In Gotham Knights there is audio files from Bruce, I think you unlock them when you complete certain challenges.
I’m listening to them and just imagining how each one feels listening to Bruce talk about his feelings, experiences, and hardships.
I imagine Dick feeling a lot of pressure, especially to feel the same way Bruce did. I think he would use his detective skills to over analyze each word, trying to find the ‘deeper meaning’. Maybe he finds it, but I really don’t think there is anything deeper.
Jason probably doesn’t make it through a single one. He had to do it in about 30 second increments. He gets overwhelmed, it gets hot and hard to breathe. He goes through a lot of emotions: anger, confusions, anxiety, sorrow, anger again, hatred, comfort. It all swirls around him, makes his brain feel foggy. He usually runs out of the belfry in costume shortly after a few rounds go the audio.
Tim would be so excited. He’d obsessively listen to each one. He always has his headphones on, jamming to music, focusing on books, and listening to Bruce. He didn’t get much time with Bruce, he had to convince the others to even let him be Robin in Bruce’s passing. Of course he listens to them as he trains, hoping to get a better idea of what his dead mentor wanted his next Robin to be.
Barbra is mourning her dad. Barbra is mourning her friend and mentor Bruce Wayne. Batgirl is mourning Batman. She tries to keep it separate, so sometimes when she’s on patrol she puts it on. It plays in the headset of her mask. She goes on airplane mode, and she drives the batcycle around and focuses on Batman’s voice. She has a photographic memory, and she honestly doesn’t focus on it too much. Then, when patrol is over and she lays down on her couch, too tired to make it to bed even though it’s going to kill her back, she dreams over everything he spoke about.
Gotham Knights now downloading, largely due to @thebibliosphere. Also, it’s 80% off today because it’s Bruce Wayne’s birthday, which is hilarious since the only thing I know about that game is that he dies at the beginning.
real talk, I feel like people would have taken more notice of Gotham Knights if they dropped the open world or had completely different aesthetic. Like imagine if this had the BIFFs and POWs of the Adam West show, or looked like a comic book a la Hi Fi Rush and Freedom Force. Because combined with the confusing marketing it really did just come off as a sequel to Arkham Knight storyline and aesthetic.
Yeah, I feel like marketing really screwed this game over.
And while I really do like the world -- it's got such a neon-noir art deco revival vibe to it -- they really did lean too much into "it's another Arkham game... come... come play another Arkham game" when that was not the vibe of what they were creating.
Side note: one of my favorite mods replaces the Batcycle song with the Adam West theme song 😂
TW: for motion blur effects and some neon flashing lights.
When Tim gets out of the labyrinth in Gotham Knights and Alfred asks him if he's okay and he tells Alfred he's just a little beat up as if he hasn't just had the most psychologically damaging experience of his entire life... it fucks me up.
His voice actor did such a good job. He sounds so broken. He's not even telling them "I just heard Bruce's voice tell me that all the things I was ever insecure about are true" or "I just saw myself die" or fuck even "I'm not okay."
