Inspirational Furniture Assembly Dialogue

On the 22nd, Polycakes (me and @polychromicron-persei-8) will throw a new fanfic grenade into the GOAD Smut War. Until then, we wanted to share some dialogue that inspired The Long Road to Meatballs (Rated Explicit, mind the tags).

Now, I know what you're thinking, and you're right: furniture assembly isn't typically something that inspires smut, but here we are, nonetheless.

While we ended up not using this bit of text, we thought it was funny enough to share.

Inspirational Dialogue:

Aziraphale stared at the instructions. “It says, ‘attach legs to top of bar—part C—aligning brackets. Use screw F to attach—'”

“Wait, what? Read that again.”

“Attach legs to top of bar—part C—aligning brackets—”

“Let me see that.”

“Crowley, I'm reading to you exactly what it says.”

“Just…give.”

Crowley snatched the assembly instructions from Aziraphale’s hand and stared at the paper.

“Attach legs to top part of bar—part C—aligning brackets.”

Crowley surveyed the array of bars, screws, nuts, and bolts scattered around the room. It looked like a construction site that had failed every safety inspection.

“Which is part C?” Crowley asked.

“I guess it's the one with brackets.”

“All of them have brackets!”

Aziraphale sighed. “I don't know what to tell you.”

Crowley looked at the instructions again.

“Attach legs to top part of bar—part C—”

“Trust me,” Aziraphale interjected. “Reading it again is not going to make it any easier.”

Taco Crimes

Donnie would absolutely blow a fuse if someone ruined their books with how sacred he was to that mint condition comic, and I’m sure Mikey thinks cooking is an art. Cross either of them and it’s hell to pay!

I read a lot of book series that had been handed down to me by my siblings, but you could really tell whose they were before based on their condition. One sibling left foodstains and dog ears, another left spine breaks and ripped paperbacks, and the final would threaten my life if I so much as dented a page. Such is life with shared things

I guess you could say those books were well loved, for better or for worse lol

if they had to be fed by someone they didn't like/their crush?

if their partner-to-be? enemy? pulls them into a secluded and shushes them? (their bodies pressing and all that!!)

when asked to choose between their family and their lover? (given the circumstances of ur story)

when kissed on their head by their enemy after a near death experience?

if they're dancing with a stranger, and the stranger says 'stop dancing, sweetheart and you'll hunted. do u wanna die?' ?

if they find out the food that served to them has glass dust on it? (who is it served by?)

when being pulled into a hug when they most need it by someone they least expect?

when they have to hold someone they loved at a gun point? why would it even occur?

when they have to choose between their own life and their lover's?

when they've to give up something (of great importance to the character) to save their lover?

How to avoid character inconsistency in your writing

Set your character boundaries:

What's the background?

What's your character's backstory?

What are their traits, and how do they portray them?

Know what keeps your characters motivated. (Are they reaching their goal?)

You can avoid quick shifting of scenes. Let your readers absorb the setting of the scene.

Ensure that their actions and decisions align with their development and growth.

Tip 1: Start your chapter with a scene or dialogue that comes back at the end, which helps maintain consistency.

Tip 2: Throughout the chapter avoid the fast pacing of the story, rather let the characters express themselves so that it's clear for the readers.

Consider how your characters react to situations that are hard to convey. (Do they feel nervous? Scared? Fearless?)

Dialogue writing is crucial in explaining your character's personality while writing a story.

This process requires lots of re-reading and writing, fixing character holes and rewriting character arcs.
