"You just aren't cis for attention' Ah yes. I have a makeshift binder that makes my back hurt just because why not. Let me cry at night for hours because of dysphoria because I just can. I deal with your rude comments because I want to. You know, why don't I lose all my friends because of my gender, that sounds so fun!

psa: you don't have to look a certain way to be enby
you don't have to wear oversized button downs and bagy jeans to "pass"
you don't have to wear intricate and colorful makeup so people know you're queer
you don't have to shave your head to look more androgynous
you don't have to bind everyday to prove that you're really trans, and not just faking
you don't have to use they/them or he/him or fae/faer pronouns to not be a girl
jesus christ i just want to go and shake 14 year old me and tell her she can wear dresses and miniskirts and bras if that makes her feel good
tell her that if wearing mascara threatens her carefully crafted gender identity, then its not a great gender identity
just because you came out as "genderfluid/enby/gender queer/agender/transman/demiboy/unlabelled", masculinity doesn't mean shit (neither does femininity for that matter) and if coming out makes you feel like you're in more of a box, coming out did not serve it's purpose
screw that teacher who asked "why are you wearing girl clothes?" because you came to school in something pink
screw the imposter syndrome you felt wearing a bra instead of a binder
screw the people that say you're misgendering yourself when you call yourself a girl
I can be just as trans in a miniskirt as i am in mens jeans
i can have a gender crisis with or without lipstick on
i can be a lesbian with french braids or a buzz cut
i can flip off gender with long, unkempt cuticles, or 2 inch acrylics
my gender expression is for me, and me alone. if someone with shaved legs, eyelash extensions, waist length hair, and a pushup bra asks you to use he/him pronouns for him, you had better damn well respect that

"going on testosterone will make you sterile" is one of the most dangerous lies that transphobes promote because, no, it doesn't. trans afabs on T can still get pregnant. speading this lie around can lead to trans afabs who have sex with amabs having unwanted pregnancies. this is especially dangerous due to the overturn of roe v wade. if they live in a state where abortion has been criminalized and they want one, they either have to go to another state or carry it to term. if you're someone who has heard that T makes you sterile and believed it, this is me telling you its not true, it's a transphobic lie. don't spead it around. please

Theyfab Flag!
Tumblr media
Image ID: A 7 striped flag. Colors, in descending order, are: pink; salmon; light gold; white; light purple; violet; pink. End ID.
Theyfab is a slur/insult thrown at AFAB nonbinary people, especially feminine-presenting AFAB people. I am reclaiming it. This flag is for other people who reclaim it. The reclaimed theyfab stands for celebrating femininity when freed from girlhood, being connected to your AGAB, body, femininity, and/or she/her pronouns without that invalidating your identity, separating gender from presentation, transmasculinity and transneutrality, detaching oneself from girlhood, and acknowledging the transmisandry and the misogyny that AFAB trans people face. Not all theyfabs will relate to all of these, they're just possible experiences that might effect why someone would identify with theyfab as a term. It stands against reducing trans people to their AGABs, destroying the norms that trans people must be traditionally masculine, feminine, or androgynous to be valid, supports pronoun nonconformity and gender nonconformity especially when done by trans people.
Anyone who is AFAB and nonbinary and/or transmasc and/or uses they/them pronouns and/or neos can reclaim this term. Additionally, anyone who's been derogatorily called "theyfab" can use it, regardless of actual AGAB, identity, or pronouns. It's my belief that slurs can be reclaimed by the people they hurt and the people like the ones they hurt.
If you cannot reclaim theyfab, but you support what this reclamation stands for, support people who reclaim it, and wholeheartedly support transmascs, transneutrals, and AFAB trans people, you can use this tf ally flag!
Tumblr media
Image ID: A diluted version of the theyfab flag with an ally symbol in the colors of the theyfab flag, not diluted
Why I reclaim theyfab:
I have not personally been called a theyfab, but I feel I am the person they'd want to mock the most. Of course, I hit the basics:
• AFAB
• Nonbinary
• They/them
But also, I am:
• Bigender, with my primary gender being hypergirl
• Feminine presenting
• Cisgender, fully identifying as cisgender, and sometimes cistrans but usually just cisgender
• Don't want to transition
• She/her
If I wasn't above working for transphobes I could have been their theyfab mascot. I want to reclaim theyfab because despite being feminine presenting, despite still using she/her pronouns and still describing myself as cisgender, and despite being a girl, I am aporagender. I am nonbinary. I am all of these things and me being a girl, a girly girl, doesn't invalidate my gender and just because I prefer she/her pronouns doesn't mean I don't wanna be called they/them quite a bit. I am not any less valid for how I present or for the rest of my identity than any other nonbinary people, even those who fully medically transition.

I’m tired of people accusing transmasc and nonbinary people of just being tomboys who are having a trans phase. Like, for starters you don’t get to act like you know someone more than they know themselves. And even if it was a phase, you can’t tell someone that while they’re in the process of discovery and going through something that feels very real at that moment. But then I started thinking, and I realized this negative connotation around the idea of phases is really toxic to begin with and holds back a lot of people in discovering themselves. People should be allowed to explore themselves without fear of “being wrong” about themselves. I’m tired of this mindset of phases being negative because I think that trying something and it not being right in the end is actually really helpful in making progress towards a better understanding of self. Phases are good, don’t worry if what you’re going through right now ends up being a phase in the end.

Nearly 8 years difference, same top and bathroom. New confidence.
I don't wear this tshirt out, I bought it as a fun little thing for me to wear at home, but it's turned out to be a great way to mark some of my transition

question: Is it morally wrong to lie about my AGAB online? I'm AFAB, but wearing the label of FTM or simply Trans makes me dysphoric to a level unimaginable. I cope by lying about my AGAB and saying I'm AMAB, but I've recently been thinking about the morality of doing so.
It's best not to assign morality to AGABs, anon. They're just labels after all.
Also: people online (and most people IRL) are not entitled to know what some doctor said about you when you were born. Calling yourself a male or saying you were AMAB/a cis man isn't problematic, because it's the internet and it doesn't matter. You're a male: end of story.
Even IRL trans people lie about their AGAB all the time for whatever reason (being stealth, not getting misgendered on forms, dysphoria, etc). Transfems and nonbinary people also lie about their AGAB.
Unless you're in a doctor's office/court/etc, you can say anything about your assigned sex you want! You could even say you were MTM (a trans man who feels like he's always been male in some way), refuse to talk about AGABs, or use a label like A?AB.
