I need to stop trying to talk to people on tumblr. What I think is friendly and helpful does not seem to be perceived as friendly or helpful. What I think my words mean and what other people think those same words mean does not align. Yes, I'm aware this means there is a high probability that I have undiagnosed autism. This is extremely common in those assigned female at birth, who do not present symptoms of many things the same as those assigned male at birth, autism and ADHD included, and frequently go most or all of their lives without understanding why things that seem easy for others are so damn difficult for them, much less get an actual diagnosis. The fact that the people I get along with most easily have already been diagnosed with it probably should have been my first clue.
I know it's not an excuse, I know it's a reason I need to try harder. But I don't feel social media is an appropriate place for me to do that.
This isn't a vent, I am not blaming anyone else, and I'm not making this post as a means of seeking sympathy or encouragement. It's just an explanation for the following change I have decided to make:
From here forward I am going to limit this blog to posting pretty pictures and reblogging other pretty pictures. This has a much higher track record of sharing enjoyment and uplifting spirits, which is all I actually want to do.
Please don't yell at me if I've socially mistepped by making this post or if you're upset by my phrasing of anything. I am already exhausted, and I've tried my best. Just block me and let it go. Or just don't worry about it since I won't be talking on this blog anymore anyway. You'd be beating a dead horse.
I can still be reached via Discord for those who still wish to take the risk of interacting with me despite all of the above.
My sincere apologies to anyone I have upset in the past by seeming condescending when trying to convey information that I mistakenly thought would be helpful. I promise I won't do it again.

Am I the only one that feels like NTs HATE saying 'I don't know.'
You will not believe the amount of times I'll ask a basic objective question about a situation and they'll give me an answer, only for later the answer to be completely wrong. And then when I ask them why they would give me wrong information - they say 'I just guessed.'
I didn't ask you for your guess. I asked for the information. If you didn't have the information don't just GUESS. Say 'I don't know.'
I feel like NT don't realize that WRONG information is worse than no information.
If I want to know when an event will end and you say '5pm' - I'm going to be mentally prepared for 5pm. And if it DOESN'T end then, not only will I be out of energy, but I'll be irritated and confused because I'm in an unfamiliar situation with NO INFORMATION
Had you just told me 'I don't know what time it ends' instead of GUESSING 5, then I would've prepared for the worse. But now I have to literally rearrange everything in my head and talk myself down from meltdown cause I was given inaccurate information and also I thought I was going home.
But they act instead like saying I don't know is a moral failure.
My father used to yell at me all the time to not say 'I don't know.'
He'd always demand I figure it out and come up with SOMETHING no matter how uninformed or vague and that's how you have NTs walking around feeling like it's a crime to admit they simply don't know something
and instead they'll just shamble something together and hope that's good enough regardless of whether in the information is actually helpful or correct.
IT'S SO ANNOYING. JUST SAY YOU DON'T KNOW.
Stop guessing and giving me WRONG information because it only makes the situation worse and more confusing. Say you don't KNOW. It's FINE.
#ro rants#neurotypicals communicate clearly challenge#today on: actually NT are the ones with empty and illogical communication patterns#I refuse to believe I'M the disordered one when they're the ones acting on no logic whatsoever#stop trying to protect your ego and just Be Normal and tell me what I need to know#'Autistics are bad at communication cause they're too blunt and rude-'#or maybe.. you just have no idea how to speak clearly#neurodivergent#actually autistic#autism#audhd#neurodivergency#neurodiversity#actually audhd#actually autism#actually adhd#autistic

Suddenly terribly consumed by the need to see POC versions of some of the other TMBS characters. Particularly a Black Mr. Benedict. I think a Black Mr. Benedict would be a beautiful thing.
#it's about how the books do such a lovely job capturing neurodiversity#and the way society can estrange you for being 'other'#and the way that definitely includes being POC#it's about Mr. Benedict offering community and safety and family for kids who were like him#too clever#too different#too alone#and I really like the idea of a Black man who has maybe been impacted by an unjust system in these ways and maybe others#making his own vibrant community where people feel loved and accepted#for exactly who they are#where they can 'fit' in a way that can be stupidly hard to do in a dominantly white society#or a neurotypical society#doubly so if you're neurodivergent and POC in that intersectional way that existing in the world we live in can make that extra challenging#also I just feel like we need more black characters who are older and clever and compassionate and lovely#the world deserves that#people deserve to see that in themselves#and drawing a Black Mr. Benedict isn't the same as creating those characters#but oooh I would love to see it#adding this to my 'things to draw once I know how to draw' list for sure for sure#tmbs#the mysterious benedict society

what’s dysgeographica?
dysgeographica, also known as developmental topographical disorientation, is a form of neurodivergence in which a person has difficulty creating mental maps, orienting themselves or a location in space, and navigating from place to place.
some common symptoms of dysgeographica include:
getting lost easily, even in one's own neighborhood or other extremely familiar locations
difficulty memorizing even simple or frequently traveled routes
no internal compass (i.e. no sense of which way one is facing or if one has been turned around)
no sense of where familiar locations are in relation to each other
difficulty making a mental map of a building or area's layout
uncertainty about which direction a location is in, even if one knows how to get there
complete reliance on GPS navigation while traveling
rigidly following one familiar route to get somewhere, even if a better route may be available
anxiety around driving a car due to lack of confidence in one's ability to navigate as the driver
is dysgeographica just a poor sense of direction?
while many people struggle to read maps or navigate unfamiliar places, being dysgeographic means struggling with very familiar locations as well as unfamiliar ones, potentially getting lost in one's own neighborhood or workplace.
additionally, while someone who just has a poor sense of direction will generally still be able to move through the world and perform daily life activities with little to no added difficulty or distress, dysgeographic people will often find that their difficulty navigating makes day-to-day functioning more difficult (e.g. being late to work regularly due to getting lost, not being able to drive a car or travel alone).
is dysgeographica part of adhd/autism/etc?
it is possible to have dysgeographica with comorbid autism, adhd, dyslexia, dyscalculia, dyspraxia, etc. it's also possible to experience dysgeographic symptoms as secondary to one of those (e.g. having trouble navigating due to adhd inattention).
that being said, dysgeographica is not inherently connected to any other form of neurodivergence, and can be the only neurodivergence someone has. you don't need to be diagnosed with anything else to have dysgeographica.
is dysgeographica a disability?
yes, dysgeographica is a neurodevelopmental disability.
it is not, however, recognized as such by the DSM or ICD, despite research showing evidence of its existence and the impact it can have on people's lives. that doesn’t mean it’s not a real disability — what it does mean is that it can be very difficult (if not impossible) to get accommodations.
while dysgeographica would most likely not be categorized as a specific learning disability, it does have some overlap with dyscalculia and dyslexia, and can be considered a “cousin” of the specific learning disabilities much in the same way as dyspraxia.

World Autism Awareness Day: Understanding, Acceptance, and Inclusion
World Autism Awareness Day (WAAD) is observed annually on April 2nd, serving as a global effort to increase awareness, foster understanding, and promote the inclusion of individuals on the autism spectrum. This blog is the first im hearing of this. Do you know anything about telling the difference between this and aphantasia?
basically, aphantasia is about not being able to visualize while dysgeographica is about not being able to navigate. those two things can overlap — namely, an aphantasic person and a dysgeographic person might share the inability to visualize mental maps. but that’s just the middle of the venn diagram.
so an aphantasic person won’t only be unable to visualize mental maps, they’ll be unable to visualize anything at all, while a dysgeographic person could have an incredibly vivid visual imagination when it comes to everything else. and a dysgeographic person will likely struggle with aspects of navigation other than mental maps, while an aphantasic person could be able to navigate just fine without actually seeing the mental map in their head.
obviously, these are generalizations, but it should give you an idea of the differences between the two.
i also wouldn’t be surprised if dysgeographica is related to aphantasia, though, given the overlap between the two. i know there’s evidence of a connection between dysgeographica and prosopagnosia for a similar reason — they both affect a person’s ability to create visual representations in their head, whether it be places or faces — so i can see aphantasia also being related in that way.
generally speaking, though, if you’re trying to identify which one you’re experiencing, i think the two basic questions to ask are “do you have trouble with visualization when it comes to things other than maps/places?” and “do you struggle with aspects of navigation other than seeing the maps/places in your head?”
i hope that helps!

no one:
me: google search can i be autistic if i'm good at customer service
#personal#neurodiversity#like. i think i'm probably better at customer service than i was at my office job#because i felt more pressure to appear as well-adjusted and responsible and like. proper or something#whereas with customer service i only really care about offering a pleasant experience and helping if people are having a hard time w stuff#and i'm like. sure there's rude people occasionally but i've been masking my whole life and i Care so i'll deal#my personal challenge is making a rude/unhappy customer leave in a better mood#i am still putting up my Blasé Persona definitely and i can feel it's an act the whole time#but it's easier. than putting on my Responsible And Serious Adult Persona which i haven't had much experience with#in a way i feel like customer service is a bit a of a safe space for me oddly enough. i've been working customer service my whole life#trying to make people stomach and buy Me as a person
