All seven of the deadly sins embodied me. Repenting, and praying, maybe I could be free. But sometimes god doesn’t have faith in me”

Can @neil-gaiman make a young author like me feel better about typos on my already published back cover…
👉🏻👈🏻😖💛
The book itself only has 8 mistakes apparently in 326 pages…
P.S. thanks for writing Good Omens because without it I’d have never met my Fiancé! The Crowley to my Aziraphale…Congrats on season 3!!
Edit because only two people have bought my book

What you HAVE TO know about your characters
Name:
Appearence:
Age:
Role:
Why the have that role, not based on the plot but based on the characters core beliefs and how that affects the plot:
Beliefs:
Motivations:
Who they were raised to be vs who they are/are becoming:
Plans for the future:
How they feel about themselves and how it affects their behavior:
Why do they even matter to the story:

Bruce, sweating as he climbs an arduous mountain on his I'm-finding-myself world trip: 🥵
That dorky guy in the glasses and flannel who somehow manages to get everywhere before him: Um. Hi?
Bruce: *kicks rock and breaks foot*
Clark, who flew to the top of this mountain for the view like the lazy slut he is: Um. I'm sorry? You know that's broken, right? Should I - carry you?

Why are some writers so afraid to make up their own metaphors? I just saw a quote by George Orwell in which he said, “Never use a metaphor, simile, or other figure of speech which you are used to seeing in print,” and honestly? THAT IS SO REAL!!
Your metaphors should feel like they belong to your story, your characters, your world. If your protagonist is a computer nerd, why would they be boring and describe something as “light as a feather” when they could say it’s uhm idk… “as light as a wireless mouse” or “as easy to carry as a USB stick.” I’m not a computer nerd lol but I hope you get the point: your metaphors should feel personal to your characters and story, they should reflect how they think, what they care about, and the world they live in.
If they’re an athlete, they’re likely going to compare things to their sport or game strategies, etc. They won’t describe their exhaustion as “feeling like a ton of bricks”— they could say it “hits like the last mile of a marathon” or something. If they work at a flower shop they would compare smells and colours to flowers and plants right?
Not only does making up your own personal metaphors and similes help you avoid clichès, it also adds so much depth to your characters and the quality of your writing. It’s also a great way to inject humour into your narrative btw, literally so many benefits…
So yeah. Make up your own metaphors. Seriously!

Not to be rude but I don't understand why MC has to be so untouchable. They're uber rich, talented, popular, smart, and generally excels in everything. There isn't anything negative about them aside from maybe their ambition but it's only in some cases.
Why can't they somehow just seem like a loser in some scenarios? I don't believe someone can be that perfect without some flaws. I like the concept but the MC is too much for me
this is like the seventh ask i’ve gotten in the span of 4 months with the same fucking complaints. i just don’t understand where y’all find the audacity to criticize an author when it’s clear you haven’t bothered to look too deep into the story or the character at all.
MC is susceptible to burning out like every other person.
there are a lot of things they do not excel at.
they can be a complete loser when it comes to relationships and magic.
there’s something fundamentally wrong with them.
their emotions can become very unstable at times.
they literally have a fatal flaw 💀
many of the ROs generally are on par with MC on a lot of things.
but even if these were not the case, there are plenty of other stories where you can play as a loser, wet cat MC with zero talents who everyone hates and despises. don’t come here and tell me shit because i didn’t write this story to cater to your dumb ass.
don’t like it? don’t read it.

Do you enjoy ANIME?
What about COMING OF AGE ADVENTURE STORIES?
Well, I’m Lizzy and the first book in my series A Tale of Dreams and Demons might be up your alley. It tells the story of 15 year old Melosia, who dreams of escaping her normal boring life to go on the kind of adventures you see in stories. She gets her wish to live the fantasy of getting transported to another world but will she learn how adventures are not as glamorous as stories depict?
This book is a dedication to my love of anime and the books of my youth.  I hope that you will enjoy this adventure.
Check out my Debut novel A Tale of Dreams and Demons by Elizabeth Hernandez on Amazon and Barnes and Noble, July 11th. Let the adventures begin where nothing bad could possibly happen….
And a big thanks to inktho on tumblr/ @_inktho on twitter for the beautiful cover and illustrations throughout!

HOW TO FIND A PLOT WHEN ALL YOU HAVE IS CHARACTERS AND A SETTING (and has built in character development!)
I'm looking at you oc community
YAY you have a world. Great! Now write down what happens on a normally- what are your character's daily routine. And my favorite part, why is that their routine. What makes them choose that? Are they constantly doing new thing cause they're afraid to be by themselves? Are they constantly by themselves because they are afraid of rejection? What would take this comfort zone and burn it to the ground. Create a list of ideas and pick your favorite.
Create a list of each character's goals and motivation, I'll be making a post on how to find that soon btw. Can the plot be based of these goals?
Pick THE MOST IMPORTANT goals.
Find the characters with different goals. YAY conflict!
You have to know your characters fears for this part. Not like heights like no one will ever love me if I'm not always perfect.
How are they dissatisfied with life:
What do they think will bring them happiness:
What could they do to be happy:
How has their fear stopped them from taking this action:
How do they think they can get their goal without doing the thing that makes them afraid:
6. Then use the situation in point 1 to create the environment that kick starts it. Use the goals and motivations to show why they do actions and boom!
Happy writing!
