I have very specific “Bruce is a Jewish mom at heart” headcanons but one I hold true and dear is that he took one look at Dick’s brand new Nightwing costume (the first one he got after trying to move on from Robin), immediately turned to Alfred, and said “He needs a belt.” No approval, no disapproval — just confusion over where, exactly, Dick would be storing all the things he needs during an active patrol (this is his version of “where’s your coat?”) (Dick will take this as implicit criticism for years before he fully understands)

I agree with the person who says canon is made to be broken but heres another option: Dick after he meets Jason ot Tim snf is done with their nonsense vs Dick after after thr whole batfamily is forged and he's lost so many people hes just happy to talk to his family.

I genuinely love how in batfam fanfics….

Dick is like: little D (Damian), Timmy Tim, little wing (Jason) I’m on my way my baby bros!!!

And then in canon….

Dick: *perpetually perturbed by his codependent siblings but knows he’ll never not answer cause who else is gonna pull their dumbassses out the gutter*

So I've seen a lot of Bruce fics noting how his kids aren't kids anymore and are growing up, but I want to offer you another point of view...

The batkids star noticed how they dad is getting old...

Like, everyone usually makes jokes about how Bruce is practically an old man, and all that, but sometimes they're just doing something and suddenly their dad looks so tired.

Tim always jokes about how everyone will leave Bruce with gray hair at an early age, but that week when he stopped to discuss a case, he noticed for the first time how Bruce's hair had many gray strands.

Bruce puts on some reading glasses because you can't spend all night looking at screens in the dark and expect your eyes to work the same. When Jason sees him, he's about to make a comment until his brain clicks. Suddenly, Bruce looks very old, and Jason feels his breath hitch.

Dick just did a risky stunt and Bruce catches him (because obviously he catches him. His dad always catches him) but Dick notices how when he gets up Bruce has to hide how he needs to stretch because of how his bones crunched when he caught him.

It's all these little things. The kids notice, and suddenly Batman isn't just an endlessly distant symbol. Batman transforms into Bruce, their father, who at some point won't be young enough to keep up with them...

*slams fists on table* and Bruce trusts Dick so much he doesn’t even turn around right away when his younger self (Robin) appears behind him and asks for him. Bruce instantly knows it’s Dick without even needing to look at him. Bruce goes into dad mode for Robin even when Nightwing is RIGHT THERE?? Time travel shenanigans have NOTHING on the Batdad!

And now I present you- LET TIM HAS MASCOTS MY GOD. This kid wanted a pet for a long time, Dick has a dog, Damian has... a Zoo- Jason is his own fucking mascot (jk, I love him) BUT TIM DOESN'T. So, I was thinking, and the idea of him having stray birds was my favorite- but I couldn't choose between a bird ideal for spying (Doves) or a bird really cool looking with some mystical meaning behind them (Crows)... So I did both. (And yes, Brat was named after Damian as "Demon Brat")
