I just learned that the last name of the first black canary was drake.

How is this not used in fanfics anymore?

Janet Drake I see a lot of oh she was a shitty mom which alright I love some angst.

However, fuck that my personal headcannon is she was maybe absent sometimes but that's it, because she was teaching her kid to destroy businesses to bathe in his enemy's blood.

To walk in and know he is the most dangerous person in the room.

Janet Drake brought Gotham to it's knees she scares Batman.

Sometimes Bruce catches sight of Tim and is transported back in time to the Gala where someone tried to fuck with Tim and watched as Mama Dragon fucking ended their bloodlines.

BAMF Janet Drake who took no shit and raised her kid to do the same. Tim was raised by a girl boss while Jack Drake was the useless man following after his wife.

The sound of her heels still haunts the nightmares of gala attendees.

What’s your opinion on Janet and Jack Drake?

Phew that’s a tough one!

Ok so I’d like to reiterate that most of my knowledge comes from reading fanfic and looking up some canon events on the internet. I haven’t read too many comics yet >.<

A lot of fics (mine included because it’s a nice plot device for Tim angst) depict the Drakes as horrible people who are much more abusive/neglectful than they are in canon (at least from what little I know).

But even without that they left Tim behind for months at a time, didn’t realize he was sneaking out into Gotham AT NIGHT when he was like—- nine? to take pictures and I don’t think he had an actual babysitter either? But feel free to correct me here.

And yeah, Tim is/can be a very independent person but interestingly enough there’s something called “hyper independence” which is something neglected kids may develop as a consequence to not having an adult to rely upon.

Which doesn’t mean that Janet and Jack don’t love Tim. I’m actually pretty certain they do, in their own way, but neither of them is or was equipped to raise a child. They prioritized their globetrotting business over providing a safe and healthy environment for Tim.

Being a parent is a full time job and they didn’t even put in the bare minimum beyond providing him with money, a roof over his head and some occasional check ins. Being back in Gotham once every couple months to spend some days of quality time with your kid just doesn’t cut it.

So to sum it up I think Janet and Jack Drake are horribly neglectful parents whichever way you look at it. And sure, they could be worse, but neglect isn’t a competition. ✨

i love the idea of the batfam wearing each other's merch cause like. i know they'd be petty about it. usually they'd wear their siblings merch in (kinda) equal rotations, but they'd change it up depending on sibling squabbles or sibling favours. Tim, walking into the kitchen in a Red Hood shirt: Dick: TIM!? Tim: what Dick: it's Tuesday. you always wear Nightwing merch on Tuesdays. Tim: oh. Tim: you stole my last granola bar, last week. Steph, looking for something in Jason's room: JASON WHY DO YOU HAVE EVERYONE'S MERCH BUT MINE?! Jason, peeking into the room: i have your merch. in the trash. Steph: WHY Jason: you hit me with a blue shell in mario kart last game night. i'm never forgiving you. Damian, sporting a full-on Red Robin hoodie: Tim: woah. what brought this on? you usually only exclusively wear Batman or Nightwing merch Damian: you helped me take that splinter out of Alfred's paw yesterday. Richard on the other hand has recently messed up my painting palette. Dick, from the other room: IT WAS AN ACCIDENT! Damian: he'll get over it. Cass, wearing Nightwing merch for the 5th day in a row: Jason: goddamn. what did Dickie do to get in your good graces like this? Cass, smiling: he made me a flower crown Jason: ... that's it?
