Gonna talk about a part of The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals that i really love
[this was brought on by me getting ready to shower and then being distracted because i put on Let It Out and Thoughts happened]
SO after the meteor hits and people are singing and dancing, Paul goes to work and asks about it. Charlotte says that her husband Sam isn’t a bad singer, but he’s always been a little flat. But this morning, he was singing in the shower and he sounded like an angel and it frightened her
So we’re told that becoming infected changes your voice. You know, you become part of the hivemind and basically an instrument for pokey’s orchestra, sounding as good as he needs you to sound. But we get no example of this.
We don’t hear any characters sing when they’re not infected (ignoring Emma in RCOC and the professor in Show Stopping Number), we have no frame of reference for voices really changing after infection.
Until Let It Out. We get the “Jekyll and Hyde” type scene from Paul.
[gonna take a long minute here to really show some appreciation for Jon’s physical and vocal acting, that man is wonderful]
Of course, we can see the difference between the paul we know, and the paul he is becoming because of infection in his body language. The dancing. Human Paul will not dance, is actively fighting against the puppet strings attached to his limbs that are getting stronger by the second, and infected!Paul is dancing happily, in a way that almost doesn’t completely fit the tone of this song.
Human Paul is terrified by what’s happening to him, his confusion and fear written on his face every time he loses control of his body and voice. Infected!Paul is revelling in human!Paul losing control, a wide smile on his face as he dances and sings.
But the vocal acting is my favourite part of Jon’s performance in this number. You can hear the difference between human and infected (and if you can’t hear it in the show, it’s much more obvious in the cast recording). Human Paul’s voice is lower, shakier, clearly showing that Paul is scared and not wanting to sing. Infected!Paul’s voice is higher, louder, more full, because he wants to sing. He’s a part of Pokey’s orchestra and it’s finally his time for a solo. Infected!Paul even takes his moments in control to say how much happier he is and how he was crazy to resist this, while human! Paul is battling for his life and saying he’d be crazy now to give in, and his final words are “I don’t like musicals!”
Jon does perfectly acting as Paul fighting against two different versions of himself and i love him. Big round of applause for Jon Matteson👏👏👏
And then of course in inevitable, any trace of human Paul is gone from his voice. He is completely, 100% infected now. Part of the hivemind. Not coming back. The happiness with which he sings and dances, all the while at some moments being hostile towards Emma as she tries to get away and he tries to infect her too. It’s finally his time to shine, he doesn’t get to sing or dance in almost the whole show, he gets one full song to show his prowess and by Pokotho, he is gonna show it !!
i love these numbers sm, there’s a reason they’re two of my favourites in the show

Ikevamp headcanons after watching Hamilton
Quick disclaimer: Yes I know this is a show about people who had owned slaves and slavery is bad. Having said that there's a reason why we suspend disbelief for a couple of hours and just allow ourselves to be swept into the story. I also love Phantom of the Opera but I also am aware that this is a story that involves an abusive and toxic relationship. The point is that I am aware that there are problems that needs to be discussed, but I still love the music, the story and the shows okay. This is just fan content not meant to be taken seriously and is just for fun. Okay? Now let's proceed.
I'll be doing Will and Arthur first since I'm currently doing Shakespeare's route and was inspired to do this after MC watches Romeo and Juliet with Vincent and I was wondering how Will would react to watching Hamilton. And Arthur is here because he is my husband/main lover. I might do Mozart and Napoleon next.
SPOILER ALERT: For anyone who hasn't seen the Disney Plus version of Hamilton, there might be some spoilers here (unless you already saw the show or know the story that is).
General Scenario:
You don't know how but Le Comte was able to get the filmed version of Hamilton, a musical which you've told Sebastian that you've been dying to see but was never able to because tickets were always sold out and entering the lottery was going to be a little too expensive for someone who lives in Japan and who doesn't exactly have the money or the time to simply fly to New York if in case she won. You were also excited because apparently Le Comte was able to modify the 21st century tech room that you use for your online classes and was able to get a wide screen and high quality surround sound which made you appreciate his efforts. A part of you was also curious as to how the other residents would react. You were scared that some of them might take offense, especially Napoleon who knew one of the characters in the show in real life. Would they react weirdly for seeing people different from them portray people that they knew? You were also wondering if they might even appreciate some of the 21st century slang that you and Sebastian would sometimes slip back into whenever it was just the two of you alone. After talking it out with everyone and explaining a few more things (like how its probably going to be different since it is a series of captured pictures-or at least that's your closest analogy- being played super fast with the synchronized sound of the actors- or what you were almost tempted to call "Techno Magic") during a dinner in which Shakespeare had decided to be present in, they were actually interested in what this show is about. Napoleon convinced you that he's fine and actually someone else playing Lafayette might even help with the suspension of disbelief since its been awhile since he has last met him anyway. Will even mentioned that while he has read and heard about stories from America, this is probably going to be the first story or production he's going to see from it. The only one who showed any hesitation - to no one's surprise - was Mozart, since he is attached to the kind of music he is familiar with (aren't we all?). But after prodding from both Jean, Le Comte and you giving him the puppy eyes, he finally relents. The day comes when everyone was once again free and for practicality everyone decided to have a meal first so that they won't be hungry during the show and also for you, Le Comte, and Sebastian to explain a few things everyone else may need to know to truly appreciate the show (like how the Presidential system and elections worked during the setting, what the word "Rewind" means, what is beatboxing, etc). So finally everyone gathered into the tech room after the meal, the lights were dimmed and once everyone was settled, you hit play. And as self-predicted of you, you find yourself crying in the end.
William Shakespeare (I'm still doing his route so please don't hate me if I get him wrong. Also no spoilers please).
- He was a bit shocked at first by how exactly up close you could see the facial expressions of the actors as well as the various ways it would cut to another person. He could now understand why you struggled with trying to explain how its played in a theatre but not exactly like the theatrical experience. But as you saw in your periphery, by the time Philippa Soo sings her first line, Will had already adjusted and allowed himself to be an audience and shut off his director and actor mindset (for the most part at least).
- While he didn't specialize in musicals, he found himself paying attention to the story of "the ten dollar founding father without a father." He knows how music could help both the actors and the audience in succumbing to their emotions in a scene and to suspend disbelief from reality. In his productions the words are not overwhelmed by any score but rather complemented to bring out the emotion he wants to evoke and for actors to show. Since many parts of the show has been influenced by the spoken word style without completely removing it from being sung, he has become enlightened with how powerful a show can be when it is done right.
- He not only enjoyed the story (especially the flow of it) and the production (especially some of the more technical details that the other residents hadn't noticed as far as a stage production is concerned), he loved that even the ensemble members had good acting and some of the onstage humor. One of the meta things he enjoyed was the obvious reference to his most superstitious work.
- Once you've seen how he loves analyzing the technical details of the production, you excitedly tell him about a special member of the ensemble who is known as "The bullet" among fans of the show. You could see him being enlightened as he watches the show with you again (this time with just the two of you) and he now sees "the bullet" and the way she interacts with the characters in a whole different light. He was so impressed with this idea that he may have adapted it into one of his new original plays (its not a copy paste of Hamilton's "bullet" but he definitely adapted assigning a member of the ensemble to have a special role that may not be significant at first, but he heavily notes that this member would have to be unique in interacting with any of the other characters).
- He didn't know what to expect from a 21st Century production but he found himself impressed with the prose and writing of various raps and songs. His favorite from Act 1 in terms of rhyme schemes was "Right Hand Man" and from Act 2 it was Jefferson's rap in "Washington by your side". And after settling down a bit his favorite emotional parts were "History has its eyes on you", "Hurricane", and "It's quiet uptown".
- He was impressed with how the double roles was given and how it actually is true for both of their roles in both acts. Ambiguity is one of his favorite things to have in a work, and he gives props to Lin for all the ambiguity he later realizes was in several parts of the show. If he and Arthur had been a little bit more closer, they probably would have bonded over the ambiguity Hamilton's comma in his letter to Angelica (see kids, grammar matters).
- A part of his brain wonders how the real life Hamilton would react to this and if him and Burr would still be enemies. But after some thinking he decides its not worth his efforts of asking anyone to bring them back since a wonderful production of their life has already been made even if it may not necessarily reflect who they truly are. He of all people knew what it's like to be inspired by great figures, it was fortunate that Lin Manuel Miranda decided to make a show about them before he had the chance to.
- You explain that in America Hamilton is one of the lesser known founding fathers of their nation and how it may be because his political opponents later on became Presidents and therefore was able to form the narrative. He becomes inspired by it and begins to search out people or stories who are hidden gems who may not be historically famous but had much more interesting stories than some of the ones he has heard of.
- Afterwards once you are sure that he has gotten comfortable enough with the genre you show him various videos of people rapping to his works and his reactions range from impressed to amused to "that's not what I mean when I wrote that" and you had to calm him down and explain that they can't hear him anyway after he started giving serious critiques on what the text means.
Arthur Conan Doyle
- While he was knowledgeable about many things, America's founding fathers was not one of them. He along with the other residents have gotten used to any rumors or exaggerated accounts of their lives and you and Sebastian have already warned that this is just a fictionalized production of the real person. As a writer of some historical fiction books he argued that he of all people was aware that any work based on history will speak more about the creators rather than the actual people they are writing about most of the time. He was nevertheless interested as to why you have become fascinated with the treasury secretary (and maybe it was with a twinge of jealousy that you began to expressly show admiration to another man even if he wasn't among the residents in the mansion). After all unlike many other residents of the mansion, on the surface it seemed that Hamilton was similar to Theo who mainly played a supporting but crucial role to his brother. He was thankful that you didn't hold it against him and was comforted that you were in a similar place. You even told him that the only thing you really knew about Hamilton before listening to the soundtrack and watching "Animatics" was that he was in the ten dollar American bill.
- And as someone who has delved into writing historical fictions, this was probably one of the most entertaining productions about a historical figure he has seen. He's going to be honest with you in that at first he was wondering if revealing Burr shot Hamilton in the opening was going to hinder him from enjoying the show; but he was pleasantly surprised that this was not the case at all. As a matter of fact it now made him want to find out who the real Hamilton was (although a part of him doubts if the real Hamilton had any regrets at all). According to him, this is why as a fictionalized historical work, the show is a success because it makes you want to find out more about the events and figures of the story (even if it means looking at darker realities that they did). And while the real Hamilton may be a lot different from what was shown, with all the things he went through and all the things he has done (for better or worse), he now wonders why exactly Le Comte hadn't approached him since he seems to be no better or worse than the average resident ("He and Newt could probably discuss mathematics all day."). You then explained that his political rivals (Jefferson and Madison from the show, and Monroe who wasn't shown in the musical) had later on become Presidents and was able to shape the narrative away from Hamilton. "Ron Chernow made Hamilton's biography because he was the lesser known founding father who was fading into obscurity among Americans and Lin read the book and recognized the story of someone who has risen through his writings. And to Lin that was also the story of hiphop." While he wasn't involved in politics as much as Hamilton was, Arthur had enough experience to know what it feels like to have those kinds of people in power. He also knows just how powerful it is to be in "the room where it happened" and how sometimes the real decisions weren't being made in an office but rather in either a private party or the right bar when people in power had their guard down and were more susceptible to being influenced.
- He could relate a lot with Hamilton on many things that he's only comfortable allowing either you or Theo to see. From being just so much more aware of death's inevitability coming for every living thing to survivor's guilt even though a part of him knows its irrational (but sometimes the emotional nonsense just overtakes our perspectives and actions). It's why he could understand Hamilton's need to write as much as he can before he dies. It's why for a time in his human life he had deviated from writing about Holmes and ventured into other genres. He could also relate to the need to prove what type of person he was, and how to go beyond his tragedies to serve people in their own ways. Hamilton did it as a soldier and the creator of America's financial system. And he is doing it as an informally practicing doctor and as a writer. It's a need that he's trying to mitigate since you've repeatedly told him that he doesn't need to prove anything to you or to anyone and to write whatever he pleases. But he also can't deny that it's still somewhere lodged in the back of his head.
- Just like William Shakespeare, in terms of the wordplay found in rap and the ambiguity present in the show and how those things were executed made him amazed and momentarily speechless. He was especially fanboying about "The comma after dearest" and how this essentially shows how important grammar was. It went to the extent that afterwards whenever he would write to you he would address you either as "My dearest, Y/N" or "My darling, Y/N" with special emphasis on the comma (sometimes you could see how there's more ink in the comma than some of the actual words. That's how much he wants to emphasize that you hold the title of dearest or darling). And you excitedly share with him some of the trivia knowledge of the show (like how in real life it was Angelica who originally made the comma mistake by writing to Hamilton as "My dear, sir" in one of her letters and it was Hamilton who was asking her what the comma means and even replied with "Ma chere, soeur") and how Angelica really did reference the Icarus metaphor in one of her letters to Eliza. And even though he wasn't a major musical nerd (he sang for fun), he would now join you in watching Howard Ho's Hamilton videos musically analyzing Hamilton (and would probably try to find a way to use this knowledge to annoy Mozart in some way).
- Speaking of music: Maybe it's because he's biased in his love for you but aside from Sebastian he's probably the one who has no qualms about the hiphop genre and was immediately into the various wordplays that rapping allowed. And because of this his favorite characters in terms of rapping are the ones played by Daveed Diggs (probably more than Hamilton himself even though you've explained that Lin is the one who wrote the whole thing). He even adapts to how Daveed as Jefferson would say Isaac's third law and incorporated it into his "let's tease Newton" kit. That's when you know he really loves Daveed Diggs ("Every action has an equal opposite -" "WILL YOU PLEASE STOP SAYING IT THAT WAY?! I didn't mind the first few times but this is ridiculous Arthur" "It must be nice, it must be nice to have a Newton on your side"). And his favorite character emotionally was Angelica (her raps in Schuyler Sisters and Satisfied may have helped).
- Speaking of the Schuyler Sisters, after watching it with you another time (this time with just the two of you) one of his favorite things to say is that you've got the best of all three sisters within you (Angelica's wittiness and intelligence, Eliza's cares for the more important things in life, and Peggy's humor) with the sexiness of Maria Reynolds. But because he sees all 4 of them in you he has the benefit of not needing to choose among them. Having said that there will be a period wherein he teases you if he makes you "Helpless" or "Satisfied" (and you respond either by kissing him or singing "That would be enough").
- Whenever you would sing as one of the Schuyler sisters he will join you as any of the male characters the moment he masters the soundtrack and could even sing it without the music. His favorite rap songs are "Guns and Ships", "Washington on your side", and of course "Satisfied". He also really loves "Non-stop", "the 10 duel commandments", and "The room where it happened". But his favorite sequence is from "the Winter's Ball" all the way to "Wait for it". Since it has romance, a shocking revelation, and gives insight to the perspective of the antagonist. He's also one of the first people to attempt to learn the choreography whenever he's in one of his mental blocks in writing. Of course he makes sure not to injure himself.
- He posts song lyrics to keep himself motivated in his times of mental block "There's a million things I haven't done. But just you wait" and "I'm not throwing away my shot" frequently appear around his desk.
-And whenever he's feeling low or insecure, just like Eliza you remind him to "Look around, Look around, how lucky we are to be alive right now."

Batfam disney film headcanons
Normal Disney
The Little Mermaid
- Damian finds Eric ‘likeable’ - its because Eric is practically Dick Grayson
- Bruce accidentally reveals that young Dick had a crush on Ariel and the others tease him mercilessly
- “Seriously, Dickhead, every redhead you’ve ever seen?”
- Dick grumbles but has a gleam in his eyes as he stares at the screen during part of your world
- “Is she serious? Surely one who has studied this much knows what feet are-”
- “Demon, shut up”
- They say Grimsby is a knock off alfred
- “Oh, please, knock-off means it bears some resemblance. I surely hope other than the accent you all see no relation of him to me.”
- They all kinda love Ursula, in their own special way
- Steph is dancing around, if you could call it dancing, dragging cass with her (who is smiling the whole time) during under the sea
- Jason leans back and, with a cruel smile on his face, exclaimes that “this is the best song” during les poissons
- Which causes an uproar from most of the others
Aladdin
- Everyone tiptoes around it, and then steph makes one joke and suddenly its constant jason jokes
- “Is crime alley this musical?”
- “Would you all shut up? *mumbling* I didn’t even have a monkey”
- “Who’s your Jasmine, aladdin?”
- “Tt, statistically speaking based on time spent together, it’s that buffoon Harper”
- Jason is an inch from killing them but none of them really care at this point
- Once they caught him humming one jump ahead while cooking and they will never ever let him live it down
- “steph I swear if you keep playing the Gilbert Gottfried version of WAP over iago-”
- Rajah appears, and it’s too late for them to turn the movie off before
- “Father, I would like a bengal tiger.”
- Most of them are clearly having a great time during friend like me
- Jason brings up the talent of Robin williams
- and damian says “who”
- Jason turns, bewildered, and decides he’s going to force him to watch every single robin williams movie until he finds one he likes (It’s Jumanji, surprisingly. Dick likes Mrs. Doubtfire, Tim loves Good Will Hunting, Jason loves Dead Poets Society, Bruce is partial to Good Morning Vietnam, Steph loves Aladdin, Cass loves Hook)
- They have a moment of silence at the end for robin williams
Lilo and Stitch
- The family likes to joke Damien is stitch
- “A violent” “but loveable” “little gremlin...”
- “Tt, if we’re assigning roles, then Drake is that contemptuous redheaded girl”
- ‘Listen brat-”
- Duke shuts them up by saying that “this is the most ohana family i’ve ever seen in my life”
- Cass wants to learn how to spit fire
- Steph is fully on board, and so is Jason
- Damian wants to watch
- Alfred is about to have a heart attack
- But Damian does enjoy the movie, as it reminds him of his acceptance among the bats - not that he’d tell them
- Surprisingly, this movie also means a lot to Jason and Dick
- even if they don’t say it out loud
- they watched it together when Jason was young; and the sibling relationship in the movie moves ‘em both - and Jason can enjoy some quality Elvis
- However awkward, they’re nicer to each other after each viewing, and on a bad day they both get emotional during the movie (one more than the other, openly anyway)
- That cannot and will not stop Jason from messing with the bats/breaking the rules the next day on Patrol, and when Dick or Bruce confronts him, yelling “Ohana, bitch” and jumping off the building
A goofy movie
- Similar to Lilo and Stitch in terms of bonding, it brings Bruce closer to the boys
- but especially Jason, because Jason
- is Jason
- and would def. be the one to object the most to a road trip
- They make an uneasy but loving eye contact during ‘Nobody else but you’
-  Dick LOVES powerline, tell me i’m wrong; this bitch knows all the dance moves to both Stand Out and Eye to Eye (and the perfect catch, technically)
- Tim thinks the movie is worth watching just for Bobby (”you would, nerd”)
- Steph insists it has the best looking Pizza in any movie ever
Tumblr media
“LOOK AT IT”
“We’re looking steph”
“LOOK HARDER”
Pixar lightning round
- Toy Story
- It’s been banned at Wayne Manor
- Not because they don’t like it
- But because Jason objects to Randy Newman
- And Dick attempts even MORE death-defying stunts on Patrol, claiming he’s “falling with style”
- A bug’s life
- Dick likes it, it reminds him of the circus,
- but other than that none of them really care too much about it
- Toy Story 2
- Often referenced whenever a family member breaks their arm (”NOW I CAN’T GO TO COWBOY CAMP”
- Jason says “Hey look, it’s bruce” every time zurg is on screen and Bruce is sick of it
- Once, an argument broke out during ‘When she loved me’
- “Oh, Sarah McLachlan”
- “Who?”
- “The one singing - she does those stupid ASPCA commercials”
- “Stupid? It is advertising to aid animals subjected to cruelty. You’re the stupid one.”
- “Brat, shut up, it’s a commercial.”
- “Do you support animal cruelty?”
- “What?! I-”
- “Go ahead, take it out on me. I am glad Alfred and Titus are not here as I know they would be your primary target, monster.”
- So they’ve stopped watching the movie
- Monsters inc.
- Jason always wants to watch it
- he used to love watching it with Roy (who, unbeknownst to anyone except Jason and Kori) would cry at the ending thinking of Lian
- It’s also just hilarious
- Finding Nemo
- They think it’ll teach Bruce to be less overprotective
- They were wrong
- He hovers even more
- Which prompts steph to walk up to a warehouse on a mission yelling “look at me, i’m gonna go touch the butt”
- when Gil came on screen someone said “look, it’s deathstroke” which prompted a chuckle out of everyone
-The Incredibles;
-They all recognize the irony of a superhero family movie, but enjoy it nonetheless
- Once, Jason pointed out how similar Syndrome’s origin story was to Tim
- everyone was a little rattled, and were grateful Tim decided to persist to good
-Cars
- “Wow”
- “Wow”
- “WOW”
- “wow”
-Ratatouille
- Tim and Barbara both love it
- They admire the work being done almost methodically
- Jason and Alfred enjoy the cooking in the movie, as they are both avid chefs
- Damian also admires the film, though he called the plot “ludicrous” he likes the music
- They have to force Dick out of the destroyed kitchen as he yells “anyone can cook!” the next day
- Wall-E
- Cass loves this one - especially as it’s mostly told through body language
-It inspires Tim to start a new ‘Go green’ wayne manor initiative
- Damian will watch the first half but insists the movie loses its quality when the humans arrive
- Up
- Damian wants a talking dog
- Dick’s favorite pixar movie, probably
- He loves the beginning, and the soundtrack, and the house flying, and Ellie
- Once Tim got him a grape soda pin and he wore it for weeks
- Brave;
-They tease Dick more (redhead)
- The girls love it
- At least one person tries to do a scottish accent with every viewing
- Inside Out
- Dick was sobbing by the end
- Cause this mans does nothing but bottle up all emotions other than joy
- For the people around him
- He gets the support from his family that Riley gets and suddenly everyone’s emotional (as emotional as Bats can be, I suppose)
- Coco
- Jason sings remember me in spanish often when he thinks no one is around
- They watch it on Halloween and Jason laments how young him probably would have gone as Miguel for halloween with the hoodie his mom gave him; however it wouldn’t fit now
- throwing him a Dia De los Muertos celebration (yes Jason is latino fight me)
- He appreciates it, begrudgingly, but gets emotional when he finds a new red hoodie up in his room, not knowing who its from
- It becomes his new favorite pixar movie
______ If you have more movie ideas please let me know because i’m loving doing this

Speaking of music, I really like to sing, and I think I'm actually pretty good at it. I don't open up very easily at all, so if I'm honest with you I really trust you. And I've been described as the friend everyone comes to for comfort/advice, and I take that role with pride. In public, I can be very affectionate, or not affectionate at all. It really depends on what my S/O would like. But when we're home, I'm usually pretty clingy. (I hope thiat wasn't too much, or too little, info!) (2/2)
okay so I did a huge whoops and deleted the first half of this ask. Here's the first part of it:
Hi, I'm here for a matchup! (Sorry in advance if I do a lot of asks to fit in all my info). My name is Viper, I am Genderfluid, Pansexual, and Polyamorus. I am an ambivert, who normally doesn't leave my house unless asked, but once I do my inner extrovert comes out. But I can only take so much, and after a couple of hours I'll need some alone time to relax. I like to read adventure/sci-fi/horror books when I get the chance. I also am an amateur artist, who listens to music 24/7. (1/?)
Hello there! Don't worry about it at all the more information on you the merrier. Reading this you honestly sound like such an awesome person to be around with and just hangout. Like I could just say something that's been on my mind for a really long time and it's pretty heavy but you completely just listen and understand. You're just someone everybody gets along with you know? Immediately when I read everything two boys came to mind instantly and though they may be the most basic answers I'd say I got the match pretty accurate. Or at least I'd like to think so lol. Thank you so much for sending this in!
I match you with Horrortale!Sans and Undertale!Sans
Alright so immediately off the bat you may be thinking 'how the fuck did I get here?' and honestly that's a valid question. You don't exactly see the two and think that they're best friends who could both share a very cute human. Axe reflects Sans in such a way that really disturbs him. If the human just made one different decision Sans would've been left in the underground to starve with every other monster. He also isn't very fond of how Crooks appears and it kind of haunts him that in another timeline he failed Paps. Axe on the other hand isn't fond of Sans because he feels like he always acts high and mighty. He doesn't like how Sans can sit around and act like Axe is some sort of freak when Sans isn't even a completely innocent monster himself. He just acts like a lazy idiot but he isn't. It also doesn't help that whenever Axe looks at Sans he's just reminded of how his Frisk wronged him. He's reminded that he isn't the monster he used to be because of the head injury he endured and the hardships underground. As mentioned before, one wrong move and at the end of the day Sans and Axe are one of the same. They both reflect the parts of each other that they would rather live without confronting.
There's immediately a lot to unpack here from the start. Getting the two to even begin to compromise on a poly relationship with you is admittedly going to be a challenge. It would require you to be able to firmly hold your ground and get them to sort their shit out. It's a lot of conversation and trust needed in order for this to work out. In the end, they both come to the compromise after a lot of discussion and setting boundaries of what is and isn't alright with them. Sometimes they might clash a bit and have those issues resurface (its very rare since both skeletons when needed are amazing at concealing their emotions) and you'll need to act as the middleman. At the end of the day it's all worth it to them just to see you happy.
Let's start off first with Sans. It's amazing how I've gone on for a bit and I haven't even technically started. The fact that you don't really like going out of your way to go out unless asked to is a bit of a relief. It's not that Sans doesn't like socializing, it's just that a lot of the time he really needs a break to just relax on the couch and nap with you, you know? He's got a lot on his mind and Papyrus often scolds him for sleeping and with Grillby's it can at times be overwhelming when he just needs peace and quiet. Just knowing that his cute datemate isn't going to do any of that helps him relax. It's going to be a lot of just enjoying each other's company even if it's quiet at the start. The silence between you two isn't ever uncomfortable though, just enjoying your company is enough for him. Of course there will actually be times where he does offer you to go to Grillby's and when you say yes he's always really happy to share his favorite bar with you. When you two sit together at his usual spot it's a lot of him joking around with you and absolutely looking at you with heart eyes when he gets a certain genuine laugh out of you. He's actually teased about it a lot the few times you don't accept his offer to go to Grillby's. Sans lives to see you smile with his jokes and he just tells them that they're jealous he ended up with such a cute datemate and they didn't. If you ever find yourself exhausted and you need to go home after you're bone tired just tell him and he'll teleport you right home no hassle.
Once you reach a certain point in your relationship Sans will start to gradually accept your affection. You'll need to ease him into it, since he's really not used to anybody besides his brother showing him any sort of affection. Of course before this he's absolutely bombarding you with flirty puns numerous times but physical affection? That's going to take a while. However once he's used to it you can absolutely smother him all you want. He'll only get embarrassed if it's in a public place like Grillbys but he's good at hiding it for the most part. In front of people like his brother he'll still be a little unsure but for the most part it's like a running joke where Pap yells at him to knock it off and Sans pushes his buttons a little. It often goes a little like this:
Papyrus: SANS! I DEMAND THAT YOU UNHAND THE HUMAN THIS INSTANT!
Sans, a hand on your waist: what human?
Papyrus: THE ONE IN YOUR POSSESSION
Sans, pulling you closer: this human?
Papyrus: SANS
Sans: this one right here?
Papyrus: SANS STOP
Sans, moving his hands a little lower:
Papyrus: SANS PLEASE WE'RE SURROUNDED BY CHILDREN THIS IS A HUMAN CHILD'S 5TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION
It's all in good fun and he never goes further than that. The one place he'll draw the line is if you get a little too sexual for him in public. Especially if his brother is right there. He prefers to keep that stuff just between you and him.
Okay now onto Axe! Unlike Sans, Axe would rather stay inside for the rest of his life than go outside. His appearance discourages him from wanting to do so. If you're with him this mentality will probably be projected onto you as well. He won't really ask you to go out anywhere (unless it's somewhere he specifically knows will make you happy) so in terms of that don't expect much from him. Axe is really happy that you don't really like going out either way and you'd rather spend time with him inside the house where it's safe, warm, and he can keep an eye out for you. It's comforting to him that he can know where you are and that you're happy with him. His favorite moments with you are when you've got your head in a book and he sees your face relax as you get lost in your own little world. It's just the cutest thing. Axe absolutely adores the fact that you're clingy because unlike his counterpart (assuming that at this point he obviously trusts you) it doesn't take time for him at all to want to cuddle you, hold you in his arms, kiss you, etc. He's shy about none of it. The only thing you'd really need to look out for is when you try and initiate affection yourself. It's not that it's unwelcomed; he just doesn't take surprises well due to the nature of his underground. Make sure that you let him know what's coming and you'll both be perfectly fine. During the few times that you two are in public together he's not shy about showing the world that you're his. The only time where he might ask you to step back a little is when you're with his brother. He doesn't like Crooks seeing stuff like this because he still has an instinct to protect him from things. Not that you'd ever try anything of course.
An aspect about you that both skeletons greatly appreciate is how you're very honest with the people that you love and that you act as the friend who listens. They've both found themselves in the same position as you and now that you're dating both of them it's a wonderful change of pace. You all can sit down and vent to each other instead of only listening to others rant and you all absolutely trust each other. Honesty and integrity are both traits the skeletons really look for in a datemate. There's basically no secrets between the three of you and for your skeleton boys thats definitely new for them. As for your talent with singing and art? They genuinely can't get enough of either. Whenever you draw something? Sans will literally stare and wonder how he ended up with someone as talented as you meanwhile Axe has already grabbed the drawing and put it on the fridge. If you ever try and talk yourself down both of them are immediately on your case about how you shouldn't put yourself down and that everything you make is a masterpiece. Axe will literally also ask you who the fuck made you think like that and where do they live. He isn't joking. Sans won't be as vocal about it as Axe is but he's listening in as well. With your singing they both love your voice to pieces. Sans will hype you up to every single person at Grillby's and even encourage you to let others hear your talent. If not, that's cool too. He can just sit and listen at home. Axe mostly likes to ask for you to sing to him when he's having a really rough day or when it's late at night and you're both alone. What can he say? It helps him sleep.

Chapter ten - fights and families
There’s a sizzling in the air as Angel and Callie arrive at the Clubhouse. A crowd of people is gathered together, all clutching various different alcoholic drinks as the bass of some song vibrates through the night. A beautiful female voice sings some melodic Spanish lyrics, just a little too quickly for Callie to properly understand with her limit knowledge of the language.
It’s something she needs to work on, wants to work on, living in Santo Padro where the Mexican culture is so alive and vibrant. It’s something she wants Daisy to grow up with, especially now that Angel seems to become a more long-term fixture in their lives.
A strong smell of beer and sweat and cigarettes hit Callie’s nose and though technically it shouldn’t be a pleasant scent, something about it makes her feel almost nostalgic. It’s been a long time since she’s properly been to a party. The last must’ve been before she had been pregnant with Daisy. Looking back that all seemed like a whole lifetime ago. The girl then and the girl now are not the same. Maybe though, Callie thinks, she can allow those two to become one and let go and be young and in love for a night until she has to go back to mom duties again tomorrow.
Angel’s hand slips into the back pocket of her jeans, there’s something possessive about it, something territorial and though with everyone else Callie would’ve hated it, when Angel does it there’s a certain charm to it.
The next few minutes fly by in a blur. People get introduced, names thrown around and forgotten immediately. There are so many people and so many names and Callie tries to keep up but — there’s just so much one person can remember.
She’s met most of his brothers before, has grown quite fond of both Coco and Gilly and not just because they helped fix up the store. Those two might be a little crazy but their hearts hold the same warmth Angel’s does. And they are family to him. They’re as loyal as can be and Callie is eternally grateful that Angel gets to have these two in his life.
This life, the one Angel leads, is dangerous. Callie knew that the moment she first stepped foot onto the yard of the clubhouse. It’s risky and sometimes scary. But looking around the yard right now, taking in the smiles on people’s faces, the laughter and the cheers, the voices as they sing along to the music — out of tune but unbothered — it makes sense to her. It makes sense that Angel would choose this life, this family. It’s a community of people who need each other for life has dealt them shitty cards. It’s a home.
Callie had expected Angel to be a bit more distant towards her with his brothers around, she knows what men are like and honestly, she would’ve been okay with it. Angel though, he doesn’t do that shit. He has to be touching her in some way. Whether it’s an arm around her shoulder, a hand on her waist or a kiss placed softly on her head, he’s actively seeking out the physical affection and Callie relishes in it. Her man’s a soft one if she’s ever seen one.
The boys are laughing along to some silly story Coco recounts when Callie softly places a kiss on Angel’s cheek and steps op on her tippy-toes to level her lips with his ear.
“ I’m gonna go get another beer, you want something? “
Angel looks at her and there’s something in his eyes, so pure, so unfiltered, that it makes her heart beat faster. He looks at her the way every woman wants to be looked at. Like there’s nothing in this life and the next that will ever come close to her in his eyes. It’s magical almost.
“ Nah, still good here, “ he says and shakes his beer bottle that’s still half full, “ be quick though, I don’t wanna be alone. “
He’s not alone, this is a party with a shit ton of people. One couldn’t be alone here if you tried. But it’s not what he means and Callie knows, she understands. And quite honestly, Callie doesn’t want to be alone either.
“ Don’t worry, I’m a regular Speedy Gonzales. “
A genuine laugh falls from Angel’s lips, and Callie thinks that this might be one of her favorite sounds. Her grumpy goof of a boyfriend letting out a genuine laugh.
Before she can turn away from him, Angel captures her lips in another long and passionate kiss. There’s an abundance of PDA happening all around her and apparently Angel doesn’t mind if it’s them doing it either. He tastes like beer and cigarettes and warm summer nights.
With a tap on her ass Angel sends her off towards the clubhouse and Callie, though she doesn’t wanna admit it, finds a certain sense of pride once she catches a glimpse of the other women who regard her with a mix of jealousy and admiration for getting this kind of affection from Angel.
The clubhouse is stuffy and warm but there are way fewer people here and the summer air doesn’t cling to your skin as much as it does outside. The quiet is also a nice change for a moment.
EZ is leaned up against the bar, rag throws over his shoulder though Callie isn’t sure whether it’s actually being used or if it’s more for show purposes. To keep up the image of an actual, professional barkeeper.
“ Well hello ma’am, can I get you a drink? Turns out I can’t do Pina Coladas but I do mix a mean Long Island Iced-Tea. “
EZ Reyes has the best smile. There’s something boyish about him which is admirable given the things he’s gone through. Life should’ve made him bitter and to some extent, it probably as, but there’s still a sense of childlike wonder in him and Callie hope he never allows that spark to fade away.
“ Dude, I’m not that old yet! Stop calling me ma’am. Also sorry to disappoint but all I want is another beer.”
“ Thank god, my cocktails are pretty shit if I’m being honest. “ he laughs and grabs an ice-cold bottle of beer from the fridge behind him and pops the lid off before handing it over to Callie.
The chill of the glass feels good in her hand, lets her finally cool down a little.
“ You havin’ a good time? “ EZ asks and Callie is once again grateful for the Reyes family and their soft hearts.
“ Yeah, I am. It’s fun to see this part of Angel’s life. It’s not like anything I’ve ever been a part of but it’s — It’s nice. I can see why you both join. “
“ After the shitty drinks I served tonight I’m not so sure they’ll patch me in after all “ EZ jokes before opening a beer for himself.
“ Drinking on the job, man? And I was just about to offer putting in a good word for you with Angel. “
“ You got a good connection there? “ Ez plays along.
“ Mmh. I’d say so. Got a bit of leverage over that guy. “
“ Huh. And that’s entirely more than I need to know. “
Their shared laughter fills the room and for a moment Callie feels young again and weightless and like she belongs. Maybe she’s found more than just a boyfriend, maybe she’s found a whole nother family for herself and her kid.
EZ clears his troath and as Callie looks up, she can see a determined glint in his eyes. The same no-nonsense look she’s seen in Angel so many times.
“ I’m glad he has you. Angel, I mean. He’s uh — he’s my brother and I love him but I was so lost in my own head that I completely ignored whatever was going on with him and once I did notice he was in way too deep and his resentment for me and our dad and himself made it kinda hard to get through to him. I’m glad he has you. Whatever you did, he seems happy. And I haven’t seen Angel happy in a long time. “
Sometimes It’s nice to hear that you are needed just as much as you need. That you are wanted just as much as you want the other person. That you are appreciated as much as you appreciate.
“ I don’t do anything, really. He’s very easy to love. All I had to do is let myself love him. He’s wonderful and funny and his heart is too big for his own good. How could I not fall in love with him? Whatever I did for him, he did the same for me. He makes me happy too. “
“ I’m glad, “ EZ remarks and grants her a smile, “ he’s way less of an asshole since he met you. “
“ Nah, he’s still an asshole he just doesn’t have to pay to get laid anymore. “
“ Okay that’s enough, get outta here. I don’t wanna hear any of that. “
Callie’s laughter echoes through the bar as she turns to leave and just as she is about to step out into the night, her ears pick up on EZ’s chuckle as it mixes with hers.
Those Reyes boys are quite something else.
Tumblr media
The girl is blond and tall and beautiful. Her hands skim softly along Angel’s arm, touching his skin gently. And then they don’t. Because Angel pushes her hands off of him. Not in a mean way, not violently or hurtful. But with a determination. With a clear warning. A definite messages that this isn’t happening. Not now and not anytime soon.
And Callie catches all of it, the entire exchange. The pushing off, the look the “ look I have a girlfriend now “. She knows that Angel probably knows more than one of these girls more intimately then she’d like but that’s also something she signed up for. He has a past and Callie would never expect of him to deny that or make him feel ashamed for it. It’s a past she doesn’t necessarily want to think about but one she doesn’t judge him for. To see him so openly call her his though, to a girl that so boldly offers him sexual favours, that makes her feel like a goddamn queen.
“ Hey, babe “ Angel greets her a smacks a sloppy kiss on her lips before pulling her back into his side.” My brother bother you? “
“ Nah we just talked a bit of smack on you. “
“ Aw man. Baby you’re supposed to be my hype girl here.”
“ I also told him about the great sex we have regularly so … “
“ Huh. Alright then. I accept that. “
Angel takes her face in between both his hands and places his lips on hers, eager and hard and passionate and just when his tongue slips into her mouth a slap on his back makes him pull away.
One of his brothers, one whos name Callie has forgotten by now, looks at Angel with a playful glint in his eyes and a smirk on his face. “ You up for a round in the ring.”
“ The ring? “ Callie questions before Angel nods his head towards the other end of the yard where a metal fence is set up in a more or less perfect circle in order to resemble what Callie can only describe as a DIY boxing cage like the ones on UFC fights.
“ Uh — “ Angel says, eyes wandering back towards Callie. There’s a question in them and though Angel will never openly admit it to anyone, not even himself, he’s asking for permission.
Does she really want to see her boyfriend throwing punches? Not really. But it’s clear to her that Angel wants to do it, and he’s an adult man. If he finds joy in fighting, who is she to deny him that?
“ Make sure you win this fight, baby. “
“ For you, always. “
With another kiss on Callie’s lips, he follows the other man towards the cage as a crowd gathers by the fence. There’s hollering and hooting, cheers and whistles.
Callie steps up to the cage next to Leticia. The girl has a perpetual scowl playing on her face though even she seems to be a little excited by tonight’s happenings.
“ You think you man is gonna win this one? “
“ Sure hope so. “
The corners of Letti’s lips pull up into a lopsided smirk. “ From what I’ve seen he can hold himself pretty well. “
“ That’s reassuring. You good, Letti? “
Ever since her sister befriended the girl, there was something about her that made Callie wish she could just hold her and make sure she’s okay and gets the love and care she deserves. Maybe it was the mother in her speaking but Letti always seemed so lost it broke her heart sometimes.
Though tonight there’s a different energy surrounding her. She seems — happier.
Letti’s eyes wander towards Coco as he laughs along with some of the other members and then back towards Callie. “ Yeah, I’m alright. “ And for the first time since she’s met the girl, Callie actually believes those words.
Tumblr media
She shouldn’t be this turned on. Callie was never the type of girl who was overly charmed by men trying to show their physical strength by getting in fights. But god, Angel was hot. With his chest glistening with sweat and his arms raised in triumph. There’s a cut on his cheek and a bit of blood trickling from his nose but that’s about as bad is it ended for him. After pulling his opponent into a brotherly hug, complete with that part of the back thing men like to do, Angel scans the crowd for her. As he finds her, there’s a fire being lit behind his eyes. There’s adrenaline rushing through his veins and passion bubbling inside him. And when she smiles at him and motions her head towards the Clubhouse, Angel thinks he might have just died and gone to heaven.
He catches up with her on the steps leading inside and it takes all of his self control not to throw her over his shoulder and drag her inside. The way she smiles, how she fits in so perfectly with his club, his family. Whatever he did to deserve her, he’ll be forever grateful for it.
“ Look at you, champion. Good job. “ she greets him and smacks a long, passionate kiss on his lips. Warm and soft and tasting of beer and summer.
“ Told you I’d win for you, babe. “
“ Yeah alright Tyler Durden, let’s go get you cleaned up. “
“ Who? “
“ Doesn’t matter, come on. “ she says and throws him a wink before disappearing inside.
Tumblr media
Angel’s hands are wandering all over her body, touching every inch of skin he can possibly reach. He’s always been appreciative of the female body but what he has with Callie, that’s a whole different story. She’s a masterpiece, a goddess.
They’re a mess of deep breaths and kisses as they slowly come down from their high and relish in post orgasmic bliss together. Callie can’t remember the last time she’s been this free and reckless. Having sex in a tiny bathroom at a party with people just outside of the door, that was not something she’d usually do. Not since high school at least. Angel makes her feel so many things but above all he make her feel alive and in love.
As he pulls out of her and they both pull their pants back up, Angel leaves hot kisses up and down her neck and whispers sweet nothing into her ear. He’s so very gentle, so insanely loving. How anyone could ever not love him back, it just won’t make any sense to Callie.
“ Angel? “
“ Hmm…”
“ I — “ she hesitates “ — thank you. “
“ For the sex? “
“ No, you dork. For being you and for — for making me happy. “
Angel looks deep into her eyes then kisses her once. twice. three times.
“ Ditto. “
“ You up for a round two ? “
Angel doesn’t reply just throws her over his shoulder and marches out of the bathroom and the clubhouse and straight towards his car.
Tumblr media
Callie is giddy as she stands next to Angel on the front porch of her mother’s house. Her hand sits tightly in Angel’s as the morning sun shines brightly over Santo Padre. It’s a gorgeous day, all blue skies and sunshine and Callie can’t wait to enjoy the day with her man and her daughter.
“ Know it makes me sound like a sissy, but I missed the kid. “ Angel confesses and places a kiss on Callie’s head. It makes her heart soar with joy.
“ Yeah me too. It was nice getting a kid free night but I missed her too. “
Her mother swings open the door and greets them with a bright smile. One of those reserved specifically for mothers. Angel knows for sure, one of those smiles has also belonged to his mother. The ones that make you feel warm and comfortable and safe and — like you’re home.
“ Bacon and eggs are just about done, common in you two. Daisy is still asleep but I was about to wake her up. “
Angel follows the two women into the kitchen, the walls a calming light blue, the farmhouse style kitchen white and weathered. This house has seen a lot, has heard stories and secrets. Memories have been made here and Angel can’t wait to hear about all of them.
“ You go sit down, I'll go get her. I need to get some cuddles in when she’s still sleepy.” Callie says, voice radiating with love for her child, before disappearing upstairs.
“ Did you guys have a good night out? “ Callie’s mother asks while tending to the bacon sizzling in the pan.
“ It was pretty fun, missed the kid though. “
“ I can imagine. I’m glad Callie agreed to go though. She needs to take some time for herself every one in a while. She can be a mother and a woman all at the same time. “
“ You’re right about that. I’m glad she came too. She gets along real well with my friends. “
Talking to Callie’s mom feels easy, as if they’d known each other for years and even though Angel is still nervous, the way she smiles and the soft lilt of her voice make him feel as comfortable as possible in a situation like this.
“ Callie’s good with people. She has a certain kind of magic about her.”
Angel is about to agree with that statement when a sound echoes through the house that makes the blood freeze inside his veins and sends terrifying shivers down his spine.
“ Mom, where’s Daisy? Where’s my daughter ? “

How I feel towards “Jeremy” by Pearl Jam
I know I said I wasn’t gonna talk about the song, but at this point I feel like it’s expected of me to say what I think about it. So here it goes.
In technical terms, I think it's a really great song. I really like the music and I love Eddie Vedder's voice. I also find it pleasant to sing... if you can detach yourself from its meaning. I won’t hide to you that I've sobbed many many times while listening to it, because I knew about the real Jeremy. And my thoughts and feelings were always: "This is so unfair. I cannot believe he had to suffer that much, this is not right, this is not right".
I still feel that way. And I’ve felt this sadness even more intensively since I’ve started drawing about him, learning all those small details about who he was and also since I started to write my novel...  If I listen to the song I need to force myself to just appreciate it for the sake of it being a song, because if I slightly start to think about the real Jeremy and what happened to him... I feel my heart and my stomach writhing. And I can't listen to it anymore. That's when I decide to focus on other stuff - like the novel, in fact.
I find that the novel I'm writing about him can be useful even to someone like me who never really knew him. It helps me to imagine him in a better way, in a happier way. It gives me relief to make him live and have happy times and receive the help he needed, even if only through some words of a story.
A story... But isn't that what we all become, once we die? Stories?
You know, if there's one thing Jeremy taught me, is that stories change us, and you can choose yours. You can learn something from them. You can keep them in your heart.
And let me tell you one thing: if you are actually someone who cares and who genuinely loves to help people and would like to change things... don't repress that dream. Follow it. Because believe me, someone, somewhere, right here, right now, is looking for someone like you.
Be the person you needed when you were younger.

Hopefully here's a quick one! Answer whenever you like, I'd love to have your opinion on this :)) What would you say are the best live versions of: seventh heaven, kimi ga hikari ni kaete iku, hikari no senritsu, and storia?
Hi there @kalafhana!
Tumblr media
How have you been? Haven’t seen you around in a long time. I am really happy to see your name on my dash again (=^・^=)
Phew, that’s actually a tricky question because there are so many things to consider but I will try to do my best!(ง’̀-‘́)ง
Since I love “seventh heaven” and “Kimi ga Hikari ni Kaete Iku” so much I have decided to rank every single official audio/video version of those two songs. I am not really ranking these based on technical aspects (at least not entirely) because I am not knowledgable enough in that regard. It’s more of a gut feeling XD HIGHLY subjective. I don’t think a single person in this fandom would have the same ranking as me. I would be curious to see other rankings though. So everyone, feel free to share your personal rankings! Anyways, let’s get to it! 〈(•ˇ‿ˇ•)-→
seventh heaven
“seventh heaven” is one of my favourite Kala-songs but to be honest, I didn’t properly fall in love with it until 2015. Not sure why it took me so long, I guess the song takes some time to grow on people because it’s rather slow and inconspicuous. XD We actually have a lot of official audio/video footage even though I always considered this to be one of their “rarely performed” songs.
Kalafina LIVE TOUR 2015~2016 “far on the water” : I am biased. I was there in the second row. It was honestly a great experience. The vibe was just so special, I don’t know how to explain it. The girls were in a great mood and their vocals were also pretty on point.
Kalafina 5th Anniversary LIVE SELECTION: Slightly toned down compared to the other versions but overall the harmonies are quite amazing in this rendtion from their Closed Premium Live (audio only).
Kalafina LIVE THE BEST 2015 "Blue Day": Not sure what it is about this version but this was the first time the song really touched my heart. We all know that Hikaru was struggling a bit during the BEST lives but she did a well-enough job here, so did Wakana. Keiko’s vocals in “seventh heaven” are honestly always flawless.
TYPE-MOON Fes.: The very first time we got video footage of them performing "seventh heaven” so it’s special. Back then it didn’t leave a lasting impression on me but today I can look back on it and really appreciate this rendition.
Kalafina 8th Anniv. Live Album: A really nice acoustic rendition from their LIVE TOUR 2014 (audio only).
Alleluia Single ~2012 Christmas LIVE ver.~: Another acoustic rendition. Hikaru is a bit too loud for my taste here but aside from that it’s lovely too
~Lisani! LIVE-4 in January 2014~: Probably my least favourite version of the song. I don’t really like the acoustics in this one. And the mic-volumes seem to be a bit off. Wakana is too loud I think.
Kimi ga Hikari ni Kaete Iku
We all know that this is my all-time favourite Kala-song. For most fans this is a “Keiko-song” and while I do LOVE her in the verses I have to admit that it has always been Wakana’s parts that touched my heart the most (especially in the acoustic ver.). I guess at the end of the day it’s a WaKei-song, both of them shine here (which is probably one of the main reasons why I love it so much)
~Yuki Kajiura Live vol.#3 footage~: So nostalgic, so good, they were still babies back then. This almost sounds like the studio version, pretty much flawless. Almost too flawless and sterile for my taste actually, I feel like there is a lot of studio magic happening here~ Oh well, who cares? It’s by far the best version.
Kalafina 10th Anniversary LIVE 2018 at Nippon Budokan: Once again I am biased. Hearing this live at their 10th Anniversary concert was absolutely breathtaking and oh so special. I will admit that I prefer Keiko’s deeper singing but I don’t mind her cutesy voice either (because it’s her way of conveying more emotion which I appreciate). And yeah, Wakana’s voice has never been the same as it was back in the 2008 version but that doesn’t matter to me. She owns this song. PERIOD. (Note: Obviously, I was one of the people who voted for this song to be sung!) I would also like to point out that this is one of the few times where their harmonising at the end of the bridge doesn’t sound too cringey. Usually it does (or they are drowned out by some backing track).
Alleluia Single ~2012 Christmas LIVE ver.~: Keiko is ON POINT here. I realise that this is probably not Wakana’s best delivery but somehow I still love the way she sings here (there is just so much emotion conveyed in her voice).  Also, the arrangement here is absolutely beautiful. The strings in the final section always kill me combined with Wakana’s heartbreaking singing. I feel blessed because I got to hear Wakana sing a similar arrangement for orchestra during her symphony concert back in 2018.
Kalafina 5th Anniversary LIVE SELECTION: Even though this version is from 2009 it’s not actually that great. Not bad either but it doesn’t do much for me I rarely listen to it.
TYPE-MOON Fes.: I love the emotions in this one, in terms of Keiko’s parts this might be my favourite actually (which is why I would like to rank it higher) but Wakana’s vocals are quite shaky here.
Kalafina 5th Anniversary LIVE oblivious: Not my favourite because the sound of this broadcast wasn’t too great. It takes away from my enjoyment. But it’s definitely not a bad performance. Not a huge fan of Wakana’s delivery towards the end.
Hikari no Senritsu
Now we get to the really difficult part. It pains me to say this but I always skip “Hikari no Senritsu” during lives because I don’t really like the song all too much. That’s why I honestly cannot tell you which version is the best. Generally I do prefer their older live performances of it because in pretty much all the newer ones I am not a huge fan of Hikaru and Wakanas vocals in the verses and chorus respectively.
So I will just go with this super old performance here 〈(•ˇ‿ˇ•)-→
Hikari no Senritsu ~2009.12.27 @ YOKOHAMA BLITZ~
All Kala-fans are invited to share which version of “Hikari no Senritsu” they consider to be the best!!
storia
Unlike “Hikari no Senritsu”, I REALLY love “storia”. Having said that, I still don’t enjoy a majority of its live performances (especially the ones they have done on various music shows). It’s one of their most frequently performed songs and supposedly a shining example of Kalafina’s harmonies but more often than not I find myself having trouble making out that infamous harmony. Hikaru’s vocals just stand out too much in some parts of the song (not in a good way though >_<).
I don’t want to go with another ancient performance (even though I will have to admit that I do like Hikaru’s vocals more in those) so I will choose this one here since I thoroughly enjoy it〈(•ˇ‿ˇ•)-→
storia ~Kalafina LIVE TOUR 2015~2016 “far on the water”~

Thoughts While Watching SK Homecoming
I was literally smiling and laughing like an idiot while watching these wonderful amazing people and thinking of all of the memories from years of enjoying their musicals. I am so glad I bought the digital download because they deserve all of the love and support. Just a word of warning I will be spoiling what happens throughout the show so if you haven’t seen it yet and/or you don’t want to have anything spoiled for you, I would not proceed any further. You have been warned. Also, as the show is over two hours long, buckle in cause this is gonna be a doozy and I have a lot of feeling about this wonderful show.
Disclaimer: these are just my own personal thoughts and opinions as a long time fan of Starkid, please don’t come at me.
.
.
.
1. Darren is so cute with how he encourages and interacts with the crowd, you can tell how much he loves Starkid and loves the fans
2. we stan a founding knucklehead of Starkid
3. I am so proud of the musical daddies as they conduct a literal orchestra!! how far they have come!!! also, hearing all of the songs with the orchestra is such a treat.
4. I am living for Jeff Blims outfit! the eyeliner, the necklace, the vest!! honestly, iconic.
5. It is so funny to me that they had to edit out fuck from their songs, i.e. “i mean what the what”; “tiger lover”; “he porked a tiger”.
6. Did they change the octave that they were singing, because Jeff seems to be struggling?
7. I love how Jon Matteson looks the same as he did TGWDLM, he is Paul.
8. I don’t know why but the TGWDLM medley is increasing my appreciation for Jeff, previously who wasn’t really on my radar in terms of my favorite starkids, but I love his little dance moves and funny things he does
9. Robert Manion fucking performs the hell out of show stopping number and I am here for it every single time. I feel like he can’t help it and you can tell he’s into it because he can’t help but make the Hidgins face and wiggle his hips. Also, THE BODY ROLLS I AM LIVING FOR THEM !!! (@9:10)
10. Both Mariah and Jon are confirmed working boys and I love them for it. I love that Corey brought Mariah in at the end to make sure she was included.
11. Okay but Lauren Lopez knows how to perform like she knows how to work and engage a live audience. I so enjoy watching performances like this where there isn’t a wall between performer and audience because I think that that’s when she shines. I also feel like the same applies to Rob, Joey, and Darren, they are just so fun to watch.
12. How are all of these people so attractive!! I especially love Lauren’s outfit, but that’s probably just cause I love her so much.
13. I don’t know why but Brian’s “I still don't know!!” at 12:08 gets me every time.
14. Joey’s look behind him for his shadow at 12:24 while he bops kills me.
15. The orchestral swell at 13:05 with “this is the dawn” is so beautiful.
16. Lauren's arms are unbelievable, but we already knew that
17. 14:43 where Joey and Lauren walk and then turn back is so funny to me.
18. The second naked in a lake kicked in at 17:05, I got so hype. also, love that Corey took off his jacket during the song.
19. All the different faces and actions during the “fasters” at 19:54 are so good.
20. I never realized how tall and gangly Clark was until the Ani section, the boy's limbs are too long for his own good and I love it. His voice is so beautiful though!!
21. Joe calling Twisted the first-ever live-action Disney remake is iconic and no one can tell me otherwise.
22. I was legitimately afraid for the buttons on Joe’s shirt at 27:43.
23. Britney Coleman and Carlos Valdez singing 1001 Nights was a wonderful surprise and literally so beautiful, also their exit as Dylan started singing was so cute.
24. I’m kind of sad that they didn’t actually sing Twisted in the medley cause that was one of my favorite songs, but I understand that they had time constraints.
25. After 32:38, I feel like I need to watch the Lego Batman movie to see how similar it is to HMB.
26. Semi-disappointed that they didn’t do the usual choreography for the “I want to be your friend forever” part, but I respect that the handheld mics restricted them.
27. The bass or guitar or whatever in the background at 36:30 was so groovy, I was a fan of that.
28. Tbh, I didn’t really get Denise’s whole bit about how Starship is a show only for dreamers, it just felt a little off to me.
29. I’m a little bummed that Joey didn’t sing Status Quo, but I like that they gave it to Mariah and Alex who both have lovely voices. I appreciate that they had a moment to shine when they might not have because they are newer members/ only had a small role.
30. Brian and Jaime’s eye contact with the camera at 40:48 is so powerful and I’m here for it.
31. Joey mouthing the lyrics at 41:21 is so funny and I love it.
32. AJ’s little jump in the background at 43:02 is so cute.
33. Their constant need to have to avoid saying dick throughout the whole MAMD section is so good and hilarious, with so many expertly timed entrances from AJ Holmes and Joe Walker.
34. Joey saying no to the different microphones at 44:00 is absolutely artistic and fucking hysterical. It gave me similar vibes to Bo Burnham’s bit about seeing the most beautiful penis at a urinal.
35. 45:40, AJ Holmes is a delight of a man, need I say more.
36. “Do I smell?” “Pretty bad.” 45:07
37. Seeing Meredith and Brian standing next to each other at 48:49 makes my heart so happy cause this is what brought them together and now they are married and it’s amazing.
38. “We’ve written on all of the Starkid shows” 50:46, what a powerful statement.
39. I had no clue that the Starkid movie (1997) was a thing and I love that Nick just straight-up roasted it.
40. The subtitles at 52:56, dramatical instrumental music. I am here for it, I love this revamped version
41. Darren is so extra singing Goin back to Hogwarts and I am here for it. Our boy has grown so much!
42. Pulling out the glasses at 54:03 is a power move.
43. I’m not sure about how I feel about people singing along to the songs during this. I know it is supposed to be for the fans but don’t people want to just sit back and listen to how amazing these people are and just enjoy. Maybe that’s just cause I only am viewing it through a computer and if I had been there I might have felt different, but who knows.
44. 56:05, AAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!! It’s Bonnie!!! She looks amazing and I’m so happy that she’s here!!!
45. Joey trying to the clap in the ear with mic at 58:04.
46. 58:16, I love how Darren always hypes up the crowd for Lauren’s entrances as Draco, he’s done this a number of times and it makes my heart so happy how he supports his friends.
47. I love Lauren so much the way she moves across the stage at 58:57, the power stance at 59:05...absolutely incredible.
48. I love seeing Rob in the chorus cause he was a fan, he loves AVPM just as much as we do and now we get to see him up there performing one of the most iconic songs. It honestly just makes my heart so happy.
49. 1:00:12, Dylan emerging from the audience is honestly so funny to me and I love him for it. Also, I love the ongoing trope of the “welcome” getting progressively longer each time they perform the song. Bless Dylan’s lungs and abilities to sustain that note.
50. 1:03:45 Jim little butt taps are so good.
51. The saxophone at 1:04:19 is so enjoyable.
52. I like how the slowed things down for Home at 1:06:10 with Darren sitting on the stage just having a personal moment with the audience, it was really nice.
53. Darren’s hops at 1:08:45 are so adorable and I love them.
54. I know that AVPM songs are iconic and everyone loves them, but I would have liked to see them so some more songs from AVPS and AVPSY, especially since they had some time rehearse them and there would be no mic issues.
55. Yay for a Bonnie and Meredith duet, both women are wonderful and have done an amazing job as Hermione and I love them both.
56. “Art imitates life a little bit on that one”, it’s okay we love you Darren with your silly guitar.
57. I didn’t think watching this would be educational, but I now know what a litmus test is and what slant rhymes (aka really pushing it rhymes) are thanks to Darren and google, so there’s that.
58. This may be a bit controversial but I feel as though this was one of the weaker performances of Granger Danger, usually Joey and Lauren have fun with it and I love it when they do, but this time they seemed to be more going through the motions. There were good moments (i.e. Joey’s hips, Lauren sliding down the mic stand, the back and forth head turns) but overall it was just kind of eh.
59. Darren’s twirl at 1:28:36 is delightful.
60. I firmly believe that AJ has permanently memorized the fantasy monologue and I refuse to let anyone tell me otherwise, 1:31:10. Also, I’m curious if it was planned because someone in the audience calls out for it, but that might have been a plant so who knows.
61. I just realized at 1:32:20, where he’s talking about mouse wives and concubines that would be bestiality. He only shrunk his size down, he would still technically be a human...
62. Tyler Brunsman singing Guys like Potter is now kind of funny considering AVPSY and Cedric ending up with Lily in the afterlife.
63. Joe Moses face at 1:38:57 is classic Snape and I am here for it.
64. Another yay for Sidekick, this is one of my fav AVPSY songs and Joey kills it every time.
65. 1:43:19, goddamn that man can hit a high note.
66. I love the addition of Rob to Everything Ends, what a pretty song and Rob’s voice works wonderfully with it.
67. 1:44:58, Rob struggling with the mic is hilarious.
68. Classic Snape speech at 1:46:30, simply inspiring.
69. I love Jaime and we all know her voice is incredible, but something seemed off during Not Alone and at times it sounded like she was struggling.
70. 1:51:56, I don’t know if I just don’t know much about music but Joey’s make was a little off, but on another note, I think it would have been really sweet if they had let Lauren sing too so that Draco could finally add to that harmony.
71. That sick piano rift at 1:54:33, hell yeah!
72. Even though they always use Days of Summer as the closing song, I love it every time, it’s just so fun and gets me so emotional.
73. That key change at 1:56:50 tho.
74. Yay for enthusiastic but sometimes questionable fanart ;)
75. Brian and Joe recreating the ending scene of AVPM is absolutely beautiful and I am here for it.
76. The matching jackets at the end speaks to the fact that Starkid at its essence is just a bunch of friends who were theatre nerds and wanted to create something fun together and I think that's wonderful.
In conclusion: Props to whoever made it to the end of this ridiculously long post summarizing the different thoughts I had while watching Homecoming. I truly think it was something for the fans and I love them for it. I am so proud of Starkid and all they have accomplished since 2009.
I want to encourage others to continue to support Starkid in the future, maybe even by purchasing Homecoming for themselves, I would definitely recommend giving it a watch. Also, feel free to respond and let me know your own thoughts on Homecoming, I’m sure there’s lots I missed and I would love to hear what others thoughts.

is that [DEMI LOVATO]? no, that’s just [TIERNEY SUAREZ]. [SHE/HER] is [TWENTY SEVEN] years old and are an [OWNER OF DON’T FRET & MUSICIAN]. they’ve been in town for [TWO  YEARS]. on a good day, they’re [CONFIDENT & INDEPENDENT]. but watch out! they can also be [TIMID & WITHDRAWN]. [RAINBOW BY KESHA] plays in my head whenever i think of them. can’t wait to see them around Springhill!
( tw: drug addiction, alcoholism and abuse )
BASIC FACTS:
tierney madison suarez is teagan’s identical twin sister ( obvs ) !
she was born and raised in dallas, texas !
she’s the daughter of a single mother — never knowing who her father was !
she’s technically a middle child — having three older siblings, teagan, and one younger brother, carlos !
teagan has always been and always will be tierney’s favorite sibling and absolute best friend !
although the two are polar opposites personality wise, the fact that they’re twins has given them a bond stronger than anyone who’s not a twin could ever know !
tierney had a pretty shitty childhood, to say the least !
her mother was a severe alcoholic and drug addict and often brought home a number of incredibly shitty boyfriends !
both tierney and teagan were the victims of various forms of abuse — both by their mother and her shitty ass boyfriends !
being abused left tierney a very scarred and disturbed little girl, causing her to close herself off from the world !
while teagan resorted to rebellious ways to mask her pain, tierney resorted to sheltering herself from the world !
she even closed out her siblings — all except teagan, of course !
fear and trauma caused tierney to be a timid child, and subsequently, a timid teeanager !
she was quiet, well behaved, and obedient — that is, until teagan began to corrupt her !
once teagan got ahold of her, tierney began to rebel !
she went to parties, she drank before she was 21, she did a variety of drugs — she basically became teagan 2.0, but slightly less intense !
tierney and teagan often enjoy pretending to be each other to confuse the hell out of people and get a good laugh !
after graduation, tierney decided not to follow her twin sister to california, and instead making her way to colorado in an attempt to get a fresh start ( and live her own life, not the life of an identical twin ) !
while in colorado, tierney attended the university of colorado denver; majoring in business and minoring in music appreciation !
when she was a little kid, her teachers always told her that she would run her own company some day, which is what lead her to choosing a business major !
the music appreciation minor came from her life growing up with teagan however, because the duo were always quite the musical pair – be it with radios blasting their favorite songs, or singing at the top of their lungs themselves !
tierney spent her entire college life in colorado, honest just doing her best to live her best life considering she didn’t get that opportunity growing up !
eventually, tierney had enough of denver and decided to move to a much smaller town, where she could try to be herself and live a normal ( ha ! ) life !
shortly after she and teagan moved to springhill, the twins had the idea to open up don’t fret – teagan is the creative part of the team, while tierney handles all of the legal aspects of running a company.
oh, i almost forgot – tierney is as gay as they come, and she’s incredibly proud of it !
tierney has spent the past 2 or so months in africa , trying her best to step away from the craziness of the world and just give back to those in need !
POSSIBLE CONNECTIONS:
SIBLINGS - as stated above, she has one younger and three older siblings, so honestly to have ANY of those would be amazing !
TWIN SISTER - this girl is the other half of tierney’s soul. she means the absolute world to her and she would quite literally die for her if it came down to it. she’s her absolute best friend and they are literally inseparable !
SOMEONE FROM DALLAS - it’s always nice to know people from back home when you move to a new place, so that’s exactly what this person would be !
SOMEONE FROM COLORADO / UNIVERSITY - this would be someone that tierney met after she moved from texas to colorado. most likely someone from university, but could have just been someone she met around town !
A DON’T FRET REGULAR - this is someone that comes into tierney and teagan’s music store quite often. they probably have a lot of conversations, mostly about music !
TEAGAN’S FRIENDS - obviously if they’re friends with teagan, they’re friends with tierney, or at least they know each other since teagan and tierney are inseparable !
CRUSH - this one’s kinda self explanatory. it would be someone that tierney has a crush on. maybe they have a crush on her in return, maybe they don’t?
EX(ES) - this is obv self explanatory. they could either have ended on good terms or bad terms, doesn’t matter to me !
THE LOVE OF HER LIFE - also self explanatory. she could either have previously been with this person and fallen madly in love with them, or they could be strangers at the moment who are destined to fall madly in love with each other, either works !
QUITE LITERALLY ANYTHING ELSE - like i say all the time, i’m trash for plots, so throw your ideas at me !
( i will update this as i come up with more headcanons / facts about tierney, but in the meantime - like this or message me if you want to plot with my sweet child ! )

CALM First Listen Impressions
I’ve been doing these since SGFG and imma keep doing it till the day i die!!
Red Desert - OOF harmonies okay I see you !! Intro is hella soulful don’t tell me I’m about to cry ALREADY guys… okay that bass in the bg is thicccc and I’m living for it OOF AND THEN THE CHORUS HITS AND THOSE DRUMS BITCH THIS SONG IS SO GOOD ON JUST THE FIRST LISTEN Y’ALL AHHHHH and then that TRANSITION from chorus to second verse my mans ashton did not disappoint !! Guys I’m really feeling this song holy shit it’s so good. Bitch this RED in the bridge is rly TEASING ME like bitch KEEP GOING!!!!!!!!!! Low key this song sounds like it’s 90% saying “red desert” over and over but I’m not complaining issa bop and a half !!! AHHH THAT ENDING AND THEY REALLY WENT TO A LOWER NOTE THAT WAS SO GOOD if that ain’t my fave song on the album i’ll be hella shook. Rating: 10/10 obviously
No Shame - I’ve liked this song since the very first time I heard it it’s actually such a bop. I can’t wait to drive around with this song blasting in my car. I LOVE when Luke says “Go on and plaAaAaAce me” it’s so pretty!!! Rating: 9/10 I just wish the bridge had something different I’m not a big fan of sos ALWAYS doing slowed down choruses for bridges and once you notice it it’s hard to stop lol
Old Me - I wasn’t a huge fan of this song the first time I heard it and genuinely didn’t think it’d grow on me AT ALL, but even after the second listen I really liked it, and I’ve really come to appreciate, like, the fan service message behind it? And that music video just made me love it more. The thing I didn’t like initially and still am not a huge fan of is how autotune-y the song sounds. I know everyone uses autotune, but imo it’s way too noticeable in the song to the point where it sounds a little unpleasant once you catch it. Rating: 8/10
Easier - Okay to be honest, I hate this song LMAO like one time I was crying in the shower while I was listening to my music on shuffle and this song came on and I literally stopped crying to change the song and then went back to crying daskjfkaljl Honestly the verses are really catchy and I like the prechorus but god I DETEST the chorus so fucking much it’s so fucking annoying and that’s low key like most of the song,,, I don’t even wanna finish the song but imma force myself to lmaooooo Rating: 3/10
Teeth - I love the bass at the beginning I’m such a slut for thicccc basses. I also like how crisp? Luke’s voice sound initially idk if that’s like a weird thing to say lol. I also hate the chorus here but not as much as Easier and the other parts of the song def make up for it. Rating: 6.5/10
Wildflower - This song was also like Old Me to me where I didn’t really love it at first but really liked it the second time. It’s definitely not gonna be a favorite of the album or a song I’m probs gonna remember forever but I bet it’s gonna be a BOP at concerts which is always appreciated. PLUS I love that Calum is singing he has a very unique voice I think. Also side note I justopened the livestream and it’s a hot mess lmaooo Ash rly fucking fucked up and needed to move it onto Cal lmaoo here I thought I was in sync with everyone smh. Rating: 7.5/10 with room to grow with more listens i’m assuming
Best Years - Anyways moving on from the livestream mess from these kids who don’t know technology,,, oof first impressions: sounds like same vibes as ghost of you?? I love the line “I’ll build a house out of the mess” or whatever. The part where he sings “best yeeaaarrs” is uhhh kinda weird? I thought that when Luke sang this on live but I thought it might sound better on the track but lmao nah I still think it sounds awkward tbh. But the verses are cute. Oof that instrumental was so long I legit stopped paying attention dafkdasjlk OOF OOF OOF THAT PART WHEN THE INSTRUMENTS KICKED IN okay I live for that. Song is kinda short so it gives me vibes of Lie To Me + Ghost Of You in terms of vibe (not lyrics). Rating: 6/10
Side note: I open the stream and they’re?? Just talking abt the album???? What happened to group listen lmaoo okay I guess gotta do everything in isolation around here smh
Not in the Same Way - woah okay start right away I guess !! “You say go I won’t leave” oof I don’t like that lyric cause a bitch has dealt with it and it’s terrible!! Omg when they said “NOT IN THE SAME WAY” in unison I legit live for the boys singing in unison okay OMG WE FUCK WE FIGHT AFDKAKLDJKL he really just gets more blatant every album w these swears huh fdskjkl OOF THAT DRUM BUILD UP SOUNDED SO GOOD Okay this is def a song to bop to live I can’t wait !! “I’m sick of sadness you’re sick of sadness” oof these lyrics bitch…. okay this song is kinda repetitive which is making me kinda tired BUT it’s not the worst thing and I like the parts that they’re repeating i guess LOL oh WOAH that “eh eh ehh” part is kinda interesting OMG IS THAT AN ORIGINAL BRIDGE/THIRD VERSE? From *MY* 5sos?????????? OKAY I SEE YOU,,, Okay the repetitiveness is kinda rly annoying now but it’s okay I still enjoy the song for now but can see myself maybe not listening to this song much later bc of it (Rating: 7/10)
Lover of Mine - Okay acoustic song of the album icu icu “Butterfly lies chase them away” interesting I like that  “dance around the living room” 👀 oof this pre-chorus is really good I’m such a slut for good prechoruses !! Luke’s voice sounds so soothing and smooth but the drums in the background in the second half are a little? Much? I don’t know maybe they’ll grow on me… I really like the lyrics of this song, I didn’t focus completely on everything but,, dare I say,,,, it might be some of their strongest writing yet??!? Omg I love love love these instrumentals near the end esp the piano sounds so beautiful and kind of reminded me of the interlude after San Francisco. Overall I think this song was honestly very beautiful. Rating: 8/10
Thin White Lies - more bass yessss it sounds so good,, are these lyrics about depression? Ehhh not feeling this chorus at all, too much going on and it’s just not a bop and that’s my only criteria for liking songs lmaoo. This song is giving me Empty Wallets + Babylon vibes kind of? Which isn’t rly my favorite vibe in songs tbh it’s just not for me, I don’t think it’s a bad song, though. “I don’t really like me anymore” :((((( mood Rating: 6/10
Lonely Heart - That one two three was so hot ngl,,, ANOTHER acoustic song?? Okay okay interesting. WOAH WHEN THEY CAME IN together god I love that and this OH OH OH part sooo catchy yesss okay also smth I’ve noticed 5sos doing a lot: quiet beginning (or quiet verses) and loud/bop-y choruses… that’s like half the album look me in the eyes and tell me I’m wrong !! It’s the equivalent of YB being mostly normal guitar verses and then instrumental pre-choruses lmao at least this I like a lot more WOAH THAT BRIDGE???????? WHO IS SINGING THAT IS THAT MICHAEL? I literally don’t recognize whose voice that is has it been that long since I heard his voice am I tripping?? But either way that was really cool. The song overall was pretty? Plain but not at all bad and it’ll definitely grow on me with more listens. Rating: 7/10
High - last song im so sad ahhh oof that sound it sounded like Michael? And it was umm very ear orgasmic lmao weird to put two songs that start like that one after the other tho but whatever. Woah the way Luke sang “highly” was so angelic !!! This is very acoustic-y too, but it seems like it’s truly mostly the same vibe throughout. Oof Calum’s harmonies sound so good. I also like the background “Ah”s this song sounds very angelic and pretty. I really like the way he sings the lyrics like “I hope you think of me high… think of me highly” and the part after that kind of mirrors that line. Not a huge fan of the lyric saying your friends just want you to yourself oof friends don’t like imma be honest that line was kinda cringy lmaoo But this song was very pretty, though honestly I doubt I’ll listen to it much or remember it just cause slow songs aren’t my cup of tea, but I can really appreciate the song for what it is and it was enjoyable to listen to. Rating: 8/10
Unrelated: I like that the album isn’t crazy long like every other album of theirs. I much prefer concentrating on 12 great songs than making 16-20 and then inevitably them hating/ignoring a few of them cause they’re like,, way worse than the rest of the album
Average rating: Okay technically 7.1/10 BUT if you take out Easier, then it’s a solid 7.5/10
I liked a lot of the songs and I’m sure I’ll like them even more with more listens, but the only ones I really LOVED were Red Desert and No Shame. It’s honestly a fantastic album, I just don’t think it fits my personal vibe. I’m very proud of the boys!! I really think it’s some of their best work. (Besides Easier,,, she can choke 💀💀)

the 5 times you serenaded Bucky, and the one time he serenaded you. [b.b.]
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Reader
Summary: there are 5 times you sang to bucky, and 1 where he signs to you :) aka an insight on my music taste.
Word Count: 3684 (a whole ass story, y’all.)
Author’s note: this has taken me about 2-3 weeks to write. the writer’s block is strong. also, school has started for me, so maybe this’ll motivate me to start doing drabbles/shorter writings. as always, feedback is appreciated!
Warnings: some swearing, drug use (?), lowkey fluff that makes you cry, the fact that its a long ass fic?? need I say more.
The First Time
It was a total accident. No, seriously. Bucky swears on it.
No, Bucky didn’t walk in on you half-naked or sneaking out the window. He accidentally heard you sing.
You shouldn’t be surprised though, as you always had a musical inclination. Whether it be singing, humming, strumming your guitar, or creating a beat with your pencil, music had always occupied your time. Today, it just happened to be laundry day, and you were singing along to the Chain while folding your clothes.
It was a warm summer afternoon, and you had left the door to your room, so in Bucky’s defense, you weren’t technically singing in private.
And so there you were, folding some t-shirts, practically screaming the lyrics. Of course, whenever one is singing obnoxiously loud, there’s always someone that is listening.
You and Bucky are on good terms with each other and talked a lot. However, you were harboring a crush, but you simply can’t tell whether or not he feels the same. With his actions, it clearly shows that he cares deeply for you, but his words say otherwise (or lack thereof). It’d be frustrating sometimes, and your song choices would reflect that.
Running in the shadows
Damn your love, damn your lies
Bucky’s ears perked up in the kitchen, hearing the harmonies bouncing across the walls. He thought his mind was playing tricks because it was like the world stopped making noise to make room for the voice.
He placed his drink down, and slowly started walking towards the music. As he walked closer, he heard the harmonies much more clearly. Whoever was singing honestly knew what they were doing, and they were really good at it.
His steps slowed down as he realized whose voice it was when he reached the doorway. There he saw you, immersed in your laundry while you were passionately singing. He was blown away by how you sang, while also listening to the nature of the song. Something in him just a mile a minute, and now everything makes sense.
As the song ends, you turn off your speaker and turned to face the door. You gasped and drop some freshly folded shirts to the floor.
“Jesus, Bucky!” you sighed in relief, “let me know when you’re staring at me!”
Bucky couldn’t muster out an apology, he was left dumbfounded. “You… sing... Pretty?”
“Not sure if that’s a compliment, but I’ll take it,” you said while laughing. “I’m not sure how much you heard, but hopefully I wasn’t bothering you.”
“N-No!” Bucky stammered, “I heard almost everything, but it was amazing. Almost made me drop my orange juice.”
Your face softened as you walked closer to Bucky, and reached for his cheek. “Guess I’m your siren now, Buck. Come on, I’ll show you some of my other favorite ‘tunes’ to sing to.”
。。
The Second Time
Bucky had now been accustomed to the singing heard around the compound. Every time he could, he’d compliment you on it, showering accolades on accolades. And every time, your face would flush pink.
One of Bucky’s favorite parts of hearing you sing is actually hearing you sing songs that never in a million years he would consider his favorites. But sometimes, when he was too engrossed in hearing you sing, that he wouldn’t pay attention to the lyrics.
You were in the kitchen, chopping up some cucumber for your dish, the song Keeping Tabs playing in the background. This was one of Bucky’s favorite songs to hear you sing to. It was super mellow and your harmonies complimented it perfectly.
Bucky was seated on the couch, reading a magazine while Steve sat across from him, taking a super-soldier nap. Even Steve would agree that your singing would lull him peacefully to sleep.
As you were cooking, the chorus started playing and you were singing along:
I've been tripping off the tabs in my room
I don't know why, baby, but I'm feeling blue
You didn’t notice Peter walking into the kitchen, a look of confusion washing over him. “Uh, Y/N?” Peter chimed.
“What’s up kid?”
“I don’t mean to sound like a fossil, but why is Mr. Bucky singing to a song about drugs?”
You motioned to Peter to shut the hell up, but it was too late. Bucky’s eyes went wide, and simply said, “what?”
Peter started to dig his own grave, “yeah! This is like, one of Y/n’s favorite songs! I don’t get why though since she doesn’t do ecstasy.”
As if on cue, Steve woke up and just heard “y/n” and “ecstasy” and his eyes shot open.
“You do ecstasy, Y/N?” Steve half yelled, half choked.
You turned to Peter, motioned slicing across his neck, and he seemed to have shut up almost instantly.
Bucky just stood there, trying to comprehend how a mellow song could have such outlandish connotations, and just whispered: “but you sing so innocently, how can that be possible.”
You started chuckling, “Buck, it literally says it in the name.”
“I thought it meant the other keeping tabs! Like checking up on someone!” Bucky argued.
“He’s literally saying he takes an ounce of shrooms, Bucky!”
You just heavily sighed as you placed your hands on your head, and started laughing almost bordering crying. Bless Bucky’s pure soul.
Bucky speaks up. “Well, can I keep a tab on you while taking you out tomorrow? My treat.”
“Smooth, Barnes,” you chirped, “But you’re still an idiot. But I love you for it. A date sounds wonderful.”
Peter and Steve looked back at each other and back to each other.
“Suddenly I think maybe these two are on drugs.” Steve comments.
“Uh, I think the word you’re looking for is love, Mr. Rogers sir,” Peter piped up, earning an eye roll.

The Third Time
“Y/N?? Y/N??” Bucky kept repeating your name all over the compound. He knew you were out and about with the girls, but he swears he heard your laughter somewhere.
There had been an uptick of chaos and work, causing your peaceful moments of music to cease altogether. Bucky doesn’t like to admit it, but he truly does miss it. The silence has been driving him nuts.
And he knows that you’ve been extra stressed as well. He just wanted to have a nice day in and spend quality time with you. He even brought in a pot of jasmines to help destress your room. But for the life of him, he just couldn’t find you.
Just then, Bucky runs into Sam, who happens to be rubbing his temples. It looked like he was nursing a horrible headache.
“Sam! Whoa, you ain’t looking too good,” Bucky started, you all right?”
“Man, my ears are ringing,” Sam complained, “I don’t even know where it’s coming from! And what’s with the pot of flowers? Are they for your girlfriend.”
Bucky’s face flushed pink. Of course, no one knows you and Bucky are dating, but Sam knows better.
“What makes you say that?” Bucky said a little too cooly.
“You think I haven’t seen you running around the place, Tin Man,” Sam replied, “I haven’t seen you this frantic since the time you were accusing everyone of eating your leftovers.”
“The pizza was handmade, Sam!”
“Whatever. Did you check everywhere?” Sam inquired.
Bucky sighed, “I’ve looked everywhere I think she’d be, but no luck. I know she’s stressed but I haven’t seen her at the places she enjoys to destress!”
Bucky’s voice raised a little too loud for Sam’s liking, causing him to wince in pain.
Sam huffed, “look, I don’t think you’ve checked everywhere. Because I think Metallica has taken over the newly built studio, and god does my head hurt.”
Something clicked in Bucky’s head that made him run in the opposite direction, towards the music studio that Stark had built. Bucky hollered a goodbye, leaving Sam to raise an eyebrow.
“Be safe, man! And careful with your Jasmines!” Sam yelled, walking towards the kitchen, mumbling about the youth and their music.
Bucky reached the studio but didn’t hear a sound. Did Sam play a prank on him? Was it just a plot to reveal that you and Bucky are dating?
As he places the pot of flowers next to the door, suddenly, a red ‘on-air’ light flashes on, and as Bucky leans his ear against the door, he hears you go A one two three, GO!
Soundly the loud riff of a guitar opens up the song, and Bucky hears you literally scream out the opening lines:
When I get to the bottom I go back to the top of the slide
Where I stop and I turn and I go for a ride
Till I get to the bottom and I see you again
He was taken aback by a cacophony of noise when the drums started booming he almost fell back as to how loud the music was even through a closed door. As he opened the door, he really didn’t know what to expect, but all that changed when he saw a familiar someone.
There you were, hair up in a high ponytail, wearing a teal crop top and black shorts, sweating and screaming your absolute lungs out while playing the lead guitar. On your right was Shuri, who was going ham on the bass guitar, and on your left was MJ strumming along to the electric guitar, and a very energetic Ned is playing the drums at the back.
Bucky had never seen such chaos, and to top it all off, he spotted Peter running around with an ashtray that is on fire and it’s over his head.
Turns out, you were playing Helter Skelter. Bucky had never seen you this passionate over a song, let alone seen you perform. He was in awe, kind of scared, and kind of turned on.
As the song came to an end, you asked “how’s that?” which caused Ned to fling his drumsticks across the studio and shout, “I’ve got blisters on my fingers!”
You applauded your friends and told them to take a break, to meet back in 20 minutes. The kids left, Ned simply saying “this was fucking awesome.”
The studio is now completely quiet, only you and Bucky staring at each other. You, heaving breathing and coughing, Bucky wide-eyed. It’s become a tradition.
You spoke first, “like what you heard?”
Bucky was rendered speechless. “I mean, it’s music.”
“You don’t sound too sure of it,” you chuckled, walking up to Bucky and giving him a peck on the cheek. “I heard you were looking for me.”
“I wanted to take you on a small date to help you destress, I even brought you some Jasmines,” Bucky said softly, crouching on the floor to retrieve the small pot.
“Bucky... You didn’t have to.”
“But I want to because you keep blowing me away with the talent and amazing voice of yours,” Bucky compliment.
“I think of it more of anguished screaming, but that works too,” you gushed, fiddling with your guitar.
“Can... I join you in your destress screaming? Maybe after I’ll make sure you do a more desired type of screaming, eh?” Bucky suggested as he winked at you.
You smacked him on the arm, “you’re super gross, you know that? But, an offer is an offer.”
Bucky started to move in and kiss you, but at the last second, you started playing your guitar and screaming Helter Skelter again. Earning a ‘menacing glare’ from Bucky and uncontrollable laughter from you.
。。
The Fourth Time
By now, Bucky shouldn’t be surprised at the music library you have collected over the past year you’ve been dating. He has heard every song you’ve heard more than once, and can now be considered a reliable karaoke partner.
It’s Friday night, and you are ‘looking out’ for the ‘kids'. Shuri is hosting a huge house party in Wakanda, and since no one is going to be home, T’Challa had it bestowed upon you and the Avengers (with the exception of Banner and Stark) were to make sure the party was ‘safe’ and ‘sane.’ Whatever that meant.
And so now here you all were, ‘chaperoning’ the party. AKA, you, Nat, Wanda, and Shuri doing a shot-ski in the kitchen.
Vision did the honors of being the house DJ for the night, and it turns out that the microwave does have good taste in music.
The party was going strong, and everyone was having a good time. The party was 90’s theme, everyone was looking fresh out of Teen Vogue.
It was a miracle Bucky decided to ‘dress up’ for the occasion. Or rather, dress down. Bucky had on straight cuffed jeans (that you did), a white Greenday shirt, and a dark green windbreaker. Despite Bucky’s hair being on the slightly long side, he was able to execute the DiCaprio part perfectly (with some help from you).
To compliment Bucky’s outfit, you wore form-fitting denim shorts with a green striped tank. Picture Fran from the Nanny, but obviously 10 times cuter.
The party was in full swing, banger after banger was blasting. You tried your very hardest to drag Bucky to the dancefloor, but he kept his composure. You on the other, were tipsy and ripping it up on the dancefloor. Some say you battled a kid to a shuffle battle, but you can’t confirm nor deny it.
It was 1 in the morning and saw Bucky stifle a yawn. You simply asked, “Wanna call it a night?” and Bucky purposely started falling onto you, feigning a snore.
“C’mon sleepy-head, let’s head out,” you giggled. You approached Shuri and told her that you guys were going to retreat back.
“Aw no!” Shuri cried out, “Don’t be old, guys! Just one more song.”
“I think I’m tuckered out, Shuri,” you replied, “babysitting a fossil really tires you out.”
“I literally didn’t move all night, babe,” Bucky said, rolling his eyes. The two of you said your goodbyes to Shuri and started out the door. Grabbing hold of your hand, you were about to exit, and as you and Bucky were about to open the door, you heard the beat drop:
Hennessy on my lips, take a little sip
Privacy on the door, I'ma make the shit grip
All logic flew out the window as you bolted to the dancefloor, leaving Bucky in the dust. You caught up to Shuri, screaming the lyrics in unison. It was none other than My Type, your go-to dancing song.
Bucky had the most confused look he’s seen in a while, and had every right to. He never saw this side of you, much less the side where you’re twerking upside down in the middle of the dancefloor.
To be fair, it’s a really raunchy song, and after the ‘shrooms’ incident, you’ve tried to keep your song choices decent. Key word tried.
You made your way to where Bucky was standing, still very much screaming the lyrics. When the song got to Eight-inch big, ooh, that's good pipe, you looked at Bucky like he was a full course meal. Bucky couldn’t stop laughing, face flushed absolutely pink from embarrassment.
You kept rapping the lyrics and you’re pretty sure you would’ve taken him then and there. You got up all over him, albeit trying your best to give your bedroom eyes, but failing miserably.
“Babe, I really think it’s time to head out,” Bucky chuckled, trying so hard to suppress any moods he was starting to feel.
“But I wanna dance on you foreverrr,” you cooed while leaning on Bucky for support, “I wanna siIing to youu.”
“We’ll do it later, babe, promise,” Bucky said in a low voice. He saw you pout and when you wouldn’t budge, he held you over his shoulder and made his way out.
Shuri couldn’t stop cackling, and as the door closed behind the party, you simply hollered, “that’s my type, bitch, that’s my type!”
。。
The Fifth Time
There were days you couldn’t sleep. Whether it be from all-nighters, stress, nightmares, or you drink a little too much coffee, sometimes your eyes wouldn’t close. It was customary for you to just stargaze in the living room window until sleep overcame you.
Sometimes Bucky would join you. You knew how bad his nightmares got, and you be there to ease him through it. Sometimes the two of you would deliberately stay up to stargaze.
Tonight might have been one of Bucky’s worst nightmares to date. You were in the kitchen, brewing tea. Out of the corner of your eye, you saw Bucky slowly making his way towards you. Eyes filled with sorrow, bags deeper than they’ve been in a while.
You turn to him and rub his back while he breathes heavily on your shoulder. You hand him a mug and stare at him with concern.
“Do you wanna watch a movie or stargaze?” you offered, wrapping your arms around his stomach as you listen to his heartbeat steady.
Bucky shook his head and softly said, “can you actually sing a melody for me?”
It’s been a while since you’ve sung, but nonetheless, you happily agreed. The two of you made your way to the couch and took out the mattress from there. Bucky laid his head on your lap and you draped a blanket between the two of you.
You slowly began to massage Bucky’s head, and almost instantly, he started to doze off. You asked FRIDAY to play a simple beat and you started singing softly:
Last night, boy, I met you, yeah
When I was asleep
You're such a dream to me
It was R.E.M., one of your favorite songs to sing and listen to when you wanted to fall asleep. Sure enough, Bucky started to yawn and his heartbeat was slowing down. His eyes were filled with love and peace, and he couldn’t stop smiling while hearing you sing.
You kept singing along while running your hands through his hair. Moments like these made Bucky eternally grateful for your compassion from him.
You then sang your favorite verse: "I love you—who starts a conversation like that?" Nobody but I do. You startled yourself as to how quiet you said that specific part, for fear of waking Bucky up.
Bucky turned to look at you and said I love you back. Tears had formed in both of your eyes. After two years of dating, the words were uttered and things started to fall into place.
Bucky kissed you tenderly on the lips, passion growing between you too. Foreheads were touching, and you finally finished the song by singing If you can believe, you're such a dream to me.
The two of you fell asleep into each other’s arms. Morning came, and you saw the sun come up, and Bucky holding on to you.
It really did feel like a dream, and you couldn’t be more in love with him.

The One Time Bucky Sang to You
It was a warm September evening, and Bucky decided to take you out on a picnic. He argued the day was too beautiful to go to waste, so he just had to take you out.
And so the two of you went about 10 minutes down the road of the compound, where the lake was beaming brighter than ever. It seemed that someone had come beforehand to decorate the picnic area, as there was a decorated table with a floral centerpiece.
The sun was setting, so Bucky started lighting up a fire. His eyes were filled with indescribable joy.
He then pulled out a guitar that was hiding under the table and started to tune it. “I started taking guitar lessons about 2 months ago, and I wanted to surprise you!”
“Oh Buck,” you gushed, “you’re an absolute sweetheart!”
You snuggled up closer to him, and he started slowly strumming the guitar and singing:
Who knows how long I've loved you
You know I love you still
Will I wait a lonely lifetime
If you want me to, I will
You recognized the song as I Will, the first song you’ve ever taught yourself to sing and play. It was a simple love song, and here was Bucky singing it with so much pride.
You decided to harmonize with him, and seeing his eyes light up made you fill with love. Bucky ended the song and leaned in to kiss you.
“Do you remember the first time I told ya that I love ya?” Bucky spoke up as he leaned his head onto yours.
You intertwined hands. “It was when I sang R.E.M. for the first time, wasn’t it?”
Bucky nodded in agreement, “About 2 years ago, and when I tell you I felt that I really did. It made me realize that you have loved me unconditionally. Even when we first met, you had so much compassion for me, and I really can’t thank you enough. Not to mention that your voice has come down from heaven itself”
Your heart was swelling and you started to tear up, “and I can’t thank you enough either, Buck. You are my eternal sunshine, and you know how much I love to sing to you.”
“Your singing was like the light at the end of the tunnel, as cheesy as it sounds,” Bucky laughed, “everyone says you were my siren, but I shook it off. But, I truly believe it.”
“Which is why, Y/N Y/L/N,” Bucky started, as he pulled out a navy velvet box from his pocket, “would you do me the honor of being my siren until the end of time? Will you marry me?”
You started to cry and yelled an inaudible YES! as you embraced Bucky into a hug. Tears of joy streamed down both of each other’s faces, and you couldn’t stop smiling.
“Do you wanna sing Helter Skelter in the middle of nowhere?” Bucky offered as he picked up the guitar.
“For my love,” you started, “I’d sing any day for you.”

Two more parts coming today due to chapter two on my computer being extra long. Feedback welcome even if it’s just “asdfghjk”
Summary: Wren Ledden, Tommy’s best friend from high school has had a rough life and she intends to keep the nitty gritty details of her suffrage to herself until the day she dies. Only Tommy has gotten her to open up about a small portion of her troubles, and it’s only Tommy who she trusts with her life. That is until her life gets turned around sneaking into a concert one night...the same night Motley Crue is born.

Tommy and Nikki had been meeting up more and more with each passing day. At first Wren found it odd that Nikki was even interested in what two recent high school graduates could offer, but after a week of accompanying Tommy on his trips to Nikki’s apartment, Wren eased up on her skepticism.
“Just sing for us today,” Tommy whined as Wren pulled up to the curb outside Nikki’s place.
“No,” she grumbled as she switched off the Blue Öyster Cult cassette as well as the car’s engine. Wren pushed the heavy door of the car open and then allowed it to slam shut behind her as Tommy sprang from his seat, eager for today’s rehearsal.
“Why not?” he continued to pester as they climbed the stairs up to where Nikki was smoking on the balcony of his apartment building.
“Give up man,” he sighed through an exhale of cigarette smoke. “You’ve been on her ass for how long about singing and she’s yet to even hum two fucking notes.” As he reached the butt of his cigarette, Nikki lowered his eyes to Wren and leaned against the railing with that damned smirk on his face as he said, “I’m starting to believe she can’t sing.” Once again, his attempt of riling up Wren Ledden was fruitlessly met with a shrug of her shoulders and the roll of her eyes.
“I guess no one will ever know,” she sighed and took a step inside the apartment she desperately tried to keep clean. Dirt and grime never bothered her, but after living on the streets for nearly a year, Wren came to appreciate a clean home, so when Tommy and Nikki practiced, she would clean as much as she could. At first it bothered Nikki to have someone going through his home, but he quickly came to appreciate Wren’s habit, especially one night when he got out of the shower to a fluffed towel instead of the rough, unwashed one he’d been using.
“Hey, before Rick shows up, I’ve got something to ask you two,” Nikki said as he looked up and down the street cautiously. Wren got the feeling that Nikki didn’t like the band’s current, yet most likely temporary guitarist, Rick, very much, hell she didn’t care very much for him as a musician; she’d often hear Nikki complaining about Rick’s playing and even tried to give Rick a few pointers before ultimately bugging Nikki and Tommy once again about the guy from the newspaper ad. Even now as he closed the door behind him, Wren could tell Nikki was hesitant to speak in fear of Rick showing up and feeling as though he was included in whatever conversation the three were about to have. “I’ve been cutting it close in rent lately and was thinking about if you two would want to move in. Even if you say ‘no’ I’m going to have to find roommates, so please don’t make me put an ad out for some fuckers I’m probably going to hate.” That was about as nice as Nikki could put his proposition. Was it true? Partially. He did have problems meeting rent, but that was nothing new, and it certainly wasn’t something he was going fix by finding some random people to live with him. Big, blabby mouthed Tommy had let it slip to Nikki one night that Wren was technically homeless after Nikki asked why the pair always traveled with one another. He explained how she had been living with him and his parents for roughly half a year and how they’d been trying to save up to get an apartment together when Nikki extended the same offer he’d just made to Tommy.
Tommy looked over Wren’s shoulder, past the back of her head and muttered a thank you to his newest friend as he placed his hands together in a prayer-like fashion before his eyes fell back to Wren as she turned to face him. Nikki took this opportunity to shrug, as if to tell Tommy it was nothing, but deep down, something inside him was terrified of hearing Wren’s answer.
“What do you say?” Tommy asked with a wide grin on his face. “I mean, we’re here all the time anyway.” Wren turned back to Nikki and noticed Rick’s heavy breathing as he hurried up the steps towards the apartment door.
“Fuck it,” she sighed with probably the first genuine smile Nikki had ever seen cross her face. “I’m already cleaning this sty anyway.” And that was about as nice as Wren could put her acceptance. Of course, she knew Tommy had opened his big mouth about how she had been living with him; Nikki had been casting awful glances of pity her way for about two weeks now, and she was too intuitive to allow this mannerism to go unnoticed. She was, however, thankful that Nikki’s stubborn pride rivaled her own. He would never admit to having any other motive behind inviting her and Tommy to live with him, which meant no heart to heart, softie conversation was necessary—something neither of the pair were particularly good at.
For once, Nikki found himself thankful for Rick’s presence, because just as he thought he saw a hint of a heart-felt smile forming on Wren’s lips, the large, strawberry blonde excuse of a guitar player opened the door with his case in tow behind him. “Quit ogling Tommy’s girlfriend and help me, Nikki,” Rick complained as he embarked on his recurring struggle to connect his guitar to the amp that lived in Nikki’s living room. Wren rolled her eyes at Rick’s comment and Tommy sprang into action—it was always like him and his kind heart to help whatever sorry soul was in need. Nikki too rolled his eyes, but he reluctantly made his way over to Rick, who was trying to turn his guitar while Tommy and Nikki set up the amplifier.
Wren pursed her lips in slight aggravation. Tommy’s generosity coupled with Nikki’s animosity and her own tolerance toward the man was sure to cause a riff in the and if Rick became more long-term than any of the three initially presumed. In an attempt to ignore the arguing that was destined to ensure, Wren began to unpack and piece together her saxophone. It had become a habit of hers to distract herself with her own music, so she frequently practiced various jazz and concert solos she bought from second-hand music stores. Only Tommy had ever heard her play; Wren had a deep-seated fear of judgement and even deeper trust issues that manifested through standoffs whenever someone tried to listen to her play or sing without her permission. The other reason as to why she’d been seeking refuge through her instrument was to keep from subjecting her voice to ridicule.
Nikki and Tommy were amazing musicians, even if Rick slowed them down, and Wren often lost herself in their sound. She’d heard Nikki sing along to his own lyrics so many times she knew them by heart, and she constantly found herself being restrained by her own crippling anxiety. She wanted so much to be able to throw her concerns into the air and jump in to join her friends as a temporary lead vocalist, but she feared being told she wasn’t good enough—one of the many negative side effects that came from her narcissistic vicariously living parents.
As Rick began to practice the same damn progression Nikki had demonstrated three times in the past week, Wren slung her neck strap over her head and allowed her reed to dangle between her lips. With one last glance toward the band before she disappeared from their sight, she noticed an energetic thumbs up from Tommy and a desperately pained look in Nikki’s eyes once the room filled with Rick’s attempt to play metal. In his own plea for relief, Nikki locked eyes with Wren and made a bold couple of strides toward where she stood with her golden instrument hanging just below her chest.
“Do me a favor,” he said as his chin dipped down so he could whisper into her ear, “kill me.”
“Just when you’re starting to really come together as a band?” she asked as what Nikki learned to be Wren’s taunting grin spread across her cheeks.
“Better yet, call that number we found in the diner and have him get his ass over here now.” Wren could feel Nikki’s frustration against her neck in the form of choppy, hot breaths.
“Now, now?” she questioned as Nikki brought his hazel eyes to meet her perpetually stormy grey ones.
“Before I blow my brains out would be great,” he huffed before he staked off to grab his bass, making sure to give Wren the up and down before pulling his eyes away from her. That was something Wren had gotten used to, Nikki’s quick intake of her appearance. It became almost like a joke to her: Nikki would look her over really quick, maybe even wiggle his eyebrows at her, and she would roll her eyes and swat his arm. She’d been through the same thing with Tommy, so she knew that sooner or later Nikki would come to the same conclusion Tommy had: she was one of the guys and nothing more.
“I’ll see what I can do,” Wren said softly in reply before she disappeared into the kitchen and pulled the phone from its receiver. The ad had been hanging on Nikki’s fridge under a Bowie magnet ever since the night she found it, so Wren was able to punch in the number quickly as Nikki and Tommy launched into one of their songs.
“Huh?” A man’s voice grunted over the line.
“I’m looking for a loud, rude, guitar player,” she said under the rumbling of Nikki’s bass and the thumping of Tommy’s drums as they rattled the small apartment’s thin walls. “Know where I can find one?”
“I just might,” the voice responded. “Mick Mars.”
“Wren Ledden,” she responded quickly to use Tommy’s drum solo to hide the rest of her conversation from Rick’s potentially prying ears. “Can you be here in fifteen?”
“Make it ten,” Mick responded before he added a curt ‘goodbye’ and hung up. As Wren hung up the phone, she could hear Nikki grumbling as he wailed the proper progression of chords on Rick’s guitar for the umpteenth time that week. Wren laughed at her best friend’s awestruck face; she thought that after hanging around Nikki for this long Tommy would at least be a little immune to the starstruck gleam he currently wore.
Nikki’s face perked up in curious anticipation when Wren entered the room, and Tommy’s expression quickly mimicked that of their new friend. Nikki had already familiarized himself with the fact that Wren was wearing a pair of tight blue jeans with a Rolling Stones t-shirt tucked into the waistband, yet he still had to fight his instinct to let his eyes trail over her chest and hips. Wren approached him with a few gingerly strides before she raised up onto her toes to whisper in his ear, “Your boy will be here in ten,” and then sink away into the back bedroom of the apartment, leaving only hope and a fraction of an old marching band solo with the boys in the living room.
Wren’s parting notes hung in an air of mystery around Nikki’s ears as Tommy nostalgically began to play his accompanying part from the show on the trap set’s snare drum. Tommy chuckled as his mind traveled back to memories of him and Wren goofing around on their instruments, and Nikki felt a wave of yearning nostalgia wash over him as he imagined being a part of their world.
Nikki’s eyes followed Wren as she walked away, his mind distracted with thoughts of what they could be if it was him who had grown to know every part of her over the past six years, and not Tommy. He’d almost forgotten about everyone else’s presence, but he didn’t care; if simply having Wren around was enough to curb his frustration and temper, everyone else could wait on him to decompress with the imaginary ‘what ifs’ circling his head.
“What the fuck do you think you’re looking at?” Tommy’s gasp sent Nikki’s stomach spinning and he quickly pulled his attention to the people he’d been ignoring. As his eyes flicked over to Tommy, he noticed that he wasn’t the subject of the kid’s outburst. “Yo, Earth to Rick!” Ease fell over Nikki’s muscles, and he felt safe enough to loosen his grip on the fret of his bass. Normally Rick avoided Wren at all costs—both Tommy and Nikki found it hilarious how clammy he poor man became whenever Wren entered the room, but neither knew if it was due to an obviously unrequited sexual tension or a genuine fear of her.
“Nikki looks at your girl all the time, and you don’t say shit to him,” Rick retorted in his own defense.
“She’s not—” Tommy jumped from his seat at the trap set and wandered into the kitchen in search of a beer while Nikki let out a small sigh of relief over the fact that Tommy was more concerned in making sure Rick knew he wasn’t dating Wren than to address the looks Nikki often exchanged with her. However, with Tommy gone, Rick lowered his voice and moved closer to Nikki.
“Do you both hit that?” he asked softly.
“What the fuck, man?” Tommy again gasped in shock at Rick’s words, only this time he retaliated by throwing one of his drumsticks at the pudgy guitarist.
“You and Nikki,” Rick restated as he thought of a way to rephrase his question to appeal to his slightly younger counterparts. “You’re both sticking it in her, right? Like all three of you are a ‘couple’.” The man again paused as he took in the look his band mates were giving him. Tommy’s body was as still as it had ever been as his mind tried to process how Rick had come to that conclusion. Nikki on the other hand had a cross between a look of perversion as well as a smug grimace. “I mean, I’m not judging or anything if that’s what you’re all into, but how do I—?”
“Don’t even finish that question, or we’ll have to kick your ass,” Nikki grunted low enough to keep Wren from hearing him in the other room.
“Better yet,” Tommy interjected with a smirk, “we could let her kick his ass.” He chuckled as his words sent a wave of crimson flowing through Rick’s cheeks.
“He’ll probably get off on it; fucking pervert,” Nikki scoffed as he watched Rick’s moderately confrontational behavior subside into total submission. Nikki’s smirk widened as he noticed the embarrassment coursing through Rick’s body. “Fuck, he’s getting a semi just thinking about it!” Tommy laughed along at Nikki’s insults until Rick rolled his eyes and made yet another attempt at the intro to ‘Live Wire.’ The other two band members stifled their laughter and rushed to hit their opening notes; all the while, Nikki toted his bass across his body in a way to block his own slowly growing erection as his mind went down the dangerous path that was Wren Ledden.
Within seconds of the song’s opening notes, or rather Nikki and Tommy’s opening notes, since Wren could hardly hear Rick over them, she reappeared, curious to see if Rick could nail the proper chords, but also interested in watching the pure look of ecstasy overwhelm her best friend whenever he performed, and the grimace of irritation that always flooded Nikki’s face during Rick’s performance of ‘Live Wire’. Not even fifteen seconds into the song, Nikki had his hand held up in an attempt to silence Tommy and Rick’s instruments.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa,” he called out, his eyes fixed on Rick. “What the fuck, dude? That’s not what I showed you, man!”
“Yeah, I know but,” Rick took a small pause as if evaluating his tone before he continued, “it’s not like anything I’ve ever played before.”
Nikki’s eyes widened as he looked past Rick to Wren with disbelief radiating from his posture. In an exasperated sigh, both Nikki and Wren muttered, “That’s the point,” in response to the sad excuse Rick had offered, subsequently forcing him to hear their complaint in surround sound. “Let’s just take a break,” Nikki sighed as Wren walked past the band. She pinched the bridge of her nose and quickly exited the apartment with Nikki at her heels and Tommy following him.
“You’re overpowering him,” Wren muttered as she sipped on a fresh, cold bottle of beer.
“I’m hardly playing,” Nikki snapped back, crossed his arms over his chest, and leaned against the outside wall of the apartment. Wren offered him a sip her drink and he took the bottle eagerly. As he pressed the cool glass to his mouth, the taste of peppermint lingered on his lips from the residue of her Chapstick, and suddenly the anxious ache that manifested in the pit of his stomach when he initially thought Tommy was snapping at him for staring at Wren was back.
“Come on, he’s trying,” Tommy said in an attempt to ease tension.
“It just doesn’t feel right,” Nikki murmured to no one in particular as he handed Wren her drink, careful to not graze her fingers in the process.
“He’s a rhythm guy, anyway. We’ll sound better when we find a lead.” Tommy lit a smoke and they both watched as Wren took three large gulps in an attempt to quickly finish her drink. As she pulled the bottle away from her lips, she watched as a faded orange piece of shit pulled up to the curb in front of Nikki’s apartment.
“Holy shit,” he said with a laugh as Wren shoved the beer bottle into his hands.
“Check this dude out,” Tommy commented as he skipped down the stairs to help the man unload his car with Wren not far behind him.
“Ask and you shall receive,” she teased as she glanced upward at Nikki from where she stood below him on the steps. He couldn’t help the thin smile that overcame his face as he watched her bound down the steps, and he again tried to suppress the feeling that came over him as he watched Wren’s fingers comb through her long brown hair as it fell down her back.
At the bottom of the steps, Tommy grabbed hold of the stranger’s amplifier as Wren helped him ease it out of the trunk. Nikki maintained eye contact with the man who had pulled himself from the driver’s seat, and began to make his way down the steps as well with a slow saunter in his step.
“I got a call from Wren,” the man who had introduced himself on the phone as Mick said as the two youngest people—a tall gangly boy and a plainly dressed girl—immediately heaved his amp from the trunk of his car.
“That’s Wren.” Tommy took one of his hands off the amp to point at the girl across from him, only to receive a grunt of irritation from her followed by swift chastisement.
“Both hands, Tommy,” Wren huffed as she heaved the amp up onto her hip during Tommy’s lackadaisical assistance. “Even though I’m already carrying most of the damn thing.” Her final comment earned a small chuckle from Mick, which was probably the first facial expression he shared besides the foreboding scowl that seemed to permanently rest over his face. Wren brought her eyes to the man again. He was older--not old by any means--than she and Tommy were, and probably even slightly older than Nikki. He had pale skin with frown lines framing his lips, dark, overly teased hair that seemed to match Nikki’s, and wore smudged eyeliner around his pale blue eyes.
“I’m Tommy, the drummer,” the youngest man introduced himself.
“You’re a little scrawny for a drummer,” Mick stated, his voice dry and outwardly indifferent. A laughing smirk rose to the girl’s face as she continued to listen to Mick drag her friend about his size and previous performing acts. Anyone who could shoot the shit with Tommy and get him as riled up as she could was a solid character in her book, so she gave him a kind smile once the trio reached the top of the stairs and Mick tenderly took over the tedious task of carrying the amp indoors and setting it up.
“I’ve got a good feeling about this guy,” Wren said as she heard Nikki’s boots thump against the stairs the closer he grew to her position in front of his apartment.
“I bet you do,” Nikki said in a sultry voice as he bit his lower lip, gently thrust his hips against the air, and then moaned. Wren rolled her eyes shoved her palms against the part of Nikki’s chest that was covered up by his tucked in, black button up shirt.
“Shut the fuck up, Sixx,” Wren laughed as she pulled the bottle from his hands, tipped her head back, and finished off the bottle.
“Is that why you and Tommy aren’t a thing?” he pestered as Wren continued to narrow her eyes at him. “You like ‘em old?” Again, Wren slapped his chest and narrowed her eyes at him.
“-er. Old-er,” she specified.
Boys her own age weren’t interesting and had little to offer in any respect: financial, worldly experience, emotional support, sexual prowess, you name it. Not that her sexual or dating preference mattered in the least considering no one was ever interested in her. She’d spent her life as one of the guys—a bro with boobs, Tommy with tits. Romantic relationships weren’t a strong suit for Wren so she avoided them as much as she could, leading to most of her relationships with guys to become what she has with Tommy, except on a much smaller scale. Tommy was a brother to her, and she could never imagine getting as close with anyone else. He knew her at her ups and downs, he stayed by her side through the good and the bad, and she had done the same for him. Nothing could separate them, and she’d be damned if anyone ever tried to. But Nikki would never understand Tommy’s ability to be so emotionally and physically close to Wren and not feel something for her. Even now, standing outside of what is technically their apartment, Nikki couldn’t fathom how Tommy has woken up to see Wren in his home, fallen asleep knowing she was a two second walk away, and not want to at least know what it’s like to kiss her. Hell, he’d wanted to lean down and figure that out the moment she wised up to him in the men’s room. If he didn’t have a semblance of self-control, he’d do it now; but Tommy was watching them, Mick was waiting, and Rick had been suspicious of him from the second he saw the way Nikki’s eyes landed on Wren whenever she wasn’t looking.
“Older, not old,” she recapped as Nikki generously took the empty bottle away from where Wren’s nervous fingers were spinning it.
“I’m older, y’know,” Nikki said as he puffed out his chest, arranging himself into the same upright posture he’d stood over her in during their meeting in the bathroom. Wren took notice of Nikki’s changed demeanor and pretended to give Mick the same up and down examination she knew Nikki gave her.
“Mick’s not old though,” she said as an addendum to her previous comment. The arrogant smile over Nikki’s face fell and a small laugh escaped his lips--the first true laugh Wren had heard from the man since meeting him. She couldn’t help but smile upon realizing she was the reason such a kind and gentle noise came from such a dark and brooding man.
With a cocky smirk, Nikki turned around and slung his arm over Wren’s shoulders and took a step toward the open apartment door. It took a week for Wren to grow accustom to Nikki’s protective gestures, and another week afterwards when she discovered he only acted this way whenever he felt threatened in some way. Tommy only acted protective over Wren when he felt she’d gotten herself into a dangerous situation, or if some creep was trying to cop a feel. Nikki was different. Whenever someone passed him a sideways glare, commented on his outward appearance or attitude, or did something that would make Wren feel like shit had she been on the receiving end, Nikki would slip an arm around her or look into her eyes for a moment longer than he normally would.
She was certain Nikki didn’t know she knew about this, and in all honesty, she wasn’t sure he knew why he felt drawn to her in these moments of vulnerability. When she first figured out what he was doing, she felt strange; it was awkward for her to even consider she was a lightning rod for someone. How could she, of all people, be the person another human being felt safe enough around and had enough trust in to ground them in moments of stress? Regardless of her disbelief, in this moment, as they entered the apartment together, his arm draped across her shoulders, both laughing at some hidden joke between the pair, a gnawing thought entered her mind:
He’s insecure. He’s holding you because he’s insecure. He’s insecure because of the conversation…because of the joke about Mick.
As they crossed into the threshold of the apartment, Wren slipped from Nikki’s embrace and leaned her shoulder against the door frame. Through the light raucous inside, she could hear Nikki ask Mick if he’s looked over the music yet and if he was ready to start. The man hardly skimmed the page before he plugged in his guitar and let out a low and gravely command, “Let’s just fucking play.”

Part I  Part II  Part III  Part IV  Part V  Part VI
Part VII here we go!!!
Your eyes fluttered open and for a moment, you wondered why you were on your couch. As drowsiness left you, you recalled you fell asleep with Roger. You felt so safe and warm in his arms. He slept soundly beside you. You gazed at him and then you carefully brushed his hair out of his face. He didn’t stir. You could have stayed this way forever, in Roger’s embrace with the soft morning light falling across you both. You hummed contentedly and snuggled closer to him. He reacted accordingly and unconsciously shifted to bring more contact between you. Just when you were going to close your eyes and try to sleep some more, your phone rang.
Roger lifted his head groggily, irritation turning his mouth down. He grumbled something along the lines of “fuck that” under his breath and then held you tighter. You giggled and shoved him off of you. He groaned in protest.
“Don’t worry, I’ll come right back,” you said as you walked over to pick up the receiver. “Hello?”
“Y/N!” came Jack’s chipper voice on the other end. “I’m surprised you’re up.”
“I wouldn’t be if you hadn’t called,” you replied, annoyed. “What’s up?”
“Are you and Roger free for dinner tonight?” he asked. “I’d love to get to know him more. Plus, I’ve got some news I didn’t get to tell you yesterday.”
“Just a sec,” you told him. You called to Roger. “Rog, Jack wants to know if you want to get dinner tonight.”
“He’s calling this fucking early to find out about fucking dinner?” Roger returned.
You turned your attention back to Jack. “He says yes.”
“Great, I’ll come to your place at eight,” Jack said, “Love you!”
You didn’t get to answer before he hung up. You did the same and then headed back to the couch, taking a seat.
“That was weird,” you said.
“I’ll say,” Roger agreed. “It’s the middle of the night, why is he worried about dinner?”
“It’s eight in the morning,” you replied.
“Yeah, it’s the bloody middle of the night!”
You laughed. “We probably should get up.”
“Why?” he replied. “Have you got a date?”
“Does laying on the couch with the drummer of Queen count?”
“Absolutely,” he said with a grin, and opened his arms to you.
You fell into him and settled down.
“Thank you, by the way,” he said, resting his head on your shoulder.
“For what?” you asked.
“For waking me up last night,” he said. “And everything after.”
“Roger, you’ve been there for me through so much,” you reminded him. “It’s just what you do when you care about someone.”
He smiled a little. “Still. I appreciate it.”
“If you never need anything, I’m here for you,” you promised.
You drifted back to sleep for another hour or so. When you woke again, Roger had to go so you decided to practice your Funny Girl songs again. You wanted to be back on stage by the end of the week. You grabbed your sheet music and started your mini-rehearsal. Your voice needed the exercise.
The first song you tried was “Who Are You Now?” The words were getting to you as you reflected once again about Roger. Was he better for earning your love? Were you better for earning his? You resonated with Fanny so much more now that you had someone on whom your affections were placed, whether he knew it or not.
You felt stronger after singing. It always helped you put your emotions out into the world. It was therapeutic. It got you through your loss of George. Now it would get you through the attack by Mark and your feelings for Roger.
That night, after Roger returned and you got dressed, Jack arrived right on time. He had already picked a restaurant for dinner, which you and Roger were relieved to hear, and it was within walking distance from your flat. As you headed down the sidewalk, Roger took your hand. You intertwined your fingers with his and flashed him a sweet smile.
Jack had reserved a table already, so the three of you were seated right away. You told them you were going to the bathroom first and the hostess showed you to it. When you were gone, Roger turned to Jack.
“Jack, can I ask you something?” he asked.
“If you’re wondering if I’m single, the answer is technically no, but for you, I might be,” he joked.
Roger laughed. “I’m flattered. But it’s actually about Y/N.”
“Yeah, what do you need to know?”
Roger hesitated, wondering if he should even ask. It was a heavy question, but he felt weird asking you.
“How did she end up with George?”
“Oh, God,” Jack began. “They met in school when they were like sixteen or so. Y/N was already not on great terms with my parents because she wanted to be an actress. And then she met George and it all plummeted from there.”
“I don’t understand,” Roger said. “Why would your parents not want her to be an actress?”
“Did she not tell you?” Jack wondered. “Y/N and I were born to one of the oldest and richest families in the United States. She was supposed to marry whatever man they selected and be his little wife. She chose George - a poor kid from the wrong side of town - ran away, and married him as soon as she turned eighteen. Then she started her Broadway career and they disowned her. Took her out of the will and everything. She didn’t give a shit, though. She never wanted their money anyway.”
Roger sat back in his seat, shock coming over him.
“I guess that’s why it took her so long to move on,” he said.
“Yeah,” Jack agreed. “Until I got back in touch with her, George was the only family she had in the world.”
Before Roger could say anymore, you returned from the restroom and took a seat.
“Sorry,” you said as you placed your napkin in your lap. “There was a line. What were you two walking about?”
“Nothing, really,” Jack said, since Roger was still recovering.
You looked at him. “You okay?”
“Yeah,” he said, shaking his head. “Yeah, I’m fine.”
“So,” you began, turning to Jack. “What’s this big news?”
Jack took a sip of wine before speaking. “Don’t freak out, but, I’m getting married.”
Your mouth dropped open. “Wh...to who?”
“A very nice woman Mother and Father picked out for me,” he said. “Her name is Diane and we got the okay from her father this morning.”
“Jack...I don’t even know what to say,” you said. “Are you happy about this?”
“Of course!” he replied. “We’re gonna be so rich!”
He held up his glass to Roger, who met it.
“But, what about you? You’re not in love with her!” you cried.
“Honey, you know my kind of love will never end in marriage,” he said, a hint of bitterness in his voice.
“So you’re just going to live this lie?” you wondered. “What about Diane? Can you really give her a life?”
“Look, I’ll do my duties as her husband,” he said. “If she wants kids, fine, we’ll have some kids. I’m just gonna do what I want on the side as well.”
“You mean you’re going to be unfaithful?”
“Ugh, Y/N, you’re looking at this all wrong,” Jack groaned. “I’m going to have the best of both worlds.”
“But it’s not fair to this poor woman,” you insisted. “Jack, why can’t you just be honest?”
“Because not everyone can be as brave as you are, Y/N,” he said. “I want my share of my inheritance and if I have to play by a few rules, then so be it.”
He and Roger shared a knowing glance, but you didn’t notice. You couldn’t believe your brother was capable of something so selfish. It was all brutally unfair.
“Don’t you want to be happy?” you asked him. “Truly happy?”
“Having so much money that I can do whatever I want will be close enough,” he said. “People like me don’t get happily ever after. But I didn’t tell you this for you to judge me.”
“What do you want then?” you asked.
“I wanted to prepare you because I don’t want you to come to the wedding,” he explained. “I’m not exactly proud of this. And I don’t want you to witness it.”
“Mom and Dad told you I couldn’t come, didn’t they?”
“They did,” he admitted. “But it’s the other stuff too, I swear.”
You sighed. Then you looked at Roger. “Sorry. Didn’t mean to drag you into our family drama.”
“No worries,” he said with a shrug. “I admire your moral fiber. But for now, why don’t we just say cheers? Your brother’s getting married, and we should be happy.”
“Thank you!” Jack cried.
You held up your glass. “Cheers, Jack.”
When you got home that night, Roger helped you out of your jacket when you came in the front door. Immediately, you turned to face him.
“Was I wrong?” you wondered.
“No,” Roger said. “But neither was Jack. Not everyone can do what you did.”
“What I did?” you asked.
“I asked Jack about how you ended up with George,” he explained. “He told me about your family and that they cut ties with you over him.”
You looked down. You didn’t know why you felt embarrassed about it. It was something you were proud of. You got away from a situation that would never make you happy and reached out for happiness with both hands. You had it too. Until the Vietnam War snatched it away from you.
“I think it’s amazing,” Roger said. He took your chin in his hand and made you look at him. “You’re amazing.”
“I did what was right,” you replied. “I only want to be happy. I want that for my brother, too.”
“He will be,” he assured you.
“I hope so.”
“Are you?”
“Am I what?”
“Happy?”
You held his gaze. “I could be happier.”
“How can I help?” he asked.
“Kiss me,” you said in barely a whisper.
He did. The feeling of Roger’s lips on yours put everything else out of your mind. Jack’s marriage, your anxiety since the assault, your grief for George, everything. The only thing that existed was the taste of wine and cigarettes lingering on Roger’s mouth. He was soft at first, but after a small moan from you, he deepened it. Your fingers found their way into his hair. You broke apart for air, both breathing heavily. He leaned in so your foreheads touched.
“God, Y/N,” he sighed. “I want you.”
You put a hand on his chest and stepped back. He opened his eyes to look at you.
“I want you too,” you said. “But I can’t right now. I’m still -”
“Don’t say dirty,” he cut across you.
That was a word you had consistently used when talking to Roger about your feelings after you were attacked. He insisted you weren’t, that the only people at fault were Stephen and Mark. They were the dirty ones. But you couldn’t help but feel it. You were so violated. And you could still see the bruises in the mirror. It had only been a few days, so they were green and ugly. You didn’t want Roger to see.
“I’m sorry,” you said, your eyes brimming with fresh tears.
“Don’t cry, my love,” he said gently, pulling you close to him. “Kiss me again.”
You smiled as you obliged. You felt heat surge through your blood as your mouth moved along with his. It felt right. You fit perfectly together. When you parted again, you looked up at him.
“You don’t have to sleep on the couch tonight,” you said.
He smiled. “That’s generous. Are you sure?”
You nodded. “But just cuddling. You can wait and hope for better things if you want.”
“No,” he said, shaking his head. “I’ll hold you.”
Smiling, you led him to your room. You spent the second night in a row in Roger’s arms.
The next day, you carefully inspected your face. You called Gary and told him you were ready to come back. Then you called Jack and told him to come see the show. Roger assured you he was proud and would support you through the process of getting back on stage.
It felt great to get back in your dressing room. You got yourself ready to be Fanny Brice once again. It felt like coming home. Only now, it wasn’t empty. Because in the back of your heart, you had Roger as well. Everything was coming together at last. You weren’t sure if you’d been this happy since the day you married George.
Gary called the cast together after everyone was dressed. As you all gathered on stage, you took in his expression and your brow furrowed. He looked distressed.
“Hey, everyone,” he said, a glum tone coming over him. “I’ve got some bad news. Our show is closing in two months. They’re replacing us with Mark Hudson’s Oklahoma.”

Name: Ink Theory
Debut: Splatoon 2
You know, for all the months I’ve been writing for weirdsplatooncharacters.deviantart.gov, I’m surprised it took me this long to get to my absolute favorite Weird Splatoon Characters, Ink Theory! Now, as we all know, it is a scientifically proven fact that Splatoon music slaps. Anyone who’s played Splatoon knows that, and anyone who disagrees is a coward who has never heard of taste. How disappointing!
But can you boil down music that slaps to a science? In-universe, the band Ink Theory decided to put that to the test, blending “academic music theory with modern sensibilities” to create what, in theory, should be the jamminest music of all! So what does the jamminest music of all entail?
youtube
youtube
Being able to shred a trumpet, apparently! I did not know that was possible, but then I played Splatoon 2, and learned that everything is possible. That’s Great!
Some people, again, cowards who have never heard of taste, might say this music sounds bad, but personally this is my favorite music in the game! I love the diversity of the Splatoon soundtrack, and I love the absolute chaos that seems to unfold whenever one of these tracks is playing. Is it just me, or are matches where Broken Coral plays the most chaotic matches of them all? And by extension, the best matches?
I am glad that Splatoon has frantic jazz tracks, and even more glad that there’s a canon in-universe band that produces these frantic jazz tracks, and even MORE glad that said jazz band consists of six lesbians. Don’t believe me?
Tumblr media
Well then believe this Splatoon art posted on Valentine’s Day! That’s an entire day dedicated to romance! We have a whole triple date worth of lesbians here! It’s weird, there was an entire Nintendo Direct on that day, featuring Mario Maker 2 and a new Weird Mario Enemy, and yet somehow, this image is what stood out to me the most.
But enough talking about the band as a whole! Let’s talk about the six individual members, because they each have a whole lot more to talk about. All of this is under the cut!
Tumblr media
Name: Yoko
As the band’s trumpet player, and focus of their sound, Yoko serves as the band’s frontman, though, from what I can gather through “translating her bio in google translate,” her relationship with the other members of the band is a little bit distant. In fact, it’s not just that, it seems she just. Has depression! Her bio more or less mentions her feeling a bit dreary regardless of the weather, though nonetheless, she is always to give a solid performance on the trumpet, so that’s good I suppose!
You might notice that as an Inkling, Yoko has four differently colored tentacles, which is not really a common thing! Apparently, she has a mutation that causes her tentacles to appear different colors, which might sound cool, but it’s also likely to draw unwanted attention, and apparently, if my translations are right (they probably aren’t) leave her susceptible to atmospheric pressure.
Yeah, it’s a bit unfortunate that Yoko lives such a terrible life. They could write anything they wanted for this weird squid girl, and they decided to give her depression! But it’s not all bad! Let’s zoom in on that Valentine’s Day art!
Tumblr media
Apparently, her hat doesn’t have gibberish Splatoon characters, but actual Japanese kanji! Kanji that spell out “Karen.” And who’s Karen?
Tumblr media
Name: Karen
The band’s pianist, and from all logical evidence, Yoko’s girlfriend! While Yoko is the band’s frontman, Karen is the band’s founder, and she is (currently) the only Nautilus we’ve seen in the Splatoon universe! While squids, octopuses, and apparently cuttlefish are all pretty heavily anthropomorphized and humanoid in this world, nautiluses are more-or-less exactly the same, just larger and with longer tentacles. In fact, can we focus on that for a second? I love that Karen’s entire body is like, 85% tentacle. If she wasn’t wearing a dress, Karen would mostly just be a writhing mass of tentacles.
But Karen isn’t a nudist! She’s a pianist! One time she listened to the music of Hightide Era (another obscure Splatoon band) and said, “wow, this slaps,” and after that decided to start her own band! She graduated at the top of her class, and combined with her positive attitude, she’s been able to get a lot of moral support from her bandmates. Karen’s life is fortunately, nowhere near as difficult as Yoko’s, but she does occasionally worry about the band lacking proper motivation, which I suppose is a fair enough thing to worry about if you’re leading a band.
And this might just be me, but I feel that Karen is totally the mom friend of the group. Like, this was something I thought before I knew the names or personalities of any of them, but all official information is completely backing me up here. I mean, her name is Karen for crying out loud! If you have that name, you’re probably either a mom or a computer.
Tumblr media
Name: Bibi
Okay, let’s get this all set straight. Bibi is cooler than any of us will ever be. I mean, look at her. You could say anything you want about Bibi, and not only would she be able to blow it off, but she’d probably make you look like a fool for saying it in the first place, and to make it all the more humiliating? She does this all while playing the kazoo.
Shredding the trumpet? Playing a kazoo and looking cool? I mean, Ink Theory is full of all sorts of impossibilities, and I am here for that.
Bibi’s bio was unfortunately kind of hard to translate, but I was able to pick up that she’s the member of the band that gets the most mainstream attention, and is kind of sick of being swarmed by the paparazzi all the time. Also, she’s never struggled much financially. Oh yeah. She’s rich and fabulous. Again. While playing the kazoo. I’m usually not a fan of rich people, but I don’t know if the law legally allows me to say anything bad about Bibi. I fear the repercussions for that.
Tumblr media
Name: Aachin
Alright, so what species do you think Aachin is? Any guesses?
Three.... two... one...
Okay! Time’s up! She’s an urchin! A very specific type of urchin, actually,  Hemicentrotus pulcherrimus! No common names in English over here, I’m afraid! But if you didn’t figure it out already, Aachin’s name is really just “urchin.” Because she’s an urchin! Look at her hair, it’s based on a test of an urchin, rather than the spikes we are used to seeing, but don’t worry, if a spikier urchin is what you want, we still have that! I guess Aachin just likes to go around with a shaved head.
According to what I translated, Aachin grew up in a strict household, always appreciating contemporary music herself, but as time passed, she grew to appreciate modern music as well. Now! The last sentence of her bio actually threw me for a bit of a doozy a few months back, as after trying to figure it out like seven times with no better tools than Google Translate, I believed that Aachin had fallen in love with someone depraved! Did they seriously just put this funny urchin in a toxic relationship?
Nope! I’m just terrible at translating things. Apparently the gist of that sentence is just that she’s a bit shy and inexperienced when it comes to romance, and she admittedly falls for people who are “bad,” in some nebulous sense of the term. Are we talking like, 1950s cool biker bad? The person that corrected my mistranslation said “slobs,” so maybe she just falls in love with people who are really messy.
While it’s good that this lovely urchin is not in a toxic relationship, I still think she deserves better, on sheer account of being Aachin. She always deserves better. Even if she has it good! She deserves better. Because I love her.
Tumblr media
Name: Mayaya
Up next we have Mayaya! Mayaya is a sea anemone (not a sea cucumber as I previously believed) whose facial anatomy slightly baffles and scares me, but that’s okay, because I still love her.
Another top-of-her-class graduate, Mayaya’s own professors said she’d be best teaching music herself, but Mayaya decided she’d rather have fun making her own music, and decided to join the band! She plays “percussion,” which seems to suggest any percussion instrument other than drums and cymbals, and she doesn’t just play for Ink Theory! While Ink Theory is her main squad, she apparently freelances percussion for other bands in her free time. Which bands? We don’t know! It’s never specified! But any time you hear any percussion ever, just know it might be Mayaya herself playing.
Tumblr media
Name: Kitamura
And last, but not least, we have Kitamura, the band’s drummer, who might just be the most adorable character design I have ever seen in any piece of media ever! And that’s saying a lot, considering all we’ve covered on this blog. Urchins are hardly ever unlovable, and the little ribbons simply make her all-the more adorable, but what really draws me in here are those eyes. Now, urchins don’t technically have eyes (though their spikes can function as a makeshift compound eye) but as far as eyes go, Kitamura might have some of the most precious looking eyes they could give an urchin. They almost look scrawled on! Heck, part of me wonders if Kitamura just draws on her own eyes to look cute. It’s either that, or her eyes just naturally look like that, and I am personally fine with either possibility.
Oh! Right! Her lore! There’s actually not too much about Kitamura that we know, but we do know that she is fittingly, the band’s mascot, lives on her own, and pays close attention to her curfew. She apparently has a high singing voice also, but we never hear it because none of the Ink Theory songs have vocals. Maybe someday! Maybe someday...
Tumblr media
In the Valentine’s Day artwork, we see Kitamura getting to eat a whole lot of ice cream. Do you think Kitamura deserves that much ice cream? Because I do.
This is far from all I have to say about these characters, but there’s not much more I really can say without diving deep into headcanon territory, so I suppose that’s all for now! I hope you appreciate this deep dive into Splatoon lore, and have a wonderful day!

Kurtbastian one-shot “You Should Be Dancing” (Rated PG)
Summary: Kurt gives Blaine his newly decorated skates, along with some words of encouragement.
...
And Sebastian's there, too. (1591 words)
Notes: A follow up to 'Pride'
Part 61 of Outside Edge
Read on AO3
Knock-knock-knock
“Blaine? Honey? Can I come in?”
Blaine looks up from his scrapbook to the door, open a jar, with Kurt’s hand curled around the edge. He smiles, happy to see his best friend no matter what, but it’s hard for him to push away the melancholy he’s spent the past few hours wrapping himself in. The scrapbook in front of him is filled with pictures from his past, mainly competitions and shows he participated in at his old rink. Back then, he felt these pages were filled with evidence of a life well-lived. As long as he practiced and trained pretty much every waking moment, he was working towards a goal. Even if he didn’t get everything he wanted out of life that would be okay, because he’d have all this to look back on.
Genuine accomplishment.
But now he sees it for what it was.
One big, continuous performance.
He closes the book. Kurt hasn’t seen it yet. It’s too painful to look through by himself. He doesn’t know how excruciating it would be to open up this wound to someone else’s eyes, even someone as selfless and compassionate as Kurt.
“Sure,” he says, summoning his friend in. “Of course. What’s up?”
“Aren’t you coming to Pride night at the rink?” Kurt walks in, carrying a black satin pouch that he puts at the foot of the bed before he sits. “We’re going to be late if we don’t leave now.”
“You know …” Blaine busies himself flattening down the cover of his scrapbook so he doesn’t have to look Kurt in the eyes “… I think I might just stay here, if it’s all the same to you guys.”
“It won’t be the same without you,” Kurt says, knocking Blaine’s shoulder with his own.
“I appreciate that. It’s just I … well, I kind of imagine it’s more of a couples’ thing.”
“When I first met you at LGBTQ night at that rink in Columbus, you were going stag.”
“I know, but … being single … I think I feel it a little more now than I did back then. I had more hope about the way things would turn out, if that makes sense.”
“Yeah.” Kurt puts a hand over Blaine’s and squeezes. “It does. But if you come with us, you won’t technically be single. We’ll be a threesome.”
“Do you have to put it like that?” Sebastian’s disembodied voice groans from the hallway.
“That LGBT night at the Columbus rink,” Blaine continues, though he may have snorted at Sebastian’s remark, “it was an ongoing, once-a-month thing. But this is Pride. It feels like such a bigger deal.”
“I agree. 100 percent. And that’s why you should come! Westerville Ice-plex has never hosted anything for Pride. Not officially, anyway. It’s a turning point. They’re not just supporting us within the confines of their walls anymore. They’re letting everyone know. They’re saying it, in no uncertain terms. And you played a part in that.”
Blaine shrugs. “Not a big part.”
“Bigger than you think.”
“Still, you guys have been there the longest. You’ve put in all the time. No one deserves to be there more than you.”
Kurt tilts his head, watching his best friend run a finger down the spine of his book. “Do you think … you don’t deserve to be there?”
Blaine’s head begins to shake subconsciously even before he answers. “I think … maybe not?”
“Why?”
“Because I spent so much time pretending I was something I’m not. Seeing you and Sebastian, and the way you are together all the time, anywhere you go … it makes me feel like a coward for not putting myself out there sooner.”
“There’s no shame in being in the closet, Blaine,” Kurt says gently. “For a lot of people, it’s a survival mechanism.” He’s close to pointing out that if Blaine hadn’t stayed in the closet for so long, his father would have tossed him out sooner, maybe given him worse than one black eye. And without Sebastian to lend him a hand, where would he be right now? But it seems too cruel, especially considering how much Blaine has gone through to try and forget.
None of which worked the way Kurt had hoped.
“I’ve been leading two lives for so long, I had myself completely convinced that I was pulling it off. I thought I could split my personality down the middle – be the perfect son for my mom and dad, and also be myself, and I would never have to confront the issue. I’d be safe, and I’d never have to hurt anyone. But more and more, the two me’s started to bleed into each other, and it became so much harder to hide.” Blaine hangs his head, lifting the book off the bed and hugging it in his arms. “I miss my old life, but only because it had my parents in it. And my coach. And as much as I appreciate everything you and Sebastian have done for me, sometimes I feel like I did something wrong.”
“Blaine! You did nothing wrong!”
“If I did nothing wrong, why did my family turn their backs on me? Why couldn’t they just accept me for who I am? Why couldn’t they support what makes me happy?”
“Because there’s something wrong with them, Blaine! Their way of thinking is flawed! It’s not you! And hopefully, someday, they’ll realize their mistake, and they’ll apologize. But you’re forgetting one thing about family.”
“Yeah?” Blaine sniffles. “What’s that?”
“Family isn’t only the people you’re born into. Sometimes it’s the people you choose. You have a family. You’re a part of our family. We love you – me and Sebastian, my folks, everyone down at the rink ...”
Blaine lifts his eyes, smiling mischievously through bittersweet tears. “Sebastian loves me?”
“Of course, he does! Right, Sebastian?”
Both boys turn their attentions toward the door, but nothing happens. Sebastian doesn’t march in on cue, declaring his undying love in the bonds of brotherhood, as Kurt had hoped. What they do hear is a heavy sigh, one long enough and pained enough to earn its own origin story. “Alright! Yeah. Okay. I love you, Blaine.”
“Do you really?” Blaine sings.
Another heavy sigh, but followed by a sincere, “Yes, I do. And I want you to come with us if we don’t call it a threesome. Can we go now, please? If we don’t get there before Coach Beiste, she’s gonna get in the DJ’s cage and play all sorts of old lady Country Western music, and we’ll never get her out!”
“What do you say, Blaine?” Kurt puts an arm around his friend’s shoulders and holds him close. “You coming with us?”
Blaine nods, leaning into Kurt’s hug to make it last longer. “Alright, I’ll go. But what in the world am I going to wear?” he jokes, primly wiping underneath his eyes with his forefingers and shaking his curls out of his face.
“I can help you with that. But if you need an accessory to build around, maybe you can start with these.” Kurt grabs the satin bag from the foot of the bed and opens it. Blaine watches closely as Kurt pulls out a pair of black Edea skates – his skates - with crystal rainbows adorning the outsides.
“I was wondering where those went.” Blaine chuckles softly, setting aside his scrapbook and picking up one skate to examine it. He holds it up so the light reflects every color. “These look … amazing! Did you do this yourself?”
“Yes, I did. Because I love you. Because I believe in you. Look ...” Kurt turns to Blaine, resting both hands on his knees “… I’m not trying to pressure you. That’s not why I’m here. When you come out, where you come out, how you come out and how often - the decision is yours. And I know it’s not easy. But you’re not alone. And together or apart, we will always support you, no matter what.”
“No matter what,” Sebastian echoes, finally making his way through the door and onto the bed with Kurt and Blaine. He doesn’t immediately gather Kurt in his arms in that possessive way he does, just positions himself among them – three equal people, all on the same side. Blaine looks at Sebastian, who gives him one of his signature winks, then at Kurt, beaming with the same warmth his mother often does when Blaine goes over to the Hummel house for a visit. It pulls at Blaine’s heart to see them looking at him this way, with so much acceptance and pride.
Had his own parents been able to look at him this same way, half of this same way, as this boy he met barely a year ago and his boyfriend who hated him from go ...
If they’d had it in them, everything now might be so much different.
Blaine won’t go through life expecting things to change, but it’s definitely something to hope for.
“Alright.” He nods, grabbing his newly decorated skates and shimmying off the bed, leaving his scrapbook behind. “Let’s go.”
“Really?” Kurt says.
“Yeah. I’m ready. Let’s get our party on!”
“Thank God!” Sebastian says, rolling off the bed. “Let’s grab some burgers on the way. I’m stahr-ving!”
“Wha---Blaine, didn’t you want to change first?”
“Don’t have to. You know what they say about any outfit …” Blaine grabs his peacoat, heading Sebastian off on his way out the door. “It’s all about the shoes.”

Creed: Human Clay
Tumblr media
Well; i am back to another anniversary review and have decided to tackle Creed’s most well known album. It turns 20 years old this year and is something that is better to have off the list sooner than later. Let’s begin and see how well this album has stood the test of time!
Are You Ready? (Single): We begin with the first single and it begins with a middle eastern type melody to ease the listener in with some wonder before shifting into some standard mainstream rock riffs. The bass has a prominence presence in the mix and works with the drums to keep things moving in a pretty easygoing note. Scott produces a pretty strong delivery that is straightforward but infuses a good deal of relaxed rage in his vocals. The lyrics prove to be straightforward in a simplistic manner but retain ample catchiness to follow along to pleasantly. The chorus helps to push things along smoothly and will shape this up to be a safe pick for them to play live. So you know; i have seen this album played in its entirety before they ended their reunion era tours. As you guys can expect with this song and album in general; you are looking into mainstream rock n roll that won’t favors accessibility over complexity. 8/10
What If (Single): This next single is one of my favorites from the band and it begins with a sinister guitar melody that brings forth a pleasing sense of darkness and lurking tension. It sets itself up nice and easy before guitar riffs roar into one of the most powerful rockers on the album. Scott arrives with a full dose of fury in his vocals to grasp the listener’s attention. The lyrics are some of the album’s catchiest and provides ample sing along moments during the chorus. It moves along nice and steady with aggressively powerful drum bashing and focused guitar blasts. This track is a must see for during a live performance and showcases Scott’s vocals at the top of their game. The prominent presence of the bass in their music is a good move because it helps to prevent the band from feeling empty anywhere. 9/10
Beautiful: This track begins with a low but soothing guitar melody underneath Scott's casual opening. The guitars infuse a clever balance between cultural melodies and more muscular riffs to keep a steady balance for the listener to encounter. The drums deliver a decent show of aggression in the background to add to the muscle of the guitars without trying to absorb too much of the spotlight. The lyrics aren’t bad but do focus more heavily on a spoken word style and as such may risk leading the listener to some boredom due to its lower level of catchiness than on the last couple songs. The guitar solo produces a nicely melodic atmosphere and showcases some of Mark Tremonti’s early technicality without really venturing too far into it. 8/10
Say I: Guitars immediately begin this one off with a nice level of muscular force for the listener to feel engaged by. It still showcases those echoed middle eastern tinged guitar riffs that Tremonti was very prominent with during his early career. Scott takes on a more risky vocal style that is very firm and focused but ventures on with a lighter show of musical prominence than on the previous tracks. Because of that while; instrumentally it is an interesting piece to pick apart; it does progress rather slowly and risks leading the listener to a state of boredom. This is mainly due to a near absent focus on making the vocals or lyrics display a sense of catchiness to move along to. Still not a bad piece but more suited to being background music to set a rhythm; as opposed to deserving heavy focus. 7/10
Wrong Way: Echoed guitar melodies begin the song on a worldly yet gloomy tone that fits with a title of the track. Scott arrives with a lecturing style of vocals that gradually displays some interesting melodies without feeling the need to bring out the muscle from the guitars and drums. Despite feeling like a straightforward filler track it moves by pretty quickly and doesn’t do much to offend as it does to really be memorable to the listener. Hopefully the next couple tracks bring a little more magic into the album. This and the last track do a decent job of prolonging the listening experience for what it’s worth. 7/10
Faceless Man: More of the middle eastern riffs arrive to create the worldly feeling of a journey underway. Scott delivers some pretty melodic verses and the inclusion of acoustic riffs helps to give his vocals a nice texture that would showcase a solid live performance for the band. It stays nice and melodic and the lyrics should do well to keep the listener focused while the instrumentals maintain a soothing sense of relaxation that would be properly appreciated in this album. They do still bring some of their signature muscle later on in the song that will help it to be more well rounded track for mainstream rock fans.  This one definitely will also be a highlight for Scott's vocals due to the level of convincingly emotional power he develops as the song reaches its gradual ending. Definitely one of the stronger tracks that isn’t a hit. 8.5/10
Never Die: Guitars begin with an odd yet interesting echo melody that feels like waking up on a rough morning with a hangover. I mean that in a positive manner since i could see a humorous music video centered on that type of excess scenario. The vocals are good and deliver a good show of force while the drum bash around a bit more this time of some slightly angrier riffs. It keeps that chime like guitar melody running consistent throughout the song and even though it’s not bad; i could see a half engaged listener growing gradually annoyed due to its persistence. The lyrics on this one are decent and will deliver a decent focal point for a listener that is interested in it; Though i don’t envision many listeners in this genre that will really give the music that level of analysis. They do have some decent near-jam segments that will fluff its live appeal and shape this up to be another of the more well-rounded non hit tracks. 8/10
With Arms Wide Open (Single): Now these next two singles are signatures for the band and begin with a highly memorable guitar melody; which immediately lulls the listener into a deep state of ease. Scott arrives with a calm and assuring vocal presence that is full of reflection and growth. This can probably be easily viewed as containing some of the Scott’s most memorable lyrics of his career. That will be a major focal point in this track but the instrumentals do a pretty good job of emphasizing the emotion in Scott’s voice. I would definitely suggest checking this track and the next one out if just discovering the band or browsing the album; because it is a staple track that has endured pretty firmly throughout the years 9/10
Higher (Single): This next staple for the band as a whole begins with a reassuringly theraputic guitar melody but with a bit more power guitar wise than the last song. Scott enters pretty smoothly and provides it with a decent level of melody and power for the listener to be soothed by. The lyrics are decently strong and will be a good focal point for the listener and help to cement it as one of the band’s consistent live staples. As with the last track it is a pretty straightforward track that is honestly simplistic but emotionally compelling. It is surely to be around for another 20 years on the radio as long as 90′s era music remains played. But if Nickelback’s older work is still played then this band is a given; since both play to the same market for better or for worse depending on your personal taste preference. 8.5/10
Wash Away Those Tears: This is the longest track on the album at roughly 6 minutes long. It shifts the album back towards a more somber note verses the last two tracks. Scott arrives with a more echoed and angsty style in comparison to the previous material. As a result he is much less supported instrumentally and can leave this track feeling somewhat empty as a result. Instrumentals gradually do pick up in activity and help Scott to achieve some level of melody in his lyrics. It does gradually grow to hit the listener with a nicely climatic level of power and vocal emotion. It does help to make the long build up worth it even if its not screaming for attention. It would make for a good live piece to come across as long as the setlist flow is solid. As for the album flow its lengthy but keeps you occupied in a positive manner. 8/10
Inside Us All: This finale track starts off with a stronger sense of melodic urgency in the guitar riffs. It is soothing but thought provoking in terms of emotion. Scott arrives with a calming sense of melody that makes effective use of his lyrics to really grasp onto the listener’s need for theraputic release. As a result it has a decently fitting atmosphere for a finale track for this album. It keeps things straightforward as is typical but a continued ability to get you thinking whether its about the music itself or your own personal conflicts. 8/10
Overall album rating: 8.1/10
Well it got a fairly decent score and actually stood out as a much more well rounded album than i expected it to be. It is still what you would label as mainstream generic radio rock; but it is the better of the lot. It is lengthy but flows pretty smoothly as an overall album and does provide you with ample opportunity for reflection; which is hard to find in this type of music. I would rate it as being very mood oriented in terms of appreciation and is best suited for an easygoing day in which you want something with energy and some attempt at complexity without throwing the kitchen sink at you. I would suggest that you give it a listen when the mood feels right but play it in album sequence.
