My brother is a librarian, and his library is one of the ones that hosts Drag Queen Story Time.
He is also 6'3", 300 lbs of Heavy Weapons Librarian.
This week, some karen showed up to take video of said storytime. She was unmoved by the director of the library telling her their policy against taking video in the children's room.
My brother was also unmoved. Specifically, he was unmoved from his position directly in the line of karen's cellphone. She got video of an acre of blue broadcloth shirt, and that's it.
Other people who showed up to scowl at the drag queen decided they had other things to do that day when my brother scowled at them. He inherited our Mama's scowl, and it's a good one.
Sometimes, an ally looks like a big fat bald white guy. Sometimes, an ally looks like a wall.

I was talking to my sister the other day about a Polish queer movie called "Hiacynt" (Hyacinth) which is called "Operation Hyacinth" in most non-Slavic countries, since their citizens are less likely to understand that's what the title is referring to.
When I showed my sister the trailer she went:
Her: Oh, so it's a gay movie?
Me: Yes. Why did you think it was called Hyacinth?
Her: What?
Me: You know, like the operation Hyacinth. That time the government created the "pink files" on gay men and transgender people to blackmail them and isolate from society. That literally happened only 34 years ago and the files exist to this day in police's archives.
And she just didn't know about this… because it never effected her… because straight people just don't bother with learning queer history.
What…

Life happens around you when you're in the closet
You learn the word gay and you see the flags and you know one of them is yours
And everyone else around you is living their life while you figure out which one is which
Who am I attracted to
What are my pronouns
Am I attracted to anyone
Who am I
And the friends you know who have a handle on how to express themselves well
They're having their first kiss
They're going on their first dates
First girlfriend first boyfriend
First anniversary, meeting the parents, learning what it's like to have a significant other
You're fighting all these terms inside your mind
And you don't even know which word fits you so how do you tell someone what's going on
How do you get help if the people you're supposed to be able to turn to aren't for certain safe
So life goes on outside the closet you're looking from
One day you'll join, I promise you
I promise you because I have joined life as a queer person and there's so much of life to live little one
One day you'll live in the sun as your full authentic self and you will be okay
It took years and years for me
Past middle school pubescence, past high school struggles
Past college for me
Past early adult years
And let me tell you
There's comfort in the closet but the truth in the light of day will feel like home, you'll see
We'll all be here when you're ready

Hey everyone! Just coming on here to remind everyone that I have a RedBubble shop that ya'll can check out! I have lots of pride designs up right now, but I'm working on some more. Here's some examples of the pride designs I have up:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(I have a few other flags, but I don't wanna post em' all here. On my shop I currently have: Ally, Progress, MLM, Lesbian, Bi, Pan, Omni, Trans, Genderfluid, NonBinary, Queer, Genderqueer, Aro, Ace, AroAce, Agender, AroAceAge, and Intersex. If you wanna see more flags, let me know which ones you wanna see next! All my pride dragons have a version with eyelashes, and a version without.)
I have other designs that aren't pride, but yeah. If you buy from me, you'll be supporting my savings towards things like: College, a chest binder, b-day gifts for my friend with transphobic parents (I'mma get him a chest binder, too :3), species affirming gear, and food (because I need to stop using my parent's money to by ice-cream every time I get my period).
So if you like what you see, check out my RedBubble shop here or here: https://www.redbubble.com/people/DanisaurStudios/shop?asc=u
Thanks again, and I hope you all have a great day!
Your local queer, alterhuman artist,
Cadence <3

You know what is sad? That both Percy Jackson and Harry Potter have the same type of impertinent "I'll show you how much I don't give a fuck about your rules" attitude, but only Percy is allowed to fully show it, because JKR lacks a fundamental understanding of the society and how systems of oppression are created and function. I have no doubt that if Rick Riordan wrote HP books, Wizarding World wouldn't stand a chance at the end of the books. The system just wouldn't survive it.
Rick Riordan also wouldn't compare an oppressed minority in the form of trans people to fucking Death Eaters, because he actually supports queer people. His stories became more and more diverse with every written book, while JKR sunk lower and lower with each new tweet.

Sometimes I still think about the one secretary guy I had to call because of paperwork business and he was confused why I gave him a different name instead of my legal document name.
Had to tell him that I was trans and didn't change my name yet, he thought that I was a trans woman and started to have a conversation about trans people and trans issues.
At first I was really hesitant but turns out he was a really chill guy, had no problem using she/her and didn't even slip up once. Talked about how he was in queer/gay bars before with his wife and talked to trans women there. He really enjoyed his time in the bars and so did his wife, he was absolutely ecstatic to see and meet new people of all different types of orientation and backgrounds to learn/ listen to them and their stories.
While the constant misgendering was making me dysphoric I didn't have the heart to tell him that I'm not a trans woman, it also made me really happy to know how good of a heart this man has and how enthusiastic he was for trans rights and our protection and basic rights.
I remember vividly that he told me once that he punched a Nazi before (where I live Nazis are more common than some people want to believe, it's kind of an open secret).
The stuff he was talking about wasn't even just surface level stuff (granted it was like 80% of more "easier" lecture of trans liberation), he knew some more in depth things. Like this random office jockey had actually read about it and actually listened to trans voices and actively educated himself.
I hope he is doing well, same with his wife. Never met and heard of him again, I don't even remember what thing I had to call because of the paper stuff.
I also genuinely IRL never met another cis allo hetero man be this passionate and loving for trans people (and queer people in general). He still had heart in his activism which I believe is something a lot of people lose or forget. The first thing for him seemed to listen to the oppressed people and give them love, kindness and acceptance.
I believe with all the things going on we forget a lot of times that yes punching Nazis is good and all but we also need safe spaces and love something or someone to make us feel human again. At least for me it is that way, I don't know how others feel about it, I think that we can't liberate people properly if we don't fight with our hearts.
Either way, fly high random secretary dude I hope you continue to have fun in your gay/queer bars.

honestly imo, queer allies are part of the community, in the same way family friends are part of the family. and i don't mean ally as in some non queer twitter liberal who sees us as a chess piece. i mean people who are really part of our lives and close to the community. people like truly supportive family and friends, or kinksters who've been rallying alongside queer people for decades.
i know there are many, many people who don't have dedicated allies in their lives - i dont. but i know they're there. i know they're beloved. and i don't think we're doing ourself any favors by acting like they don't exist. not just because many of them might very well queer. but because it's not true and downplaying their existence feels like hopelesness.
the idea someone could really care about us like that isn't hopeless. it isn't just an idea. it's far rarer than it should be, but it's real.

When it comes to people who aren't trans, the typical motivation for immersion in trans activism is a desire to be kind to trans people, because that is a coherent and politically desirable thing to aim for.

it’s funny how some transphobic/homophobic anti-woke people haven’t still caught on that David tennant is a trans and queer ally. They are still saying things like the new dw episode was a woke disaster but David tennant probably didn’t have a choice or he needed a job
that man screams trans rights every day he probably read the scripts and started bouncing up and down in joy saying “Russell I have an idea, let’s make it more queer”
