A DC X DP IDEA #28
My Beloved
Imagine dis…
You know, I like misunderstandings…
I saw a bunch of prompts that Danny is the mother of Ellie and Dan who is angry and will destroy the world in the future.
I also saw a bunch of prompts of Danny and Phantom separating themselves and acting like two individual beings but having to be in proximity or else there would be consequences.
But I didn’t see anything about combining the two things…
HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE
Daniel “Danny” Fenton knew that he had many powers, that kept on growing and appearing at the heat of the moment. He would sometimes forget how many powers he had due to his never-ending list. He has powers that he likes to use often, like levitation, flight, intangibility, his ghostly wail, and many more… But even he has a favorite, his duplication power.
Unlike Vlad who can create multiple clones of himself to do his bidding, he can only create one.
Now don’t go on and underestimate him just because he can only create one despite Vlad making multiple and who is also a halfa.
His clone is unique, when he first discovered this power of his he was all alone in the house full of guns to kill him when a passing thought passed his mind. Wes was getting on his nerves with how he adamantly tried to prove that he was Phantom. He knew the consequences when the people knew the truth, especially his parents, every time he closed his eyes it always showed him and his parents at the other end of the dissecting table.
He kept on saving them, poor animal ghosts who had just stumbled through the portal. He kept on stuffing his face with his pillows just to block out the screams.
He had just blinked, one moment he was all alone and all of a sudden another appeared in front of him.
He was startled at the notion while the clone looked at him with interest.
The clone was not human-HIM per se, but it was the ghostly-HIM aka Phantom but with more ghostly attributes.
Snow white hair that seems to sway, taller by a few feet, pointed ears, fanged teeth, skin so blue, and white freckles that seem to give off a faint glow.
He tried going ghost but was unable to do so, what he can do is a weaker version of flight, intangibility, and invisibility. While Phantom got most if not all of his powers whenever he went ghost.
At first, he was ecstatic with this new power of his not only he can throw people off who are looking too deeply into Phantom’s identity and put an end to Wes’s chatter but with this new power of his he can finally have some sort of normalcy.
But after a few minutes, he began to feel fatigued and nauseous, Phantom slowly moved towards Danny and merged himself with his human half causing a faint white glow all over his body that he got used to whenever he was going ghost.
It was a few minutes, Danny thought to himself, but it was enough to not only create a separation between the kid who always hides in the bathroom or disappears whenever there is a ghost attack and a ghost kid who looks the same age as he and only appears whenever he disappears.
But it was enough.
Everything was great, as Phantom was able to deal with the ghosts that constantly invaded his hometown but also, he is slowly bringing his grades up from where it was before the accident. He also created an alibi for himself so people will know that both Phantom and Danny and two separate people.
Both sides were able to go on separated from each other the more time they spent separated
After a few days, something also began to change.
Phantom would sometimes make a joke or a quip about death or even puns that made Danny laugh. Phantom would be more serious whenever they got too far from each other, small things that made both Danny and Phantom different from one another from an outside perspective.
Both made a mental connection to each other.
Not like romantically, but more of a deep platonic love for each other.
Devotion to each of their other halves. So deep that one might double-take whenever they saw the two.
Danny loves his friends and family but even they cannot understand him ever since the day of the accident. Jazz blessed his sister’s soul, who read every book in every existence known to man and tried to help him. But the thing is, those books are for humans, not ghosts, and especially not for someone like him.
He died and came back to life knowing instinctively that something was wrong with him. He stands in between life and death. He knew he died and felt every bolt of electricity that had killed him. He who had to sit still at the dinner table listening to their parents who were supposed to love them, listened in great detail to what they would do to Phantom when they had caught him.
But Phantom, Phantom instinctively knew how he felt and heard his thoughts. When rough days came to Danny, Phantom quietly appeared behind him and offered his silent support.
Both needed each other to live, without the other one cannot survive on their own.
Phantom, when got too far and separated from his human for far too long got reckless, angry, cold, merciless, and ruthless. Nocturn got the burnt of it despite knowing that Phantom held back.
And Danny?
Got too emotional, and detached, and has that far-away look on his face. He would space out an entire war or destruction surrounding and he still would not notice.
Both are each other’s anchor and rock. And when both become one and become Phantom together then they will be unstoppable.
When Danny became the Ghost King it was clear they needed to separate often due to the amount of paperwork that was left pilling when Pariah Dark was in charge.
It became domestic, Danny thought as he paused for a bit when he was trying to write a book report from the Lord of the Rings courtesy of Mr. Lancer. Add the latest guests in his room he thought as he took a look at the sleeping and cuddled up Dan and Ellie who are now freshly de-aged due to some circumstances.
When Danny tried to explain to the two halves the reason why he and Phantom seemed to separate or why he was using this power of his almost every day.
Dan and Ellie seem the only two who didn’t feel weird at his new predicament. Both de-aged ghosts after a sudden bad melting episode and the start of someone’s redemption arc called human Danny is their mom while Phantom is their dad.
Danny at first surprised at the title given by the two but asked playfully to the twins why is he the mom. Phantom who was trying to cuddle the two de-aged ghosts whom he saw as his children at this point and his human counterpart mumbled about whether was it the time when he went and juggled flaming diapers or mastered the art of the 'mom stare' that could freeze a room?
Danny who is still in a bad mood from Dash’s bullying earlier snarked back at Phantom on how he got the dad title. Did he accidentally perfect the art of 'dad dancing' during ghostly gatherings? or accidentally stumble into a dad joke competition?
Sam, often would joke that if she didn’t know better, she would think the two would be lovers which would be found in Paulina’s A03 account and history.
Now that spread like wildfire, it spread faster than Wes could say Danny is Phantom. Now both GIW and his parents are out to get him for two different reasons… One Phantom mind controlled their precious son and now locked up Danny for his “own good” and two he was called a so-called “traitor” to his race as he fell in love with a creature who was not even sentient.
As things slowly went out of hand, Danny had to physically drag Phantom, who had been clawing and gripping to Danny like a lifetime ever since Danny told him to stay at the Infinite Realms for their safety, to a portal with the two children who have their eyes puffed red as they say their farewells to each other.
The JL is now confused, they kept seeing the same teen on the loose that appeared in various cities such as Metropolis, Central, Star City, and many more, with various government agents tailing him and trying to capture him.
At first, they thought it was another of Walker’s programs, in which they kidnap various kids who have a powerful meta ability to be part of a group that directly answers to the government.
But when it was revealed that he is another son of Bruce Wayne, it became personal.
Could it be another ploy to gain the Wayne enterprise through a much older and miniature appearance of Bruce Wayne, is it another ploy to gain Bruce Wayne’s wealth and money… They might never know.
Batman aka Bruce Wayne publicly announced that he had found another son who was rummaging in the trash of Gotham City, this way those mysterious agents could not publicly go after him as Danny had been publicly broadcasted and the manor is equipped with the latest security known to man.
Danny is very skittish the Batfam concluded, as if every move and twitch they made is something Danny should be wary of. Danny was too distracted to be sad, and have little to no energy to even join Dick and the rest of his siblings to bond over something.
However, that didn’t stop them from forming some sort of familial bond with Danny despite him being too guarded and too wary to get close to the family.
However, it all changed on a random day, as the entire noticed his change of mood. No longer the wariness, anxiety, and nervousness they encountered daily. Each of them began asking around within themselves if they were the one who made a change to Danny, even Alfred didn’t know who or what made him turn a 180.
Of course, when they tried to ask COUGH to interrogate COUGH Danny, he just kept quiet and smiled shyly.
..
Night comes and all the Bats are gathered at the cave to discuss what made Danny to be in a good mood before their patrol.
As they were just about to leave for their shift when Oracle notified them Danny leaving the manor.
Of course, all of them immediately followed him and followed him to a tall abandoned building with Danny sitting giddily on top of the said building. Of course, some of them have some dark thoughts about Danny sitting on top of a warehouse and seeming near the edge. One of the Bat broods is ready to interfere if Danny even makes any signs.
But all thoughts were thrown out as a crack seemed to tear through reality appeared behind Danny, Danny on the other hand looked ecstatic. As the tear/ crack opened up there they saw an underworldly being donned with a crown that is covered in various jewels, an outfit and cape fit for an emperor, and eyes that reminded them of the Lazarus pits.
Just as the moment they tried to calm their hearts down, Danny flung himself towards the unknown being and cried out beloved, the said being caught Danny and twirled him around.
Both are in their little world as they both keep laughing and hugging each other.
The Bat family who are still in the shadows kept their eyes on the two as they wanted to get Danny away from someone that made their instincts go haywire. Batman and Robin are both especially to grab Danny away from that thing.
Both the being and Danny finally settled down and began chatting to each other with little to no distance between the two. The being then summoned a basket that was full of unique and exotic food and then shared it with their new brother.
Then Danny suddenly asked about the kids, What kids!!! EVERYONE thought when suddenly two black blurs went and tackled Danny down, knocking the air out of him.
As the kids stopped hugging Danny, they all held their breaths, they looked like the perfect copy of Danny. Black hair and blue eyes, both kids exclaimed Danny as their mom while they pouted at the being and called him dad about hoarding their mom.
The reunited “family” began chatting about how they were at each other, more on the beings asking how Danny is especially doing.
Danny chatted about how the Waynes are too good for him and how he informed Batman since the Bats have a very close relationship with the Waynes. When one of the kids why mom needs to talk to Batman, Danny just casually reveals a bombshell on the Anti-Ecto laws, GIW, The Infinite realms...etc. So that both mom and dad could get together again, as mom aka Danny is trying everything to stop the war from the living world while their dad tries to stop the war from the Realms.
As they were chatting and catching up to one another, Danny looked at his wristwatch and told the kids that he had to get going or else the Waynes might notice that he snuck out. Both kids immediately cried and gripped Danny while the other being also known as dad didn’t even try to pry the kids off from Danny as he too wanted to stay with the human.
Of course, Danny gently pried off the three hands that were gripping and immediately one of the kids threw a tantrum at how Danny was not safe and might get him killed if he stayed there and Danny should just go with them. Of course, Danny shook his head and told the kid that Mommy was doing everything he could to protect both of them also he might not want to admit it in front of the Wayne but he did grow on them, like a fungus he can’t remove.
And so, the trio left the building after one last look and hug from Danny, Danny immediately lost the small life and cheerfulness that he had when he was meeting them and silently went back to the manor.
This made the Bat clan scramble to fix everything, all the while competing for the favorite uncle and aunt title while both Bruce and Alfred engage in their silent war for the grandpa title, when they showed their findings to the League both Booster Gold and the Flask stood up white as paper.
They claimed at the picture of Danny, that he may be the one who destroyed the future, but looked a little confused as some traits that they remembered were not on Danny which made them speculate that maybe he grew into. But when the two-time travelers explained in great detail his appearance, it matched the appearance of their nephew.
Is this the reason why Dan turned evil, humans have killed his family leaving him both angry and devastated that he let the world know of his pain?
PS: If someone out there wants to continue or make a fic about this you are free to do so, don’t forget to tag me though.
PPS: As you can see, I posted a bit early, I got a bunch of people to do and things to see. So uhh, bye-bye!
PPPS: This one got too long for my liking...

I am procrastinating homework and finals studying so I'm making another DPxDC au -- or more accurately, I am making an au of an au. or combining two aus to make a third one, because I am Procastinating And thinking about it.
(the part two for my Danny is Jason Todd au is like,,, half-made and I will get around to finishing it, promiiissse)
So the two aus I had in mind were combining, of course, the two clone aus - the Danny Clone and the Damian Clone au. For folks who haven't seen either posts (or saw one but not the other) here are summaries of both:
Damian Clone Au: The LoA make a clone of Damian Wayne specifically to either kill Damian Wayne and have the clone take his place as the heir to the LoA, or to bring him back. At 6 years old though and through magical teleportation mishaps, Baby Damian ends up in the warehouse district of Amity Park and picked up (and later adopted) by Danny Fenton. They develop a brotherly dynamic with one another.
Danny Clone Au: Danny is straight up a clone of Bruce Wayne, doesn't find out until a year after he has his accident. And, for the fun of it, is also mostly-powerless (he retains his ghost sense and a semblance of a ghost core and signature, but no ghost form). His reasoning for becoming Phantom is because he has walked into the lab watching his parents dissecting ghosts post-portal working more times than he can count. And due to this, changes his beliefs from "ghosts are evil" to "ghosts are sentient and sapient beings who don't deserve this treatment". (masterpost pinned on my blog, its currently incomplete) He is also a little GNC, as a treat. Long-haired Danny ftw. Ellie is a halfa because of the ectoplasm that Vlad used, and also the same age as Danny. They call each other twins and she is viciously protective of him. He uses a baseball bat and brass knuckles that I call 'jawbreakers' to fight ghosts.
Now admittedly, not much probably changes with the combination of these aus other than the potential parallels between Damian and Danny, and Bruce and Damian - and of course, I am always a sucker for parallels. Plus Damian's running off would take Danny finding him much longer, since he can no longer fly, but all the more meaningful because he still took so much time to find him.
(It probably also makes their first meeting different as well - Danny wears a ROTTMNT Casey Jones Jr. esq. mask when he goes out, but Damian would recognize lazarus green anywhere. He'd probably try harder to kill him though once he sees his face, since he knows that its not his father but an imposter.)
It also includes what I consider a hilarious conversation: "Since I'm a clone of Bruce Wayne, does this make me your dad or your brother?" "Don't be an idiot, laeazir." "You didn't answer my question."
The biggest change that comes from this is, of course, the fact that Danny now no longer has a leg to stand on with the "you're a human, I am a ghost" excuse in order to prevent Damian to help him with ghost-fighting, because now Danny is also a squishy, fleshy and fragile human just like Damian. And a human who, arguably, has less combat training than Damian and no powers to make up for it.
Now, Danny in both aus are about 16-17-ish in age, so they've had time to adapt to their new vigilante-hero lifestyle, but its still not the same as Damian's training as an assassin. Damian, unlike in the original clone au, remains insistent on his want to help Danny.
And,,, eventually wears him down after weeks or months of sneaking out after him, helping in fights, interfering, arguing, etc. Danny eventually agrees, exhausted, but he makes Damian promise, promise, that he will be careful and to focus on dodging and distraction. At least until Danny can figure out a safer alternative. He wants him as far removed from the fight as he can, he's a child for ancient's sake, after all.
Which is another issue too - if we follow Damian Clone timeline, then Damian is six years old when this happens. I'll be point blank, I do not see Danny ever actually agreeing to let a literal 6 year old go with him. SO, solution, I bump Damian's age to 7 when he arrives in the Fenton Family, and make him freshly eight years old when he finally gets Danny to agree.
It still SUCKS. He is still very much an itty bitty child, but as someone who has seen the difference between a six year old and an eight year old due to working at a daycare, an eight year old is still... slightly feasible. And an 8 year old assassin even more so (even if he hasn't trained properly in nearly a year or so)
So Danny, reluctantly, agrees to let Damian come with him on patrols.
He ghost-proofs Damian's sword (as he has since learned to do with his bat and jawbreakers), makes him a grappling hook and a Fenton thermos, and reluctantly lets Damian come with in his old LoA uniform that he appeared in (with some tailoring and ghost-proofing, because he has since begun to grow out of the uniform).
(and Danny himself also finally starts looking into alternatives to improve his own "suit" - which is all but a hoodie and reinforced jeans and a hockey mask. He needs to set an example to his little brother, goddammit.)
Then, as they're planning for Damian's eventual (dreaded on Danny's part) debut, they sit in their shared room and brainstorm for what to call Damian. "Ellie already uses the name Spirit." Danny says, sitting criss-cross at his desk with the eraser nub of a pencil chewed between his teeth.
(Behind him he has an investigative corkboard set up -- his accident left him with the ability to see ghosts not capable of being seen on the visible plane. 'Stereotypical' ghosts. Between school work, his social life, and ghost fighting, some of his downtime is spent figuring out ways to help them move on. His most recent is a cold case.)
(Bc with Danny, I loove to have him have some sort of trait that ties him in with his original counterpart. Nature vs Nurture and all that. Investigative work can be part of that.)
"What about Wraith?" Damian suggests from the floor, leaning against the bed frame while he goes over one of his english books. They've been practicing his reading and writing.
Danny furrows his brows. "A ghost seen typically shortly after or before someone's death?"
Damian nods. "Yes, it's of a similar cadence to 'Batman and Robin'."
"What's with you and your thing with Batman and Robin?" Danny asks with a playful half-smile, Damian shrugs and looks at his books. Danny sticks the eraser back between his incisors. "Phantom and Wraith... that works, though."
The first night out together, Danny fusses over Damian, making sure every bit of uniform was secured and in place -- something Damian took mild offense over. His outfit was far more reinforced than the juvenile get-up that his older brother wore.
But he let him fuss anyways. It made him loved.
"Now remember, Wraith--"
Damian interrupts him: "Yes, I know, Dany. Avoid and distract. Stay situationally aware. I fear that is something I should be telling you, however. Mother would have your head if she ever saw what your training was like."
(It was, not for the first time, that Damian wondered how his,,, "mother",,, would react if she ever met Danyal. Not good, he knows.)
Danny's shoulders sag, and he sighs. "I believe that, what with that super-secret spy--"
"Assassin."
Danny sends him a half-hearted chagrined look, "Assassin," he corrects, "organization that made you. I'm sure I'd give your mother an aneurysm." When he's finally okay with whatever make-believe issues he found with his suit, Danny reaches for the nearby side table and carefully slips on a black domino mask over Damian's eyes. It was thin, flexible, and made with some kind of material that Danny reassured was environmentally safe.
("Some kind of matieral that Wayne Industries invented awhile ago, Sam bought it for me." Danny told him when he first showed it to him.)
It was also cold. But the chill was made up for, slightly, with Danny's warmer hands smoothing it out over his skin, and ridding of any ridges that could form. Damian isn't sure entirely what Danyal did to keep it stuck onto his face, but when he touches it with his fingers he feels a very faint seam at the edge, and it doesn't budge against his hands. It felt like a second skin.
"There we go." Danny smiles, pulling his hands back. He still looks nervous. "It's not the same as my hockey mask," which sat atop his head, ready to be pulled down, "but I think a domino mask will work better for you considering your background."
He was right, a hockey mask would only hurt Damian's peripheral vision. This mask was thin enough that it didn't.
"Ready to go, Wraith?"
"After you, Phantom."
+++
Damian has much issue with Danny's suit. He can think of a million ways to make it better. It is one of the things he and Samantha Manson can get along with, and the few times they have spent time together they have brainstormed suit ideas. He knows that since Danny took him on as Wraith, he has started to look into better suit alternatives.
However. They are both aware of the same thing:
Danny is not Batman, nor Superman, nor Wonder Woman, nor Aquaman, or the Flash, or Green Arrow, or Nightwing, or any single hero on the public roster. He is also not rich like Lex Luthor or Vlad Masters or Bruce Wayne himself.
He has no money and no contacts, and thus, no way of properly improving his suit to be something even half as safe as the other supers.
And he refuses to let Samantha Manson help him find a way to fix that - even with all that money, Samantha Manson is on an allowance from her parents, and also, despite her other range of abilities, not capable of getting those materials without putting herself on a list of some sort. They are at a standstill.
Damian knows this, because he has asked.
Until one day when Danny is talking about a case he is working on and telling Damian about old adventures he had in the Ghost Zone, does he see his brother get hit with a lightbulb.
He slaps a hand against his forehead and straightens up from his swivel seat. He huffs a laugh, "Of course! Why didn't I think of it sooner?" And he turns on his heel and hurries to his bookshelf, pulling down a notebook and flipping open to an empty page.
Damian frowns, "Laeazir?"
"I know you don't like my suit, Damian," Danny says, striding over to his desk and snatching a pencil out of a cup. He begins jotting something down on the notebook. "And there's nothing I can really do about it because, well, I'm poor in comparison to my facesake, and I don't have the resources to get my hands on someone who would make me a new suit."
"Yes, we have talked about this..." Damian nods slowly, still frowning, and trying to follow his brother's line of reasoning.
Danny shoots him a megawatt, half-tilt smile, his hair tied up into a half-bun. "But! I was thinking about it from the wrong angle. I don't have the living resources to help me get a suit, but..." he trails off, staring at Damian intently.
It dinged in Damian's brain to where he was going, "But you have the undead resources instead." He says, his eyes widening slowly. Of course, of course! Danyal was ridiculously charismatic by accident, and Damian has seen plenty of times where his heart-of-gold had one or two non-hostile ghosts be incredibly grateful to him.
His brother makes a loud, 'ding-ding-ding!' sound, pointing his pencil at Damian as his smile stretches further across his face. In a few quick strides, he was sat down next to Damian and showing him his notebook. "Correct! When I first started out as Phantom a few years ago, I managed to help a ghost who called herself Taylor, and apparently she was a seamstress both in and out of life."
Damian watches as Danny writes the name at the top of the paper, and creates bullet-points down the page. "She said that in return for saving her, I should come find her in the Ghost Zone if I ever need clothes made for me. It's a one-time thing, but I was thinking that she could perhaps help make me a new suit."
Danny turns a bit pink at the ears, and rubs his neck, "I never thought much of it because I didn't think I'd ever go into the Ghost Zone, or ever need ghost clothes, so I forgot about it up until now."
A scoff forces itself out of Damian's mouth, but he is smiling. "Danyal, you are the smartest idiot I have ever met."
For the next hour, both he and Danny make a bullet point list of what both of their suits would need. Reinforcement in certain areas, gauntlets with reinforced knuckles to replace Danyal's jawbreakers. A different weapon than a bat.... a utility belt, reinforced boots. Anything they could think of.
It was Damian's idea to add a cloak to both of their suits, asymmetrical and torn at the edges for a more 'ghostly' look. They have a theme, after all. It's quite fun.
Then Danyal calls up Sam for help in drafting up design ideas. And while Danyal steps mostly to the side when it comes to the design itself, Damian and Sam fill pages with designs until coming up with one they both agreed on and like.
"What about a lightning bolt on the chest?" "Why are we using my traumatic accident as a symbol of my identity?" "Ghosts do it all the time, Danny. Ember sings about her death." "I'm not dead?" "No that won't work, Manson. Shazam already has a giant lighting bolt emblem." "Okay, but I still want to use it somewhere." "How about this?" "...That could work. Okay, now onto your emblem--"
Last was the hard part: getting into the Ghost Zone without the Fenton parents noticing the disappearance of their precious Fenton Specter Speeder. They employed Jazz's help with that. She would get the Fentons out of the house long enough for him and Danny to get into the ghost zone, hopefully find the seamstress, and cash in that favor.
They went through with their plan that following weekend. Danny tossed Damian a small jumpsuit as they both climbed into the specter speeder, but did not grab his own. He had a small duffle bag on him that he threw under the seat.
"What is this?" Damian asks, nose scrunching up at the gaudy picture of Jack Fenton's face square at the center of the chest. He held it far away from it, as if it had a disease.
"Your hazmat suit." Danny replies, settling himself into the driver's seat as the door hissed shut and he began turning it on. He had some sort of gas mask on in his lap, too small to fit Danny's head, but certainly the right size to fit Damian's. "Normally you wouldn't need it since you'd stay in the speeder, but we're both getting out once we find Taylor. It's to protect you from the ectoplasm."
A scowl forces itself across Damian's face, "You don't have one." He points out, finding seat in the passenger chair next to Danny. His arms cross over his chest, and he was not pouting.
Danny looks at him amusedly, "I have enough ectoplasm in my body that I don't need one, you however, do not." He retorts, poking a finger into Damian's ribcage pointedly. "If you don't put it on now, you'll put it on when we find Taylor."
Damian's scowl deepens, feeling petulant as he sunk into his chair. Danny turns back to the console and flips a few more switches. "I will not, it looks ridiculous." He turns it around to show Danny the Jack Fenton Face.
The Specter Speeder hums to life, and there's a moment of turbulence as it lifts off the ground. While it does, Danny turns back to him blankly, stares at the emblem, and then reaches forward and yanks it off with a scriiiiich of the emblem. He crumples it up with one hand, and throws it into a small bin at his feet.
"There, fixed." He smiles. Then turns back to the controls, taking the yoke with both hands. "And I'm calling Dad Rights; you will put it on when we find Taylor or you'll stay in the speeder."
Damian sputters, sitting up incredulously. "You are not my father." He argues.
"Teeechnically, I am." Danny says, "I'm a clone of your father, and since I am fully his clone, that makes you my son by a technicality." He says cheerfully, pushing the specter speeder forward and into the swirling green portal.
Before Damian can retort, they're passing through the portal. This was his first time going into the Ghost Zone, and for a few seconds there was nothing but bright, swirling green filling his vision. His body felt like it was being twisted and pulled, his up and down reversing and returning. It was painless, but dizzying.
It only lasts for a few seconds, but it feels like a minute, and when they exit out the other side, Damian is holding his head while his vision spots and swims. Internally, he felt like those cartoon characters when their eyeballs rolled around in their head.
The dizziness fades away slowly, and as Damian regains his sight, he notices Danny's hand splayed over his sternum, gently keeping him pressed against his seat. It fell away when Danny saw that he was alright.
"Put your seatbelt on," Danny orders, nodding to his chair. Damian listens absently, before remembering their conversation before they went through the portal.
"That is not how it works." He scowls, and, annoyingly, only gets a challenged eyebrow raise from Danny. He could see the words written on his face without Danyal ever having to say it.
Because, dangit, he was technically right. Damian refuses to say this aloud. He screws his jaw shut, and crosses his arms back across his chest.
Danny chuckles under his breath, and turns his eyes back to the ghost zone. "My point still stands, either you wear the suit, or you don't leave the speeder."
"Fine."
+++
They eventually find where the seamstress is. Through quite a lot of Danny stopping to ask questions with any friendly ghost he came across, they eventually locate an island with a strange, urban city bustling with life on it. Massive, rocky stalagmites grew from the ground, and buildings were built on top of it or around it, with strange, warping architecture.
It was oddly beautiful.
Danny parked the speeder on the side of the street with a two hour parking sign on a nearby post. As he turned off the engine, he flipped a switch on the console that darkened the windows. He unbuckles his seat, and stood up, stretching out his back with a deep groan.
"Alright, put your suit on. The windows are tinted, so nobody should be able to see into the speeder." He orders, pulling out the duffle he brought in earlier and unzipping it. He pulls out his hockey mask and the hoodie he wore out for patrol, and the notebook they'd been using to jot down ideas for their suit.
Danny even had the hindsight to write in their respective heights, and with Tucker's help, some of their measurements. While he did that, Damian sourly pulled on his hazmat suit, irritated by the need to wear it.
Unfortunately, he also had to wear the boots and gloves for 'extra precaution'. Damian nearly bites out a grumpy 'you're as paranoid as father', but holds his tongue. He wasn't going to tell Danyal that secret.
Once he was done and Danny has his hockey mask and hoodie on, Danny grabs the gas mask and helps fit it over Damian's face. It was a sleek, simple design, shaped similarly to a regular face mask, with little filters on both sides of the mouth and a clear, protective covering around the eyes and forehead. Danyal improved it from the original his parents made.
He was smarter than he gave himself credit for.
Danny checks, then double checks that it the mask is tight, then smiles. Patting Damian's shoulders before standing up fully. "Taylor's shop should be somewhere nearby." He says, grabbing the notebook and tucking it under his arm.
Damian nods, and follows him out the door and onto the busy streets.
Finding Taylor becomes remarkably quick now that they were inside her city - something that Damian silently wondered was based loosely off NYC. Danny kept a firm arm around Damian's shoulders the entire time they walked down the street, keeping the both of them on the inside sidewalk.
Barely anyone passed them a second glance, spare the few odd looks shot at Damian. Danny whispers to him the first time it happens that it's because he has no ghost core, those more attune to their signatures might've been picking up on it.
They didn't notice Danny, because he had one, albeit a weak one.
Taylor's shop has a big sign on it in logographic writing that Damian has no idea how to read. The text shifts slowly, a jambled squiggle of lines, dots, and connected curves that look like a mix of messy cursive, gibberish, and logographic alphabets. He only knows its Taylor's shop because Danny pulls them towards it, stating that it was the place.
"You can read that?" He asks, incredulous as they draw closer to the door. Danny moves his arm off his shoulder, and wraps his fingers around Damian's instead.
"Yep," He replies, then scrunches his nose up, "sort of. It's - uh--" he stumbles over a word that Damian's ears cannot comprehend, but fills his head with slight static regardless. Danny winces. "It's the written form of ghostspeak, but since I'm not a ghost, I can only read some of it. Like uh, dyslexia."
"...I see." Damian says after a moment of silence, trying to replay the word in his head. His mind can't grasp the sound.
When they enter, the door doesn't ding with the sound of a bell, but rather it makes a low scream. Nobody bats an eye to the sound, keeping to their slow search through the racks of clothes.
At the counter was a woman talking quietly to another woman, one of whom Danny recognizes, as he walks over to her.
He doesn't need to say anything, because the woman behind the counter sees him coming, and her face positively lights up with delight. "Phantom!" She cries, and gestures to come over. "I was wondering when in the high ancients you were going to come see me!"
Danny's face is obscured by his mask, but Damian knows he's smiling sheepishly with the way he tilts his head and the way he tenses his shoulders. "My bad, Miss Taylor," he says, reaching the counter and standing beside the woman she was talking to, "It kinda... slipped my mind."
Taylor waves her hand dismissively, "Well you are here now!" She replies, grinning wide. Then her eyes pop open - literally - and she puts a hand over her chest. "Oh, how rude of me!" She turns and gestures between Phantom and the lady next to him, "Miss Mabam, this is Phantom. I told you about him a couple of years ago. He saved me from humans. Phantom, this is Gigi Mabam, she funds my shop. In return I make clothes for her and her staff."
The 'Gigi' woman turns just as Danny does, and smiles wide at him. Damian narrows his eyes at her, shuffling behind Danny legs as he looked her up and down. She had silvery-white hair and purple skin, and wore a darker purple business suit, a red gem cravat at her collar, and teal cat-eye glasses.
There was a lot of purple.
"So this is the ghost-touched you were telling me about, dear!" The woman, Mabam, said. Her voice was rich and low but she spoke in a whimsical cadence. It made Damian's skin crawl, and his narrowed eyes turned into a glare. "I must thank you for saving my seamstress, it would've been quite a fizzy-wink if she had been lost to those ghosty hunters."
What were those nonsense words? Damian hated it.
"Miss Mabam here runs a five-star hotel nearby," Taylor explains, her body turned to Danny, "she also is in charge of the city's Battle Nexus."
Danny is silent for a moment, and his free hand lifts and places itself on the back of Damian's head, keeping him close. "Battle Nexus...?"
Mabam claps cheerfully, laughing low, "Oh yes! Ghosts from all around the zone come to attend and watch as their fellow haunties are ripped from limbity-limb in a blood-curdling battle!"
Danny is still as stone. "I see." He says, careful. Damian wraps his fingers around his pant leg. "Well, I hate to interrupt your conversation, but I was hoping to cash in that favor, Miss Taylor?"
"Of course! What do you need?"
Danny looks down at Damian, and he looks up at him, locking eyes with the ominous green glowing from the eyeslits of his mask. He nods, and Danny looks back up. "Do you know how to make suits? Of the protective kind?"
+++
The seamstress it turns out, is capable of such a thing. And she ushers the both of them into one of the backrooms, sending off Mabam with a farewell and a promise to continue their conversation soon.
She flips through their design book, and immediately gets to work making their suits. In the end, with the help of her powers, she gets both done over the span of four hours. It's longer than both Danny and Damian want, but neither rush her.
Damian just hopes that Jasmine can keep the Fenton parents distracted for that long. She will have to.
The suits are better in real life than on paper, and Damian preens from the side in his own custom suit as Danny examines his own in front of the three mirrors. They were both dressed in all black, but whatever fabric Taylor used was of a blackest-black, turning Danyal - and Damian's - bodies into a black hole to look at. Both of them were fitted for agility, with reinforced padding around their shoulders and chests, as well as around the joints of their legs. Their boots were reinforced as well.
("It was hard to make your boots shock absorbent," Taylor explains, "since we all fly, but I applied similar stuff to what I did with your shoulders and chestplate.")
On the side of Danyal's legs were raised, black, lichtenberg-like figures that were contained to the seams and disappeared under his boots. There were similar designs going up his sleeves, with spiked gauntlets wrapped around his lower arm and hands. The knuckles were reinforced, just like he wanted.
Damian's favorite parts were their capes, however. Black like the rest of the outfit, but "wrapped" around their shoulders like an apocalyptic shawl with a back that went down to their knees, and at the hems the capes were torn and ripped like a wraith. Danyal's mask had gone through very little change. It was made of a stronger material, and Taylor had gone and made it more skull-like in its shape, with three large grills at the front, and the sides curving inward below the 'cheekbones' of the skull to better fit his face. It was still shock white, the only white part of Danyal's entire costume.
Damian's suit was almost identical. However, rather than having the seams of his suit resemble lichtenberg figures, the seams of his sleeves and upper torso were that of a black skeleton, with bone-y designs over his gauntlets and the fingers an ombre of dark red-to-black. And around his torso were raised lines that looked similar to a ribcage. The edge of his cloak was splatter a dark red as well. And he had a new domino mask that looked similar to the upper half of Danyal's mask, with the outer edges curved downward over his cheekbones. He was briefly allowed to take off the upper part of his gas mask to try on the mask.
The best part however, was that since the suits were made of material native to the ghost zone, they could also be taken off quickly and hidden in a small artifact. It was magic, is what it was. Danyal chose earrings, and Damian chose a ring.
When they got back to the Fenton house, Jazz demands a box of chocolate for her hard work. Damian thinks that's only fair as Danny takes them both out to get candy for Jazz.
+++
But other than vigilante stuff, not else much changes. Danny gets to pull a "Dad By Technicality Rule" card over Damian when he's being a brat. Danny doesn't have his run in with Rift (a ghost who portals him into Gotham) until after he meets Damian/lets Damian join him on patrol and when they get new suits.
My reason? Because I want it to happen after that point in time lol. It also makes the eventual "heyyyyy you have a clone" @ bruce much funnier to me because not only does he have a clone of HIMSELF but also THAT clone has a clone of Damian living with him.
Also when Danny destabilizes for the first time Damian is terrified for his safety. The fentons are surprisingly good at cloning, Danny hasn't had any issues up until this point in time, and that's only because he got hit with a new gun from Skulker that messed up the ectoplasm he had in his dna, which in term fucked with his own DNA.
Danny's destabilization, imo, is not "I cast you with Melt" he's not Ellie, he's not made of 50% ectoplasm. His parents surprisingly knew what they were doing, and he was human. So his destabilization should be unique to himself and different. Thus his destabilization is "I cast you with Compromised Immune System" his body slowly weakens over time as his cells destabilize. He becomes unnaturally frail and sick. Damian calls Ellie for help when Danny doesn't get up after being hit in a fight that he normally, and Ellie helps figure out that he's destabilizing. This is whats gonna happen in OG clone au too, but Ellie is going to be there rather than Damian.
It makes going to Wayne Manor after that slightly more interesting,,,
#dpxdc crossover#dpxdc#dp x dc#dp x dc crossover#danny fenton is not the ghost king#danny fenton is a clone#damian clone au#i couldnt NOT describe their new suits. i just couldn't. they're leaning into the ghost culture of being scary as fuck looking#i feel a little cheesy for giving them magic jewelry that lets them hide their suits instantly#but i have to make up for danny's lack of ghost form SOMEHOW#damian just gets it too by association#if anyone is curious#Ellie's ghost form is identical to Danny's suit just the colors are inverted. so her suit is all white and her mask is all black#its not a starry au unless its got a read more#did anyone notice the Big Mama cameo from ROTTMNT#its because Danny's mask looks like Casey Jones Jr's mask from ROTTMNT without the red marks on the eyes#Danny and Damian's dynamic itches my brain#Danny: im calling Dad Rights - youre grounded#Damian: nnOOOO#also also. danny uses sign language if he's in view of the living since they could recognize his voice. damian does not yet know ASL#so thats on his 'languages to learn' list#although he is not seen by the public since he has school and ghost attacks happen around danny and not him#Red Huntress gives the Phantom so much shit when she sees his sidekick. Vlad has Pit Rage
So, we all know the idea of Pit Rage. When you are submerged in a Lazarus Pit, you will become insanely mad for a while, and in the Fanon it is permanent.
Well, in Danny Phantom we do know of one other person who was infused with Ectoplasm (aka Lazarus), who had a personality change after his accident, who had years to build up his hatred, who never got the help he needed.
Vald. It's Vlad. Due to a fuckup when making the Proto-Portal, Vlad was blasted with Corrupted Ectoplasm rather than the Pure Stuff, which gave him Pit Rage.
Pit Rage is basically a Chronic Condition, and once Vlad figures out that he needs help while on his whole Redemption Arc (read A Glitch In Time, I beg you), he goes to the Far Frozen to seek their help.
He gets some Medication that helps suppress the Pit Rage, and goes on with his journey of Redemption.
Then, one day while he is wandering through Gotham, he meets a Kid who is seriously I'll. Like, he's almost as Bad as Vlad himself was before he got the Medication he needed!
So, he gets some of his Emergency Medication and has the kid take some. Thankfully it helps him calm down and gets him to stop Shooting Vlad. (He jad been unloading clip after clip into Vlad until he finally calmed down)
Now he needs to take this Kid to Frostbite so he can get his own source of Medication, and the easiest way is to just kidnap him. Not like he was being watched at all, honestly people need to take better care of their Kids.
...
Batman is panicking.
Some Vampire guy just fed Jason some weird drugs that made him calm down significantly and them kidnapped him through a Glowing Green Portal.
Was his son just Drugged and Kidnapped?

lying in bed making myself sad about cartoon characters this fine night. Showing in Brain Theater tonight: “what if Maddie vivisected Vlad”
Danny, in a fit of frustration after fighting Plasmius and getting beat up Yet Again, or maybe to test the waters for how his parents would react to “someone you know is a half-ghost”, tells them.
Jack is shocked. Heartbroken. Disbelieving. My man Vladdie? A ghost? How??
Maddie is less disbelieving. She’s gotten the chance to study ecto-acne now. For it to reoccur after so long must mean there’s something ectoplasmic highly integrated into Vlad’s body.
Also…
When she shows up at his door with Ghost Catching gear, she gets to finally let out everything she’s been building up, simmering and repressing.
“He was my friend!” she gets to shout at a trapped Plasmius. “And he changed, after the accident. He got selfish and possessive and cruel and—and mean. Obsessed. And maybe he was always a bit petty. He was always a little selfish. He was a business major, after all.” (“Hey,” Vlad says.) “But he was never mean like that. And he was never possessive, or cruel. And I wondered how that happened. How the Vlad I knew in college could have turned into that. But that wasn’t him, was it? It was you. You’ve been possessing Vlad for twenty years, warping him, twisting him, making him cruel and obsessed, the way ghosts are! That wasn’t Vlad, it was you.” Plasmius trues to protest. That isn’t how it works. This is him.
But in the choice between believing that her friend from college doesn’t see her as a whole person, but a malleable romantic prize that he was Owed and Still Deserves, that that was his angle and the friendship wasn’t real, that maybe that was what he was thinking every time they talked, every time she thought they were friends, all along… (and maybe, just maybe, that his resentment kind of has grounds, actually, that she and Jack weren’t good friends to him after the accident, were they)… or that he’s been taken over by a ghost and all the bad things he’s done since then are due to ghostly influence twisting him into a monster…
One of those is emotionally much easier to believe than the other.
“I’m going to get the ghost out of you, Vlad,” Maddie says, firing up some scary looking equipment. “And see if there’s anything of you left.”
And then there’s Vlad, strapped to a lab table, realizing that the docile and beautiful Maddie in his head who just needs to be separated from the corrupting influence of Jack and then she’ll be his ~Perfect Wife~ that she should have been is not real. That he’s been denying her involvement in the Ghost Portal Incident when it was her goddamn idea. He’s been mentally writing her out of all of her own ghost science, blaming it on Jack when, no, she is Like This all on her own and will never not be Like This. Both of them staring at the other, red eyes meeting red goggles, and neither wanting to believe in the real person in front of them, preferring to see each other as an idealized memory rather than face who they actually are as people.
And, maybe the ghost part of Vlad was affecting him, amplifying feelings that were already there in him, making him obsessive, unable to let go… but at the same time, if he isn’t the same person at 42 as he was at 22, who ever is?
The ecto-scalpel comes down. They’re both hurting.

There is this DP hero au that has been floating my head for awhile that is pretty detached from DP but I find it cool so I am going to ramble about it to myself.
Basically, there is a school for heroes and while it is a very selective and secretive program, it host a camp during the summer for anyone who wants to be a hero, but you have to get recommendation from a hero.
Since Valerie’s dad works at Axion, he and Valarie the only two that are allowed to leave Amity (excluding when the Fentons go to visit Vlad). One of these work exertions, Valerie’s dad was helping out with some security and a villain attacked and tried to steal some tech. Some heroes quickly made their way to the lab only to find, Valerie had already dealt with the villain. Seeing her skill, the heroes gave her a recommendation to go to the summer camp and she had been going ever since.
Fast forward a few years, Valerie finds out Danny is Danny Phantom and joins the trio in fighting ghosts. However, as the summer is approaching, Valerie finds out that since she has been working with the heroes so much and has been considered very trust worthy, she is allowed to recommend one person to go to the summer camp.
Valerie takes this information to the group, who is surprised that heroes actually exist, and after a lot of thinking decided that it would probably be best if Danny went with her.
So when the summer finally arrives, Danny and Val head travel to the summer camp and meet all the other characters.
Here the show finally begins(my head has been formatting this world as a tv show, kinda like my hero or Owl house).
Instead of Danny being the protagonist, it is another person, a kid who was once saved by a hero and now wants to do the same. Danny will be the antagonist and the protagonists foil, a kid who didn’t get to choose being a hero and while both of them are on the same side, they have completely different ideologies regarding authority and government, the protag’s being that authority often times does want to help and if it doesn’t it’s your job to get involved and change it, come from their experience with heroes, and Danny’s being that authority doesn’t have your best interest in mind and you should just throw the whole thing out, coming from his experience with the GIW.
There is a good hand full of characters, kinda in the same vain as Assassination Classroom, and the ones I have made so far are the protag, a kid who specializes in demons and believes ghost exist but no one believes him, a teacher who is an ex-hero who retired after sustaining an injury that left him with a permanent limp, a teacher who is a veteran hero who had been in services for the same amount of time as ex-hero, an old nurse who's tired of kids hiding their injuries, and Valerie's and Danny roommates, Val's is a girl who currently questioning her sexuality and Danny's is a guy who can sleep through the loudest of explosions.
In the rest of the world, ghosts aren't thought to be real and don't really show up often. This is because there isn't enough ectoplasm to sustain them outside of Amity and the GIW have hidden any evidence of there existence. So Danny has to hide his powers from everyone except Valerie, which he does but he still give off a cryptic vibe and does and knows things that he probably shouldn't do or know. This has resulted in everyone thinking Danny has been possessed by a demon or became demonic due to the accident that happened to him.
I think I'll start writing the synopsis from some episodes later on but for know have the files on Danny (Danny design is insipired by @nicktoonsunite)

Here is Danny’s hero costume;

Barry, Constantine, and the Kid
I was reading "I Just Wanna Talk" by foldingfacets and the way Barry interacts with Danny, and his whole misunderstanding just gave me a very very good fic idea.
Danny was Constantine's kid! But thanks to whatever ex had him, John had no idea who Danny was, nor that his kid had been put up for adoption. (I'm feeling a random one-night stand with some god-adjacent being so that Danny was already very much Other, compared to normal people). His not fully human blood had him survive the Fenton household, seeing as Jazz had radiation exposure since she was little basically so she'd survived thanks to that.
Danny kinda figured he was adopted. Sure his hair was black like Jack's and his blue eyes weren't anything abnormal, but his parents were both very very white. And he was much more tan, definitely Mideastern. Jazz actually confirmed it when he asked one time, but he still loved them all dearly. He tried to love them all, but it was hard when the only one he really remembers raising him is his sister. Until the accident happens and things just go south.
Like, Danny does his whole hero thing, and works things out with his ghosts because most of them were either messing around or didn't realize he was actually a baby ghost because he was so strong or smth, idk, they cooperate with him and just come to bug him and play fight when bored or needing to satisfy their core. All in all, he's King of the Infinite Realms now and he is not having a good time tm-
He's SEEN all the John Constantine things, but never bothered with tracking this guy down because hey! selling his soul to multiple entities to prevent ANYONE from getting it was really smart! Who was he to fault the guy.
It kind of all comes crashing down though when things go horribly ary with his adoptive parents. He overheard them talking, and even though they did love him, he learned that to them he wasn't just their kid. He was still the kid Jazz really wanted for a brother. After literally growing up in their house, he wasn't on the same level as Jazz. Simply because he was adopted, and neither had truly planned to adopt him.
And despite learning this, he tries so hard to still love and few them as his parents, because he's NOT their kid! They're right, but they still raised him no they didn't it was Jazz and he thought that they at least loved him more than that some part of him knew they never had. So when Jazz suggests they tell them, together for his own safety, he agrees for two reasons. 1, he loves and trusts Jazz and she really wanted to believe they were better than just ghost hunting. 2, he could finally know the truth, whether they would not believe him, hate him, or love him.
They don't.
Maddie and Jack both believe he died due to their creation. They don't doubt that for a moment. Jazz is thrilled at first, thinking that meant they would feel sorry, apologize, accept Danny, ANYTHING except harm him. But she was wrong as they tried to shoot him. She tried to stop them, and they told her even if he was Danny, that he was a ghost which meant it wasn't ever really going to be him again. And Jazz was horrified, asking how they could shoot their own son, ghost or not, and as if it was the simplest thing in the world, they say he wasn't their son.
And that was it.
Danny ran.
He hid in the ghost zone, and Jazz tried to come with. She ended up destroying the portal, outing Vlad, and running away with a voice recorder of their parents and the conversation they'd had. Sam and Tucker have to lay low, only messaging Danny to ask if he'd been hurt.
Danny didn't reply.
After a few months, his friends had gotten a reply a few days after, so had Jazz, saying he was fine and Fright Knight was watching over him, which was true but the Knight was more worried than anything, Pandora stopped by. She was kind of like an aunt, so she hated to see him sad. But she'd also realized something.
Halfa, as most VERY old ghosts and Ancients know, are rare to find. Vlad was an odd case, being Halfa-adjacent but not a true Halfa since it took 20 years for his powers to grow to what they were when it was normal for quick power growth like Danny. Not only does one need to die with a bunch of ectoplasm nearby, but they must have a few other requirements. Such as a bond with the supernatural, strong magic, etc. No mortal being without very strong and innate abilities would survive a full Halfa creation. So she'd always been curious as to how Danny survived when even heroes who'd been exposed to death would not near chance of being a Halfa.
Being a demi-god made it a lot easier. Even then, not all demi-gods would survive either, seeing as it would be rare for them to be within range of the ectoplasm needed to balance their god-like blood. Danny was an incredibly special case. Pandora had found out that Danny wasn't just a demi-god, but the human who was his parent was an incredibly strong magic user. So much so, that he'd tricked and tried his way through many many years of his life. Honestly, Pandora was amazed the human was alive.
Telling Danny of his father was not in her plan, though she did tell him of his demi-god blood. She also told him, that it may be safer with heroes.
So with a little time to heal, not really he was still bandaged up but at least he wasn't about to fall apart, Danny got Wulf and Cujo, the former opening a portal with a sad goodbye for the time being. (Really, Wulf would always know where Danny was.) Either way, Danny had planned to find this John Constantine, since seeing as he'd somehow avoided death all while dimension hoping, he was probably a good bet. Or at the very least could help him find a hero to help.
Falling through the portal with Cujo, he hadn't expected a giant room in what he could only guess was a secret base. There was a hero, he really should have looked up heroes, but most of his childhood hadn't really given him access to anything outside of his hometown, which was staring in shock at him.
And Flash meets Danny.
And instantly wants to adopt the kid. Sorry, Bruce! This one is his kid actually! But when he hears the boy's reason for being there, the poor kid looking utterly terrified and apologetic for barging in and trying to explain how Constantine's contact info had led him here, Barry is just crushed. He's keeping the kid entertained, panicking, and trying to contact John.
Wally ends up meeting him while they're waiting, and it instantly taking this kid as his own new brother. If his boyfriend gets a bunch of younger siblings so does he!
Either way, both speedsters are already filing adoption papers, not really as much as Barry wants to because he knows better than to take in an unknown even with how horrifying this child's accidental slips of his home-life was like.
So we have an MIA John, not like that's rare-, an unknown child who they really need to test DNA for but don't want to scare him, speedsters already mentally said kid's parent, and a whole lot of chaos. Danny had no IDEA that Constantine is his bio dad, Clockwork had Pandora hint him this way for a reason though...he got a dad one way or another and in some universes, he had 2. So. No loss situation to the Ancient.
They are not ready for this traumatized ass kid because he doesn't even realize he'd traumatized. Wait till he has a panic attack though, Danny, despite his apparent obliviousness to how fucked up he should be, will finally seem like the hurt kid he is.
And oh boy, wait till someone accidentally jostles a wound during that whole first meeting since Danny's hiding his wounds. Now that's a whole other bag of worms to open, like how'd he get them????

Wednesday Fanfic Concept - The Nevermore Affair
Summary:
When Wednesday Addams was forced to attend Nevermore Academy she was confident about two things.
1: She would be escaping in short order. 2: She would in no way follow her mothers matrimonial footsteps.
Which begs the question of how she managed to find herself engaged twice over within the first twenty four hours!?
Worse still, it is to the two most vexing people at Nevermore, Enid Sinclair and Bianca Barclay.
Concept:
Nevermore is quite literally a magical place.
One suffused with the power of oath and ritual, so much so that it requires a specialized rulebook to make sure you don't accidentally invoke a binding spell on accident.
Nevermore's Guide to the Magical and Mundane. This was a guidebook that Wednesday did not read because she had no intention of staying.
This becomes a problem on the first night when her argument with Enid is not interrupted and spills over into an actual fight after Wednesday ignored Enid's physical "Back off" warning.
This is a fight Wednesday loses due to not knowing Enid knew martial arts, underestimating her Lycan strength and generally assuming Enid posed no real threat and would become afraid the moment she gave her a slight scare.
Instead said fight ended with Enid's fangs buried in her neck, fangs Enid normally doesn't have access to.
Enid freaks out, apologies and flees while Wednesday is left annoyed, confused, a touch disappointed in several ways but dismissed it as "I miscalculated, won't happen again."
Long story short, the pose Enid adopted was actually a Lycan custom, saying "If you step forward to battle, you place your life in my hands"
So when she wins & doesn't kill Wednesday… Yeah you get it.
The very next morning, Wednesday arrives at fencing all kitted up in her suit from home, mask on her face and neck markings covered.
As is custom she picks a fight with Bianca and after a win, a loss with the final round being a tie breaker, she demands either military rules or something with similar principles much to the tittering of the crowed.
Wednesday herself ignores it, simply having defaulted to something she knows will make the fight more dangerous cos her parents always did it and she is excited but also wants to know Bianca off balance.
Duel of Dominion perhaps? Duel of Blood perhaps? Not sure.
Bianca, is incredibly vexed and not a little bit scared. Interpreting this as Wednesday trying to either 'claim' her or intimidate her into surrendering, but she is not about to back down.
Enid's efforts to subtly intervene are ignored by all and while normally the coach would intervene. Due to a mix of Wednesday's background and the fact Bianca can just refuse he doesn't.
They duel, Bianca wins.
"I suppose I will get to see you in white," She intones, before licking Wednesday's blood off the blade and sealing the pact.
"Its barely a scratch" Wednesday dismissed, taking off her helmet and revealing Enid's mark.
Much to the crowds surprise; the act itself may even have been encouraged by Enid.
Xavier starts losing his shit and is sent away.
It is worth noting that the binding can be broken, but that is an expensive and drawn out process and requires the victors permission.
Bianca intended to just hold onto it to keep Wednesday until she could extract a major debt from the Addams for breaking it.
Enid has no idea if the bond can be broken or even happened given her own issues, but was hoping to find a solution in secret.
Wednesday is sent to the nurses office for the cut but also to ensure she is physically well and also not been siren songed or anything else. This is also where she finds out about... All this and reacts as you'd expect.
Meanwhile, Coach Vlad drags Enid & Bianca to Weems to explain how Wednesday somehow got herself engaged by ancient rights of Lycan culture and Nevermore dueling culture within 24 hours!
Fun fact, but because both of these happened and in such quick succession, breaking the bindings will be much harder than normal.
Weems: I have the sneaking suspicion this is going to be about Miss Addams somehow. Enid (Trying to ease the tension) Well its Misses Addams now isn't it? Bianca (Exhausted with this) If you think I'm taking her name you're insane. Weems:... I trust... I pray that you two are merely telling a poor joke. Vlad: No Madame, I am afraid not.
Somewhere in Nevermore a scream of outrage echoed through the stone halls.
Notes:
This is very much a "Crack taken seriously" style story. It begins as a comedy of errors and becomes much more messy and complicated as the three have to navigate the bonds, trying to break them, live with them, other people's perceptions of them and so on. Let alone the murder mystery.

thinking. I think it rather funny if Vlad is why Jack and Maddie stay together (to protect their kid-other wise they would just bickering all day-maddie secretly have grudge over Jack). But when Danny Finally get rid of Vlad (Vlad decided that it just not worth it anymore and move on) Jack and Maddie relationship Fall out imediately followed Danny reveal that he is Half death due to accidently pressing the switch in side the portal . ( like litterally nothing to distract them or any reason why they should stay together again) Maddie : the Switch inside the Portal ? we don't ... Check the Blue Print. D:< JACCKKK!!!!

Ya'll wanna know what I love? COMPLICATED RELATIONSHIPS!
That Danny and Jazz have a very close relationship due to their parent's neglect. Jazz is pretty much the true parental figure in Danny's life and for the most part, always has been. Jazz's nagging and constant involvement in pretty much all aspects of Danny's life increases after his accident, which Danny doesn't really seem to notice cause he's got too much shit on his plate after waking up half dead. (But also cause Jazz has always been nearby and reliable - which does wonders to soothe his Obsession, so he honestly doesn't take much notice of her mother-henning).
BUT, this does end up influencing his relationship with Dani.
Even though she's the only surviving clone, she's still extremely unstable and could pretty much dissolve into goo at any moment without warning. This makes Danny's Obsession freak out and go on high alert any time he's near her. Not to mention that Dani - despite being technically the same age - is viewed as being much younger by Danny (and pretty much everyone else as well) due to how inexperienced she is and the fact that she is literally only a couple weeks/months/years old.
So all this stress about Dani's messed-up situation and the fact that there is literally nothing Danny can do to fix it (since she wasn't really meant to exist in the first place), combined with the way Jazz treats Danny, kinda skews his perception of what a sibling relationship is actually meant to look like. Tucker and Sam don't have siblings and no one else in Amity is willing to even go near the Fenton kids without so much as a ten-meter pole, let alone comment on the obvious lack of parenting going on in that family.
So, from any outside perspective, Danny's relationship with Dani is bordering on being parental/paternal. Which freaks Danny the fuck out when he finally realises why Dani gets so cranky and snappish about his overbearing tendencies (she's never experienced any form of parental affection in her very short life). Sam and Tucker never bothered mentioning anything cause they know it's probably just Danny satisfying his ghostly urges, and they also know that both Danny and Jazz have always lacked personal boundaries - that and the fact that honestly, nothing about their family is even close to being normal, including the way each member treats one another. Not to mention, when you're dealing with the kind of spooky shit they deal with on a daily basis, it's better to be in each other's pockets than too far away when something goes wrong.
But then one of them accidentally lets slip that Danny's attitude towards Dani is very much abnormal and Danny feels like he's been dunked in cold water. Cause Dani was made using Danny's own DNA, and there aren't any hard or fast rules on how you should view your totally impossible clone.
Danny's been struggling with controlling his Obsession after the crushing realisation that he had one - just one more thing that chipped away at his already contestable humanity. He knows he's overprotective and he knows that Sam, Tucker and Jazz don't mention how smothered they sometimes feel. And then he realises he's been doing it to Dani without even realising it, and once the realisation hits he's faced with a second realisation - which is that his Obsession doesn't know how to properly categorise Dani. Cause he has absolutely no desire to display any kind of fatherly affection towards her, let alone view her as a potential daughter figure (also wouldn't that make Vlad the other parent? That thought alone makes his stomach churn).
It's an embarrassing, humiliating tension he's felt since the day he met her. A twisted thing he sometimes thinks about in the dark of his room when he's trying to fall asleep. It feels guilty and shameful and something that's too close to grief. He's never even mentioned it to Tucker or Sam, and as soon as the thought pops up he dismisses it and keeps his mouth shut. He hasn't even finished school yet.
Danny doesn't want to think about his future. He doesn't even want to entertain the idea of him one day having a family of his own. But Dani never fails to make him think about it (all the things he could no longer have).
Danny's feelings towards Dani will always be familial. When they'd first met and found out what their connection was he had subconsciously drawn that line in the sand and then shoved it into a box before abandoning it in some distant corner of his mind.
Maybe, just maybe, if Danny was older he would have viewed her as a daughter.
But he won't. He's already too close to her. One day she's going to dissolve and Danny will be left inconsolable. The small still-human part of him realises that - even if the ghost in him refuses to acknowledge it.
Sometimes he feels like his Obsession has already taken away so many of his choices. Limiting his decisions and swaying his judgement. He's not entirely sure where it begins and where it ends and it makes him wonder, just how much of a different person would he be without it? Would he even be the same at all?
The moment all these realisations bloomed in his head was the day he fought with himself and convinced himself to take a step back.
So, he watches Dani from afar.
She seems happier now that she has more freedom to do what she wants without anyone looming over her shoulder. She doesn't understand how he feels - she doesn't have an Obsession. She lives her life flitting from one whim to the next.
But now she visits more, no longer staying away from Amity for as long as she can without risking Phantom coming after her.
He hadn't realised she was staying away.
Now Dani is the one who seeks him out. She wants to spend lazy days floating above the clouds basking in the sunlight. She pesters him to try every item on the Nasty Burger menu and begs him to ditch his homework to go watch a midnight screening of some tacky old horror movie from the 80s. She even convinces him to teach her the names of all the constellations as they recline on a grassy patch behind the Amity observatory (even if there wasn't much convincing involved at all).
He indulges each and every one of her childish desires. Because every time he turns his head to tell her no, all he can see are bright blue eyes dripping into a toxic green puddle. It never fails to make him bite his tongue and nod his head.
They continue the rest of their relationship with Danny keeping a close eye on that line in the sand.
He adores Dani - loves her even - and it's a feeling that grows the more time they spend together. She will always be special to him, and whatever that special thing is, it's something that doesn't need to be defined. She will always be someone important - someone who he loves the same way he loves Jazz (he makes sure of it).
-------- BUT THERE'S MORE
Not only does this anxiety-inducing realisation change the way he interacts with Dani (he no longer actively seeks her out all the time) but it also opens his eyes to the role Jazz has played in his life.
He realises that all the jokes and complaints about Jazz acting more like his mum rather than his sister aren't far from the truth. He slowly comes to terms with the fact that Jazz had a heavy hand in raising him and still continues to watch over him. It changes the way he treats her and it leaves him with a lot of guilt.
Somewhere down the line Jazz ends up realising that Danny now understands that part of their relationship, the part that Jazz had tried to hide from him - something she did to cast her parents in a better light so that Danny could have some semblance of a normal, happy family while having to grow up being a Fenton.
It hits her while her parents are still tinkering in their basement and Danny's just slipped out the window in the middle of the night to go fight a ghost. He'd seen the light under her door and let her know that he was heading out - something he'd only started doing recently. He'd stood awkwardly in the doorway and wished her goodnight before slipping intangible and disappearing from sight.
It made her realise - like switching on a lightbulb.
She'd buried herself under the covers and gone to sleep that night with swollen eyes and her library-loaned textbook dotted with salty tears.
Danny didn't comment on her puffy face the next morning and she didn't question the bruise that was blooming on the back of his neck - just handed him an ice pack and continued scrambling the eggs.
Neither of them talks about it.
~~~~
Just Danny having a complicated, anxious relationship with his clone - who has zero idea what her pseudo brother is actually feeling.
If yall haven't realised, I'm a sucker for complicated relationships
And if I'm being honest, the way Dani and Danny are depicted as twins/cousins and the two of them just readily going along with it has always been a little boring and one-note for me. I feel like having a clone - especially one that you feel a little responsible for - would open up a gigantic can of worms in regard to how you treat them and how you should feel about them. Throw Danny's ghostly Obsession into the mix you have a perfectly complicated situation.
(also I actually quite like the trans!danny headcanon - especially in regards to explaining how Dani turned out female. But in regards to this ^^^^^^^ I kinda like having Danny being cis cause it implies that Vald not only stole Danny's DNA but also mixed it with someone else's. Cause genetically speaking, it would be physically impossible for them to be clones if one has an entirely different chromosome. Which just adds another whole level of fcked up to this whole mess and just Vlad in general. Cause Danny - or at the very least, Jazz - is definitely aware that Danny's "clone" shouldn't be female and somebody realises this but can't bring themselves to speak up. Cause god forbid all of them are too young for this and too traumatised and would rather just brush that little tidbit to the side and under the rug, just so they can all move on)
(also it would leave Danny wondering who makes up the other 50% of Dani's DNA and honestly Vlad is so messed up that he could have just found a way and used his own and that would make Dani the closest thing to Dan and I don't think Danny would ever be able to face that)
Phandom Holiday Truce Time!
(For maximum experience, please turn the light mode on.)
Tumblr media
Sorry for keeping you waiting, @raaorqtpbpdy here's your @phandomholidaytruce gift!
When I saw the prompts "Danny-Wes Role Swap", comboed with the No One Knows AU, Creepy Cryptid Danny and your mention about the Ghost King Danny trope only used in a significant way, the gif "I have a MIGHTY need!" started playing in a loop, so here's the bg for this mini-comic.
Before the Portal Accident, Wes and Danny were friends. Not as close as Danny and Tucker, but they sometimes hung out when the Fentons were too busy to entertain Wes' interest in the occult.
My boy Wes Weston has also a side hobby/obsession with basket and it all started since he watched for the first time Space Jam. (It doesn't help that I headcanon Amity Park in Illinois, which means Chicago Bulls.)
(So he plays basket because His Airness does so and because MJ was involved and interacted with the embodiment of a visual novel. Talk about supernatural!)
(Yes, I'm saying that crossovers between animated and physical world can count as a supernatural and ghost-related event.)
All of this premise was to introduce the personalized jumpsuit that the Fentons made for Wes with the colors and accessories of the Chicago Bulls.
(Jack made a mistake with the number and stitched only the "2", so once Wes became a halfa, he added the "3" with marker and later learned to shapeshift enough to change some of the inverted colors of the jumpsuit. Originally it was white with red inserts, the accident made it black with blue inserts, then the shapeshift finally made it black with red inserts.)
Since it's a No One Knows AU, Wes was alone when the accident happened, but being the smart bean he is, no one discovered that he's a halfa until Danny, much like Jazz in canon, discovers Wes' double nature after stalking investigating him.
Like sister, like brother, Danny doesn't say anything to Wes about knowing, but here and then he assists (in the shadows) Wes in ghost wrangling.
Due to living above the active portal and Maddie experimenting with ectoplasm while pregnant, Jazz and Danny are liminal, the latter more than the former. (Thus, Danny becomes the creepy cryptid of Amity Park.)
Even if Danny isn't a halfa, Vlad still tries his scheme of stealing the Crown of Fire and the Ring of Rage to obtain enough power to defeat Wes' hero persona (who Vlad believes is a full ghost).
Much akin the Reign Storm episode, Amity ends in the Ghost Zone, but Wes gets stuck fighting "alone" the army (the Fentons and a reluctant Plasmius do the same on another front after the Ecto-suit is deemed a failure).
While his parents are out fighting, Danny sneaks in the lab and fixes the Ecto-suit (my boy is as much as a genius as his family, after all), then goes to challenge Pariah.
Due to his liminality, after the victory, Danny IS eligible for the Throne, so he becomes the King. (He doesn't discover this immediately, but when the Observants start bothering him, he gets the explanation.)
So, after declaring Amity Park Wes' (and his) Haunt and a No Fight Zone, the ghost attacks practically stop, leaving Wes on edge, because he doesn't know about the Law.
Thus, we're back to this mini-comic! Danny decides to finally reveal both that he knows Wes is a halfa and that he's the Ghost King, but where would be the fun if he didn't mess with Wes a bit? So he amps his creepy factor and plays a Yandere act (he isn't, he's doing so just for the prank. As a matter of fact, 3-5 seconds after the last declaration, he bursts out cackling at Wes appropriate horrified face, then after moving to a more private place -a roof-, Danny explains everything.)
Does this became a UFS? I like to think so, but you're free to decide.
I'm adding the non transparent versions under for those without the light mode:
aaaaaa fk it, Jason’s sort of a halfa after his swim in the Lazarus pit (corrupted ectoplasm and all that jazz) + newly crowned Danny (maybe like 3 years into Red Hood’s debut) can “sense” other halfas in the world.
Danny, not wanting be feel alone anymore (Dani’s… more “dead” than being a halfa and Vlad doesn’t count, fk him) makes it his personal mission to meet and befriend the other halfa. Of course, it’s hard because how do you find another halfa if you don’t know how they look like and where they live.
Let’s just say that because ectoplasm is involved, Danny assumes that it’s probably an ectobiologist (or someone in the ghost hunting field, because he was technically made in a lab and only ectobiologist or the GIW has access to ectoplasm). He starts researching on ectobiologist and their families, looking to see if any of them had gotten into an accident, and hacking the GIW database for any human to ghost/halfa experiments (and thankfully, there was none BUT he was ready to throw hands at them).
As to why other ghosts don’t invade or Gotham or the LOA is purely due to the lack of CLEAN ectoplasm in the air, and it’s not like they can feel when a new ghost/halfa is born/made/died???
Cue, Danny moving to Gotham with Jazz because she landed a job at Arkham as a psychologist. Why Gotham? It was the only place that would accept Jazz because not many places would accept someone from what the world deemed a “whack job town filled with crazies”. Also, her resume was flawless.
So one night, Danny was woken up by his core feeling a little bit funny and decided to sit by the fire escape that’s right outside his room. Danny’s ghost senses go off and he was ready to interact (or fight) the nearby ghost but was slightly confused when he didn’t see a ghost but instead, Red Hood pulling up near a dumpster for a smoke. (No helmet but Jason was wearing his “uniform” + domino mask)
Danny stood up and the noise attracted Jason’s attention. Time seemed to slow down as they made eye contact and Danny could feel his core buzzing. Both their eyes flashed green and it was so bright that it showed through Jason’s mask.
Danny jumped down from the fire escape and Jason whipped out his gun.
Jason was internally packing because
A man just jumped down from a high level and seemed fine.
The pit seemed to recognise said man but it didn’t make Jason want to kill/hurt him.
THE PIT RECOGNISED THE MAN AS SOMEONE NOT TO BE FUCKED WITH (ghost king things yk)
Danny, on the other hand, was excited? relieved? concerned??
He found the second halfa
He’s not alone anymore
Why does Red Hood’s core feel kinda funny
After what seemed like hours, Danny tackled Jason into a hug, lifted him and spun him around (because why not and i think it’s cute). Jason’s panic turned to confusion real quick because how did a lean skinny 175cm stranger carry his hulking 187cm self??
Danny finally put Jason down and Jason bombarded him with questions (who are you? what the fuck are you doing?).
Danny explained to Jason that he had been looking for Jason and that set of alarms in Jason’s head. The gun now pointed to Danny’s head and Danny started to ramble about why he was looking for Jason.
(Oh my god, I just realised that sounded super fucking weird. I’m a halfa, you’re a halfa and I’ve been looking for you--- not specifically you because I had no idea who you were but like yeah. So…pleasedon’tkillmeRedHood,sir??????
“what’s a halfa?”
“oh uh.. it’s half a ghost half a human because we died but it didn’t stick? we got better… but i’m not sure why but you came back wrong?? Not that there’s anything wrong with you but like you just feel off?? It’s like your core’s kinda wonky. It can be fixed though! Frostbite — he’s a ghost yeti!— kinda taught me how to fix mine when it got all weird and stuff. Do you want me to fix yours?”
“what’s a core?”
“You don’t kno— okay, that kinda makes sense because this place LACKS ectoplasm and ghosts would usually stay away from this place … or maybe it’s cause Lady Goth— wait, no let me just get back to the whole core thing. A core is basically the ‘heart’ and the ‘brain’ of a ghost.”)
and Danny goes on to further explain what a core it. Jason’s already accepting it at this point because his life’s already hectic (the things you see as an anti-hero… nothing phases him anymore). Jason accepts Danny’s offer to fix his core and Danny brings Jason up to his room cause it’s gonna take quite a while and he just wants to spend time with Jason.
Back in Danny’s room, Danny asks Jason to transform which makes Jason go ???? transform???????. Danny shows Jason what he meant by transforming but Jason still doesn’t get how to do it. So, Danny takes Jason’s hand and helps him transform into his ghost form. (Jason’s ghost form is his 15 year old self and his tattered Robin uniform)
It hurt a lot at first. Jason felt like he was dying again but Danny noticed his discomfort and took the pain away (perks of being ghost king ig). When Jason first saw his ghost form, he went into a panic attack (I mean… He literally looks like the day he died and he had to re experience his death again)
Danny, not being so smart, decided that it was the perfect time to shove his hand in Jason’s chest and pull out the contaminated ectoplasm and replacing it with his own ectoplasm. Again, was it painful? very! and Jason ended up passing out. With Jason knocked out, it was easier to work with the core and get it fully fixed.
Jason woke up feeling like shit but also calm. It was traumatising to see his tattered suit and relive his death again, but he felt significantly better. He didn’t wake up feeling angry (okay, a little bit but you can’t really blame him for it). Since the pit rage wasn’t there anymore, Jason didn’t really feel like getting rid of Danny’s half human side and turning him into a hashtag.
Danny explaining to Jason about what he just did and asked him how he was feeling. They went into a big discussion about what it means now that Jason’s core is fixed and yeah! They bother hugged it out and just ended up talking for the remainder of the night.
Jason finally feeling better and calm. Danny happy that he’s not alone and is able to help Jason deal with his ghost form.
Aftermath of it all: JAZZ
Jazz woke up to Danny Phantom and a Ghost Robin
Does she freak out? yeap.
I mean, Danny’s ghost form is his 14 year old self AND Jason’s ghost form … is kinda bloody?? and it’s 15 year old Jason
Jazz just like “yk what? this is Danny this is normal.” and proceeds to make breakfasts for all 3 of them
BATFAMILY
Confused? Worried? CONCERNED
Jason doesn’t seem so angry anymore which is weird
His eyes are blue again?????? SINCE WHEN!!
The first time Bruce pisses Jason off? He transform into his ghost form and appears in front of Bruce.
Bruce went into a full blown panic attack
Jason feels bad and swears not to do it again.
This of course led to Jason having to explain how he could do that
Bruce stalks the Fentons and adopts Danny and Jazz
I guess, I'm too obsessed with Ghost King AU and cold-blooded Danny, so, I'd like to share some ideas of this theme with you:
• We can't say for sure what made ghosts change their minds and team up with Danny in the end of ep. "Reign Storm". Idk, is it a part of AU or just hc but I prefer thinking Vlad convinced them and his deal with Fright Knight meant FK helps them in Final Battle and Vlad helps him to get rid of the pumpkin curse.
• Danny was so terrified of his possibly death in the battle with Pariah, so, he accidentally eliminate his soul. I mean, that costume was real powerful thing and thanks to adrenaline Danny aimed to the core.
• Vlad was chosen by Observers to tutor young king for his new role. In 21 year Danny will be crowned.
• Now, Pompous pep! Vlad and Danny were still arguing first but soon became really close. Tucker was jealousy even before Danny realised his feelings to Vlad.
• Vlad could finally forgive Jack due to his friendship with Daniel, and Danny found a cozy shelter with hot chocolate on Christmas (I don't think grinch ghost accident cancel Jack and Maddie Christmas argue tradition)
• All 7 years Vlad was making nourishing lunch for Danny. Thx to that Dan grow up a handsome, strong and high man UwU (Sorry, Sam, your light salads can't do that)
• Danny announced the engagement of him and Vlad on the coronation. Yeah, for the entire Ghost Zone
(Jack knew all the time. Jack shippered them from the very beginning; so poor he wasn't invited)
• On the wedding there were flying platforms as dance floor. And wedding rings where you must drop your ectoplasm in your partner's ring. With these rings lovers can feel each other whereever they are.
• Sam must be sad but I'm happy for Vlad. He's such a perfect wife.
• Phantom the King will start the new era of peace between 2 worlds
("Well, maybe not all. But I certainly will," Vlad said.)
Profiles in Villainy
Vlad Plasmus
Vladimir Masters is the founder and chief executive officer of the lucrative conglomerate, VladCo.  Early in his career as an experimental industrialist, Masters worked alongside Jack and Maddie Fenton in their efforts to breach the Ghost Zone.  An accident resulted in Masters becoming a human/ghost hybrid... the first of his kind possessing both a human form as well as the capacity to transform into a ghostly phantom equipped with a vast array of super powers.
Keeping his transformation a secret, Masters created the alternate persona of ‘Vlad Plasmus,’ a super villain who worked to accrue him huge wealth and success.   As such, Masters was able to make his company an enormous success, annexing all competitors.  This success notwithstanding, Masters felt saddened and embittered.  He was desperately in love with Maddie Fenton and was heartbroken that she married Jack over him.  Since then, Masters has plotted various schemes of somehow winning Maddie’s heart and getting her to leave Jack and become his wife.  His only solace had been his beloved cat whom he had also named ‘Maddie’ (weirdo...).
Years later, Jack and Maddie’s son, Danny would himself become a human/ghost hybrid.  The youngster would go on to become the super hero known as Danny Phantom; and Vlad Plasmas would quickly become the hero’s arch nemesis.
Tumblr media
It would not be long before each came to discover the other’s secret identities and both have attempted to use this information as leverage, ultimately leading to a tentative truce.  Although this has not stopped Plasmus from further capers, including an attempt to obtain the fabled ‘Ghost Key’ as well as an effort to release the ‘Ghost King’ (both ventures that Danny Phantom ultimately foiled).
Following further adventures, including parallel realities and Masters becoming the Mayor of Amity Park, Vlad Plasmus and Danny Phantom would have one final confrontation.   A meteor was threatening to destroy planet earth.  Masters revealed himself to the world as Vlad Plasmus, declaring himself as the only one capable of saving the Earth and agreeing to do so in exchange for an exorbitant sum of money.
Yet it turned out this asteroid was composed of an anti-ghost element called Ecto-ranium, making it so all ghosts, including him, could not touch it.  Hence Plasmus would not be able to make it intangible.
Unable to save the planet and return home, due to the fact that he would be forever hunted now that he had revealed his secret identity and threatened the whole world, Plasmus begged Danny to let him aboard the Fenton Rocket and be a part of the mission to save the earth.  Danny refused and abandoned Plasmus in space, dooming him to eternally roaming the cosmos alone.
Not having the desire to see the planet's destruction, Plasmus did not interfere and watched on as Danny and The Fenton family saved the world.  He gazed down on the blue planet one last time and came to terms with his eternal solitude as a free-roaming space nomad.
Actor Martin Mull provided the voice for Vlad Plasmus.  The villain first appeared in the seventh episode of the first season of Danny Phantom, airing on May 7th, 2004.
J.O.Y. (Just One Yesterday);
@princessfanonanona's prompt: Due to things going Oh So Wrong, someone ends up in the past in their far younger body @currentlylurking’s prompt: “Even if I could change it,” Clockwork lied, “I wouldn’t.”
Summary: In another attempt to gain everything he lost back in college, Vlad tries to steal Clockwork’s staff, unknowing of the lesson the Master of Time already had planned for him.
Warnings: N/A
Words: 3,729
Vlad has made a lot of bad decisions in the last couple of years but going after Clockwork’s staff, he has to admit, is by far the most ridiculous and most ill-planned thing he has ever done. He should have known that the Master of Time, of all people, would be expecting him to show up and do exactly what he did. The ghost is practically a god— who is Vlad to think he could outsmart a seemingly omnipresent being? Now he must pay the consequences of his actions and solve the new predicament he’s gotten himself tangled in.
Vlad curses himself as he lays flat on his back in a wide-open field, watching lazy white clouds drift overhead. The sun beats down warmly, starkly contrasting the cold confusion within him. He doesn’t know where he is or when he is. But he does know that he is still himself. Although, he does feel different. The aching in his bones— which he never noticed until now— no longer tugs at him, reminding him of his age and there is no longer a constant needle-like sensation poking him repeatedly in the face. He exhales, not wanting to move and discover where or when he’s exactly ended up. But the longer he sits there thinking, the more restless he becomes.
Finally, he sits up and brushes the grass off his sweatshirt— wait, sweatshirt? He glances down to see his old and one-size-too-large Madison-Wisconsin University Department of Biology jumper covering almost the whole of his lanky figure with a pair of faded jeans, and beat-up sneakers. Beside him is his backpack filled with textbooks and class notes. He knits his brows together and snaps his attention up to take in his surroundings. The campus looks… different. Not in a bad way, no. But the buildings have that vibrant, untouched look of newness about them— as if this were its glory days.
At realizing something awful and incredible all at once, Vlad huffs and runs a hand over his hair to smooth it out. However, he finds it shorter, greasier, and darker all at once. With his other hand, he somehow touches a lump in his pocket. Curious, he pulls a crumpled piece of paper from his pocket— the campus newspaper, dated 1983. The same year he, Maddie, and Jack were sophomores in college.  If he had been his older self, Vlad is sure he would have died completely right then and there.
The edges of his vision blur with the panic that clenches his stomach. It’s one thing to mess with powerful artifacts, but it’s entirely another to find yourself thrown decades into the past, back into your younger body. He remembers this time, a period filled with ambitions and accidents waiting to happen. Accidents he has come here, or rather been sent back, to prevent.
If he can.
“Even if I could change it,” Clockwork had lied, “I wouldn’t. But since you think you can, I’ll let you try.”
That sentence echoes in his mind as he stands and starts walking toward the familiar yet foreign buildings. Vlad needs to find Maddie and Jack, though part of him dreads what he might set in motion by even speaking to them. Their friendship had been tight and unbreakable before everything fell apart.
He spots them easily enough outside the science building. Jack’s loud laughter booms across the quad, and Maddie’s brilliant smile lights up her face as she rolls her eyes at whatever Jack is saying. They both look so young and er… well, spunky, full of life, and unaware of the shadows that will fall over their future. Vlad’s heart clenches. He had come here to prevent his own grim future, but now, standing just feet away from his past, he feels paralyzed.
Should he approach them and warn them of what’s to come? But how would he explain his knowledge? Would they even believe him? And what about the ramifications? Vlad’s understanding of time travel is limited, but he knows enough about chaos theory to understand that even small changes can ripple outward with unforeseen consequences.
Vlad takes a deep breath, his mind racing through countless scenarios, none of which end particularly well. The memory of Clockwork’s smirking face haunts him; the Master of Time knew the turmoil this decision would cause. But despite the whirlwind of uncertainty, he steps forward, his decision firming with each stride.
“Hey, Maddie! Jack!” Vlad calls out, his voice cracking slightly with a nervousness he hasn't felt in decades.
Maddie turns, her brow furrowing in confusion before her face breaks into a wide grin, “Vlad, there you are! We were just talking about that biochem test. Coming to study with us later?”
“You missed my epic explanation of covalent bonds.” Jack claps him on the back, nearly knocking the breath out of him, “Probably for the best. Maddie almost fell asleep standing.”
Vlad laughs, a genuine chuckle that surprises even him, given the weight of his mission and the surrealism of the situation. He nods, falling into step beside them as they begin to walk toward the library. This camaraderie, this ease among friends—it’s almost enough to make him forget why he’s here. Almost.
As they enter the library, the smell of old books and the soft shuffling of papers bring a wave of nostalgia so strong that Vlad has to pause to steady himself. Maddie turns to look at him, her expression a mix of concern and curiosity.
“Everything alright?” She asks, tilting her head and allowing her auburn curls to frame her face. The genuine worry in her eyes tugs at Vlad’s heart. She still cares, just as she always did, before everything changed.
“Yeah, just... overwhelmed by the test, I guess,” Vlad lies smoothly, pushing down the urge to spill everything about his bitter future. But he hesitates, the warning from Clockwork echoing in his ears.
“Everything you change will have an impact on the future,” The Master of Time had said, “What you think may be a good thing can be negative and what you think may be negative can be a positive. Change is dangerous in the hands of the unprepared.”
As they settle into a corner of the library with their textbooks spread out, Vlad watches his friends closely. Jack’s loud guffaws and Maddie’s quiet concentration form a picture of a past Vlad had almost forgotten. They are so young, so untouched by the trials that will shape their futures.
The study session drags on, but Vlad is only partially focused on the biochemical pathways and molecular structures. His mind races with plans and possibilities. How can he subtly influence events to avoid their darkest outcomes without tearing apart the fabric of time? Is there a way to guide his friends away from future pain without revealing the desperate truth of his journey?
Eventually, Jack packs up his books, stretching. “Okay, that’s enough brain-burning for today. You guys up for grabbing some pizza?” He suggests, the same old spark of spontaneity in his eyes that Vlad remembers so fondly.
Maddie agrees, already gathering her things, but Vlad hesitates. This could be his opportunity to test the waters, to see if small, cautious interventions might start to steer their futures onto a safer path.
“Yeah, let’s go,” Vlad says finally, his mind made up, “But hey, on the way, I was thinking… maybe we could talk a bit about lab safety? I’ve been reading up on some stuff, and I think we could really benefit from being a bit more cautious, especially with the upcoming experiments.”
Jack rolls his eyes but smiles, “Leave it to Vlad to bring safety tips to a pizza night. But sure, man, lay it on us. What’s the worst that could happen with a little extra knowledge, right?”
Little do they know, Vlad thinks grimly, yet he allows himself a small smile. Maybe this is how he can make a difference— through careful nudges and shared knowledge. Perhaps, this time around, he can save more than just himself. Maybe he can change something for the better.
As they walk through the crisp evening air, Vlad keeps the conversation light but steers it towards safety protocols and recent advancements in their field that advocate for stricter measures. Jack jokes about Vlad’s ‘sudden’ obsession with safety, but Maddie listens intently, nodding and chiming in with her thoughts. This is the balance Vlad has always admired in his friends: Jack’s levity and Maddie’s serious, thoughtful nature.
Arriving at the pizza place, they choose a booth near the back, away from the bustle. As they wait for their order, Vlad takes a deep breath and broaches a topic he’s been pondering.
“You know, there are a lot of things in the lab that can go wrong if you’re not careful. I was reading about some accidents that happened elsewhere. Real nasty stuff,” Vlad says, trying to sound casual but earnest, “It got me thinking about how we handle our experiments.”
Maddie's brow furrows, “You’re right. Maybe we should review our protocols. It wouldn’t hurt to propose some updates to the safety guidelines.”
Jack nods, surprisingly contemplative, “I guess a little extra caution wouldn’t kill us. Better safe than sorry, right?”
Vlad knits his brows together. When had Jack actually considered something? Then he nods, appreciating the seriousness in his friend’s tone, something he did not expect from the man sitting across from him.
As they dig into their pizza, the conversation shifts from lab safety to other college gossip, but Vlad's mind doesn't stray far from his purpose. Every joke, every shared look, every moment feels charged with potential, with the weight of what might or might not come to pass. It’s almost too much, but Vlad holds on to the thread of hope that these small interventions might be enough.
Maddie’s voice cuts through his reverie, pulling him back to the present, “You’ve been really into this safety thing tonight, Vlad. Something you want to tell us?”
Her perceptive gaze locks onto his, and Vlad’s heart skips. He’s walked this line all evening— how much to say, how much to keep hidden. In the back of his mind, Clockwork’s words echo ominously.
Vlad shakes his head, forcing a laugh. “Just thinking ahead,” He says, “You know me, always planning for the worst.”
Jack laughs, slapping the table lightly, “Dude, you need to relax. College is for living a little dangerously.”
Vlad smiles, but the irony isn’t lost on him.
Living dangerously is exactly what he’s trying to mitigate, at least when it comes to certain pivotal events he knows are on the horizon. Yet, Jack’s statement tugs at a thread in Vlad’s mind, stirring a different thought. Perhaps the approach isn’t just about instilling caution but also about embracing the full spectrum of their college experience— balance, in all things, might just be the key.
As the night winds down and they step out of the pizza place, the cool night air feels refreshing. The campus is quiet, the usual buzz of student life subdued by the lateness of the hour. They walk back to their dorms together, and Vlad finds himself glancing over at Maddie and Jack, feeling an old affection mixed with a newfound protectiveness.
“Hey,” Vlad starts, his tone more serious now that they're alone under the starlit sky, “I know I’ve been a bit intense today with the whole safety spiel. But... thanks for hearing me out.”
Maddie smiles, her eyes soft in the dim light. “Of course, Vlad. You’re looking out for us. We appreciate it, even if we tease.”
Jack nods, a more thoughtful expression crossing his face than Vlad is used to seeing, “Yeah, man. Better to watch out for each other, right? What are friends for?”
Those words, simple yet sincere, hit Vlad harder than expected. He nods, feeling a tightness in his throat.
“And hey,” Maddie begins with a soft smile, “If there’s ever anything that bothers one of all of us, we all want to know about it.”
Jack nods in agreement.
Vlad feels a wave of relief mixed with an indescribable warmth. This a bond he hadn’t fully appreciated back in his original timeline, clouded as it was by ambitions and rivalries.
“Thanks,” Vlad says, his voice husky with emotion, “That means a lot.”
They reach the dorms, and as Maddie and Jack head to their respective doors, Vlad pauses, watching them disappear into the buildings. The night is still, the only sounds are the distant calls of night birds and the rustle of leaves in the gentle breeze. Clockwork’s words echo in his mind again. Had the Master of Time known that this return to the past wasn't just about preventing a disaster but also about relearning what it means to truly be a friend? Had he understood that Vlad needed this second chance not just for himself but to rediscover the value of those around him?
As he walks back to his own dorm, Vlad feels a resolve settling in. He's here with a chance to do things differently, not just in the lab, but in life. He can nurture this friendship, and keep it from fracturing. Maybe, just maybe, he can keep the darker parts of their future from unfolding.
But as he lays in his bed later that night, staring at the ceiling, a lingering doubt remains. How much can he really change? And at what cost? The challenges of altering the course of time weigh heavily on him. Each interaction and each decision feels fraught with potential consequences. He wonders if he’s doing enough, or perhaps too much. The burden of knowing what could happen and trying to manipulate fate without revealing too much is immense. Every conversation with Maddie and Jack feels like a delicate dance on a tightrope.
The campus hums with the usual energy of college life. Maddie, Jack, and Vlad sit together in their favorite spot on the quad, under the sprawling branches of an old oak tree. The air is crisp with the promise of autumn, and the faint scent of fallen leaves mingles with the sounds of laughter and conversation.
As they talk and laugh, Vlad can’t shake the weight of what he knows lies ahead. Tomorrow marks the anniversary of the accident that changed everything, the event that set him on a path of bitterness and isolation. Despite his efforts to alter the course of their lives, he can’t help but feel a creeping sense of dread.
Maddie notices the tension in his shoulders and gives him a gentle nudge, concern etching lines on her brow, “Hey, you okay?”
Vlad forces a smile, pushing aside his apprehension, “Yeah, just thinking about that biochem project we have due next week.”
Jack snorts, tossing a piece of grass into the air. “Biochem, huh? You’ve been on a safety kick lately. Afraid we’ll blow something up?”
Vlad’s smile falters for a moment before he recovers.
“Just being cautious,” he replies, hoping they don’t sense the underlying truth in his words.
Maddie nods, her expression thoughtful. “You’re right. Safety is important, especially with the experiments we’re doing lately.”
Vlad nods in agreement, grateful for Maddie’s understanding. If only they knew the full extent of his concerns.
As the evening wears on, they eventually bid each other goodnight and head to their respective dorms. Vlad’s mind whirls with thoughts of tomorrow— of the accident, of the choices he’s made, of the uncertain future that hangs over them like a shadow.
Alone in his room, Vlad sits at his desk, the weight of tomorrow’s anniversary pressing down on him. He knows he should try to sleep, to rest before the day ahead, but his mind refuses to quiet.
He picks up a framed photo from his desk, a snapshot from their first year of college— Maddie’s bright smile, Jack’s goofy grin, and himself, standing between them, filled with hope and ambition. It feels like a lifetime ago, and in a way, it is.
With a heavy sigh, Vlad sets the photo back down and leans back in his chair, staring up at the ceiling. Tomorrow will be a test— a test of his resolve, his friendships, and perhaps even his very sanity.
But as the minutes tick by and the night deepens, Vlad finds himself clinging to a sliver of hope. Maybe, just maybe, he can change the course of tomorrow. Maybe he can prevent the accident, and with it, the darkness that followed.
With that thought lingering in his mind, Vlad finally closes his eyes, willing himself to sleep, knowing that tomorrow will bring challenges unlike any he’s faced before. But for now, in the quiet of his room, he allows himself to hope— for a better future, for his friends, and for himself.
The next morning arrives with a sense of impending doom that hangs heavy in the air. Vlad wakes early, his sleep fitful and restless, the weight of tomorrow’s anniversary pressing down on him like a leaden blanket. He dresses quickly, his mind already racing with plans and contingencies.
As he makes his way to meet Maddie and Jack for breakfast, Vlad’s heart beats a frantic rhythm in his chest. The campus seems quieter than usual, the usual chatter subdued by the gravity of the day ahead.
When Vlad arrives at their usual spot in the dining hall, he finds Maddie and Jack already seated at their usual table, their faces drawn with concern.
“Hey,” Vlad greets them, forcing a smile that feels more like a grimace, “You guys ready for the big biochem test today?”
Maddie’s eyes flicker with understanding, but she nods anyway, a determined set to her jaw. “As ready as we’ll ever be,” She replies, her voice steady despite the tension in the air.
Jack grunts in agreement, shoveling scrambled eggs into his mouth with more gusto than usual. “Bring it on,” He mumbles between bites, though Vlad can see the strain in the tightness of his shoulders.
As they eat, conversation is sparse, the weight of the day ahead hanging heavy between them. Vlad tries to focus on his food, to push aside the creeping sense of dread that threatens to consume him, but it’s no use. The accident looms over them like a dark cloud, casting a shadow over everything they do.
After breakfast, they make their way to their first class of the day, a biochemistry lecture that Vlad can barely concentrate on. His mind is elsewhere, consumed with thoughts of the accident, of Clockwork, of the choices he’s made and the ones he has yet to make.
As the minutes tick by, Vlad’s anxiety mounts, his palms slick with sweat as he watches the clock. With each passing moment, the weight of the day ahead grows heavier, threatening to crush him beneath its unbearable burden.
Suddenly, a ripple of distortion washes over the classroom, accompanied by a low, ominous hum. Vlad’s heart leaps into his throat as he recognizes the telltale signs of Clockwork’s presence.
With a sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach, Vlad turns his gaze toward the back of the room where a figure clad in ancient amethyst robes materializes amidst a swirl of green mist. Clockwork’s eyes, glowing with a fierce, otherworldly intensity, fix upon Vlad with an inscrutable expression.
“Vlad Masters,” Clockwork intones, their voice echoing with a weight of ages, “It is time.”
Vlad’s breath catches in his throat as he rises slowly from his seat, his mind racing with a thousand questions and fears. “What do you mean, it’s time?” He demands, his voice trembling with a mixture of dread and defiance.
Clockwork offers no immediate reply, their gaze unwavering as they glide forward, the air crackling with a palpable sense of power.
“You sought to alter the course of fate,” Clockwork says, their voice like distant thunder, “But some events are inevitable. Some destinies cannot be changed.”
Vlad feels a cold knot of realization form in the pit of his stomach as he gazes into Clockwork’s luminous eyes, understanding dawning like a bolt of lightning. He glances around, noting everyone— including Jack and Maddie— is frozen where they sit.
“You were never going to let me change my fate,” Vlad breathes, his voice barely a whisper, “Why? Why put me through this? Why let it happen?”
Clockwork’s gaze softens, a flicker of sympathy crossing his ancient features. “Because,” They say simply, “Some lessons can only be learned through hardship. Some paths must be walked alone.”
Vlad’s heart sinks as Clockwork’s words sink in. The weight of inevitability presses down on him like a physical force, crushing his hopes and dreams beneath its unyielding weight. He had thought he could rewrite the past, and change the course of his destiny, but now he realizes the futility of his efforts.
He looks around the frozen classroom, at his friends suspended in time, their faces frozen in boredom and stress. How had it come to this? How had he ended up here, trapped in a timeline he could never escape?
“I tried,” Vlad whispers, more to himself than to Clockwork, “I tried to make things right.”
Clockwork nods solemnly, their expression unreadable beneath their hooded cloak. “And for that, you have my respect, Vlad Masters. But some things are beyond your control, beyond anyone’s control.”
Vlad’s shoulders slump in defeat as he watches Clockwork approach, their form shimmering with an otherworldly glow. He knows there is no escaping fate, no changing what has already been set in motion.
As Clockwork reaches out a hand, Vlad can feel the tides of time shifting around him, pulling him inexorably toward his inevitable destiny. With a resigned sigh, he takes one last look around the frozen classroom, at the friends he had hoped to keep close.
The classroom unfreezes, time resuming its normal flow as if nothing had happened.
“Yo, Vladdie, you look like you’ve seen a ghost!”
Vlad blinks, startled by Jack’s voice breaking through the haze of his thoughts. He shakes his head, trying to clear away the remnants of whatever he had just been thinking of.
“Sorry, just lost in thought,” Vlad manages, forcing a weak smile.
Maddie gives him a concerned look, but before she can say anything, the professor begins the lecture, drawing their attention back to the present.
So I was talking to my bf the other night and made this rec eps list for fun. The idea pretty much was like to challenge myself to see if I had to recc someone who was hesitant to watch the entire show due to length and wanted to get a general gist, which eps would I recc for them to get a good feel, esp if they've maybe onIy had prior experience fics/art or want to delve on that but wanted to have an idea of canon first. I llimited myself to 15 eps with 5 extra "reccomended ", my focus being character dev eps and plot stuff like the lead up to reign storm, valerie's plotline, danielle, etc.
To be honest it was kinda hard at points lol, esp since DP is episodic moreso than plot heavy so it's not really like making a list for like a long running battle shonen or something, but hey this was fun to do fndnd.
Also again this is not a "you must follow this or else" type thing, I only did this for fun, I'll even link the tiermaker I used in case someone has their own version and opinions they wanna post as well which I'd honestly love to see.
Tumblr media
To explain my reasonings
Req. Tier
Mystery Meat - First ep of the show, get introduced to main cast, set up yada yada
Parental Bonding - Introductuon to Paulina, first ep we get an idea for Sam and Danny's relationship.
What You Want - Tucker only really has two episodes during the show, so at the very least the first one focusing on him would be good to have to delve a bit into him.
Bitter Reunions - First Vlad ep, esp since he's Danny's arch-nemesis would be weird not to get introduced for later on.
My Brother's Keeper - Jazz finding out about Danny's secret, plus I really feel this is a great episode showing their dynanic and getting to learn more of how Jazz is.
Shades of Grey - best character Valerie gets introduced here, so felt it was pretty important to include esp for later on.
Public Enemies - This is the first episode where the status quo is changed and now Amity Park is just generally aware of Danny. Thinking he's an enemy yeah, buttttt still aware of Inviso-Bill i nearly typed in buffalo bill
Maternal Instincts - Danny and Maddie getting screentime together, Vlad's second appearance, and the start of Maddie straight up hating his ass lol.
Memory Blank - Mainly chose this one since it's where we learn how Danny first had the accident, so hey backstory stuff.
Reign Storm - The whole plotline with Vlad and Pariah Dark's ring and crown, more Valerie development, it's a fun episode imo. Too bad this didn't get followed in S3 but-
The Ultimate Enemy - Do I really gotta explain lol, Dan and Clockwork, Danny finding out Jazz knows his secret, etc etc like it's pretty much the episode every reccomends.
Flirting With Disaster - Big development for Valerie showing how she's developed imo, continues the Danny and Valerie stuff from Reign Storm, also again I'm biased towards Valerie lol
Reality Trip - Look I'll just be blunt I fucking love this episode, like it's genuinely my favorite of the three specials. It's a fun adventure, I love the Danny being revealed plot line, it's an exciting watch, could not leave it out.
Kindred Spirits - Danielle introduction plus more Vlad development as well, plus depending on your watch order I think this is counted as the S2 finale?
D-Stabilized - More on Danielle and Valerie's plotlines, and for a general bias honestly find it to be a pretty good episode and if any I'd say are "required" from S3 it would def be this one.
Recc. Tier
These were the most difficult cause there's still a bunch of episodes I'd rec.
Life Lessons - First ep where we see Danny and Valerie learn about each other outside of a negative context, plus pretty funny episode.
King Tuck - Again, Tucker barely gets any episodes so I do think his should be watched. Similar reasons to what I put for "What You Want".
Secret Weapons - First ep post-TUE where we see how Jazz and Danny are now that they're both aware she knows his secret. Get more development between them and more Vlad screentime too.
Eye for an Eye - This was such a hard one to choose between D-Stabilized and it, but I felt the former was more important in the end. Sets up the Vlad becoming mayor plotline that gies throughout S3 and also it's just funny like Vlad really rigged an election over a prank war with a 14 yr old.
Urban Jungle - I'm personally not the biggest fan of this episode, plus it's not really a special despite being advertised as such, but it does introduce the ice powers Danny gets that stays with him till the end so I felt it would be a good one to have listed as well.
Fun fact I actually had an earlier ver that incl. Million Dollar Ghost over Public Enemies, but when I thought about it I felt the latter had more bigger impact than the former simply setting up a plot line that Reign Storm goes more into anyway. Plus I really wanted to include Control Freaks cause it introduces Freak Show but again was limited 😭😭
Also it's very hilarious that for all the villains who's episodes I couldn't include, Desiree got BOTH her episodes in, like damn her impact 🤣
Anyways here's the Tiermaker I used in case someone wants to do their own!
the walls you hide behind (I saw the truth inside the real you) - 9
title: the walls you hide behind (I saw the truth inside the real you)
words: 5,072
Story Summary: Jazz is tired of the ghosts, tired of her parents not doing enough, tired of Phantom's recklessness and her brother's persistent exhaustion. When she yells all of her frustration at her parents after nearly getting killed by a ghost, she gets sent to Vlad's mansion in Wisconsin for the weekend - where she's offered a chance. She could have the ability to fight back, protect her brother and her town. Jazz leaps at the prospect. When she returns to Amity Park at the end of the weekend, it's with abilities and strength of her own, and she's fueled by anger and disdain. And she's got her eyes, first, on Danny Phantom.
~~~
Weeks bled into months as Jazz slowly integrated with ‘Team Phantom,’ as Tucker kept calling them. She learned her way around their parents’ equipment so she could ‘help’ fight ghosts.
The more time passed, the more guilt she felt at not fessing up about being the Trapper, but also the more she realized she simply couldn’t. Too long had passed with her lying to them, too many more lies by omission and outright dishonesty had occurred in the months since the incident with Dan.
Her parents’ weapons were easier to learn than she’d anticipated, at least, largely due to the fact that, apparently, Vlad had entirely ripped off their designs in her own weapons. She knew how to work them because they were exactly the same as what she used as the Trapper. She wished she could say that was the biggest surprise when it came to Vlad. Unfortunately, a few days after the entire CAT incident, Plasmius had shown up to fight Phantom and Jazz had gotten the entire story about Vlad while bandaging up burns littering Danny’s body.
The next time he’d shown up, the Trapper had had a lot of fun beating the hell out of the vampiric ghost. She wasn’t sure why Plasmius had taken it easy on her during their scuffle, but she knew he had. Her best guess was he didn’t want to risk hurting his ‘pawn,’ which she did know was how he saw her.
Vlad had known her brother was Phantom when he’d made Jazz into a weapon and pointed her at Danny like a loaded gun, when he’d cleverly stoked her stubbornness and made her suffer. It was a poetic irony, she supposed. She’d learned more about Danny’s accident, knew he had felt agony just like she had. Her pain had lasted longer, she’d surmised, but his torment had been worse, his had killed him.
Maybe that was why she had to continue to suffer - why karma had declared her an enemy. He had died and she hadn’t. Everytime she came close to confessing, something would come up, some shame she had would be remembered. She had only been hunting him for a few months, but those handful were enough to leave a lifetime of shame in their wake. Jazz wondered, sometimes, how her parents would finally react when they learned the truth - she wasn’t a fool, she knew they’d learn eventually - but the longer it took them to figure it out, the more scars they gave their son.
Jazz was tired. She was tired of the ghosts, tired of the pain, tired of the lies, the bandages she gave to Danny and, in hiding, gave to herself. She was just tired. She honestly wasn’t sure anymore who was more exhausted - herself or her brother. Both of them still fought, still protected the city, but Jazz did so by herself. Danny had his friends and Jazz to fall back on.
Jazz had no one, because of her own fear of confessing to her brother. Yet still, the Trapper appeared whenever she could, desperately still trying to keep Danny out of as many fights as possible, even though he could more than hold his own.
It came as a surprise, then, when Mrs. Tetslaff cornered her one day after gym.
“I need to talk to you about your brother,” she said gruffly and Jazz forced down a sigh.
“Yes?” She answered, resigned. Jazz had never disliked a teacher until all of this began - how blind were they, to miss the bruises and scrapes littering her and her brother?
“He’s failing gym. The President’s test is coming up and he needs a gym buddy to whip his scrawny butt into shape so he doesn’t fail.”
Jazz crinkled her nose in irritation. Danny was a verifiable badass - he may not be able to bench press a bus when he was human, but he could still juggle bowling balls like they weighed nothing, and that didn’t even mention his stamina or speed. “Really?”
Tetslaff snorted. “You seen your brother, kid? Boy’s a twig who could get knocked over by a soft breeze.”
Jazz had to bite back her laugh - between herself and Danny, they were the two most dangerous people in this school, by a large margin. She may not be as super powered as him, but she was no regular human. “I see what you mean,” she lied. “What do you need from me?”
“Well, on account of your whole… family thing… I just don’t feel comfortable assigning another student to be his gym buddy, too much chance of ending up at FentonWorks.”
Jazz leaned her head back, unable to stop the groan that escaped her. “But since I live there, I’m a great choice, right?”
Tetslaff shrugged. “You’re fit enough, especially when compared to your brother.”
Again, Jazz wanted to remind this lady that the two of them had the power to level this school, but she didn’t. It was petty, anyway. “I’ll work with him this evening.”
The gym teacher did something with her face that roughly approximated a grin and handed Jazz a piece of paper going over what all would be tested. Pull ups, push ups, running a mile, crunches, and squats. Jazz managed to hide her eye roll until after she’d turned and walked away.
“How are you failing gym?” Jazz asked, exasperated, as soon as she found Danny after the final bell, hanging out with Sam and Tucker as usual, isolated off in a corner of Casper’s grounds.
Danny shrugged. “I can’t really explain suddenly becoming an Olympic level athlete, can I?”
“Especially not when he’s been a fitness failure for fourteen years up until then,” Tucker added, grinning. His grin was quickly replaced by a yelp when Danny volleyed a small ectoblast at his friend, who leaped out of the way.
“You’re failing too, Tucker,” Sam added, rolling her eyes.
“How?” Jazz asked. “You people fight ghosts! And you,” she added, poking at Danny with her finger to drive home her point, “aren’t human! You can easily at least get a C in this class!”
Danny flinched slightly at her words and Jazz looked at him in confusion. She’d heard him say dozens of times by now how he wasn’t human, said it with humor. “That’s the problem, isn’t it?” Danny said.
“What?”
“You don’t know what it’s like, Jazz. To suddenly not be human anymore, to have abilities you don’t understand and can’t control,” Danny explained. I know more about that than you think I do, she thought grimly, remembering how she had to learn to stop jumping on accident when she walked after her own transformation. “I don’t have… I don’t know, control? The ability to tell what’s enough and what’s too much? So I don’t give any.”
“You don’t know at what point it stops looking human and starts looking ghostly?” She asked, understanding.
Danny nodded. “I don’t know where the limit is. So I do the absolute bare minimum.”
“Then we have a problem,” Jazz said, pulling the President’s Test guidelines from her pocket and handing it to him. “You have to pass this or you’re going to fail. Tetslaff stopped me earlier and made me your designated fitness buddy.”
Danny and Tucker groaned, but Sam cackled. “I told you there was no way Tucker would get a buddy and you wouldn’t, Danny!”
“But I can’t!” Danny protested, scowling as he read the sheet Jazz gave him. “I’m not that good an actor. I don’t know how to try to hold myself back while acting like I don’t know what I’m doing!”
“C’mon, little brother,” Jazz said with a sigh. “We’ll work on your acting skills and try to establish a baseline of how to pretend to be normal.”
“Wanna fly home?” He asked, grinning, his earlier low mood gone.
“Of course,” she answered with a smile. She’d been right when she guessed Danny’s favorite ability was flight. They double checked the coast was clear before he triggered his transformation, Sam and Tucker waving farewell as Danny reached out for Jazz and she took his hand. She shivered as he shared his power with her, lifting the two of them with ease far into the sky.
“I’m sorry about how I reacted to the human comment,” he said suddenly, when they were high above the ground.
“It’s fine,” Jazz said, waving it away. “I didn’t know it still bugged you, I’m sorry for bringing it up.”
“I didn’t think it still bugged me either,” Danny admitted, the two of them drifting leisurely through the sky. “I thought I got over it. It’s been a year, y’know? You’re supposed to get used to things after some time has passed.”
“Danny, you’re allowed to still be emotional about a traumatic event.”
“It wasn’t that bad…”
“Danny.” Jazz said sternly.
He sighed. “Okay, it was awful. An eleven on a scale out of ten. But I survived and it made me superhuman. I’m supposed to be fine by now.”
Jazz looked at him sadly as he lowered them to the ground in an alley near the house. “Trauma with a happy ending is still trauma, Danny. Please, at least with me, don’t bottle it up? I understand more than you think I do.”
Danny just shrugged, flickering back to his human half and shoving his hands into his pockets. “I appreciate the pep talk Jazz, but you can never understand what I’ve gone through, what I’ve had to do to survive. The lying, the secret identity, the missed classes and skipped sleep… the pain,” his voice broke at the word, “you just can’t understand.”
You mean all the things I’ve grown familiar with, too? The struggle of hiding yourself, of forming lie after lie? The pain as you heal from injuries, the pain of feeling like you’re being ripped apart from the inside because you made a stupid choice? I’ve got twice as much, now - hiding my own secrets along with yours.
“Even if I can’t fully understand it, let me be your safety net, okay? I know there are some things you just can’t tell Sam or Tucker, ever, but I want you to feel safe telling anything to me,” Jazz said, patting his shoulder reassuringly. And hope you still feel safe around me if you learn what I am.
Danny shrugged again, forcing her hand away. “I don’t want to talk about this right now. We have gym stuff to work on. Do you have any bright ideas on how I can pretend to be human?”
“First, by remembering you are human,” she said, unlocking the gate to the back yard with Danny following behind. “Then we’ll get an idea of the upper limit of your abilities as a human and figure out what a C minus student’s limits would actually be.”
“C minus?”
“Would pre-accident you do any better than that?”
“Shut up.”
Jazz laughed as she pulled the grading sheet from her pocket, smoothing it out. “Okay, so, first I think we should look at running, because -“
“Get down!” Danny yelled, grabbing her arms and granting her his intangibility as concussive blasts sounded around them, her ears ringing as the shockwaves settled. Danny pushed her behind him, transforming back into Phantom as she stumbled and fell, a crater now formed in the ground.
“That ghost sense of yours really is nearly useless, isn’t it?” Jazz asked, clutching her head even as she swore internally. She had trained herself to ignore the signals screaming Ghost! at her the more time she’d spent around Danny.
“I’m busy, Skulker,” Danny said, squatting into a protective stance, firmly between Jazz and the hunter.
“You’re never too busy for me, ghost child,” Skulker proudly declared.
“Yeah, I can be. Actually, just assume I always am,” he said, shooting at Skulker with an ectoblast.
“Aw, I’m injured, whelp,” Skulker mock-whined, dodging the blast and lobbying one of his own in return, grinning wickedly at Jazz. Danny swore as he realized Skulker hadn’t aimed at him, jumping in front of Jazz and throwing up a shield.
Skulker opened his mouth to say something but with a flash of light he was suddenly gone without a trace. Danny lowered the shield, turning and reaching out to help Jazz up.
“What was -" Jazz started, accepting the offered hand, only to be yet again cut off as the same white light suddenly enveloped her and Danny. “- that?” She finished, rubbing the blind spots from her eyes, only to suddenly find herself in some sort of jungle, surrounded by green that reached so high above her it nearly blotted out the blue of the sky high above.
“If I had an allowance, I’d be willing to bet all of it on ‘another Fenton invention’ being the culprit,” Danny said.
“Did they teleport us?” Jazz asked, still trying to blink the dark spots from her vision.
“No, but I think we just got a guest role on the next Honey, I Shrunk the Kids movie,” Danny said, pointing straight upwards. Jazz had to squint through the fading blackness until she finally realized she was still beside the house, the bright orange blob in the sky being her father leaning out the Ops Center window. “Dad had said something a few nights ago about working on an invention to shrink ghosts in size.”
“I hope it has a reverse button,” Jazz grumbled, wiping dirt from her pants.
“So do I.”
“So now we have to get all the way up there. Can you fly us?” she asked, eyeing the wall of the house - it may as well be miles away.
“‘Course I can,” Danny said. Jazz grabbed his hand and he lifted them, but almost immediately he began straining to catch his breath. He sat her down on top of a blade of grass, taller than any tree Jazz had ever seen. He collapsed to his knees on the blade next to her, a sheen of sweat across his face. “Uh. Maybe not. My powers. Something feels wrong. My core -” Danny clutched at his chest, visibly fighting to breathe.
Jazz managed to not panic, though just barely. Danny didn’t have to breathe as much as a normal human - she didn’t think she’d seen him fight for air since his accident, even punches to the stomach that knocked the wind out of her didn’t phase him. “Are you okay?” Danny glared at her and she held her hands up in mock surrender. “Sorry. Standard question.”
“We’re gonna have to go the long way,” Danny decided. Jazz briefly considered outing her secret and flying them up herself, but decided that admitting she was her brother’s ‘enemy’ while he was so weak he could barely fly wasn’t the best idea. Danny flew back over to her and had them halfway back down when gravity suddenly grabbed at them both, sending them tumbling to the ground.
Jazz landed on her shoulder and she bit her tongue painfully to keep from crying out. The nanobots stirred angrily below her flesh, a swarm of ants demanding to be released in response to her pain and rising adrenaline. “Are you okay?” She managed, forcing herself to her feet and going to Danny’s side. He was curled into a ball, again grabbing at his chest.
“No,” Danny groaned, visibly having to force himself to sit up. “My core. Using my powers hurts.”
“C’mon,” Jazz said, helping Danny to his feet, even as he leaned heavily against her injured shoulder. She winced but Danny thankfully didn’t notice, too absorbed in his own problems. “We have to get to the Ops Center and reverse this.”
She helped him forward for several staggering steps until he pulled his weight off of her. “I think I’m okay, the pain’s gone away. So long as I avoid using my powers, maybe I’ll be alright,” Danny said.
In typical Fenton’s Luck fashion, as soon as the words were out of his mouth, a flash of white briefly obscured his feet. Both of them covered their eyes from the sudden bright light.
“Well. That can’t be good,” Danny said, looking at his red tennis shoes.
“Has this ever happened before? A partial transformation?” Jazz asked, the sight of Phantom’s suit and Fenton’s shoes somehow unnerving. The two continued to the door as they talked.
“Only once - the first time I used my Ghostly Wail, it was really draining. But this feels… different? Like my core is… I don’t know, diminishing?”
“The weapon that shrunk us. Could it shrink your core out of existence?” Jazz asked, frowning.
Danny paled, the possibility seemingly aging him far beyond his fourteen years. “That would kill me.”
“What?” Jazz asked, stopping and grabbing his arm, forcing him to turn to face her. “What do you mean?”
“It… it was something future Vlad told me. I killed - uh, Phantom killed me, I mean, Fenton. You know what I mean. But my human body didn’t decay right. I - he - future human me - resembled a charred corpse within hours of his - my? - murder.”
“Ancients,” Jazz muttered, horrified. “That’s how dark Phantom killed, uh, him?”
Danny shook his head. “No. It’s how the portal killed me. Apparently, my human side’s death was quick and didn’t leave visible injuries. No, the body began burning to a crisp after the death.”
“Wait. Are you telling me that without your ghost half…?”
“My core is what keeps me alive. As gross as it is, Vlad did tests on future me’s corpse to see why it… did that. I don’t know the science of how he figured that out - I don’t think I want to know what happened to my body - but without my core, I’m a goner. If my core is fading… The only reason Vlad lived is because he isn’t fully half and half, like I am.”
“Then we need to hurry,” Jazz said, her heart dropping as she gazed up, realizing what she had to do - her secret versus her brother’s life? His life won, every time. “Danny, I -”
Their conversation was again interrupted by blasts, but Danny wasn’t able to protect her this time. Jazz screamed when the blasts sent her flying and she slammed into a boulder-sized pebble head first, gasping for air as pain flooded her senses, dimming the rest of the world and scattering coherence to the wind.
“Jazz!” Someone yelled, her brain too fuzzy to recognize the distorted voice, though it was familiar.
She struggled to her feet, hearing nearby sounds of fighting as though she had cotton in her ears. Groaning, she touched where the pain was the worst, on the back of her head. Jazz stared at her hand and knew she should be more concerned by the red paint on it… but she had something else to do. What was it? She couldn’t remember. There was something screaming in her head, there was a pull in her chest.
“Jazz!” The familiar-but-unable-to-be-placed voice said as a weight forced her to the ground and heat rushed around her. Oh, the person had tackled her. Why? Her entire body hurt already, and that didn’t help. Rude. “Jazz, come on! Damn it Skulker, if you’ve hurt her, it will be your head on my wall!”
What an odd name - Skulker. Did he skulk a lot? Maybe a friend of Sam’s… “Jazz, please!” Danny said, shaking her shoulders. When had she stood up? Oh! The voice was Danny!
“Danny? You sound weird…” Jazz said. Or, at least, she thinks she said it? She had gotten distracted remembering that time Danny had inhaled helium at a birthday party for one of the neighbor’s kids. What was that kid’s name…?
A robotic laugh grated against her aching skull and her entire body tensed on instinct. This voice was familiar too, but it carried a sense of danger, entirely different than Danny’s comfortable familiarity had been. “As if you could beat me, whelp.”
Jazz turned her head to look at the figure the uncomfortable voice came from, squinting. Her vision was still blurred, she could make out a lot of silvery gray and blue, backlit by a light she couldn’t find the source of.
Something shuddered beneath her skin - not painful, but not pleasurable either. She scratched at her arm, expecting to see a bug or a bite or something that caused the feeling, and was surprised to find nothing, just unblemished skin.
“How many times have I beaten you by now? A rusty trash can puts up more of a fight!” Danny said.
Jazz stared at him. Had her brother always had white hair? Was hers white too? She pulled her braid forward, confirming it was red and not white. That white… there was something important about that white.
“You’re powerless, ghost child. You’re nothing against me without death’s gifts.”
Death? Ghosts? Was Skulker going to hurt Danny? The thought triggered a surge of energy, still in her skin, and she forced it down. She didn’t know why she did that - there was a sense of… fear?
She groaned and closed her eyes, her thoughts were so muddled. Her aches and pains had aches and pains, she felt like there was something inside her skin that shouldn’t be there, something was wrong but she couldn’t figure out what, and, damn it, why was everything still so blurry?
“I don’t need my powers to beat you into a pulp,” Danny growled, placing himself between Jazz and Skulker. Wait, that’s wrong, isn’t she supposed to protect him? She’s the older sister! She began to protest when a white flash around Danny’s legs interrupted her. She stared at his legs in confusion, realizing he was now in jeans instead of the black jumpsuit he’d had on. How’d he change so fast? Why was he in that ridiculous jumpsuit anyway?
“Let’s find out if that’s true, then.” Skulker said with a smirk, raising his arm and aiming at Danny’s chest, numerous weapons erupting from the suit. She heard them whir right before they fired.
“No!” Jazz yelled, rushing forward and pushing Danny to the ground, bracing to take the blasts, that she had no doubt would be fatal to her, might even still kill Danny, too. The power within her screamed, begging her to let it out. She gave in, disregarding the fear, not knowing what would happen. Warmth rushed down her entire body and fabric suddenly covered every inch of her. She heard the shots explode, but she was uninjured?
Jazz looked up, seeing the world was slightly tinted around her. At first she thought it was because of the mask she now wore - how had that happened? - but realized that wasn’t it. A sheer, purple bubble wrapped about the two of them, Skulker beyond it.
“Jazz?” Danny whispered beneath her, terror lacing his words.
Right! Ghost! He was scared of the ghost! Why else would he be scared?
She stood up slowly, still slightly wobbly, her entire body aching. Whatever power she’d summoned seemed to be soothing the injuries to a manageable level, at least. Or she was in shock.
…She hoped it was the magical healing suit option and not shock.
The shield wobbled as she did, lasting just another moment before evaporating. Mirroring Danny’s earlier actions, she planted herself firmly between him and the ghost.
“Trapper,” Skulker growled, disdain twisting his features before being replaced by humor. “Of course you’re the Violet Trapper.” Skulker tilted his head to the side, trying to talk past her, to Danny. “There is not a single person in your family who doesn’t hate the ghost child, is there?”
“Leave my brother alone,” Jazz said, finally giving herself over entirely to instinct, not trying to think about what she was doing or how she was doing it. Her body knew which way it wanted to move - she just had to let it.
She held her arms out to either side and shuddered as heat rushed down them. She closed her hands around the knife and gun as they formed. She didn’t study the small, pistol-like weapon that formed - she knew where the trigger was, even if she wasn’t sure how she knew.
Jazz fired and the fight was on. Somehow, she quickly gained the upper hand and she managed to get into close combat. She realized hand-to-hand (or knife-to-suit, at times) was where she excelled. She fought through the pain, through the confusion, through the muddled thoughts.
Skulker’s hand came flying towards her face and she turned, trying to duck around him, realizing too late she’d fallen for a ploy. His other hand, clenched into a fist, met her face with a crunch and was thrown backwards again. She was back on her feet before she registered the pain.
“Maybe I should take your pelt, too,” Skulker mused, stalking towards her. “A matching set can be just as valuable as a one of a kind trophy. I think I’ll - No!” His words were cut off as his form began to shudder, dissolving into a swirling blue light that had appeared.
She watched in fascination as he disappeared into a device in Danny’s hand, cursing and protesting the whole time, until Danny slapped a lid onto the… was that a thermos?
“Oh thank God, you’re alright!” She hurried forward, arms thrown out as she tried to hug her brother.
He flinched and evaded her hug. He remained just out of arm's reach, his face blank. “You. It’s you.”
Oh, had he not realized she had transformed or whatever it was she did? She concentrated on pulling the mask back and grinned when she felt it disappear. “It’s me!” She said, frowning when she felt a metallic taste in her mouth. She lifted her hand - still holding the knife - and wiped her mouth against the back of it. “Oh, ew,” she grumbled at the streak of red that stood out starkly from the purple of her glove.
“You’re the Violet Trapper. It’s you,” he repeated, voice breaking as tears began to fall from his eyes.
“Is that what this suit is? I can’t… my head…” Jazz closed her eyes, the throbbing in her head (and the rest of her body) beginning to climb as the adrenaline faded.
“Do you remember how to fly?”
She blinked at him a few times. She was human - humans can’t fly! She nearly said as much, but that same instinct she’d fought with held her tongue.
Fly.
It felt silly, ordering her body to do something impossible. She knew it would obey, though. A hoverboard appeared below her feet, lifting her several inches from the ground.
“I think so,” she said, adjusting her feet until the balance felt better. Danny cautiously moved closer. Jazz offered her hand to help him up but he just flinched again. She let her hand drop, the ache in her chest having nothing to do with physical injury. Why was he acting like this around her? She loved him, didn’t he know that? He did finally step up, though he went behind her.
She adjusted her feet again but the motion made her dizzy and she pitched forward slightly, sudden motion sickness bringing nausea with it. Danny’s cold arms wrapped around her waist - since when was he taller than her? - and held her steady.
“Fly us to the Ops Center. Pass out after. It helps to focus on the task, push the pain and exhaustion down even though it’s all you can feel right now. Just focus on getting to the next step and knowing rest will be there after,” Danny explained.
“You sound like you’re speaking from experience,” she mumbled, though she obeyed. Danny helped her navigate, she couldn’t look down. She’d never been one for vertigo, why was she now?
Oh, wait. That hadn’t been red paint on the back of her head, had it?
They flew into the open window and Danny pointed at a weapon on a table. “I think that’s it. Set us down next to it.”
Jazz managed to sit them down next to the device, though she quickly found herself on her knees, clutching her stomach as she dry heaved, pain like a knife in her head.
“Jazz? Jazz!”
She looked up, coming face to face with Danny. Worry burned on his face and in his eyes- she got the feeling he’d been calling her name for several seconds before she heard it.
“I’ve got the weapon set to reverse what it did and get us back to normal size, okay? I need you to press a button. I’ll help you as soon as I’m big, okay? We just can’t risk you passing out if we use it on you first. Can you do this for me?”
The words didn’t make a lot of sense but she understood ‘push a button.’ She held her arm up, still clad in the purple suit, and Danny helped her to her feet after a moment’s hesitation.
“C’mon, the adrenaline fade is causing you to crash and feel that head wound. Stay with me, Jazz. Stay with me.” A voice said at her side. Who…? Oh yeah, Danny! And Danny was… someone important.
A whimper escaped her as she tried to think, which only made her head hurt more.
“I’ve got you, Jazz. You’re okay. Damn it, she’s crashing hard.” The last sentence was mumbled and she barely heard it. Jazz. She was Jazz, right? He wrapped an arm around her waist and propped her against his side. She leaned her entire weight against him. She was struggling to remember him - and herself - but he was safe. She couldn’t remember his name right now, but she knew his presence meant she was safe.
He stopped in front of… something. A wall, maybe? He helped her lean against it, making sure her legs didn’t collapse beneath her. “Okay, I’m going to stand over there. When I say so, push the button, okay?”
“‘Kay,” she mumbled, struggling to hold on to his words. Push button. Wait for him, then push button. Button. Button. Button.
“Now!”
Button! Right, button! She pressed as hard as she could on the button. She felt the click of the mechanism and was briefly aware of a flash of light, but froze when she saw her brother, now a giant.
Now with black hair.
Memories rushed back and darkness consumed her, even as she saw that same flash of light heading for her.
