Red Robin and Signal were on a stakeout mission with Arsenal (Roy Harper). The night was slow, so Duke and Tim started chatting about anime. Duke was a huge fan and made it clear that slander against anime would not be tolerated.
Signal and Red Robin had been discussing Fullmetal Alchemist for the past twenty minutes after an hour of tedious surveillance, watching a building from a distance and waiting for the signal to strike.
Arsenal sat on the ground with his bow resting on his lap, contemplating whether he should have informed the sitter about Lian wanting a glass of water before bed.
Signal: I'm telling you, Edward should’ve killed that man. What he did to his daughter and dog was messed up. The man did this twice, mind you. Edward should’ve shoved that medal down his throat. Why did Scar get the kill?
Red Robin: Because Elric knew it would be wrong.
Signal (incensed): He turned his daughter into a Chimera! He did the same to his wife! None of them deserved that, but the father deserved to choke on that medal!
Red Robin (shrugging): That doesn’t mean he can react with murder. Elric knew he would regret it.
Signal (dismissive): See, if that was me—without the Signal persona—I would've done it!
As the two heroes continued to debate, Arsenal interrupted.
Arsenal: Edward killing the man would've felt like a hollow victory. He would’ve struggled even more with giving his chimera daughter a mercy killing. Scar showed regret too, but I believe he knew it had to be done. Plus, I like Scar, so I might be a little biased, but I stand by it.
Signal and Red Robin went silent, staring at Arsenal, surprised by the archer's take.
Signal (whispering): He watches anime?
Arsenal (overhearing them): I did a lot as a kid. Then, when I was a year into recovery, I rewatched Sailor Moon and went from there.
Signal: Subs or dubs?
Arsenal: Subtitles, since I know Japanese. Dubs if I'm multitasking.
Signal: That’s a good answer. Alright, shounen vs. seinen?
Arsenal (texting on his phone): Shounen. It’s cliché, but Dragon Ball still holds up. Except for the movie. That doesn’t count as a good movie, though.
Signal: Exactly!
Signal smacked Red Robin on the arm, repeating the word.
Red Robin: I said I didn’t hate the movie as much as you; that doesn’t mean I liked it.
Signal (suspicious): Mm-hm. Oh, I got one that’s Dragon Ball-related. Vegeta in the Buu saga—
Arsenal: The only one who knew what he was doing. Gohan constantly pissed me off.
Signal: My ninja! That’s what I’m talking about!
Signal high-fived Arsenal while the archer was busy texting the sitter for an update on whether his daughter was in bed.
Signal: I like him. He’s cool with me. Unlike you, saying One Piece is peak anime and that Boruto is good.
Arsenal (offended): Oh God!
Batman (shouting through all the communication devices): FOCUS!
Red Robin: If you just treat it like it’s its own thing—
Signal: We will talk about this later.

Finally, a take on The Boys that isn't dog shit!
A video by SheevTalks actually goes into stuff, which I had the same feelings about, on The Boys which I mean when I say: I do not like this Overrated As Fuck show on Superhero Deconstructions & Satire!
The whole takes from Right-wing dumbass Conservatives who realized it was a satire even on them when the whole point of The Boys was that it was a Satire on Superhero Genres & cliches as well as they System we live in.
Yet no one talked about the main problems of the show that're glaring!
My opinion is that a Superhero Deconstructions is that people can be/are good & kind, that's what makes Superman a compelling character.
The only things that, in my opinion, is the reason The Boys is popular is cause of Gore, Evil Superman & Satire while the writing is bad.
The entire base of The Boys is that it was made from the Hatred of Superheroes while having this Human Nature argument, which contradicts that message as Annie & Kimiko are prime examples of using their powers for good as it's from Human Conditioning from the Culture, that the entire show doesn't even know what it's suppose to be anymore. I can name my problems from A-Train, Butcher, Homelander, etc. as many of them are literally brought up by Sheev Talks as how The Boys makes no fucking sense other than; Garth Ennis hates Superheroes & Ennis wrote Crass, Uber-violent edgy comics with people who're so unrelatable and are so indistinguishable from bad guys and a complete slog of people I can't relate and just dislike: from a super baby of a mother who was sexually assaulted lasering it's way out of her and her husband bashes it to death with a lamp, to superheroes orally assaulting a woman in order for her to be a hero, to a person getting violated by a superhero for no reason or even having a clone of a superhero eating live babies other than it's dark & edgy.
Granted Eric Kripke toned all the original stories of Garth Ennis' comics, but even then the problems still flood within the stories of each episode and literally my problems with Deconstructions of Superheroes.
Honestly there are better Superhero Deconstructions like: Alan Moore's Watchmen, Roy Thomas' Squadron Supreme, Keith Champagne & Peter Tomasi's The Mighty & Mark Waid's Kingdom Come.
Which is objectively better than The Boys!
Sorry not sorry.

Marvel gave more credit to it's writers back in the 60s. Stan Lee, Roy Thomas, Gary Friedrich, Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, Gene Colan, Marie Severin, John Buscema, and more all got credit. Even the lettterers got credited. Sam Rosen and Artie Simek. Only ones not credited were the colourists (which is a shame, because i think that's an important job).
But DC...if you were lucky, DC might occasionally credit a writer or artist. But did they consistently do it? No. Never. The name of John Broome is pretty much never credited. Gardner Fox was only occasionally credited. Otto Binder, Bill Finger, etc. never really got much credit (i don't think). Also, not once did I see Carmine Infantino or Mike Sekowsky credited for their work on The Flash and the Justice League. DC had a credit problem, and now we don't know who to thank for half their stories now! As far as i'm aware, half the 60s aquaman stories have unknown writers because of this! So good job, DC! Terrific job! At least Marvel made crediting a more common practice!

Wait what do you have against Stan Lee. genuinely curious, I don't think ever seen you post about it
Nepotism hire office worker who's stuck as Marvel's only editor as the company (and frankly the entire comic book industry) are experiencing an implosion that almost takes out everyone in the late-1950's. Jack Kirby has nowhere left to turn to so he starts working at Marvel and has to brainstorm an entire new line of books to ensure the company stays afloat. Lee begins crediting himself as the writer across the entire line of books so he can collect the writer's paycheck (the "artists" at Marvel at this time were also the writers, they were submitting complete stories on a freelance basis, Lee would eventually mandate a system where dialogue and captions couldn't be written ahead of time so he could fill them in himself). Marvel blows up in popularity and Lee positions himself at the center of it, much to the ire of Kirby, along with Steve Ditko, Wally Wood, Dick Ayers, the list can go on. When Marvel is sold to Perfect Film and Chemical in 1968 and becomes a publically traded company, Lee is part of the "package deal" wherein whatever current corporate owner of Marvel can use him as the "original creator" figurehead as a means to block royalties for dozens of people who had worked at the company throughout the 1960's, and functionally its a role he kept for the entire rest of his life, and now your average person (along with a specific subset of industry veterans that can range from Roy Thomas to Larry Hama to Bill Mantlo to Jenny Blake Isabella) thinks of him as the original-idea-guy who ~actually~ created the line of characters now regarded as the "Marvel Universe".

You seem like the kind of person that would a) know this and b) not jump down my throat for asking, so I need to know: Is Dick Grayson actually, canonically Roma or is that something the fandom made up? I see so much discourse about this and no one has any receipts. I do read comics but not for Dick Grayson so I don’t know if it would’ve been in his solo or Urban Legends or what.
hi anon,
so I want to say upfront that I have no idea if Dick being Romani is currently canon; I don't really know what's been going on since Rebirth and I only very tangentially keep up with developments in contemporary comics. I will read it someday, probably, after I finish chewing my way through New Earth and then the New 52.
having said that: yes, in New Earth it was canon that Dick was Romani. as far as I can tell it was introduced to his character by writer Devin Grayson around the early 2000s; if it was referenced in earlier works featuring Nightwing, such as prior iteration of the Titans, I'm afraid that I haven't read those yet and would love to be corrected. whether or not Devin Grayson handles it well or in a way that's culturally sensitive is up for debate, but for better or worse it did become part of Dick's lore that Grayson sprinkled in fairly often.
one of the earliest instance I can remember of this being referenced is Lian Harper mentioning it to her babysitter in The Titans #6 (August '99), written by Devin Grayson:
and it comes up again in The Titans #16 (June '00), where Dick's father speaks to him in what Devin Grayson claims is Romani; I have no way of checking that for authenticity but I would genuinely kill to get an actual fluent speaker to look at it
and here's Gotham Knights #16 (June '01), also written by Devin Grayson, in which Bruce has a dream about his parents arguing with Dick's parents and Thomas Wayne calls Dick's parents an ethnic slur!
so, yes, it was canon in that sticky comic book sense where, at least when Devin Grayson was writing Dick, it was true that he was of at least some Romani ancestry.
again, there are many criticisms of Grayson's depiction of Romani people that I think are very warranted; in general I think she has kind of a blunt force approach to race and culture that leaves a lot to be desired (her handling of Roy Harper as a sort of honorary Navajo is, dare I say, pretty cringe). and like I said, can't speak as to whether or not this is currently considered true about Dick, but it's not something completely invented by fans.

Something that makes Daredevil more fun than Batman: Daredevil is funny. I'm personally going to attribute some of this to Marvel's writers in the 60s (like Stan Lee and Roy Thomas and stuff) because marvel seemed to make most of their characters be either really theatrical and dramatic or really silly. Dramatic ones include Namor, Thor and maybe Doctor Strange and stuff. Funny ones include Spiderman, Daredevil, Hawkeye, The Thing, Iceman, Beast, etc. Batman meanwhile is usually overly dark and serious. He was overly dark in the 40s and he's overly dark today. For a brief period in the 50s and 60s, he may have actually been okay. But it was the briefest period. Whereas most Marvel characters are still fun today (as far as I'm aware). So yeah, Daredevil (and to be fair, most marvel characters) are superior to Batman.
