Hi! Feel free not to answer, but is there a point where a character is so traumatized it would be unrealistic for them not to have DID or OSDD? The trauma would have to be during the years where a person is vulnerable but if it fits the criteria of did trauma could it be dishonest for the character to have different disorders if those are portrayed properly?

Just like there isn't a threshold of trauma one needs to have gone through to develop DID/OSDD, I don't think there's a threshold of trauma that guarantees DID/OSDD

Similarly, there's no criteria for DID/OSDD that goes into what type of trauma someone has gone through, because that would require the person know their whole trauma history, which is pretty unreasonable to expect of someone when their brain is trying to separate them from it as much as possible

As far as trauma and likelihood to form DID/OSDD goes, we don't currently have hard and fast rules, we just have patterns and general trends that we can follow. So no, even if your character has been through a lot during formative years, it wouldn't be dishonest for them to not have DID/OSDD

weve seen way too many stories in a row of a plural character being written in ways that just feel kind of off to us, that we now want to try and make something that does it better

what kinds of things would other people be interested in seeing in a story focused on a plural system? (and just genres and general plot ideas maybe? we still arent sure what sort of story to make yet)

current things we want to show are: blurryness, internal communication, working together for daily life, non human headmates. that isnt everything but just what i can think of now off the top of our head

Hiii we're plural but we don't have DID and we're writing a DID system. Question, how does amnesia work before you know you're plural? By that I mean, how do you explain away the gaps in your memory? The system we're writing is pre-syscovery, currently they're just sort of not thinking about the gaps in their memory because they've always had them or they're like "I must have been tired". And what is greyout amnesia like especially pre-syscovery? I assume it's more common than blackout so trying to have more of that

Before syscovery, it was exactly that: we just didn’t think about it. We were wholly unconcerned about our forgetfulness. Sure, it was stupidly annoying and distressful to forget important things, but it was Always a part of our life. As in, it was thoroughly pervasive throughout our lived experience, and we didn’t even know there were more than one of us until 2015

As for greyout amnesia, it can come in all sorts of variations, but one thing is for certain, it’s annoying. Most often, we experienced emotional amnesia when thinking about traumatic events, where it would feel like we were watching a silent film from a first-person perspective. The fear of those events would be missing, but the anger the events caused would not be, which ended up making us pretty jaded lol.

But generally, before syscovery, DID systems don’t notice switches and don’t notice gaps in their memory until after it’s pointed out that they should remember something that they don’t. The latter can also apply after syscovery, but at least you have something to blame it on lol

Holt Hyde and Jackson Jekyll would quite litteraly be INCREDIBLE for Gen 3's representation, especially when we never hear about trauma based disorders portrayed well in media

Instead of making Holt and Jackson essentially a system because of their mom, why not change that? Maybe dudes do have the Jekyll/Hyde body transformation shit, but that never came with the completely different people seen in the Gen 1 Holt and Jackson, maybe it's more like the original novella where it's two bodies one mind. The completely different people come via trauma they experience as a kid, which each manifest into different alters and physical forms, therefore, keeping them as "monsters", while not being fucking ableist for the hell of it 💀 (Plus, Mattel, if you take this idea and make it to where each alter, besides Holt, manifests as a different physical form you can make more merchandise based on each alter, and therefore more money... You know... If you ever want a "real" reason to make them a canon system...)

Like, dudes... Come on... They're literally a system. No I won't argue on this. Thank you.

Alright, so we have officially reached over 750 followers on Twitch (thank you all for that), and that means I get to give you all a little lore reveal for Terramortis.

Spoilers for Terramortis below;

Last time I streamed Terramortis, Daisy had a fall, spaced out for a minute, and came back with no memory of where they were and an uncomfortableness with using the name “Daisy” and she/her pronouns. This aspect of Daisy preferred to go by the name “E” and acted very differently then how we’d seen Daisy in the past.

Daisy had been having small lapses in memory as early as the first episode they were in, but this was the first time we saw them fully change mannerisms and demeanor in response to it.

That is because, as many of you correctly guessed, Daisy is canonically a system.

I will not be labeling them as any one specific diagnosis as I am not a medical professional, and Daisy doesn’t canonically have access to one to be able to get that diagnosis anyway. Daisy is based on my personal experiences as a system and while I do have a diagnosis, that isn’t something I want to confine Daisy to.

As much as I would love to be able to make a character that every system would relate to and see themself within, Daisy’s journey of being a system is not going to be the same as everyone else’s. It isn’t even the same as mine. But it is a careful amalgamation of many system’s stories and lived experiences combined with my own and shared with you all through the very small lense of Minecraft RP. I apologize in advance for the lack of representation in certain areas this portrayal will certainly have, and I urge anyone watching to keep in mind that each system is as varied and different and unique as each and every person, so if Daisy’s journey doesn’t match your own that doesn’t make you any less valid. It doesn’t make your experience any less real.

There is such a lack of open, clear, and truthful representation of systems in media. So when I got the opportunity to make a new character with Terramortis, I really wanted to be able to change that. Even if it’s just one character on a silly minecraft smp.

I have not been incredibly open with my diagnosis as system in public spaces, but I think in order to lend credibility and honesty to this portrayal it’s important to be candid with you all about it. I will still be keeping many things about that experience private and I’d prefer if no one draws a large amount of attention to it. But now that I’m out, I just wanna say to other systems out there; you aren’t alone. You aren’t making things up. Your experience is valid.

MY TAKE ON TWO-FACE: THE FACES OF TWO-FACE

I've been rolling with it sense and made this diagram to kinda better show key points of their personalities that I'd give them/see in Harvey Dent/Two-Face when viewing from a post-rehabilitation lens. And this is after reading and watching a multitude of Two-Face stories and also having D.I.D. ourselves. If you have any ideas or questions, we'd love to hear them. Helloo! I have an oc who is a system (if that’s how u say it..) and I wana represent correctly! I’m not one so I wana know how to represent and what to avoid

My biggest piece of advice is to remember to flesh out each alter as a person (and research... a lot of research!) As well as try not to use it soly for plot reasons. If you're only writing it in for the plot and don't plan for actual rep then don't wrote it but if you do plan for rep (which it seems you do) research and then write away (I also recommend sensitivity readers as a double checking process to make sure you don't make any obvious/avoidable mistakes. Hope this helps!

however!!!! i for a fact know that every did system had a comfort bad did representation! sorry but i don't make the rules.

mine is moka akashiya from rosario + vampire. so relatable i too have a necklace that holds back my evil alters (/j) is she horrible representation for people with did? YES! will i defend her until the day i die? ALSO YES!!!

I completely forgot to answer this-

This is a complex one to answer because there's overall trends in correlation from the studies that have been done, but imo this very likely isn't the full picture because of how new a field of study psychology is, and how much more study there could be in the realm of did/osdd and related things

That said! Generally one or more of these are present when someone has did/osdd:

Lack of emotional support during childhood

Environmental pressure to adapt instead of process trauma (such as neglect, having to assume responsibilities far outside one's own developmental range, having to deal with topics one doesn't have the maturity to deal with yet, etc)

Ongoing/cumulative trauma over the course of childhood

Natural tendency for daydreaming, dissociation, and escapism as coping mechanisms

Having survived abuse from people with mental illnesses, I know the urge to warn others to be wary of those mental illnesses. I know how often it can feel like that is your only power in life…the only action you can take against what you went through. But listen. Just because a mentally ill person caused you complex trauma, doesn’t mean you get to generalize and slander and malign every person with that mental illness.

You do not have to forgive your abusers. but you do have to heal without spreading stigma and misinformation. you do have to heal without antagonizing or dehumanizing others who are also just trying to heal. you have to help break the cycle. because nobody can heal alone.

does anyone have any (canonical) representation for Dissociative Identity Disorder that isn't SPLIT, or some sneaky shit like "well actually this person is possessed by 6 evil demons and that's why they are the way they are, not did!"

asking because, from what i've seen, DID is not represented well if at all compared to literally everything (aside some exceptions), and its kinda making me lose it
