his father, with Batman and other authorities in his life.
also i reckon if damian hadnât met Tim through his connection to Batman, he wouldâve had similar kind of dynamic as he does with dick đ idk i love looking at the parallels b/w tim and dick. tim wouldnât obv give as much grace to damian as dick does, nor can he intimidate him through any means of physical combat like jason (i giggled writing this bc Damian doesnt take Jason seriously but atleast theyâre both aware that they both need to reel in the violence). idkidk theyâd have a fun back and forth relationship and Tim being the strategist he is would put Damianâs strengths to good use and Damian would respect that.
ok let me stop this rant once and for all bc i have actual tasks i need to get done but i lauv tim drake if u couldnât tell! if there are any points of this essay that doesnât make sense, thatâs fair bc pls let me reiterate that my memory is not the strongest soldier and i could be mixing iterations of tim from all places saur yeahhh

My Favorite Comics of 2023
Sometimes I think I should review all the comics I read as I read them. Then I realize I read like...40 comics a month and decide to not do that. But I figured I could at least round up my favorite books of 2023!
So as not to bury the lede...
My Favorite Comic of 2023: Green Arrow
Was there ever any question? All I have ever wanted for like 20 years at this point is Arrowfamily shenanigans, and this book has been all about reassembling the gang and letting them romp through the DC universe. This is an Ollie who is overflowing with love and bad ideas, and that's perfect. Every character and relationship has gotten a chance to shine so far, and I can't wait until they bring the girls in. I especially love how clear it is that Roy is Williamson and Izaakse's favorite. ME TOO, GUYS, ME TOO. The fact that this is now an ongoing instead of a limited series is the best gift DC could have given me.
The rest of my faves...
Alan Scott: The Green Lantern: I did not expect to be as moved by this book as I am. The overall plot is a bit hard to follow, but that's not really the point of the comic. What blows me away every issue is how unflinching and occasionally brutal the book is in its portrayal of 1940s-era homophobia, including Alan's internalized self-hatred, and yet how simultaneously incredibly kind the book is. The love and validation, especially in #2 and #3, is so generous and beautiful. Also, it's the best and most beautiful I've ever see Cian Tormey's art look - he gives everything such a hazy, heartbreaking softness here. Please read this book.
Batman/Superman: World's Finest: This continues to be one of the most enjoyable books DC is putting out right now. Mora is one of those artists, like Doc Shaner, who draws the DC universe exactly 100% the way it looks in my hindbrain, and Waid is absolutely in his sweet spot of classic heroes, Silver Age lore, and extremely comic book-y adventure. Plus, Tamra Bonvillain is doing that thing she does with colors that taps directly into the happiness center of my brain - they are so rich and sunny and joyful.
Birds of Prey: I love everything Kelly Thompson writes and I'm so glad we finally have her at DC. She is the absolute perfect writer for this book, too - she gives such good superheroine. The banter! The action! The way she mixes and matches her cast in such fun combinations! Leonardo Romero's layouts are so kinetic and fun, and Jordie Bellaire's colors, YOU GUYS, JORDIE BELLAIRE'S FUNKY SEVENTIES COLORS! I can hear the soundtrack of this book. Love love love.
The Flash: To be clear, I mean the Jeremy Adams run that ended earlier this year with #800. I will forever be salty that DC canceled this delightful book, which was all of the action and humor and heart and love of continuity that I crave in comics, in favor of the so far completely mid Spurrier series. RIP Adams run, you were too good for this world.
Fire & Ice: Welcome to Smallville: This book got off to a slightly slow start, in my opinion, but every issue just gets better and better. It is so funny, and I want Natacha Bustos to design every outfit I ever wear for the rest of my life. Plus, Tamra Bonvillain is doing the color thing here, too! I want to live in her world.
Poison Ivy: I trust G. Willow Wilson with my life. This is such a good, complex, nuanced take on Ivy. (Also messy and poly and queer.) I have no idea where this story is going but I'm on this ride 'til the end.
And finally...
Favorite Backlist Title: Starman (1994): You guys. YOU GUYS. I mainlined all 80 issues of this series this year at an absolutely blistering pace because I did not want to stop reading it for even a single second. It's everything I love about comics: truly serialized storytelling with a huge cast and lots of intertwining subplots, tons of twists and foreshadowing that pay off in immensely satisfying ways, a deep dive into continuity that's still accessible to people who know almost nothing about Starman (me), a love letter to a fictionopolis, and one funky little dude trying his best at the center of it. I am BEGGING you to read Starman. Please.

Thoughts on One Piece Live Action Trailer from a biased fangirl
First of all let me be clear, I am deaf, dumb and blind to One Piece Live Action complains; that are mean and hateful for the sake of hating. I grew up with censored One Piece episodes and terrible dubs.
I am immune.
youtube
My instant reaction after watching the trailer
A) I like it.
B) I am drooling after that 3 seconds of Taz, and brooding Mackneyu. But I am excited for Inaki, he is Luffy; the energy, goofiness and the voice!
C) Emily is like the bestest!
D) Not enough Jacob!
I am hyped none the less!
Was it a perfect trailer?
Absolutely not.
Was it a good trailer?
Yes!
It is fun, goofy and it captured the spirit of One Pieceâ promise of an epic ADVENTURE.
Yes, Some things in trailer bothered me, like a lot, but if I can read 1086 chapters of a manga for last ten years and watch 1066 episodes for last eighteen years, I can patiently wait to judge all 8 episodes.
Things we the diehard fans need to remember!
Anime and Manga scenes and actions canât be replicated entirely! And we fans will only complain if its frame by frame copy-adaptation; because thatâs not how it works.
Please remember it is the same story told on a different medium! People will take liberties with it.
And the CGI work is still not over; so even before you crib about it: STOP!
We really need to control our innate distrust for adaptation. Yes Hollywood has terrible track record.
Trust in Goda!
But I am choosing to trust Odachii! He green lit the adaptation in 2017! It is 2023, if he didnât approve we wouldnât have witnessed a single poster of the Live-in adaptation! No one is more protective of One Piece than Odachii!
Luffy has his scar!

Yes, some changes can bother us, like initially I thought Luffy didnât have his scar, but after zooming on Inakiâs face on HD screen; I found the scar!
But Sanjiâs Eyebrows: sssssh!

Sanjiâs missing eyebrows is a point of contention for many, but again things that donât serve narrative with an active purpose can go; you have to understand things get changed; Sanjiâs perv gag is getting dropped too. I canât wait to meet the Sanji of my dreams!
Merry Go looks terrifying!

I agree, I love it. But I think Merry needs exorcism too! Merry Looks scared as hell! This is Merryâs true face that has been terrorised by Luffyâs recklessness!
Wrong shoes UmU
Similarly Luffyâs flip-flops, as long as that wild child is wearing something on his feet, its fine. I mean look at the shoes he is wearing; itâs ridiculous!
Usoppâs Nose

Donât drag Usoppâs nose into this. All of us wouldâve hated a prosthetic nose on Jacob! You know it! You donât want him to look like a copy of a copy of Pinocchio!
Namiâs Hair!

It looks okay, you all are nitpicking now! I swear, it looks alright.
Buggy-sama looks scary, duh he is a clown!

People complaining that Buggy-sama looks scary, in East Blue! Buggy-sama after his debut Was Scary! Have you ever seen a funny looking Clown ever? All clowns look scary!
I literally lured and convinced my horror addict sister to watch One Piece, because of this horrific looking Buggy-sama! I lied through my teeth that Buggy-Sama is the final boss of One Piece! Now she will watch the live action!
Yellow filter! Do you want DCU dark screen?
And the complaint about yellow filter! Look, I would take a Yellow screen over a DC black screen any day! Many wanted the GOT and LOTR cinematic treatment, I understand, but itâs not the same story elements, our protagonist is a rubber-man; our universe is colourful, set on the sea, what we can hope and aspire for is Pirates of the Caribbean treatment for the Fishmen CGI.

And remember, Luffy yelling Gum-Gum Pistol is the English translation of Gomu-Gomu no pistol! You canât expect Inaki to yell Gomu-Gomu no pistol, while his entire angry fight speech is in English. That would be weird. And many didnât like the pistol reveal because of how it looked. In every version of realismâ stretched human skin will look weird!
Some things look great in manga art and anime frames but translate poorly in realism; I think we had already learned it the hard way! The cosplayish cinematography worked for Gintama Live Action but didnât go well with Fullmetal Alchemist. Again the grim-gray thematic elements worked for Bleach Live In!
I think this version of One Piece is working well so far. And it was just teaser! We have 6 arcs to see!
Yes, be skeptical, but of Netflix, not cast and crew and creators!
I have told this before, I have faith in the cast and the crew and the creators. My trust issues lies with Netflix. I wouldâve been happier if it was Prime who was producing it or even HBO, as they seem more committed to a project.
Netflix has terrible track record of cancellation.
And One Piece is a long time commitment, I donât think Netflix has the bandwidth or the brains or the money to produce 31+ Arcs! We know none of the canon arcs can be dropped. So their only way out is to build up the hype of the finale arc from second season itself. And do enough bread crumbing and introduce certain supernovas, warlords, yonkos, gorosei, races and other important figures early into the story instead of keeping them for surprise element, which can help them plan for long time. Not only that they have to give us glimpses into the various crimes and atrocities and political happenings across the Grandline parallel to Strawhats journey so that the emotional build up happens graduallyâ expecting viewers to care about an island and its characters all of a sudden when the Crew arrives to a new island will be tricky. It is much better to constantly tell the viewers of things happening simultaneously so that when Luffy arrives to beat Crocâs or later Doffyâs assâ audience already hates them. They donât even have to reveal the face of the villains, but build up the lore well.
Will stupid Netflix do it?
I donât think so!
Stop the bloody hateful comments
Stop hating on the cast! I donât think we have any right to bully or be mean or outright hateful to the actors! Time and again they have proved how much they love One Piece. Being mean doesnât make you the cool or smarter person you think you are.
After watching/reading a series that always emphasized on doing the right thing and fighting against bullies, you all havenât learned anything.
Donât like it? Donât watch it!
Is the Live Action stealing away from your years of rich One Piece experience?
No!
The manga is here, the anime is here, the games are here, the musicals are here, so are the ice-skating shows!
No adaptation is hurting the other!
This is just another medium to tell the story, now to non-manga readers/non-anime watching people!
I donât play One Piece games, nor do I like how some game designs are, do I go an shit talk about it?
Nope.
I love the Sandman comic books, I was not happy with changes made in the live action adaptation, did I go demand receipts for changes made to the story?
No!
Because I know itâs impossible to please everyone, how hard it is to ignore something that bothers you?
If you bully the cast! I will curse you!
If you bully Inaki, Emily, Mackenyu, Taz and Jacob; I hope your toe cuticles itch all the time and your ear buzzes whenever you try to sleep!
And look how the cast cares about the story! Look at them! How dare you try to bully them!

If you follow Artur - The Library Of Oharaâs page on Twitter you will see how much effort has gone into detailing. From Luffyâs attire to Baratieâs lighting.

The series is made of love and respect for the source material. If they are diverting or changing somethingâ remember Odachii agreed to it!
youtube
I mean look at them! They are precious!
Starving man never looked so fine. đ« đ« đ« đ« đ« đ« . One Piece Live Action serving Zoro to us in all his glory. And before Dudebros even start Sanji vs Zoro.
They were never cast for you, they were cast for women and queer fans. They are not representative of your imagined cis-het male idea of hyper masculinity!
They are for us!

Woman tired of her dumbass captain! This girl is going to kick ass and steal your money! She ate her role! And she will rule the screen!

We must protect Usopp! Look at this baby! Look at him! He is the bravest person in the entire world!

This the Sanji I am shamelessly looking forward to! Never will he beat babygirl allegations! And he is such a walking disaster bi energy already! And he is not limited by his perv gag!
The perfect man is here!

Look at him! How he shines like the sun! Look at his silly shoes in the trailer! This silly silly silly boy!

Hey thatâs my favourite idiot. Look at him, heading to some dumbassery with the confidence exhibited by the baby from Babyâs Day Out film.

Damnnnn it! Why canât I upload more than 10 pictures from the app? Finally, from the web version I could uploaad it all!
Anyway, practice love not hate! Peace out!

The media and our institutions want you to believe that the Pro-Palestine protests on campuses across America are a dangerous place for Jews and students.
But these protests are Love, Community, and Resistance.
Here are some things that my friends and I participated in while we were there last night:
The crowd formed a circle around the Muslim attendees while they prayed at sundown. I got emotional as I looked at the sunset, side by side with my friends and other allies, understanding the power of what was going on behind me.
Then the crowd said the prayers for Shabbat as the candles were lit and bds-approved Matzah was served because itâs Shabbat and also Passover. It meant a lot to me to sing the prayers from my upbringing in the Jewish community in this space. I have struggled with my religious identity my whole life, but I am certain that the G-d I learned about in Sunday school would never ever believe genocide is justified. That G-d would not want us to turn against our neighbors and hate people who are different from us. I can only sing these prayers in this community now.
Then women from Harrietâs Wildest Dreams, a Black-led community defense hub in DC led songs of freedom.
These protests are community care. They are love. These student encampments are a vision of the beautiful world we want to live in: side by side, in community. In support and peace and cultural traditions and love and religion and humanity.
Do not let anyone tell you this should be feared.
We must follow the example of these students to fight against the institutions that tell us this division, this devastation, this dehumanization, and these wars are essential. They are not. They never have been.
Every day that the United States government financially and vehemently supports Israelâs actions in Gaza, we lose hundreds of more innocent people. Families, teachers, students, doctors, chefs, men, women, children, babies
PEOPLE
PEOPLE
PEOPLE.
Where is our humanity?

DCEU Rewatch Rant Hour
With 100% DCU stuff (like Creature Commandos and Superman promo) finally coming out and my year-end work break starting, I realised this was the time to finally stop postponing watching the rest of the DCEU (especially since some of it is actually still canon and actively being referenced). And, since I'm already here, why not rewatch the whole thing!
This is actually not a liveblog, since I'm making my brother and my friend (user getawaykiss) watch the thing with me, but after each film I'm coming here to rant about how I feel about them now, in this day and age.
So, first offender:
Man of Steel (2013)
Except I lied! First I'm gonna talk about the Man of Steel Prequel comic! That's right, I'm including fucking extra material on this rewatch!!
so, the thing is on rco if you're interested in it, and it is pretty interesting! it stars kara!!!!! it was clearly written with the intention to be not only canon but relevant, which sounds crazy now but was pretty common back in the day. the mcu did it loads. it's actually not that different from what the dcu is trying to do with animations, if you think about it.
but considering kara is blonde in it it clearly didn't hold up.
anyway, there's a whole plot involving murder in the jungle and then something that's basically that one chris pratt/jlaw film but not treated as romantic. but what's relevant is that kara is a pilot leading a mission to terraform and colonise another planet, who ends up actually landing on earth for reasons. and her ship is, in fact, that one in the film that the military finds in the ice and then clark and lois get into (and then becomes the fortress of solitude??? i think???). anyway, kara survives the landing and goes out wandering the arctic, and that's the last we see of her. going by the film, this happened over 18000 years ago, though, so i guess there were no plans to have supergirl on the big screen then. but anyway, kara was actually super relevant for the mos plot! technically! oh and they also mention thanagar!!!! they call it "barbaric", but idk enough about the hawks to have an opinion on this.
so, did i like it? eh, it's ok. it's a bit rushed, but prequel comics usually are. i'm glad i've only read it now, because it makes it seem like kara is going to be relevant for the franchise and i'd be soo disappointed she wasn't. though i guess she ended up being even more relevant than they intended to while writing that, considering she at least shows up on-screen. but i'd like to pretend the comic is still canon and that blonde kara zor-el from thousands of years ago is just a distant relative, that maybe even inspired the name the later zor-el gave to his daughter.
the pilot-on-a-mission background is really interesting, though, i'd love to see it explored in an alternative universe. maybe they could do something similar in absolute? idk much about absolute krypton, but the darker tone fits, at least.
now for the actual film!
==
oh god it's so bad. i know this is exactly why they gave it to him but jesus fucking christ zack snyder SHOULD NOT be trust with a superman film. he did not want to be making a superman film, he wanted to be making fucking independence day or whatever. it has so many unnecessary stuff, like the action scene in krypton (it could've easily just been what jor-el shows clark in the ship later on, but then we wouldn't have the alien dragon and the magical engraved skull!!) and all the army stuff, oh my god, there was so much army stuff - and yet no army brat lois????? which is literally the only thing the army should have to do with superman???? and is so important to lois' personality???? must be why she doesn't have any.
though, to be fair, clark has even less. the flashbacks and the scenes with martha are doing so much heavy lifting, holy fuck, this man does not have a personality, we don't know fucking anything about him!!! half of the film is him wandering around and doing random things with random people, and the only one that actually gives him any depth is the truck thing - which ironically happens off-screen, and which was done SO much better in superman ii. like, i get the odd jobs montage was supposed to show how he can't help but help people, but there were so many ways you could've done this better. not to mention they then turn around and have him actually save people in the suit like fucking three times total???? he saves an army guy, and lois (maybe twice) and then the family zod was going to kill, and that was fucking IT!!!!!!! and he's so absurdly careless while battling zod, destroying buildings full of people like it's nothing instead of just taking the fight somewhere else (like he did in superman ii), and yet you still have zod going "oh if you care so much about these people-" like, i don't think he does, actually!!
in fact, throughout the entire film, everyone - even clark, when he's with lois at the cemetery - keeps telling us how bad the people of earth are, and how badly they're going to treat him if they know he exists, and maybe he should just let a bus full of kids drown and his own dad walk into a tornado, because people just fucking suck and can't be trusted! and then!! it never makes a point of disproving this!!!!! the closest thing there is, i guess, is the scenes with the daily planet staff helping each other scape the rubble, but that's just them taking care of their own. and it even makes a point to end with the army trying to track him, like akldslfn imagine making a fucking superman film where the underlining message is that humans are awful, i-

and the thing is, we are sometimes!! but not all the time!!! and superman should be about how there's times we aren't!!! how humans can be Good, Actually!!!!!!!! but no, the film decides to go out of its way to make superman's relationship with humans the worst possible! pa kent was a weirdo who wanted kids to drown, the general public first ever hears of superman when being collectively threatened by zod because of him (and this is something i ranted extensively about when i first watched mos back in 2015), even the excessive focus on the army (a bunch of original characters, mind you, not even relevant ones like general lane, because god forbid we actually develop superman's supporting cast) serves to constantly reminds us of the specific subsect of people who trust superman the least.
honestly, people made such a fuss over the absolute wrong things with this film. i don't care if he doesn't smile much, i'd be fine with a more serious superman if he at least had some personality and didn't make me wonder whether he actually enjoys the human race! i don't even care if he kills zod!! like, if you suspend your disbelief enough to ignore how that family could absolutely get out of the way on their own, that's one of the only good scenes for clark, character-wise! we see him care for humans, we see him care even for his enemy, we see him sacrifice his own innocence to save the innocent, we see his absolute despair at taking a life! it's good!!!! it's just a pity it comes right after he destroyed entire city blocks without a care in the world just to throw a few punches.
and the funny thing is, this film is pretty clearly a remake of superman i-ii, some scenes are even direct references. and it improves on in it in absolutely no way other than visually. and that's saying something, because as much as i love the original superman films there's so much in them that doesn't make a single bit of sense, but mos doesn't even far that much better (why the fuck did zod want lois on the ship???????????). this film is just. so empty. the characters have no actual substance, it's all made just to look cool!!1! (and nothing sums this up better than all the fucking christ imagery, but that's a whole other conversation)
also their clois has the least chemistry of all live-action, which is a crime in and of itself. didn't even have an identity porn era, probably because they thought the disguise was dumb. preposterous.
but it's not all bad! it has a bunch of cool/pretty scenes for giffing! henry looks so good with his lil curls! and, ok, if there's one genuine compliment i can make this film: i absolutely adore clark's relationship with his mom. both of them, actually, lara's brief appearance was great! but all of his scenes with martha are just amazing, the one where he beats the shit out of zod for threatening her is a personal favourite. it cannot be said they didn't give us momma's boy clark kent, at the very least.

DC's Blue Beetle has officially debuted with a 94%(!!!) audience score on Rotten Tomatoes!
As I said in so many other posts: Please go out and watch Blue Beetle with your friends and family. As the first live-action Latino superhero film, the representation that it's bringing is such a warm welcome and no matter what people say, we need more superhero projects that represent massive cultures to have amazing lighthearted success stories now more than ever. Let Blue Beetle be the beginning of this amazing trend of these incredibly important films overcoming all of the odds no matter how many people choose to immediately write it off. And if that's not a good enough reason, here's multiple reasons why you should join the Blue Beetle Battalion by watching Blue Beetle in theaters:
Blue Beetle is the first live action Latino superhero film.
The film stars Cobra Kai's Xolo Maridueña as Jaime Reyes, Singer and Actress Becky G as the voice of the Scarab and George Lopez as Jaime's crazy uncle Rudy.
Blue Beetle is the first character in DC Studios' DCU timeline, as confirmed by DC Studios Co-Owner James Gunn
Blue Beetle was made as "the first act of a saga" and is currently planned to have a trilogy, assuming the first film does well.
Blue Beetle's Director, Angel Manuel Soto, prioritized real locations and practical effects for Blue Beetle, stating VFX is "a tool, not a dependency."
Blue Beetle's Director also didn't overwork the movie's VFX workers, which is a very common problem in the movie industry, stating "We didn't want to exploit the VFX artists as much as they have already been exploited. And using real locations allowed us to have better integration of the practical suits, so the VFX serve as an enhancement. It's a tool, not a dependency, and that really helped to make this whole thing feel bigger than life. We shot the third act in a real 500-year-old fortress in Puerto Rico. The communities depicted weren't a set. We went to the barrios of Puerto Rico and shot there. A lot of the people in the background are people from that community. So being able to make the film as lived in as possible felt worthy of the big screen experience."
Blue Beetle's Director also supports the ongoing strike and had this to say about the entire cast of Blue Beetle striking throughout its press run: "I do believe that the strike needed to happen. I wish it happened after the release of our movie, but at the end of the day, there's no better time than now. So, having them actually sacrifice this opportunity to be on the picket line and to fight for a better future â not only for them, but also to secure something better for future generations to come â is a heroic act of its own. So I'm celebrating them through their sacrifice in this moment, while also honoring the amazing work that they did. Representing them gives me the energy to continue doing this."
There is a genuine possibility that Xolo Mariduena's Blue Beetle can end up appearing in the upcoming Booster Gold show.
Blue Beetle is out NOW in Theaters!

Orange cat MC in the dust coated or well can I get head cannons for orange cat MC with a about DC instead of TSM
Dust adores her even more, genuinely amused by her actions. He was a little suspicious in the beginning, but quickly came to the conclusion that no, she's genuinely just like this. And he loves it, it's hilarious. The rest of her household feels the same, if just a bit more protective due to instinct saying she's too stupid to be able to protect herself.
The lodge is in the firm belief that it's just an act, one that Dust may be having her put on or encouraging. Nothing is changing their mind, even if a few have little doubts. Mutt finds it kind of hilarious, though. Does occasionally like to egg her on when she lived at the lodge, just to see what happens.
The non-lodge skeletons are quickly endeared by her. Lilac and Charmed like to egg her on like Mutt, finding her very amusing and cute. G and the mob skeles just like to watch the unfolding event, and Aster decides keeping a travel sized first aid kit on hand might be a good idea.

Chris Evans returning to the MCU in AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY...
And KRAVEN THE HUNTER being the end of the "Sony Spider-Man Universe", their series of Spider-Man adjacent movies about the webhead's antagonists...
Well, that's certainly the end of an era. VENOM kicked off this uneven series of 2000s pseudo-edgy throwbacks back in 2018, a year that was excellent for almost every CBM/superhero movie on the block, from the three MCU entries that year (BLACK PANTHER, INFINITY WAR, ANT-MAN/WASP) to the animated films (INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE, the TEEN TITANS GO! movie, INCREDIBLES 2) to the other stuff (Fox's DEADPOOL 2).
The VENOM movies seemed to get by on the buddy movie pairing of Eddie Brock and the symbiote creature, but the same couldn't be said for hacked-to-death-in-post movies like MORBIUS, MADAME WEB, and now KRAVEN... Set to flatline on opening weekend, with abysmal reviews to boot, against a $110m+ production budget. Sony is now focused solely on the fourth MCU Spider-Man movie and BEYOND THE SPIDER-VERSE. (Yeah, I heard today that Miles G. Morales' voice actor Jharrel Jerome hadn't recorded his lines for BEYOND yet... It's a non-story to me. The movie is far from ready, let's put it aside for the time being.)
I feel like, in addition to the MCU starting to see some big money-losers (like THE MARVELS) and relative underperformers (ETERNALS, QUANTUMANIA), it's another brick pulled from the 2010s superhero movie Jenga tower. That whole Spider-Man Villains Without Spider-Man Universe seemed to be building towards nothing, and to me it always felt like a weird attempt at riding the MCU wave.
The whole appeal of the MCU, to me, was that it took characters' whole worlds and bridged them together. Whether it was the techy world of Tony Stark to the New York neighborhoods of Spider-Man to the cosmic high fantasy of Thor... You get the idea! Spider-Man's world and all the people/villains he knows, that's not a shared universe to me. They would, logically, share a universe w/ Tony Stark and his network, Thor and his network, etc. These movies were little more than just spin-offs of a Spider-Man film franchise that didn't exist. Were they in Tobey-Spidey's universe? Andrew-Spidey's? Some live-action Spidey we hadn't met yet? It was never really clear. And I guess it won't be, unless some internal plan leaks out now that this series is kaput.
So now that leaves, going forward... The MCU (which Tom Holland-Spidey is a part of, unless he got throttled into another universe after AVENGERS 5/6), the nascent DC Universe spearheaded by James Gunn and Peter Safran, the Matt Reeves Batman "Crime Saga" Whatever-Verse, the MUTANT MAYHEM TMNT universe, and the SPIDER-VERSE series.
I think if those Sony movies leaned harder on the 2000s weird-edgy-too cool angle, they could've really stood out from their contemporaries. Nostalgic for a time that included Ben Affleck DAREDEVIL and Halle Berry CATWOMAN for sure, but still would've been unique to the MCU, the DC movies, and everything else. Hell, MADAME WEB took place in 2003. Would've been perfect... But alas, they did not go this route.
The MCU bringing back Chris Evans has been painted as desperate, given the send-off Steve Rogers got in AVENGERS: ENDGAME. Now unless he's returning as another Johnny Storm variant and not the one that got horrifically nerfed in DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE, this... Uh... It shows how last-ditch a lot of this all seems to be. Bringing back Robert Downey Jr., now Chris Evans, teasing this massive crossover of several familiar characters, etc.... All because the plans with Kang really did not work out. This feels like Disney desperately trying to squeeze out one more hurrah from this flailing franchise, instead of going smarter, smaller, and focusing on the characters again. Like, why is the supposedly on-the-ground political thriller CAPTAIN AMERICA 4 going through yet *another* round of reshoots that have apparently ballooned its budget to $375m+??? What the heck is going on here?
It's kinda telling that little DOG MAN from DreamWorks, done on a presumably tiny budget, could probably be one of the more successful superhero movies of next year. How the Gunn-Safran SUPERMAN kick-off of the DC Universe movies (since it started recently w/ animated Max series CREATURE COMMANDOS) performs remains to be seen. I think animated comic book movies will weather this sea-change quite nicely, as MUTANT MAYHEM 2 and BEYOND THE SPIDER-VERSE should turn out good.
But it's amusing to me how two titans of 2010s comic book movie, the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the DC Universe, are the ones to keep an eye on like this... to see if they can crawl out of the early 2020s maelstrom that claimed the likes of BLACK ADAM, QUANTUMANIA, SHAZAM! FURY OF THE GODS, THE MARVELS, AQUAMAN AND THE LOST KINGDOM, MADAME WEB, and JOKER: FOLIE A DEUX... And keep going, maybe even adapt and change. DC - both Gunn's universe and the Reeves Bat-verse - looks kinda primed to do that, not sure about the MCU, though.

The Byronic Hero Bracket: Qualifying Round Batch G #12
Niko Bellic from Grand Theft Auto IV vs. Harley Quinn from DC Universe
Reasons under the cut (spoilers for both)
(All sources from TV Tropes)
Niko Bellic:
Grand Theft Auto IV: Niko Bellic, the Anti-Villain Protagonist; an intelligent, witty criminal mastermind who is involved with a life of crime because it's all he feels he's good at. He comes to Liberty City looking for a better life and to escape his past, which includes being chased by a Russian mobster who believes Niko owes him money. He's also looking for a man who got twelve of his childhood friends killed, hoping for revenge. Whether he remains this way depends on several situations in the game that force the player to choose between Niko's personal beliefs or money.
Harley Quinn:
Harley Quinn has gotten in on the action as she transitions from Perky Female Minion to a more complex anti-hero. She has a Dark and Troubled Past as the sidekick/girlfriend of the The Joker, becoming his accomplice in several of his crimes that took many innocent lives, finally ending their relationship when she realized what a monster he truly was (leaving her broken-hearted), and striking out on her own. Finding that she has a lot of learned behavior she has to un-learn but is determined to live out her life on her terms. While she wants to be a hero, she has a violent streak that causes her to dish out some Disproportionate Retribution to whatever unlucky jerk that crosses her path (lacking a no-kill rule to keep her in check), she carries out a torrid love affair with a known eco-terrorist, her grasp on reality is tenuous at best as she's prone to falling into a cartoonish Happy Place to cope with her mountains of trauma (where she becomes a serious danger to herself and those around), and very few established heroes are willing to take her seriously due to all the atrocities she was complicit in. Harley knows she's damaged goods and can never make up for what she's done, but she tries regardless because it's the only way she can live with herself.
