I have a headcannon that at some point in his early robin days, Jason decided he wanted to be like Alfred and committed to drinking tea, using British slang and the accent while being robin.
This obviously confused the rogues a lot.
Fighting Mr. Freeze:
Jason: aye, what in the bloody hell do you think your doin? (Horrible British and gotham accent mix)
SVSSS jokes about how SQH or SQQ make modern references and everyone looks at them in confusion are all well in good. Great even, Im a big fan. But I want to play with the "standards of modesty / purity are different in modern vs ancient times" thing and have them make a reference that out of context (or even with context sometimes tbh) is just absoloutley awful down bad filth
Like. SQH is hearing someone stirring porridge or smthn and absentmindedly going, "heh. That's what good pussy sounds lik— wait. Wait no. Wait guys no. WAIT GUYS NO GUYS IM SORRY—"
SQQ looks at him in disgust from behind his fan as if he didn't have the same reflex joke thought
SQH, seeing some random, oddly phallic shaped plant he wrote into the world: twitches like a man who wants to open a comment section that does not exist then reflexively mumbles, "damn I should call her"
"I have been astonished that Men could die Martyrs for religion – I have shudder‘d at it – I shudder no more – I could be martyr‘d for my Religion – Love is my religion – I could die for that – I could die for you."
— — John Keats in a letter to his fiancé Fanny Brawne, 13 October 1819.
[GEN Z TRANSLITERATION]
“I have been astonished that Bros could die Simps for the grind – I have cring’d at it – I cringe no more – I could become a Simp for my Grind – Slaying is my grind – I could fuck with that – I could fuck with you.”
— John Yeets in a letter to his situationship Fanny Brawne, 13 October 1819.
one thing no yellowjackets fic captures is the fact that being high school girls, they def used 90's slang. Jackie was 100% telling Shauna that she was "totally buggin" whenever she got into one of her broody moods, and telling people she "gotta bounce" when she wanted to leave the party
I haven't seen anyone talking about this so this is my time to shine and finally find a use for my autism. Molly is a (very old) slang word for homosexual. It's from the same origins of "Mary-Ann", sort of (Moll was a pet form of Mary).
When Edwin says "perhaps we should follow up with this Molly character." He literally just means a homosexual person, that's what he thinks he is saying.
Yeah there is no point just enjoy this information.
One of my favourite bits from this ep was when Freddie mixed up gen Z/alpha lingo and immediately got called out on it. Then his defence was gen Z’s trying to adapt to new slang because they’ve realized they’re not cool anymore.
I just remembered that when Dick was in the circus and shared a bunk bed with a performer named Tombo, he was so bothered by Tombo's snoring that he decided he was going to go sleep in a tree.
