Things that annoy me about assuming the gender identification and sexuality of historic people:
1. Gender roles designated how you were respected. Queens, for example, were traditionally consorts of Kings, so for a queen to be respected, they had to be assertive and appear 'masculine'... this does not necessarily make them trans (think business woman in the 80s breaking social norms by wearing trousers to get respect in the office). Elizabeth I & Hatshepsut are both victims of these assumption, when really they were trying to gain power in a male dominated society. Maybe they were not cis, but there is no way of knowing, so I try not to assume.
2. Friendship is a form of love. Just because two persons of the same sex exchanged compassionate letters does not mean they were in love... or perhaps they were, but homosexuality is not the only alternative to heterosexuality. Pan, Poly, & Bi have always existed (just look at Greek mythology) - don't assume a guy was unhappily married because they once had a male lover, maybe they are bisexual, or Polyamorous? Bi erasure is a big issue (and by extension Poly and Pan too). Freddie Murcury was bisexual, but everyone just remembers gay.
3. Asexuality is ignored. If a historic person of power refused to marry, it is often assumed they were homosexual & thus could not marry who they pleased in most cases... but what if they did not have sexual desires? Stop assuming everyone wants to have sex or get married or have children. Also, some people are romantic, and if they fail to meet "the one" then they also might refuse marriage. My favourite (albeit fictional) example of Ace in ancient times is Hyppolytus - the play is a tragedy, but he is DEFINITELY asexual.
4. One's sexuality and gender identification is really no one's business unless you want people to know. So stop trying to "out" people who died a few centuries ago! If they wanted to express their gender/sexuality, then they likely left something to tell you. If they didn't, then it's really none of our business.

Out of the Closet, Atlanta is closing, sadly. I got in late, but was able to nab some goofy lipstick, a pair of honestly decent suspenders and a rad stone chopping board. Nothing was really bizarre, but I just kinda wanted to highlight the store’s passing. There’s lots of other Out of the Closets, but this is the only one in a community near me, and they did good work there.
I got some of my first male clothing there, because usually more fun options were there than a normal thrift store.

Prompt #907
System A isn't exactly closeted, but they're not exactly out, either. They have people who know and accept their changes and inconsistency, but they've never explicitly stated the reason. It's just... understood.
Or, rather, it was, until Person B came along and started bitching about it.

Easter Eggs? Ted Lasso Teaser Clues
Just one to start... Did anyone else notice that Colin's and Isaac's jackets are the only ones shown hung up "out" of their little closets (...ummmm cubbies). Is that an Easter Egg for S3? Things that make you go hmmmm.... (Oh and Roy will never live down the CGI allegations!)

One time I was in the mall wearing a pan skirt and rainbow suspenders.
In a knife shop, a group of boys entered and I overheard one of them laughingly suggest beating the shit out of the fag.
I left, quickly, quietly, and surrounded by friends.
My sister has a best friend who’s been raised by her very strict grandparents. I’m the cool older sister who can drive, so I hang out with them. I love my sister’s best friend.
My teacher, goes to the same church as her grandparents, told them I am queer.
They are deeply homophobic and now hold me in deep mistrust as a bad influence on their adopted daughter. I rarely get to drive her and my sister anymore.
Their daughter is also queer. God forbid they ever find out.
Everyday I watch the mistrust in peoples eyes grow, and it hurts.
I sometimes wonder if it’s too late to be straight. To reform, to make people trust me.
But then I remember.
The burst of joy whenever someone tells me they love my skirt.
The ability to crack gay jokes at the top of my lungs instead of into my pillow.
All of the amazing rainbows I’ve found and made friends with.
Being out has made my life hard.
But it has also made me happy.
And for better or for worse-
I’m out now.
So let’s make it good.

In October (2019), I had a breakdown, in the dark, just from everything weighing me down. Love is conditional, religion and gods never cared for humanity, and I came to the conclusion that I couldn't escape where I was. So, I cried in the dark, with whatever on the TV screen in front of me, that I couldn't even focus on.
My mother (she lost the right to be called "mom" years ago) came down at some point, pulled my brother's shitty rolly chair over, and sat down. Instead of being a loving and understanding person, she decided to give an awful ultimatum of conditional "love".
"I love you and want to help you, as long as you're not gay or want to change your body."
I froze. Obviously, I lied. I'm both. I felt worse than before, afterwards.
It's been a few years, and I'm not out of the house yet, but I am out of the closet. The more traditional sense of the phrase, that is. I sometimes go to a trans and gender diverse group on the weekends. So, if I ever need emergency help, I know at least somebody's got my back.

Prompt #793
System A has been openly plural for a long time, and have built a strong support system with people who accept them for it. But they're going to be moving soon, and can't help but worry – will they be able to find people who accept and support them in their soon-to-be new town?
