#tim is jason's placeholder

I will never have enough of that angst where Tim purposefully sets himself up to be Jason's actual placeholder. He doesn't "replace" Jason because that would imply Tim has worth as himself. No, he becomes what Jason was. He allows himself to be called by the dead Robin's name both in and out of mask. He lets a grieving family pretend he's someone else.
Tim becomes useful. Not because he's Tim, but because he reminds them of Jason.

Reading through your list of WIPs, I was like, “T-posing for dominance? That sounds fun.” But then I saw Red Devil Rowdy and OH MY GOD I NEVER KNEW I NEEDED THIS CROSSOVER.
Tumblr media
For Essays on T-Posing, the concept was, "Janet Drake is Loki" and it's my first honest attempt at a Tim-centric fic. (I've actually been waiting for someone to ask about this one because I think it's pretty fun, at least to me anyway.) Emjoy lmfao.
* Crack Treated Seriously * Mama Loki (possible tie in with the Loki series? Like they're a variant? have not decided) * Weird/Annoying Siblings as Roommates * Power activation and Learning Curve(?) * Nobody else knows but they're suspicious
--
“I wasn’t aware you had a dog, Drake,” Damian’s voice, level and forcibly calm in what Tim knew was an effort to keep from cracking, said from somewhere in the living room with Mild Interest.
“A big dog,” Jason said. He shifted, “What the hell is it? A Pyrenees? You could make a whole other animal out of this hair.”
Damian scoffed, “It’s the wrong color,” like everyone had encyclopedic knowledge of different dog breeds built into their brains.
“He's a hybrid, actually,” Tim said after he finished quietly knocking his forehead against the door frame because god, what a time for a health and wellness check. “Canis Lupus - Gray Wolf, and some Irish Wolfhound. I think.”
“You think?” Jason echoed back, incredulous.
“I haven’t exactly had time to get him DNA tested, Jason.” Not that Fenrir would let Tim get anywhere near him unless a turkey leg or peanut butter filled Kong was involved.
“Where is he?” Damian said, the can-I-meet-your-dog tunnel vision activated at full strength.
Hopefully not terrorizing some poor idiot with mom somewhere. “At doggy obedience school.”
“Without you to guide him? For every dog there are two participants when it comes to obedience school, Drake.”
-- -*-*- Y'all gonna make my head blow up like Megamind over your reception of Red Devil Rowdy, lmao. I'll share a little more about it since you mentioned it in your ask.
* Jason (and batfam) is the only one that know the Gang is real because they've worked with Bruce at the beginning of his vigilante career * Danny is still fairly early in his Phantom days (14 years old, can't remember if I mentioned that in the first ask) * Mentor Jason, Velma and Daphne vibes * Bobby Singer basically functions as the team Fairy God Mother

trick or treat!!!
i don't!! remember if i've shared this specific snippet or not
i hope i haven't
but anyway, i am. ALMOST FINISHED with this one <3 if the last section could simply cooperate with me--
Tumblr media
Jason’s throat feels suddenly thick. He swallows. They're trained to be observant; to catalog everything they see, just in case. But there’s something about being noticed by Tim, knowing he was paying enough attention to Jason, specifically, to see it that flays him open. “At least I remember to eat,” he manages, finally.
Tim snorts. “We get about the same amount of sleep, though.”
“Pit-enhanced metabolism,” Jason says promptly.
That earns him another snort. “Maybe I should have let Ra’s throw me in,” he says thoughtfully.
Jason nudges him with an elbow. “Not funny.”
“Says the man who keeps threatening to turn his own coffin into a coffee table.”
“I’m just saying, it’s going to waste, rotting in the ground like that, with nothing in it!”
Tim laughs, quiet but still oh-so-bright. “Maybe, but you’re hogging all of Bruce’s gray hair. Leave some for Duke and Damian.”
Jason sighs, as put-upon as he can. “Fine. If I have to.”

(T)imposter Syndrome
He didn't need Jason (his hero) beating him to a bloody pulp and calling him "replacement". He was already painfully aware he was a placeholder.
Alfred kept him at arm's length and Bruce could barely speak a sentence to him that wasn't case related. Dick was a light in the darkness, but even he was trying to prove he could be a good brother because he failed with Jason. His parents only tolerated his existence on the best of days, and the Titans were not the family Dick promised they would be. (Maybe Kon would miss him)
He had photographed the costumed Wayne's from afar for years. It was pathetic and sad, but because of it he knew them. He knew he was being looked through. Even if they were looking through him though, they were looking to him. It was beyond pathetic, but he could handle the vacant stares if it meant their eyes were on him.
Laying in a pool of his own blood, Tim stared at the steadily darkening ceiling. He hadn't cried when Jason attacked him, when his hero back-from-the-dead jammed their symbol into his chest. He hadn't cried when Jason walked away, leaving him to die alone. As strange as it was, he decided he wouldn't cry about this. He should've known better, he didn't deserve to cry about his folly. (I'll give you something to cry about.)
His eyes closed of their own accord, and he used whatever strength he had left to yank the bloodied R from his chest. This was what he deserved for trying to be the one in front of the camera.

Demon's Head
All use Talia, but that is boring. Here is Nyssa's descendant Danny's idea. (Grandma or similiar) + Damian looked at his family as they traveled into the future. They could meet the LoA to talk about them helping them against those villains. They had lost in the past but he knew his granfather would have a plan in the future and would help his heir.
But his grandfather wasn't the Demon's Head anymore, but his cousin? He had no idea he existed, but he learned he was his aunt Nyssa's descendant. It was kind of shocking for him and the group to learn Damian was the replacement/placeholder until one of the siblings took Ra's place, as Danny did. After the chaos, the mind-controlled Justice League, because of that villain, Danny took over from Ra.
Danny then opened a Lazarus green portal and left with Rose, just leaving Damian behind, who looked shocked. He had no idea you could control Lazarus that way. His grandfather never shows him this! Jason then started to laugh; first Tim was his replacement, and now he learns that Talia and Damian too were replacements! Hahahaha! They can now be together as replacements.
A/N Ra's is living his life in retirement with the Ghost of Sora in Amity Park. Under the massive Shield! Leave him alone, Batman or Grandson; I am busy being a family man.
Danny is dating Rose after working with her for a few years on missions.

1-Do you think with all the attention and trauma dick gets from sexual relationships and the people associated with them, do you think Dick would decide to be acesexual?
2-there should be a comic where batman is afraid of Nightwing, for all the shit he's put his adopted or not kids through, especially the boys.
3-Also, if you have read the Gotham War series or not, to feel dick might become the next Pennyworth type of the family? (Basically, someone who has to take care of the whole family, as Bruce keeps awoling from his problems in life?

Do you think with all the attention and trauma dick gets from sexual relationships and the people associated with them, do you think Dick would decide to be acesexual?
Honestly I didn't know so I looked it up because I didn't want a bunch of backlash over someone can become asexual after a traumatic experience or if it's not possible to become it, only that they already are. Half the people say yes, it's possible and the other half say no. Regardless, I understand what you're saying and think he would be averse to sexual contact for a long period of time after that.
there should be a comic where batman is afraid of Nightwing, for all the shit he's put his adopted or not kids through, especially the boys.
YES!!!! Actually I think Bruce is actually the most scared of Dick though canonically. In the Batman vs Robin comic, Bruce has to face and fight the greatest regrets and fears for each of his robins. Each robin tells their most candid regret/unresolved matter to Bruce
Tim

Tim's grievance is that Bruce replaced him and he did nothing. That's so freaking heavy!

He didn't even try with her. She was always a replacement for Tim. No a replacement would have been better-she was just a placeholder. His blatant disregard of her directly caused her death.
Jason
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Batman vs Robin Issue #3
All Jason wanted from Bruce was love but Bruce-he just villainized his son instead of trying to save him. He just wanted to be saved but Bruce just abandoned him out of self-hatred.
All three are massive insecurities/regrets Batman-Bruce-faces but none of these stop him. He just beats them down and moves on like they're nothing. He knows they're possessed but his mission is always the most important thing for him. Or does he keep moving on because his mind is too strong?

Batman vs Robin Issue #3
The hardest one to face is the last one left.

It's Dick that breaks him. He can face any fear and grievance by the robins but Dick's? He can't bear to face his.

Batman vs Robin Issue #3
Bruce's only saving grace is that it's the sword making them say all this. If the sword didn't exist and Dick straight up said it from his soul, this would be the end of Batman. When he heard Dick say all that, he completely lost his will to fight. All his desire and motivation? Gone.
Dick is his greatest source of strength and biggest weakness. If something were to happen to Dick, it would be the end for the rest of the world. But if Dick were to be disappointed in Bruce, he would wallow in self-hatred and change his ways.
Based on their exchange, Bruce believes Dick is his equal in battle and skill. Uncontested best and he probably knows Dick can beat him. Dick actually beat him in this comics and he also beat the heck out of superman-powered Batman before Bruce used his superpowers on him.
As well as here

Batman vs Robin Issue #5
He's proud of what Dick can do. But I think he's terrified of him because of the sway Dick holds over him. And that, I believe, is a worse form of attack than even battle power.
Also, if you have read the Gotham War series or not, to feel dick might become the next Pennyworth type of the family? (Basically, someone who has to take care of the whole family, as Bruce keeps awoling from his problems in life?
Yup! Absolutely do! But Dick has always been running the batfamily whenever Bruce is gone. When Bruce died and Gotham needed a Batman-

Titans (2008) Issue #10
"Nightwing belongs to two families. And all of you...you're good. You have each other."
"I have to go take care of my other family. In Gotham."
(Can we just take a moment to appreciate how they're all holding onto Dick? Roy and Gar holding Dick's right hand, Kori and Donna hugging him, Wally holding Dick's left land, Victor wiht hand on his back? Ugh the feels. Love the Titans comics)
He's always taking care of the Batfamily. Bruce leaving will just make it his full time role instead.
As a new fan of comic lore about the DC universe and the Batfamily, should Bruce be forced to retire Batman if these psychological issues keep appearing?
Oooh no. I don't think Bruce should ever retire as Batman. I LOVE Batman Dick. I'm debating whether I love him more than Nightwing Dick - jury's still out on that but Bruce should never retire as Batman. Bruce Wayne is Batman. Dick was a better batman but Bruce is iconic for the role. He created it, he lived it, he sacrificed for it. Even with all his problems, he deserves that role. It takes a toll on him that even he can't handle but if he dies, he deserves to die in that Cape and Cowl. He's earned it in every sense of the word.
He's an absolute wreck of a man but I love him that way. I love him with his problems and I will honestly forgive him of almost anything. He wouldn't be Bruce if he didn't have mental problems and I'm going to keep rooting for this walking disaster through everything. I don't think he should ever give it up until Terry. I love him too much of a character to ever see him be anything but Batman.

Kon stared on in horror. It couldn't be. It couldn't be real?
Everything about this was wrong. Nothing about this made sense. It was repugnant. It was unnatural. Nothing here was right. Yet he could do nothing, do nothing with the green crystal collar at his neck.
Yet still, his eyes didn't lie as he saw Tim ponder over the blades at Dick's and Damian's throats. Jason stood to the side waiting, humbled and collared, his hood made a mockery in the form of a scarlet owl mask. The Red Hood humbled, collared and brought to heel.
Tim almost looked bored before his brothers who strained against blades that threatened their lives.
Kon couldn't move, terrified at the thought that he could fuck it all up even further, even as the kryptonite bit at his neck.
At Tim's shoulder lurked the cause: Bernard. The Serpent in the Garden that spoke honeyed words of affirmation, support and love. That spoke the machinations of Janet. Of plans years in the making. Of isolation and manipulations. Of promised futures and possibilities. Whose every needled word and serpent bite exposed an insecurity and hurt. Who carefully manoeuvred Tim into playing the assigned role.
"Go on Tim. They don't love you." Bernard kissed along Tim's jaw. "They always saw you as a placeholder. A cuckoo."
Damian wept against his austere training. A small child in a harsh world, met with an opponent far more broken and warped than he could have been trained for. One that he himself had primed and trained: a brother exiled and scorned.
"You're so right Bern...always so right." Tim murmured, pulling Bernard's fist into a kiss. "And what does a cuckoo do?"
"Please Timothy." Damian begged, for Dick's tongue had already been ripped out. "Don't do this."
"A cuckoo chick, kicks all the other eggs out of the nest." Tim stated and brought the knife to Damian's neck.
Damian felt the tears fall readily and unashamedly. The little boy was scared.
"Don't worry Damian, I'll make up a lie. I'll say you died by Ra's hand. Fighting to save us against him. But sadly your youth failed you and I was too late. Dick had already been too late..."
Damian didn't hold the tears back.
"Jason came too late as well, and we finished them off." Tim continued as he played with Bernard's hand. "They took out Barbara too. Priority target."
"Timothy...Tim...please..." Damian begged.
"Tshush...Tshush " Dick choked as he fought against the blood in his mouth.
"It will be such a shame as Bruce sees Alfred killed. He'll see it as Talia attacking. The final assault." Tim reflected as he brushed his thumb over Bernard's knuckles. His beautiful Castellan. "And as Bruce fights tooth and nail to protect his fortress...he'll see his soldiers fallen, compromised and dead..."
"Timothy...please." Damian begged as the blade dug into his throat.
"Oh Damian, you were never even a contender." Tim laughed. "You called yourself a Prince of Gotham because you were Bruce's Bastard?"
The raucous laughter and cawing of the Court made Damian shrink as far in as he could on his small frame.
"Pathetic little bastard. Bruce never loved you. You were an obligation. I was the one he trusted. Not the worst thing though, to be the trusted one. At least I'll make sure Gotham is safe. Once we've cut out all of the cancer. Heroes...villains...what is really the difference?"
"Nothing, my love." Bernard kissed into Tim's knuckle.
"You're right as always my Heart." Tim smiled, and looked to his Talons. "Talons, remove these Robins from my sights. Repurpose them for grander designs. And take this Kryptonian to my Chambers."
"I'll see it done, my Lord." The Rufous Owl bowed, and Tim nodded in agreement.
It was only when they were alone, and free of any bugs that the Rufous Owl turned to Dick and Damian and whispered. "I'll try and get you both out of here. But he's fucking unstoppable. Why the fuck did you fight?"

The most random reverse robins Au ever
note: Robin is just a placeholder until I come up with a name
Reverse Batfam Damian is the first Robin. He gets shot by the Joker and is paralyzed. This causes him to have a falling out with Bruce and leave. Bruce becomes more violent, cue his little stalker.
Tim comes in to help Bruce, taking over as Robin. He spends a good amount of time trying to get Bruce and Damian to talk to each other. Damian hates the kid but does eventually listen and comes back. Damian takes on an under an oracle-type role. He and Tim develop a sibling-type relationship.
Stephine trains under Tim to become the next Robin (Stephine and Jason are the same age) as he has plans on leaving the role to create his own team.
Tim gets hurt bad on a patrol trying to help someone. Damians on the headset the entire time talking to him as Tim lays bleeding out. Tim's death shatters Bruce and Damian's relationship.
Steph despises the Robin mantel and refuses to take it becoming her own none bat vigilante. She cuts out everything that has to do with the bats and the Waynes until she sees a ghost running across the rooftops.
Jason gets his normal backstory and becomes Robin. At first, Steph hates him because she sees him as a replacement for Tim. Slowly they do become friends but she still can not stand the robin mantle and is scared it will take Jason just like it took Tim.
Tim comes back via Red Hood arc only Ra's does not get to control him like he did Jason. Instead, Tim plays Ra's, destroys the Lazarus pit, leaves the league in shabbles than starts up his own team with Roy and Rose. The pit messes with his head making him cold and dangerous, he stays away from the bats to protect them.
Cass is sent to kill Tim instead he takes her and trains her. Barbra becomes Casse's little shadow and dick is a nightmare child but I'll get to that later.
Notes:
Pairings would be Steph&Jason and Tim&Rose
Wally is Damian's best friend
Damian stays Parlized; no plot convenient fix like in the comics

Batkids ranked from best to worst candidate to take over the Batman mantle according to my very objective (/sarcasm) opinions:
Cass: Cass is loyal to the bat symbol before all else; the bat pulled her out of an aimless, guilt-ridden existance and gave her purpose, a chance to help others, and she takes this very very seriously. She's canonically the most similar to Bruce out of everyone, and values the no killing rule more than him. She wants the job so bad, because to her, Batman is everything she could ever hope to be. Continuing the bat symbol into a new generation, to help and inspire others like her, would be the greatest honor for her. Becoming Batman would be the natural conclusion of her arc.
Dick: Has canonically been Batman and did very well at it, better even than Bruce, canonically. But Nightwing fits him better. He adapted to the Batman mantle, and eventually stopped being miserable in it, but it was a choice made out of necessity, not personal drive. Nightwing was his own creation and fits him like a second skin. He can do Batman, he can do it well, but it won't be natural for him like it would be for Cass.
Steph: There's a fucking curveball for you. Honestly Steph is here bc other than Cass and Dick I don't think there's a good choice for Batman, if Bruce kicks it and neither of them are around I think Batman should just die, but for the sake of this list we will look at how much I'd enjoy seeing the other kids take up the mantle in canon. Steph becoming Batman would be so funny. It'd be a great storytelling opportunity because there's no way she should even be in line so what happened? How does she deal with it? But most importantly, once again, it'd be SO FUNNY if Steph got the mantle of Batman after Bruce treated her as shittily as he did. That's what you get old man.
Tim: idk he'd handle the job badly and would be miserable but this is my list and I don't really care about him so he's here as a placeholder. If Tim became Batman I'd be annoyed but not enraged. So there.
Duke: Perhaps an unpopular opinion among Duke fans but I fucking hate the idea of Batman!Duke. It can work in very specific Elseworld circumstances like Dark Knights Metal but in the mainline continuity? Absolutely tf not. Duke's whole Thing is a radical departure from the batfam's status quo. He's thematically and literally attached to daylight, he has superpowers. Both of those are already wildly antithetical to Batman. In addition: his current hero identity is an homage to his mother. Why would he throw that away? Batman!Duke could be interesting for an arc or two, because all this WOULD make for interesting narrative conflict, but permanently? It'd be a wild misuse of Duke's character to take a character designed to defy the status quo and stick him in a mantle that exists to uphold it. If Bruce dies and Duke's the only one that could take over, Batman should die and Signal should take his place.
Damian: FUCK Batman!Damian all my homies HATE Batman!Damian. All those arcs and character development about how blood doesn't define him only for him to let blood define him, just on the other side of his family? You're all so fucking boring and you should feel bad. And while we're here, no he shouldn't be Nightwing either, that's only slightly less bad, why would stepping from one Dick Grayson legacy mantle to another denote character growth? I have OPINIONS on this. Damian should create his own identity to show that he's grown into his own and found his own path outside of his families. Also 90% of the arguments for Batman!Damian hinge on blood relations which is weird and creepy and also very very very boring.
Jason: I don't think I need to explain this.
Any variant of sharing the mantle: Every time the 'who should be the next batman' debate comes up there's always SOME motherfucker insisting that x and y can just share and two things to that: 1) coward, are you gonna hand out participation trophies next? 2) Batman should not be a status symbol. The batfam should not be a hierarchy with Batman at the top. That's the most boring way possible to approach the Batman mantle. I get that's what DC does in canon, but in canon, they won't ever let Bruce die permanently anyway, so what canon does is kinda a moot point. And frankly? Pretty much all 'x and y should share' arguments seem to be based in the idea that Batman is automatically a better, more prestigious mantle than all others, and that being deprived of it means you're worse than whoever took it. They want everyone to hold the mantle simulaneously because they don't want their fave(s) to 'lose'. It's not a competition of skill, it's a matter of narrative satisfaction. And the only character whose arc would be actively strengthened by becoming Batman is Cass. She shouldn't get it because she's the best fighter, or lose/share it because she's not the best detective; she should get it because it would be a perfect bookend to her arc of self hatred and self determination via the bat. Everyone else is better off with a solo identity or a different legacy mantle. So no, sharing is not a magic solution; it's a cop out.

Uhhhh
I'm kinds sorta writing this for @ramsywasalittlelamb cause they're rly coolandiadmirethemandirlyliketheirficslolanyways-
This is a tim drake fiction based around the kind of fiction ramsy writes (they're rly cool you should like, go check them out) anyways, onto the story. This has angst with some comfort btw lolol
Tw for cursing and angst (sorry if you guys don't rly like that it's just kinda based on my experiences with this topic kinda so-)
_______________________________________________
Cuckoo
It wasn't his fault. None of it was.
Not his parents leaving him to go on digs or to go away for business meetings and such, not for having to spend most of his childhood alone in his big house. Not being able to experience a some-what normal childhood like most of the world did. Well, if you could consider normal childhoods like figuring out which Rouge, villain, or hero you'd wanna be for Halloween and risk the chance of that hero or villain seeing you out like that and taking a picture with you at least.
And it wasn't like Tim was jealous that he didn't get a "normal" childhood- or life for that matter! His parents provided safety, a large mansion that he graciously lived in for most of his life, food, access to just about anything technology wise, and utilities! Most gothamites didn't even have three of those things. Just because of the fact that he didn't have a some-what normal childhood didn't mean that Tim was jealous of other people for that. Heck, he should be grateful!
Then why did he have this feeling in the back of hit throat whenever he was stressed out when cases were loaded onto him? Why did he start to feel a bit to overwhelmed than usual when things with his share of WE and Red Robin got to much? It didn't use to be like this, well, maybe it was. Maybe he just didn't really notice it before. Or maybe he did, maybe he did notice it and just push it down with every other burden in his life.
Yeah he's gone through a crazy ton of stuff, who hasn't? For Christ's sake, at least he still had basic necessities. And he had somewhat of a family, it was more than what was offered to him when he was birthed at least. Yeah they were a handful, and stressful- but that was only because they cared about him. At least he thinks so, it would make sense if they didn't. As a matter of fact he knows they probably don't as much. He was just a placeholder, a pretender. Heck, he stalked them for Christ's sake. He's a weirdo. It's been made known multiple, times before. Dick wanted to send him away to Arkham when Bruce "died", Jason tried to kill him, heck they still weren't on the bestest of terms after that. Damian tried to kill him on multiple occasions and resents him. Steph...
He scoffs, rolling his eyes a bit.
"Hell if I know with her anymore."
Red Robin and Nightwing were currently patrolling the west side of the city, near the docks. Nightwing had gone towards the outer city part of the docks, leaving Red Robin alone for the time being closer to the boats. Letting out a huff of air, RR leapt from shipping container to shipping container.
"S'not like they even need me..like, why the hell am I even here?..I jus' like-"
A minorly erupt thud comes from one of the shipping containers after RR lands on it rather roughly- the big bad bat wouldn't be proud at that one.
"Ow- shit-.. whatever. Jesus fuc- why in the world am I even here?? Like, really."
Red Robin softly taped his ear piece twice, connecting it to the line where Nightwing and Oracle where the only ones residing.
"It's a slow night..Wing, check in."
The line beeped once for confirmation.
"Nothing much here Red, I'm gonna head back to the cave before I leave for blud tomorrow. You should head back soon too."
RR squatted down onto the shipping container, "Will do wing. RR out." A soft beeping noise could be heard, letting him know that the line had been closed for the night.
Sighing, Red Robin leapt from container to container until finnally grappling onto a nearby building.
This is what he liked to do most, it was his favorite personal thing to do when he had first became Robin. Feeling the cool Gotham air fill his hair and lungs as he flew from rooftop to rooftop. It was like his form of a teenage rebellion. Defying all laws of gravity and life and just living. Just flying.
Seeing the cave entrance at last he snuck in silently, not like that make any differences, seeing as it required a DNA confirmation and retinal scan along with multiple passwords and confirmation in order to get in. Dicks request, after everything with Talon and the Court of Owls of course. Although Tim considered it overkill.
"Batman, Hood." Tim acknowledged. Earning a grunt and a roughened dismissal, "hey" in return.
Shedding his uniform and hitting the showers, letting the warm water run off of his hair and body. Letting his thoughts run free.
He must've been in there for a while, cause when he came to from his trance the locker room had become misty with steam. Drying off and changing clothes with haste, he finishes up and steps back out into the cave.
"Crap-"
He thinks, quickly noticing the shift in atmosphere from the hot bathroom and the seemingly icy one of the cave. He's gotta get outta here, the quick change from hot to cold does not pair well with having no spleen. In which no one on the team really knows about. It's not really their business anyways, if they really wanted to know more about him, the world's greatest detective could've just figured it out himself.
"Tim?" God damnit.
Tim halts midway up the stairway, "Yeah? Is there something you need B?"
"Yeah...come here for a moment please."
"Fuuuuckkkk" He mentally reprimanded himself.
Stepping down with as much haste as his already tired legs would let him, Tim walks up to Bruce and the Batcomputer.
"Yeah B? What's up?"
Without even turning towards him, Bruce hands Tim a large envelope. "This is new info on the Dowry case. New info showed up, the father apparently left the kid alone for weeks on end. I need you to investigate why he did and what he was doing during this time."
Tim opens the envelope slightly, glazing over its contents.
"Okay..thanks B." Tim rushes up the staircase and shuts the clock behind him. Great. Just great. Not only did he already have to try and push back that godforsaken feeling in his throat and head away, but he had to do even more paperwork and had the chance of catching a stupid cold. All just because dumb ol' Batsy couldn't wait until tomorrow to give him this case. He couldn't really blame Bruce for that though..that was stupid, and childish.
Mopely shrugging to his room and flopping lazily onto his bed, Tim rips open the envelope and sets down the paperwork and photographs. Cold, hard, evidence. Tim could do that, simple enough. Can't fuck up cold hard set in stone facts. This was good, this was something he was good at.
As the hours past, Tim had gotten so in the zone with this case it was almost solved. The dad was off in Kansas reliving his glory days for some strange reason, and in doing that had just left his kid off in their house to fend for themselves.
And that's when it hit him, hard.
He could see himself in the kid, little Timothy Jackson Drake. So mature for his age, so smart. He skipped a grade in school don't you know? He's able to fend for himself.
The kid was almost just like him in some aspects, same short black hair, pale skin, blue eyes- oh god-
His parents.
He could see his parents in those eyes.
Those eyes that were almost like his mother's. Those sharp, demanding eyes.
Tim hadn't even realized he was staring at the picture until water began to stain the photo, making it rise with bumps after a while.
Jesus, why was he even crying? S'not like it's even a big deal. He can take care of himself, maybe this kid couldn't but that was just because he was a kid!! Tim was different. Tim had been smarter than all the other kids in his grades he has straight A's, he excelled.
That was the difference between him and this kid.
He wouldn't understand the type of pain that this kid went through, he couldn't.
Then why was that feeling back stronger than ever? Why did he feel a blooming warmth in his chest, trying to fill that void? Why did his head feel light and misty like a cloud? And why did he kind of want it to take over?
Setting down the photo and leaning back, he runs his hands through his hair, sighing.
"I don't know what's wrong with me...what's wrong with me...why am I like this.."
Soft tears ran down rose pink cheeks, landing on the soft bedding below. What if..what if he let the mist take over? Just for once? Maybe just..softly. He didn't even know what that feeling was but, it seemed to slightly feel good. Maybe it would make him feel better if he laid down. Tim turned off his bedside lamp and got up.
Pulling up the covers, he got under them and closed his eyes. Slowly letting the warmth blossom in his chest and take over, drifting softly to sleep.

RobStar Week 2022, Day 7 - Generations
(More domestic RobStar Flying Graysons family because I said so.)
---
"Hey Starshine," Nightwing said, coming over to stand behind his daughter where she sat at the kitchen table, adjusting his gauntlet.  "What are you working on?"
"Class project!" Mar'i said eagerly, straightening in her chair and turning her homework around for him to see it.  "We're making family trees!"
He leaned over the table to look at the paper.  The yellow ceiling light cast a bright circle on the paper.  In the center Mar'i had glued small pictures, printed from the extensive photo files on their family computer no doubt, connected by bright red marker lines and scribbled labels identifying each member.  It was still half-finished—his whole side of the tree had yet to be filled in beyond a placeholder for Bruce—but it looked neat and tidy and simple to understand.
"See?" Mar'i said excitedly, pointing out his and Kory's pictures, and tracing the lines that branched down to her and Jake.  "There's you, and mommy, and Jake!"
"Not bad," he complimented, patting the girl on her back.  "Coming along really well."
She beamed.  "Yeah.  Mom's side was pretty easy."  Her red marker tip moved back up to Kory and now followed the tree up her line.  "There's Grandma and Grandpa, and Auntie Blackfire, and Uncle Wildfire."  She paused a moment, giving a sulky pout.  "But mommy says I have to call them 'Koma' and 'Ryan' on my homework."
Nightwing chuckled, leaning back and cracking his wrist.  "Well your mom's right," he said.  "Your aunt and uncle do technically have secret identities to keep."
Kory walked by the table at that moment, passing them, a sleepy pajama-clad Jake slumped on her shoulder.  She paid him a grateful smile, as she carried the little boy on her hip.  Nightwing's heart warmed at the sight, Jake's squished cheek and droopy legs looking absolutely precious.
"Are you getting ready to head out?" Kory asked him, tucking her hand behind Jake's head.
He nodded.  "In about another fifteen minutes or so."
"Mar'i requested assistance filling out your side of the tree," she told him.  She turned.  "I will put Jake to bed and be back down shortly," she promised.
She headed towards the stairs.
Nightwing pulled out a chair, the legs squealing on the floor, and sat himself down next to his daughter.  "What do you need help with, babygirl?" he asked.
Mar'i's face scrunched up.  "I... don't know where to put Alfred," she confessed.
"Hmm," Nightwing considered, pressing pensive knuckles into his lips.  That was a bit of a conundrum.  He wasn't Bruce's father, though he often took on a fatherly role.  Perhaps an uncle?  "What does your assignment say?"
"Um..."  Mar'i shuffled through her stack of pictures until she found her homework sheet.  "It just says to draw your family tree."
Nightwing tapped her paper.  "Put him down as an uncle or godfather," he suggested.  Spotting something on Kory's side of the tree he added, "Like you did with Galfore."
Mar'i's red pen scratched a notation next to Bruce's portrait, then she flicked through her pictures until she found a good one of Alfred and grabbed up a pair of scissors.  Nightwing watched her carefully cutting an oval around Alfred's face and head.
"Any other questions?" he asked.
"I don't know how many people to put on your side," she admitted, ducking her eyes with a sheepish look.
He chuckled.  "Yeah, there's a lot of them."  He leaned forward, resting his arms on the table.  "How about we limit it to just your aunts and uncles?"
Mar'i nodded, accepting the logic, and drew her paper back towards her to scribble out the names—Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Damian Wayne, Babs Gordon.
She added Cassie and Cass off to the side and then set about drawing all the connecting lines.  Nightwing watched with fascination, mentally adding and continuing the family tree in his head.  His parents.  Galfore's wife and children.  Thomas and Martha Wayne.  Raven.  Beast Boy.  Cyborg.  The branches grew and split, growing ever-larger, until his mental picture was much bigger than what could fill his daughter's little sheet.
He marveled a little, to himself.  For a short terrible time he'd had no family, after the only one he'd ever known were killed, and now he had so many connections, so many people in his life.
Kory's soft steps came back down the stairs.  She came up behind Mar'i's chair and looked over her daughter's shoulder, then clapped her hands.
"Oh it looks wonderful, Mar'i!" she praised.
Their daughter beamed, a radiant smile.  "Help me find some good pictures!" she requested eagerly, brushing dust off her family tree and capping her marker.
Mother and father both sorted through the stack of printed papers with their daughter, pausing to admire and laugh over some, gaze at others wistfully.
"Oh!" Mar'i said, when they had finished picking out the portraits.  "Almost forgot."
She grabbed up her marker again and wrote at the top in tall capital letters, very neatly.
"I.  Love.  My.  Family," she sounded out as she wrote each word.
Kory's eyes glittered at him as she smiled at him overtop Mar'i's head.  Nightwing grinned back.
"Me too, kiddo," he said.  "Me too."

AU Baby Stalker Tim universe hopping
In this AU, babystalker!Tim gets hit with a portal gun (or something) and winds up in Gotham around 7 or 8 years in the future. He was in Crime Alley when he got hit, so that's where he is when the lights stop imitating the absolute worst kaleidoscope to exist meshed with LED car headlights.
Hearing some poor kid probably upchucking in an alley of the worst area of town, Red Hood goes to investigate. He finds what must be a baby ("I'm 10!") clutching an expensive camera.
If that's not weird, the child has no clue who Red Hood is. Not that Red Hood knows who the child is. Maybe an out-of-towner?
[There's barely any baby photos of Tim and Jason wasn't around at the early Robin stages.]
The kid is ecstatic (and slightly confused) to learn that Crime Alley, the area that Robin comes from, has a protector! There's another vigilante Tim can add to his collection (and subtly stalk).
While Tim ponders who this guy is and what his identity might be, Jason is concerned as hell that this infant is following him to his safehouse. Has no one taught him stranger danger?
Eventually, after annoyingly growing fond of the gremlin, Jason realizes two facts: this kid is from a different universe, and the child is the infant version of the placeholder.
Although Jason is upset he has to deal with this situation and somehow Red Robin fucked his day over, the crime lord can't take the anger out on pre-Robin Tim. The "I'm-probably-emotionally-neglected-and-have-no-clue-what-puppy-dog-eyes-are" puppy dog eyes are way too powerful.
Jason drags himself to the cave to have the Bats help him with this situation. Their current relationship is tentative, slightly aggressive coworkers. They don't trust each other, but they also no longer attack on sight.
Tim is hiding behind Red Hood as he stomps into the cave. Everyone else becomes alert and wary at his presence. Hood usually only appears when it's urgent.
Before Red Hood can introduce Tim and get into the issue, the kid peeks out from behind him. He notices how the other vigilantes are so hostile to the man that's been nothing but nice to Tim. He doesn't understand. He tugs the man's pants, causing the man to look down at him and says:
"They look so angry... Why does everyone always look at you that way?"
Red Robin startles at hearing a younger version of himself ask that of Hood.
The Red Robin feels his heart break at realizing that his childhood hero still exists in the figure of Red Hood. The man just isn't safe to the current Tim.
Both Jason and Tim come to the realization that a younger Tim would've trusted Hood. He would've defended the protector of Crime Alley.
Jason feels his world start to tremble with the idea that he would've loved a younger version of Tim. He would've felt protective and caring. The sight of him wouldn't drive anger and betrayal. If he hadn't attacked Tim, he might still look at him as if he wasn't a monster.

mer au ramblings under cut ↓
i was thinking about the mers and their behaviors in particular-- i can't remember if i've ever really talked about it (if i have it's on one of the older posts? probably under one of the asks from capricorn) but bc i had spotted that recent thing i drew in my canvas library the mers are so cat-like in my head. or something. i do think they hide under their tails a lot when they get upset or embarrassed and stuff but that's probably more coming from i think they hide away in little caves and stuff normally and its like just a placeholder behavior sorta deal. they like the dark and small spaces bc like tims got that cave he likes to go to a lot (he takes kon there eventually--idk if ive ever mentioned tims little hideaway lol)
i do think they also like to smack each other with their tails as a playing thing which is fun until its a human and they get absolutely wasted by 30+ lbs of pure muscle. i do think it would be hilarious if in some of the first interactions dick smacks someone and there is very quickly rules established. he ends up only being able to play with jason until he goes . "missing". (tbh this is making me think about little dick and jason and im getting very teary. thinking about bruce deciding to reach out to the humans as a way to help protect both himself and his sons from poachers and stuff. gets them access to medicine.)
i DO think that dick and jason woulda been much closer in this though and i feel like being honest mers kinda have shorter lifespans in the wild? (bruce is probably still pretty young by human standards i think, but is getting up there by mer standards) limited access to food + getting into fights + poachers. actually the fighting aspect is interesting to me because i dont think i've thought much of it before? the only natural defenses they have are teeth, nails and tail. i think mer fights would probably be very quick and typically escalate fairly fast. (also realizing bruce would definitely be a killer in this au by virtue of protecting his territory + his family. wonder if it would turn into a more he doesnt want his kids to have to ever kill? but idk bc that would be a part of the lifestyle of a mer, and they would need to know how to defend themselves anyway) weak points definitely tail fins and throat. fins specifically because they cant swim without them so they'd just kinda sink and rot at the bottom of the ocean if they dont have someone helping them; which is to say in the case of shredded fins because jason kept his fins but theres holes in them which Does effect his swimming speed but only because of the holes and not the material of his fin (i do think the humans have tech that could theoretically replace tail fins in order to help them swim again but they wouldn't be as durable as their natural fins. wouldn't be able to tolerate fast swimming. probably what would've happened to babs--i don't think ive ever addressed her in this au? i should go and design some of the people that are missing. i think shed be reallyyyy pretty.) but i think that once a fight is determined to be to death they just go for the throat/gills.
regardless that is to say that the hiding behavior i think is funny and i do fully believe the first time kon or jon sees it they immediately make a cat comment and then show pictures. depending on who the mer is/their landside education they dont even know what cats are which would be kinda funny i think. hilarious to me if damian convinces jon to bring a cat because he wants to meet it (he definitely still loves animals--probably bffsies w some of the sharks and other animals in their territory.) I DESPERATELY WANT KON TO BRING KRYPTO oh god kory would have a heart attack if he snuck krypto in. bart would love him. i think tim and cassie would be a little ehhh about him but krypto so sweet just a little baby .
i had talked about a while ago that i should try to work bernard in--i think itd be kinda silly if there were a bunch of tims like comic HS friends that are just interns or something in different areas of the facility and stuff and they all end up kinda becoming friends anyway. bernard, darla, ives, etc. idrc if it doesnt make sense this entire au is a trainwreck anyway lol
ACTUALLY very funny to me i was thinking abt how tim gets a little demanding in getting carried/carted around on land and he finds out kinda quick most the people there can't actually lift them up (kon can technically lift tim/bart/cassie but he Struggled at first). him asking ives to take him to a different tank and ives just gives him a really long look before getting a wheelchair and helping tim drag himout of his current tank LOL i think there would be lots of cursing and sniping from both sides .
ill wrap this up but now im thinking abt mer courtship stuff--idk if ive ever talked about that here? its kinda silly LOL

Howdy! I was wondering if I could get your thoughts on a Page of Rage?
Of course! First, my formatted analysis:
A Page of Rage is among those who use faith in possibility. They are motivated by others to utilize defiance. (x) The Page of Rage struggles to see what they’re good at and hates complacency. (x) They are the Believer Revolutionary, defined by confidence and defiance. (x) Their opposite is the Knight of Hope. Their inverse is the Thief of Hope. They share their personality with the Bard of Hope. The Page of Rage would quest on a planet similar to the Land of Earth and Rage, reigned over by Ares (God of War). They would rise to ascension on the wings of imps. (x)(x)(x)
Now, for a more in depth look at the classpect.
The concept of the Page class likely comes from King Arthur. Arthur was a pageboy, meant to spend his time serving a knight. He spent much of his life in this lowly position while slowly learning from Merlin, the wizard. Eventually, he becomes king of Britain and wields more influence and power than anyone else in the kingdom. The Page's journey is the same. They start their lives humble yet naively unaware of their actual shortcomings. Even when they realize what they lack, it will take them longer than any other class to grow into their true potential. When they do, they become one of the most potent and influential classes. The Page's story is that of a servant becoming a king.
The Rage aspect is defined by defiance, power, and will to fight. It is symbolized by anger, fire, and demons. An excellent example of the Rage aspect is the angel Lucifer. Lucifer is a symbol of evil and destruction, but he is also one of rebellion against what you do not believe in. He is skepticism and revolution. All of these concepts encompass the Rage aspect. While Rage does sound evil on the surface (especially since I used the Devil as an example), it is no more good or evil than any other aspect. Rage is necessary to survive: to fight to protect yourself while ensuring you are not tricked by your opponents. Rage is the one to remind you that sometimes war is necessary and the only option.
As for characters, the Page of Rage is a god tier that I do not have many examples of. The two I do have are Kieran from Dragon Age and Joker Jr. from Batman: The Animated Series. That being said, Joker Jr. is more of a placeholder example of the classpect, as I do not believe Tim Drake truly changed god tiers in the show. Instead, the concept of a child Joker (or Joker Robin) fits the Page of Rage well.
Kieran from Dragon Age is the son of Morrigan, a mysterious "witch of the wilds" and a companion in the first game in the series. She is the archetypal sexy, mysterious, and relatively evil witch. The game's final boss is the Archdemon, an undead dragon possessing the soul of an ancient false god. The hero would have to sacrifice themselves to kill the creature but is offered the option to lay with Morrigan and produce a child. If they do so, the child absorbs the god's soul instead, and the hero can survive. Kieran does not die from this, but his personality is affected. When the main character meets him in Dragon Age: Inquisition, the boy will respond to the character's race and class with cryptic comments indicating knowledge of the game's lore that he, and the player, should have no way of knowing. Kieran does not appear aware of how strange and unique his omniscience is, commenting on the world with well-meaning naivety. The only indication that he notices something is wrong comes from his confusion about others, such as why the elves would wear tattoos on their faces when he knows they are slave markings. However, he does not consider that they do not know this information.
Joker Jr. is the Batman Animated Series' version of the third Robin, Tim Drake. Because (Jason Todd) Robin's death was considered too dark for child viewers, the integral tragedy was swapped out for Tim Drake being abducted and tortured by the Joker. Robin was tortured for three weeks before Batman found him in order to be turned into "Joker Jr." It was Joker's intent for Joker Jr. to kill Batman himself. When Robin awoke and was set loose on Batman, he followed along happily. He acted as deranged as the Joker himself until the very end when he was called to make the shot. Joker Jr. then became distraught and aimed the gun at Joker instead, killing him. After killing the Joker, he cried and was comforted by Batgirl.
Not every individual with the same classpect will be the same person; they merely have similar destinies. Some examples of Page of Rage character types are: the bumbling henchman and the dark, powerful child. Both characters naively serve rebellion against the status quo: the henchman is doing what they're told by serving a villain, while the dark child does not understand that they are inherently in opposition to society by just being who they are. Both of these characters could become great leaders if they opened their eyes to the truths of the world. The henchman could rebel and become a dangerous villain (or hero) in their own right. The child could become a powerful magician or god-like being. In both cases, if they do succeed, it may take them most of their lives to get there.
The Maid of Rage has a similar struggle to the Page of Rage. They both must learn to be defiant for themselves instead of following what others command. This can be seen in Harley Quinn from Batman, who is very obviously similar to Joker Jr., as a henchwoman. The Page of Rage differs in that they do not start out serving anyone but their own lack of judgment. In the end, they learn to help others by their own terms, whereas the Maid discovers how to serve themselves.
The song Lullaby Bye by Dr. Steel is a good example of a Page of Rage's story. The song is about a robot boy programmed to sing on a street corner. One day he falls and breaks a crank on the top of his head. At this, he realizes he is alive for the first time and becomes furious at having been forced to perform. Because of this, he expresses his emotions through song and begins to sing once more.
Lastly, for a final look at my formatted analysis.
So the Page of Rage uses faith in possibility. This means they can use the firm convictions of themselves and others to suit an end. Specifically, they are inspired to action by others, either from being pushed by others into action or motivated by observing them. The action they take is wielding the defiance, strength, and “evil” of both themselves and others like a tool. If realized, the Page can use this talent with unequaled finesse. Unfortunately, they begin life with a misunderstanding about how powerful and defiant they really are. Either they will overestimate their own strength or underestimate it, with bad results all around. They will naively rail against naivety itself, bludgeoning both themselves and others. The Page of Rage possesses the confidence and defiance of the believer revolutionary, zealous to say the least. Their opposite is the Knight of Hope (Sir Lancelot), not held back by anyone but themselves and bravely holding onto their belief in the status quo, charging forwards against evil.
As with all classpects, the Page of Rage starts out as their inverse, in this case, the Thief of Hope. The Page acts as the Thief when in the process of taking others to task for their complacency. Overconfident in Rage, they instead take happiness from others as a show of their hatred of mainstream convictions. In doing so, they appear as desperate to hold onto a belief system (Hope) as the people they are trying to change. They are convinced that the way to be defiant is to take away the beliefs and happiness of others, even commandeering the system itself if need be (like a cult leader).
So the Page will go from someone unaware that they are rebelling at all to a person wrestling agency away from others in their desperation to be counter-culture. Who do they end up as? If, after a long chunk of time, they learn to think objectively, they can become an inspirational revolutionary or leader of armies. The Page of Rage must look to others to determine what system must be broken down. By stepping back and observing the world, they can come back into the fight strong, the one fight they know matters.
Then they will be the King Arthur of change, of fighting back. The world they influence will be violent, but hopefully, that violence will be for the better. The Page of Rage will know how to lead the battles that matter, just like the robot boy who kept singing, not because he had to, but because now he had a purpose.
The Page of Rage shares their personality with the Bard of Hope as both classpects are concerned with confidence/assurance and outrage/defiance. The Page of Rage stubbornly believes in revolution and fighting back (in an "I hate you, Mom!" sort of way), while the Bard of Hope fights back with what they believe ("I'm the only right one here!")
Their dynamic is
Page of Rage: "I can be happy by tearing things down."
Bard of Hope: "I don't care if you've been torn down because I am happy."
Now, the planet ideas. Pages have something regarding earth (as in dirt) on their planet, such as pebbles, mud, or clay. Rage players will have anything pertaining to the Rage aspect, like battlefields or hellfire. As with all planets, these characteristics can align in some way with the player's personality.
An example of a Page of Rage's planet might be: the Land of Stones and Giants (based on the story of David & Goliath from the Bible). David was the underdog when he faced off against the giant, but he stood up for himself against Goliath by utilizing his will to fight and defiance. He managed to take down the bully with a single stone from his slingshot, avoiding fighting him in physical combat. The fact that even a small stone can take down a powerful enemy is a very Page of Rage sentiment.
Thank you for the ask and I hope my analysis helps!
