Before I start I would just like to remind yall that it takes a lot to make you cry if it's not cause you can't bite someone, so let's set up a lil scenario,

You were having a normal well normal for you day, vide checking people and all, when you came across a rather tall and large beast-man who, unbeknownst to you, had had a very long and agonizing day and was on the verge of snapping, if not having a full-on overblot. All you know was that he didn't pass the check and needed to face the punishment for being intimating. As you know, it didn't work out so well for you, The beast-man ripped you off his hand and held you by the collar of your uniform jacket, then started to yell threats in your face. Your eyes started tearing up as you tried your best to grab onto any part of him to bite and hopefully let you go. When your plan failed tears ran down your cheeks but the man's screaming only got louder. You managed to squirm and wiggle your way out of the jacket and ran to hide or find someone that could help, while the beast-man was hunting you down with the scent from your jacket.

Malleus Draconia

Malleus stood at the front of the school admiring the gargoyles for his club activity

usually he would pick you up from whatever you were doing so you could look at them together

but he saw you playing with Ortho when he went to pick you up, and he didn’t want to disturb you.

Before you could even get within 20 feet of the front of the school, he already had heard your sobbing and teleported right in front of you

you bumped into his legs and fell back, but Malleus quickly caught you and held you in his arms

not even questioning it you squeezed your arms around his neck and cried into his shoulder.

Malleus was already on alert and looking for the person responsible

that’s when he saw a rather aggressive beast-man student stomping towards him, holding your jacket and screaming in your direction

it only took mere moments for the beast-man to notice the taller Draconia dorm leader holding you so dearly, and take off running

not wanting it to see what would happen.

Malleus turned his attention back to you, making note to speak to the beast-man later on,

he shifted you in his arms so you would be more comfortable, he sat you on his forearm and placed his other arm around you with his hand cradling your head and hugged you close to him

he decided to continue his club activities with you in his arms.

You would occasionally move your face out of the crook of his neck to look at a gargoyle

then he would tell you all about the one you took notice of.

You two eventually made it to Ramshackle, where Grim was waiting impatiently

“Yuu! There you are! I’ve been worried- I mean… huh..?”

Before Grim could continue, Malleus shushed him, motioning that you were asleep

he placed you down in your bed and tucked you in

he then went to drag the armchair to sit at your bedside, and Grim hoped into bed next to you.

Malleus watched over the two of you till deep into the night when he finally felt it was safe enough.

The next day he brought you your uniform jacket when he came to bring you along for his club activity that day.

Lilia Vanrouge

You didn't even listen to him before you ran behind him and hugged your small arms around his lower torso and continued to cry,

"Oh~ my little bat... if your worried about that beast-man, 'there's no need, he won't bother you, dearie."

Lilia turned in your hold and put your jacket on your shoulders.

"There you are! Now, what do you say to coming over to visit Diasomnia? I'm sure the boys would love to see you!"

Once you gave a curt nod, he picked you up and brought you to Diasomnia.

You spent the rest of your afternoon playing with Malleus, taking naps with Silver, and chewing on Sebek's hand which he begrudgingly allowed you to do when Lilia told him to let you do it

when it was late, Lilia was happy to let you sleepover

but made sure to go and pick up Grim to sleepover as well.

He tucked you both in and hummed a soothing melody until the two of you were fast asleep.

"Goodnight little bat," Lilia kissed the top of your head

"and goodnight little cat, hehe..." he lightly patted Grim's head, and left you both to sleep peacefully.

Riddle Rosehearts

Riddle was making his way from a Dorm Leader meeting and to his next class when your smaller form knocked into him, arms wrapping around him, and twisting to hide on his other side.

He was about to scold you for running in the halls when he felt a growing wetness on his uniform and noticed your shaking

He was extremely confused and worried

Riddle tried to stand up and let you go but you had a strong grip on him, your small hands balled into fists around the back of his jacket

so instead he lifted you up a little bit and turned in the direction of the booming voice

Riddle also noted that the student had your jacket.

"May I ask what you need with Yuu?" Riddle had an idea of what might have happened, and if that fresh bite mark on the beast-man's hand was a clue, he was right-

"That little shit bit me! Hand them- OVER!'

the beast-man yelled through gritted teeth before stepping forward and attempting to snatch you from Riddle by the collar of your shirt.

Riddle was quick to shut that down, by grabbing his pen and collaring the student

the beast-man stepped back and paused in shock, Riddle took that opportunity to grab your jacket from him and pick you up to walk to his next class.

He made sure to keep you with him for the rest of the day, which was petty easy considering you were asleep for most of it,

only waking up when Trey brought you one of your favorite goodies.

He made sure that headmaster Crowley was informed of this as well.

Ah~, and Riddles going to need a good massage though, he carried you for most of the day even when Trey and some teachers ask if he wanted them to carry you so he could have a break, he's not used to carrying something for so long.

Cater Diamond

Cater was getting things set up in the music room for the music club

it usually would be him, Lilia, and Kalim all doing this together but they had to go to a house warden meeting, and Lilia had to fill in for Malleus as always.

He was in the middle of tuning his guitar when the jiggling of the door knob caught his attention

when you came through the door. Cater was a bit surprised

usually you didn't come to the music room unless he would bring you when Riddle or Trey was busy.

But what surprised him more was that you were crying and when you flew past him to hide behind the drum kit it worried it quite a bit

he was about to ask you what you were doing when he heard loud stomping coming from hall

then a rather large and angry looking beast-man busted through the door.

"Where are they?!"

"You know who I'm talking about, that brat that bit me!"

Cater inwardly sighed, he knew sooner or later you would piss someone off enough to want to get back at you like this

"Sorry, haven't seen them today." Cater shrugged, turning his attention back to the instrument in his hands.

The beast-man was about to protest, but Cater strummed the guitar, interrupting him

after a few more interruptions, the beast-man huffed and stormed back out of the club room

once Cater was sure whoever you pissed off was far enough away, he turned to the drum kit

"Its ok to come out now kiddo, he's gone."

He waited for a minute but you never came out of your little hiding place

Cater sighed and lightly shook his head with a small smile

he stood up with his guitar and walked behind the drum kit to sit next to you,

you had your knees to chest and was playing with the bow around your wrist

After that Cater took you back to Heartslabyul and treated you to some of his favorite spicy snacks, then when it was bedtime he told Ace and Deuce to walk you back to Ramshackle

he also told them about what had happened.

Deuce gave you your jacket the next day he got detention getting it back but he thinks it was worth it.

Ruggie Bucchi

Ruggie was doing Leona's laundry, hanging up his clothes on the line outside of the dorm building

and just as he was grabbing a clip, he caught the sound of his name, or rather a shortened version of it, causing his ears to twitch

he turned towards the direction his name came from, and saw your small silhouette running towards him

as you got closer he could also hear your chocked sobbing of his name

"Ru-g! *hic* Rug- Ruggie-" Your yelling was cut off by another sob

Before he could fully register what was happening and react, you had already rushed to him and started hugging his legs tightly.

Ruggie did his best to console you through your sobs, he tried to pick you up but your grip on his legs was far too strong

yeah he rly could just rip you off but you were crying so he had to be gentle, also your a kid so.

he settled for rubbing your back and offering to make you some food.

Soon after your sobs had finally started to slow, Ruggie heard yelling and cursing coming from the direction of the portal mirror, the same one you came from

it was a common occurrence in the Savanaclaw dorm so he paid no mind to it

not even when you also heard to and started to cry again, he just continued to console you

you let go of his pants and ran into the clean laundry basket behind him and hid

he didn't rly think much of it, just thought that the shouting from a random student had startled you

he continued to do the laundry for a moment before the culprit of all the yelling ran up to him.

"Where the hell is that brat Ruggie?!"

"I don't know what your talkn' about"

"Don't play dumb, hyena! That little shit that's always hanging 'round you bit me!-"

Ruggie was quick to shut his classmate up with his unique magic and make him walk a good distance away

once he deemed it alright, he quickly finished up the laundry and took you,

still in the clean laundry basket, and finished up his chores.

He found you fast asleep under the clean clothes as he was putting them away

and decided to let you sleep and carried you around in the basket while he made some lunch for the two of you when you wake up.

Floyd Leech

My mans just thought you were scared of Jade again.

He was just walking around when he saw your little form ran passed him

and he could hear the very obvious crying.

Floyd easily picked you up and was unsurprisingly met with you kicking, thrashing, screaming, and crying even more

he held you in front of him so you could easily see his signature toothy grin, and you surprisingly calmed down

but still crying, and now grabbing at his hands that were around your torso.

Floyd obliged and readjusted so that you were sitting on his forearm and facing him

he also gave you his free hand for you to play with it, to which you started to nibble said hand.

This wasn't an uncommon thing, whenever you started crying cause of Jade, Floyd would let you play with and nibble on his hand, which always seemed to calm you down.

He knew it would probably take a little while for you to calm all the way down, so he decided to continue walking around, doing whatever the fuck he does.

Like he thought, your calming down took several minutes, and everything seemed fine for a minute or two until you looked over his shoulder and started shaking again and hugged his arm closer to you

Floyd turned around expecting to see his brother

except he was met with a very angry beast-man speed walking towards the both of you yelling something about "finally finding you freak"

he doesn't know, he didn't care to pay attention.

The beast-man, without fully registering who was holding you, tried to make a grab for you

only to be kicked away by Floyd and knocked on his ass

the beast-man didn't move, far too scared of the tall eel's next move.

It took him a second, but Floyd was able to connect the dots,

the expression on his face was... less expressive than usual, he looked completely serious

but that quickly changed when he looked back at you,

"Hey lil fry! why don't you go find Jade and Azul, pretty sure they're at the lounge!"

Floyd set you down but gave you his jacket before you ran to the lounge, but made sure to grab his magic pen out of the pocket.

When you got to the lounge you were still shaking and refused to answer any questions Jade or Azul asked you.

When Floyd came back he seemed to have some red stuff on his shirt and face, he also held your jacket in his hand.

You stayed at the lounge for the rest of the day just hanging out and helping around, and Floyd carried you back to Ramshackle when you fell asleep in one of the booths.

⁀➷ Floyd Leech — very excited from the idea of having a mini Floyd running around the house, a pocket-sized partner in crime, but to expect he would be an exceptional partner is, unfortunately, wrong. Floyd is very complex and his emotions are hard to keep controlled, and now that you are pregnant, he becomes somewhat more intense because of your own hormones and the anxiety of parenthood gripping on his neck. He does tries his best to get his moods in check, though - he doesn't want you to be stressing over him, knowing how dangerous it could be, so whenever he feels like his mood is about to change drastically, he walks away to take a breath. Things can turn into quite a ruckus if you end up experiencing those annoying changes at the same time though, as Floyd struggles to understand why you're snapping at him all of a sudden when he was just asking you something. Jade helps him understand that you're extremely hormonal and how it affects your humor and helps you keep his brother's own on check.

He's a lot more possessive and protective of you now, if not clingier. Floyd will be wrapping his arms around your figure any chance he gets, and when in public he'll always be intertwining your fingers together or holding you by the waist, getting annoyed every time someone comes asking to touch your bump - "I'm the only one who should be allowed to touch my Shrimpy's belly! Strangers have no bussiness being so close to you." Going to the doctor is always amusing because that's the moment Floyd looks the most concentrated than you can ever remember. Human pregnancy is something so new and weird for him, he's totally enthralled; what do you mean you don't lay eggs? Oh, you're just like a whale! How fun! Though he is entertained from all the information he's learning, Floyd is lowkey terrified of the birthing process (he's flabbergasted to know human babies can come out the size of a small watermelon), but he does his best to calm you down, and if you'd prefer to get a c-section, then he'll totally support you! During the preparations for the baby's room, Floyd will prefer to decorate it with ocean-themed stuff, having a blast with the assorted toys you two have bought and you're worried he might be more excited with them than your child. You know that one meme of the dad stealing the kid's tricycle? Yeah, that's him.

The delivering day comes, and Floyd is a whirlwind. He's more scared than you and it shows, no more jokes or smart remarks to try and hide his desperation, only panic, and you need to calm him down, even though he's not the one dealing with hellish contractions. Also, for the love of all Sevens, do not allow him to drive. Once you two get in the hospital, Floyd makes use of scary eel privilege to swiftly arrange a delivery room for you and suddenly almost all the nurse staff is mobilized to take care of you. Floyd can't bear the idea of leaving you alone not for even a minute, so despite the recommendations, he'll sit through hours by your side even if he's tense and stiff, holding your hand tightly. Bless the nurses who'll be helping you, because they'll have to deal with Floyd going through all the emotions known to man. Don't worry though, once he knows his shrimpy and little fry are safe and healthy, he'll turn back to the usual easy-going happy Floyd.

⁀➷ Jade Leech — Jade is surprised to receive the news. Similar to Azul, he does have a bit of knowledge about human's particularities and biology, but he wasn't expecting for you two to be compatible, especially since he's a much more 'feral' kind of merman. Nonetheless, he's happy with the prospect of growing a loving family with you... though by the progression of months, he grows the most worried. He's relieved to see the way you glow, how you seem healthy, but intrusive thoughts sometimes creep on the back of his mind. What if something happens? What if your body rejects the child because of his eel-merman genes? What if— but then you come to him squealing about how you felt the baby's first kick, and suddenly he's relaxing, his heart washed from any lingering fears. He pulls you closer and lays his head on your bump, humming quietly as he feels the baby slowly settling down.

Jade does his own research just to be sure he's doing everything right and what to expect from the significant changes you two are inevitably experiencing, insisting on working out a routine of exams and appointments, always so attentive to every little detail and medical advice. The bad thing is, he strictly follows them, which means you won't be able to snatch something unhealthy for all of your pregnancy; even if you're trying to tiptoe your way to the fridge, Jade somehow knows, he's right there to remind you about 'doctor's orders'. He's got the best of intentions, though he may look too strict. But don't fret! As soon as mama Leech gets word about your pregnancy she's coming to help! Jade actually listens to her tips, recognizing her very valuable experience on the matter and trusting mama knows best. At least you get to eat some cheat food here and there - Jade's shocked and extremely entertained to be taught that humans believe that a baby could be born looking like a certain kind of food if the mother doesn't eat whatever she's craving, and so he indulges you into whatever you ask him to cook. Similar to Floyd, Jade grows more possessive of you, especially when out in public. He dislikes the attention your bump attracts, cautious of ill-intentioned people, so when your belly has grown to it's full glory, Jade gives curious passerbys a piercing cold look while you're not aware, and then carries on to grocery shopping, whispering sweet praises to your ear like the entire mall isn't turning heels as fast as possible the moment they land their eyes on you both.

When the baby's due date comes, Jade is the ever collected and relying gentleman you need. Since he's such a good observer and has kept track of every little thing during your pregnancy - mood swings, body changes, smell and heat - he already has a suspicion you're about to go into labour, so he has prepared everything you might need even before you can shout about your water breaking. It's so endearing how he already looks like a dad - diligently guiding you through the hospital halls, big maternity bags hanging on his shoulders as he coos quietly about how everything is going to be ok, how you're going to be a great parent and how much he loves you. If you ask him to stay with you on the delivery room, he'll gladly let you squeeze his hand into oblivion and look unaffected, watching as you work for hours on end with a ressuring smile and the most sincere devotion on his eyes, totally enthralled by your resilience.

Since dragon eggs need magic to hatch, Malleus is glad to help his child grow, so he pours as much magic as he can into it. He and his beloved had a wonderful and beautiful child... only they were magicless. The magic Malleus poured into the egg had backfired on the young fae entirely. Instead of helping them grow, it had made them sick. Malleus and Yuu couldn't hide the magicless fae from the council forever, they had found out and the parents were forced to hide the child.

Maleanora, named after Malleus' mother but Yuu added the "a" at the end of her name, was put under Lilia's protection as the older fae had finally settled down somewhere for his retirement. Lilia wasn't expecting to raise another kid, but she was his grandchild and the nocturne fae would do anything for her. Meleanora was constantly sick, always in need of some medication as she basically struggled to even stay alive.

She longed to join her parents in Briar Valley, but Yuu and Malleus had explained to her that going back to the castle would spell her death. So, she remained with her grandpa, staring out at the woods around her as she waited for her two older brothers to join her.

Although, Leona never wanted kids, when Yuu had told him that they were pregnant, he faintly thought he would be given a chance to show their child the love he never had. Their child, Shabaha, was born magicless... Her fur was gray, not the beautiful brown of Leona's, and her "mane" was equally gray. While the council had seen Shabaha's birth has a bad omen, she was raised with as much love Yuu and Leona could give her.

She was more fragile than the other beastmen her age, meaning she couldn't play with Kamali and Kimi (Cheka's kids) for long. Her hearing wasn't as good either, having to have her name said several times before she answered. Her nose couldn't pick up on scents like her father's. She was frequently sent away whenever the council visited the castle to her Uncle Ruggie's. She never knew what went on the room, but she could tell it was never good.

For now, she spends her limited youth with her family.

The moment Azul and Yuu's son was born, they both knew something was wrong. Cobalt couldn't transform and any manner of a potion, breathing or transforming, always hurt his body. Without the ability to transform like his father, they were forced to live on land. Cobalt would never be able to see the beautiful and dangerous world his father was from.

He couldn't handle the winter months like his father could, lacking the cold resistance that came from the Coral Sea. He was a terrible swimmer as well, being unable to even float on the water. Cobalt got migraines frequently and at points, it made it impossible to even leave the house on some days.

Azul and Yuu worry for his health as it starts its slow decline.

Jade figured something was off before Yuu did. Yule had breathing problems and she couldn't transform like her father. She slept often as simple tasks wore her out. Yule lacked the sharp teeth Jade had and his sharp eyesight. They also lived on land, but close to the ocean.

Yule could swim, but not for very long, and often than not had to be ferried on her father's back. Yule wasn't as cold resistance as Jade, the cold air and weather frequently took what limited amount of breath she had away. During those same winter months, Yule slept more and longer.

Jade and Yuu knew Yule wouldn't live long.

Floyd and Yuu didn't know something was wrong with Jasper, until later on in the child's life. Jasper was blind, and while that would be fine (eels have limited eyesight but could still navigate while blind), he couldn't transform. Floyd couldn't teach him how to use echolocation. The transformation and breathing potions never worked on Jasper, causing the family to be locked to land. Jasper didn't have the sharp teeth gifted to the Leech family and had a very hard time speaking.

Jasper hated the water, there was no way to tell where he was in the ocean, even if he clung onto Floyd. He hated the cold as well and sits in front of the fireplace as he plays with his toys with a blanket around his shoulders. Sadly, during the winter, Jasper has a hard time eating...

Floyd's been surrounded by death his whole life and he can tell when someone's nearing it.

Kalim is gonna ride the magic carpet so fast and drag Jamil with him his hair is gonna get taken out of it's ponytail by force. They picked you up quickly before taking you back to Scarabia and having you lay down while they treat you like you just got a fever. Well you did eventually get one but they still stayed in the same room as you and eventually moved you to Kalims room to sleep in there while Jamil monitored you and Kalim got you some blankets because you kept on saying you were cold. (Your fever got worse but Jamil was able to save the day)

Pomefiore:

Vil is gagging by how awful you look and how unkept you look with how your hair is knotted and how your skin looked like it would start falling off by how dry it was. He wasn't even going to correct the way you spoke before he had Rook quickly take you to Pomefiore and had you sleep in your old room while Epel grabbed a bunch of skincare stuff and hair care because it needs to be saved. Rook is monitoring you and making sure that you sleep well before Vil puts a bunch of random stuff on your skin and in your hair. Epel is helping as well by feeding you a type of apple juice to replenish you because you looked dehydrated as fuck.

Idia ofc didn't know until Ortho went over and saw you sleeping on the floor like it was a water bed. Malleus happen to have seen you laying down on the floor and brought you over to Diasomnia where you sleep on a bunch of Silvers pillows in Malleus' room where he had Lilia watch over you until you woke up while Sebek and Silver went to prepare your room for you. Once you woke up you were met with a bowl of some goo goo that Lilia claimed to be soup. (It was hot as shit and the bowl was this close to breaking if it was any hotter.) You refused to eat it so Malleus made you some tea and Sebek made a bath for you because you were cold with your fucking sandals exposing your feet and making you this close to getting sick. (If you get sick he will blame it on if your didn't wear shoes, your feet were not covered, your hair was wet, or the fan in your room blasting on the highest level.) Silver went to go sleep next to you in your room so that he can check up on you and make sure that you're alright.

“From today on (Y/n), you’ll be hanging out with the Leech family so please…be on your best behavior.” 

Your father was always a little timid. Always speaking with a little quake in his voice. His eyes were always wide darting around. His softer hands like to shake as well. Always wavering even when he held you tight. 

Your father is timid. which is why he warns you when he leaves you with the Leech family. Babysitters always make him nervous. It must be because there are two this time—two babysitters with lopsided haircuts and smiles filled with sharp daggers for teeth. 

“Hello little (Y/n), we’ll be sure to take good care of you.”

“Oi (Y/n), you a swimmer?”

The twins were nice…for teenagers. Other teenagers you knew would sooner shove your head underwater than help you tread it. Other teenagers also didn’t jump at the chance to fight people but that was other teenagers. Not the Leech twins. 

“(Y/n), I told you not to look at Floyd when he’s doing that.”

“But that guy is still holding onto our ice cream.”

“We’ll have some at home. Don’t point at him it’s rude.”

Jade is the twin with his bang on the left side of his face. He’s proper and polite, always doing his best to keep you on schedule. Helping you with your homework when he notices you’re struggling or reading to you when it's time to sleep. 

“Let me blow your nose.”

“Mmm okay.” 

“Good job. Are you ready to go over the edible mushrooms again?”

“Mm okay.”

Floyd is the twin with a yellow left eye and a pitchy voice. He’s loud and silly, always doing fun things that make the day exciting like running in the halls of the manor or playing tickle-monsters when you’ve been working too long.

“I just have to finish these sheets and then I can play!”

“Boooriing!  Let’s just play now!”

“B-but Jade said–”

“Jade can make you catch up later! Let’s get our water guns!”

“Yay!”

They were always so much fun to be around, even work wasn’t so bad with them around. They made a place for you in their giant home. Giving you a room as big as your living room back home, which you slowly filled with the larger souvenirs from your days together.

Speaking of home, it was becoming harder to recall. Trying to remember when you thought of your home if the bathroom was to the left of your room or your father’s. It was an odd feeling that sat at the back of your mind when you looked at the glow-in-the-dark ceiling art. Consciousness fading in and out it didn’t stop your brain from planting the seed of curiosity.

“Why…am I at their house so much?”

Usually, the answer would have been simple. Your father worked late so you had babysitters. But you didn’t go to their house usually. They also didn’t feed or play with you as long as they did but that was beside the point. 

“(Y/n), you’re playing with your food.”

“Oh sorry Missus Leech.”

You made quick work of the beans on your plate, enthusiastically scarfing down what you could. It didn’t feel right to disappoint Missus Leech, while she never once yelled; there was just this feeling about her. One that called for respect. 

“Take your time, (Y/n). I was only worried you’d drift off to sea.”

Looking up at her, tilted your head in confusion.

She let out a giggle. The adult kind that made you feel embarrassed. Looking at Jade, he had an amused smile too, “She means your mind, (Y/n).”

“Oh, I guess a little.”

“What’ya thinkin’ about elver?”

Floyd spoke between bites of food, reminding you to do the same. 

“I just think I miss my home a little bit.”

Taking another hefty bite you missed the disdain on someone’s face. A purposeful cough brought your attention up to the patriarch at the head of the table.

“How are those new shoes we bought together?”

Lighting up at the memory of your new shoes, you barely finished chewing. 

“So cool! Everyone at school thought they were nice too! And I got so many compliments.”

The older man laughed, nodding his head. “Good. Good. Maybe we should go shopping again soon.”

“Okay!”

Dinner went on like usual with dessert ending your time at the dinner table. Letting Jade and Floyd lead you to your bathroom to begin your nightly routine. You fought off the urge to yawn while Jade helped you brush your teeth, failing when he told you to spit. 

“It’s always nice when Mama and Papa come back from trips.” 

Floyd spoke with his back lying on the giant bed, filled with stuffed animals and pillows. He was tossing your clowned fish stuffy in the air catching it with ease. 

Jade still smiling continued buttoning up your pajamas, “Yes, it seems like the trip went well.” 

He looked at you, reminding you to follow him to your bed. “What about you (Y/n)? Did you miss them?”

Your eyelids were feeling heavy. You rubbed them to try to wipe the feeling away.

“Uh yeah.”

Helping Jade shuffle your stuffies around to make a place for you a knock at the door was heard. Floyd must have opened it because by the time you turned Missus Leech was there.

“Mama!” 

Rubbing at Floyd’s head she waved to you and Jade.

“Hi there! I was wondering if I could join you for bedtime?”

You couldn’t tell if The question was for you but if it was Jade answered anyway.

“Of course, Mother. We were just about to read their bedtime story.”

Tucked in next to Missus Leech you let yourself lean against her as she flipped through the pages of the book. Letting her words soothe your mind with the familiar words. Jade and Floyd were close by too making you comfy enough to go to sleep.

When the story was done, everyone gave you goodnight kisses before heading for the door. With the last of your energy, you remembered something important.

“Floyd, are you picking me up tomorrow or Daddy?”

The teenager was squeezing the fleshy cylinder shape with an intensity strong enough to bend metal. The crunching and squelching of a man’s neck barely brought comfort to Jade as he continued to squeeze his hands.

“There there Jade, these things take time. It was optimistic that they’d forget by now.”

Unfortunately, the words of his father didn’t calm him down. He headed over to his next target, this time allowing them to throw a punch. Dodging the punch he cradled their hand, maneuvering his arm around until it snapped in the opposite direction. The screaming that followed would have curdled blood for most but it was a lesser result to Jade. Who ended it quickly with a firm kick sent backward and into the skull. The crunch that followed and the abrupt cut to the scream allowed the Leech twin to breathe. 

“I knew they wouldn’t forget. Despite all the work we’ve done. But they still expect him to come.”

His father stepped forward, avoiding the bodies to place a comforting hand on Jade’s shoulder.

“Perhaps he still does…to them.”

Jade’s eyes widened, the implication bringing a stark realization. He turned to his father, his yellow gaze answering the unspoken question. 

To think that with all the work he was saddled with, the sniper still hadn’t abandoned his child. The likelihood was slim but possible. There were quite a few blind spots when it came to the school. Jade had previously ignored them because of the promised security of their contract with the one who wanted him dead. But it seems that wasn’t all they needed to worry about.

“Do you think he plans to take them again?”

“I’d hope not,” entering the warehouse was Fiona Leech having traded out her evening dress for a jumpsuit and shoving a receiver of a baby monitor in her pocket, “our little elver is just about to be settled. It’d be cruel to try moving them again..”

“I don’t think he cares at this point,” Jasper Leech suggested. Pulling out a revolver, he casually aimed and shot the two people tied in the back of the warehouse. He continued, “I hear he’s been getting sloppy with the jobs that one has so graciously allowed him to fix.” 

Jade balanced himself wiping his shoe clean with a rag, chiming in himself. 

“Now he’s trying to go back on his word. Absolute scum.”

“I’d hate for us to pull them out of school, more change is not what that kid needs.”

“I wouldn’t mind limiting my club activities to partake in homeschooling.”

His mother held his face patting his head fondly as she cooed,” You’re a good boy Jade but you have your new job and all those plans I wouldn’t want you to give that up.”

Jasper sighed, scratching the well-groomed stache on his face. “Guess that means we’re ending our contracts early.”

“Seems so…..Now Jade go on get to bed you have school in the morning.”

“Yes, Mama.”

The shade was nice on sunny days. The coolness that came with the blackened space near the fence was like heaven. The spot was farther away from the plastic playground and the other children running all throughout. Minutes ago, you were just like them running wildly at a more loose game of sharks and minnows. 

Past the wood-chipped ground was the back of the school building where the teachers were chatting. Disappearing between the rectangular windows, their attention was on something inside. Distracted enough not to scold you for stepping away from the others. The triumph of your expert timing was the true prize. Relishing in the leaves of the trapezoid-shaped bushes pushing through the fence. Crunchy, tickling, and overgrown the feeling against your back was a minor trait of this sacred place. 

There was also the oddly pressing poke of something warm coming through the hole of the fences. Turning to confirm your suspicions, you smiled.

“Hi, Papa.”

“Hello, my Starlight!”

Turning around to mirror his position you laid on your tummy to look him in the eye. His tactical glasses were off and his hair had changed. His longer hair was gone, traded out for a faded cut. Different but still your father. You let his larger gruffer fingers hold your own through the fence, his hands for once not shaking. 

“Can I tell you all about my adventures?”

“Of course.”

He let you rant, smiling and nodding all along to all your different adventures. You even took off your shoes and showed him the flickering lights in its soles. He waited until you were out of breath before asking the question again.

“Would you like to come with Papa, this time?”

You hesitated kicking your feet against the wooden chips of the playground. 

“Are we going back to our home?”

“...No.”

Tilting your head,” Then are we going to the Jade and Floyd’s?”

The names made him shudder as he hurriedly shook his head. 

“W-we’re going someplace new….”

“Where are we going?”

He rubbed at his eyebrows. He was getting annoyed. But you knew you had to ask otherwise you’d be brought somewhere you hated. Like that one time.

“(Y/n) you’re curiosity is great but—”

“Does where we’re going have a bed? Does it have a kitchen? Are we going to be only eating the gas place’s sandwiches?”

He scrunched his hands into his hair, grasping for his non-existent flowing hair. His lips were quivering and his eyes were watering. It made you nervous, sitting up from your tummy and on your knees. You sent a look over your shoulder at the window–the teachers were still occupied. Looking down at your father, you silently sighed as you got into character.

“Hirano wherever you're taking that little Starlight, it better be the best place for a kid. Those Leech’s are makin’ sure they're on time at school, they're well-fed, and I haven’t gotten a call from protective services for a good while.”

“I know! I know Mama but they won’t let me leave. I screwed up! I screwed up really bad! If I don’t do another job for that guy, he’s going to have my head! B-but I want to go back to normal! I want to spend my days helping (Y/n) with homework and coming home and watching those silly cartoons with my Starlight–”

Your heart was aching and your eyes were getting watery. You waved a hand at your eyes and cleared your throat sticking your hand through the hole to hold his. 

“Y-you’ve got to get your ducks in order before you take your Starlight back–”

“But Mom!”

“Don’t but me…Starlight is safe. You’ve got to make sure you are too before you take them back.”

“But the debt I owe…it’s so big and their patience is thin. I don’t know if I’ll be able to come back….”

Taking a deep breath, you went back to your original position on your tummy. 

“Papa, I’m always going to be here. Safe and waiting for you. So you can go on your work trip I don’t mind.”

He smiled at that reaching through the gate to affectionately bop you on your nose. 

“That’s right…I’m just on a work trip. I’ll be back before you even notice. I’m gone!”

He began to scooch away but you stopped him calling for him to come back to the fence. You kissed his forehead and he kissed yours.

“I’ll….see you when you got back Papa….”

“Yup! You know it! If you need anything just ask your grandma, okay?”

“...Okay…”

Like that, he disappeared. 

You were left to stare at the disfigured leaves and dying branches. Burning the memory of his face into your mind.

“(Y/n)! Your brother’s here to pick you up.”

It took you a minute before you stood up again. Frantically wiping at the water streaming from your eyes, you waited until your throat was no longer croaky to finally respond.

“Coming!”

It was all a blur, saying goodbye to your friends and packing your backpack. The memories of the sweet older lady you used to spend so much time with. She taught you how to help your father, explaining the work he was in. It made your head hurt. Thinking about it now, you can say that’s why you stay at the Leech’s house so much.

“Ready to go little elver?”

“Yeah,” you stuck your hands up while he brought you up higher supporting you with his arms. You didn’t want to but you let your gaze fall on the disfigured spot in the bushes behind the playground fence. 

Floyd glared at the spot.

“What’s over there, (Y/n)?”

Visualizing him one last time. You’re glad you could say goodbye. Curling your head into his uniform’s collar, you blinked your extra tears away. 

“Nothing anymore…let’s go home, please.”

You missed the smile on Floyd’s face, laughing to himself as he made his way to the family car. 

“As always, little elvie!”
