✨ i started a writing advice newsletter (substack crew assemble)
Tumblr media
hi. hello. writer friends, mutuals, lurkers, and people who’ve reblogged a post at 2am with “me fr” in the tags,
i started a Substack newsletter ✨ and you should totally subscribe to it.
💌 The Write Edvice Newsletter ← click that, it’s free and friendly and it will make your WIP feel seen
what it is:
a cozy longform writing advice zone where i go full “write tutor bestie who won’t let you write another flat scene ever again” mode.
if you like:
deep dives on story structure, character arcs, and pacing
very specific scene writing advice (like “here’s how to fix a bad chapter opening” specific)
craft posts that are low on fluff and high on examples
and occasional yelling about villain motives and prose rhythm
then you will probably like this newsletter.
why i made it:
tumblr is great (we love it here), but sometimes i wanna write longer, slower, nerdier stuff without the formatting eating itself or the reblog cycle burying it.
the newsletter lets me:
answer your writing questions in more depth
post walkthroughs and breakdowns that are too long for tumblr
give bonus resources + scene-level prompts
make a cool little archive of craft advice that doesn’t disappear into the void
what you get:
a new issue every other week (ish)
first dibs on ask replies & topic votes
sneak peeks of upcoming resources
me, yelling gently, in your inbox
if you vibe with:
✍️ character psychology ✍️ fixing plot holes ✍️ making your prose not suck ✍️ writing even when you’re tired and mad at your WIP
then i’d love to see you over there.
🔗 Subscribe here - it’s free, chill, and packed with actual writing help, not just vibes.
let’s be newsletter mutuals 💌
-Rin T.

If we dumped all the boys into the Backrooms, who would survive best?
I need to know this for reasons :)
(Reasons being the thought randomly came to me and now I can't get it out)
Yay!! Thank you for this scenario, Leah!! Have some tea for your stay! 🫖✨
All the boys? Is there a milkshake in the backrooms I’m unaware of? 🤔✨
So, going off of all my OCs dumped in the backrooms: Peter, Benjamin, Davey, Ali, Noah, Tenshi , Itazura, Tyr , Gustav, Nathan, X, Callum, and Oliver…
The humans would be the first to go. (That includes Peter as well. Sorry, captain.)
Tenshi is canonically the most powerful of all my OCs, but his big heart may lead him to self-sacrifice.
Everyone except one OC is mortal, and I believe the immortal one will survive the longest on principle: Ali. Being a powerful genie, he’d be able to conjure just about anything as long as he could see it in his mind’s eye. The backrooms don’t scare him; he’s spent over two thousand years in solitary confinement battling his own demons, so what’s a few more? 🧞‍♂️✨
Thank you for this ask!! 💛✨

The defeated and bloodied king was chained to kneel in front of his enemy and he says weakly: "Is my wife still alive?" His enemy nodded. "You fools," he said smirking, and the king starts laughing as the sounds of explosions getting closer shake the room.

fanfic writing culture isn’t “oh dang! I wanted to write about this prompt with this character but someone else already wrote it, so now I can’t”.
fanfic writing culture is always “two cakes is better than one. the more the merrier. there can ever be enough fics of this character with this prompt!”

10 Non-Lethal Injuries to Add Pain to Your Writing
New Part: 10 Lethal Injury Ideas
If you need a simple way to make your characters feel pain, here are some ideas:
1. Sprained Ankle
A common injury that can severely limit mobility. This is useful because your characters will have to experience a mild struggle and adapt their plans to their new lack of mobiliy. Perfect to add tension to a chase scene.
2. Rib Contusion
A painful bruise on the ribs can make breathing difficult, helping you sneak in those ragged wheezes during a fight scene. Could also be used for something sport-related! It's impactful enough to leave a lingering pain but not enough to hinder their overall movement.
3. Concussions
This common brain injury can lead to confusion, dizziness, and mood swings, affecting a character’s judgment heavily. It can also cause mild amnesia.
I enjoy using concussions when you need another character to subtly take over the fight/scene, it's an easy way to switch POVs. You could also use it if you need a 'cute' recovery moment with A and B.
4. Fractured Finger
A broken finger can complicate tasks that require fine motor skills. This would be perfect for characters like artists, writers, etc. Or, a fighter who brushes it off as nothing till they try to throw a punch and are hit with pain.
5. Road Rash
Road rash is an abrasion caused by friction. Aka scraping skin. The raw, painful sting resulting from a fall can be a quick but effective way to add pain to your writing. Tip: it's great if you need a mild injury for a child.
6. Shoulder Dislocation
This injury can be excruciating and often leads to an inability to use one arm, forcing characters to confront their limitations while adding urgency to their situation. Good for torture scenes.
7. Deep Laceration
A deep laceration is a cut that requires stitches. As someone who got stitches as a kid, they really aren't that bad! A 2-3 inch wound (in length) provides just enough pain and blood to add that dramatic flair to your writing while not severely deterring your character.
This is also a great wound to look back on since it often scars. Note: the deeper and wider the cut the worse your character's condition. Don't give them a 5 inch deep gash and call that mild.
8. Burns
Whether from fire, chemicals, or hot surfaces, burns can cause intense suffering and lingering trauma. Like the previous injury, the lasting physical and emotional trauma of a burn is a great wound for characters to look back on.
If you want to explore writing burns, read here.
9. Pulled Muscle
This can create ongoing pain and restrict movement, offering a window to force your character to lean on another. Note: I personally use muscle related injuries when I want to focus more on the pain and sprains to focus on a lack of mobility.
10. Tendonitis
Inflammation of a tendon can cause chronic pain and limit a character's ability to perform tasks they usually take for granted. When exploring tendonitis make sure you research well as this can easily turn into a more severe injury.
This is a quick, brief list of ideas to provide writers inspiration. Since it is a shorter blog, I have not covered the injuries in detail. This is inspiration, not a thorough guide. Happy writing! :)

Honestly, I love it when characters relapse. When someone who’s gotten over their anger issues falls into a situation so out of their depth they fall back on their old habits. When someone who’s learned to open up becomes a recluse again in order to cope with something outside their control.
There’s just something so horrible, so toxic, about watching a character grow and then slip back into their old selves in order to cope, bc you know they still care, that they’re the same inside, but watching them hurt so hard they don’t know what else to do brings a sense of catharsis.
