Opinion. Moon Knight treats religion as a priest of Khonsu the same way that Kierkegaard does Christianity, but he’s a lot more pissed off about it.
To clarify, Kierkegaard believes that faith is a difficult task that you need to really work for, you can’t just follow the motions. He says that if you have proof, if there was a logical reason for believing in God, than it wouldn’t be faith.
Moon Knight seems like someone who has a reason to believe in Khonsu? Because he keeps bringing him back to life and he can see him. But. Marc Spector is someone who has lived without being able to trust his mind to always show him reality. That’s one of the main motifs in the asylum comics. So, believing in Khonsu, someone that, often, only he can see, is always an act of faith. However, faith is not reverence and he will not hesitate to yell in Khonsu’s face. He has faith in this god, doesn’t mean the god isn’t an asshole.

My dissertation was on Just War, but I cited the Batman Encyclopaedia just the same. At some point, demanding to keep your own hands clean in the face of preventable human misery is just indefensible.
And Batman doesn't even need to kill the Joker, he has batfam lining up around the block willing to do it! But he'd rather batarang his lost Robin than let the Joker stop hurting people.
Anyway, 14 years after graduation I realised their toxic relationship is the definition of a comic book version of the trolley problem.

when he first grabbed my waist, a sharp sting shot through my heart
i knew this feeling way too well
it felt like the nights, i‘d push a pillow on my back, erroneously gripping my hand onto my waist, to simulate safety
it felt like those lonely evenings, where i‘d wish nothing else but you by my side
you touched me exactly how i needed it
soft but so confirmative
your finger sweeping gently over my hipbone
placed exactly where i‘d imagined them to be

Issue #2: Issue two could serve as a great reintroduction to some of the book's supporting cast. So issue two deals with howard and bev getting roped into helping paul market his artwork. Anyone who could've helped him make it big ended up abandoning him or using him, after all. So to try and earn more money, he wants his friends to go out and spread the word about his art.
Howard and Bev and Winda manage to spread the name of Paul Same all across Cleveland. He becomes a local celebrity in the greater Cleveland area, with some outreach even into areas like Akron and Cincinnati. For a while, life actually looks really good for Paul Same.
The one problem here, though: Paul's fame angers another Ohio based painter. An office manager with broken hopes and dreams of being an artist feels like Paul stole what should've been his. This man was already broken and cynical, but he finally loses his mind due to the reporting on Paul. The man coats himself in paint, ditches 90% of his clothing, and demands he be known as efil si tra (art is life backwards), the living art piece! And then he tries to poison Cleveland's waters with lead paint, in retaliation for how society never accepted his visions.
And let me make this clear: this insane man is meant to be sympathetic. He's deranged and weird, but he's also clearly had a lifetime of rejection and crushing boredom forced upon him. He lost his mind because we never gave this man the positive reinforcement he deserved. So when Paul manages to talk him down from doing anything, it's meant to be a profound scene. The story ends with the man going to a mental healthcare facility, but him and paul actually end up connecting.
Issue #3: Issue three feels like it deserves to be lighter, considering issue two was so profound and depressing. So issue three is a Halloween special: the return of the hellcow! Yes, Bessie the Hellcow is back. She's still hunting Dracula, hoping to get revenge on him for killing her owner. So when she thinks Claude Starkowski is Dracula (because of his Halloween costume), she stalks him the whole night. And Howard has to play vampire hunter, as he's roped into protecting Claude from the Hellcow.
This issue could be seen as the set-up for a Hellcow spin-off book, because I still really want a book about Bessie the Hellcow. If tomb of dracula ran for like 60-70 issues back in the 70s, we should be able to get a hellcow book to run for at least 50 issues now.

I was stoked to illustrate the cover for @budlifemagazine issue 5 and of course stoked to incorporate skating into it! It ain’t just doing gnarly tricks with wheels under your feet, skating completely shifts and shapes how you interact with the world. It’s about self growth, self expression, visualisation, being present, connection to people and place etc. etc. Half my time skating is actually spent looking off at the horizon or the wind rustling the trees and appreciating nature in a way I don’t always make the time to otherwise. So it actually felt like a perfect fit for a zine about art, philosophy and nature!
Hit up @budlifemagazine to get a copy.
Aaaand now I wanna go for a skate! 🌱🪴🛼🛼

reread adventures of john blake after maybe six years... it is always unfortunate when something does not live up to how cool you thought it was when you were younger.

"That's your purpose in life; that's your mission; that's the highest achievement; is to be you, the true you, as fully as you can and enjoy the ride. That's it. You are here to become. Who you essentially are—the reason why you were put on this earth—is what you never grow tired of being" Unknown
"Connection is why we're here; it is what gives purpose and meaning to our lives" Brené Brown
“May my soul bloom in love for all existence.” Rudolf Steiner
When in doubt, trust your heart and be YOU. The world will confuse you, knock you down and bury you. When you feel lost, alone, scared or unsure, do not waver. Press on. Move forward. Give it your all with everything you have from the depths of your soul.
Do not question why you’re here. You’re here because we need you.
