Consequences
When he felt compelled to take over as Robin in order to save Batman from himself, Tim didn't have high expectations; he didn't expect to be adopted by Bruce, he didn't expect to acknowledge the fact that his parents were abusive by leaving him alone for months, he didn't expect anyone to care if he ate or not, and in general he didn't expect to gain a family.
And for a while he thought that everything would get better: he gained brothers, he had a caring father, he had no financial problems or had gotten sick; And yes, maybe Robin's patrols were harsh at first, maybe Bruce's words when he was angry reached his heart and hurt him deeply, but he was fine.
Until he wasn't, at some point he felt more abandoned than ever even though he was surrounded by his family. When he was talking to his boyfriend, he realized that everyone took him into account but no one really appreciated what he did.
At first he didn't understand why Danny looked at him concerned and kept asking if he was okay while he told him an anecdote from his life as a vigilante; they had known each other for a while (Alfred had noticed, the others hadn't), they started talking, dating in coffee shops and even revealed the fact of being vigilantes after a few months on a relationship, that's when they started sharing anecdotes with each other.
Danny mentioned that he was being a hypocrite for caring so much about his stories when his were just as bad. Tim didn't get it until he started to see things from another perspective.
He never realized how much it hurted how Bruce had never thanked him for helping when he was lost in time, or how Dick avoided talking about his Robin time by concentrating on Damian, he thought he could understand but that didn't make it any better, Jason's nickname was beginning to make sense.
He didn't realize how broken he felt when Jason tried to kill him and blamed him; He was his childhood hero, Tim loved Robin because Jason put him in the stars, however, no matter how many times he explained to his brother that the only reason he had taken the suit was because he had no choice, and that he felt forced to blackmail Batman to be his Robin before Bruce became what he hated most. Jason still didn't care, still called him Replacement over and over again, blaming.
Or Damian who kept trying to kill him, refusing to acknowledge him, and when he defended himself he ended up getting reprimanded. Not even Bruce thanked him for all the work he did in taking over the company as CEO. His entire family went on with their lives without repercussions.
Maybe he was being naive as he refused Danny's requests to run away from home and stay with him, at least for a few days so they would miss him. He felt like a broken record repeating the phrase "it's okay, they're trying, they can change", the look on his boyfriend's face told him he wasn't doing a good job on believing his own words.
The mansion made him feel small at times, ignored; it was fortunate that Alfred was actually paying attention to him and offering a cup of hot chocolate at such moments.
At some point he couldn't take it anymore, Jason and Damian's comments had gone too far, Bruce's lack of response along with Dick's laughter commenting that they weren't saying it in a bad way only made him angry, so he left the cave and called to Danny, he told him it was time to go.
He said goodbye to Alfred, Cass, Duke and Steph who had generally not contributed to his decision, and he regretted that he couldn't stay longer to get to know them better, but the damage had been building up for a long time.
He wrote a letter detailing his reasons to the rest of the family, leaving along some clues to let them know that he had left of his own free will and they wouldn't be able to find him even if they wanted to, he sighed as his anger turned to resignation.
"Are you ready?" Danny questioned, taking his hand gently as they walked out of the mansion.
"Ready as I'll ever be"
That's how Timothy Jackson Drake said goodbye to his home dimension and headed to the infinite realms, of course he was going to sneak in a couple of times to help his friends but never when his family is around. He hadn't expected the life in the palace or the marriage proposal that came years later, but although the place was gigantic, Tim felt good in it, comfortable, appreciated.
Time in the Realms passed quite quickly, unlike his original dimension, so years for him were a couple of months for his family.
He found it ironic that Danny was summoned as the Ghost King by Ra, who had the nerve to order the "creature" to give him the secrets of the Lazarus pits, offering the Batclan as sacrifices. Tim looked at the time portal connected to his home dimension (That Clockwork had given him to watch his family and friends, even if he was upset he was not going to let them die) wondering if he should interfere.
It was decided when Danny called Fright Knight to deal with the nuisance that was Ra, and he accompanied him as a royal adviser (regardless of his second title as ruler, he actually liked being a part of strategizing better and Danny was happy to give in to his wishes).
With a weary sigh he crossed the portal and began to recite Ra's crimes, indicating how he had damaged the balance between life and death since he corrupted the ectoplasm on the Lazarus pits to extend his life at the same time that Frighty stopped the man.
No one in the room bothered to pay attention to the stupefied bats who were watching the missing member of his family, but years older, that apparently was the Ghost King royal adviser. They tried to call him but Tim just gave them an annoyed look before continuing with his work.
By the time Fright Knight took Ra completely chained through the portal, they finally saw the ghost king move, he started kissing Tim's face repeatedly, which had turned his frown into laughter.
The moment they finally processed the scene they both disappeared, and well, weren't those the consequences of their own actions?

Thanks to @unadulteratedsoulsweets for the general idea, I enjoyed writing this! Even if it ended up a little bigger than I expected

Days turned into weeks, and soon it was the middle of July, and still even then, his touch lingered on your lips. It was as soft as you'd remembered. He still tasted like mountain dew and toothpaste, only now with the added taste of cigarettes.
It made your chest lurch at the memory.
Are you sure?
Are you sure?
Are you sure?
Those words echoed in your mind late at night, the way his eyes widened, red-rimmed from being told the news. The feel of his hands on yours, both of you centimetres from crossing the line of no return.
-flashback to sophomore year-
You'd just been told you were moving across the country, and your heart currently resided in your feet. You were 16 but you were convinced your life was over. Everyone you knew, everyone you loved, was here. Your home was Hawkins, and despite your wishes to leave, you never wanted to leave like this.
You wanted to leave with your best friend, the guy you'd been crushing on since you met him. Eddie Munson, your guy, is the only person who saw you for you. Who knew you better than you knw yourself. And now you were expected to leave him behind with the promise that you'd fucking write every week.
And that's how you ended up sitting on his bed and staring at his posters, your hands wringing together in your lap. He was silent on the other side of the room, processing your words..
"So this is it." You could tell he was doing his best to maintain composure and to be strong for you, which was fruitless because you were already a mess. You just needed your best friend to hold you and hug you and tell you it would be okay.
"I guess that deal we made in freshman year is null and void now." You tried to lighten the mood, but it was near impossible, because your predicament hung like a heavy cloud in the room, threatening to open and rain down on everyone beneath it.
It took him a while to remember the deal, or at least he let on that it took him a while. The truth was that it was all he ever thought about. He plagued him late at night, and whenever he saw you smile. Hell, it was on a loop in his mind whenever he saw you in general, he just didn't think it was something you'd remembered making.
It had been your first high school party, Eddie had snuck you both in the spring of your freshman year, and you'd gotten quite drunk. Jason Carver had tried to kiss you but your fist had given him the message, and so he stopped. Besides that, the party was uneventful. Eddie stayed sober to make sure you'd get home okay, but he told you it was because he didn't like any of the alcohol there.
"Promise me we'll be each other's firsts, okay?" You had murmured out, stumbling into his arms. He knew you were gonna be killed if you went home this way, he wasn't blind to your bruises.
"Firsts? First what?" He didn't register it until moments later, too focused on how pretty you looked in the moonlight. Like something, someone, from a fairy tale. You were gorgeous, effortlessly so. He didn't know why you didn't see it. "Oh... sure, I mean it's not like I'm gonna find anyone else."
You continued to mumble as he led you back to the trailer park. He so badly wanted to kiss you at this moment, the stars the only witnesses, but he wasn't a creep, and he wasn't going to try something if he felt you wouldn't remember or worse, didn't want it.
Now fast forward a year later, and he's sitting, staring at you like you'd just told him you knew about his best-kept secret. "You... You remember? You were so drunk, I thought-"
"No matter how much I drank that night, I don't think I'd ever forget asking you to... well you know." You didn't want to carry on saying it, afraid that if you do he'll laugh, tell you that you're crazy or stupid. You were so caught up in feeling this way, in being in your own head, that you didn't realise he'd moved closer to you until suddenly his hands were on yours, his body between your knees.
"What... What if it wasn't null and void. What if we still did it? Only if you want to of course..." He wanted to tell her how beautiful you were. You'd known each other since they were kids, and in his eyes, you'd only gotten more beautiful with each passing second. Every moment with you was a moment he used to study the colours in your eyes, counting the small freckles on your arms. He knew you better than you knew yourself. He knew what you were capable of, of all your potential.
He'd always known you were more than Hawkins, more than the parents that would drag you down and squash your dreams in a heartbeat. He'd always known that if your heart ever broke, he'd replace it with his own in a second. He'd always known it was yours, ever since he'd seen you that first time.
You didn't know what to say. Your eyes were trained on his, and his eyes burned with something... unrecognisable. Something that made you feel warm. All it took was a nod of your head, and slowly he moved you onto the bed, ridding you both of your clothes.
His lips ghosted over your own, taking your breath in heavy pants, his arms steady by your head
And then he spoke those words. The ones that haunted you still. Those three small words would run through your mind late at night.
"Are you sure?"
"Are you sure?"
"Are you sure?"
You sometimes wondered what your life would be like if you changed your mind. If you told him you weren't sure. But late at night, when your mind won't turn off, all you can picture is his alabaster skin, his hands on you, holding you, cradling you, caring for you. The feel of his lips on yours. He tasted the same, it almost made you mad. Your skin still tingled from where he touched you, just like it had before. It almost made you scream.
Almost.
All these things, the small details that should irritate you, instead warmed you. Knowing he had changed in appearance only, something about that made you feel... some way as you stocked the shelves at work. But you couldn't, he was dating that overly preppy girl who would come around all the time. He was taken, spoken for, and in love with a girl who looked nothing like you. Pushing your thoughts and feelings aside, you gathered up your things as your shift ended.
You were due to collect your car from the garage of Waynes' friend. You hadn't spoken with him, but Wayne promised he was a good guy, best in Hawkins. And you trusted Wayne. He'd told you it was just a ten-minute walk from your job, which you were grateful for. As much as you'd come to like Simon, there were only so many times you could listen to him complain about the kids who delayed him in the mornings.
Stepping off the bus, you let out a long sigh, tired from the long day. All you were looking forward to was getting home so you could curl up on the couch with Willow, watching a film you let her pick out from Family Video. The guy from behind the counter was familiar, but you just couldn't place him.
Trudging along the street, feet barely lifting off the ground, you were sure Wayne had gotten it wrong and in fact, the garage was ten miles, not ten minutes.
As you walked you made a mental note of what you had to do once you got your car back. Laundry was top of the list, the downside of getting a trailer so soon and on such short notice is that you had no washer or dryer, leaving you to rely solely on the laundromat in town.
Trekking into town had been a nuisance, especially lugging the clothes to and from the laundromat. You were thinking of investing in a washboard and going all 1800s, but you knew that you wouldn't be able to keep up with the mountain of washing, or the pain it would cause your arms. Thankfully Wayne said you could start using his after mentioning that idea to him, so you didn't have to worry about it anymore after this load.
The garage was a rusty building, looking like it would collapse with one good gust of wind. But Wayne said that the guy working on your car was the best, although when you stepped inside you began questioning his judgement for the first time in your life.
Your car sat in the middle of the room, with no mechanic in sight. Loud banging could be heard, drilling and hammering, metal clanking off metal echoed and bounced around the room. You looked around and felt slightly exposed, worried the guy servicing the car would be a creep.
Due to the heat, you had opted for an off-the-shoulders top crop top and shorts, and if Greg's comments were anything to go by, you were showing a lot of skin.
"I'm uh... I'm here to pick up my car?" Your voice was meek, tiny and quiet as you attempted to call out, although thankfully someone heard you because you could hear footsteps coming towards you.
"Yeah, no problem, which one is i- Oh, it's you." He stood there, white muscle shirt clinging to his body and suddenly you forgot how to breathe. You weren't sure how you hadn't noticed it before, but despite his slender frame, he was actually pretty buff. Combined with sweat from working in the heat all day, every crease and dip and curve became all that more defined. You felt your mouth go dry as your core goes wet.
What were you supposed to do, he was standing there looking like someone out of a Playgirl magazine. a sweaty oily rag tossed over his shoulder and a grease smudge on his cheek.
His dark hair was a mess of loose curls, only made worse by his hand running through them, fussing with it and pushing it back. The majority of it was tied back in a bun, but there were a few stray pieces that framed his face, now sticking to it.
You stared at him for a few seconds without speaking, your mind blank. You were at a loss for words, which was very rare when it came to him. Most of the time you were cursing him from a height, or calling him every name under the sun before Willow even woke up in the morning. Just as you expected though, it didn't take long for you to find it again.
"Wait, you're looking after my car?" You were slightly annoyed, you had hoped to never run into him again if possible. You were also annoyed with Wayne, knowing without a doubt he had set this up. Had Eddie asked him too? Had Eddie done something to your car so you'd have to go to him? Okay, that may have been a stretch, but it couldn't be ruled out.
He looked at the ground, shuffling his shoes on the concrete and twisting his rings. You could feel his smirk before you could see it. That same damn smirk that used to make you weak in the knees. Turns out that some things never change. He crossed his arms over his chest, turning his head up to look at you like he was some kind of winner in this situation. Like he knew something you didn't. "This is the car I was assigned, why, is that a problem?" He looked down at your shoes and back up at you, eyes raking across your body and taking slightly longer to stare at your chest. Back in Nevada, you would have slapped a boy for doing that, but with Eddie, you felt... alright about it? You mimicked his stance, arms crossed under your chest, unknowingly pushing them up more.
"Shouldn't be, as long as you actually work on it and don't, you know, throw yourself at it with no warning." You glared daggers into him, letting him know exactly what you thought of his actions a few weeks ago. You would never admit you liked it. No, you would go to the grave with that secret.
You watched as his face fell, his hand coming up to rub the back of his neck as he looked... almost ashamed. Strangely, it made your heart sink. Did he regret it? Did he hate it? Did he hate that it was you? Maybe he thought it was going to feel different, maybe it wasn't the same for him as it was for you.
You couldn't take this anymore, you could feel tears brimming your eyes for some stupid reason and just needed to leave. You shouldn't care, he clearly didn't. "Look, just tell me how much I owe you and I'll be on my way." You didn't know why you were upset, you had filled your quota of tears over him in the months that followed after your last letter.
The letter where you told him to call you. That you had something you needed to tell him and that it didn't feel right to put it in a letter.
The letter he never responded to. The letter he never heeded. The letter that was the last time you spoke to him. You were terrified, going through a truly horrific time in your life and needing the man you loved, only for him to blank you.
"You, you don't owe me anything. It's um... it's on the house." He looked down at you with soft eyes. It hurt, the way he looked at you like an injured dove, pitying you.
"No, no I'm not taking your handouts, I'm paying for the service." You fumbled for your wallet in your bookbag, searching for it and getting irritated when you couldn't find it.
"Hey no, look I'm ser-" He began to try and get you to stop, trying to get your hands from your bag.
"So am I Eddie, I'm not going to be in debt to you." You pulled out the wallet finally, pushing a few dollar bills into his chest.
"Take the money, Eddie." You slammed it into his chest again and again, positively seething at his refusal. "I'm serious take the-"
He'd had enough. Clearly, words weren't getting through to you so he did the only thing he could think of. Grabbing your hands as they connected to his chest, he held your wrists, pinning you to a wall with the hands above your head, the cash falling from your fingers.
"Jesus Christ, do you ever shut up.'' His voice was dark, his forehead creased and his brows drawn together. He looked mad, annoyed almost, but not in a way you'd seen before. And you'd seen Eddie mad before.
You wrestled against his hold, not as hard as you could have. Secretly you didn't want to leave, you didn't want him to let go.
"Nice to see you're still as feisty as ever. At least that hasn't changed." He leaned in, speaking so close to you that his breath fanned your face. "God, I want to kiss you so bad right now." His eyes were fixed on your now trembling lips.
You don't know what came over you, you felt your eyes widen, breath catching in your throat, and suddenly... you got a hand free.
You should have pushed him, you should have stood your ground. But you didn't. Instead, you grabbed the back of his neck, pulling his lips to yours in a heated moment of passion.
A surprised noise came from him, his hands dropping your own before recognition overcame him, and he was back in the moment, drowning in you. God what a way to die. But before he moved in further, he pulled back away and looked at you, the three words hanging in the air.
Are you sure?
Your delicate fingers latched into his hair before you had a chance to register it all, a hunger burning inside of you that had lay dormant for four years. A hunger that was only satiated by his lips on yours, his tongue exploring your mouth as a soft moan left you.
"You taste better than before, how the fuck do you taste better than before?" He spoke with an almost disbelief. You weren't sure what he meant, but then again you kind of did. Eddie used to taste like toothpaste and the knockoff cola Wayne would buy from the dollar store, but now... now he tasted of weed and cigarettes. The mint and cola were still there, buried in the back, but overall it was all him, it was all. Undeniably, unbelievably him.
He hummed against your lips, swiping his tongue along your lower one. "Mm, is that chapstick? Tastes nice." He swiftly devoured you again, and before you knew it, you're hands were on his waist, tugging his white shirt out of his jeans.
"Someone's hasty, at least buy a guy dinner first." He spoke mockingly, teasingly, as his lips devoured your own.
"Now who's the one who can't shut up?" As you said that, you felt his hand sneak up to your throat, holding you back to the wall in a show of desperation, eyes boring into yours. He didn't say a word, just letting you sink into the sticky pools of his eyes, allowing you to get stuck forever.
"You better watch that fucking mouth of yours." His voice held a mocking seriousness but was dark enough to make you inhale sharply.
In this moment, right now, you weren't in a mechanics shop, hell you weren't even in Hawkins. You were somewhere else entirely, some universe where nothing had ever happened. A world where your needy kisses, your flustered movements along his body held no deeper meaning.
Dipping his head, he kissed along a piece of your neck that makes your knees buckle beneath you. His hands found your elbows, holding you up and caging you in. You could feel his teeth grazing your skin, soft sounds spilling from you, your voice full of eagerness. You were a mess, a puddle in his hands.
You couldn't take it anymore. Once you found your feet, you pulled him off of you, a look of shock and worry appearing on his face. That was quickly wiped off when you pushed him back against your car, his hands splayed behind him on the door as you dropped to your knees.
You didn't know why you hadn't stopped yet, you were like a woman possessed. You knew you shouldn't do this, that this time of your life was meant to stay in the past, and you shouldn't fall back into old routines of pining for him. And yet all you wanted was to feel him. Feel his pulsing skin in your hands, feel each tremor and twitch and curve of his body against yours.
You looked up at him with serious yet comforting eyes. "Do you want this?" All he had to do was say the word, and she'd get up and walk away.
God she really didn't want him to say the word.
"Wha- what are you talking abou-" You cut him off as you put your hand on his denim-clad thigh. You were nervous. You'd never been with anyone apart from him. Things had gotten in the way. You knew he'd been with others, hell you saw girls leave his trailer just two days ago, and you had to admit it hurt like hell to see them.
"Do. You. Want. This." You spoke matter of factly, eyes wide and stern. Your heart felt like it was beating 100 miles a minute, your palms sweaty and your stomach in knots. You wanted this so bad, but you didn't know what it would mean if you went through with it. You pushed that thought to the back of your mind, your eagerness to feel him winning you over.
"Ye-Yes... I want this... I want you..." He spoke quietly, under his breath so you wouldn't hear the last part. "I've wanted you."
You nodded your head, looking back at his jeans where you saw the fabric strain a little. Hooking your fingers into his belt loops, you popped the button before pulling them down, his boxers following suit. Before you had a chance to react, his large leaking cock made a soft thump against his stomach.
Big didn't begin to describe it. Sure you'd felt it last time, but you never really had a chance to see it, nerves overcoming the both of you to the point that you just wanted it done and over with. Now, however, you wanted to savour it, you wanted to take your time.
He was thick too, he had to have grown because there was no way that it would have fit before. You must have been staring for a while because you heard a dark chuckle come from above you, his hand coming down to stroke your cheek, gripping your chin.
"What are you looking at?" His thumb brushed your bottom lip, fiddling with it. "Go on, you can tell me. Used to be able to tell me anything."
You took a breath, reaching a tentative hand out to touch his skin. "You... I'm looking at you..." You were truly speechless, unable to say much, your mouth watering at the sight of him. Gently, you went to touch his cock. You had his permission, you knew he wanted this just as much as you did, and soon that mind-fogging monster returned to cloud your judgement.
He groaned out as you wrapped your hand around him, his tip a fiery red as it presented to you. You stroked his shaft, soft and tenderly, eyes fixed on it. You got the same feeling as when you'd run the mile in high school, desperately thirsty.
Slowly, you slide just the tip of your tongue up the underside of his shaft, so light he can barely feel it - it's mostly just the sensation of your breath. You can sense his cock twitching, and feel it pulse in your hand.
Once you reach the head, you slide your lips over it ... just the head ... sucking it in, swirling your tongue around it. you can hear his breath catch as you suck a little harder.
"Shit babygirl, fuck..." His breath was heavy, chest heaving as he looked down at you, the way you rotated your hand along his shaft, suckling away at his head. "S'good, S'so good."
You were in a haze, you don't know what came over you, but you liked seeing him this way. Wanting you, needing you, calling you that name. You moaned as you heard it, feeling the vibrations in your hand as you took him in a bit more.
You tapped his cock on your tongue a few times, before placing sloppy wet kisses along the sides of him, moving lower and lower to his base. As you got to the bottom, you looked up at him with innocent, angelic, doe eyes, and sucked his balls into your mouth as you pumped his shaft.
"Holy shit... fuck yo-you're going to kill me, gonna drain my soul right out of my fucking balls baby." He was ashamed to admit how close he was. The feel of your warm wet mouth combined with the lingering taste of you was sending him into overdrive. "Fuck... come on, be a good girl and suck my cock for me."
You said nothing, you just tenderly licked his balls while warming them up with your mouth. You looked up and saw him, the way his body was tensing, the muscles in his hips contracting slightly as he bit his bottom lip, indicating to you that he was desperate not to cum yet.
You grinned, before removing your mouth from his balls and without a second's warning, you shoved his length deep into your mouth. You had returned to his cock, sucking like a slut in heat. You wished you could deepthroat him, but the burn in the back of your mouth where you'd managed to get him to was almost too much.
"Shit shit shit... fuck I love your mouth, never had one like it, baby." He was almost jealous. No scratch that, he was insanely jealous. There was no way you'd gotten this good at sucking someone off without any practice. No way. He pushed that image aside though, choosing to live in the moment.
As you bobbed your head, hollowing your cheeks around him, you almost dared him to cum, begged even. You wanted to know how it tasted, wanted to feel that sweet nectar running down your throat. Your eyes said as much, a pleasing look as tears stung the corners of them.
"S'good for me, oh...fuck...I'm gonna come soon, gonna cum down all in your mouth aren't I?"
Your pace and intensity grew with each movement up and down his shaft, making loud slurping and sucking sounds with your mouth, and tongue running along his underside. His cock was throbbing, you could feel it shaking in your mouth. You could see it now, the white-hot cum filling up your mouth, dribbling from your lips.
No sooner had you thought that than your cheeks were filled with him, the salty taste of him enveloping your senses. As you stared up at him, his eyes full of curiosity as if pondering your next move, you swallowed it all, licking your lips to clean up any that spilt.
You could tell he wasn't expecting that, because his mouth hung open a little as he caught his breath, chest heaving up and down as he tried to recover. "Jesus Christ, I didn't think you were gonna-" He was fastening up his jeans when he heard the click-clacking of a familiar pair of heels.
You however weren't familiar with the sound, yet you threw yourself together as fast as possible. The last thing you wanted was rumours spreading and having attention drawn to you. You grabbed a piece of blue tissue paper, cleaning off your spit just in time for whoever it was to come in.
"Hiya baby!"
Baby? Who the fuck was calling him baby? Turning around to face the person, your heart stopped. Standing before you was none other than Chrissy Cunningham. She'd been a star athlete when you were in middle school and from the looks of things that hadn't changed. You shot Eddie a look of confusion as she sauntered in, jacket draped over her arm.
"Oh... Chris, I didn't think you'd show up at my job." He wished she'd get the message that a casual fuck doesn't mean they're together. She was waltzing in here and ruining his chance of happiness.
"Oh course I'd show up here, can't miss seeing my hunky man in action." She hadn't even bothered to notice the other person in the room, she was always so used to having them try to talk to her first that when no one but Eddie spoke to her, she simply assumed they didn't exist. Although that was hard to do when those idiotic nonexistent people made noises like coughing. Or breathing.
You had cleared your throat, an apparent side effect of having given a taken man a blowjob, when the redheaded devil shot you daggers. Sweet, sickly daggers that pierced your skin with smiles. "Oh I'm sorry, I didn't see you there, and you are?"
It hurt almost. Almost. Chrissy had made your life hell when you were in school together, something you didn't like to talk about given that she was not one but two grades below you. You remember when you got your period, having bled through your white jeans, and she tauntingly called you Bloody Mary until you left.
That was the same day Eddie had given you his prised jacket to cover yourself till you got home. The same jacket that he never took back. The same jacket that you gave to Willow that's way too big for her.
And now here she was, calling Eddie her man and acting like she didn't remember you. It stung, it made you feel belittled, and irrelevant. You felt invalidated by her response.
"I'm just here to get my car." As you spoke, you could feel the once passionate bond between you and Eddie splinter like glass before cracking into fragments. He must have felt it too, because he turned to look at her, taking her by the elbow to guide her from the garage.
"Look Chrissy I really don't have time to feed into this right now, I have work to do." He spoke with her quietly, when they reached the entrance, and just when you thought it couldn't get any worse, she kissed him.
And he kissed her back.
You felt your gut sink to the floor as you watched them exchange goodbyes as she left. You don't know why you felt this way, you knew he was sleeping around, you just didn't know he was also in a committed relationship. One thing you did know for certain, was you weren't about to be another one of his side pieces for him to call up in the middle of the night looking for a piece of ass.
"Sorry about that, I wasn't expecting her to be here. She normally never stops by." He walked over to the table, grabbing your keys to hand them to you. "So, next time you really need to let me go do-"
"There won't be a next time." You snatched your keys, fiddling with the lock on your car. You could sense him, the way his body stiffened at your words.
"What do you mean? bunny she means nothing!" He held out his hands in defence but it was useless, you saw the way she looked at him, how in love she was. You even saw with your own two eyes. If it meant nothing, he wouldn't have kissed back.
"I mean, there won't be a next time because this was a mistake, and from now on I think we should only see each other when I'm getting Willow from Wayne in the evenings." Finally finding the key, you get the door open. You slide in and turn it on, the sweet sound of the engine filling your ears.
"And stop calling me Bunny, you lost that privilege when you never called me." Before he had a moment to register your words, you were gone, your body drained of all its energy, sucked dry from you as if he was some sort of... energy vampire or something. Overall you had to put this down as one of the worst days of your life.
And you still didn't get to do the laundry.

I honestly think that for Gotham criminals—regular criminals, drug lords, pedos, abusers, etc—getting caught by a vigilante with Bat in their name is the best case scenario at this point. Like, at least with Batman, Batwoman and Black Bat, you at least know you're making it out of it alive. If they've had a bad day, maybe you'll end up with a few broken bones or be sore for a month or two, but you'll recover.
If you're caught by Red Hood when he's had a bad day? Say goodbye to your life. If Red Robin hasn't made a singular smart comment during your fight and you want to get out of this without lifelong injuries, just turn yourself in right then and there. Robin chooses violence on the regular, you never know if he's going to be normal or downright vicious, and it's best not to take the risk without a reasonable vigilante there. If you're fighting an angry Nightwing and there's nobody to hold him back, it's best you start saying your prayers so maybe someone will show up and pull him off you at some point .
For Rogues, see, there's safe Rogues. If you're one of the Sirens and catch a Bird having a bad day, the worst they'll do is break down crying when faced with the prospect of having to fight you. Selina has been faced with countless of these breakdowns over the years and is the most equipped to handle them, Harley can distract and knows calming techniques, Ivy's easy to rant to. If you're Harvey, or Oswald, or even just a generally harmless Rogue, as long as you aren't doing something horrible, they'll leave you be. If you're literally any other Rogue—Bane, Black Mask, Riddler, Scarecrow, the Joker, etc, be thankful if you make it back to Arkham with more than eight bones intact.
ESPECIALLY if they let you have the first hit. That means they can claim provocation when they're standing over your barely-breathing body. They don't get into as much trouble with Batman if they can claim self defense.
Bruce, Cass, and Kate are the only ones with defined no-kill rules. The rest abide by it for peace sake for the most part, but there are always exceptions, and you don't want to be one of them.
OH GOSH YESSSSS
Let's be honest, - the rogues? Family friends. The Sirens are family PERIOD, and Harvey's their second honorary father after Clark, courtesy to Bruce. Also, kids tend to assimilate traits from people they look up to/love.
Robins and Rogues, tale as old as time.
When he's sad, Tim will flop himself over Bruce like a bunny. " Tell me a joke, Brucie," and of course a tired but fond sigh leaves Bruce's lips. " What do you call a vegan BBQ?"
" What?"
" A funeral."
Tim rolls his eyes like Harley, too.
Cass learns the sophisticated art of tantrums and pouting from Selina; Crossed arms, bratty eye roll, so much sass she's sizzling. Bruce has a Sigh jar, now.
Damian picks up an interest in plan and promptly transforms the manor in his very own botanical garden.
Alfred doesn't mind. The air is fresher, smells cleaner, they look beautiful againts their monochromatic palette, and everyone must take care of them. No exceptions.
A breath of relief unlocks Damian's stiff frame. " Persephone smiles upon us."
" Persephone? Where did you learn that, habibi?"
" Aunt Pamela said Greek Mythology belongs to lesbians, so I can't divulge."
Caught between " Jason hits Bruce with every single legal technicality Harvey thought him to evade getting benched" and " Jason accidentally calls Bruce pet names Spanish or Italian when he's distracted."
" My alma can yo- SHIT,"
" GUYS, HE DID IT AGAIN!"
Also, there's a difference between murder and killing; Bruce won't weep after monsters, that's for damn sure. Which gets him questioning gazes from the GCPD.
" Do you know how many people your buddies kill?"
" Do YOU?"

Re: that post on soft jason
I agree, Jason is in many cases a second Bruce. I think that's very important to understand for some stories: if Bruce is good to kids Jason HAS to be, and sadly, if Bruce is bad I'd argue Jason also has to be even if I want to say that a Jason who has an abusive Bruce would protect kids more. Jason is so frequently written as a mirror of Bruce (in my reading of him at least)
I think that Jason perceives himself as Bruce but doing more than him... but it don't think it's necessarily accurate.
Granted, Bruce has so many interpretations one could easily find an interpretation of Bruce that parallels Jason. If you want the edgy, miller-esque Bruce who's all into punishing criminals and views the city as a warzone, that fits very well with Jason. But the Bruce that Jason sees when he's a child is the Bruce that told him giving people medical attention was more important than going after the bad guys, and was very much not into that edgy "this city is a warzone" viewpoint.
So Winick's Jason easily does mesh with that interpretation, and I can see that as a way that authors may have drawn from it. It wouldn't line up with the Bruce that Jason experienced growing up, but Winick's Robin Jason also didn't line up with 1980s Robin Jason, so it could be a re-interpretation of both of them from that time. I don't really care for Winick's re-interpretation of Robin Jason tho.
Above is a very longwinded way of me saying that under certain writers, one can argue for Jason being a reflection of Bruce, but also that I think that version of Bruce sucks. it may have been winick's authorial intent, though.
however WRT kids: I do think that the if Bruce is good to kids, Jason is, and if Bruce isn't, Jason isn't. The portrayals don't seem super linked to me. Bruce has steadily gotten worse as the years go on, Jason's flip flopped. Like people all tell me that post new 52 Jason would never harm a child, but post new 52 Jason was fine beating Damian way past when would have ended the fight so.... if I take them at their word for it, post new 52 Jason is just inconsistent, I guess, rather than consistently worse. It doesn't really reflect Bruce at all IMO.
I also do want to say that even if one does go with a "Bruce abusive, Jason experiences abuse" interpretation (which I strongly disagree with for Jason's time as Robin), there's no guarantee it would transform him into someone who is protective of kids. He experienced having a poor petty criminal minion-ing for Two Face for a dad (who pre Lobdell retcons, was not abusive) and he became someone who kills criminals who minion for crime bosses. like even in Winick's Jason (or more of mostly with Winick's Jason, b/c that's where the focus here was). He threatens some drug dealers into compliance and following the rules he thinks drug dealers should follow, but when he has his organization set up he just kills the competition, even if they otherwise could be made to follow what he deems the acceptable rules.
Tumblr media
Batman 646
Like I feel pre new 52 Jason (don't want to make generalizations of post new 52 having not read as much) is very much a character who like. is very much in pain and determined to put that pain out on the world.
edit: Ommmmmmmmmmmmmg i missed that this was a response to soft jason post oops. as;ldgjal;sdgkj RIP me. But yeah, I do agree that if we get soft Jason we should get soft Bruce. uwu Jason and abusive Bruce just sucks.

I'm constantly baffled how many writers seem to overlook and mischaracterize Jason when he has arguably the most potential of all the Batkids, or at least the Robins! Like, so much can be built upon wrt his life as an impoverished youth and how that informs his perception of vigilantism, law enforcement, drug abuse, etc. Hell, his resurrection itself is something he had over the rest of the Batfamily for the longest time, before everyone else got a take a turn and it became so overused that Jason's own trauma became a footnote. Alas, most people at DC just treat him as the "Angsty Bad Boy™️" who doesn't play nice with the other kids. He's so wasted, Jason Todd deserves better.
I've always felt that if you're going to try and write a finite narrative out of Jason's story (as opposed to comics) then at some point he should quit vigilantism. His entire adult life has been solely about that and, as someone who for a long time was most famous for dying, he should get the opportunity to live, especially for himself. BUT, so long as he remains a vigilante, he offers a really interesting perspective on vigilantism that you don't really see anywhere else.
Jason, like some of the people I feel have the most reason to be in this life in Batman media (such as Bruce and Dick), has experience being a victim of criminal behavior, yes, but he also has the experience of being on the other side of the window. He knows the criminal element intimately, and from a young age. His father was a low-level criminal, it got him sent to jail and eventually murdered while in jail; Jason grew up in a low-income neighborhood that has been by and large overlooked by Gotham and that allows criminal behavior to breed there to the point where the name Crime Alley no longer refers to a singular event (the murders of the Waynes) but all the other issues there; Jason himself has committed criminal acts when weighing the option between obeying the law and ensuring his own survival. He has a different perspective on criminality and law enforcement and outside enforcement of legal codes than anyone in his life, because he's lived on both sides of the lines and they've both had profound effects on him and should shape how he views the world differently than other people he knows.
Jason's vigilantism, and honestly even how he deals with stuff during his crime lord era, should be motivated by at once knowing that issues don't pop up out of nowhere and that even criminals have interiority, but also a deeper understanding than most as to how the actions of criminals affects not just innocent bystanders but innocents in their own lives. It's a unique perspective that not only enriches Jason as a character but can also provide some pretty thought-provoking conversation about vigilantism and Batman's role in the world and even the concept of extra-legal justice we find in most superhero comics in general that DC could honestly use.
Like yeah, ok, I did find Stephen's monologue about his role as a doctor being that of a healer at the end of the General Strange arc in this year's Doctor Strange hokey, but the way a superhero's personal life informs their actions as a hero is an interesting concept that only gets shallow explorations most of the time, and Batman media could really use it in more depth given how shallow people's understanding of Batman is (Batman's a capitalist Batman's a fascist Batman beats up the mentally ill Batman victimizes the poor, dear God shut up).
And when it comes to Jason's death, it is pretty obvious that, when it comes to the Batfam, DC is trying to recapture that feeling that came with A Death in the Family every time they kill a character off, to try and tap into what made Jason's death such a big thing. But the problem is that they fundamentally do not understand why Jason's death was so big.
For one, and the most shallow reason for it, Jason's death wasn't just death. At the tail end of a series of difficult issues for him, like finding out his dad was murdered in prison and Bruce lied about it, to the debacle with Felipe Garzonas, to Bruce benching him as Robin (which, given that Dick being benched ended with him no longer being Robin and leaving Wayne Manor, it's reasonable to infer that a formerly homeless kid who experienced a significant amount of trauma due to that homelessness would start to worry that no Robin=no longer being able to live with Bruce and having to live on the streets again), Jason ends up trying to find his mother. And when he finds her, this adult woman, who he should be able to trust, if only because she's a grown woman and he's fifteen, deliberately leads him into a trap with someone he is deeply aware is dangerous, points a gun at his head, and tells him that what's about to happen is his fault while he tries and fails to fight his way out of what he knows is going to be a really bad set of minutes. Honestly, more people need to read ADitF, because the sequence of events is a lot more horrifying than pop culture remembers it. Jason is already beaten into the ground by Joker's henchmen before the Joker gets started on him (while Sheila stands back and watches, God) and by the time it's done, half of Joker's suit is colored red instead of purple to represent blood and everyone in that warehouse thinks that Jason is already dead. And then he gets blown up. Jason's death resonated so much not just because of the fact that it happened, and that Bruce felt upset about it, but also because what happened to him was horrifyingly brutal and to date remains one of the truly most sadistic things the Joker has ever done.
For two, Jason's death had an impact because it was meant to stick. Unlike Bruce getting lost in time or Damian getting stabbed, where it was pretty clear that the characters were not going to stay dead, and then by the time you get to Dick and whoever else has died recently, where the audience (and the characters) have no reason to believe that this will be permanent, Jason's death was meant to be the end of the story. Due to Starlin's hatred of Jason as a character (which is weird) and DC in general wanting to move away from kid sidekicks at the time, Jason was supposed to die and then stay dead forever; there's a reason why the saying was "nobody stays dead in comics except for Jason Todd, Bucky Barnes, and Uncle Ben", because he was meant to, you know, stay dead. It hits because the audience itself, along with Bruce and Dick and Alfred and Barbara and everyone else in Jason and Robin's life, thought that this was the last we would see of Jason Todd alive and that he would never come back ever again. It's also why his resurrection packs so much more of a punch than anyone else's either, both in universe and out of universe.
For three, Jason's death was greatly helped by the meta-narrative in a way that nobody else's has been. Because, the eighties was a period of a lot of change for DC, and especially for Batman due to the popularity of The Killing Joke (which wasn't even supposed to be canon, yet by the time Jason died Barbara was already confirmed in canon to be paralyzed and therefore have the events of that book take place) and especially The Dark Knight Returns. Which means that the eighties was when people started writing darker Batman stories, and they kept going from there, and the characterization got darker along with it (seriously, read something from the early eighties and then something from, like, the 2010s, the difference is insane) as Batman slowly just because a darker and more sullen character. And because that change coincided with Jason dying, and there was an initial attempt to push a sort of "Jason's murder is turning Bruce into a crazy person" message to really show audiences how badly Bruce was dealing with the situation, it creates this sort of in-universe progression where Jason's murder fundamentally altered Bruce in a way that has, so far, proven utterly irreversible.
It's not just that Bruce's son was murdered and that he's had to deal with the grief and trauma of that loss, it's that the grief and trauma of that lost basically completely shattered Bruce and he is never going to be able to put himself back together again. He is never going to return to who he was before Jason died even though the initial hurt has literally been reversed because Jason was resurrected and subsequently re-entered his life. Jason's death was so calamitous, so monumentally awful, that it changed who Bruce was as a person in a way that can never be undone or reversed, and most of the people in his life these days don't even know what Bruce was like before, while the people who do know just have to live with the fact that Bruce as he was then is as dead as Jason was (this fic by @damianbugs really gets to the unique tragedy of the whole thing so go read that). None of the other Batfam deaths have that, not even Stephanie's, which was also meant to be permanent before it got retconned, and so they don't hit as hard because they not only don't have much impact on the audience, they don't even have much impact on Bruce as a character, certainly not anywhere near that Jason's did in both intensity and longlasting effect.
The problem is that DC didn't really didn't expect Under the Red Hood to be as popular as it was, so they kept Jason around without really knowing what to do with him or having any plan for him, which is a choice we're still feeling the consequences of today in that they both still don't really know what to do with him and really resent him for it, along with his longterm popularity in all of his iterations. And fandom itself likes to just hew to tropes with no basis in canon whatsoever based on the shallowest understanding of all characters, including Jason, so that's not even helping matters much, and why I stick to my own bubble.

I saw your post about Tim and Jason and I’ve never agreed about something more. We need more fics where them getting closer is at least canon adjacent instead of the stuff we get in fanon. A lot of their fanon content really grosses me out because it sort of reads like Tim developing Stockholm syndrome for Jason who repeatedly abuses him but can’t be blamed for it because of “pit madness” 🤢. That might just be because of my personal experiences but it really grosses me out a lot of the time
YEAH NO I 100% AGREE. I think portraying Tim as automatically forgiving Jason for the awful things he does(TO TIM) and ohh Jason wants to hurt him but its not his faulltt. Is so fucking UEGH. I think its not only a disservice to both of their characters but a really weird dynamic to tag as “fluff” and “hurt/comfort”.
I especially dislike the Titan’s Tower stories not just because they misrepresent the actual scene(which is very ridiculous imo) but because having Jason beat the shit out of Tim and then WRITE ON THE WALLS WITH HIS BLOOD and then being like ohh no he’s his care taker now is so 😨. Like imagine someone beating you so bad THEY CAN WRITE WITH YOUR BLOOD and then them kidnapping you and “taking care of you” thats so fucked…
I think the fandom in general can turn Tim into a bit of a punching bag which… fair. Im not going to pretend like i dont like angst BUT when portraying these traumatic events or his interactions with the people around him they kinda make him… spineless? Which IS a valid trauma response but its not Tim. Tim can be literally on the verge of death and he’ll still probably be shit talking you y’know? He can be self sacrificing yeah but… come on.
IDK. Jason pre reboot is kinda not a great person and i think the fandom WANTS him to be and they want to twist it into “pit madness”(which isnt a long lasting thing) or “he protects women and kids”(does he?) when it just… isn’t true?
Fanon Jason as a whole is just kinda an OC with bits of current Jason mixed into him, he doesn’t exist outside the fandom. This is why i sometimes joke about being a “jason todd hater” when i dont really have much against the character(other than most his comics being shit 😔) but because i dislike some aspects of the fandom he represents.
I do think Tim and Jason have the POTENTIAL to get along. They’re both snarky bastards and that dynamic is fun to write and mess around with but there is A LOT of baggage to unpack. Titans tower stuff aside Tim broke Jason out of prison which resulted in Jason donning a batman suit and killing a bunch if people which Tim feels EXTREME guilt for. So even if pre reboot jason wants something to do with Tim(which i think he does as he continually reaches out to him) there is a lot they would need to work on. Which i admit would be interesting to read but sadly a lot of fics dont really follow the comics that well.
Anyhow closing this off i also want to mention again how the fandom prioritizes Tim’s largely fanon(or lobdell written so shouldnt be acknowledged ) relationship with jason over his long lasting canonical relationships with female characters( Cass and Helena[HELENA IS SUCH A VICTIM OF THIS OH MY GOD AND FANON JASON STEALS SO MANY OF HER TRAITS AN-]) 😔
But yeah fanon jason and tim is weird and i’d be interested to see an actual brotherhood develop between the two but i think it would take a lot of work from the both of them(which DC will definitely not put in 😔)

FAVORITE APOLLO & MEG MOMENTS GO
also is apollo, from ur prospective, more of a dad, brother, or mentor figure to meg??
i will always be on the Apollo is Meg’s Dad team. it just makes more sense to me, especially as I see him as Nero’s replacement, narratively speaking? Meg abandoning an abusive father for a better one etc.
I’ll admit that Lester sounded and acted more like a big brother, because he was at least partly a 16 year old, but Apollo the God is such a Dad to me that i’m baffled. more people don’t see it.
Top Moments Let’s Go:
1) Their reunion in TDP is silly insanely good to me. Apollo just… takes Meg back and welcomes her and accepts her completely. Not for a moment does he suspect that she could be a double agent for Nero. He just wants her to be safe with him!! GODSSS
2) Their hug in TTT. the fact that Meg feels guilty for putting him in danger and she finds the courage to express that with him and apologize (considering she’s been raised by, you know, Nero) makes me keyboard smash. And he hugs her again😭😭
3) So many moments of banter between them!!! They are so unserious.
One of my faves:
“A grove,” Meg said. “Like trees.”
“Yes, Meg, like trees. Groves are typically composed of trees, rather than, say, Fudgsicles.”
4) Their conversation at the very end of TBM when she promises him they’ll make it. Holy fuck I was so emotional and 15 and losing my whole damn mind over TBM in general. Also their other conversation in TBM, immediately after Jason’s death, when she calls him a hero. A HERO!!! And he doesn’t feel worthy of it!!
5) Their goodbye at the end of ToN. Kill me with fire will you.

in reference to what u said in the tags of my latest post. I have not read trials of apollo actually 😭😭 my critique was based on the original series and what I remember of hoo! Cuz in those Hera is very clearly painted in a more directly negative light than Zeus
Oh yeah I’m not saying you’re wrong at all, the way Rick writes her is definitely weird, I totally agree with you on that. Just wanted to point out that Zeus is also demonized almost as much or just as much as Hera
And like 75% of the Zeus bashing happens in ToA with Apollo-a god and Zeus child who has spent millennia being around Zeus-as the narrator we learn how bad Zeus actually is.
I think Rick meant Zeus to be as bad as Apollo said he is back in PJO and HoO too, he just. Didn’t get around to most of it. Zeus is barely even in PJO and HoO. At least not in the point of view of somebody who knows Zeus personally and has been around him for so long. Not in the point of view of Zeus currently being abusive and a tyrant and committing war crimes and crimes against humanity in general. Thats mainly in ToA.
In PJO we have Zeus being extremely unreasonable about the master bolt being stolen and blaming a 12 year old who didn’t even know gods existed yet and didn’t know he was a demigod when it was stolen and also Zeus was threatening an all out civil war among the gods that could very well have destroyed the entire world. Also Zeus didn’t do diddly squat to punish Ares for helping Luke steal and traffic the bolt and frame and innocent kid 12 yo for it. This is brushed off with a “oh well gods will be gods. This is normal this is just what gods do”
And in the last Olympian we have Zeus trying to kill Nico and Bianca with a lightning bolt, who were 9-12 at the time, and ended up killing their mother and probably a few other innocent bystanders in that building. Also brushed off with “oh well gods will be gods”
In HoO all we have is that one scene at the end of blood of Olympus where Jason slightly and respectfully questions Zeus’s idea and Zeus gives him a murderous stare. Jason looks genuinely afraid and Percy looked like he was about to spring into a fight with Zeus in Jason’s defense. “Oh well gods will be gods”
In ToA, Apollo regularly calls Zeus and abuser, a war criminal, a narcissist, horrible father/leader/husband, and this series is probably the first time that Zeus’s cruelty is taken seriously and talked about in depth. This series is the first time that “oh well gods will be gods” is finally thrown out the window. Apollo acknowledges that it’s not ok for Zeus or any god to act as a tyrant/abuser/war criminal and to hell with “gods will be gods”.
And there’s more sympathy for Hera in ToA too. Not alot but Apollo does mentions he feels really sorry for her having to be married to Zeus and feels sorry that she gets so much flack when all she tries to do is fix Zeus mistakes).
And I really do wish Rick would have written Hera not so rude and cold and snobby and more caring and helpful and empathetic / sympathetic with the kids when she was trying to fix Zeus’s mistakes.

you don’t have to answer bc this will probably cause discourse lol
i honestly don’t understand how chrissy can be with someone like jason yet people ship her with eddie. like you can’t argue that she didn’t know about all the names that he was called and probably thought them too, since she was afraid/nervous around him in the woods during the drug deal. it’s a small town and even smaller school, you can’t tell me that she didn’t think the same things as jason did. she just had the chance of seeing that he’s actually nice one time and it was during a drug deal.
imo everyone just wants to see themselves as the only pretty, white, thin girl who is available to ship eddie with. if chrissy was black or asian or fat then she would not have as many fans or people feeling sorry for her (in the show and irl). same with Eddie tbh but that’s a whole other can of worms that people on here aren’t ready for.
i probably would’ve liked her character better if she was woc or fat tbh but then tumblr would shame her or ship eddie with nancy instead lol
I'm answering this because a) discourse is okay as long as it's friendly and respectful, and b) because I'd like to offer my own perspective on Chrissy since she's a character I can very much relate to.
First of all, as I said, that's only my opinion but I would have shipped her with Eddie regardless of her outer appearance, body type, ethnicity or even gender for that matter because I see the potential between those two and because I see Chrissy as a character very differently than you do.
I don't mean that as an offense, but you shouldn't generalize the reasons why people like Chrissy or ship her with Eddie; they don't owe anyone an explanation for that and some people, myself included, relate to her for a whole array of deeply personal reasons (and I mean that with shipping completely aside; let's focus on Chrissy as her own character here in this reply).
What I see when I look at Chrissy is a young girl who's hurting because she's forced into a corset of conformity that suffocates her with every day. Her abusive mother and her surroundings have taught her that perfection is what matters (we clearly see that in her Vecna vision, in the facade she's putting up at the pep rally during Jason's speech - the smile never reaches her eyes, they're hollow and sad) and it's literally killing her long before Vecna strikes. She struggles with an eating disorder. Her thinness is the sign of a severe mental illness that kills people in real life. She's a victim of abuse, and she's killed in one of the most brutal, horrendous ways possible. I'm only talking about Chrissy's specific case here, not the general problems of racism and fatphobia in fandom and irl because that would be far too complex to address correctly in a single post - but we, the audience, were meant to feel sorry for Chrissy, and the reasons why many of us do are, again, varying. Personal experience, relating with her struggle etc.
Chrissy is drowning - and I can assure you, as someone who's walked in her shoes, that in her situation, you're in constant survival mode. And Jason being a narcissist doesn't help her situation, but more on that later.
you can’t argue that she didn’t know about all the names that he was called
Yes, Chrissy knew Eddie was being called a freak. But if we see one thing very clearly in the woods scene, it's that she doesn't think of him as that, and that she doesn't treat him as such - and never did because if she had, you can bet that Eddie would have taken way longer to warm to her. Compared with, for example the talk between Steve and Eddie in the UD where Steve doesn't exactly try to make Eddie comfortable or reciprocate the attempt at finding a common ground but instead subconsciously makes Eddie, once again, feel like a freak for his interest in heavy metal, the woods scene shows that Chrissy doesn't view Eddie as a freak, at least not in a bad way because her reaction to Eddie calling her the Queen of Hawkins High vs a Freak is like day and night:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This whole encounter in the woods, regardless of whether you ship them or not, clearly shows us one thing: Chrissy is deeply unhappy, and I'd even call her desperate because she holds on to Eddie for dear life because...this stranger she doesn't even know is the only one she can open up to knowing he won't judge her because he's already a freak. The situation reminds me a bit of Jack and Rose in Titanic tbh, or Belle and The Beast. This concept is indeed as old as time, storytelling-wise.
You can see her performative fake smile at the rally:
Tumblr media
vs her real smile with Eddie:
Tumblr media
I said it before: Eddie and Jason are the embodiment of two very different values. Jason stands for forced conformity and the very real danger of being bullied or worse if you don't conform; Eddie embodies being yourself and knowing your worth even if others don't see it. You can read about that here.
and probably thought them too, since she was afraid/nervous around him in the woods during the drug deal
She was very clearly nervous/afraid because the second before she met Eddie, she had the second absolutely terrifying hallucination in a single day.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now tell me, after that: wouldn't you be nervous/unsettled as well?
Eddie clearly thinks she's scared to get caught first (and tries to calm her, telling her that it was a safe place and nobody would ever come out there to catch them dealing), then he thinks she's scared of him - that's why he tells her he'd go and that it wasn't a problem. To which Chrissy says: "No, it's not that - I don't want you to go." and then she opens up to him because who else does she have to open up to? Jason? Who doesn't see her fading away further with the mental illness that's slowly killing her?
Chrissy was never scared of Eddie. (else, she would've never come to his trailer, but I digress).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The constant pressure to be perfect Chrissy faces at home, by her mother, the comments on her weight we see her making in the Vecna vision: Chrissy has been raised to believe she needs to be flawless and perfect and (since we're all human) Chrissy knows she can never be flawless and perfect, never be enough. It's constant failure, she feels inadequate and her self-esteem is very low because of it no matter that she's the Queen because she knows it's a mask and it's tied to the terms and conditions of being perfect - and being Queen puts her in a spotlight, a constant danger of people realizing she's not perfect.
It's a constant feeling of losig control, and she gains a sense of security and control in the only way she knows how: controlling her weight and her hunger. That's exactly how EDs are developed. (A widespread, very harmful misconception about EDs such as Bulimia Nervosa and Anorexia Nervosa is that those suffering from it hate people who are overweigh when in reality, it's not about weight, they hate themselves because the unattainable standards of perfectionism they were taught to adhere to cannot be attained by them. I say that as a psychologist. Those suffering from EDs are victims of unattainable standards of beauty and perfectionism as much as people who are overweight (I'm only talking about beauty standards here, not about society's reaction. I'm very much aware that people with overweight face fatphobia - they're both victims of the same system; the difference is that those on the underweight side of the spectrum of it "fit" better with the norm and thus are spared the treatment those on the overweight side of the same spectrum sadly have to face).
And that's why she's with Jason, btw, a study-book narcissist and master-manipulator. When you're struggling, especially with a low self-esteem, you fall prey to people like Jason and the sense of security they give you, their status can give you, or simply because you don't feel you deserve better.
Chrissy is running for her life long before Vecna gets her.
Again, you're perfectly entitled to your opinion on Chrissy, just like everyone else. And just like you did in your ask, I'm offering my own perspective on her as a character.

"# i think If you want a genuine critique of Batman then Leslie and her pacifism is far more interesting"
So true. Unfortunately nobody's been writing her well since the 90s or '00s. At least, I didn't come across anything featuring her in a well thought out way.
I'm split on counting War Games because 'she would not fucking do that' as people say. However, it is her position on morality taken to the twisted extreme. Still, intentionally killing or faking it, is very emotionally hurtful, like trauma inducing hurtful. Both for Steph and the Batfam and her mother.
Looked up the exact definition of pacifism and, well:
"Pacifism is a policy or doctrine of rejecting war and violence in solving disputes"
She kinda did use violence (emotional and body violating and zero consent from removing Steph from her life) to solve a dispute. Or to "free" Steph of her bat-duties, but it still counts.
Would love for Leslie to go after other batfam members and not just Bruce and argue with them about their methods.
Actually i think Stephanies death, either by medical negligence or a failure of her support system, is a natural consequence of Leslies brand of pacifism and while “She, personally, might not fucking do that” her philosophy might so its not as ooc as id like it to be.
So to discuss Leslie i think i have to establish two things 1. She suffers from being a (mostly) anti Batman character in a Batman comic* and
2. She and Jason are actually on two ends of a spectrum, with Leslie being “it is better to be the victim of violence then the perpetrator of it” and Jason being “it is better to enact unspeakable violence then be the victim of it”. With Bruce in the middle like “can we please get some nuance in here can we please get some fucking nuance” which is. Very funny actually.
(Its funny because Bruce, by being Batman, has basically decided to become the nuance - he will be violent for you, and by being so good at violence he can minimize the amount of actual violence needed)
So by letting Steph die, Leslie is essentially saying “no amount of violence can save us, isnt it better to die then without having inflicted it upon others?” Which is so very Ghandi of her, but also fucking insane and yeah Bruce was 100% right to never trust her again after that.
She is also - ok so the thing is, in-universe, being a teenage vigilante is. It’s basically like being a dance kid. Its going to have a profound and everlasting effect on the kids mental and physical health, there are side effects we still don’t entirely understand, but for the most part its just. Something some kids do!! Some of them insist on doing it (dick, damian (<-i have thoughts about why Bruce didnt want to give Damian robin ok) some of them realize it isnt good for them but cant really give it up (jason, maybe tim?) some of them are in it just for their stage moms (cissie king-jones) and some of them suffer long term consequences due to insufficient parental supervision (kon, pre-nu52) etc etc. Leslie is the mom in the corner who thinks allowing her kid to perform or even learn ballet in a studio is a slippery slide to abuse. She thinks no kid should ever be in that environment, and by Bruce allowing Dick to do so, despite Bruces reluctance in the matter and almost oppressive supervision, he has doomed an entire generation of kids.
She is never going to criticize anyone else in the batfam, because to do so would be admitting that kids have agency beyond what adults believe is best for them, and admitting that means being unable to push her “correct” views upon them.
Leslie is actually a pretty good stand in for fandom in that way; refuses to allow anyone but Bruce agency and independent thought, refuses to place blame anywhere but Bruce, insists a difference of opinion is grounds for dismissal of personhood and respect, and believes Gotham would be better off if Batman never existed.
(Once again i have no idea if i answered your question/addressed your ask. Sorry)

Helloooo I almost forgot, but do you have any headcanons for the batkids and the relationships between them? I feel like that’s bound to be interesting
Ohhs everyone definitely has a favorite or someone they just gravitate towards more
Dick & Jasons: They probably had a more acquaintance relationship in the beginning with B & Dick getting in arguments whenever they where in the same room (I mean Dick in cannon still made sure Jason had a way to contact him or reach out if he needed help or just advice) but they still hung out sometimes and would have gotten closer if Jason hadn’t died and after Jason came back their relationship was kinda strained before they had more one-on-one time and had more time to interact with each other and get to know how they’ve each changed and grown
Cass & Babs: I see with more of a mother-daughter relationship with Cass seeing Babs as a motherly figure and someone she can lean on to and can ground her, and Babs taking Cass under her wing and mentoring her and teaching her about life and how the world work (also I know Babs isn’t a batkid but when I was writing this I was thinking more just batfamily relationships in general)
Steph & Damian: Steph is one of the few people who sees that Damian is just a kid, I think she definitely wants to bring out his more childish side and teach him how to do that, and Damian for all his insults & jabs at her has things to learn from her and is protective over her
Duke & Jason: They definitely understand eachother better with them being from not so good parts of Gotham, and I think Duke understand and appreciates what Jason does and how he works. Duke care less about the methods used and sees it for how it makes crime ally a little safer and the kids there trust Red Hood (He gets rid of there abusers and people that bring them harm, and he’s just very good with them) They’re both characters that stay true to the their morals (Duke stuck with the We Are Robin movement even after it was banned bc thats what he felt was right and Jason doesn’t regret to kills he’s made bc they were bad people so to say and some people don’t feel safe unless there abuser are gone for good. At least thats how I interpret the characters)
Dick & Tim: I think their relationship didn’t start in the greatest of terms with Tim randomly showing up to Dicks place more or less saying he needs to be robin again (a role that Dick has moved from and grown out of at this point) but after Tim did become robin I think Dick became more of a mentor to him in some ways and Tim definitely looks up to Dick and vists him from time to time so they grow a strong brotherly relationship

Just had a very evil 'Red Hood!Steph' AU idea. The gist is wanting to do something a bit different over the same track as Jason while keeping the general idea.
So, taking inspiration from a world without young justice, Steph is the second Robin. Arthur gets out of prison way earlier when she';'s like 10 and an altercation with Crystal leaves her dead and Steph in hiding but stalking him, plotting revenge. She drops clues, tries to kill him with a gun he gave her as a kid, Bruce calms her down and takes her on as his Robin and adopted daughter.
Some of Steph's insights on the East End cause shifts in investments that such that either ensure Catherine lives, or Willis (not abusive just a criminal) are still able to care for Jason. He ends up as a much more welcomed Spoiler analogue.
So how does Steph die?
The Court o Owls, they are offended Bruce adopted Stephanie, even more offended she took his last name, even, even more offended she outperforms their children! So they try to kill her, it doesn't take at first, done through sacrificial pawns unaware of their role in things and Steph continues being Robin.
Cass might be around or the next Robin maybe?
This goes till she's about 13/14, so a bit before her canon debut, they finally pull off an assassination. They likely use a Rogue as cover, but its by their hand she dies and by their hand she is returned to life, their intent to make her a Talon as a final punishment, eternal slavery.
This fails, first because Steph is not wholly 'aware' but as she comes back to herself, she is convinced that Batman will save her, through experiments and trials. She gains some enchantments and manages to escape as they don't know of her training but her head space is fragile.
So fragile that all it takes to crumble the last pillar holding up her identity is seeing Batman and Robin swooping through the Sky. The shriek she unleashes can barely be called human and she flees Gotham in a maddened daze. She avoids the Court agents and starts building her war chest.
Here I am less sure, maybe Talia finds her, or David Cain (If him she kills him as a self imposed graduation condition) or she just funds her own training until she's... Let's say sixteen/seventeen? IE, her return is around the time she was Robin in the original timeline.
Whatever the case, while killing off the rogue who killed her, the gangs and such is on her to do list. Steph (Now going by Scion) is focused on the Court itself and the wealthy, so her plans also involve stuff like taking over city councils and other things.
She may also be specifically framing Batman for the murder of certain Court members to lure them out and keep Bruce off balance. Thanks to her enhancement's and suit she can at least keep up with Cass, though she still wouldn't want to fight her head on.
You know what? I hear "Steph frames Bruce for murder" and I immediately think that David Cain would work better than Talia here, and your idea of Cass being the next Robin? Is how it all comes together.
Did Steph kill David Cain but still decided to go with his plan of framing Bruce, just switching target from the innocent ex girlfriend to the sycos who kill people, then make them kill even more people, and nobody even believes they exist? And she knows Cass is Cain's daughter; moreover, she probably gives Cass an opportunity to get involved in this. Maybe - think about Jason getting Bruce into the same room with Joker to kill him, but it is Steph offering a chance to do the "right thing" to Cass. Because she feels a certain kinship you get when you both are raised by abusive fathers, who hurt your mom very much (Crystal is dead and, correct me if I'm wrong, Lady Shiva - Sandra - wasn't like that before Cain killed her young sister and then kidnapped her and made carry a child for him; so I believe it counts).
But of course Cass is trying to save Cain. Not because she has any kind of feelings for her biological father, but because that's how she is.
So only after that the frame-up is a go. And you know what would be funny? Bruce Wayne getting arrested, and his adopted daughter Cassandra is fostered by... Willis Todd. I don't know if ex-convict can be foster parents - probably not - so maybe Willis testified against Two-Face, made a deal, his conviction was overthrown or he wasn't even arrested, or if he was, he wasn't tried.
And that's when Jason because Spoiler. When his foster sister is sneaking out to get justice for her adoptive father, and comes back black and blue (the suit and the enhancement of Talons make them a formidable enemies). Would be funny if Jason, trying to help his sister, met and befriended Scion, not knowing that she was the one to beat Cass up. Well, they beat each other up, but Steph's healing factor is off the roof so you can't tell by looking at her.
So as Robin!Cass forbids Spoiler! Jason from interfering, he partners with Scion to take down Court of Owls who are, he feels, targeting Cass. In a big showdown between all the parties them three end up partnering against Court, take them down. And then Cass, with the last breath left in her, attacks Scion.
Steph runs away. Jason is left in a very uncomfortable place as when you're in the middle school and two of your best friends don't talk to each other, and if you talk to one of them, the other won't talk to you.

I remember that you talked about Joker's humanity few days ago and mentioned that two stories in which Joker was nice to kids. Makes me wonder, what father Joker would be in your opinion? If he had kids after his chemic bath and knew about their exist, do you think he would be want participate in raising them? Or at least sometimes sent them gifts or took them to a amusement park or something? Do you think he could hurt or kill them, or this small part of "good" in the Joker would stop him? I love your analyses, by the way and I will be eternal grateful for your reblog of my post about Jack Napier from "Tales From the Dark Multiverse: Batman: Hush", it means the world to me <3
Well. Two stories in which he's a little nice to kids don't really equal him liking them. Joker's moments of humanity are the exception, not the rule.
I will put the rest under the cut because there'll be mentions of child abuse and murder (warning for that). Because... yeah, this is Joker after all.
Canonically, he's killed a teenager (Jason Todd), and the way he handled babies in No Man's Land doesn't really indicate... caring. Pretty sure he's blown up schools or let out Joker gas in places where children were present, and he's indirectly put the lives of children in danger more than once by taking hostages (most recently in Batman: Fortress #1).
Also, this pretty much happened -- Joker finding out he had a kid after his chemical bath. The whole thing is a bit of a mess; in spirit, Anarky isn't actually Joker's son, and the writers intended to reveal this information all along. However, they didn't manage to actually write this in, so... technically, as it stands, Anarky (or Lonnie Machin) is Joker's son? I don't even know. I'm pretty sure though that we're all thinking he isn't, and God knows what New 52 and Rebirth mean for the character's continuity. However, the existence of Anarky does offer us an glimpse into how Joker would react to this scenario in Anarky (1999) #8, if you are interested. Joker clearly doesn't believe that he's got a son. But then he changes his tune, admitting the possibility and manipulating Anarky to make use of his way of escaping Arkham. But when Anarky keeps trying to stop him and other rogues from killing, Joker shoots Anarky without hesitation.
If he found out about a potential offspring of his who wasn't an adult (maybe Lucy Quinzel in the Injustice universe), but still a child... I think it'd depend a lot on the child. If Joker related or not. Because, outside of moments in which he's been forced into sanity by external circumstances, Joker only shows a more humane side to individuals he empathizes with; and in the case of those two stories I mentioned in that previous ask, we're talking about a psychopathic child and a child who's been abused by their parents (things he can relate to). So, if this child of his was also more on the sociopathic, wishing-for-violence, chaotic and troublemaker side, I think there's a chance Joker would steal the kid away and mold them into another version of himself (similar to what he tried with Tim Drake in Batman Beyond's Return of the Joker, or what he tried with 'Ric' Grayson while his memory was gone). He might care, and he might take the kid out on all sorts of activities... but they'd be blowing-up-buildings and murdering activities. So that child would turn out very traumatized, I feel. In general, Joker would have a 'you have to prove yourself worthy of being my child' attitude, and sadly I do think he could kill the kid if they didn't manage to live up to that.
The one kid he wouldn't be able to kill is his son, but the one from before the chemical bath (if the TKJ origin is taken as true). (Batman: Three Jokers has both him and Jeannie alive, so. Sigh. As I said elsewhere, I fully expect DC to bring this up again at some point and in a very badly written way.) But, if Joker were to be confronted with the child he had with Jeannie -- the one he thought dead alongside her, a child that's part of the very trauma that led to him becoming Joker in the first place... that'd be very interesting. It might undo him. (It'd be like someone bringing Bruce's parents back to life and throwing them in his arms.) Joker's whole thing is that nothing matters and that life is absurd; but this would be someone to fight for. If he got his family back, that'd contradict the whole thesis of the Joker persona. Man, it could be really cool to read how he'd handle it, if it just were written well. He'd have such a complex choice to make regarding who he'll be, moving forward. Grr.
I'm sorry for being a bummer! Joker in the comics is especially brutal, and it can't really be swept under the rug. But thank you for the ask, and I'm really glad you're appreciating my analyses! Reblogging that post was my pleasure and nothing to thank me for, I loved finding out about another incarnation of Batman and Joker. Take care <3 <3
