Marry Me: Buck x Eddie
A 9-1-1 au were what should’ve happened in 6/11 does happen.
2.2k words
Also, this is my first fic so please be nice. I’m sorry if it sucks.
Buck wakes up to the smell of pancakes and the sound of Christopher’s laugh.
He recognizes immediately that he’s in Eddie’s bedroom.
Why?
He doesn’t know.
He gets up and walks into Eddie’s bathroom. Buck grabs the toothbrush he’d brought there a few years prior and then splashes water on his face.
What. Is. Happening.
He’s startled by an “Evannnn” from Eddie and walks into the kitchen.
“Ah, there you are. Sleepy from..” he turns around to see if Christopher is occupied enough by his game to hear. “…last night?” He finishes.
“Uh, yeah. I guess.” Eddie gives him a confused look but Buck just sits across from him.
“So” Buck starts, “what’s going on?”
“I’m making breakfast? Pancakes.” Eddie replies.
“I mean, I see that. But why wasn’t I on the couch?”
“Babe, what are you talking about? You haven’t slept on that couch in the last two years. That’s kinda how marriage works.”
Marriage? Buck knows he hit his head or something, but he would remember if he married the love-
his best friend. He’d remember if he married his best friend.
“Hey, are you okay?” Eddie asks, walking over to Buck. He places a hand on the small of Buck’s back and another on the side of his face.
“What’s going on? Bad dream? If so we can call out of work today. Chris has school, so it’ll be quiet.”
He doesn’t know when, maybe when Eddie said they were married, or when he walked over and placed his hand on his back, but he does know that he’s crying.
“Hey, hey. Evan. Baby, look at me?”
He tries his best to look up at Eddie but because of his tears it’s a little blurry.
“I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry.” Buck says repeatedly. Eddie just cradles his head into his shoulder and now all Buck can smell is the shampoo that Eddie uses.
“Don’t apologize. I’ll stay here with you for a bit, but I’ll go call Hen and ask her to take Chris to school. She’ll tell Cap what’s going on. Okay?” Buck nods and Eddie pulls him into a tighter hug for a few minutes more.
He doesn’t even hear Eddie talking to Hen, but is brought back to reality when the door slams shut.
“Okay, so, do you need to talk about it, cuddle, or a distraction? We can watch the Disney film you keep talking about, or go to the park?”
Buck doesn’t reply verbally but just holds his arms out towards Eddie. Eddie understands enough and pulls Buck into a rib crushing hug. He guides Buck back to the bedroom, lays him on the right side, and gets in on the left. He pushes his face into Buck’s neck and kisses it softly.
“Evan, you know I love you so damn much. Just know that I’ll always be here for you.”
Echos through Buck's mind. What the hell is happening.
——————————————————————
“I wish I could, god I wish I could tell you how much I love you. I should’ve told you before- before this..” Eddie says, his voice breaking. He takes Buck’s hand in his own and lifts it towards his mouth. He kisses each of Buck’s knuckles and says “Evan, you know I love you so damn much. Just know that I’ll always be here for you.” He lays Bucks hand back down, and leans over to rest his forehead on the bed. He never let go of Buck's hand though. He hears the door open, but still doesn’t move.
“Eddie? You okay?” It was Hen. He lifts his head up and looks at her.
“Oh, no. Eddie, can I sit next to you?” He nods and she pulls a chair closer. She gives him a half hug but he still never lets go of Buck’s hand. He looks back down at Buck and rubs his thumb over Buck’s knuckles.
“I..” Eddie starts “I should have told him, Hen. I should’ve told him how…I should’ve told him everything, Hen. And now I’ll never get to. I’ll never get to..” He’s sobbing now, even though he doesn’t know when he ever started crying.
“Hey, Eddie, look at me?”
And he does.
“Buck will get through this. He always does. He’s Buck, you know?” Eddie just nods his head in agreement but he doesn’t truly feel that way. Yes, he is Buck. But he’s also human and he got struck by lightning. Struck. By. Lightning. People don’t just live through that. They don’t.
“You should go home. Get some sleep, maybe eat something other than hospital food and energy bars?” Hen says, placing her hand on his shoulder.
“I don’t want him to..I don’t want anything to happen while I’m not here.”
“They’re taking the vent out tomorrow, not right now. You’ll have plenty of time to rest. Or at least go shower and eat. I can ask the nurse if you could sleep on a cot in here?”
He nods his head, bringing his hand to Buck’s curls one more time. He doesn’t get up from the chair until Hen confirms that he can sleep on the cot. The nurse gives him a pity smile and he gives her a weak one back. He goes to grab his keys but Hen stops him.
“I’m driving, okay?”
——————————————————————
Buck’s woken up by Eddie a few hours later. He opens his eyes and finds Eddie’s face close to his, and his hand in his hair. Eddie’s kneeling on the floor, halfway undressed.
“Why don’t we take a quick shower and go get some lunch? You kinda kept me from eating.” Buck mumbles another sorry but Eddie shakes his head and says it was a joke.
Shower. He’s in the shower with Eddie. He’s washing his hair with so much care, and is looking at him like he’s his whole world. Well, I guess he always does but this time is different. Because Buck knows Eddie feels the same way he does.
“I love you.”
“I love you too, Evan” Eddie replies, pressing a soft kiss onto Buck’s mouth. Buck puts one hand on the back of Eddie’s head and the other on his waist. Eddie hums into the kiss as Buck deepens it, slightly.
“Baby, if you just wanted to kiss me again, all you had to do was ask.” Eddie jokes. But for Buck it wasn’t a joke. For Buck there was no again. This was the first time his lips have ever been on Eddie’s. He knows he should stop. That this Eddie told him they would get lunch. He knew it was a different Eddie. It had to be. And he figured it was some kind of dream? He remembered the accident some time last night.
When they finally get dressed, Eddie slips his and Buck’s wedding rings on. It’s silver and has ‘E & E’ carved into them both. Eddie and Evan. Or Evan and Eddie. He doesn’t know. It’s the most beautiful thing he’s ever seen. He doesn’t know how long he’s been looking at it when Eddie asks him if he’s okay. Buck nods and walks out of the bathroom, towards Eddie. He catches Eddie’s face in the mirror as they walk by. It looks like he’s crying, but when he looks up at this Eddie, he’s perfectly fine. What. Is. Happening.
After lunch they pick Chris up early and go to the zoo. After the best day in Buck’s life, he wakes up with a sound telling him to go to the hospital. It feels as though Eddie is pulling his hand towards him, but not in the direction this Eddie is. He gets up and walks to the truck, grabbing Eddie’s keys on the way. Just before he makes it in the car, this Eddie grabs his waist.
“Wait, Buck. Don’t go. You’re everything I’ve ever wanted. Stay. Please. Don’t leave me. Stay.” At this point they’re both sobbing and Buck doesn’t know what to do. On one hand he could stay, live with this Eddie forever. His husband. On the other, he could go back to his life. His life.
“You’ve known all along, haven’t you?”
“Evan, baby, of course I have. I’m your dream. You made me. You made this world. Just stay in it. There’s no pain here. Soon enough you’ll forget you’re even in a dream.”
“No” Buck says, shoving Eddie’s hands from his waist. “No. I have to go.”
He gets into the car and looks back at this Eddie one more time. The Eddie that’s his husband. The Eddie that loves him.
________________________________________
Eddie walks back into the hospital and finds the cot already set up in Buck’s room. A nurse asks him if he’ll need more blankets, but he just shakes his head and thanks them. He’s never slept this close to Buck before, but doesn’t know if he’ll truly be able to sleep. He walks over to the other side of the bed and sits on Buck’s. He puts his hand on top of his, and once again rubs his thumb over Buck’s knuckles. He sniffs his nose, already crying, and turns to face Buck.
“You know, Evan, you really have to wake up for me. I do not know what I’d do without you. You and Chris are my everything. You’re the only person who’s ever mattered to me this way. Not past girlfriends I dated trying to ignore my feelings for you. Hell, not even Shanon felt this way. Only you. Only you, Evan. Why the hell did you do this to me, huh? Why? I know it’s selfish but dammit it do I wish it was Chimney. It would’ve been Maddie comforting her kid and crying by the bed. At least Jee wouldn’t understand. You know what Christopher said? He asked who was going to take care of him if his ‘second dad’ dies and I did too. He hid the damn baseball bat afraid that you wouldn’t be there to stop me if I did what I did last time. He’s scared, Buck. But I’m terrified. I can’t even shower. All I see is the rain pouring down on me and you hanging off of the latter. I need you to wake up. Can you do that for me? Please wake up for me. Please.” He gets up and walks over to the cot, placing a kiss to Buck’s other hand before laying down. He says his final I love you, and tries to sleep.
——————————————————————
Buck runs as fast as he can to the ICU. That’s got to be where they put him. He hears everything Eddie says and pounds on the glass, saying that he’s trying his best. He’s trying to get back to Eddie. Knowing how Eddie feels changes everything. He’s got to get back to him.
He tries all night but can’t break the glass. He sees Maddie and his parents walk into the room with a nurse.
“What is he doing here? You wouldn’t let us stay?” His mom asks. God, Mom, don’t say that to Eddie.
“I’ll go, I’m sorry”
“No, he’d want you to be here, Eddie.” Thank you Maddie. Thank you.
“Okay, so we’re going to take the vent out now. We’ll wait for him to take a breath on his own. We will only have a minute to be sure.” That’s all I have? I have to get in there. I have to get in there.
“Dad” Buck turns and sees Christopher. It’s got to be other world Chris.
“Pound on the door and break it open, like you did when Dad was hurt.” Right. Why didn’t he think of that before? He pulls Chris into a hug and thanks him, and then he runs to the door. Thirty seconds left. He doesn’t have much time. Twenty. Ten. Five.
He can finally breathe again. He’s breathing. On his own. He’s breathing. The first thing he does is open his eyes. He turns his head and sees Maddie and his parents. They say their ‘you’re back’s but Buck doesn’t pay that much attention to them. He turns his head towards Eddie, on the other side, and he’s crying.
——————————————————————
He’s breathing. On his own. He’s breathing. He opens his eyes and looks at his family first. Of course he does. They’re his family. But he ignores their comments, doesn’t even say hi. He turns his head towards me and gives me a half smile.
He squeezes my hand, that I didn’t even realize I was holding.
“Eds.” God I missed his voice.
“Evan.” He says, trying to hold back a sob.
“Tell me if I’m being too forward.”
What the hell is he about to say?
“Mhm” he says, not really being able to talk right now. Buck’s rubbing his thumb over his knuckles.
“I love you..” He loves me? He loves me. Oh my god, he loves me. Before Eddie can even reply, Buck finishes what he was saying.
“And I know that you feel the same way. I’ve talked to Christopher about this before, so don’t think it’s some crazy coma mind thing.”
What?
“Okay, okay I won’t.” Eddie says sitting in the chair closest to Buck’s bed, and laying his other hand on Buck’s arm.
“Marry me.” The air in Eddie’s lungs spilled out all at once. He’s sure Buck’s parents had made some sound, but he didn’t hear it.
Marry me. Not a question, a statement.
“Really?” Eddie says, not even holding his tears back anymore.
“Really. I can’t give the big speech I planned, so I hope that..”
“Yes.”
“Yes?”
“Yes, Evan. Yes.”

Danny as a background npc of Tucker's and Sam's stream
It all started with Tucker and Sam having an idea to go live streaming to promote their beliefs like Sam with her eco-friendly stuff and her defense technique tidbits and Tucker's meat importance and also some tech tidbits.
Both streams were getting views, a whole lot to a point where the two were so popular that some haters would try and expose them, even tried to hack but is shamefully failed because for some reason, each time they tried to search about this Amity Park, their screens would glitch and the like. It's like the firewall is protecting all residents from the outside world which got the viewers questioning but Tucker and Sam didn't know anything about that, not even Danny who suddenly popped in on their stream.
slam12kki: WHOS THAT???
dragonobsessed_coffee: ....someone needs some explaining to do...just in case.
animalkingdom123: No
Bruce_W: Hey, the kid's look a lot like...
animalkingdom123: NO
blueM0nk3y: YES
Llupex0x: only one things that needs to check out
While the chat was booming, Sam and Tucker is in a collab this time and is in Danny's house when Danny first popped in and so is Jack and Maddie with some snacks, and seeing Jack's features and personality the chat went wild.
Llupex0x: lmao, nvm
viviran76: we're gonna hav to weyt
OPrtx: wats wrong wit u??
Everyone is thinking that Jack may be a cousin or something but the thing is, the Fentons are in no way related to Bruce at all. Sam and Tucker was confused but shrugged it off.
Anyways, continuing on, another collab was set again and this time, Danny popped in casually with an angry look, not noticing that Sam and Tucker was still live but the two didn't mind and had their focus shifted to Danny and Danny started complaining about ecto-acts and how he can't go a day without getting shot and hunted down by Skulker who wants his pelt.
The Batfam who watches this got concerned.
Then another collab was set outside and Danny was seen in the background with a strange belt on and he looks like he's being chased and beaten up, Danny wasn't just running, he was also fighting back and all. The one who is fighting him is Vlad who also has a strange belt on and is now using an ecto gun, but nobody knows that, what they do know is that the man is carrying a gun and is actively shooting it at Danny and Danny also has a gun with him and a bat.
Vlad and Danny exchanges blows, the JL are now concerned.
Sam and Tucker are just continuing their live cuz they thought it would be perfect if they could ask for help with this type of proof (they can't seem to find anyone to come help in their aid and was dismissed as kids prank)
Another collab was set up once more, and this time, Sam and Tucker wasn't shown. What it did show was Maddie and Jack trying to fight the men in white while Jazz tries to get Danny out of.... chains?? and Danny is also inside of a cage??? looks beaten up and bleeding.
Sam and Tucker was sending proof.
But that was in 1990's and the heroes and the viewers saw the video in 2020's already

Talia took a 20+ Year Undercover mission a while ago
So! Talia is the Daughter of Ra's Al Ghul, and has been alive and at his side for many years now. Decades even. She is well into her 100's, even though her physical Body looks like that of a 20 yr old.
And in all the years that she has lived, what's to say she didn't take a few years off as a vacation? Even Ra's must take a few years off every once in a while, leaving to spend time on some remote island he can relax on for once. So, one day in the Early 80's she decided to do the same.
But she wouldn't be completely relaxing, she would take the break to further the League's goals still. She decided to Dye her Hair, change her Name, get into an acceptable College, and study Lazarus Waters to their scientific limit. She decided to name if Ectoplasm, to avoid any unwanted attention.
And while there, she met a pair of men doing the exact same.
Jack and Vladimir were nice enough. Although their Research was more focused on Ghosts, or as she would call them, Pit Demons. They were convinced that Ectoplasm and Ghosts came from another Dimension, and if they could find a way to open a Dimension Gateway to this theoretical Ghost Zone, they could aquire Limitless Clean Energy (and maybe find a way to contain the Ghostly threat).
Over the years, Talia Maddie would fall for Jack. Eventually, even after she had completed her College Studies and Vlad had left contact with them, she decided to extend her Vacation to further study Ectoplasm with Jack. One thing led to another, and eventually she found herself pregnant. And then it happened again.
Jazzmine and Daniel were the cutest little babies. But she knew the danger they would be in if it was ever discovered that she was their Mother, so she trained them in everything she could so they could survive. She knew her time as Maddie Fenton was coming short, but she resolved to stay, at the very least until Jazz was an Adult.
She didn't account for Daniel becoming a Small Town Hero, but those were just the Trials of motherhood.
Then, the day came. She left a note on her bedside table explaining that she regretted what had to happen, and left in the middle of the night. It was better this way.
...
The year right after she returned, her Father forced her to have a Child with his most prospective Heir. The Bat, he called himself. Oh he was Charming, there was no denying that, but unfortunately she was still working through her feelings about Jack.
She treated her resulting child poorly because of that, and that she regreted it deeply. She loved him, honestly she did, but it was hard to look at him and not remember Daniel. Still, she persevered.
The day she once again had to give up her son for his protection was the hardest of her life.
But it was unavoidable. The Coup that had taken her Father's life had also fractured the Organization, anyone could have taken their shot at her Son as the rightful Heir. She needed to protect him as she took care of the Traitors.
...
Damian always knew he was the One True Heir. It was his defining character trait for his early years of life. Even though he had grown to be more than just that over recent years, he always felt like it was a key part of his identity.
Until now.
Because the BatComputer had just finished running a DNA Test on the Blood of a man who he had spotted on his Patrol the previous night.
A DNA Test that had come back, with results claiming that the man, who looked almost exactly like a younger male version of his Mother, was his Half Brother.

Good reveal au, where after learning phantom's identity and realizing the atrocities that the GIW have committed (or alternatively, ethical science au, where they find out the GIW plagarized them), the fenton parents decided to create the 'ultimate ghost-ending weapon' and sell it to the agents.
They go absolutely overboard, describing to the agents in meticulous detail how it evaporates any ghost it hits near-instantly and describing it quite ruthlessly in the blueprints, and soon the GIW have raplaced all their main weapons with the new gun.
Except it doesn't actually kill ghosts. It's the Fenton Bazooka. You know, the one that creates a portable portal to suck the ghost back into the ghost zone? What they actually did was retool it slightly to make it look more grusome than it actually is. They even added a beacon in Phantom's Keep, which all Fenton Bazookas will target when they open a portal, so the ghosts are always delivered to the keep.
From there, Phantom stationed an emergency medical team at the keep to treat the many injured and ragged ghosts that the GIW 'destroyed,' and to explain what just happened.
What they didn't anticipate was that now that the GIW have a mass-produced weapon that they believed would effectively eradicate ghosts, they would go on the offensive. They have a number of cities they've been monitoring but didn't want to get involved in without better tools.
One of those cities is Gotham.
And the Bats are ectocontaminated enough to register as ghosts.
Batman witnessed several of his children get evaporated by green energy weapons within mere moments of each other. He's absolutely gutted. Devastated. They didn’t even stand a chance.
He'll get his revenge, and it's frighteningly easy to track the weapon to private subcontractors. The Doctors Fenton, in Illinois. Their research calls for the genocide of all ghost kind, and apparently, that war started by killing his own children.
His children will not die in vain.
He gets to Amity Park and finds the Engineer's Nightmare of a building that is Fentonworks, but that night, before he can hack through the security and break in, one of the windows opens.
It's one of his kids that he had watched evaporate before his very eyes. They give him a silent signal of one of their identifying security codes and gesture for him to come inside.
Is it a trap? A prank in poor taste? Utterly genuine?
He goes through the window.
All of his dead kids are there, wearing borrowed pajamas and only their dominoes to conceal their identities. Daniel Fenton (son of the Fentons, this is his bedroom, has voiced a few arguments against his parent's views, but still an unknown) is among the crowd of teens and young adults, twirling on an office chair and obnoxiously sipping a capri sun.
"First thing you need to know, Bats," Daniel says after finishing his drink, "is that my parents are absolutely NOT genocidal ectophobic scumbags, and that is the reason why your kids are still alive."
