#Jason watches her and counts off the strikes
dudedidujust · 4 months
Text
can't stop thinking about that joke about Jason having to ask for every bolt of lightning he uses, but what if- what if that was true.
just imagine Jupiter giving a restricted amount of bolts he can use in a set time and not renewing them until the time limit has passed. just imagine Jason in battle counting off every lightning strike and trying to save them for later. just imagine that the only way to get more is begging to a father who does not care to listen. sometimes the count varies and he's in the middle of a fight and suddenly the lightning he's summoning puffs into smoke in his hands and he's left scrambling even though he's sure he hasn't run out. Jason learns to manipulate the winds, to fly, to fight and win without lightning ever sparking between his fingertips because there's always a chance that he may need it later, that a greater emergency could occur. He's fighting Krios, furious and fast when there's suddenly smoke where there should be lightning and he grits his teeth, raises his sword, and keeps going. He wins.

DPxDC Recount Your Kids, Batman
[A loose continuation to this post]
Talia doesn't visit the Wayne manor. At least not regularly nor officially. All the batkids and Batman know she comes sometimes, just to check up on Damian and maybe bother Bruce from time to time, but this is the first time she has ever shown up to a dinner.
And, as they all take their seats, she gives Damian a long curios glance. Then, she looks to Bruce.
"Is that everyone?" She asks, easy and lighthearted. One might think she is simply not acquainted with the number of Wayne children or that she is teasing Bruce on the sheer amount of them. But Damian is looking down to his plate, and Tim knows for sure Talia keeps up with Wayne's head count, and Dick is fairly certain Talia would never tease Bruce, at least not so subtly.
It could have been some sort of a hint at Jason. If he was not here, that is. But he is, for once, so this is really all the family at one table.
"Yes?" Dick tries, looking around the table just to make sure. Steph and Babs are not here today, but that's definitely not what Talia could have meant. Bruce also looks just a little confused, which is a nice change of pace since he looked guarded and on edge from the very moment Talia showed up.
The woman hums, her eyes studying Damian. The youngest bat keeps his gaze down on his empty plate. No one really understands what's going on, but they all feel like there's something important and heavy hanging in the air.
Then, Talia stands up and turns to Alfred, "We will be dining later. It has come to my attention that kids are a lot more secretive than I thought," she explains cryptically and smiles at Bruce, "Beloved, will you come with me to the training grounds? I have something to show you."
Bruce doesn't move for a long moment, and Talia's smile becomes almost gentle, "It's about your son."
At least that makes the man move.
When they get down to the Cave - since Talia insisted this was not a matter that could be resolved in the manor's training room - it's not only her, Bruce, and the little bat there, of course. The whole family was way too intrigued, and some were even alarmed.
The most alarming part, though, was the fact that Damian had been uncharacteristically quiet on their way down. Yet, when Dick looked to Cass, she just shook her head slightly. The boy was not worried. To Cass, he looked almost resigned, if a bit displeased.
"Your sword, Damian," Talia commands, and the boy presses his lips into a thin line.
"This is not necessary, Mother."
"It is," the woman looks amused, but there's an underlying layer of concern to her tone.
"...Yes, Mother," Damian nods his head on what feels like surrender and takes his katana. Not the training one, the real blade. Bruce makes a soft, alarmed grunt, but Talia waves him off.
"Not to worry, Beloved. I will not harm our brethren."
She doesn't take a stance, nor does she pick out a weapon, simply lunges for Damian as soon as they are both on the mats. Two daggers seem to appear in her hands out of nothing, and, contrary to her words, her aim is towards Damian's neck. The boy blocks, jumps away, and blocks another attack.
Tim steps closer, "You can't just-"
"Step away, Drake," It's the first time Damian has spoken to them since they've sat down for dinner. His voice is tense, but not derisive. If anything, it sounds a bit tired.
Talia lunges for him again, faster, meaner. Metal clings against metal.
"You understand this can not keep going, my child," she tells the boy, startlingly gentle on the contrary to her definitely dangerous strikes.
Damian doesn't answer.
The rest of Batfam are forced to simply watch the encounter: Damian is mostly on defense as Talia goes for him, harder and harder with every hit. Until, without any warning, the woman strikes for Damian's arm, making him drop his katana, and-
A few things happen at once.
Talia lunges for Damian's throat. Bruce jumps onto the mats so fast that he almost trips. Tim yelps.
But Talia's blade doesn't strike.
A figure of another child, eerily similar to Damian and wearing the League of Assassins uniform, is standing in front of the littlest bat, two crystal clear blades in his hands, blocking the dagger.
Bruce halts midstep. The rest of the family holds their breath.
But Talia simply smiles and drops her daggers, backing away and looking at the boy between her and Damian with a fond gaze.
"Danyal," she greets, and the boy huffs, lowering his weapons. He doesn't drop them - they simply dissipate in the air, turning into tiny snowflakes.
"Mother," he greets back begrudgingly, and his voice is the exact replica of Damian's. A clone? No, because Damian reacts to him nothing like he had to the clones, simply clicking his tongue and rolling his eyes.
"You could have simply asked, Mother," he comments, taking a step forward and stading near the other boy. Danyal. When standing side by side, they look nearly identical - same facial features, same posture, same hair, even if Damian's is a little more tame.
But Danyal's eyes are just a few hues off. Still green but lighter than Damian's.
"I assumed if you have spent years living here and never bothered to mention your brother, I would need a little more than asking, my love," Talia doesn't laugh, but it sounds like she wants to. Both boys roll their eyes, perfectly in sync.
Hold the fuck up, brother?
"Huh. I thought you died," Jason mentions offhandedly, and the whole family whips their heads to him. Yet, before any of them speak, it's Danyal who answers.
"I mean, I did? Kinda?" He waves his hand in the air and shrugs, and he acts so unlike Damian while also simultaneously having his face, that it makes Tim shiver a little.
"You-" Bruce starts, seeming to finally find his voice, but the boy cuts him off.
"I'm not actually yours," he snorts at Bruce's facial expression, "Yeah, I know I look like I am. Blame the ghost sewers, Chronos, and my stupid ass for making decisions while not being fully awake."
There is so much to unpack in that sentence that no one has the barest of ideas on where to start.
Damian curves his lips down in a sneer.
"The longer you stay there staring, the colder the dinner will be when we return," he reminds them, and Danyal suddenly perks up.
"Dinner? Can I join? It's been ages since I've had anything home cooked," he smiles, like there's some kind of an inside joke in that sentence. Damian rolls his eyes.
"The food doesn't come alive in this household, Danyal."
"Bummer," the boy looks a bit disappointed, but not too much. "And it's Danny, for the thousandth time."
Talia picks up her daggers, hiding them somewhere in her clothes in an unnoticeable motion. Then, she gives Bruce a small, if a bit sly, smile.
"You can not call it 'family dinner' if not all your family is there."

Note
I h3ad cannon athat all the batfam members have had/are still in their emo/goth phases.
Example:
Bruce dressed as a bat and punches criminals at night (I also head cannon that he listens to the rolling stones and MCR)
Anyways thoughts?
Also what were the other batfam members emo/goth phases like?
Dick: He was hella neurotic in his late Robin/early Nightwing days. That plus his mullet and guitar tells me he probably tried to live out of a used van he bought for $700 after a fight with Bruce only to come home a week later when someone knocked on his window.
Jason: He's the theater/classic lit goth. When he was younger he would read by the glow of a candelabra even though the lights work perfectly fine. Post-resurrection, he graduates to the biker anarchist who has no problem launching a molotov at a CEO's mansion.
Tim: He's from the 90s. He's sitting in that Y2K grunge-emo-punk gray area where his playlist is a mix of the Clash, Nirvana, and Green Day. He's coloring his hair with Kool-Aid, playing with makeup, ripping his own clothes, and talking about new songs on AOL.
Damian: He's aiming for dark academia, but that's hard to pull off if you know what American schools look like. He annotates the margins of his books with notes he thinks are insightful but are actually just basic observations. Also he listens to Imagine Dragons.
Duke: This kid isn't emo or goth, he is a punk through and through. Sassing the cops? Jumping off a bridge? Leading a ragtag vigilante team? If he wanted to, I bet he can pull off a leather jacket with some homemade spikes while blasting Bad Brains and Death.
Cullen: Canonically, he watches anime and Supernatural, and I've made a lot of Tumblr references with him. He's definitely your quintessential 2010s emo nerd—Black Parade, fandoms, the whole shabang. He also definitely followed Dan and Phil.
Stephanie: She strikes me as the early 2000s pop-punker—think MySpace and Avril Lavigne. She probably had a Not Like Other Girls phase that she quickly grew out of. I can see her cutting posters out of magazines and sneaking her MP3 under an oversized hoodie.
Cassandra: She canonically listens to Killswitch Engage, so I like to imagine what she was like as a baby metalhead. Maybe she thrifted a Pantera shirt and chopped her hair with safety scissors. And at concerts she's absolutely up front when the wall of death happens.
Barbara: I think she dabbled in a little bit of everything without ever outwardly expressing it. Her playlist is all over the board, from softer rock to screamo. She also experimented with makeup a little, like black lipstick, and is more involved in the activism side of things.
Harper: She's definitely industrial punk with a huge emphasis on the DIY aspect of the subculture. She strings soda tabs into chains, turns old screws into boot spikes, and even learned to give herself tattoos. She also absolutely has a drawer full of patch pants.
Carrie: She's a TikTok e-girl, leaning into the pinks and purples along with black and white. She turns fishnet leggings into gloves and has a bunch of animal ear headbands. She also listens to Melanie Martinez and Tame Impala regardless of if they count as alternative.
Kate: Queer people play a huge role in the punk scene and vice versa. I can absolutely see Kate jamming out to an early Pansy Division track or searching places like Bandcamp to support smaller indie artists. Also she has a jacket that says "Nazi punks fuck off."
Alfred: Before punk and its subgenres, Alfred was canonically a delinquent and in that day, delinquency meant gelled-up hair and moving like Elvis. The hair didn't work out for him, but he was able to catch one of the first shows Buddy Holly played in London.
Selina: Alt cultures are based on not having much and working with what you got. Selina would use the five-finger discount at big-box stores and save her money to support small businesses. She also went around listening to free local rock shows on Fridays.
Bruce: He listened to the Rolling Stones before, but his first real intro to the scene was a handmade zine he found on the floor at school. From there, he explored more underground artists and took up journaling as a way to vent his feelings. And then: Batman.

a quick look back at may 2024
i got started on this early for once. character development, i suppose.
general overview and numbers
i watched 90 matches in may, 65 of which took place this month. this is…a lot more than i expected to, frankly! my sleep schedule has been kind of grim, so i ended up watching more shows live than usual. i might be sleepy, but at least i've been sports entertained.
nothing super notable to report on, though i have been backwatching quite a bit of dragongate this month. dead or alive got me bad. there's something about those cage matches, man.
most appearances throughout the month
hayata's in first place for both "matches that took place this month" and "matches i watched this month," so, fuck, i guess hayata's the Spreadsheet Champ of the Month. i wouldn't have guessed it; i feel like i've barely seen him this may, what with my Bad At Watching Tournaments disease striking halfway through best of the super juniors. i'll...catch up eventually, probably.
mumbling about matches
great sakuya and nagisa nozaki vs miyuki takase and nanashi (noah, april 1st)
starting off with one not from this month! i made a mental note to include it in last month's writeup, but realized that i left it off of the post proper right after i sent it out. unfortunate, but it's my self-indulgent summary post and i can break my "only talk about matches that happened this month" rule whenever i want, so it's making it onto this one.
anyway! short but very fun match. a blend of goofy hijinks and doing-moves wrestling that appealed to me greatly. the normal wrestler-spooky wrestler tag dynamics? the slasher movie sequence? excellent, wonderful, loved it. i've come to really enjoy nagisa nozaki, i should seek out more of her matches when i have the time.
kzy vs jason lee vs hyo vs shun skywalker vs jacky "funky" kamei (dragongate, may 5th)
i can count the number of times i've cried at something fictional on one hand. this isn't a good or bad thing, i just don't think i engage with media in a way that provokes that kind of response.
that being said, this match got me really, really close to crying. the power of love and friendship is real, maybe.
takashi sugiura vs masa kitamiya (noah, may 4th)
i'm reluctant to use this wording as i feel it sets expectations too high, but sugiura and masa had kind of a perfect ten-minute match? solid pacing, did everything it needed to, made both performers look stellar. masa rules and i just want him to have nice things. unfortunately, i also don't want him to experience head trauma, and that was not a wish granted here. my love for the single-trickle-of-blood-running-down-forehead visual is constantly at war with my feelings about shoot headbutts.
shoko nakajima vs miu watanabe (tjpw, may 5th)
i’ve been putting together a playlist of some personal highlights of 2024 wrestling to show some friends, and i am going to shuffle shit around as much as possible to make sure that this gets in there. “technical freak vs person who’s strong enough to just pick them up if they go for a hold” is a combo that always appeals to me, and since nakajima and watanabe are both excellent wrestlers, i was constantly delighted throughout the runtime. good, good stuff. while i might not cry often, i’m very soft-hearted, so the hug at the end made me Feel.
i find that it often takes a couple of matches for me to fully click with a wrestler, and i think this was the match that made me click with shoko nakajima. shokopilled bigkaijumaxxing.
kosei fujita vs el desperado (njpw, may 13th)
imagine a flame text gif reading “FUJITA ROCKS.” now imagine another, slightly different flame text gif reading “DESPERADO ALSO ROCKS BUT I THINK WE ALL KNOW THAT BY NOW.” thank you for your time.
jun akiyama vs atsushi kotoge (noah, may 29th)
my exact spreadsheet notes were "still thinking about this. what a fucking match. why were they in love here."
onward to june! while there isn't a lot that i'm super invested in storyline-wise at the moment (barring minoura and yamato's whole deal), i am looking forward to a couple of the events scheduled for this upcoming month. despe invitacional save me. save me despe invitacional.
if there was something you particularly enjoyed this may, do feel free to share! see you next month!

jason and co being like if there's gonna be a s4 they're gonna need to wait for the inspiration to strike of where to take the story if there even is any further story. meanwhile james is out here with his 70k fic lined up ready to go
JASON SEASON 4 IS TED ACCEPTING LOVE OKAY. HE HASN'T DONE THAT YET HE NEEDS THAT ARC. season 4 ted learns it can be about him. and all these people that love himmmm
SAY IT!!!!!!!! ted needs to break down his walls and allow himself to be taken care of!!!
also....the way i would watch s4 even if the football focus was gone....astronomical. if it was just a season full of no real plot outside of ted in richmond learning to accept love in all its forms, count me in. give me that same type of storytelling derry girls used, where it focuses in on every day life with no big overarching stakes.
it'd never be boring because the past three seasons have laid the foundation for character-driven shenanigans from a stacked cast of individualized characters.
you can't tell me phoebe and henry wouldn't cause mayhem together the second roy and ted introduce them to each other. or that trent and ted in a museum together would be anything but an impassioned game of Who Can One Up The Other In Weird Niche References & Jokes. or that the week before a fundraiser event, rebecca would paint ted's nails over a wine night to see which color would best match her dress, all the while ted opens up to her about whatever is on his mind.
a season of domestic, steady life in richmond where ted isn't under this insane "what am i doing here" pressure would be amazing, i think. we'd finally see what ted is like when he's settled in and relaxed without the strain of living away from henry. what would his home decor choices be? does he teach henry how to bake biscuits? how does he show up for his found family outside of the role of Coach?
i think it would be interesting to see how the other characters operate outside of the Football Club backdrop, too. do will and leslie go to more jazz clubs together? what does dani do on his days off? have moe and beard ever accidentally run into each other on a night out?
there's so much potential there to keep building up the richmond lore & world & relationships

5. out of sparks
- synopsis\\ you watch as dick runs off after batman betrays him for the last time, causing the family to fall apart. after an explosion, and a time machine, with a speedster to help you, you have one last chance to stop history from repeating itself.
• word count: 1,332
• masterlist
Tumblr media
as you made it out into the city, you and dick split up. you radioed barbara, “hey, are you already with someone? i don’t wanna be on my own tonight.”
“nope, just me. is something wrong?”
“no, just feeling lonely,” you lied. “where are you?”
“corner of b street,” she said. and so you drove over to where she was. she was sitting on one of the rooftops just staring out at the city lights. you swung up with a grappling hook and sat next to her.
“feels like it’s been forever since we last talked,” you started. it was true for you, but you couldn’t say the same for her.
“we talked this morning,” she laughed. you smiled, it was nice being able to sit down with your family and just talk. no one was guilty, no one was upset, no one was gone. everything was actually okay again.
“how’s the library?” you asked. you didn’t wanna immediately jump into questions about dick. people were already suspicious.
“not bad, it’s as slow as ever. how were your midterms?”
“they went well. i’m not too worried. how were yours?” she was a criminology major at the university.
“they were long, i’m just glad they’re over,” she sighed.
“so am i. besides, now you get to spend extra time with dick,” you leaned into the topic slowly.
“that too,” she said. she didn’t sound excited, the way you thought she would. but she was probably really tired, so you didn’t think much of it. “how about you? is there anyone special you’re hiding?” she grinned.
“no, not really,” how did this get turned on you?
“not even one of the titans or something?” the titans?
“why one of the titans?” you asked. she wasn’t talking about bart, was she? why would she be? you haven’t started to hang out with him at this point in time, and even when you do it’s not like she’s around you much to notice.
“where else would you be around kids your age?” she asks.
“school???” you offer.
she laughs again, “well sure, but they’re kinda boring compared to a teen titan.” she’s got a point there.
talking about relationships is new for you. you’ve never really talked about it with your brothers, and you’ve only ever brought it up once or twice with kate. bruce was totally out of the question, that’s why you got your sex talk from harley. which led to ivy giving you a better explanation. that led to selena trying to step in, but she eventually just sent you to alfred who was always the one to do it.
talking about relationships with barbara was new, but it wasn’t bad. of course, it also led you to an opportunity. and when opportunity strikes, who are you not to take it?
“whenever i do end up in a relationship, i can talk to you about it, right? i mean, you’re in a happy relationship with dick so you’d be able to give me good advice,” it was a bit heavy on implying she was happy, but it was good enough to probe her thoughts.
she didn’t answer immediately like you thought she would. instead, she thought for a moment and said “yeah, i guess i’m pretty happy.”
“you guess?” she must have just worded it strangely. she loved dick, didn’t she? maybe not later on when she did what she did. but back in time where you were, she had to have loved him then?
“i’m happy,” she said. and that was that. but it wasn’t.
————
back at the cave, you and barbara had arrived last. “you took your sweet time,” jason raised an eyebrow.
“we got caught up in talking,” barbara said.
“talking?” he continued.
“believe me, you wouldn’t be interested,” you chimed in and barbara smiled. that was enough for jason to drop the subject and move on. he walked over to tim and the two of them left for the manor. dick walked over and grabbed barbara’s hand, sliding his fingers between hers.
“how are you doing?” he looked like a puppy in love. it was a refreshing sight, not only seeing him again but seeing him happy. a second later, however, your gut was twisting itself again. it was a whole new type of uncomfortable, seeing him so happy and knowing how his life could fall apart so soon. you almost wished not to be there with him.
barbara wasn’t as enthusiastic as him. thinking back, you couldn’t remember if you’d ever picked up on that before. you could remember the early parts of their relationship when they were both starstruck in love. but, you couldn’t remember her like this. it wasn’t a huge shift, which was why you didn’t notice it. it was a change so small that you’d only pick up on it if you were looking out to begin with.
you doubted anyone else had noticed, much less dick himself. you couldn’t tell exactly what the shift in her mood was. maybe a bad day, but then she just seemed so normal when she was talking to you. not when you were talking about dick. he seemed to be the odd factor. she seemed awkward when talking about him. did she even notice? if she doesn’t even know what she’s feeling, how are you supposed to?
you couldn’t just stand there and stare at them, that would be weird. you tried to quickly find something to do that would keep you in the cave with the both of them. luck must have been on your side, a few moments later kate came down the elevator shaft. she saw you standing around and walked over, “what’re you up to kiddo?”
“not much, did you go out tonight?”
“no, i stayed in tonight. i’ve gotta big project for work i have to finish.”
and you had a conversation starter, “oh? how’s that going?” as she started talking about work, you chimed in every now and then with basic replies so as to not seem like you were tuning her out. but, from the corner of your eye you watched dick and babs and how they interacted. he was all over her, but she wasn’t reciprocating. was dick picking up on it too? probably not, because he hadn’t shifted the way he was acting yet.
you wondered what they were talking about, and you wondered if it could have to do with why babs was so uninterested. you sat there for another ten, maybe fifteen minutes just talking to kate until it finally hit you. it wasn’t that barbara was uninterested in the topic, or tired from patrol or anything. she was uninterested in him. she was tired of dick. she had fallen out of love.
the sparks just weren’t there for her anymore, but the relationship otherwise wasn’t bad. dick still treated her amazing, and she was happy. but she wasn’t in love. it’s like she was in a relationship with her friend. it just wasn’t the same anymore. that’s why babs felt bad, she still cared for him just not as a partner. you weren’t sure if that made things harder or easier for you, though. you couldn’t talk to barbara, you weren’t sure if she knew she had fallen out of love. you didn’t want to assume something so huge, but the signs had become painfully obvious.
you didn’t want to freak her out by bringing it up, and you couldn’t really bring it up to anyone else. so, you did the only thing you could do. you finished the conversation with kate and made your way to room. you laid down, and went to sleep. all you could do was wait until tomorrow, when you’d be able to talk to bart. bart would know what to do. he always knows what to do. it’s one of the things you love about him. and so you decided that for tonight, you’d just enjoy some sleep.

You were watching Jason train some of the newer kids at Camp Half Blood. He was bored and plus Percy wasn't there right now so he thought why not? You and Jason haven't been dating long, only a few months or so and he has been helping you get better with weapons which led to you asking him this “Can I go next?”
He turned his head to see who said it and saw you. He smiled at how pretty you looked with the sun shining on you and nodded his head for you to get into the circle the campers made while watching Jason.
You quickly tapped your ring for it to turn into a sword(a gift from your godly parent) and got into a fighting position. Jason smiled at you again, the scar on his lip twitching as he did but also got into a fighting position.
You smirked at him and rolled your sword in your hand. “Ready to lose Jason?” He didn't reply and instead moved forward to try and catch you off guard. It didn't work. You blocked his strike and swung your sword to hit him; he ducked and got behind you.
Before he could hit you back you turned around and put a little bit of distance between you. “Not so cocky now hm Y/N?” He taunted from 6 feet in front of you. You chuckled at his attempt at getting you distracted and ran forward at him.
He blocked every move you made and countered it with his own move. Lots more campers started joining the circle and making bets on who would win. You kept blocking each other's moves which lasted longer than usual.
You both backed up again and started to circle each other waiting for the other person’s move. It was Jason who made the move. He tried to move faster to distract you but accidentally went past you instead. Before he could get his senses back you flipped around and knocked his sword out of his hand and into yours.
He turned around and tried to get his sword back but you put your sword to his neck and his sword to the back of his head. You smirked at him again with a happy glint in your eyes as everyone cheered and started to exchange money.
You laughed and dropped the swords away from him. You handed him his sword back while saying “Guess you lost”
He laughed too and grabbed the sword. “Guess I did” He said proudly. You narrowed your eyes “Why do you sound like that?”
“What can I say, I’m proud that my apprentice beat me” He put his arm over your shoulder while he said it. You rolled your eyes but leaned into his side “I'm so not your apprentice if anything you're mine.” His head tilted back as he laughed. “I guess you're right” He kissed the top of your head while he said it.

Darth Vader – Black, White & Red #2 STAR WARS DARTH VADER BLACK, WHITE & RED When Anakin Skywalker turned to the dark side, he became Darth Vader, one of the most powerful Sith of all time. In his service to the evil Galactic Empire, he has left a trail of destruction and terror, striking fear into the hearts of millions across the galaxy…. Writers: Jason Aaron, David Pepose, Victoria Ying Penciller: Leonard Kirk, Alessandro Vitti, Marika Cresta Inker: Leonard Kirk Letterer: Joe Caramagna Colorist: Romulo Fajardo Jr. Cover artist: Adam Kubert Editor: Mark Paniccia Publication date: May 24, 2023 We kick off and return to last issues opening story Hard Shutdown, as Darth Vader finds himself in arguably the trickiest and most physically dangerous predicament we've ever seen him in, chained to a table as the son of the man who designed many of his own cybernetic systems is about to carve him up for sale to the highest bidder. However, this is Darth Vader - the threat looms for only a moment as the scientist about to start chopping suddenly loses control and begins slicing into his own people, and they run out of the room, only half of them managing to escape before the doors seal shut. Vader is using the Force, and Cyn's plans are turned against him as they prepare to shut Vader down for the final time.... We quickly turn to the second story of this second issue The Endless Mercy as Vader and the 501st forcibly enter a Phial-Class Heavy Transport, there to learn more about a secret bioweapon that's being designed. As Vaders troops scour the ship for clues, a huge creature attacks one of the troopers, and quickly they regroup as Vader ignites his blade, but the creatures are too strong and too many and as Vader's helmet is bashed off his head he is soon caught up in a web with his troopers. Vader manages to escape, fighting until he is brought to his knees and here he learns the truth - the queen of these creatures is Doctor Sera Lemare, the woman who was leading the bioresearch. Lemare explains how her research turned her crew into these creatures, how she then became queen to control this new hive mind and as she believes Vader is its newest member, he uses the dark side to fight his way out, sending the vessel screaming into the ground to destroy her and her work and walking from the flames victorious. [gallery link="file" columns="2" size="large" ids="144718,144719"] The third and final chapter Power is a fascinating snapshot of the galaxy and the power that rules it from the point of view of a kid in the Outer Rim. With no frame of reference to measure Vader against, we see young Niko, a keen young reader who's selling water from his rickshaw when he stumbles onto the turf of a streetgang who are less than impressed to see him. Telling Niko that the only thing that counts in the Outer Rim is power they work him over, damaging the vehicle and his droid, but undeterred he carries on, back home where he finds his homestead on fire and his mother panicking. There he sees Noegaud, the leader of the gang who appears to have ignited the flames just as laser blasts erupt and the Empire arrive. Niko watches, then sees Darth Vader on the hunt for a rebel who we realise is Noegaud, and Niko looks in shock....then smiles as Vader walks away. An interesting second issue, with a selection of tales that may well be canon but very much feel more like Star Wars Visions stories. Interesting, enjoyable, with great artwork and some solid situations, this is worth a read but so far not an essential read. [amazon box="B0BZZY7RTS"]

Expanding the Family~ J.T
prompt:‘ I think we should have another’
word count: 650
Jason was an amazing dad and you knew he would be right from the start even despite his nightly activities which you were well aware of. He tried his best to keep you and your daughter away from it all, only bringing you into it when he really needed to be patched up and was closer to your apartment than the manor.
Your daughter was a spitting image of him from the striking blue eyes to her jet black hair though Jason would argue that she got your stubborn attitude which you couldn't argue with as she definitely did. She loved to listen to him read whatever book he was reading, you were sure she didn't quite understand everything he said but just loved spending the time with him and he loved spending time with her. However when they were together and they were silent it almost always meant that they were up to no good probably planning something against you.
Sometimes when Jason was violently woken up from his sleep early in the morning due to his nightmares he would go and find his partner in crime who was sometimes awake depending on the time he would go and read to her. However when she was asleep he would sit in the small rocking chair in her room just making sure she was fine, occasionally he would wake her walking through her room which would end in him snuggling in bed with her or reading her back to sleep. Either way you would usually find him with her in the mornings.
However, this morning was different. For once Jason didn't leave to seek her out during the night and he stayed close to you which you were grateful for. Everything was peaceful until a small voice broke you out of your slumber.
‘Mamma’ she spoke, shaking you awake.
‘What's up baby?’ you whispered slowly, opening your eyes to see your daughter standing before you clutching her teddy.
‘I had a bad dream’ she sniffled
‘Oh baby come here’ you opened your arms letting her up onto the bed trying not to wake Jason up in the process.
She gladly accepted your invitation, snuggling into your arms and quickly falling back to sleep. What you hadn't realised was that your attempt to not wake Jason had failed, only realising he was awake when he shuffled closer to you.
‘She ok?’ he questioned quietly as to not wake up the sleeping child in your arms.
‘She had a nightmare but she's ok. She went straight to sleep.’ you explained.
The three of you laid together for a while until she woke up again. She woke with a groggy yawn before climbing over you towards her father.
‘Morning dada’ she grumbled snuggling into him.
‘Morning baby bird.’ he smiled pulling her closer ‘how about we go and make some breakfast huh?’ he proposed.
This peaked her interest as her little head popped up a big smile playing on her face.
‘Blueberry pancakes?’ she asked hopefully making both Jay and you laugh.
‘I think that can be arranged. Come on, let's go.’ he said, getting up, pulling her with him and setting off to the kitchen.
You get somewhat ready for the day before heading out to see what trouble they were getting into. As you made your way into the kitchen you saw your daughter tucking into her pancakes singing away to the music playing away from the alexa. You grabbed your plate of pancakes sitting down in your place next to her. Jason joined you as you watch your daughter give you a whole dance routine to the song playing making you laugh.
‘I think we should have another’ you said quietly, making Jason turn to you with a smile present on his face.
‘Really?’ he asked eagerly and you nodded.
He rushed towards you pulling you into a hug.

If We Were Fast Enough
Flash!Reader x Flashfamily One-Shot
Word Count: 5.3K Warnings: Explicit Language, Angst
Author's Note: I had this idea after watching a few clips of Flashpoint Paradox! Enjoy! -Thorne
**********************************************************************
Her hand was tightly clasped in his, eyes narrowed in sadness, but there was a pride in them; she felt the speed transfer between them, flowing through her veins and he said, “You’ve got my speed, honey. It’s up to you now.”
The tears that had welled in her vision tipped over and she whispered, “I can’t leave you here, dad. I—I can’t just run away.”
He shook his head. “You’re not running away. You’re surviving.” A groan escaped him, and the pool of blood seemed to double in size. “We’re running out of time. You’ve gotta go before the timeline collapses.”
“Where do I go?” she asked, wiping her eyes. “This universe is home.”
“Honey, Speedsters are Speedsters whichever universe we’re in.” he smiled weakly at her. “You’ll have a family wherever you end up.”
She gazed at him, breathing deeply as fresh tears grew in her gaze. “I’m scared.”
“I know. But you can do this.” he replied, pausing to look her over. “You look just like your mother, honey.” He smiled tearfully. “She’d be so proud of you if she were here now.”
Pulling the cowl over her head, she gave a watery laugh. “Mom always said I looked like you.”
“Nah. You take your speed and nature after me, but you are a spitting image of your mother.” A blast sounded in the distance and they both looked over, eyes widening as the white flash of light grew larger and larger. “You have to go. Now.”
Swallowing thickly, she leaned down and hugged him around his neck as tight as she could, inhaling the scent of ozone and spearmint for the last time. “I love you, dad. I love you so much.” Her fingers dug into his ruined suit as she cried. “I love you.”
He caressed the back of her cowled head. “I love you more, honey.” Pulling away, he leveled her with a firm look. “Now run, Lightning Flash. Run.”
The bluish-white lightning flowed across her body, and she turned, letting her feet carry her across the war-torn field, escaping the atomic blast. The world melted around her, a blur of memories surrounding her: her birthdays, her parents’ faces, her first stroke as a Flash, the start of the war, the deaths of her friends and family, everything up until now.
She was helpless to stop the tears that flowed down her cheeks, the feeling of her heart pounding in her chest, and the booming in her ears as she ripped through the waves of time and the boundaries of space.
A shriek sounded behind her, and she turned her head, eyes widening. “Ah shit!”
The time wraith screamed at her again, reaching out to grab her and she just barely dodged it, turning back to face the flowing warp. She was close. All she had to do was get to the next time boundary and she could lose the wraith.
“Almost there!” she told herself as another bellowed sounded in her ears again, and with one final leap, she burst through the barrier, the waves collapsing around her. The shock of the blast sent her skidding along the ground, and she cried out as she rolled.
Shouts sounded in her ears, humans, but she was more concerned about the screaming time wraith. “I just lost everything! Can’t you just leave me the hell alone!” It shrieked at her again, advancing and anger welled through her as she pushed herself to her feet and she growled, “You wanna dance, you sonovabitch? Then let’s dance.”
Her eyes lit up in a white force and she darted past the wraith, hitting a point above it, then she darted past again, and again and again in a star formation, over and over until all that could be seen was a blur of blue and white. The clouds rumbled above, swirling faster and faster and she hit the top of the star, coming down at the wraith. A burst of lightning cracked from the sky, striking the time being just as she collided with it, and in a hail of blue and white strikes, the wraith exploded into smoking fragments.
As the smoke cleared, the human voices grew louder, but she was sprawled out on the ground, breathing heavily, her body crying under the strain. Someone placed their hand on her shoulder, worrying, “Are you alright?”
She nodded weakly. “Yeah…just gimme a minute. The five-star lightning strike always takes a lot outta me.” Shutting her eyes, she focused on breathing deeply.
“I’ve never seen anyone destroy a time wraith before.”
“It takes practice.” Craning her neck, she opened her eyes, and bit back a sob as the man’s face cleared before hers. “You’re this world’s Flash, aren’t you?” she whispered, “Barry Allen.” His blue eyes widened, and he nodded mutely. “I figured.”
“Who are you?” he asked. “What world did you come from?”
She shook her head. “Doesn’t matter. It’s gone now.” Meeting his gaze once more, she added, “But you can call me the Lightning Flash.”
“What’s your real name?” Barry quizzed.
(Y/N) Allen. And I’d tell you that but all it’d do is bring hurt to both of us.
“(Y/N) Sloan.” She laid her head down, closing her eyes. “I’m gonna take a nap for a while…I’m really…tired…”
His voice called out to her, but all she heard was a warbling noise as she drifted into darkness.
***
When she came to, her head felt like someone had thrown an overripe melon off a balcony ledge and watched it splatter across the ground. She groaned and forced her eyes to open, pushing herself up on her palms.
“Woah, woah, woah!” someone worried. “Take it easy there, Flashy.”
(Y/N) looked over, seeing a familiar green symbol, and an ever more familiar unmasked face. “I’m fine, Hal.”
He blinked. “You know who I am?”
“Please, I’d know that big head of yours from a mile away.” Smirking, she added, “I know everyone in the Justice League.” She grunted, pulling her left arm over her chest, feeling the taut muscles in her back ripple as she stretched them out. “Where am I?”
“The Watchtower.” Hal gazed at her curiously. “Man, when Barry said you knew who he was, I didn’t think he meant you knew all of us.”
“You sound upset that you didn’t get to introduce yourself,” she shot back with a pained grin, stretching her other arm. “If it makes you feel any better, I’ll forget I know you, and you can reintroduce yourself.”
He chuckled and pressed a button on the side of the med bay bed. “Nah, no point now.” He looked down at the small light flashing. “Hey, she’s awake.”
In an instant, a sharp wind blew across the room and there stood the scarlet speedster without his cowl; moments later, the doors opened and in walked the top League members, Superman, Wonder Woman, and Batman.
(Y/N) threw her legs over the side of the bed as they walked over, waving off Barry and Hal who both reached for her, and stood on shaky legs. “Shit, I feel like a newly born giraffe.”
“You shouldn’t be up.” Barry frowned. “You practically tore yourself apart at the molecular level.”
“It was that or be taken by a time wraith,” she shot back, cracking her neck. “How long have I been out?”
“Eighty-six hours,” Batman said, taking her chin in his hand, tipping her head side to side as he shown a light in her eyes. “Your body’s been recovering slower than it should for a Flash.”
(Y/N) blinked. “The particular move does like Barry said it did. It tears the body at the molecular level to contain the speed force into one location.”
“It was dangerous,” Barry scowled, and she couldn’t help but laugh at this younger version of her father who was still just as serious.
“Being a Flash is dangerous.” She felt Batman pull away and she flexed her fingers. “I don’t use the move unless it’s a life-or-death situation.” Glancing at Barry, she questioned, “What earth is this?”
Before he could speak, Batman denounced, “You time jumped, and you don’t know what earth you came into?”
“I didn’t exactly have time to think out a plan while a nuclear blast was going off, Bruce,” she growled, glaring at him from behind the neon blue mask. “And to top it off, I had a time wraith coming after me. I wasn’t in a position to choose which earth I wanted.”
He went silent, gazing at her intently. “Whose names do you know of the Justice League here?”
(Y/N) looked around at the superheroes before her. “You’re all the same Justice League as my earth, but in mine, you’re retired, and your children run the show.”
“I’m sorry, children?” Hal interrupted. “We have—we have children?”
“Some,” she laughed. “Conner Kent is our Superman, Donna Troy is our Wonder Woman, Jason Todd is our Batman, Kyle Rayner is our Green Lantern, and Roy Harper is our Green Arrow.”
“And you?” Superman questioned.
“I’m my Justice League’s Flash. The Lightning Flash.” (Y/N) smiled wearily. “The fastest woman alive.” She toyed with the blue and white gauntlet. “At least now I am.”
“You said you were our kids?” Hal said. “Are you Barry’s daughter?”
The two Speedsters looked at each other and she answered calmly, “No. My transformation into the Flash was a freak accident, much like Wally West’s. That being said, I’m not related to the Flashfamily by blood.”
“Hmm.” Batman grunted, then turned, wandering off. “You need to rest up more then we’ll run tests.”
“Only if she consents.” Barry called out.
Bruce stopped, not even bothering to look over his shoulder as he retorted, “She’s a Speedster from another universe. We need more information before we can let her loose in anyone’s city.”
As he wandered off, she placed her hands on her hips and griped, “God, I miss Jason being Batman. He’s less of a jerk-off about new things.”
Superman chuckled, resting a hand on her shoulder. “Don’t take it the wrong way…(Y/N), was it?”
She nodded. “Yeah, (Y/N) Sloan.” Sticking her hand out, she added, “It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
“Pleasure’s all mine,” he murmured, shaking her hand strongly, then he pulled away. “He is right though. You should get some more rest before you wander around the Watchtower.”
She waved it off. “I’ll be alright. If you’ve got a treadmill designed for Speedsters though, I’d like to run a bit.”
“I’ll show you where it is,” Barry answered, leading her from the group. As they walked down the hallway, she paused, leaning against the wall as a wave of nausea came over her; he caught it instantly. “Are you okay?” he frowned. “We should go back to the med bay.”
“No.” she grunted. “I’m fine. Just…just gimme a moment.” Shaking it off, she squared her shoulders. “I absorbed speed from the remaining Speedsters on my world before I left. It’s just taking a toll on me.”
“Why absorb their speed?” he asked, and she could tell from his voice that there was a level of suspicion in it.
“Because it was the only way to keep it from being stolen by our enemies as we were being slaughtered.” (Y/N) looked down the hall. “We can go now. It’s passed.” She bypassed him, wandering down the hallway, though she kept a hand on the railing the entire time.
***
It wasn’t a surprise that they sent her back to Central City with Barry after the few tests she’d let them run. Only tests on the outside, no blood or DNA samples for them to investigate. Barry’s apartment was cramped and there wasn’t room for them both to be in the kitchen, but she’d lived there before, so ducking under his arms and turning around him was second nature.
And Barry, bless the kindhearted soul he was, tried at every opportunity to make her comfortable in the home. (Y/N) respected it, knowing that even worlds apart, Barry Allen was still Barry Allen. She watched him sometimes. When he was sitting on the sofa or at the bar, flipping through paperwork or reading a book on physics. He always lost track of time, forgot what was happening around him, but his face showed ease. Peace. Like the world wasn’t on his shoulders.
It made her miss her father. It made her miss her family and friends. Her world. (Y/N) cried at night on the couch, silent tears dripping down her cheeks as she remembered every last moment of her family and friends’ lives. She’d been lucky in the end to come out unscathed. But her father, his friends, her friends, all dead. All killed in a pointless war that ended with the entire world blown to hell—and she was the only one left.
She sat beside the window, gazing down at the quiet street below her; she felt like crying, but by now, she’d cried out every tear, and all that remained was the hole drilled in her chest, empty and aching.
“(Y/N)?” Glancing over, she saw Barry coming out from his bedroom, brows furrowing at her. “Are you okay?”
Shrugging, she looked back out the window. “I don’t know if I’ll ever be okay again, Barry.” It was hard to not call him ‘dad’ all the time, and weird to call him ‘Barry’.
She felt him sit opposite of her on the little bench. “Can I help you anyway?”
It took a while for her to speak, but when she did, her voice was barely above a whisper. “It’s all gone. My life. All of it. I’m the only one left from my world.” She swallowed the lump in her throat. “I’m…alone.” His hand rested on hers and she felt tears well in her gaze. “I miss my family…and I miss my friends.”
She shook her head, looking at him. “Why my world? Why us?” tears slipped down her cheeks. “Everything was fine one moment and the next thing any of us knew, the world was going to war, and we couldn’t stop it.” A loathing laugh escaped her. “We were the Justice League. The proteges of the greatest heroes and yet we couldn’t stop war.”
(Y/N) wiped her tears. “We failed. I failed.”
“What happened wasn’t your fault, (Y/N).” Barry murmured. “You know that.”
“It feels like it.” She countered. “What do I have to show for all my saving? A sole survivor stuck in a world that has no need for her.”
His eyes were narrowed in concern, the way her father’s used to do when she’d tell him of her troubles and doubts. “There’s always a need for us. Everyone one of us.”
“Speedsters?” she asked, and he squeezed her hand.
“If the universe wanted you dead, you’d be dead, (Y/N). But you’re here and you’re alive.” He smiled sadly. “You can’t outrun the past. But you can change the direction you’re running in.”
She gazed at him and for once in the past few weeks she’d been there, she felt her heart lighten. “Thank you, Barry.”
He smiled warmly at her and patted her hand. “Since we’re both awake…wanna go for a run?”
(Y/N) chuckled and nodded her head. “Yeah. It’d certainly help burn off the emotions.” She held out her hand and Barry looked at the ring on her finger.
“Wow, your ring is cool.” He took her hand, gazing intently at it. “I noticed your suit isn’t red like most of us Speedsters are. Yours is mainly blue and white.”
She nodded. “It was too complicated to call myself Flash since there were more than one, so I took the name Lightning Flash and designed my suit the colors associate with lighting.” (Y/N) vibrated and reappeared in her suit. “Blue and white.”
“With silver trimming,” he added, poking the mask she wore, and she batted his hand away.
“Hey, gold’s overrated.”
Barry’s face pinched as he vibrated into his suit. “Is not!”
“Is too! It’s the colors for the Seminoles.”
He placed a hand to his chest. “I can’t believe you just told me my colors were FSU’s colors. I’ve been fatally wounded.”
“You’re a drama queen,” (Y/N) laughed then started towards the door. “Race you to Coast City!”
Barry sped after her. “Why Coast City!”
“Because it’s California, man!” she watched as he matched her speed. “And Hal’s apartment always has Doritos!”
“I think you might have a crush on our resident Green Lantern,” Barry teased and (Y/N) gagged.
“Dude, gross.”
“Oh, come on! Don’t tell me you aren’t friends with your Green Lantern!”
“The best, but Kyle and I were only friends! My dalliance fell with another team member!”
“Batman?” he asked, and she nodded.
“Batman.”
“Oh. Lovely.” Barry sighed. “You and Jason Todd seem like a wonderful pair.”
(Y/N) snorted. “Contrary to popular belief, Jason was actually a fantastic Batman. He loved it, oddly enough.”
“That is odd,” the Speedster countered. “Because as far as I know, none of the Batkids want to be Batman.”
She merely laughed in return, passing the Coast City sign.
***
“You know these aren’t…my world folks, right?”
He smiled, watching the group of young adults across the room laugh and joke around. “I know, but the lot of us thought it would be good if you got together with the age group of you own.” Barry looked over. “Besides, I think you’re going to fit right in with this world’s group.”
(Y/N) tipped her head side to side, huffing a laugh as Jason thumped Kyle in the side. “We’ll see.” She let Barry lead her over and the small group perked up at their arrival.
“Hey guys, thanks for coming on such short notice. I know you were busy.”
Jason crossed his arms over his chest. “So, why did the League invite us all?”
Barry gestured to (Y/N). “I’d like everyone to meet (Y/N) Sloan. She’s a Speedster who recently arrived on this earth.”
“Recently?” Roy asked and he nodded.
“There was a…problem on her earth.” He glanced at her and nodded, prompting her to speak.
“My world isn’t in the general stream of timelines anymore.” She smiled awkwardly. “I came here to…survive more or less.” Holding out her hand for one of them to shake, she said, “But it’s a pleasure to meet you all.”
“You know who we are?” Kyle asked as he shook her hand.
“Yeah. This world is surprisingly similar to mine, Kyle.” (Y/N) smiled with a little less awkwardness. “I know all of you.” Her eyes fell on Jason who was watching her closely, teal eyes narrowed in calculation. “Penny for your thoughts?”
He hummed. “Who are we over there?”
At that, all the awkwardness fell away. “You don’t wanna know,” she giggled, and his face dropped.
“No.” she nodded, and he whispered, “Me?”
“You.”
“I’m confused,” Roy interrupted, and Donna snickered.
“I think Jason’s the Batman of (Y/N)’s world.”
“HA!” everyone dissolved into hysterics as Jason proceeded to all but cry.
“I don’t wanna be Batman!” he whined. “Why am I Batman! Why not anyone else!”
(Y/N) laughed. “What are you talking about? You volunteered to be Batman.”
“Jesus, I must’ve lost my mind then,” Jason retorted, then looked at her. “Do I carry guns?”
“Non-lethal rounds.”
“Damnit.” He sulked. “Can’t freakin’ believe I’m the Batman on your world and I willingly put the suit on.”
“You were a good Batman,” she stated. “There wasn’t anyone I trusted more to watch my back on the team.”
He met her gaze, seemingly shocked, though it only lasted a minute as he quizzed, “So if I’m Batman, does that make all of us…?”
(Y/N) nodded. “Yep. Wonder Woman, Superman, Green Arrow, and Green Lantern.”
“And you?” Kyle asked.
“Lightning Flash,” she answered coolly. “The fastest woman alive.” Meeting their gazes, she tipped her head down. “I know you’re not them…but I do hope we can be friends.” She smiled. “You can never have too many of those, no matter what world you’re on.”
Kyle looked over at Barry who was almost crying. “We get to keep her, right? Because if we don’t, I’m going to be very upset.”
(Y/N) snorted and wrapped a loose arm around his waist. “Don’t worry, Kyle. I’m not going anywhere anytime soon.” A growling sounded and her cheeks warmed as she pressed a hand to her stomach. “Sorry about that.”
Jason laughed, getting to his feet. “I guess Speedster stomachs are the same no matter what world you’re on.”
“Isn’t that the truth,” Barry retorted, and the vigilante looked at her.
“Wanna annoy Batman and hang around Gotham City?”
(Y/N) nodded. “Absolutely.”
“Wait for me!” Roy shouted, yanking his legs from the table, and soon the others were following.
Barry watched them as they walked to the Zeta-Tubes, laughing and ribbing one another like they’d been friends since childhood; someone nudged him in the side, murmuring, “She’s gonna be okay.”
He nodded as Hal settled beside him. “Yeah…I know she will.” He smiled as (Y/N) leaned into Jason’s side and brought a hand to her eyes, wiping the tears away. “She’s already fitting in better than I thought.”
“(Y/N)’s a strong woman,” Hal acknowledged. “She acts a lot like you in that aspect.”
“How so?” Barry inquired and the Lantern shrugged.
“Well, you can’t get her to stop attending League meetings no matter what Batman says, and she’s always ready to put herself on the line for us.” Hal huffed a laugh. “And she treats me like I’m an old man. I’m thirty-eight and she acts like I’m fifty-six.” He looked at Barry. “But she flows in the world like you, Barry. Her mannerisms, her styles, her speech, it’s all you.”
The Speedster frowned, quietly stating, “You think she’s my future daughter, don’t you?”
Hal shrugged. “She doesn’t look like you, but she’s comfortable around you. Like she knows she’s safe if you’re there with her.”
“Why lie about it though?” Hal could tell Barry was hurt. “Wouldn’t she want to tell me?”
“If you lost everything and showed up in another world where there was a parent still alive, would you act like nothing changed or would you keep it at arms-length?”
Barry sighed. “You’re…right.” He shook his head. “I didn’t even think of that.” His frown deepened. “She must hate looking at me though. I’m not her dad but I’m another version of him.”
“She doesn’t hate you, Barry.” Hal said, clasping his hand on his best friend’s shoulder. “She’s just…trying to keep it all together and not mix this world with hers.”
“I feel connected with her.” He admitted. “The speed force works funny like that. We can feel other speedsters—we know their speeds and auras.” His voice became soft. “Hers feels like…like…”
“Like?” Hal encouraged and Barry sighed.
“Her aura feels like when I went back in time and saved my mom.” He shook his head. “It’s hard to explain but she feels like—”
“Like family.”
Barry gaped at Hal. “Yeah…that’s exactly it.”
Hal nodded. “She’s still your daughter even worlds apart.”
“What do I say to her?”
“Don’t.” he answered. “Let her come to you about it.”
“That sounds like a good idea,” Barry agreed.

The group had dispersed as quickly as it had come together, not that she was overly upset—she knew they all had prior engagements and teams to be apart of, but she would’ve been lying to say that it hadn’t saddened her a bit. Jason and Kyle, however, seemed to be the only ones that were usually around, Jason more than the latter.
(Y/N) liked being around Jason. He was much more hotheaded than she was used to, but she decided that like the Flashes, Jason Todd was Jason Todd no matter what universe he was in.
He was a little more reckless than she knew, playing fast and loose with the game, but he knew where his feet landed with each jump, and he was there when she needed help, her the same.
It hadn’t taken him long to deduce that the two of them were more than friends in her world, making the joke that she was his Catwoman—she’d cried she’d laughed so hard, but it given them time to talk about everything that had happened to her and her world; most importantly, her father.
She watched as Jason reclined against the cool stone of the ledge, passing one of the wrapped cheeseburgers to her. “Thank you,” she murmured, unwrapping it.
“Mhm,” he hummed, sipping his milkshake, setting his hood beside him; he swallowed and looked over. “What’s on your mind?”
(Y/N) blinked. “What are you talking about?” he merely cocked a brow and she sighed. “I forgot you could read people well.”
“Well maybe if you were a book and not a pamphlet, it’d be harder.”
“Did you just call me simple?”
“Never.” He waved it off. “What are you thinking about?”
She sighed again and set her half-eaten burger aside, pulling her knees to her chest as she whispered, “My mom’s maiden name was Sloan.”
Jason arched a brow. “You go by ‘Sloan’. Was your mom married?”
“My parents were. She died from cancer when I was ten.”
“I’m sorry,” he lamented, and she smiled.
“Thank you.” (Y/N) looked over. “My last name is Allen.”
His eyes widened. “As in Barry Allen, Allen?”
“Yeah…my dad.”
Jason blinked. “Holy shit.”
“Mhm.” She propped her chin on her knees. “The reason I’m just as fast as Wally West in this world is because I absorbed my dad’s speed before I left mine.” (Y/N) gazed at the city. “And then I left him to die in the blast.”
“You know that wasn’t your fault.”
She huffed. “So Barry’s told me.”
Jason stared at her. “Why do you live with him in Central City?”
“Because I don’t have anywhere else to go,” she answered. “And I…I—”
“You miss your dad.” He answered for her, and she nodded, feeling warmth gather in her eyes and she squeezed them shut.
“Yeah…it’s not him but…”
“It’s the only thing you’ve got that’s close enough to him.”
“Yeah.”
Jason nodded. “You’re welcome to come live with me over here.”
(Y/N) looked over at him. “I can’t do that, Jason.”
“Why not?”
She laughed. “We barely know each other.”
He shrugged. “We know each other enough.” Gazing at her, he added, “I’m not your world’s Jason, but we must be similar enough because I’ve seen and felt you fall behind me during fights, being at my six when I didn’t have it covered.” He smiled. “You know me, (Y/N), and I’d like to know you too.”
She merely gaped at him, then huffed a laugh. “I think that’s the most similar thing to my world’s Jason that I’ve heard you say.”
“Oh, come on!” he griped. “He couldn’t be that different from me!”
(Y/N) smiled. “Robins.”
Jason blanched. “I had Robins?”
“You had a son, who was exactly like you right now.”
“I wanna ask about the son, but what do you mean right now?”
“Oh, you know…hotheaded, anti-social, antagonistic.”
“You’re cute,” he scowled, then looked into the distance. “I can’t imagine bringing my kid with me.”
(Y/N) giggled. “Please, it took him like five years of complete begging on his knees before you’d even let him put on the suit, let alone go out with you.” She reached over and pushed hair behind his ear. “You were a good father…a good man.” Her expression turned sad. “I wasn’t fast enough to save either of you.”
Jason leaned into her touch, a frown on his face. “They know you tried, (Y/N).”
Tears gathered in her eyes. “I hope they knew that.” She shook her head as the tears started to spill over. “I lost everyone. You, JJ, my dad and all my friends.” (Y/N) stared at him through the tears. “How do I just start over after all that?”
He pushed the takeout bags out of the way and scooted over, pulling her to his chest; she buried her face in his suit and he propped his chin on the crown of her head. “I wish I had an answer for you.” He rubbed circles in her back. “But I do know that you can either let this keep you down, or you can get back up. Because if you don’t…then every life lost was in vain for you to survive.”
“I take it back,” she blubbered. “Your philosophical bullshit life lessons are the most Jason thing I’ve heard.”
He smiled, squeezing her tight. “That’s what we’re gonna call it now. Philosophical bullshit life lessons.” Jason pressed a kiss to her head. “It’s going to be okay, (Y/N). It’ll get better.”
***
It’d been a full year since she’d come to the new earth. She hadn’t moved in with Jason yet, but the moving boxes on the couch were the start of it—and she hadn’t told Barry she was leaving, or that he was her dad. (Y/N) wasn’t sure how to break that seal just yet.
She wandered around the tiny apartment, smiling at all the memories she’d made in the past year, and into his bedroom, where she paused at his dresser. A gold ring rested on top of it, and she picked it up, flipping it in her hand.
A woosh sounded from the door. “I’m home!” Barry’s voice trailed off in confusion and he called, “(Y/N)?”
“Here.”
He appeared in her peripheral, but she didn’t take her eyes off the ring, still gazing at the center stones. “There are boxes on the couch.”
“I’m moving in with Jason over in Gotham.”
“Oh…” he murmured, then took sight of what she had in her hands. “Is that—”
“Nora’s wedding ring?” she nodded. “Yeah.”
“How’d you know it was my mom’s?” Barry asked, stepping up to her and she finally looked at him, meeting his eyes.
“Because I had the same one in my world.” (Y/N) searched his gaze. “But you don’t seem surprised by that fact.” She sighed. “How long have you known?”
Barry’s face contorted in shame. “A few weeks after you got here.”
“Why didn’t you say something?”
He shook his head. “Hal said—” he sighed. “I wanted to wait until you said something to me about it. I was afraid if I did, you’d run.”
(Y/N)’s brows pulled together, lips pulling down sadly. “Barry…”
“I know I’m not your dad,” he whispered. “But I know, (Y/N). I can feel it.”
She felt her lips wobble and before she knew it, she was throwing herself into his arms, wrapping hers around his waist as tight as she could. “Dad.”
Barry’s arms came around her, one holding the back of her head, the other in the middle of her back. “I’m here, (Y/N).”
“I missed you so much,” she cried. “I wasn’t fast enough to save them, and I couldn’t save you either.”
“No,” he said. “You did everything you could. I know you did.”
“But I wasn’t fast enough.” (Y/N) sobbed. “You had to give me your speed so I could run away. Like a coward.”
“Like a survivor,” Barry corrected. “You’ve never run away.” He ran his fingers through her hair. “You’re a survivor, (Y/N). And your dad made sure of that.” He pulled away slightly, tears of his own dripping down his cheeks. “You’re fast enough.” She shut her eyes as more tears rolled down her cheeks and he pressed his lips to her forehead. “And no matter what world you’re on, you’re still my daughter.”
A laugh that sounded much more like a sob escaped her and she hugged him again. “I love you, dad.”
Barry smiled, holding her tight. “I love you more, honey.”

The Set-Up
Author: @wordsfromthesol Taglist: @zphilophobiaz @anousiemay @malfoys-demigod @pricetagofficial Pairing: Jason Todd x Reader Summary: You are Dinah's younger sister. Word Count: 2,410 A/N: I know it’s been awhile so if anyone wants on/off a taglist just let me know!
"Alright, Roy, you got me here. What's so important?" You called out as you stumbled into what the Outlaws deemed a safehouse. Their standards were pretty low.
"We needed a fourth, okay! Go get Jason and I'll brief everyone." Roy hurried you out of the room that he and Kory were already set up in. You sauntered up to the closed door and knocked.
"Jason, you decent?" You shouted as your fist rapped against the wood.
"Well I'm not morally decent, but I'm wearing pants if that's what you're asking. Though I can be without pants if that's what you prefer --" Jason's voice trailed off as he swung open the door and was met with your face. Clearly, he figured the person on the other side would be Roy or Kory. His face slightly reddened as he reached back and grabbed a shirt.
"I mean…maybe not right now. Roy needs to go over the mission with us." You winked at his obvious embarrassment before trotting off in the direction you came from. Jason quickly caught up with you.
"I…uh…I didn't know Roy asked you for help."
"Yeah he didn't really tell me much. Just that you guys needed a fourth. Not sure why he thinks I'll make that much of a difference.
"Guess we should go find out." Jason raced past you, hoping to avoid further embarrassment, but stopped dead in his tracks as he entered the living room. Roy and Kory were both staring at him, trying to hold back fits of laughter. "What is this all-important mission Y/N was recruited on?" He asked in an attempt to redirect their attention. You walked in behind Jason just in time to get the answer.
"Not really all-important…" Roy's voice reeked of mischief, "just better to have four than three. Then we can do two teams."
"You do know that I have my own agenda. I'm not just sitting around waiting for your call."
"Oh Y/N/N! Don't think of it like that, I practically begged him to ask you. I seriously need some more girl time." Kory piped in to release some of the building tension.
"Uh-huh, sure. Roy, what are we doing?"
"Right. Human trafficking, finally got a hit on this group. Think it's their main smuggling port. There are two docks to check, so two teams. See, I do have a plan. Kinda…"
"Hm mm" you mumbled, still not fully believing him, but you let him continue anyways. You didn't fly out here for nothing.
**
Hours had passed and the four of you sat near the docks, waiting for the cover of nightfall. The smugglers, however, did not. You grabbed Jason's arm and began running towards the dock as soon as you saw a boat pulling into the harbor.
"What are you doing?" Jason mumbled as he ran to keep up with you.
"Are you blind? There's a container ship pulling into the docks. The dock that Roy told us to watch."
"The sun is still setting. There's no way they'd be that stupid." He tried to reason with you, but your pace didn't slow.
"Maybe they just paid the right people. Or killed them." You retorted though the timing was eerily suspicious. Both of you came to a halt when you only saw four guys. Sure, they had guns…but it definitely wasn't enough to warrant extra help. You glanced over at Jason in utter disbelief. "You want me to sit this one out or…"
"Let's just get it over with." Jason was clearly just as agitated as you were. The "battle" lasted only a few seconds and your trip back to the rendezvous spot was completed in utter silence.
"So…Roy. Why the fuck was I needed here?" Holding nothing back, you cried out as soon as you saw his red costume appear in the distance.
"Woah, hold up there. Must've gotten some bad intel. It happens. Better safe than sorry."
"Yeah well next time be sure. I do have my own cases and crime rings to dismantle." You walked off in a huff, determined to find your own way back. You didn't know what exactly Roy was up to, but you knew you wouldn't like it.
**
Months passed since the pointless mission with the Outlaws. You had gotten back to Miami, your home for the time being as you investigated a new drug trade route coming up from South America. Finally, you had made some progress, only said progress led to you being pinned down behind some wooden barrels.
"These aren't going to last long," you mumbled as you dialed Kory on your phone. No answer. "Fuck." Roy was next.
"Y/N, can this wait --" You hear the wind get pushed out of him just as the sentence finished.
"Hm not really. Kinda been pissing off the wrong people and now I'm pinned down."
"Fuck." Roy mumbled as he threw a punch towards the jaw of the unsuspecting thug.
"I tried Kory, but -- shit…" You watched as the barrels splintered around you.
"Off-world. I'm patching in Jas --" Roy stopped a syllable short, you assumed dodging his own bullets. You didn't wait for him to finish.
"Yeah look. I'm in Miami." You heard Jason mumble your name but continued on. You didn't know how much longer you would have. "Pretty sure they'll take me alive. Heard through the grapevine the boss wants the honors himself." You sucked in a sharp breath as you felt a bullet pierce through your shoulder. You took a few steadying breaths before continuing. "I have a tracer in my mask. I'll try to keep it on as long as I can. If you can't track it for some reason, call my sister." You didn't hang up the call before slowly raising your hands above the splintered barrels. "Take me to your leader," you exclaimed in your best alien impression, all while trying not to laugh.
"Do you think this is a game?!" One of the thugs screamed at you as they inched closer. You just shrugged, waiting to either be killed or taken. "Well grab her, idiots!" Two men hesitantly walked towards you, guns still drawn.
"Should I tie myself up? Would that be easier?" At this point, your sarcasm was the only thing keeping you sane. Finally, they got within striking distance and everything went black.
"Y/N? What's happening?!" Jason frantically began calling out your name as he was met with silence. Roy eventually spoke up.
"Jason. I hope you're on your way. I'll meet up with you as soon as I can, but I need to get ahold of Dinah first." Roy had no idea what he was going to say to her.
"Even in the jet, it's going to take 2 hours to get there…" The reality of the situation set it. "But I'm taking off now." Jason tried to push the horrific thoughts from his mind.
**
You woke up tied to a wooden chair. Not surprising.
"So, where's the boss?" You forced the words out, willing yourself into consciousness.
"Don't worry girlie, he's on his way…though I suppose there's nothing wrong with having a little fun first." The goon smirked as he flipped a knife in his hands.
"Well, you wouldn't want to damage the merchandise." You could tell he wasn't sold, so you continued. "I mean I'm dead either way, right? Wouldn't want you to risk your life as well…" He just stared blankly at you while the gears turned in his mind. Finally, he let out an exasperated huff and turned his back to you. At least you were able to buy yourself a little more time. Though you had a feeling it still wouldn't be enough. As your head began spinning, you looked down at your shoulder. The blood was still pouring out of the wound. "Of course…" you mumbled as the dizziness intensified. You were going to have to think of something quickly.
"So, how'd you get stuck with this job? Or are you just some disposable errand boy who got lucky?" You began antagonizing him as you attempted to saw through the ropes with the small blade that discharged out of your gloves.
"Lucky?" He turned towards you with a villainous look plastered across his face. He sauntered towards you and placed his hands on either side of the chair. "I've been following you. I know your patterns. When you strike. That ambush was calculated and planned. Boss sent me 'cuz he knew I'd get the job done." Before he could push himself up from the chair, you launched forward, ramming your head into his. As he crashed to the floor, another burly man rushed into the room. You managed to free one of your legs just in time. As he stumbled backward you bent down in an attempt to free your other leg. The man lunged at you again. Pulling the other leg free, you circle around and hurled the chair at him. You let out a huge sigh of relief and slid to the floor as he landed atop the first assailant.
**
Jason watched as men patrolled around the building. Just as he was about to move Roy's voice came over the comm, "Have you found her? What's the situation? I'm still an hour out."
"I found her. They have four guards patrolling. Heavily armed. I found an opening."
"Four patrolling…you can't get any intel about who's inside? I think you should wait for me to get there." Roy already knew there was no hope of that.
"We may not have a chance if I wait. I'm going in."
Jason heard his best friend sigh, before eventually relenting. "Keep me updated. I'll be there when I can." Jason saw his opening coming up again. He moved quickly and quietly, sliding into the open door. He took in his surroundings, trying to not alert anyone of his presence unless absolutely necessary. He didn't want to give any of them a reason to shoot you…that is, if you were still alive. As he rounded the corner, he came face to face with a brutish man. Jason launched himself forward, knocking them both to the ground as he muffled the goon's mouth with his hand and encapsulated his neck. It only took a few seconds before the guard was out cold and Jason continued lurching down the hallway. He stopped short of a closed door. Jason took a deep breath, preparing himself for whatever awaited him on the other side.
**
You were jolted awake a few moments later and looked around to find the two men still unconscious on the ground. Crawling over, you pulled at one of their jackets and cut off a long piece. It took the last bit of your energy to tie it around your still bleeding shoulder. As your eyes began to flutter closed once again, they shot open at the sound of the door opening. You forced your head upwards and let out a faint chuckle at the familiar Red Hood that looked down at you.
"Solis!" Jason's eyes went wide as he saw the amount of blood in the room. "Shit alright. I need you to stay awake, okay?" You nodded and forced your eyes open as Jason dove down beside you, properly retying the fabric around your shoulder. Jason stared at you for a few moments before pushing himself up and firing a single shot down the hallway. You watched intently as the goons came running in, Jason plowing through them in a matter of minutes. Jason scooped you up, not bothering to try and gather any further information from you.
**
You woke up in a bed in an unfamiliar room. Your brain began piecing together the events. Jason had come to get you, then put you in a car, brought you here, sewed up the wound…you wondered how long you'd been asleep. The door creaked open and you saw both Roy and Jason standing in its frame.
"You're awake! Thank fuck, D would've killed me!" Roy rushed over and embraced you.
"Yeah probably…" You were speaking to Roy, but you couldn't take your eyes off Jason. There was something there, unspoken, that you couldn't remember. What had happened? How long had you been asleep? As if reading your mind, Jason spoke up.
"It's only been 12 hours," he watched your eyes go wide. "Before you freak out, you lost a lot of blood and were barely hanging on to consciousness. 12 hours is not that many. You'll still be weak." Jason began to step towards you but hesitated. Roy immediately noticed the awkwardness his presence brought.
"Imma just…I'll go get us some food…or something." Roy pointed towards the door and rushed out.
"I feel like I'm missing something."
"No…I just. I was worried." You leered at him, knowing that was not what you were missing. You carefully sat up and swung your legs over the bed, determined to get to the bottom of whatever feeling this was. Once you attempted to stand, Jason was at your side in a fraction of a second. "I just said you would be weak…" he mumbled out.
"Well I have to go to the bathroom and you aren't giving me answers anyways." You tried to push him away. It unsurprisingly did not work.
"How long have I known you? For once, just stop being so damn stubborn!" He grabbed your shoulders, in an effort to steady both of you.
"I dunno like 8 years…" you grumbled out, unsure if the question was meant to be answered.
"Yeah well for 7 and a half of those I've loved you. And it just hit me that you could die…hell I could I die, and you wouldn't know." His hands traced down your arms and collapsed at his side. "I guess that just broke me, okay? Are you happy now?!" The anger in his voice rose.
"So how about those pants now?" You smirked, trailing your eyes over his body. Jason's eyes lit up as he began to laugh, recalling the situation from months prior.
"Maybe not right now…let's wait until you can stand on your own."
"JUST KISS HER ALREADY GOD DAMMIT!" Roy screamed from the doorway. Neither of you knew how long he'd been there, but that didn't deter Jason. His lips smashed into yours while his arms enveloped you.
"FUCKING FINALLY!" Roy screamed as he threw his hands up in the air.

🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
Saturday, October 31st
You look like an idiot.
The nurse uniform you have on is obnoxiously cliché; short and tattered in various places to really sell the "sexy" aspect of it, little is left to the imagination. Fake blood stains dot the flimsy material in random patterns and mat some strands of the tacky blonde wig atop your head, making you look like something out of a B-movie at best.
A bonafide, absolute idiot.
When you express that sentiment to your best friend, she just rolls her eyes and holds out one last costume for you to try on. She had a few lined up in case you didn't like her other options, and clearly that's come in handy; you've already worked through the previous picks, so she crosses her fingers as your eyes skim over this one.
"Humor me, will you?" She asks, hoping that you'll give in and at least check this last one out.
"Fine, but this is your last chance. It had better be good." You raise a pointed finger at her in warning.
"I have a good feeling about this one," she says, smiling as you take the bag from her and slip into the dressing room one final time.
Her phone chimes soon after, and she's quick to retrieve it from her pocket.
Willow: Are you guys almost here?? Jackson's been asking about you.
Your best friend bites her lip at that, nervously nibbling on it as she rereads the message to make sure she didn't imagine the last part. She's liked Jackson since middle school, and he'll be swinging by the party that you've all been invited to; that's one of the main reasons she begged you to come with her tonight.
Y/BFFs/N: Still getting ready. We'll be there ASAP tho!
Willow: Alright, we'll see you soon. Don't take all night, or else👩🤛
Y/BFFs/N: Yah, cut the violence!
The sound of your best friend's soft giggling fills the air just as you manage to fasten the costume's last zipper and pull its hood over your head.
Surprise etches its way into your features as you do a spin, taking in the sight of yourself through the full length mirror of the dressing room. The outfit's red and black color schemes complement each other beautifully, giving you a powerful and sensual appeal that the other costumes didn't even stand a chance of doing. You look alluring in every sense of the word.
"Holy shit," your best friend says when you emerge, striking a pose. "You look hot!" She squeals, clapping a few times in quick succession.
There's no way you think this one looks bad.
"I think Wanda would be proud," you grin, tilting your head up and wrapping the cape around your neck.
"One hundred percent," Y/BFFs/N nods adamantly, in total agreement. The Scarlet Witch getup really compliments your features.
"Now," she starts, changing topics as she looks in the reflection of her phone's dark screen to adjust some of her hair that's gone astray. "Let's pay and then go. Willow's looking for us, and my future man's wondering where I am, too."
"Hell yeah!" You chuckle, patting her on the back. "I'll help you finally land him so you can stop pining."
You watch as she takes a moment to decide between coming up with a decent rebuttal to defend herself or agreeing with you, and you smile when she goes for the latter.
"I'd accept nothing less," she says, holding her head high like a princess. "You are my wingwoman, after all."
"And the best one in town," you add, tugging her towards the register. She reaches into her purse and pulls out the money to pay before politely handing it to the cashier.
The teenage boy takes it with a small smile, though the action looks a little comical as his upper lip gets caught on the cheap, plastic fangs he's sporting. His knock-off version of Dracula is definitely…. something… and you can tell that his managers forced him to wear it for the holiday.
"Come back and s-shhee us," he says, handing your change back. Your best friend takes it, failing to contain her laughter at his messy speech. He blushes crimson, likely cursing the plastic teeth for making him look a fool.
"We surely will," you respond, giving him a comforting smile to keep his embarrassment at bay. He nods gratefully, and you're quickly pulled out of the store by your best friend.
"Happy Halloween!" You shout over your shoulder, accompanied by the chime of the bell over the door.
"You too," he calls back, letting out a soft sigh.
---
20 Minutes Later -- The Party
Upon rounding the front of your car and stepping up onto the sidewalk outside of Willow's house, your attention is immediately caught by the numerous decorations that she put up last week.
"Huh," you mumble, gazing up at the skeleton that towers above you, standing 12 feet tall. "I think it's safe to say that this is her favorite holiday…"
"What makes you think that?" Your best friend plays, feigning ignorance as she pops up from behind a life-sized, animatronic Jason Voorhees.
"I don't know," you tut, admiring Willow's hard work a little longer. "Just a feeling."
Y/BFFs/N giggles in her unique way, making you smile at the sound as the two of you make your way up the path towards the house. You gaze down at your feet, careful to step on the stones of the walkway and avoid the motion-activated hands that scramble out of the weeds to grab unsuspecting guests.
Having known Willow your entire childhood, you've grown used to her ways.
*knock knock*
A strong, iconic synth bassline sounds off from inside, filling the otherwise quiet night around you with its catchy beat as you wait to be let in. Its sound is well known, and you almost instantly recognize it as "Sweet Dreams" by the Eurythmics.
A few seconds later, you hear clambering from inside, followed by concerning groans and shouted apologies.
Y/BFFs/N arches a skeptical brow at you, perfectly mirroring your thoughts.
Directly after, the door swings open in a flash, and you're nearly tackled by a whizz of curly hair.
"There you guys are!" Willow shrieks, pulling the two of you close as she nuzzles her face against your cheeks.
"Yep, here we are," you struggle out, nearly being strangled in her tight grip. She responds by squeezing you even tighter, blinded by her joy at seeing you again.
After all, it's been a while since all three of you have had the opportunity to spend the night partying together like this.
"Can't… breathe," Y/BFFs/N squeaks, successfully getting Willow to release you.
"Sorry," she apologizes, stepping back. "I'm just so happy you're here."
The freckles that spread across the bridge of her nose look especially adorable with the blush she's sporting, and her shy grin makes you forget about the near-fatality you just encountered moments before.
"We're happy to be here," you reassure her, returning her smile.
Your best friend agrees from beside you, nodding her head with a happy look of her own. "Believe it or not, we've missed your weirdness." She adds, cocking her head to the side.
Willow giggles again, and her eyes crinkle up into those half crescents that could surely melt even the iciest of hearts. She's practically sunshine in human form, and you have to resist the urge to shield your eyes.
"Yo, Willow! Who's at the door?"
Jackson.
You feel your best friend tense beside you, and you subtly pat her leg to calm her down.
Willow falls silent, though her lips go through the beginning stages of answering him; they open and purse, but she quickly halts her reply and shuts her mouth. She knows of Y/BFFs/N's crush on him, and she doesn't want to say the wrong thing.
Plus, if the lovesick girl wants to run and hide in the bushes, Willow's silence could buy her some time to slip away.
But alas, she doesn't.
Jackson appears in the doorway a mere 5 seconds after asking his question with a beer clutched in his hand. He moves to lean against the wooden frame as his pearly smile beams at you, and Y/BFFs/N audibly swallows at the sight.
For someone who's usually so confident, she can really be shy sometimes.
"Lovely to see you, ladies," he greets, putting his free hand in front of him as he bows. His accent is modeled after that of Jack Sparrow, as is his surprisingly well designed costume.
You nod back at him. "Hey, Jackson. Long time no see."
You elbow your best friend when she remains silent for a beat too long, and the action snaps her back to reality.
"Yeah, hey Jackson." Her voice is quiet -- she doesn't trust it to refrain from cracking.
He smiles, not failing to notice the nervous aura that's quickly taken over the girl beside you. Her eyes nearly pop out of her head when he gives her a curious once-over, and you take that as your cue to save her from the impending embarrassment that's lurking just around the corner.
"Alright, guys!" You clap, stepping forward. "Let's get to partying."
Her shoulders relax, and you feel her slip her hand into yours as you enter the house, squeezing twice as a silent thank you.
15 Minutes Later
Willow stands beside you in the kitchen, mixing a few things together in one of the millions of red solo cups that she bought for tonight. You sneak a peek over her shoulder at the concoction, seeing its light blue color turn purple-ish as she adds a new liquor into the equation.
In comparison to typical house parties, this one is relatively small; most of the rooms are filled with people, but it's a comfortable amount. Maneuvering around the place is fairly easy, which is always a plus when you're coexisting with sweaty, drunk people.
"Willow, love, why did you buy so many cups?" You ask, toying with the ripped plastic packaging of one of the stacks.
"You know I like to be prepared," she laughs, brushing off her major miscalculation. "Plus I can just use the rest of them at my next party."
You nod, knowing she's right. "Are you having another soon?"
"I think so. Jiu and her crew are coming back in a couple weeks, so I thought I'd surprise them with one."
You scoff, humor laced in the sound. "What, they didn't get enough partying done at their university already?"
Willow turns around, grinning at you as she hands you your drink. "Evidently campus police keep a close eye on them. Siyeon whined about that a lot when she called me."
"Sounds like her," you chuckle into your cup as you take a sip.
PFFT
"Eww, Willow! What did you put in this?!"
Your spit take didn't land on anyone, thankfully, but it did capture the attention of some people nearby. You wave a hand at them as a silent apology, and they go back to their previous tasks.
The curly headed prankster covers her mouth, though the action does a terrible job of quieting her maniacal laughter.
"You're lucky Y/BFFs/N isn't over here," you say, wiping your lips with the back of your hand. "She'd avenge me."
Willow uses a napkin to dab the tears of laughter from her eyes. "Why else do you think I waited until she was busy with Jackson?" She asks, motioning to her lounge room across the foyer.
You look inside, spotting Y/BFFs/N holding a pool cue in her hand as Jackson sinks another shot into one of the corner pockets.
The sight reminds you of the pep talk and 2 shots of liquid courage you gave her earlier, and how she disappeared with the promise to make a move and actually talk to him. Now, she looks completely absorbed in whatever banter they're sharing, and although your violated taste buds still ache from the sickly-sweet mixture that Willow made, you wouldn't want her to be anywhere else.
You can get your own revenge.
Sneaking a glance around the kitchen, you search for something to help with your retaliation. A small package of streamers lays abandoned on the island, forgotten to be put up earlier, and you slyly grin. Their ribbons sparkle with glitter, shimmering as the multicolored party lights stream in from the living room and land on them.
It's as if the universe is putting a spotlight on them, just for you.
After side eyeing Willow one final time to ensure that she isn't catching onto your plan, you act quickly. She stands beside the counter, right where you left her, and you dart to the island to grab the streamers. Your fingertips soon gain purchase on the packaging, and you tear it open in one swift motion.
Her gaze locks onto yours just as you near her, but it's far too late for her to get away.
"Take this!" You declare, upending the baggie atop her head. She shrieks as they cascade down her body, getting caught in the creases and wrinkles of her costume as they go. A small wave of glitter tumbles out of the bag as well, coating her hair and clothes.
Boy, that'll be fun to try and get out later.
Her head slowly raises once you finish your assault and place the baggie on the countertop beside you, but the look in her eye is unlike anything you've ever seen.
"You're dead," she warns. Just as the smile drops from your face, an even larger, more sinister one begins forming on hers.
The floor creaks beneath your feet slightly as you take a step back, and you know you have to high tail it out of there if you want to evade her.
"Catch me if you can!" You shout, springing into action. You turn around and dart out of the room, gliding past numerous partygoers in the hall.
Willow's choice of footwear works in your favor, you soon realize; the sharp rapping sound of her heels pierces the air behind you, serving as a tell of how much distance is between you.
Her unstable platforms buy you a little time, and you thank the universe as you rush through the living room and back towards the foyer. You plan to cut across it and hide out in one of the bathrooms until she drops her plan for revenge.
A grin pulls at your cheeks as you skid into one of the walls, looking like a character from Scooby-Doo as you will your feet to work correctly again and get you to safety. Willow laughs behind you, joining in on the fun.
"Perfect," you mutter under your breath, spotting a clear path through the foyer. It leads under the stairs, and you can see the open door of the bathroom from where you are.
Your feet take you past a handful of drunk people, bobbing and weaving through them with ease, before you're racing towards the restroom to take cover.
Before you can make it there, though, you collide with someone rather abruptly as they step straight into your path.
Your eyes shut tightly as you brace yourself for impact with the ground, but it never comes. The person reaches out and catches you before you can hit the floor, and a soft apology slips past their lips as they scoop you up.
Upon hearing that uniquely feminine voice speak its regret again, you peek your eyes open. What you see nearly makes the woman's effort to keep you upright moot; she's so gorgeous that your legs almost give out from underneath you.
Dirty blonde locks cascade over her shoulders in soft waves, half-mussed, half-pristine from your run-in. Her doe eyes are a velvety chocolate color, and you find yourself getting lost in them. Flickers of red show in them, illuminating almost rhythmically the longer she admires you.
Are those contacts? You ask yourself. They have to be.
She seems to be just as affected by your presence as you are of hers.
"Y/N, I'm coming to get you!"
Willow does her best to sound like a villain from a 90s horror film as she clambers her way closer to you, bumping into a few people on the way. You're brought out of your stupor by her rapidly approaching footsteps, and you take a step away from the woman. Her hands fall from your waist, where they had previously been resting.
Stealing a quick look at the bathroom, you feel your stomach turn.
Damnit. Someone's in there now.
Screw this sexy stranger for distracting you. Now you'll have to deal with Willow's wrath.
"What's wrong?"
There's that voice again.
Part of you wants to brush it off and slip away quietly, but an even bigger part of you is determined to stay where you are and tell her. Something about her pulls you in, and you're having a hard time denying it.
"I need to hide. I glitter-fied my friend and now she's coming after me."
The woman's plump lips pull back in a humored smile, and she nods as a chuckle leaves her. "Right," she says, like that's a common occurrence. "I can help, if you'd like."
"How?" You ask, your brows momentarily knitting together in confusion. When she unties and opens the black cloak that's wrapped around her body, your breath catches.
"You in?" She asks, side eyeing the foyer as Willow nearly careens into the Egyptian vase that her mother bought her last year for Christmas.
You take a deep breath and hold your hand out to her just as Willow rounds the corner, and she swiftly pulls you in close before you can be spotted. She winds the cloak around both of your bodies, concealing your faces as the fur-lined hood falls atop your heads.
Unconsciously, you wrap your arms around her waist and pull her flush up against you to further ensure your safety. She quietly grunts when she stumbles over her own feet, falling into you a little.
"Sorry," she whispers, though her third apology of the night is unnecessary. You almost want to thank her for what happened.
Especially when her warm breath fans across your right cheek, where her head is angled.
Every breath you take pushes you closer to each other, and the satin shirt she's wearing slides against your heated skin. She swallows thickly as one of your hands falls to the small of her back, testing the waters.
When she shifts a little to encourage you, you're acutely aware of the thigh that's worked its way between your legs.
When did that happen?
You bite back a sigh as she just smirks, quietly shushing you.
Willow thunders by, shouting your name and threatening to throw you into the pool when she tracks you down. You want to laugh at that, but you'd honestly welcome it right now. Some cold water would surely bring you to your senses after being led astray by this goddess in front of you.
Her footsteps grow distant as she makes her way outside, still searching.
The two of you remain as you are for a couple more minutes until you're certain that the coast is clear, and then you part. When she lowers the cloak, you look away; a deep blush has worked its way up your neck and across your cheeks, and letting her see it would surely make you die of embarrassment.
She keeps her eyes on you as she reties the cover around herself, attempting to get a read on you. The bashful aura that's befallen you is cute, no doubt, but she can sense your arousal. She can smell it on you, and the scent is beginning to drive her crazy.
You fiddle with the sleeves of your costume, readjusting them nervously.
"So, um… thanks," you say, sneaking a glance up at her.
The red hues in her eyes are even more pronounced now, and the sight makes you press further into the wall behind you -- the one that you were previously pushed up against.
"No problem," she smiles, showing off her pearly white teeth. Two of them catch your attention; a set of fangs now shine, looking alluring and threatening all at the same time.
There's only one issue: you're certain that they weren't there when you first bumped into her. When did she put them in? And why do they look so real?
The feeling of her hand landing on your forearm pulls you away from the millions of questions that're firing off in your head right now.
"May I ask your name?" She politely requests, dipping her head down sweetly.
"Y/N," you breathe out, quickly realizing that you'd do just about anything she asked you to.
"Y/N." She repeats, allowing the letters to blend in her mouth as they roll off her tongue. She looks satisfied for some reason as she says it again, trying it out.
"I'm Lisa."
"It's nice to officially meet you," you smile, reaching a hand out. Her touch is gentle but firm as she takes it, shaking it with ease.
"Likewise, beautiful."
The grin on your face only widens at the name, and you pull your hand away out of fear of what she might do next. She's already putting you under her spell, and you're sure that another touch would have you fully entranced.
She studies you with pursed lips for a moment, clearly debating on something. Her eyes flicker over the dips and curves of your body as a smirk grows on her lips.
"What are you thinking?" You question, curious but teasing.
"That I'd love to have your body on mine again."
She's bold, and she says it like the fact it is. No shame, no bashfulness. Just true, honest desire.
You bite the inside of your cheek at her bravery, silently thanking the universe for it. The likelihood of you gaining the courage to make a move is slim to none even in the best cases, and this was no exception. She already has your heart skipping beats and you've only known her a few minutes.
"How about a dance?" She suggests, quirking a brow. The look on her face disarms your defenses, and you take a deep breath before agreeing to your demise.
"That sounds wonderful."
She dips her head again, hiding her face away momentarily, and you think it's the cutest thing ever.
She's shy all of a sudden as her cool demeanor slips up a bit, and that never happens. You might just be her downfall, too.
She holds an elbow out and steps forward, allowing you to link your arm with hers and cuddle in close.
Her eyes scan across the living room as she studies it, but she's unimpressed.
Sweaty, winding bodies thrash around to some upbeat pop song that's been overplayed on every radio station in town for weeks now, and the idea of taking you there puts her off.
When a drunk boy comes into view with a dildo strapped to his forehead, her mind is officially made up.
"Let's go outside," she says, leading you through the patio doors.
A quaint gazebo sits on one side of the yard, and the dance floor that Willow's family installed a couple years ago occupies the other. Both are decorated with string lights in combinations of gold, purple, black, and orange. Other ornaments adorn the surfaces as well, and you smile when you spot a comically large spider sat atop the gazebo's roof.
"Where would you like to go?" Lisa asks, keeping her voice low. It's calm and deep, running a chill through you.
Softer music plays out here, offering a totally different vibe than inside. Some couples -- many of them introverted, assumably -- sway on the dancefloor as the DJ that Willow hired takes a sip of her drink on the raised stage. She adjusts a few switches slowly, not rushing for a second.
"Let's try the gazebo," you decide, glancing over your shoulder at Lisa. She's looking away, but you don't think anything of it as the two of you fall in step with one another on your way over.
Shit, Lisa thinks to herself.
Her plans to come to this party, feed, and make a quick getaway are totally derailed. She'd hoped to find a victim that she was attracted to but didn't like, if that even makes sense, and feed like the animal she is. Then she would leave them like all the rest, drained but still alive, and slip away.
But now she's met you, and any desire for those plans have been thrown out the window.
You interest her, and that doesn't happen often. She hasn't met someone who's been capable of doing that in years, and she's intrigued. Something about you just pulls her in, inexplicably, and she knows her feelings would be glaringly obvious if you saw her face right now.
"Woah, look at this," you sigh, stepping out of her hold to check the place out. A bench runs the perimeter of the gazebo, only stopping at the doorway, and the lights look even prettier from inside. They shimmer, looking like star showers as their strings hang down in the windowless openings of the building.
Lisa quickly learns that she loves seeing you like this. Your eyes are alight, and your sweet smile of wonder warms her heart. Her hands slip into her pockets as she eventually manages to take her eyes off you, following your lead as she admires the decorations.
She does a twirl, looking around.
"It's gorgeous."
"I know, right? This is totally up Willow's alley," you say, grinning at the mental image that you can conjure up of her giddily spiffing the scene up.
"I'll have to thank her for making it look so special, then," Lisa says, smiling. The place really makes you feel like you're in your own little world; everything about it is just right. The ambience, the decor, the company… it’s perfect, and Lisa's content with how the evening is playing out.
Her fingers skate down your arm as she nears you, trekking their way down to your palm. She takes your hand and spins you, watching with admiration as your hair flows in the breeze. Now facing her, you thread your fingers together around the back of her neck as she encircles your waist with her arms.
"Why have I never seen you around?" You ask sincerely, looking up at her.
She hesitates briefly. "My university is a few towns over. I just come here to visit my family every few months."
Not a total lie, she thinks to herself.
"And stop by terrible parties like this, of course." You add, smirking.
She shakes her head at that. "No, I can't say I do. I just decided to check this one out on my way to my friend's house." She explains.
Underneath your cloak, her hands find their way to the small of your back. One stays put while the other dips a little lower, testing the waters.
"And besides," she starts again, feeling you pull her closer. "Meeting you here automatically makes this an awesome party. Not terrible."
"Cheeeesy!" You scrunch your face up and groan, making her laugh.
"Maybe, but it's the truth."
"Sure, Lisa."
She shakes her head and you laugh lightly together, still swaying about. You hold her close enough to rest your head on her shoulder, and the pads of your thumbs rub small circles on the sensitive skin of her neck. She hums at the feeling, and you take note of the way she relaxes in your arms.
The night breeze appears again, performing a flowing dance of its own as it lulls past you in waves. A slight chill resides in it, mixed with a generous amount of the day's sweet, fading heat, and you're at peace.
The slow song that had been playing across the yard ends delicately, parting with some melodic feature that resembles a warm embrace, and it blends seamlessly into the next song.
Turning Page, you recognize it as.
Huh, how ironic. One of your favorites.
Lisa's lips brush against your cheek as she turns her head slightly, whispering, "I like this one, too."
How did she know? You ask yourself. You hadn't said it out loud…
Maybe she's just a good guesser. Yeah, that's gotta be it.
You feel yourself melt as she begins singing the words to you. It's hushed and sentimental -- meant only for your ears to hear, and that makes it even more special to you.
"If I had only felt the warmth within your touch"
She croons, pressing her cheek against your warm skin. You blush, catching yourself when you remember what the next line of the song is.
"If I had only seen how you smile when you blush"
She brings a hand up to cup your cheek in her palm, and her other arm remains around you, holding you tenderly.
"Or how you curl your lip when you concentrate enough"
Now, her thumb runs across your bottom lip. You look into her eyes and find them an even deeper shade of red than they had been before, but it doesn't frighten you for some reason. She glances down at your mouth again, fighting her impatience as she waits for permission from you.
"I would have known what I was living for all along"
You nod and lace your fingers in her locks, and she doesn't waste another second.
She leans in, humming against your lips when they meet hers for the first time. Her lipgloss spreads across them upon contact, smudging its precise application, but she doesn't seem to care in the slightest. She draws you in closer, and you bring both of your hands around to cup her face as you deepen the kiss.
Her mouth is welcoming against yours, and it moves languidly as you get adjusted to one another. Every move makes you feel dizzier than the one before it, and swarms of butterflies take flight in your stomach with no signs of stopping.
She nips at your bottom lip as her hands dip far lower than before, now kneading your ass as your kisses continue to work her up.
"Fuck," you curse, breaking away from her lips to catch your breath. She's stolen it all from you, and yet she's still not ready to give you a rest; her mouth drops to your jaw, embracing your skin there before moving down to your neck.
She doesn't realize how dangerous the game she's playing truly is until it's almost too late.
Her lips press to the area just above your pulsepoint, where she's learned over the years that blood pumps the hardest and tastes the sweetest. She draws it into her mouth, swirling her tongue over the area as her ears perk up at the breathless sound of your moans. They spur her on, and she nips at the skin, surely leaving a hickey.
Her senses become even more clouded when you say her name, the title caught somewhere between a whine and command, and she feels the strong impulse to claim you. The sensation is overwhelming, and she knows you can feel it too.
Your hands tug on the collar of her shirt as she lets her fangs fully extend, no longer suppressing them. They rake across your pulsepoint, making you shiver against her.
"Please…"
That's all you manage to get out before they pierce your skin, eliciting a whimper from you. Blood fills her mouth instantly, sliding across her taste buds in velvety waves and calming her constant craving. Your hands tighten in her hair, and the delicious twinge of pain that it provides only encourages her more.
Your blood is different than anything she's ever tasted; it's richer -- sweeter. A throaty groan leaves her as she savors it, and you shut your eyes in pleasure. It's addicting, but she knows she has to stop herself before she hurts you. If she continues like this much longer, she won't have the willpower to let go.
She retracts her fangs as she licks your taste from them, and then you feel her warm tongue clean the wound she made. It stings a bit, but in all the right ways.
When she pulls back to look at you, she finds your eyes half-lidded and a pleased smile on your face. It nearly kills her, then and there.
Her gaze flickers back to your neck to admire the hickie she made earlier, but what she sees surprises her. Below it is a darker, more prominent marking that she's only seen other vampires leave behind before.
Definitely not a hickie.
Your brows furrow as you look at her neck as well, noticing a faint outline of something growing darker by the second. Blinking a few times to ensure that you aren't hallucinating, you find that it's really there.
"Lisa, what's on your neck?" You ask.
"A soulmate mark." She responds, feeling a sense of belonging settle over her as she looks at you again. You just confirmed her suspicions by asking that.
"Same as yours," she smiles.

A WEEK LATER...
Of course it had to be raining the night they needed to execute their plan.
Y/N didn’t know if she was shaking because she was freezing or because she was so nervous. Even with all the layers and her knit hat, she couldn’t seem to warm up.
Y/N had been walking around for half an hour. They’d mapped out her route so her face would get picked up by as many street cameras as possible. If The Court was as sinister as rumored, they’d be watching.
“Scratch your nose if you’re doing alright,” Dick said in Y/N’s ear.
The whole family had explained how imperative it was for Y/N not to speak. They had to assume that Y/N was being watched the moment she left the manor. And if her lips moved, the Talons would know something was up.
So Y/N scratched her nose and looked over her shoulder suspiciously, just like they had talked about.
“Remember: you want out at any moment, just press the distress button on your watch,” Dick added for good measure.
Y/N wanted to roll her eyes at his worry and overprotectiveness, and say, ‘I know. I know.’ But she knew better than that.
“Someone’s tracking her,” Jason spoke up in the comms. “Civilian clothing.”
Jason started calling out the identifiers to his family, and in 30 seconds everyone spotted the man that was tailing Y/N.
But this was all part of the plan.
“I still don’t like this,” Dick muttered to his family, making sure he cut Y/N’s connection off so she didn’t hear his nervousness.
“’Course you are. We’re throwing your girlfriend to the wolves,” Jason commented.
“She’s not my girlfriend,” Dick muttered with annoyance.
“Focus,” Bruce chimed in for the first time.
“She’s stuck to the route we gave her,” Tim commented. “All well-lit and crowded with people. They won’t make a scene with this many witnesses.”
The family moved across rooftops, following Y/N’s path from their designated points.
Dick and Bruce both hated this plan, but they were handling it in different ways.
Bruce had become almost mute with focus. He didn’t want a single thing to slip past him. His senses were acute as ever. He was barely communicating with them because he was too busy keeping an eye on Y/N. His eyes hadn’t stopping shooting around, making sure to cover all angles.
“She’s entering the warehouse,” Damian announced.
Everyone shifted their focus and made their moves.
Y/N stopped at the computers she had set up. Or really that Bruce had hired men to set up for her.
She started typing away rapidly, not sure how much time she’d have before deadly ninjas would start dropping on her.
With one final slam of a key, she let out a shallow breath. “Signal’s been sent out. We’re live.”
“Nice!” Tim answered.
Jason started to chime in, but suddenly his voice became crackly and then the line went silent.
“Red Hood?” Y/N asked.
Nothing.
“Anyone read?”
Nothing.
Y/N felt a chill go up her spine.
She whipped around to find three Talons awaiting her attention.
Y/N quickly took a step back and pressed the panic button on her watch. She hoped The Court hadn’t somehow intercepted that signal as well.
“You were lucky with our last encounter,” a Talon stepped forward to speak.
Y/N ignored him and took out both of the guns that had been hiding in her trench coat.
He laughed at the weapons. “Have we not already tried this?”
“At least I’m not a coward hiding behind a mask. Won’t even let me see the faces of the idiots who want to kill me?”
They all ignored her attempt to get them to unmask themselves, but started stepping toward her. “Not want. We will kill you this time.”
But before Y/N could answer or the Talons could get any closer, a smoke bomb was dropped in the space between her and her enemy.
Just as it erupted, Dick dropped down from the bannister above and shoved a gas mask over Y/N’s face.
This wasn’t just any usual gas bomb that Batman and the family used as a distraction. No, this was a special formula designed to burn eyes and cause coughing fits.
One thing was made quite clear, the Talon’s masks were not used to protect them from such attacks. They were meant to hide their identity and nothing else.
Y/N smirked when she heard the sudden coughing and groans of pain. They weren’t muffled by fabric, meaning they had no choice but to remove their masks.
“Stay back,” Dick warned her before lightly pushing her behind a pillar as the smoke bomb started to settle.
Barely giving them a chance, Dick attacked the weakened Talons.
But now the three of them were unmasked. Their eyes were burned red and watery with tears.
And their faces were exposed.
Y/N’s stomach dropped as she saw Dick flip to them and attack.
But she had a job to do and started tapping away on the high-tech watch around her wrist. She was walking backwards, staying away from the fight, just as Dick had instructed.
But then she backed into a body.
“Fuck,” Y/N muttered as she froze and her eyes widened in panic.
She whipped around to find a Talon with his sword drawn.
Then other blurs were dropping down from the banisters, more were joining the fight.
Y/N reached for both of her guns and was ready to start firing – despite that not benefiting her in the slightest bit last time.
But before she could take even one shot, someone dropped in front of her protectively.
Bruce was a like a wall of shadow, blocking Y/N from the enemy.
“Run, Y/N.” He demanded without breaking eye contact with his opponent.
She knew better than to fight him on it. This was what they had agreed upon: Y/N was to be used as bait and do her job, then get the hell out.
“No matter what you hear or see, you run like hell,” Dick had told her. His eyes had been desperate and his grip on her shoulders had been tight. Y/N hadn’t been able to find it in her to do anything but give a slow nod.
Barely a second passed after Bruce’s warning before multiple Talons were on him. But Bruce was a worthy opponent and was able to distract them enough for Y/N to get away.
She ran for the nearest exit.
But the warehouse was now crawling with Talons.
Two more blocked her path, making her screech to a stop and turn around, facing Jason.
“Get down,” he told her calmly as he raised two guns.
She dove to the ground and covered her ears as Jason cleared out his ammo.
Without waiting for further instruct, Y/N jumped back onto her feet and tried to find the least chaotic route out.
Tim was using his bow staff almost like a windmill, taking out multiple Talons at a time with just a simple swing.
Y/N looked across the warehouse to see Damian and Dick fighting alongside each other. Despite Damian’s capabilities, Dick couldn’t help but look out for the boy, and he was never far from his side during a fight.
Damian slashed down opponent after opponent with his Katana sword. Meanwhile, Dick had the boy’s back, using his escrima sticks and countless acrobatic kicks and flips.
They were all holding their own, which further urged Y/N to get out of the way.
‘Run, Y/N. Run!’ Her brain screamed at her.
She spotted her opening and sprinted for it.
With only a few yards to go, Y/N felt a sting in the back of her leg.
No.
It was more than a sting. It was a lightning strike of pain that threw her to the floor.
As she sat up, Y/N looked up to see that a knife had clattered to the floor with blood staining it. Her blood.
Then she looked at the back of her thigh to see that she was bleeding from an open wound. It could’ve been worse. The knife could’ve embedded into her muscle and flesh. But she had gotten away with a graze – but one that brought her to the ground.
It all happened so quickly.
One moment Y/N was looking at the blood dripping from her leg. And the next, there was a Talon standing above her – unmasked – with his sword about to swing down on her.
Y/N winced and shielded herself as best as she could. But there was no saving her from such a blade – and a blade wielded by a Talon of The Court.
Just when Y/N thought she’d feel the sword strike her, a presence flew between them.
Y/N opened her eyes when she heard the sound of metal clashing with metal.
Bruce’s forearms were crossed into an X, with his gauntlets intercepting the Talon’s sword swing.
Y/N crawled back to get out of the way, ignoring the screaming pain from her leg.
All she could do was watch as Bruce now fought the Talon one on one. They wielded two katana swords – one in each hand.
Meanwhile, Bruce was using his gauntlets and therefore could really only be on the defense.
It was clear that he was trying to disarm them and make the fight even.
Eventually, through many complicated maneuvers, Bruce knocked one of the swords out of the Talon’s grip. He picked it up.
Y/N didn’t know why it was so surprising to see Bruce wield a katana. Of course he had been trained in sword fighting. That just wasn’t his chosen weapon. It didn’t stop her from being amazed by his skill with the blade.
But Bruce was getting tired. Y/N could see it.
His movements were still quick, but they had slowed since the beginning of this particular fight.
Y/N managed to clench her teeth and fight through the pain of her leg, slowly bringing herself to a standing position.
But just as she did so, Bruce’s sword was knocked clear out of his hands and the Talon followed it with a kick to Bruce’s abdomen and a punch to his face.
Y/N’s stomach dropped at seeing the infamous Batman get knocked to the ground.
Of all the footage she’d seen, Batman always seemed to have the upper hand. She never doubted that he was going to win a fight – and he was going to do so without killing the enemy, which as always impressive.
“Get up, get up,” Y/N hissed to herself as she watched Bruce struggle to get back on his feet.
“So much time spent protecting her,” the Talon patronized. “Such a waste.”
He landed yet another punch across Bruce’s face. A punch that was harder than anything Y/N had seen before.
And it knocked Bruce out cold.
Y/N felt it – the death in the air.
Time seemed to slow.
She was about to watch Batman get slaughtered right in front of her.
Her eyes raced around her, looking for one of the boys to call for help or anything that could be used as a distraction. But Dick and Damian were suddenly being overpowered. Tim wasn’t even in Y/N’s eyesight. And Jason was failing to shoot every Talon that surrounded him.
Then Y/N saw the katana that had been ripped from Bruce’s grip. It lay just a foot away from her.
Without thinking, Y/N picked it up.
She lunged forward just as the Talon was bringing his sword down to finish Bruce.
With just an inch away from his victim, Y/N’s sword intercepted the final attack.
The Talon gaze whipped to her. And Bruce was oblivious to his life being saved.
Y/N’s eyes widened, realizing she acted without any sort of plan. And now she had the Talon’s full attention and she had no clue how to wield a sword of any kind – or how to physically offend herself to any degree.
“You have been a nuisance long enough,” the Talon growled.
“Oh, but I’m not even done yet,” Y/N smirked wickedly.
He tilted his head to the side, choosing to amuse her instead of strike her down immediately.
“You really think I can hack the oldest and most powerful secret, but not every major news network in the country?” She asked offensively.
But then she smiled and tapped a button on her watch.
The screens in the warehouse flickered to life and their volume was turned all the way up.
Everyone ceased their fighting.
Each screen showed that every network was hacked, their signals interrupted with Y/N’s own broadcast.
It was live footage from inside the top secret base for The Court of Owls. All of its members were unmasked, either being gathered by FBI and Gotham PD or pinned to the floor, getting handcuffed.
“That’s not possible,” the Talon gasped.
Y/N tapped her watch and a tiny drone, almost the size of a bumblebee zoomed in front of his face. Then his face was being broadcasted across the world.
“Say hello to America, Calvin Rose,” Y/N announced as her face-recognition system instantly identified him and his name appeared on her watch.
Then the camera moved to another unmasked Talon in the warehouse. “William Cobb,” Y/N announced, adding his name to the screen when he appeared.
As her footage was live-streaming on all major networks, the names of each member were appearing on the screen as well.
Calvin Rose screamed in frustration.
“Detonate the bomb!” He yelled to his men.
“You mean the bomb you first threatened me with?” Y/N cooed.
He whipped back around to glare at her, not understanding her meaning.
“You really think we wouldn’t be able to find it? After you gave us weeks to track it down?” She teased. “The bomb is in the possession of the FBI, safely neutralized. But not before I helped them reverse trace a signal back to the detonator.”
They knew they lost. But they had not only lost, they had been discovered.
There would be no recovering from such exposure.
And Y/N hadn’t even told them about all the evidence she had stored that tied The Court of Owls to every corrupt act they had performed in the last 20 years.
Sirens suddenly blared in the distance.
All the boys had stopped to look at Y/N, realizing that their plan was coming together.
“You lost,” Y/N declared as she lowered the sword to her side. “And they’re coming for you, too.”
That was finally what set him off.
He growled before stomping to her.
Y/N was surprised by this new attack and quickly stepped backwards, but not nearly fast enough.
In one motion, he grabbed Y/N by the neck with one hand, lifting her off the ground with his sheer strength and rage.
Not a second later, he shoved his sword into her abdomen.
It seemed like the sound of metal cutting flesh and muscle echoed through the entire warehouse.
“No!” Dick screamed shoving his way across the warehouse to get to her.
In the same moment, Y/N was dropped to the ground like a rag doll.
Chaos had erupted around her, a new fight had begun. But she heard none of it.
Her hands warmed from the blood that was leaking from her abdomen.
The pain was something different to her.
She couldn’t even put a number on how many times her father beat her to a pulp. Nothing could ever compare to the pain of being physically hurt by the person who was supposed to love you the most in the world. This was nothing.
Y/N was just happy she’d die doing something good for the world. A final act of sorts.
Just as she was about to succumb to the tired and dark feeling threatening to envelop her, she felt a warm presence next to her.
“Y/N!” Dick yelled when he reached her side. “You’re OK.” His voice started to shake. “You’re gonna be OK. Y/N, I need you to hold on.”
Police and FBI agents flooded the warehouse as Dick pulled Y/N into his arms.
Y/N looked up to see tears had filled his eyes.
“It’s OK, Dick.” She tried to tell him. “I’ll be fine. I’m fine.”
But when she reached up to cup his cheek, she stained his skin with her own blood.
Y/N was starting to lose her grip on life.
She swore she could feel Jason and Damian’s presence move her side, and then hear Tim talking to the cops. But she could also be imagining it. She could be imagining it all. Maybe she had already died and this was just how she had wanted to go, her mind giving her that final wish.
Things went from being so loud and warm to cold and silent.

Something I hated about the BAU team was that no one’s secrets were safe. Once one person knew something about you, the rest of the team quickly found out. Secrets weren’t safe with anyone. Unfortunately for me, I was still learning that about the team.
I was the youngest and newest member. Recently joined a year after Spencer Reid, and was a year younger than him. Everyone on the team instantly thought us to be friends since we were so close in age, as well as being the newest to the team. Truth is, outside of work, we didn’t really hang out. Everyone thought we did, but we didn’t.
I’d be a big fat liar though, if I said I didn’t have a crush on him. He’s cute, funny, and genuine. I don’t think he pitied me because I was the youngest, but part of me definitely did think that.
To be honest though, I think everyone on the team pitied me, except for Gideon. I really only got this job- which started off as an internship- because of Gideon, he was my uncle after all.
One night, Penelope had invited the women of the team over for girls’ night. And that particular night I had too many drinks and let them know a secret. A secret I wished no one knew. It’s not something I should exactly be ashamed of, though.
I’m a 24 year old virgin. But, like I said, I shouldn’t be ashamed of that. Just compared to the other women on the team… It was a little embarrassing. I was just happy that they all agreed to keep their mouths shut and not tease me about it in front of the others.
That didn’t last too long… Because Derek freaking Morgan wanted to play Truth or Dare the one night we all had to stay late to finish paperwork. He claimed it was “To keep us young”. A bullshit of a claim if you ask me.
“Truth or Dare? Are you serious? What are we, 12?” I scoffed before sipping my tea. Spencer looked over his glasses at me with a raised brow. Derek scowled as he looked at me.
“Truth or dare, Sunshine?” He asked as he kept his eyes on me as I shuffled through the paperwork on my desk. I rubbed my forehead with the pads of my finger tips before looking over at him with pure annoyance on my face.
“Truth,” I stated firmly. I just hope my annoyance was known.
“When was the last time you got laid?”
“How mature.”
“When was it?”
“Derek, please…” I looked at him as I pleaded. I really didn’t want to let this out. “Three nights ago,” I lied as I looked down at the papers on my desk. Derek catcalled while everyone else just stayed silent.
“Seriously?”
“No. Not three nights ago. Unless it was with some guy in Arizona,” I scoffed, pointing out that we were on a case, in Arizona, at that time. Derek looked at me with a raised brow. “It’s been a while,” I lied again. I pressed my hand to my face, hoping to leave it at that.
“That’s not what I was told,” JJ whispered just loud enough for everyone to hear. I pulled my hand away from my face and looked at her with wide eyes.
“Jennifer,” I warned. She looked away from me the moment my eyes locked with hers. My heart dropped to my stomach, and an anxious feeling bubbled up my throat.
“What does she mean, Sunshine?” Derek looked at me with a raised eyebrow. I let out a deep sigh before pressing both my hands to my face.
When I finally pulled my hands away from my face and looked around the room, I noted that everyone was looking my way. Everyone except for Aaron and Jason. Thank God they were in their own conversation and not listening to the childish conversations the rest of the team were having.
“You’re a profiler. You figure it out,” I shrugged as I looked right at Derek. JJ and Emily shared a look as I stared at him.
“I might be a profiler. But you’ve given me no information…” Derek squinted at me as he spoke. I stared at him, staying quiet while he figured it out. I shifted slightly in my seat as I waited for his next “deduction”.
But I didn’t have to wait for his continuation. Because someone else had something to say, someone who had been quiet the entire time this was going on.
“You’re a virgin,” Spencer spoke out of nowhere. I looked over at him with wide eyes. I could feel heat grow ablaze across my face as I stared at him. If my silence wasn’t enough of an answer, I’m not sure what was.
“Oh our little Sunshine is a late bloomer. Ain’t nothing wrong with that.” Derek smiled at me. I dropped my shoulders as I stared at him.
“I hate all of you,” I muttered as I put all my things in my bag.
“C’mon we were just messing around.” Derek tried to stop me as I stood. I looked at him with a cocked eyebrow.
“Yeah, at the expense of my personal life,” I gestured at myself out of annoyance. “I’m gonna finish these at home. If anyone needs me I’ll be there. I’ll see you guys then.” I shrugged as I walked towards the elevators.
I couldn’t help the angered noises that escaped my mouth. Of course Spencer Reid would figure it out of all the people there.
“Hey! Hey, wait up!” A voice shouted from behind me as I got closer to the doors. I froze just as my fingers hovered over the buttons of the elevator. “Wait!”
“I’m waiting, Spencer,” I muttered as I withdrew my hand away from the buttons. He appeared beside me and pressed the buttons for me.
“I’m sorry if I offended you. I didn’t mean to.” He looked over at me as he spoke. I looked back at him and shrugged.
“It’s not your fault. It’s Derek’s,” I muttered as I stepped on the elevator. Spencer stepped on beside me.
“You know, there’s nothing wrong with being a virgin.” Spencer looked over at me as he spoke. I glanced at him and shrugged.
“Yeah, well it feels like a bad thing when everyone on the team has had sex except for me,” I sighed deeply.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Spencer asked, sounding almost offended with my statement. I looked at him and laughed.
“We can’t all be Lila Archer or Jennifer Jareau, Spencer,” I shyly smiled at him. I had known about Lila Archer and what had happened between them. And I even knew what happened between him and JJ.
“I’m still a virgin,” he stated so calmly that I almost didn’t take him seriously.
“You’re lying.”
“I’m not. I’ve never had sex with anyone.”
“But…” my words trailed off, as did my train of thought. Spencer looked at me with a smile before he shrugged.
“There’s nothing wrong with being a virgin,” he whispered before he stepped off the elevator.
{***}{***}{***}
It felt almost impossible to breathe. I don’t have time to explain why it felt impossible to breathe, it was just hard. Spencer Reid was coming over… Not just as a friend. No, he was coming over for a date.
Like I said, I didn’t have time to explain. Three striking knocks on the door pulled me from my own thoughts. I looked over at it with wide eyes before I swallowed roughly.
I straightened out a few things sitting on the coffee table, and myself, before I rushed to the door. When I pulled it open, Spencer was standing on the other side. He was looking down at me with a smile.
He was wearing a dark blue, chunky sweater over a white button up and black tie. Black slacks hugged his hips, and black dress shoes covered his feet. Glasses sat on his nose, in front of his eyes, and his hair was combed over to the side.
The difficult feeling of not being able to breathe returned quickly the longer I stared at him. To be fair, he stared back at me, a small smile growing on his lips. I hated how long we stayed quiet as we stared at each other.
“H-Hi,” Spencer finally spoke. I swallowed roughly and nodded as I hid behind the door a bit more.
“Hi,” I whispered as I stared at him.
“Are… Are you going to let me in?” he asked softly. I jumped once I realized he was still standing outside. I stepped away from the door and pulled it open more, silently inviting him in.
“S-Sorry. I just…” I watched as he walked into my living room. He turned and looked at me, watching as I shut and locked the door.
“It’s okay. I was a little nervous walking up the driveway,” he nervously laughed. I smiled and nodded.
“Well! I have snacks! And… And water! I don’t have a movie queued up yet because I wasn’t sure what you wanted to watch…” I held my hands together as I walked into the living room a bit more.
“Oh! We can…”
“I have a bunch of Disney movies… If you want to watch a Disney movie. Have you seen Emperor’s New Groove?” I asked, as I nervously pulled at my fingertips. Spencer looked at my hands before looking up at my face. I hope he could pick up on the anxiety I was feeling. And if he did, he didn’t say anything about it. Thankfully.
“No, I haven’t. Is it good?”
“I’ll put it on.” I nervously smiled before going to my TV to get the movie ready. Spencer quietly took a seat on the couch as I put the DVD in the DVD player. Once the movie was in, I stood up and went to join him. I sat on the opposite end of the couch.
Of course, by the time we got to the halfway point of the movie, I was sitting closer to him, and even holding his hand. It did take a little convincing for him to do that though.
And then we were at the end. The credits were about 5 minutes away from rolling. My head rested on his shoulder. We were very comfortable with the little bit of cuddling that was happening.
“Hey Spencer…” I mumbled, as I lifted my head off his shoulder. Spencer looked over at me with a mildly worried look in his eyes. “C-Can we kiss?”
“Y-you want… I’m sorry, you want to kiss… Me?” he asked as he looked at me. I looked back at his face and nodded. I quickly looked down and away from him once I realized how stupid that question was.
“We don’t have to… It was just a silly question… I was just thinking about our conversation the other day… And, well… Just ignore me,” I muttered as I waved off the question. I hated this feeling that I felt.
“Silly question?”
“Yeah, it was.”
“Do you… Want to kiss?”
‘Well yeah, I wouldn’t have asked if I didn’t want to.’ I thought to myself. I looked up at Spencer, and nodded. I didn’t trust myself enough to speak.
“R-Right now?”
“Like I said, we don’t-” my thought was cut off by Spencer awkwardly resting his hand on my face and bringing my face to his. Our lips lightly touched.
I don’t know why I do these things to myself. Because I almost couldn’t breathe just with the thought of kissing him. But now it’s actually happening and I was holding my breath.
Spencer’s lips were soft, yet mildly chapped. He was so gentle, and I loved it. I loved every moment of it. While one of his hands held my face, his other hand held mine. It made me feel calm and safe. But Spencer had that effect on me. He carefully moved his head and deepened the kiss. Our noses smushed together as he moved.
After a few moments passed, we pulled away from each other. I kept still and my eyes closed. My body was trying to regulate itself and teach itself to breathe again.
“Are you okay?” Spencer asked after a moment of silence. I swallowed roughly and nodded.
“Yeah, I’m… Okay.”
“Was that up to your expectations?”
“Honestly?” I asked and looked at him. He nodded his head lightly. “I don’t know what I was expecting,” I whispered.
I don’t know a lot of things. But I do know this kiss was the best thing to happen to me. {***}{***}{***}
The kiss was… several weeks ago and nothing came of it. Everything went back to normal after the date and we didn’t speak of it. I learned my lesson though and didn’t give any details to the other women of the team.
Just when I thought things were okay, Spencer and I were forced to share a room while on a case. I never had an issue before sharing a room with him. But this was the first time we’d be spending time alone together since the date and kiss.  And to make matters even worse for both of us… it wasn't just the room we were sharing. It was the bed too.
The tension in the room was high. It was just a kiss for christ’s sake. It was the bed that made it awkward. If we had two queens, like we were told, I’m sure there’d be no awkwardness about this. But unfortunately for both of us… We didn’t get the two queens.
Spencer sat on the far side and I sat on the other side of the bed. There was enough space between us to allow at least another adult to join us. He was reading a book, whereas I was reading over the file.
I hated the tension in the room.
“I’m going to shower,” Spencer announced to the room. I looked away from the folder I was holding and at him.
“Okay. Good luck,” I smiled softly at him. He looked back at me and nodded before entering the bathroom. I dropped my file to my lap before slipping off the bed and going to the fridge. He was a quick shower person, so I doubt he’ll be in there too long. I just had to keep busy till he came back out, then I could go to sleep. I don’t want him worrying about waking me up.
Once I had a snack, I returned to my seat on the bed. Deciding I was finished with the gory details of the case file, I clicked the television on, going through the channels before deciding to shut it off. Why would anything good be on TV in a hotel in the middle of nowhere? Sitting in the silence of the room was better than the garbage soap operas.
After about 10 minutes of my loneliness, the bathroom door opened, and out stepped Spencer, with just a towel around his waist. It was so hard to keep my eyes off him. This was torturous… This was honest to God all on him. He probably knew what he was doing.
“Forgot my clothes.” He looked at me with an awkward smile as he lifted his clothes. I looked up at his face and nodded.
“Yeah, yeah,” I whispered as I looked at the apple core in my hand.
Sure. I’m sure that’s exactly what you did.
I watched as he quickly went back into the bathroom. I closed my eyes just as he looked back at me. I silently prayed that he didn’t notice my staring. But who am I to kid? It’s Spencer freaking Reid. He definitely noticed me staring.
Spencer came back out, this time wearing his pajamas, which consisted of a matching set of a light blue button up sleep shirt, and light blue bottoms, five minutes later.  He quietly took his spot on his side of the bed, sitting on the very edge. I hated how much space was between us, and I hated how tense it was.
The silence in the room was only occupied by the pages of Spencer’s book being turned. I hated the silence too. It was hard to say how much time passed, but it was a while before anything was said.
I looked over at him, watching him for a moment before saying, “Is everything okay?” I paused and swallowed roughly. “Between us, I mean?” I looked at Spencer with a worried crease in my brow. He looked back at me, a confused expression on his face.
“Yeah, yeah, why wouldn’t we be? Did somethin-”
“We’ve been walking on eggshells since we kissed each other. And that was so long ago, Spencer. I was just making sure…”
“No, nothing’s wrong between us. I promise.”
“You were my first kiss, you know,” I whispered as I looked up at him. He looked back at me with a nervous look in his eyes.
“I wish I could say you were mine…” Spencer returned with a certain sadness in his words. He moved so he was standing between my legs.
“It was a damn good first kiss, too,” I laughed sadly. Spencer raised an eyebrow before grasping both my hands. “I like you, you know,” I finally looked up at him, “And I have for a while.”
“I like you, too,” he finally said, as he placed his book on the night stand.
“No, not like… I like like you, Spencer. Not as a friend,” I muttered as I looked away.
“I know,” he whispered. I looked up at him, feeling my heart leap to my throat. “Me too.”
I really thought he just liked me as ‘just friends’. I thought that for a while, too. But why else would he kiss me? Maybe it was a pity kiss? But it was such a nice kiss.
“Really?”
“Yes, really.” Spencer nodded with a bright smile. I smiled as he reached for my hand. “I was surprised when you asked to kiss me because I didn’t think you liked me that way.”
“Why else would I ask you to kiss me?!”
“Well… I don’t know.”
“K-Kiss me again… If you like me, kiss me again,” I whispered, as I looked up at his face. Spencer looked back at me before slowly leaning over to me.
Our lips met in a tender kiss. And after a brief moment, we both deepened it. My hands lifted to hold his face as Spencer moved to straddle my waist. My body slowly slipped down the bed, and Spencer followed along. I laid down, perfectly on the pillow with Spencer holding himself over me. It was like there was a silent understanding. We both wanted more, but we didn’t want to be vocal about it… yet.
Something was about to change tonight… Actually, a lot of things were going to change tonight.
Spencer wrapped his arms around my waist, lifting my body up into his. He delicately pressed his hips into mine, prompting a soft moan to come from me. My fingers got tangled in his hair, gently tugging at it. I quickly brought my hands to hold his face, keeping him in place. Another soft moan fell from my lips, causing Spencer to freeze. I didn’t mean to moan. It was just an accident.
“Wait, wait,” Spencer breathed out against my lips. “We should seriously think about this before we do anything else,” he said as he pushed away from me. I looked up at him with eyes.
He quickly rushed off the bed, almost falling into the dresser. I sat up a little bit and watched as he paced back and forth in front of the bed. Seriously think about it before anything happens… And if nothing happens, nothing happens, it’ll be fine.
I moved to sit on the edge of the bed, waiting. Spencer stood a few feet away, talking to himself. I understood why though. I mean, I was talking to myself too, trying to get myself off the edge. My heart was going a million miles an hour, like I was a roadrunner outrunning a coyote.
Spencer continued walking back and forth, his hands going through his hair as he muttered to himself.
I looked up at him before I spoke. "We don't have to have sex-"
"I know," Spencer cut me off before looking over at me. I lifted my arms to cover my chest as he stared. "I want to. I want to do this," he stepped closer to me. “You’re the person I want to do this with.”
I looked at him, watching as he lifted a hand to my face.
“I want to do this with you too, but if you’re going to think so hard about it… Maybe we shouldn’t,” I whispered as I brought a hand to his. A small smile grew across his lips before he nodded.
“I agree. I want to do this. However… I’m ready. I’m not thinking too hard about it. And I want to do this with you,” he repeated.
“I want to do this with you, too.” I smiled softly. Spencer smiled again before meeting to kiss me.
As he continued kissing, we moved back up on the bed. Just like before, his arms wrapped around my waist. His hips ground against mine, eliciting another soft moan from me. My hands found their way to his shirt, pulling at it and the buttons to rip it open. Neither of us cared that buttons popped off and flew all over.
My fingers danced up and down his chest, tracing over the faint definition on his chest. Spencer smiled softly against my mouth. He pulled one of his hands away from my back, and rested it at the top of my shorts, right on my bare hip.
“Keep… Keep touching me,” I mumbled as I held his face close to mine. A small, but nervous, smile grew across his lips as he slipped his hand up my shirt. His fingers danced along my sides as he worked his way up to my bra. My breathing slowly grew ragged as he brushed against the hooks of my bra. “M-More,” I stumbled over my words.
Spencer laughed softly as he struggled to unhook my bra. I smiled once the hooks were undone. His hand was so gentle over my breast that it took my breath away. He massaged the supple skin, causing soft moans to come from me. I took a deep breath as he continued rolling his hips into the thin fabric of my pajama shorts. It was intoxicating how large his bulge felt between my legs, nearly breathtaking.
I needed more from him. He wasn’t touching me enough.
“I-I need more,” I cried against his lips. Spencer looked down at me, his eyes filled and blown out from the lust. He carefully brought his hand back down to my shorts. My stomach flinched at the delicate touches he made before he was cupping over my clothed sex.
My body instinctively moved away from him. When Spencer sensed my slight uneasiness, he went to remove his hand. But I stopped him, grabbing his wrist and keeping his hand against me. When he realized that this was really what I wanted, he nodded lightly before carefully pushing past the waistband of my pants.
“Is this okay?” Spencer murmured against my lips. I gasped lightly as his finger moved against me.
“I-It feels so good, Spencer,” I gasped as his movements hastened. I threw my arms around his neck before pulling him lower to me. I quickly buried my face in the nape of his neck. Soft and strangled moans fell from my lips, into his skin.
Any conversation between us stopped, and the room was filled with my pitiful moans. Everything he was doing felt so good, any thought I had quickly went away the moment it came.
“Keep going…” I breathed out. I could feel a tension in my stomach, getting close to popping. It was impossible to stay quiet at this point. Spencer gently pressed a finger into my entrance. The heel of his palm brushed against my clit, causing me to squeal from pleasure and excitement.
I just hope no one else on the team was in the neighboring rooms…
“I’m so close, Spen-Ahh.” My words were cut off by a louder moan than before.
Spencer kept his movements going as he started to whisper soft nothings into my ear. When he started pressing his lips against my jawbone, everything came crashing in. My body jerked slightly and my moans got a little louder. It felt as if the only thing I could say was Spencer’s name.
Once I was for sure down from my high, Spencer looked down at me with an amused expression on his face.
“W-wait, that’s not it.” I brought my hands back to his face. Spencer smiled and nodded.
“No that’s not it. I don’t want that to be it,” he whispered before pressing his lips to mine. He guided me back up so I was in a sitting position. I pushed my hands over his shoulders, pushing his shirt off in one go. Then I moved my hands to his sweats.
“Are we really about to do this?” I asked, mostly to myself, as I played with the drawstrings of his sweats.
“We do-”
“You keep saying that and it makes me think you don’t want this,” I pointed out as I lifted my head to look at him. But what I didn’t realize was how close his head was to mine, causing me to bash my head into his face. “Oh my god! Are you okay!? I’m so sorry! I-I didn’t mean to!”
“It’s okay,” Spencer spoke as he held his face. I looked at him and nodded. I was so happy his nose wasn’t bleeding. That would’ve killed the moment way more than it was already.
“Well, now I’m sure you don’t want to make love with me,” I mumbled as I looked away. Spencer quickly brought his hand to my face, coaxing me to look at him.
“I never said that. It was an accident.”
“So you do?”
Instead of answering me with words, Spencer pressed his lips back to mine. I took a deep breath as he started pulling my shirt off. Our shirts, and my bra both sat on the floor in a pitiful pile. His hands went back to my shorts, helping me take them off.
Spencer pushed me back against the bed before pulling his pants off. I looked up at him as he moved to hover over me. I could feel my breathing pick up, feeling my chest tighten the more serious this moment got.
"Are you sure?" Spencer asked from between my legs. I watched as he carefully lowered so he was closer to my face.
"I'm sure, I'm ready," I whispered and looked up at him. "Are you sure?"
"Positive," he whispered with a smile. He gently grabbed one of my hands off my chest and held it beside my head. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, yeah," I mumbled. I realized my words didn't sound too convincing. But I swear I was fine. "Just scared."
"You don't have to be scared. Nothing bad is going to happen,” he whispered. Part of me almost said, out loud, ‘That we know of’ but my excitement was bigger than my terror.
"I know… I'm just… I freaked myself out. That's all." I nervously chuckled. Spencer smiled before carefully pecking my lips. "I mean, we made it this far…"
"It's not too late to back down now."
"No, I know… I want this. Please. Please tell me you want it too."
"I only want to do this with you," he whispered. He lifted our hands up and pressed his lips to my knuckles, "Ready?"
"Yeah, yeah," I whispered. My free hand quickly fell away from my chest and then grasped the sheet beside me. My grip was so tight that I was partly worried there’d be holes in the cloth when we were finished.
Spencer looked down at me with a kindness in his eyes. My legs were parted and sat on either side of him, making for easy access. He carefully pressed the head of his cock at my still sensitive sex. My eyes fell shut and my head tilted back as he pressed into me.
It was slow at first. Spencer pressed into me inch by inch every few seconds. Once he was fully in me, we both froze, trying to adjust to each other. My legs tensed the moment he bottomed out. Every ounce of air that was in me was knocked from my lungs.
I opened my eyes and looked up at Spencer. He was off in another world, his eyes glued to where our bodies met. I wondered what was going through his head at what he saw and what he was feeling. I just knew what I was feeling and saw.
Which was, I felt amazing and complete. And Spencer looked ethereal in this very moment. We fit together like a puzzle piece. Everyone always said sex was overrated and boring. But I was ready to argue that. I loved this intimacy between us.
Spencer finally looked up at me with a small smile. It was obvious he didn’t know what to do, exactly. Granted I wasn’t entirely sure what to do either.
“M-Move,” I instructed, as I lifted for his hands. He widened his eyes once he realized what he was doing. He grasped my hand before starting to roll his hips like before. A high pitched whine came from my throat as he moved slowly.
Spencer looked down at me with a concerned look in his eyes. He cautiously moved so his face was over mine. I swallowed roughly and looked up at him.
“Are you- Is this okay?” Spencer’s voice was gentle as he held my face. I bit my lips together and nodded lightly. My muscles clenched around him once the pleasure slowly started to build up again.
“It’s fine. I’m fine. Just… Keep going, please,” I whimpered against his lips. Spencer nodded, again, before pressing his lips to mine.
“God, you feel so good! I-I’ve never felt anything like you,” Spencer moaned into my ear. Another moan came from the pit of my stomach.
I couldn’t stop myself when my hips jerked up to meet his, intensifying the feelings. As Spencer continued to move his hips against me, our lips stayed together. My hands cupped his face as we moaned into each other's mouths.
“W-Wait, I wanna. I wanna see,” I murmured against his lips before pushing him away. He looked down at me with pure adoration in his eyes, watching as I looked down at where we connected. And then I realized why he was staring for so long. I quickly looked back up at him with wide eyes. “You also feel so good.” I smiled weakly, as my fingers slipped down to hold his jaw. Spencer returned the smile before pressing his lips to mine. “I love you,” I breathlessly whispered. He looked at me with a soft smile and nodded.
“I love you, too.”
It was hard to say how much longer we both lasted, but it wasn’t too long. His movements quickened, but also grew sloppy the closer he got. I quickly moved a hand between our bodies and began moving my fingers over my clit.
“Cum with me, please,” Spencer begged into my ear. I gasped and nodded. After a few more faulty movements, I came, and moments later Spencer came, filling me with an unfamiliar warmth in my stomach.
Spencer fell onto the bed beside me. His breathing heavy as he tried to catch his breath. I smiled as I looked at him, moving closer to him as I continued to crave his touch.
“I didn’t know you knew what to do,” I laughed nervously as I looked up at him. Spencer laughed as he looked back down at me.
“N-Neither did I… I just continued doing whatever was making you moan,” he returned the laughter before moving closer to me. I smiled when he wrapped his arms around me. “Was it everything you were expecting?”
“I’m not sure what I was expecting… But yeah, it was.” I smiled and nodded. I looked up at him, watching as his features softened. “You?
“Amazing, because I did it with you.”
“I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.” I smiled before reaching to kiss him. “I should shower… I hate the feeling of sweat and,” I paused for a moment, thinking about how raunchy what I was about to say was. “Cum... dripping from my body.”
“Sounds good,” Spencer whispered before pressing his lips to mine. “I’ll wait till you get out to clean-”
“You can come with, Weirdo.” I pulled his hand and dragged him out of the bed.
{***}{***}{***}
“Heard this weird noise coming from the room next over from mine,” Derek spoke as he looked over at Spencer. I choked on my coffee and looked down at the table with wide eyes. “You get lucky last night, Pretty Boy?”
“Uh, I… Well…”
“Yeah, that’s… We were hearing weird noises from the room next to ours, too,” Emily pointed out as she looked at JJ. I swallowed roughly. I could feel my cheeks instantly heating up with everything that was about to happen.
“Who’s the lucky lady, Reid?” Derek asked. I looked over at Spencer, watching as his face turned three shades red.
“Well, who’s the lucky guy?” JJ looked at me with a smirk. Emily and  Derek looked at each other, before looking at Spencer and I.
“No-”
“-You guys didn’t.” They spoke over each other once they realized what we had done.
“Hey, Spencer, truth or dare?”
“I-I’m sorry?”
“Truth or dare?”
“Truth…”
“Did we have sex last night?”

Y/N woke up the next day feeling like she could take on the world, energized, with a new crush, and full of life, a stark shift from how she usually was. She was never normally a morning person and had a severe addiction to caffeine. I mean, the addiction was still there and she still needed coffee before she could go to her 3pm class and meet up with Jason again, but she was happy. She would put on her clothes and pack her bag before even getting coffee.
“G’morning, A/N!”
“Who are you and what did you do with my best friend?” A/N joked.
“Down girl, I’m just peppy today, it’ll probably wear down and it’s probably a once-in-a-blue-moon deal,” Y/N said as she started brewing her coffee.
“You got a date with Jason today?”
“I do!”
“That explains it,” A/N joked again.
“Says the one with a boyfriend,” she shot back.
“He’s not my boyfriend, we’re just hooking up right now, trust me, if he was, you’d know, darlin’.”
“So what did dreamboat ask last night?” A/N asked.
“Well I said ‘What do you want to know?’ and he said ‘We’ll talk about it today, maybe during notes or maybe during our lunch date, we’ll see how i’m feeling.’ so I think that’s good?”
“You kidding? You got that man wrapped around your finger, respect.”
“Shut up.”
“No thanks, I have free speech y’know.”
“Yeah you can say whatever, but I can also use my free speech rights to tell you to shove it, so, checkmate,” you sneered at her.
“That’s fair,” A/N paused and then changed the subject, “Have you heard Brutal yet?” she asked.
“You’re damn right I have, I wonder where that was for me at 17. But to be fair, I would still blast it now at my parents just to make them irk.”
“They would kill you for listening to that song instead of their Christian Rock.”
“Worth it, I’ll die swinging and singing.” Y/N mused.
“It really is Brutal out here.”
“Leave, get out, that sucked, blocked, friendship over.”
---------------------------------
She walked up to her 3pm class, to be greeted by Jason at the door, with of course, her new knowledge of the tabloids and their minions, she questioned why he’d do this.
“Hey, Y/N.”
“’Afternoon, Jason.”
“I’m trying to give the tabloids a show, don’t mind me.” he mused.
“I’m not surprised, but class is in 5.”
“Then I guess we should sit down and get ready to write at lightning speeds.”
She went to sit down, followed close by Jason. She couldn’t help but notice everyone was staring, but she didn’t care. This is going to be fun, she thought, I’m glad they’re gonna get a fucking kick out of this, she finished her thought.
Class went on as usual, with her scribbling down the notes so quick her arms hurt by the end of it, and Jason just sitting around making sure she wasn’t losing her arms to the writing, and casually laughing at the Professor. Then, the Professor brought up Barry Allen. Dr. Barry Allen and what he does for the criminal psychology people.
“Forensics go hand-in-hand with criminal psych, normally we can tell, as scholars, from the hitting of the weapon why and who might’ve done it.” The Professor said.
 She saw Jason tense up a bit, and whispered over to him;
“You know Dr. Barry Allen don’t you?”
“He’s my uncle,” he whispered back.
“Well, be sure to tell him I’ve read some of his essays when I wanted to go into forensics instead of criminal psychology.”
“Really? He has essays?”
“Many. Very good writing. 10/10.”
“You’re going to make his week if you keep talking like this.” he mused.
“Good.” you mocked.
---------------------------
“So, you’re intermixed with a renowned journalist, a legend in forensic testing and you’re the son of Bruce Wayne?” she asked Jason, she couldn’t believe the words coming out of her mouth, but there they were, all cards on the table.
“Yeah, I know this is all new to you but famous people tend to know other famous people.” he joked with her.
“Well that’s fair, I guess I kind of know Clark, I met him once at a office party with my mum.”
“He’d probably remember you.”
“Enough of your family ties, huh? You said you wanted to know more about me?”
“Yes, that, did you tell your roommate to pick up your car?” he asked her.
“I did, why was I meant to do that, by the way?” she asked him.
“Because, we, you and I, Y/N, are going to go for a joyride on my motorbike and try to get away from these,” he lowered his voice, “bitch ass cameras,” he grabbed her hand and started running towards his bike, dodging all the paparazzi who just wanted the snag shot of the two. They don’t even know my name, and they’re going off about this, she thought.
When the two met his bike, she looked over it fondly. This guy really likes his red, she thought, that’s fair, I do too.
“Nice bike.”
“Thank you, Y/N. We can ride this bad boy out to the country and try to escape the cameras, which kind of cuts into the lunch date, but hey-”
“That’s just the life someone famous has to live?” she questioned.
“You’re catching on.”
“I could have been a detective if I wanted it.”
He laughed and sat down on his bike and like instinct, she sat behind him and wrapped her hands on his chest and leant in. She didn’t know how to passenger a motorbike, but he didn’t say she did it wrong.
“You ready?”
“Jason, are you going to kill me?”
“Well if the shoe fits.” he mused.
“I’m ready.”
And off they went.
There was something about the way the bike drove through the streets of Gotham that she loved so much, she had already fallen in love with the restless city and called it home long before right now, but this was exhilarating for her. Somehow driving at 120mph was amazing, it brought out this feeling of freedom, something she hadn’t ever felt back home in Metropolis.
It’s worth it, she thought, it’s forever going to be worth it.
-------------------------------------
Pulling her off of his bike, the two of them laid underneath the tree on the small hill Jason pulled over by.
“Do you think we escaped the pap?” she asked him.
“Probably not.”
“Festive.”
“So, Y/N, it’s your turn to open up about your family. Besides your mum, I already know about your mum.”
“So, my twin sister goes to our rival school, the Metropolis one, I think she’s more of a people person than I’ll ever be. My parents are still together, they got married after they had my sister and I, so I’m a bastard,” she laughed, “I always like telling people I’m by definition a bastard, a lot of them get mad all like, ‘don’t call yourself that you’re a lovely girl’ and it’s just funny to me,”
He laughed, “You call yourself a bastard out of spite?”
“Am I supposed to not? I think it’s funny-”
“It’s pretty funny. I live out of spite too,” he said, almost like he was pulling out a bad memory, but she egged him on slightly,
“Spite who?” she asked.
“Spite God.”
She let out a laugh, and he seemed to let go of whatever memory he had clung onto to watch her laugh. It was clearly a distracting laugh.
“God tried to strike you and you just went ‘Nah mate, go away’? Respectable. I would do that.” she said while laughing.
“That’s exactly what happened, Y/N-” and his phone pinged, he turned it over, it was Dick.
“Mind sharing who that is?”
“I don’t mind, it’s my older brother sending me an article of us today. We really gave them a show holding hands,” he began reading, “ ‘Millionaire’s Son, Jason Todd, Caught Holding Hands with the Mystery Girl.’ “
“One day they will know my name. And it will be a massive article. Like a gender reveal.”
“Like a gender reveal?!” he said back to her, laughing so hard his smile reached ends she didn’t expect it to be able to go.
“It wasn’t that funny of a joke, Jason,” she said.
“It’s a better joke than my brothers and sister could ever come up with, Y/N, and they’ve had Galas to practice for,” he retorted.
“I’ll set it ablaze like the California gender reveal,” she continued with the joke, expecting this to be too far, but this also showed her that Jason liked dark humor, and she did too.
He burst out laughing at this, and she smiled.
“You have perfect teeth, Jason.”
“Is that what you’re focused on?” he asked.
“They are the forefront when you smile, it is hard not to.”
“Romantic,” he mocked her.
“I can be more romantic next date, if you want it,” she said, inclined towards him saying I want it. She was right.
“I want it.”
