Sweet Dreams - Malleus

Author Notes: You should know that I really thought about not posting this simply due to the stuff going on in the Diasomnia chapter. BUT! I actually wrote this before the Diasomnia chapter even started coming out in Japan and this chapter has nothing to do with that chapter. If anything, it's set pre-Diasomnia chapter. As per usual, reader is gender neutral. I hope you enjoy!

It was strange, Malleus thought. He was used to exploring the grounds surrounding Ramshackle dorm while awaiting you in the hopes that you’d join him in his moonlit stroll.

So to see you outside, sitting on your porch, and looking up at the sky all on your lonesome when he arrived was... strange.

Strange, and worrying.

It had been a fair bit of time since it had fallen dark, and you had no way of knowing whether or not Malleus was coming. After all, he had no schedule for his evening visits. Rather, he came whenever he was able.

“Child of man?” At his questioning tone, you looked over.

He frowned slightly at the blank expression on your face that steadily cleared like a sun breaking through the clouds as you registered who it was that was looking down at you.

“Hornton… Good evening,” A smile flickered across your face, but it was a weak one that barely met your tired eyes. When he held out his hand, you silently took it and let him pull you to your feet and off the porch’s steps without any questions.

“What are you doing out here?” His tone wasn’t judgmental. Instead, it was curious and tinged with concern.

But Malleus was confused.

It was strange to him that you were so obviously tired but hadn't gone to sleep and were instead outside, staring up at the night sky as if you could see something far beyond those stars that twinkled overhead.

“Couldn’t sleep,” Your muttered reply was faint, but when you looked up at him, you were wearing that same smile on your face. Like you were genuinely happy to see him but didn’t possess the energy to fully smile.

“How was your day?” The fact that you questioned him so calmly when you were in such shape, with such deep, dark circles under your usually bright eyes…. It was oddly upsetting.

Malleus frowned but answered your question nonetheless, “It was as ever, but I encountered a question that I require your assistance with.”

At his words, you tilted your head, a flicker of interest entering your weary gaze.

“Don’t humans, such as yourself, require sleep to maintain their health?” Malleus was innocent in how he phrased his question.

And rather than catching on to his meaning as you usually would, you simply blinked at him before slowly nodding, “Yes.”

Malleus hummed slightly, no longer bothering to hide his concern, “Then shouldn’t you rest? You look exhausted, Child of man.”

At his soft words, you frowned and looked away as you simultaneously pulled your hand out of his. Malleus’s frown deepened at your actions, so unlike your usually bright self.

“What ails you, Child of man?” He carefully rested his hand on your shoulder, a silent request for you to face him as he continued, “Tell me, I will make it right.”

You twisted, a half-smile appearing on your face as you reached up and covered his hand with yours, patting it affectionately as you shook your head with a quiet chuckle, “Oh, Hornton. It isn’t something you can fix.”

Malleus frowned at your words, but stayed silent as you trailed away from him and sat back down on Ramshackle’s steps in a manner suggesting that you had nothing else to give and could no longer bear to stand.

“I’ve been having nightmares.” You quietly explained, spurring Malleus into following your actions and sitting down next to you. Folding his hands together as he waited for you to continue.

“They’re about the overblots…. About if everything hadn’t worked out,” You paused, a grim expression appearing on your face, before you continued. “About if we’d lost the guys.”

You shook your head as if to clear it as your hands laced tightly together in front of you, “I know it’s ridiculous, but...”

A shudder went through your body, and you fell silent, your actions making Malleus frown once more as he registered exactly how small and fragile you looked in this moment.

“It is not ridiculous. What upsets you will never be ridiculous. But…” He paused as you looked towards him, your eyes filled with fatigue.

“Tell me, Child of man. Do you get hurt in these dreams?” You didn’t answer, but the way your entire body tensed was answer enough.

Malleus felt his hands tighten on each other, turning his already pale knuckles a bone white as he continued to watch you, “I see.”

A sigh slipped from his lips, but he straightened and stood once more, looking down at you as he did so, “Come, you must get rest.”

Your eyes were wide as your head jerked up so that you could stare up at him with something akin to fear in your eyes, “But-”

“Fear not,” A smile curved across his face as he smoothly interrupted you and offered you his hand once more. “I won’t abandon you.”

Mystified, you accepted his hand and let him slowly pull you to your feet and guide you inside, ready to support you should your weary frame collapse.

He then let you take the lead, following you up to your room, where you stopped and stared at your bed, upon which Grim was peacefully slumbering. Unaware of your current plight.

“Go on, Child of man,” Malleus smiled as you turned towards him, your gaze full of uncertainty.

 He reached out with his free hand, gently resting the back of his fingers against your cheek as he continued, “I cannot destroy the fears that plague your mind, but I can stay with you. You need not fear any harm befalling you while I am present.”

Despite his warm words, you still hesitated, squeezing his hand that was still carefully holding yours before you seemingly reached a decision, “Just until I fall asleep… You should probably head back after that.”

So unwilling to put others in any trouble. It was so like you that Malleus couldn’t fight the smile that spread still further across his face until he was grinning fully at you. Even if you could stand to be a little more selfish.

But he nodded nonetheless, acquiescing to your request just as he would agree to any other wish you had, “Very well.”

Your hand slipped from his, leaving an odd emptiness in his palm as you crept into bed, looking his way once more as you snuggled into your sheets, “Hornton?”

Malleus responded with a hum as he took his seat next to you, glancing your way expectantly as he awaited whatever you would say next.

“Thank you.” 

Two simple words. That was all it took to make the draconic fae to go still, his eyes widening before a smile that was filled with fondness spread across his pale face.

“Of course,” He paused before his gaze softened still more and warm affection crept its way into his tone, “Sweet dreams… Y/n.”

Twisted Wonderland Game vs. Novel, What is the Difference, Book 2, part 1/8

Using the game's book/chapter counting system to try to keep things from getting too confusing, as there are no chapters in the novel.

Game 2-1: The prefect has a dream.

Novel: Ace and Deuce help Grim and Yuuya repair Ramshackle Dorm. Yuuya is dreading the start of a new school week as students have been coming from other classrooms to stare at him. This conversation leads into the same dream from the game.

Game: The dream transitions to Ace, Deuce, Grim and the prefect at lunch.

Novel: Yuuya and Grim go to class where Yuuya is greeted by Ace and Deuce, but also by a Heartslabyul student. Since Riddle’s overblot, Heartslabyul students have been reaching out to him here and there.

Crewel announces the upcoming Spelldrive tournament, but Yuuya and Grim do not know what Spelldrive is.

Crewel, Ace and Deuce explain the rules of the game.

Crewel reveals that an old classmate of his from when he was a student at NRC is now a professional Spelldrive athlete.

Grim is uninterested until learning that it is televised worldwide. He becomes upset when told that Ramshackle could never qualify for the games, due to a lack of players.

A Diasomnia student starts mocking a Savanaclaw student for losing the games last year, and they argue.

After morning classes the prefect and Grim go to the cafeteria for lunch, with Grim still depressed about the Spelldrive tournament, as he wants people to see him on TV and say that he is cool.

Game: Grim cuts in line to get a menchi-katsu sandwich (grilled cheese on EN).

Novel: Grim steals a menchi-katsu sandwich (Yuuya was not there to control him). Ace and Deuce get a load of snacks from the bakery, as Yuuya is paying to thank them for helping with dorm repairs.

Novel/Game 2-2: Ruggie appears.

Novel Only: Yuuya greets Ruggie with “long time no see,” as, in the first novel, Ruggie rescued him and Deuce from a fight over eggs by fetching Leona, who called off the bullies from Savanaclaw (in the game the bullies are from Heartlsabyul).

Novel/Game: Ruggie trades a mini-an-bread (EN: a hotdog bun) with Grim for his sandwich.

Novel Only: Yuuya reflects how this might be his first time hearing of a Japanese food in this world, as the cafeteria and school store generally only carry food from America and England.

Novel/Game: Ruggie leaves, Grim is confused.

Novel Only: Grim tries to give chase but Deuce points out that there is suddenly a wall of Savanaclaw students around them. Grim is confused. They talk about Savanaclaw losing the Spelldrive match to Diasomnia last year.

Novel/Game: Ruggie brings the sandwich and some iced tea to Leona in the botanical gardens (the dialogue here is identical in several places).

Novel Only: There is more information provided in narration about Ruggie’s life pre-NRC, about why he stays so close to Leona, etc.

Awakening the Dragon : Malleus Draconia Overblot Theme

It's been now one year since Diasomnia Arc, “Ruler of the Abyss“ began...

There so many things, too many topics that I wish to talk and write about. About the tribute to Eyvind Earle's art in the esthetics and ambiance of Briar Valley. About the connections between the Arc narrative and its inspirations. About Night Faeries folk and Silver Owl Knights. About Silver, Malleus, Lilia and all the others characters... For tonight I will write down about Malleus Draconia's Overblot Theme.

When the Diasomnia Arc pre-trailer was released, some notes of Overblot Malleus's theme can be heard. The complet musictrack had been finaly revealed during the first fight against Malleus. Even with the few notes in the pre-trailer, this music really give goosebumps. It is dark, eerie, dangerous and yet graceful and noble.

Diasomnia’s Chapter is an intense turmoil of emotions and, after all that happened in the Main Story so far, I realized that Malleus Overblot's theme not just represent the Arc's climax like it had being the case for the six previous Chapter. Not just only about an epic battle music, but also about a character.

[Beware : the following post content some spoilers for Chapter 7 : Ruler of the Abyss]

Featuring song and music

There is something about Malleus and music.

In his personal data, it's say that his “talent“ is stringed instruments's practice (ref. Twisted Wonderland : Magical Archives and in game data). According to his close relatives, such as Sebek during “Harveston's Kelkkarotu“ event, Malleus appear to be a really talented musician. And yet that aspect of Malleus wasn't fully explored in the Main, Events and Personals Stories. That was just a fun fact about Malleus's hobbies outside school or his daily royal duties.

Then came the performance of Malleus longside Idia and Azul during the Symphorium in the Halloween event Glorious Mascarade : Crimson Flowers and Bell of Salvation.

It's could be logical since Diasomnia Arc and Mascrade's events released their preview trailers around the same time. But nothing could make us suspected how much deep of that aspect of Malleus's character design is important. Not just as for characterization but also a tribute from Sleeping Beauty.

But to go with Chapter 7 and the Overblot's theme, let's return to the Symphorium, during its preparation as presented in Malleus's Mascaquerade Dress Personal Story [link]. Glorious Mascarade's iconic song Let My Wish Resound ( Twst wiki's traduction [link] ), is the gift of Night Raven College's students to the invitation for Night Bell College's Symphonium and its three main singer featuring Azul Ashengrotto, Idia Shroud and of course Malleus Draconia. In Malleus's Personnal Story, the trio are gather in Diasomnia Lounge for practicing. Both Idia and Azul (and even Lilia), are amaze about Malleus's singing skills. Not just because of his tense practicing, even outside his royal education as confirm Lilia to Idia. If Let My Wish Resound had a special signification for Malleus and his character (his desire and fear about connect with the Outside World and meeting other peoples), the fact that such song, and by extension the music, resound deep within Malleus.

In Chapter 7, that particular bond between Malleus and music/song is once again up under the lightspot, and even become an major element of the narrative. Just after he took his Overblot's form and cast [Fea of Maleficent] on everyone, Malleus start to humming a lullaby. The medley is the one of Once upon a Dream, Sleeping Beauty's famous and iconic song. There is many things that need to be discussed about that familiar medley and Malleus's story and personal journey and I will in the futur write a proper and complet review about. For now, we can notice that reference make not only as a tribute to the original animated pictures movie but also to Malleus's paradoxe as a character in that very sequence, and, even if it is more subtle, in the rest of the story. Indeed he is now a Dark Fea Lord, becoming in a way Maleficient just like Riddle with the Queen of Heart or Vil with the Beautiful Queen. And yet there is that lullaby medley, that medley which took after Princess Aurora's song. Malleus is depicted as both Light and Darkness, an impression that can be found in his Overblot theme.

The Choir and the Cello, picturing a story

There is two main musical elements in Overblot Malleus' track. The Choir and the Cello.

If is true that in the previous Overblot’s theme, a kinda choir is used in the medley, but its seems to have for fonction to put some extra more tension in the music like we can see in many soundtrack from cinema or video-game, but in the others Overbolt's theme, the choirs doesn't lead the medley. The instrumental instruments does.

But that was before Vil's Overblot and Mascarade Event’s theme, where the chorus and choir became the main leading of the music. In a kinda latin language with Dies Irea's leitmotif, choir become the medley's core and identity.

In popular culture, the choir is generally used as reference to Medieval Age’s music and its esthetics, real or dreamed . From Historical productions such as in Kingdom of Heaven (a Historical Movie setting during the early years of the Crusades) to Fantasy realms Lord of the Rings’s trilogy, we can tell that kinda of music had a special power to increase emotions and ambiance in a song.

In Overblot Malleus's theme, the choir became an extension of the Dragon-Fea’s power and personality. Giving to his character so much strength and presence, just like with Davy Jones's organ and it make a tribute to Sleeping Beauty’s soundtrack. One of the particularity of this Classic Disney Animation Picture, it's one of the very few movie from Disney's Silver Age, than doesn't have song like we see it in Cinderella or in Alice in Wonderland. As explained by cinema historian, Charles Solomo, in the documentary Picture Perfect: The Making of Sleeping Beauty [link], those kind of “Broadway like song“ doesn't fit to that world made of the gorgeous detailed background designed by Eyvind Earl or the music score inspired by Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty Ballet. Only songs in the movie are Once upon a Dream and choirs. Theses ones can be found in several track in the score. One of them, “Aurora's Return/Maleficent's Evil Spell“, is in my opinion, one of most powerful and representative of that directive for Sleeping Beauty's music. At one point of track a eerie and dark voice can be heard and as its materialize Maleficent's presence when Aurora is hypnotize by the curse.

Those choir segments supporting the narrative and characterizing each protagonists. Just like it's happen with Malleus's Overblot theme !

In Malleus's Overblot theme, alongside the choir, the second main leading instrument is the cello. The using of that particular string instruments in the track make a easter egg to both Malleus’s personal talents as to Diasomnia Dorm's music theme.

Cello, as other stringed instruments, are very often used in movie, video-game or musical composition because of a rich palette of tones and sounds that those musicals instruments can create and so increase emotions. Notes created by cellos are know to be rich and deep, and how depending how it played, it can express joy and light ambiance as epic, nostalgic world, mysteries or tension and terror.

The slight presence electric guitar (recurring in the Overblot music track) give an extra sensation of danger and tension in the medley, but without shadowing the leading of the chorus and the cello. It sound like lightings bolts, and each time the electric guitar is heard it increase choir's powers in the narrative of the medley with attacking notes. Giving the feeling that we are caught into a storm.

Conjuring the Dragon

As we start listening Malleus Overblot's theme, we fall into some dark or gothic fey world, more that Diasomnia Dorm's. Despite the presence of a electric guitar sound, the music had the same feels as Maleficent's themes from Sleeping Beauty. In fact the very first notes are very similars or at least sharing the same tones than some of Maleficent's leitmotif in “Aurora's Return/Maleficent's Evil Spell“ or in her music entrance.

The musictrack is divise in five segments. First, it start with a very aery voice sound, as we can found in mysterious or dark music track and then the storms began, leading by the choir. With the cello and the electric guitar, its give at that moment (and is reinforce in game by the image of Malleus in his Overblot form), that we are facing some kind of powerful Lord or a Dark Dragon. Malleus had a very complex personality and as far we know, at his core, ins't a evil character. But he is a Dragon-Fea and he had dark powers. If someone put in danger the persons he will care about (friends, family...), he will riposte with all his might and once of thoses times where Malleus's powers are show as dangerous and dark because its are beyond mortal understanding and standard, not as evil. It's true that consequences of some Malleus's actions are terrifying because of his non-human nature and can show him as the Dragon, the most dangerous foe of tales and legends, as the storm parts of the Overblot music despict it.

And at the middle of the music track, just between the two storms part, for a brief moment a calm, noble music segment is played. Its the same medley than the rest of the track but the tone is completely different as tone and ambience from what had been previously heard, even if there is still a certain tension in it. In fact Malleus Overblot's theme where there is a such calm. Yes it's true that in Leona Overblot's theme there is a kinda of “pause“ in the music but the same amount of epic tension. It's sound like if the character taking a short break, checking if everyone is is okay before return to battle. In Malleus's if we got same general medley but the music tale an other aspect of that character, of that Dragon, at the opposite of the Dark Dragon previously depicted. In that segment, the cello leading the music instead of the choir which became calm like lamentation, giving a powerful, melancholic and noble ambiance to the music before the storm restart and end once again on the eerie voice and notes.

That melancholic noble music caught in the storm show all the balance between light and dark that Malleus carries with him during his personal journey. Give him an aura of nobility and danger as we can found it in the Malzeno's theme or Elder Dragons ( Amatsu, Alatreon or Shagaru Magala) from Monster Hunter for exemple.

Right at the beginning and at the end of the track we got some slight but clear notes of piano. Like cello, that chordophone instrument (musical instrument that use both stringed and percussion (ref, Britanica)), can create intense and emotional ambience. It's true that I wished to heard some organ note in that music track, which could fit to the medieval gothic leitmotif of Diasmonia Dorm but I think it would change the characterization of Malleus in the music track. Organs are, in popular cultures and soundtracks very very bond to the figure of the Evil Lords such as Ganondorf in Ocarina of Time or Dracula in his many adaptations from movies to video-games or it played by shady antagonists like Davy Jones or Erik, the Phantom of the Opera. Even there it's cannon that Malleus know to play organs (Endless Halloween event), it's a piano. To listen those cold and sad notes, featuring a eerie voice, as opening and ending of Malleus Overblot's music theme, give us the ton of the music but also of the character it depicts. In plus to reinforce the feeling of melancholy, its contrast with the storms that reign in most of the track. Like the calm noble leitmotif, the piano show the “softer“, tragic and lonely side of Malleus beyond his dangerous and scaring first apparence and nature as a Dragon and a Dark Fea.

As I was writing that post, I discover that during the battle between the Knight of Dawn and Maleonora, Malleus's Mother, the Overblot can be heard and that discovery make more deeper to Malleus. Making it more personal to Malleus than it's already etablished in the music itself. Far more than I originally suspected.

During the last showdown between the Knight and Maleonora ant their tragic ending, the use of the Overblot's theme don't make that scene feels like one of Maleficient in the original picture or only reflecting the way the Humans sees Maleonora. As a dark witch, a monster.

The Overblot's theme show her as royal princess, a Crown-Heir and a mother that will do everything in her power to protect her people, the persons she love and her child. Between him and his mother there is big similarities, and not just physical. Malleus had indeed inherited some of Maleonora's traits, but in his heart and his general personality, Malleus is more close to his father Lord Revan, as it's confirmed by Lilia.

"Just like his father, he is a kind person who ins't able to be ruthless“ "(Episode 7 Ruler of the Abbys Part 6, chapter 99)

At the end, that Overblot's theme not just a dungeon's final boss theme or a musical representation of the Arc's aesthetic.

Even more than Diasomnia bgm, this is Malleus Draconia's Theme. Not just his Overblot. His theme, as character, like we discover in both Diasomnia's trailer and Twisted Wonderland's Story. That music score give us more clues about who Malleus really is.

That music can be seen as the refection of Malleus's complex personality. Noble and benevolent, fierce and powerful ..

Both the Greatest Foe than the Devoted Protector.

Hi! I just want to say that I've read all of your takes on how the overblot crew don't get held accountable for what they've done and I am so happy to find another person that agrees with me.

Listen, I understand that we're dealing with incredibly traumatised teenagers who were pushed into it and overblotting was what ultimately lead them towards their healing but put aside the damage that they did during their overblot and think about how awfully they treated yuu beforehand.

Azul: took away their home and the only comfort family they had in twst (the ghosts), and sent the tweels to attack and harrass them during their attempts to get back their home and free their friends from servitude

Jamil: Kidnapped them, locked them up in a room against their will, again took away their home, isolated them from their friends/adeuce and prevented them from contacting anyone, hypnotised them and manipulated them, forced them to participate in long marches in the desert and literally turned a blind eye during their clear suffering

Vil: (he is literally my least favourite character - and yes, I do understand that he has just as much trauma and issues as the others due to his past and the pressure he puts on himself to be perfect - but I just don't like him) he was downright cruel and needlessly awful to not only Yuu but everyone else. He not only was horrid to poor Epel but he was dismissive and uncaring to the point of upsetting Deuce and making him run off so that no one would see him in that state. And that was before he tried to murder an innocent teenager in cold blood pre-overblot.

Yuu has gone through so much because of them and not once do they ever actually acknowledge the damage they've done to them. No one ever thinks: hey, maybe we should check up on that traumatised child that we've most definitely emotionally scarred and try to make amends instead of brushing their feelings under the rug.

You know why I love Ace so much? He actually calls people out for what they've done. He rightfully admonishes Trey for being a bystander during Riddle's reign of terror whilst Heartslabyul was suffering, he rightfully tells Riddle that crying won't erase the way he treated them before he overblotted (I was shocked that he had the guts to say that but I agreed with him - I stan a real one), he punches Riddle when he maliciously insults Yuu for no reason (that was the moment I fell for him. Yes I have a 5% hunch he did that also because he just wanted to punch him but the fact that it was Yuu's feelings getting hurt that made him actually lose it after everything else Riddle did to him is just everything to me), and he rightfully gets mad at Malleus when his prank made him think that his friends were dead.

I actually have a Yuu/OC that's so traumatised by the overblots that the only people they fully trust are Adeuce and Grim. They don't know if anyone that's nice to them are actually manipulative or will just use them in the future so they've developed serious trust issues and have PTSD from the actions of the overblots that they don't even look at them or greet them in the hallways. This is a Yuu that will forgive and never forget. It sounds petty and vindictive but I want them to suffer in their guilt whilst Yuu gets the support and help from Adeuce that they need.

Okay, I held off on responding to this because goddamn is it a long ask. Hold on, I gotta put this under the cut because it's too much, and my responding just makes it longer. Also, you read all the takes? That's impressive, considering I don't remember half of what I said. Spoilers for all overblots, including from the diasomnia chapter.

I'm just gonna summarize this in one simple statement. I know people aren't gonna agree, but here it is. The overblotted students deserved more punishments. As you said, yes, they're traumatized, but they were still conscious of their decisions before they overblotted. And they all did some questionable stuff before overblotting.

You literally said everything I was going to say. None of them are innocent. Even if they didn't overblot, their actions before the disaster were bad.

Idk, I feel like Yuu should be a little more acknowledged sometimes. I mean, yeah, ultimately, the characters do get close to Yuu and help them out. (1) Riddle helping Yuu investigate against Leona, (2) Leona helping Yuu get rid of Azul's contracts to free everyone, (3) Azul stepping in to help Yuu while they were stuck with Jamil, (4) Jamil getting them out of that dangerous overblot situation with Vil, (5) Vil helping fight against Idia and giving Yuu and co. a kiss, etc. But half of these felt like they had ulterior motives when they did this, and yeah, they treat Yuu differently, but we don't see that too much.

Ace is like one of the only real ones. The realest. Yeah, he was a massive jerk in the beginning, but that character development? In the beginning of the prologe, he was just being rude for no reason. But then, by the end of the prologe, he's actually begrudgingly friends with Yuu, and then towards the end of chapter one, as you said, he defends Yuu after Riddle made that unnecessary comment. Find yourself a bro like Ace (also because, as mentioned in other posts, he did not stand for Malleus' and Lilia's bs prank).

Honestly, Yuu should be super messed up mentally and emotionally by now. Probably even physically. Because of all the stuff they've gone through.

{MEMORIES BY THE BEACH} TWST x Primarina MC

The sun was shining, warm to the touch, and just right for a beach day!

You had decided to bring all your friends for a day at the beach to relax from the week you all had and also for you to be in a beach once again. Of course, your friends came and oblige the invitation to relax, who are consisted of the five members of Heartslabyul, the Savannaclaw trio, the Scarabia Duo,the Pomeifiore trio and you made sure to atleast invited your Diasomnia friends aswell! (Much to Malleus joy at being invited).

And of course, you made sure to invite your three dorm mates aswell! The Octivinelle Trio!

Despite you being a girl and have no "magic", the Dark Mirror had some how assorted you on to the dorm of the sea witch, where you had discovered why, for you are a Primarina, a dual water type and a fairy type.

The trio instantly weirded you out upon arriving at the destination of the dorm.

The Tweels, as you would call them, are always behind your back or everywhere you go in NRC.

Jade is atleast tolerable but he's smile, hidden intentions and...everthing gives you the creeps.

Floyd...oh boy....he's more expressive than he's twin when it comes to what he wants. He would always take you by suprise and tries to sneak a "squeeze" for you when you didnt expect but it would always end up with a water gun and slap on the face.

And Azul definently give Mafia Boss vibes yet....you cant help but felt like there is something else that is behind that "perfect" facade of his.

Your instincts were proven right when Chapter 3 happened but thats a story for another time!

For now, its time for a beach day!!

You giggled when you saw Jack chasing around the young prince of the Afterglow Savanah, Cheka, who had been put under Leona's care for today as per request by he's brother and sister-in-law, unfortunately.

But the sight that everyone is atleast enjoying is enough for You and that is that.

The sight really brings you back where you used to play around with your big sister in Melemele Island as you practice and trying to make big bubbles when you were still a young Popplio.

"THIS. IS. AMAZING!!"

A giggle escaped your mouth as Rotom zip and zapped all round in a speed of light to collect any information that it might not have yet about this world that the two of you are in.

It's a shame that Ortho and Idia cant come but hey, she understands that Ortho has to keep Idia company at he's lonely room.

Yet many any things truly are unseen and amazing here in Twisted Wonderland so you understand your Rotom's excitement.

"This beach is so beautiful!" Rotom commented "Almost like the beach back at home" a nod was what it received from the Primarina in agreement at the feeling of familiarity at the scenery.

"Your home?

The young Primarina look to see Cheka, still wearing he's floaty, eyeing her with those big doe curious eyes of he's that would immediately give her an heart attack at he's cuteness.

Holding back a squeal, You nodded to the young Prince "Yep. I used to live uhh..." taking a small pause to think carefully "somewhere far that is tropical so I kinda see beaches alot when I was around your age".

"Really!?" Cheka exclaim rather loudly.

"Yeah" You smiled, reminiscing all those moments back at Alola.

"No suprise"

Both you turn to see your Dorm mates and Jack agreeing with the others listening to your little conversation, curious about what is your home like.

"You almost out bested me and Jade! Little Siren here is nothing but suprises!" Floyd suddenly hugs you from behind, making you jump from the sudden action "Thats what makes you really Fun to be with~! Hehehehehe"

"Well her Dad did have a Sharpedo" many heads turn to Rotom at that mention "She would always race it everwhere in the waters".

To emphasize it's point, Rotom showed the boys of a picture consisting of a young you, still a young Poplio, in the waters with the said shark pokemon next to you on a race.

"Oh yeah" the memory really brings you back "Sharpedo was a real champion at racing in the waters. I always remember my Mom scolding me and Sharpedo for scaring some locals and pokemon during our little races"

"Amazing!" Cheka eyed the shark in amazement. It looks so cool!

Though the picture and shark was intriguing....

The one that caught the boys the most was yourself and your looks.

"Huh?" Ace deappanned "Thats you?"

"Ara" Floyd took a closer look at the picture "You look like a clown!"

"O-Oi! I was still a Poplio back than!" You huffed at their rude reactions at how you look like back than.

"A what?" Leona raised a brow at that weird word.

"A Poplio" you drawn out as Rotom takes the lead of showing them of what a Poplio is.

"Poplio, the Sea Lion Pokemon, a water type" th3 screen than showed a picture of a blue sea lion that has large eyes, a long, white snout with black whiskers, and a round, pink nose. There is a small, rounded earflap on each side of its head. Around its neck is a light blue ruff, which extends past its shoulders. It has four flippers. The front flippers are larger than the hind and have white markings separating its toes.

"Popplio is able to snort bubbles of water from its nose, which it uses as part of its battle strategy. On land, it uses the elasticity of its bubbles to perform acrobatic stunts and jumps. It practices daily with increasingly larger water bubbles. It can swim at 25 mph (40 km/h)"

"Aw so cute!" Kalim was acting just like Cheka, looking with stars in he's eyes "Did you do tricks back then than? Did you!?" Jamil had to hold him back from being too close at your face.

" Uh yeah" You answered nonetheless from the embarrassment "I even sing a few times"

That last statement that you had said made sense since elmost everyone in the group had heard you sing a few times in NRC, or even everywhere.

"As expected" Vil stated "A voice like yours must be train from how high your vocals had reach from the last time I heard you sing"

"Oui Roi Du Poison!" Rook exclaim merrily with a smile adorning he's face "Your voice compliments your looks, like a siren singing out her songs out in the open sea as her appearance enchants the sea around her".

"Wait what?" It was already too late as your companion loaded up the video of you singing on a beach port with people surrounding your performance with not just chears and compliments, but also your colorful ballons that you had summonsince this was the time where you were a Brionne.

During that time was your brother's surfing competition and your family decided to do some small tricks to entertain the guests before the tournament.

"Thats because I was a Brionne, my middle or second/first evolution" Replied the Primarina.

"A Brionne?" Jack questioned as Rotom does it's thing once more.

"Brionne, the Popstar Pokemon, a water type and the evolve form of Poplio" the picture shown on Rotom's screen consists of another seal but more light blue and with three ruffle-like growths around its body. The first ruffle is just under its front flippers, while the last is shortly before the tail. The ruffles alternate between white and pale blue. "So it depends on, like, environments or new spells you use?" Azul asked.

"Yep but where I come from, they're called Moves, not spells" You replied

You cant help but chuckle at their interest at your world. These type of things are amazing, yes, but back in your world it would be kinda consider normal thanks to your kind's abilities but than again, this world doesn't have pokemon so it makes sense at their suprise and interest.

The rest of the afternoon continue on with some relaxation and fun as per usual, with you using some of your moves like Bubble Beam and Water gun to emp up the fun even more.

"Come on Cheka" yawned Leona as he begrudgingly stood up from he's lounge chair to go to he's nephew "I think it's time to go home"

"Aaaaww~" the young Prince whined, not wanting to leave just yet "But I want to play with Auntie even more!"

"No and thats that" Leona sternly says, not wanting to waste another moment.

"Aw...okay" As Cheka was about to go to he's Uncle, You suddenly have an idea "How about we do one last trick, ay?" You winked at the little Cub " before you go"

The child's eyes immediately went wide with he's smile complimenting he's expression "Really!?" He cant wait for it!

Leona, feeling tired and dread at the pit of he's stomach that he didnt wanna continue watching the little rascal nor want to get in triuble with he's sister-in-law, tried to protest and be on their way until it was too late.

"Alright! Lets go!"

Many eyes went wide at the growing water bubble that you had created right before their eyes.

"Woah!" Deuce shouted in suprise "Its so big..." Trey sweatdropped at the enormous size.

"Now thats Magicam worthy" Usual Cater.

"Its so colorful!" Floyd happily said as the other Octavinielle residents watch in shock.

"Fufufufu~ it seems our little mermaid has more suprises than we expected" Lilia chuckled. He may have seen some interesting things back in he's day but you sure take the cake as being quite the few interesting ones. "Indeed" Malleus nodded in agreement, eyes on the glittering and beautiful ballon with amusement and curiosity of what will happen.

"Malleus-Sama! Stay back!" Still he's usually self as always, huh Sebek.

"Now....

Oceanic Operretta!"

The Primarina uses than sent the balloon float off into the nice sfaety yet viewable distance as it exploded with sparkly dust raining down from the explosion.

"Amazing!" Epel, Cheka and Kalim shouted at the beautiful sight before their eyes.

"Beaute!" Rook exclaim with Vil watch on with wonder. Maybe he can try using magic on stage...or better yet, let you join him on stage.

"Truly astonishing" Malleus brought he's hands to see if he could catch some of the sparkles (our curious little boi).

The others cant deny that their wording was wrong, the show itself was amazing and enchanting on how you had used your "Unique Magic" as you bow down to them with a smile on your face. Everyone on the beach clapped, whistled and complimented your display of power and elegance through your moves.

This world may be different from your own...

But you love it.

You love this guys.

And you love your memories with them.

Beautiful blue eyes train on the beautiful sparkly dust raining down on the water that he is in, had been watching the whole thing with amazement as he land out he's hand to see if he could catch the sparkles.

He was very greatful for sneaking out of RSA and away from he's overbearing Senior. If he hadnt, he wouldnt have seen such a sight.

Her singing was absolute beautiful! It was very enchanting! Especially when she had used it for her suppose "Unique Magic".

More Somewhat Angsty Diasomnia Thoughts? Ask and I shall deliver

Didn't expect this post to get a lot of attention fast so to my new followers, hello 👋. Didn't post a lot this week since it was pre-finals plus I'm busy writing for our school newspaper. BUT, I shall make up for it with more angst ✨

A quick realization that Sebek and Silver suffer from identity crisis but in completely different ways. Sebek is more on not knowing where he belongs to because of half fae half human heritage (and probably because of his environment, he degrades his human side, pretty much saying he hates himself). While Silver is more on focusing on not knowing who he is as a person, with his entire being molded to suit other people, he slowly loses himself.

Lilia may have the love a parent must have but his parenting skills are very questionable ( in a sense that he's fit to be a parent, at the same time he isn't). Like seriously you can't leave a 10 year old alone to fend for himself while you're away Lilia 😭. But then again this can also be reflected with how Lilia was raised as well, he was probably left alone to fend for himself as a child, and applies that same thing to Silver as well.

Have you guys ever thought about the possible envy/jealousy Malleus harbors for Silver and Sebek, seeing that they didn't grow up isolated due to status; we can also add the part about Malleus's parents being missing from the picture, which could possibly be the reason why Grandma Draconia chose to isolate Malleus, seeing that they are the only two left in the Draconia bloodline. I mean if we think about it, none of their childhoods were normal, but at least Sebek and Silver get to experience what it's like to be kids. As well as not being treated like an object and just as a regular person, people also fear Malleus which is why nobody approaches him but they approach his guards...

Sebek is literally holding diafam together like glue and I feel bad 💀. I mean he has his own set of issues, but he's also a wildcard on what will be his role for Chapter 7. Seeing that his main motif is the lightining of Maleficent, which could possibly symbolize his devotion for Malleus. BUT he could be the Shield of Virtue to Silver's Sword of Truth, which could symbolize them being each other's half (soulmate behavior) as well as a possible rebellion towards Malleus, seeing that these two weapons (well mainly the sword but the shield does have its uses) were used to slay Maleficent. But what could be the trigger for all that to happen 🤔?

Silver's devotion for his father and master will be put to the test in Chapter 7. Alright knowing that Chapter 7 is brewing something that's gonna wreck this found family to pieces, what if Silver is being forced to make a hard choice, a choice that involves his real origins? LIKE IF WE LOOK AT ENDLESS HALLOWEEN, WE KNOW SILVER LOVES HIS FAM SO MUCH, but what if it all changes due to a hidden truth which leads to betrayal?

GOOD AFTERNOON, I am awake, and I have ideas which means I am not shutting up so I can take time off summer work!!

Witch Hat Atelier Yuu AU!! (Yuu is Gender Neutral here, with They/Them being used.)

Yuu is currently a graduated witch (aged somewhere around 16-17) and is currently practicing making various types of glyphs. Their outfits are always filled with a glyphbook, a sketchbook and extra paper, items for making glyphs (like the conjuring ink, pens, and what else, plus a just in case for ink making), plus their shoes are soarboots. They're ambidextrous due to their practice and due to having a tendency of causing their wrists to suffer and are dextrous enough to use their feet and mouth to write.

This Yuu is a bit more excitable and curious than most but is also very keen and understanding. Though, at the start, their guard was up due to their suspicion. They slowly do get used to NRC, with a bit of annoyed jabs to Crowley.

Yuu relies on their glyphs less than they did pre-travel to Twisted Wonderland but they do rely on them in secret and have practiced them a lot.

The ink of their glyphs attract overblots, much to their dismay, and often causes issues for Yuu to deal with. It's awful enough that they decided to try and study overblots to save themself.

Yuu has interest in magic, and is often curious at the magic this current world holds for them to see. They can't use that magic but they do try recreating it, so long as it won't break the laws of their world's magic.

There was a time that, during their birthday, someone gave them art materials (rulers, protractors, those pens where you can make a perfect circle, circle rulers with loads of sizes, and more) which caused Yuu to make lots of glyphs for fun out of gratitude and extreme excitement.

Yuu is a very studious person and takes note on anything needed to understand. They're someone who takes note with any needed detail. They pay attention to detail and often portray things as such.

Yuu finds interest in Ignihyde and Diasomnia especially, with one specializing in magic and the other in technology. Yuu likes to learn more from those dorms especially and is a bit more excitable around them but tries to act calm about it, though it's something very noticeable even if they try to act calm.

Possible spoilers for WHA under the cut + Angsty things:

Yuu utilizes memory wiping glyphs on the regular, much to their annoyance. Yuu doesn't hesitate to do it and is very swift with their choice on doing that.

Yuu has tried forbidden spells in secret from a spellbook the Brimhats brought to them. However, no one has found out and they don't speak of those rules of magic to Twisted Wonderland simply because they don't know the full story yet.

Yuu hides their glyphs at first and only does it in secret but is forced to use them in chapter 4, especially with the Jamil Hypnosis thing going on. They do use it in secret before it, with the main ones being the soarboots and glyphs used to make hidden areas.

Yuu isn't on good terms with the Knights Moralis, since they've sensed a trace of the Brimhats from them, much to their confusion. They do their best to not interact with them much and do follow their rules. Yuu has learned their lesson from that encounter and tries to follow the rules more, especially around Riddle who reminds them of the Knights.

Yuu doesn't have the best self esteem as a witch, they tend to be jealous of those that have accomplished a lot and want to be just like them, but they lack the chances to do so. Yuu was basically placed on the back burner as a witch, but they keep trying to improve just so they could be good enough for someone.

Yuu wasn't the first option for many Professors and was often picked last, and was the last apprentice around the same age with the others to be chosen by the professor. Yuu kept on trying and trying, even trying to use tricks to get the upper hand, but they didn't find any use in it. Once they graduated, they wanted to create more glyphs to practice but also to let out steam.

They created a scream-box where you can scream into it about your feelings and keep it in there, but those emotions will come back once someone listens to it. Yuu didn't reveal nor show it to anyone because they used it to scream their feelings out.

Yuu has made various magically enhanced things in order to make sure their wish to improve as a witch won't die. It's only in Twisted Wonderland where they found use to being a witch and keep going as one.

Chapter 45 review

Man, Jamil knew he is a danger to everyone even when he doesn't have an idea why. He really does have the spirit of predicting the worst thing happened by giving the cats to Isiah and telling them to respect Kalim's privacy and leaving the dorm. Even goes as for everyone to avoid him. Seeing almost crying makes us think that Jamil couldn't use his facade after dealing with this kind of blow.

Don't act like this Floyd, you knew Yuu is gonna be out from dorm since the beginning and yet you and your brother couldn't even stop Azul. Through I'm sure Diasomnia would have been a good form for Yuu and Grimm to stay. Malleus love his child of man and he will bring a storm who dares disobey. I'm sure the reason he didn't let him in is because Yuu doesn't have an idea who Malleus is.

Love the Malleus and Yuu's argument as if they are casual lovers while the tweels look weirded about their relationship. Man hope those two get their first kiss.

Hilarious how people treating Yuu as a kid eventhough he is one of the oldest students. Sometimes they forget he is given his height and the only one who is around his height is Ruggie.

Even Ruggie can tell something is off with Leona. Once he learns about the djiin and timetravel situation, it will be too awkward given what just happened.

Yuu really is living the dream in the underwater much to the annoyance of the rest. Even when Yuu has competent allies to get the picture from the museum, yet they are still in disadvantage because of their unique magic. Other than Floyd's UM that help disolve their UM, Sebek's UM wouldn't work underwater because of electricity while Jack's UM wouldn't able to adapt underwater. At least Yuu made a great plan on how to stop it. Man Jade and Floyd aren't even smiling nor enjoying this fight, even the tense relationship between the twins. Man Riddle is stubborn to go back to NRC and instead when to the museum. This must be the Melody scene you been talking about, how terrified of what would happened if Floyd didn't save him. Floyd and Riddle aren't even a couple yet they argue as one.

Man glad they mentioned about Trey given he can be scary if his normal facade isn't around.

Glad to see Silver's POV, seeing how Kalim dreams about Jamil when they were young and seeing the sight of pre-timeline Scarabia. Man Silver was horrified what state Kalim was when he was killed and how Kalim would have died without that wish.

I see Silver is gonna revealed this information to the Ray of Hope. Man I'm sure people will be surprised on Silver in another group as well as lying and revealing the information. Silver seeing the sight of Jamil's overblot design, man it will be a huge shock to see it again soon.

Honestly seeing how Silver is the light for Kalim's darkness, this makes me think Sebek is the light for Jamil's darkness. They might go reverse in chapter 7 when it is done.

Dream Jamil and Kalim is like closer to their original chapter 4 ending, with Jamil being arrogant and going to a celebration. Cute to see them in their children state as if the hierarchy didn't exist.

I see that's Azul's revenge towards Kalim by revealing he works here, he knows that tampering with the second year ranks will made their contract nulled which is why he chose psychological attack in a simple way.

Haha, Sebek really is a trained knight. Yuu and Jack are both terrible at sneaking given their experience and Jack not only being huge but his tail being a give away. Ruggie stealing their money as always.

Ruggie really is a cunning bastard and how ironic that if the twins didn't abuse Ace, then Azul wouldn't let him be freely from work since Azul feels guilty on the bullying. Because of them, Ace can do things freely without getting hurt.

I mean he is not wrong that besides Silver and Kalim, the second years are all greedy.

OMG, overblots? That means there will be two overblots. Jade is most likely to be one to overblot since he seems to suffer much than Floyd especially since Floyd is the literally the sane one of the three right now.

Each of the chapter always gets met excited for new one. Based on my prediction, there be four chapters left which is mostly short chapters. One is the overblot chapter, the second is Azul's backstory, the third is the aftermath with the revealation amd talking things through, and the fourth is the extra chapter.

Sebek wasn't ready to hear his friend call his liege Tsunotarou for three days straight. Thanks Seven Jack is reliable and generous because otherwise the half fat was going to have a syncope.

I don't know if you guys are playing the new Tsum event, but there's one scene there with Trey that made me want to run for the hills... I'm not going to spoil anything but yikes, am I glad I'm safe behind a screen.

Yuu isn't given the respect he deserve but to be fair it's easy to forget when he's acting like in kid in Disneyland. Sometimes the neediness win over the age fight.

Azul did not plan the reveal, but Jamil had become a potential threat and it was a convenient way to take revenge on Kalim. If the dominos fall in place on their own, he's not going to complain. As for Ruggie, he suspect something is up to, but he's not prepared for the truth. At least he'll have a ton of Leona's kid picture to cope.

Grim got to do a lot his chapter! Providing distraction, recreating the Alien movie face hugger scene, and lead singer! Leona must be counting the minutes until he can kick them out. This ain't worth it.

Ace is never trusting any of the second year besides Kalim and Silver ever again. Not even Riddle, the last time he did his Housewarden did the exact same dumb stuff he got in trouble for!

As for if they noticed for the poisoning, they got a few good clues, let's see if they managed to figure it out... ;)

You know how Silver told MC he thought he met them before and how he sometimes dreams about them? Do you think it's possible Yuu might've been from Twisted Wonderland originally and has some connection to Diasomnia? Sorry if this sounds confusing, but this has been nagging at me for awhile

Oh anon, I have a lot of thoughts about that.

In case people may not know, Silver’s advertisement line during pre-release was around the lines of “I feel like I’ve seen you before”, and it has piqued the interest of fans since then, myself included.

Personally, I don’t think Yuu themselves was originally from Twisted Wonderland, but rather, I have different thoughts on the matter.

First one is the idea of time loops. I have a whole theory on that if you’re interested, but you don’t necessarily have to read it to be able to understand what I’m talking about in this post.

With time loops, obviously people won’t remember the events of the previous timeline. Probably they may have a sense of deja vu, but otherwise, they won’t have any recollection of what happened. Silver, however, is an interesting case.

Silver could have been affected by the time loops which is manifested in his sleepiness, and in his sleep, he could be possibly dreaming about previous timelines.

The idea is that the story we are reading now is another timeline, and Silver is possibly seeing the previous timeline through his dreams where Yuu was already in Twisted Wonderland and the events played out the same, only for OB Grim to wreck everyone and everything.

Another idea I’ve had is pretty much the same, except instead of a past timeline, Silver pulls an Old Testament Joseph and dreams about the future. In those prophetic dreams, Silver sees Yuu enter Twisted Wonderland and go through the school year dealing with classes and the occasional overblot.

What would be interesting to see is if Silver’s dreams reveal exactly how Yuu got into Twisted Wonderland. And I don’t mean the carriage ride, I mean if Yuu got in because someone (*cough*Crowley*cough*) brought us in or if it was a total accident.

This third idea is basically Silver is just like Yuu. Possibly, he may have the same dreams of the past that shed light on what role the Great Seven played.

If you think about it, Silver is twisted from something that probably played the most protagonistic role. Sure, he’s twisted from the sword, but that sword was wielded by Prince Philip and was used to slay Maleficent. He also bears a strong connection to Aurora, who is the protagonist of Sleeping Beauty. As for the other two characters who have been twisted from not-so villainous characters, Kalim and Rook, their original counterparts did not play major roles in their stories. Where am I going with this exactly? Because Silver was twisted from a protagonist, it’s very likely he could have the same dreams as Yuu due to that heroic quality he holds.

It’s possible that, in those dreams, Silver could have seen someone who bore similarity to Yuu. Maybe Yuu looked like Prince Philip? 😂 Well that’s an idea.

Or, Silver and Yuu have shared the same dreams all this time, and probably Silver has seen Yuu as he dreamt about all the Great Seven, but they were vague enough that he isn’t sure. Yuu probably didn’t see Silver because they were too focused on the main scene that happened in their dreams, but Silver could have seen them.

I really hope that Diasomnia’s chapter sheds light on this. 😩😩😩 Silver is one of my favorite characters and I want to see him shine. And who knows, maybe if he does get dreams, they could have the power to influence the plot of the story?

But since the Ignihyde characters don’t get as much as attention compared to Diasomnia (because Malleus and Yuu are having their friendship built in a wholesome and organic way), I still don’t know a lot about Ignihyde

I think that, of the dorms, we knew the least about Ignihyde pre-chapter release. It’s probably because 1) Ignihyde has less members than most other dorms, and 2) the dorm leader is an introverted shut-in, and therefore hard for other characters to engage with. Ortho is definitely outgoing, but he is also very Idia-centric, and Idia is... well, isolated and secretive.

The most we know is that the Shroud brothers care for each other a lot, and that Idia hates normies has some... personal struggles, but he either doesn’t seem interested in attempting to address them, or he seems to have lost all hope that it is even possible. That is what I was trying to convey in his letter, while still keeping it vague enough to fit in the framework of whatever chapter 6 ends up making canon.

The way Ignihyde is designed does not lend itself to information about it being organically introduced in the flow of the main story thus far. Hopefully we’ll get to see it shine when chapter 6 finally gets released!

Letting Out All My Feelings About Leona's Extended Arc (The Rebel of the Wilderness and Break & Gosh)

I think I'm going to think hard and reflect on why Break & Gosh is way harder to write than Jonah Argentum's Declassified Boarding School Survival Guide.

I blame Leona for this.

(I'll be referring the canon plot as Heartslabyul Arc and Savanaclaw Arc while the fanfic adaptation as The Crimson Tyrant and The Rebel of the Wilderness)

Because this is long, I’ll be cutting it here.

WHY FILLER ARC?

I guess we can start with why I write filler arc. In the beginning, it served as a bridge between two canon arcs and a way to even my chapter count so it can end at 5 and starts with 6, or end with 0 and start with 1. It actually helps me in editing.

The Crimson Tyrant has 20 episodes (the arc ended in chapter 35), so technically I don't need a filler Arc, but I need to write something to bridge it with The Rebel of the Wilderness, thus 5 episodes of JADBSSG was made.

The Rebel of the Wilderness has 22 episodes (ending in chapter 62), so I have to make 3 or 8 filler chapters to even everything out. That was the original plan. However, B&G ended up having 15 chapters. So, I could either add another 3 chapters or take away 2. Unfortunately, I can't. Which brings us to the next point.

THAT ONE OVERBLOT PROBLEM

I've complained many times how I dislike the pacing of The Rebel of the Wilderness and I have issues with Savanaclaw Arc, especially during the ending. I know some people think, especially after Scarabia Arc, that Ruggie should've been the one who overblotted. During the story, it was Ruggie who used magic the most, not Leona. But instead, it was Leona, who only used his magic once a time in the whole arc, who overblotted.

Let's look at the other victim overusing their magic before their overblot:

Riddle: We've seen him using [Off With Your Head] a lot across three arcs (prologue, Heartslabyul, and Savanaclaw). We've seen him collared Grim, Ace, Deuce, and nearly all the entire students.

Azul: He made deals with more than 200 students in Octavinelle Arc alone, including MC themselves. And during his breakdown he overused his magic to steal all the student's power without his contract, implying that he extend his power even more.

Jamil: Counting how many times Kalim's mood swings went and how he hypnotized MC, Azul, and Scarabia students. While we don't see this much, but it's safe to say that Jamil overused his power too.

Can I also added that these three characters had been doing this for a long time, way before the canon story start?

As a bonus, let's look at Ruggie:

We were shown how the incidents happened, we knew how many victims, we saw the stampede, we saw Ruggie drank an amplifier to raised his magic. It's safe to say that Ruggie used his magic a lot.

Compare all four with Leona, who only uses his [King’s Roar] once in the whole arc. You can see how disappointed some fans are for the lack of magic usage.

You can argue that his power is a One Turn Kill type, but that would imply that he overused his magic in one turn. Leona, being one of the oldest students in the student roster, can't control his magic in one attack? Sounds unlikely.

But, I remember I had a conversation with that negative emotion also causes overblot. And I agree with this. However, I added that negative emotion and overusing power go hand-in-hand.

Riddle anger at Ace's speech and protest of not following the rule. What happened after that was Riddle collating every Heartslabyul student.

Azul, who is frustrated when Leona ruined his contract, in a desperate measure, stole every power of the students there.

Jamil and his jealousy with Kalim and how kept holding back his true potential before breaking down and hypnotized everyone into his slave.

Leona had been frustrated with being compared to Farena and his failed plan to eliminate Diasomnia, leading him to unleash his unique magic for the first time.

Even Ruggie. He had the potential to fell into despair. Leona kept raising his hope that this Magishift might be his chance to go to the big league, only for that hope to be crushed when Leona gave up. If the creator wants, they could make Ruggie suddenly unleash his power and attacking everyone for being betrayed.

While, yes, I do feel Leona's negative emotions have stronger reasoning, but Ruggie also had a reason to fall into despair and had high usage of magic than Leona. He was the perfect candidate for overblot.

Why am I explaining this thing that all of you probably had known? Because, during The Rebel of the Wilderness, I kept trying to slip in every little chance for Leona to use his unique magic. Which mean, The Rebel of the Wilderness has more battle scene than The Crimson Tyrant.

In the end, I managed to slip in [King's Roar] in four accidents:

The sudden sandstorm during the flight practice (not a battle scene)

Jonah vs Leona one-sided Magishift

The stampede

Pre-Overblot battle

This is still considered little compare to what Ruggie did offscreen, but this is enough for the reader to know at least Leona uses his magic before the big overblot battle.

I'm not done yet!

EARN YOUR "HAPPY" ENDING

Once we're done with that overblot problem, we have to talk about the whole aftermath. Because this ending is the main reason we have pacing issues.

First, let's look at Heartslabyul Arc. After Riddle's overblot and Ace demanded a Revenge Unbirthday, Riddle was shown to be taken to the infirmary by Trey. A few days later, the Revenge Birthday Party happened.

See this? There's a small few days gap between the overblot incident and the finale for the kids to recover and to think about his action, even have time for Riddle making that salty tart.

Now let's see Savanaclaw Arc. After Leona overblot, Crowley wanted to disqualify Savanaclaw from the match, but the Victim Club requested to keep the team. The Magishift then happened, Yuu got hit with a disk, wine up in the infirmary, and met Cheka.

You see something? The ending of Savanaclaw Arc happened on the same day of the overblot sequence. Which means, these kids didn't get a chance to rest. Leona never had a chance to think about the action. Ruggie didn't get help for his scar from Leona's power. And overall you basically overworked these kids!

You can argue that these kids are tough, but are you also saying that it's okay for Ruggie, who was threatened to turn into sand, to not get help? For Leona to take a break after overbloting?

Can I also add that Leona flashback felt so rushed? Let's see the others' overblot flashback:

Riddle's flashback has five scenes in between monologues (1-28):

His birthday

Him studying with his mother

Meeting Trey and Chenya

Little kids’ strawberry tart discussion

His mom got angry.

Azul's flashback has four scenes in between monologues (3-34):

Two bullying scenes

First meeting with Floyd and Jade

Azul revealing his unique magic for the first time.

Jamil has the most with six scenes and probably more if you count every Kalim’s appearance in there (4-36):

Jamil got scolded for denying Kalim's request

Jamil's parent telling him to purposely hold back

Kamil kept "winning" in a few scenes

Kalim being chosen as the Scarabia Prefect and Jamil discussing this with Crowley

As for Leona (2-27):

Two. Leona has two flashback scenes. Leona flashback has more "tell" than "show"! Not to mention, this flashback only happens half of the episode! The other half was the overblot aftermath when Crowley was about to disqualify Savanaclaw Team. Why are they holding back? Why they only give so little about Leona's childhood?

THE REBEL OF THE WILDERNESS PACING ISSUE

Because of me trying to add more of Leona using the power and fixing the ending, The Rebel of the Wilderness experienced more changes in its structure. I kept on cutting chapter into two and adding battles in the middle of the plot, and, for those who read my adaptation, the ending of The Rebel of the Wilderness is completely different from Savanaclaw Arc. Compare to Savanaclaw Arc's happy ending, The Rebel of the Wilderness can be considered as a bad ending. Leona wasn't able to join in the Magishift because he was unconscious post-overblot, so he could only watch the match from TV/magic mirror. Ruggie, who was spared from disintegrating, lead the team but still lose. And this is the last time we see Jonah with both of his real hand. Also, instead of Cheka, Farena was the one who talked to Leona, and it ended up with both of them arguing. Overall, it was a downer ending.

Another reason why this was hard to adapt was that I kept messing around the scenes to make the plot flow better.

However, with me changing these scene order, plus the built-up relationship in previous chapters, many reasoning that happened in this Arc change from canon:

Crowley's explanation about the overblot came way earlier than canon because I feel like this is a very important thing so he could delay from telling them. We don't know how long between Heartslabyul Arc and Savanaclaw Arc, but I assume it was weeks after the Heartslabyul Finale. What's the delay Crowley

Instead of hearing this from Crowley, Jonah hears about the Magishift from Riddle to further their relationship post-oveblot. Not only that, here Jonah was invited to the Prefect Meeting unlike in the canon.

Speaking of Prefect Meeting, I have two instead of one. The first one to establish Jonah equal position as Prefect with the others and to set up of Azul being the Magishift head committee, while the second went just like canon but with Jonah/MC attending that.

In Savanaclaw Arc, Crowley asked the MC to investigate. MC and Grim interviewed the Heartslabyul and Pomefiore victims first before hearing that Trey got injured and teamed up with the Heartslabyul squad. However, in the fanfic adaptation, Jonah and Grim heard about Trey's fall first then meeting Crowley about the investigation along with Riddle. By switching these, it felt like Riddle was the one having the idea to do the investigation instead if Crowley thrusting the responsibility to MC. I just want to show how Riddle had grown into a more caring good friend since he's taking the matter more personally as Trey's childhood friend first before his prefect responsibilities.

Not technically a change in scene orders, but because Jonah has a closer relationship to the Octavinelle Trio rather than the MC, the way the trio acts here were different from canon. Most notably, was the Azul declined to help Leona, forcing Leona to use his Unique Magic to caused confusion in the parade and letting Ruggie control fewer people without an amplifier.

The appearance of the Victim Club to Crowley happened off-screen but presented in a flashback instead of at the end of the Overblot battle because you know how much changes happen beyond that.

Both the Magishift practice and the actual match happens in the filler Arc instead of in the main arc, mostly because I want this to happen when everything is more stable between Leona and Jonah.

So many reasoning, but all of them are connected to Break & Gosh

WHEN YOU REALIZED YOUR FILLER ARC IS NOT TECHNICALLY A FILLER

According to TV Trope (my source of knowledge), filler episodes are entries in a generally continuous serial that are unrelated to the main plot, don't significantly alter the relations between the characters, and generally serve only to take up space. This could be considered Padding (the addition of scenes to lengthen a story) applied to a whole franchise by creating a brand new episode.

I call JADBSSG and B&G as 'filler arc' is because it's original from me to fill the time gap between the main arc for a reasonable pace. However, I also realized that nearly all of my filler episodes have some purpose for the plot with important plot points that it's impossible to take them out.

This includes:

However, this is even harder during B&G rather than JADBSSG and not only because B&G is trice the length of JADBSSG.

In JADBSSG, while it may be just a collection of one-shots, but there are some chapters that are connected with each other, which are 37, 39, and 40. Meanwhile, chapter 36 and 38 can stand on their own. So, I can actually change those two chapters in whatever order I can or even slip it in between the three-chapters, but I can't rearrange those three main.

However, you can't do this with B&G. You can't take away a chapter in B&G without making it awkward in the flow. Each chapter in B&G is connected in that certain order. You can't have Leona's Therapy (72-73) at the beginning of the Arc, because we need to address the Overblot aftermath damage (63-66) The Halloween chapters (67-71) can't happen after the Magishift Rematch (74-77), because we need Jonah and Leona to mend their relationship first in the therapy. You see, what I mean?

Heck, I can even consider B&G is part of The Rebel of the Wilderness because we haven't got that therapy and Magishift match until the end of the filler arc.

But in the end, I can't delete both filler arc because both of them have important plot points that will affect the main arc.

END OF RAMBLING

Writing Break & Gosh was an experience. It was my first time writing sports scenes, but you can also call this the first time writing a full-fledge Arc. I'm still salty about my update schedule and how I kept changing the arc length, but it was certainly something. And despite all my rambling and nitpicking, I still like Break & Gosh.

The next filler arc is probably more lighthearted than Break & Gosh, probably in the same tone as Jonah Argentum's Declassified Boarding School Survival Guide, since it will be a Christmas special but also mark the point where I fully diverge in canon (related to Scarabia Arc, Happy Beans Day, and Fairy Gala). The Merchant of the Deep Sea will be the last time I'll follow canon in terms of the timeline.

I also want to say thank you to all who still sticking around after that mess of an arc. I tried my best to give Leona the therapy he deserved, but I'm still not sure whether I succeed or not. I'll let you decide whether this is a good arc or not.

i had the theory that kalim would oberblot after idia based only on the animated intro,where the dormleaders are introduced in a specific order and the fact that azul's oberblot and childhood photo are hinted at makes me wonder

So apparently the OP was made before the game devs decided on making the Scarabia chapter before Pomefiore, rather than having it before Diasomnia which confused a lot of people of the order of dorm stories. They changed this order on their website too, if anyone’s been watching twst pre-release. Ace + Deuce were also introduced beside Riddle in the dorm leader montage, so I personally don’t think it’s related to order of ob...

...with that infodump being said, I wouldn’t mind an ob!kalim and I can see how it might play out but I wanna hear your ideas first because I feel like you have a lot anon 👀

With chapter 2 arc ended, what is your favorite moment in the pre-game arc, Heartslabyul arc, and Savanaclaw arc of your fanfic?

My favorite in the pre-game arc is Kalim is standing up against the Octavinelle which almost got the Octavinelle surprised and the Djiin revealed to in Jamil. I also like Kalim confessing to the Diasomnia trio before Sebek.

The Heartslabyul is the club day because I love the add of originality with heartbreaking moments on Kalim confessing to Riddle and Ace and Cater becoming Floyd's punching bags. I also love Cater confessing to Trey about everything, I love the boyfriend revelation and how Cater whine about Trey not being mad at him.

And the Savanaclaw is Ruggie's moments from being the one proceeding the plan to being backstab to his suppose overblot to his revenge against Chuki to his kiss to Leona. Basically every Ruggie moment because I like his character arc. I also like how Deuce and Ace became thirsty towards Jack and Sebek punching Jack showing his fae side. And Silver seeing Ruggie's nightmare and how Silver was used.

For me, pregame there’s the Octavinelle deal, I took a long time planning it out and rehearsing the dialogue so it was really exiting to write it down! And it was the beginning of the FloRid saga. Then there’s the Housewarden position arc with the Kalim/Jamil confrontation and the storybook scene.

Heartslabyul for me the highlight was every time Floyd and Riddle interacted with one another. I was laughing maniacally when writing those scenes.

The. For Savanaclaw it was of course the Ruggie stuff but also the creation of the Scooby gang and Halloween, with Jamil thirsting after Kalim and all the drama during the festivities. The poison reveal was also pretty good!
