do you guys ever stop to think about the pressures beard must've felt becoming a coach.
here he is, a recovering drug addict fresh from prison, who only got the job because his best friend vouched for him. not because of skill, necessarily, but because it was a favor. do you think about how their bosses watched beard like a hawk, monitoring both him and ted because the college can't afford to have a drug addict ex con that's on their payroll mess up. beard who became a coach not because it was his passion, but because it was an obligation. beard even said it...that ted gave him a job AND a life. coaching was a purpose, not a passion. a second chance at life, and with that comes a lot of pressure to not mess it up. especially since ted’s job and reputation were also at risk….yeah. lots of pressure.
beard putting lots of expectations on himself, because he had to prove himself to everyone around him. to himself, to ted, to their bosses, to their team, etc. beard had to prove himself. he had to put in so much work, so much effort. spending nights drawing up plans and tactics as proof that he's worthy of sticking around. researching for hours upon hours on football history and stats, because all he ever was was a backup player. and he got to a point where he felt comfortable, but that nagging feeling of needing to be good and the best is still lingering in his brain. the fear that he'll make a mistake big enough to be kicked to the curb, suddenly losing his life and purpose once more.
and i think we still see it a lot in richmond, where no doubt the fears of messing up came back to bite him in the ass. here he is, in the public eye, managing a team that (no diss at their college teams at all, but they're just different levels) actually matters. that actually has weight with the players and the people around them. see his speech in 1x09, yelling at ted because there are consequences to actions. to them getting relegated. because everything matters, of course, but to beard....it makes sense that these consequences weigh so heavily on him. beard might not have the optimism ted has, but there's reasons for it. they lose, nothing that they've done would matter. their progress is void. so they can't mess up. they can't afford to lose, because beard is physically incapable of not seeing bad things coming from miles away.
in beard after hours, we see beard blame himself for losing the man city match. his hallucinations point out his flaws, that he Should've done something else. coach beard is ted lasso's number two. he's supposed to challenge him, not just be a sniveling lackey. like....there's a lot of self worth issues that beard has had his entire life, but being a coach really does fuel it. the weight of it all, the scrambling to make right decisions, beard blaming himself for losses.........yeah.
i just think there's always been an undercurrent to how beard feels about coaching, connecting his self worth with how he performs on the pitch or in the coaching office. this isn't to say that beard doesn't love coaching, because of course he does.....but when you become a coach as a way to be rescued from drug addiction/yourself.......you'd definitely have complicated feelings towards it. having to do things right, having to be good at it, it's probably where a lot of beard's competitiveness comes from...........that nagging fear of his.

Sometimes working through religious trauma is a heartfelt hour talking about reclaiming your bodily autonomy after being sexualized and shamed from a young age with your religious trauma coach and other times it's this text message from your therapist then a caption suggestion to "show my tumblr friends":
Tumblr media
#for context my therapist is jewish#and he likes to point how Jesus was too but JC's whole story is only really told from a christian perspective#basically saying I don't have to conform or suffer for someone else's narrative#and y'all already know 'gayboy' is my favorite thing to call Jesus 'gayboy' Christ#so naturally he combined the two#But I had a great conversation about childhood neglect with my religious trauma coach today#And how overcontrolled my body was as a whole#from my hair to my health#everything was a sign of my sin somehow#even when I first got acne I had an intense fear that people would think I was having sex or dirty somehow#because my family constantly pointed out my acne#and my church at the time's girls' group taught us girls that had oral sex had acne around their lips#My medical needs were neglected#my autism was ignored or punished#etc etc#and this conversation was right after the texts from my therapist#I mean literally mins before#my car broke down so uh that's fun#and I had to switch from an in person to virtual appointment with my therapist for tomorrow#and he was like 'uh no this actually a punishment from The Lord. jk lol yeah I'll send you the telehealth link now'#and I was like 'I called Jesus 'gayboy' too many times and now I'm in Hell (my schools' shuttle system 🤢)'#[he graduated from the school i'm currently in undergrad for so hes seen the decline in our shuttle system's quality.#Ive been left for using a walker and told 'glad Im not as bad as you yet' when in a wheelchair]#and that lead to this message as well as the caption he wanted in quotes under it and ^ for tumblr#he calls yall 'my little tumblr friends'#hes so Offline I love this man#I told him tumblr will love it so yall better not make me a liar /j#this was so much information I hope y'all enjoy my lil journal entry for the day <333#ex christian#religious trauma

Things that motivate me, as an aspiring musician and a struggling student. Or maybe, The Rules.
1. It's a waste of time to be scared - in the meaning, it's a waste of time to pass up the opportunity to learn something new
2. Talent is something you make bloom
Now, you see, for me it means something quite different than for Oikawa. Cause... I'm the one with talent. For years, this quote didn't mean anything to me, but then, I looked at it from a different perspective.
It was a few days ago when it occurred to me that I'm allowed to fail. I always knew that it's okay to fail in school, at uni, at sports, but music? I'm talented, it's supposed to come naturally, I'm supposed to be perfect. But damn, music is a wide concept, isn't it? I won't be talented at all of it. I have a good ear, good voice, a talent for songwriting and I found myself a natural when it comes to the basics of music programming. But my rhythm is a bit off, my fingers are weak and I'm not talented when it comes to playing instruments. I thought it would make me sad, but all I felt was relief. Cause talent isn't something that just is, it's something you need to take care of, to work on, or you'll simply lose it. So... yeah, talent is something you make bloom. For me, it means that talent isn't enough. That talent won't mean anything if you won't work on it, won't fail, won't try again and again, hold onto things that feel way out of reach. Talent, it makes it easier to start but then, you're one your own. You're the one that makes it bloom.
3. How am I supposed to get better when I don't try new things?
4. No regrets
aka, don't regret stuff. Everything is a learning experience and you won't change the past anyway. When it comes to making decisions and it's too hard, think about what you'd regret the least.
5. "Before, I thought... if I give up music, maybe everything else in my life will get easier. What kind of half-assed thinking was that?"
Music isn't what my life is about, in contrast to Akihiko (the one saying these words). It's my greatest passion, but my career path is psychology and it won't change, I love it just as much and can find a million reasons why I shouldn't give up on it. So sometimes I think, why do I even try with music? If I don't even want to have a career, then why do I care so much about releasing it, about making it perfect? Maybe it's not worth it? But... yeah, what kind of half-assed thinking is it? It's an everyday thing for me to think that music is my everything, even if that's not entirely true. How could I give it up?
6. Don't think about what's easy. Think about what's fun.

Your past can empower you to become who you want to be. But only if you learn to listen to it carefully. We all carry old stories of who we were. The thing is, those are past tense. History, not future. Whether you love or hate the stories of your past, that ink is dry now. It’s time to keep writing. What do you want to say? There are endless possibilities within you.

Hey fitfam! Today, let's dive deep into the incredible journey of self-improvement. 🌟
Life is a continuous process of growth, and investing in our personal development is the key to unlocking our full potential. It's not about comparing ourselves to others, but rather striving to become the best version of ourselves. So, let's embark on this transformative journey together!
1️⃣ Set inspiring goals: Start by envisioning the person you aspire to be. What are your passions, dreams, and aspirations? Set specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals that align with your vision. They will serve as your roadmap, guiding you towards success.
2️⃣ Embrace self-reflection: Take time to reflect on your strengths and areas for improvement. Celebrate your achievements, no matter how small, and acknowledge the lessons learned from your mistakes. Self-reflection allows us to grow, gain self-awareness, and make positive changes.
3️⃣ Cultivate a growth mindset: Embrace challenges and view them as opportunities for growth. Believe in your ability to learn and adapt. Remember, progress is not always linear, and setbacks are part of the journey. Stay resilient, keep pushing forward, and trust in your potential.
4️⃣ Nourish your body and mind: A healthy body and mind are the foundation for personal growth. Prioritize self-care by fueling your body with nutritious foods, staying hydrated, and getting enough rest. Incorporate exercise and mindfulness practices into your routine, boosting both physical and mental well-being.
5️⃣ Surround yourself with positive influences: Seek out supportive communities, mentors, and like-minded individuals who inspire and uplift you. Surrounding yourself with positivity and encouragement can fuel your motivation and help you stay focused on your goals.
6️⃣ Embrace continuous learning: Never stop seeking knowledge and expanding your horizons. Engage in activities that challenge you intellectually. Read books, listen to podcasts, attend workshops, or take up a new hobby. The more you learn, the more you grow.
Remember, self-improvement is not a destination—it's a lifelong journey. Each step forward, no matter how small, brings you closer to becoming the best version of yourself. Embrace the process, be kind to yourself, and celebrate every milestone along the way. Let's support one another on this incredible path of self-discovery and personal growth.
You've got this, fitfam! 💪 Stay motivated, stay committed, and let's make our dreams a reality!
