For @shanastoryteller who asked for the gut bacteria expert's* recipe:
The professor's green energy smoothie
Ingredients
(two servings, according to the original)
half an avocado
half an apple
the juice from half a squeezed lemon
1 pinch fresh ginger
10 grapes or half a kiwi
5 dried walnuts
1 sheet nori (the kind used for sushi)
4 bunches of spinach
1 bunch parsley
a handful of broccoli
a handful of bean sprouts
half a glass of herbal tea
Preparation
Prepare the vegetables and fruits by removing the core from the apple, the peel from the kiwi, etc.
Put the vegetables in the blender with the herbal tea (cooled) and blend until it becomes a very fine-grained, green and fragrant smoothie.
Garnish with fresh herbs according to your taste preferences.
From https://livsstil.tv2.dk/mad/opskrift/professorens-groenne-energigroed (translation: https://livsstil-tv2-dk.translate.goog/mad/opskrift/professorens-groenne-energigroed?_x_tr_sl=auto&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=da)
My tips
The taste is pretty neutral (YMMV) but if you substitute ingredients, it may affect the taste - cabbages in particular
I usually double the recipe and have it over two days - I can't be bothered to keep half an apple lying around
I use a tall container with a volume of 1,6L/3.4 pint - that's on the small side for my version
I wouldn't make bigger portions than can be eaten over two days, and unless consumed straight away it must be kept in the fridge - you're risking a bacteria bomb instead of a nice smoothie...
I rarely use lemon, but use a few good slices of ginger (peel the whole chunk, slice and freeze for less fuss)
If you live near an Asian market, they probably have bigger packs of nori. I buy one with 50 sheets - it's *much* cheaper per sheet than the supermarket's price
I skip the parsley (can't be bothered) and buy chopped (see next bullet point) frozen spinach and add to taste
Instead of broccoli (expensive; doesn't last long in the fridge) I buy whatever cabbage is cheapest and use a large handful of it chopped up some (the fibres in cabbage and whole spinach leaves does not play well with my blender - YMMV)
I use a large mug of herbal tea and add psyllium husk for more fibre
In general I substitute/add veggies/fruits if I have something going a bit overripe (buying a load of bananas cheap and freezing them if they go brown before eating: also great for this); if I'm out of grapes, I add raisins ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
IIRC he's a proponent of using organic prooduce. As you can tell from my notes I'm cheap and/or poor cost conscious, so I buy the cheapest. It's up to you :)
I eat this in addition to whatever fruits&vegs I usually have - it's an easy way to up my intake and get some things I don't eat a lot of (e.g. cabbage, spinach)
I make my own beansprouts - but this is already too long, so it's in the next post
*Oluf Borbye Pedersen - from the link:
Intestinal Microbiome Research OP is a leading partner in the EU-Metahit initiative (www.metahit.eu) which delivered the first and second gut microbial gene catalogue of 3.3 and 9.9 mio microbial genes, respectively, from the human intestinal tract.  With quantitative metagenomics he and his team demonstrated in a population sample that about a fourth of adults is markedly deficient in gut microbiota diversity. The same individuals were featured by insulin resistance, overweight, dyslipidaemia and proinflammation. OP et al. reported the first quantitative metagenomics study of gut microbiota in type 2 diabetes, prediabetics and women with gestational diabetes and they discovered a new biological fingerprint, gut enterotypes of the human host. In addition, in recent studies of the human gut microbiome, Pedersen and colleagues have teased out drug effects versus disease effects on gut bacteria composition and function. Recently, they reported the first example of gut microbes linked to human insulin resistance. Mechanistically the investigators extended and validated their findings in in rodents. The Pedersen team has done several interventions targeting the human gut microbiome and blood metabolome including the impact of broad-spectrum antibiotics and of dietary gluten content, respectively. Studies that influence dietary and medical practice.

eating disorder harm reduction
no one ever compiled this so that it what we are doing today. for people with eds and people whose loved ones do. please note: i’m not a doctor. this is a compilation of things from books and ed resource sites.
for people whose loved ones have an eating disorder:
try to make sure they know these things.
try not to force them to eat, they might feel uncomfortable eating in front of people. also, risk of refeeding syndrome.
if their life is in danger and you are seeking help for them, consult the person beforehand to make sure they will be safe and give them a heads-up so that they aren’t startled (especially if they’re neurodivergent! giving them notice will aid control!)
offer them ways of controlling things aside from food - practice consent, include them in conversations, don’t talk about them behind their back, compliment their makeup or hair.
be patient. the person may be irritable from lack of sleep, feelings of depression, worthlessness, etc., or malnutrition.
keep in mind that you can’t tell if someone has an eating disorder by looking at them. people of all weights do - only 17% of anorexics are underweight - and also, men and non binary people can also have eds.
general:
drink lots of water, especially if you’re drinking lots of caffeine.
drink some electrolytes at least once a week - gatorade, electrolyte tablets, coconut water, doesn’t matter, just get it into your system.
if you are getting dizzy or flushed and can feel your heart beating, quick carbs will raise your blood sugar - sweets, bread, fruit, juice, non diet soda, whatever. keep snacks around pls.
your brain uses 400-500 calories daily. eat more than this.
take your supplements!
you still need protein, have an egg or something.
don’t take adderal or insulin unless you are actually diabetic or neurodivergent, because you are raising the price by buying them and denying access to those who need it.
throw a towel over the mirror. it’s not worth it if it’ll cause you anxiety.
try to limit disordered behaviours like body checking, purging, and weigh ins.
practice good dental hygiene.
put your scale somewhere where you have to actively look for it to weigh yourself.
avoid social media and for your sake don’t go on pro ed tiktok or tumblr or twitter or insta.
get a buddy who also struggles with the same thing if possible to support each other.
get regular medical check ups (if you can afford it)
practice things within your control - makeup, hair, clothing, etc.
push your rules - eat 5 minutes before your time, or 50 calories over your limit.
for people with restrictive disorders (e.g. anorexia):
do weight and resistance training at least twice a week to prevent musculoskeletal conditions such as osteoporosis.
don’t drink on an empty stomach.
try to put gaps between fasting periods.
don’t fast for more than 72 hours.
wear lots of layers to keep warm.
eat an extra 100-200 calories on your period if you menstruate.
have a metabolism day.
take care of your hair.
as horrifying as this is to many people, please go to the hospital if you’re experiencing heart problems or if you’re passing out for more than 30 seconds.
for people with purging disorders (e.g. bulimia):
if you would like to purge, wait 15 minutes first.
after purging: drink lots of water - the emptiness you feel is dehydration. don’t brush your teeth but rinse your mouth out, preferably with an alkaline mouthwash or baking soda mixed into water. do something you want to do, like reading a book or watching a show. don’t smoke. don’t have anything acidic. eat a banana or some chocolate or a rice cake to keep your blood sugar levels in check.
if you vomit blood or your vomit looks like coffee grounds, this is a sign of internal bleeding. you could be drowning in your own blood from a hole in your esophagus, essentially. go to the hospital or call 911/999/the emergency number in your area.
stay safe everyone. i hope this helps. also, i do not use these tags - i have them blocked - but i am using them so that people on these tags will find this because they need it most.

Happy Birthday My Love
Happy birthday L
ao3 version: here
It was the best day of the year. That is to say it was Halloween, and more importantly your husband L’s birthday.
I know right? You snatched the greatest detective in the world? Obviously, you’re beautiful. Anyway enough about you!
————
You met him in a cafe in NYC when he was 23 and you were 21. You were reading a Sherlock novel, he ordered 14 big cookies, 2 strawberry slices shortcakes, Jasmine tea with a bowl of sugar cubes, and a banana split. He sat right by your table and you looked over with concern.
“…are you okay?”
“Excuse me?”
“I’m concerned for your health. You can’t seriously eat all of that in one sitting.”
“Why can’t I?”
“Because that’s not a proper lunch.” You say as you lift up your drink.
“Of course not. This is my pre lunch snack to get my brain stimulated.” At his statement you spit out your drink in surprising.
“What are you, diabetic? How can someone eat so much and yet be so skinny.”
“I find that you can burn calories by using your brain.”
“Okay Einstein. Just don’t drop dead anytime soon. I’m just here on vacation, I don’t need the police suspecting me to be the serial killer going around.”
“Why would they think that? You’re just a tourist.”
“I don’t find most police to be very bright or effective. Private Investigators do more work in a week than any beat cop could do in their entire life.”
The strange man was silent for a second, so you assumed that the conversation was over. However you weren’t expecting him to hold out a cookie for you. “Take it. Movie theater popcorn isn’t that good.”
“The hell?”
“Your tickets. Jaws, 1:15. I assume that your waiting for someone. You only got a drink and during lunch hour most people buy food.”
“Oh really? When do you have lunch, if this is your snack?”
“Same time as your movie. The only difference between then will be I’ll be dinning on fine quality food and you’ll be having stale popcorn and processed butter.” You look away. “Did I strike a nerve.”
“No offense but you’re a stranger. I don’t think it’s appropriate for me to spill my guts and whole life story to you.”
“Yet you asked me if I was okay.”
“Yeah, I’ve never seen anyone eat so many sweets. Is it a crime to be concerned?”
“No. Just think of this as me repaying the generosity.”
“My Fiancé and I came out here to meet his parents.”
“You’re a little young to be getting married.”
“Uh, thanks? I don’t think it’s that weird, I’m 21. It’s not like I’m 12 being married off to some foreign diplomat.”
“Let me give you some advice. He either gave you the ring to get you to shit up or because he wants an unpaid maid.”
“Excuse me?”
“21 men don’t typically give up on hooking up with bimbo’s in short leather skirts. I’m 76%- no, 78% certain that he’s going to cheat on you by years end if he’s not already cheating. And judging by the way you smile sadly at your ring and scrunch your hands around your tickets I think you know that too.”
“What would you do if you were me?”
“Dump him and go out with the skinny diabetic across from you, clearly.” He responded sarcastically.
“Ha, you’re so funny.” You replied back with the same tone, rolling your eyes.
“You should at least tell him what you want. If he’s not willing to negotiate, leave him.”
“What I want, huh? I want to go see Jaws, would any diabetic Einsteins be interested in movie theater candy?”
“Okay that jokes run its course. No I’m not interested in that chewy soulless garbage.”
“Could I bribe you with another slice of cake?”
“I thought that you were worried about my health? Also this is highly improper.”
“Making a new friend?”
“Chatting up a man when you’re engaged.”
“It’s not like I’m asking you out, I just don’t want to go to my movie alone. When life gives you lemons, ya know?”
“Cake and cookies. You eat some too okay. I’m Yuuji.” You shook him hand and replied back with your own name.
——
“Okay, why do you like this movie?”
“It’s a classic! Sure they probably should’ve just poisoned the stupid thing. Sometimes the right answer is the most obvious one.” You two smiled as you walked out of the theater.
He stopped dead in his tracks. “Sometimes the answer is the most obvious one. I gotta go, here…” he scribbled down something on his ticket and handed it to you. “Nice to meet you, friend.” He trotted off down the street. You looked down at his ticket and saw he gave you his number.
“Huh, not bad Emo boy.”
————
“My love, wake up. I made you breakfast.” You say as you kiss his neck.
“Let me sleep in on my birthday.” He groaned. “Don’t temp me to give in with that sultry voice. You know I can’t say no to you when you do that.”
“Not true. It’s only 82.79% affective. As evident of now.”
“I stayed up late for weeks to perfect your favorite pancakes for you.”
“How’d I get so lucky to have a wife like you?”
“Good question, better question though is how did I manage to impress the world’s 3 greatest detectives?”
“By being intoxicating.” He replied smoothly.
“Okay Casanova, eat up before you food gets cold.” He smirked, grabbed you by your waist and pulled you into bed with him. Then he trailed kisses from your collar bone up to your jaw and finally planted a long deep loving kiss on your lips. “L!”
“How can you be mad at me when I have the sweetest treat right here in my arms?”
“I love you, L.”
“I love you too.”
BONUS:
L: Mmh, these buttercream cheese and strawberry pancakes are delicious. Thank you my wife.
You: A perfect meal for my perfect husband. Mwah!
You Two kiss!

Cheating Anxiety With Me
Seatbelts tight? Hands Steady? Are you still shaking? No, then lets rideeeee.
Anxiety the feeling of dread, uneasiness, fear, shaking, restless, heart beating rapidly, etc
Coping with anxiety is difficult especially for the mentally deranged girlies. No hate I love you all. You are just so my type of people.
Today I am going to tell you how to deal with it because you know what I say, "Kill or get killed."
The classic deep breathing technique: Start from 1 breathe in to the count of 4 then hold at 5 and breathe out from 6 to 10. This will help in evening out your breathing and slow down your heart beats.
Move, Sway and twirl: You feel an anxiety attack taking over you the best way to tackle all that excess energy released through FFF hormone is by MOVING YOUR BODY. Exercise. Dance. Run. Anything just move.
Sleep: Yeah, you read it right. Just shut down your system and sleep. This is my personal go to. Overwhelming anxious thoughts, feelings, anything we let it marinate over a nap. Works wonders for me.
Talk to a friend: Another personal go to. Sometimes the feelings are so loud, disturbing and dark that sleep is no longer an option. At such times talk it out. Seek a friend. Best if they are physically present with you. Ask for a hug. Loving touch. Don't be embarrassed. It does wonders. Trust me.
Nature therapy: One of the ways I accidentally discovered was that trees, plants and flowers can be extremely calming. No one to rely on. Go and hug a tree. I promise you it works. Social anxiety? Okay I got you also covered. Buy some fresh flowers or if you have house plants touch them. Inhale their scent. Graze the petals or leaves lovingly and tenderly. Feel them. It will calm you down.
Sugar saves the day: Okay some people might come at me for this one but honestly anything sweet is the holy grail for dealing with it. Now the trick here is not eating desserts and chocolates but rather fruits like grapes, banana, watermelons, etc. Basically eat healthy things. We don't want diabetes now, do we?
The 333 rule: This one goes like name 3 things in your surroundings, identify 3 sounds and touch 3 things. This helps in distracting your brain and calming down your wreck of a system.
Positive self talk: Keep on repeating like a broken record that it is going to be okay and you will get through it. As loud as your inner thoughts get that much loud this self talk gets. Basically overpower that annoying bitch inside you. Winning is the only option.
Identify the triggers and face them: Literally be a detective and find out your triggers and then put yourself through it by yourself until it becomes a normal thing for you. I am not advising this for dangerous things but you can try this on smaller triggers. Example: A song, a scent, a topic is a trigger to you. So now listen to that song, inhale that scent, read things around that topic willingly and train your brain and body to tackle it so that when it comes up suddenly your brain doesn't go in survival mode.
No to drugs, alcohol and risky behaviors: You should be going to them over your dead body. Please I am begging you don't indulge in them. Yes I am asking you lovingly, with teary eyes please don't do this to yourself. Don't punish yourself more. The world is already a harsh place if you won't be kind to yourself, who will be then?
Bonus one: Find a strict no bullshit friend who isn't afraid to call you out on your toxic behavior, put you in your place and is ready to be the pillar on which you can rely on. Because we are not able to differentiate in right and wrong during those times. Its really difficult to maintain the moral compass. That's why you need a community of trusted people to hold you down.
Fight your way back. Because this world is a cruel place babygirl. You do anything to survive. If you are still dreaming of a saviour. Dream on.

Felix volturi with a mate who is type 1 diabetic? I’m really struggling with my diabetes rn and I could use some fluff from my favorite strong man🥺
Him
Felix Volturi x Type 1 diabetic reader
A/N: I hope this gives you the fluff you need, and I hope you are doing better 🫶🏼🥺. I might not know what you are going through but I believe in you . I'll be honest Im not super familiar with this but I have some understanding (currently in school going going for a degree in the medical field actually). But enjoy 💙
Tumblr media
(The handsome gentle giant❤️)
“Morning my little rose”
At the sound of my mate's voice, I opened my eyes slowly to be welcomed by his handsome face. He’s so beautiful. He reached a hand out to caress my cheek gently, pure heaven right there with just his touch. I love his gentleness considering how tall and muscular he is it is hard to consider him this with his status as the ‘executor’ of the Volturi, but to me he is so tender and loving.
Still feeling a bit sleepy I responded with a soft “Morning Fe”
He joined me on the bed and pulled me into his arms so my head was resting on his chest. Today was one of those days where I had no energy to do anything. I just want to lay in bed all day and sleep. I sometimes hate feeling like this, I don't like showing Felix this side of me, even if he knows about my diagnosis. I did tell him a bit of what I go through and stuff but it's a struggle sometimes.
“You're having one of those days aren't you?”
I guess he already knows. It's been about 6 months since Felix came into my life and I was told he is my mate. But I have had type 1 for about 2 years already. The only reason he found out was he came to visit me in my house when I was feeling absolutely terrible, he thought I was sick with the flu but I told him the truth. He was very understanding and Demetri told me the next day that Felix spent the whole night reading anything there is to know about how to deal and manage with type 1. And since then my love for him bloomed more.
“Yea it’s one of those days unfortunately”
“Alright well good thing the masters gave me the day off, i'll be your personal nurse today”
Looking up at him with a lopsided smile and booping his nose with my finger tip
“My handsome vampire nurse to exact”
—------------
Since that morning, Felix has helped with taking a nice bubble bath with my favorite bath bomb that smells like roses and lavender. He even made me an appropriate breakfast, he's managed to get me to enjoy eating cantaloupe over the past couple of months. He's still struggling to get me to eat a banana alone because whenever I chew that fruit I gag and there were times where I did throw up from that weird texture. But he does make me smoothies with that fruit which I do enjoy. And now he is pursuing me into going on a walk with him in the gardens
“Come on cara, if you do get tired, which I understand does happen, we will take a break and I will give you a taste of the Felix care package when you're tired, hmmm?”
To top it off he finished that line with his shark like grin that always makes me weak in the knees. It's impossible to say no to him when he mentions his care package, it includes a massage, hair stroking, and small kisses on every inch of exposed skin that I dare show.
“Fine, only because I heard that the garden was worked on recently and there are new flowers that I need to see up close but-”
“I got it here already, see?”
I looked at his other side and he had a bag which I can assume had some treats to help with the fatigue and nausea and in his hand he was holding what I can say is the biggest water bottle I have ever seen.
“What the hell Felix, where did you manage to get such a huge water bottle?”
“I have my ways amore”
He wrapped his large muscular arm around my waist and guided me to the much awaited gardens. As soon as we were close to the gardens I felt myself relax and was surrounded by the smell of different flowers. I picked up on the sweetness of jasminess, the freshness of lavender with a hint of spice which I can assume were the lilies. We walked for a while until I started to feel a bit more weak and my thirst levels increased. Felix as always picked it up and we stopped at a nearby bench that he actually carved many centuries ago. He held the water bottle for me as I drank what I felt was a whole gallon in one sip.
“Want to hear the story about his bench, amore?”
Not wanting to speak or nod my head from the slowly approaching headache, I gave him a thumbs up that was received by a small smile from him
“Well I told you some bits of my gladiator days from what I can remember until Aro found me and turned me in. I picked up a hobby soon after I was turned. I always thought the arts were a fascinating topic, and with Master Caius' influence, I focused on sculpting. My first couple of attempts were not ... .good” he smiled with an  embarrassed look “ With my state of being more abnormally stronger as a newborn handling small tools in my large hands to carve ... .well you can already guess my issue. With this bench it took many attempts to master, I would switch between a variety of chiseling tools until I noticed just using my hands worked best, so I actually built this with my bare hands, I wanted to add a bit of architecture inspiration from the Colosseum, which is why the legs of this are like that.”
The way he explained his story was so adorable, some of the things I picked up about Felix is when he talks about something he is passionate about he gets a twinkle in his eyes. He smiles more than he already does but the way he explains things he went through makes me feel like I was there with him as the events happened. I soon noticed after his story my headache was gone.
“Fe, can I tell you something?”
“Always my little rose”
“I don't tell you this enough but I really do appreciate you, I love that you are in my life, I thought I would become a burden to you but with you, you make me feel so special and loved, I love you my handsome giant”
I never said the L word to him so this was a first for him to hear.
“Oh cara, I think I just fell in love with you all over again, just hearing you say that makes my undead heart flip, with you I feel complete with as what is left my humanity, I love you mi amore”
Damn that giant, some small tears of happiness rolled down my cheeks which he wiped away with his thumb. He leaned in and placed a light kiss on my forehead that can speak thousands of words.

(tw sickness)
i feel like kyle gets stomachaches a lot. he’s got a very weak stomach, even if he can eat like a racehorse, he has to eat in moderation. (Well, that and his diabetes, so he has to be very careful)
but he’s VERY prone to stomachaches. he tries to hide it, but his stomach gets really fucking loud, and tbh i feel like sheila is the kind of parent to know exactly what body language means what, and she’s defo freaking out a bit
he hates vomiting. absolutely hates it. he usually just stays on a water diet, and i did see this headcanon (can’t remember where now) but the reason he hates bananas is because he had an awful, long lasting stomach bug, and the only thing he could eat was bananas. he can’t hold much down, so he just ends up having nothing but water and occasionally like…chicken broth
he never ends up throwing up unless he has a full stomach, he just ends up burping and dry heaving a lot. it’s miserable for him, and half the time he doesn’t even have the energy to get out of bed, so he ends up asking one of his friends for notes from school and stuff.
he gets kinda clingy too? like he sleep cuddles, that’s been a thing i’ve headcankned personally, but i he’s sleeping, he’s got his entire body wrapped around a pillow. cobra style.

want to give your dogs a nice treat, but not sure whats healthy for them? heres a guide to fruits for dogs and what kind of ones are okay or should be avoided!
i love feeding my doggies off cuttings of my meals, especially the ends off fruits that i wont eat, but its good to know the effects of what you're putting in your dogs body. so heres some reaserch ive done, and the kinds of things i give my doggies.
as much as dogs technically dont have a need to eat fruit, they do have some good properties for doggie health. alot of dog food contains fruit because it gives alot of extra nutrients!
definitely NOT dogs safe :
- avacado causes vomiting and diarrhoea even in small amounts
- cherries can cause disruption to oxygen flow, even just a single fruit, and cause poisoning
- grapes or rasins are one of the worst things you can give a dog. they cause liver failure and poisoning so easily
- tomatoes are a risky game. the ripe red fruit is some what okay for dogs but its best to avoid them as a whole as they can be toxic. there are dog safe tomatoe treat alternative!
good in small amounts :
- bananas are full of vitamins, though high in sugar so good in small amounts
- cantaloupe is great for hydration, especially in the summer, though abit sugary
- cranberries are the same as cantaloupe, good hydration, abit sugary
- mangos are vitamin heavy though abit sugary for already chunky doggos. remember to remove the pit
- oranges are great, especially the peel of the fruit, though many dogs dont enjoy citrus at all and might be a little rough on the digestive system in large amounts
- peaches are high in vitamins and great in small chunks. too much can cause the same effects as cherries, so leave them as a nice little treat
- pears are super good. avoid tinned pears, only use the fresh fruit, and cut away the pit and seeds. but very good vitamins and potassium!
- pineapple helps break down proteins and is super good! avoid the skin, and similarly to pears, non fresh fruit pineapples are too high in sugar, its best to use it fresh!
- raspberries are an antitoxin that have anti-inflamitory properties! though in large amounts over about 8 ounces can be toxic.
- strawberries are great for helping whitening dogs teath and for overall oral health, though in moderation with how much sugar they have
the best ones :
- apples (removing the core and seeds) are high in vitamin A, C and fibre!
- blueberries are a huge antitoxin and promote cell reproduction even in large amounts!
- cucumbers are amazing treats, great amount of vitamins with little to no calories or fats. hugely recommended for chunkier dogs or diabetic pups that need a less sugary treat
- pumpkin in pure form is a great antitoxin that helps dogs with diarrhoea or upset stomachs! if you're getting canned pumpkin, make sure it has no added ingredients!
- watermelon, like cucumber, is great for hydration. remove the rine and seeds first, and you're good to go. lots of vitamins and potassium in a low calorie way!
low calories and sugar, specific for overweight doggos or diabetic pups :
- apples
- blueberries
- cucumber
- raspberries
- watermelon
good fruit for sick or old dogs that need some extra body help :
- apples (high in vitamins, low in calories)
- blueberries (antitoxin and cell regrowth)
- pineapple (helps digestion)
- pumpkin (antitoxin, helps cure stomach bugs, diarrhoea and constipation)
- raspberries (anti-inflammatory, helps with joints)
- strawberries (white teeth, oral health)
not every dog likes every fruit, its good to try it. if a fruit is high sugar, that doesnt mean its bad for you, bad in large amounts but a great treat that packs some good vitamins for your dogs!
i feed my dogs lots of fruits, as treats, as a nice summer cool down, to fix a stomach bug, or just because i have some left over!
fruit is great for your dogs, aslong as you know whats good and whats not, its always best to google the food before you give it to them. its safe to be mindful of what you put in your dogs body the same way we are mindful about what goes into ours!

I have had a shitty week. Can someone manifest me some good vibes?
Sunday started nice. Monday was a holiday (Family Day) so I got some extra weekend. I was looking forward to it - then Elder Child crawled into my bed just past midnight with a fever.
Monday she stopped eating after lunch (two bites of banana), but was drinking water.
Stayed home Tuesday to help her combat the fever. Wednesday morning she had no fever so my daycare lady was able to take her and I went to work. She kept me updated etc all day.
My gut didn’t like how much she was sleeping so after work I decided to take Elder Child to the children’s hospital. Convinced my husband to pack me a bag, thinking they’d throw Tylenol at us and we’d sit in the waiting room for 8 hours to be told it’s an ear infection/sinus infection…. But I got home to her and her fever returned. (And my period started. JOY.)
Loaded her into the stroller, threw myself in, and off we went! Waited in line at triage.
Triage called us, we weighed her, we talked. And I said I was concerned because she hadn’t eaten, the fever was back, my sister was diabetic and I was starting to worry because when she was sleeping I couldn’t rouse her easily, and her breath smelled and basically asked them to check her blood sugar.
So they did. (This was NOT an enjoyable experience for Elder Child.) it was at 2 - new to how Canadians measure shit, I’m really glad the little screen added in red: “CRITICAL LOW”.
The nurse made a phone call and stressed, surprised, that Elder Child was alert.
Upon the second attempt at a reading because it was low, Elder Child was more prepared. She kicked, she fought, she puked all over herself, and bolted for the emerge doors.
Ok. Skip a second test. (Note: I did not pack spare clothes.)
We were taken right back to a room in the emergency wing. Unsettling.
Then a flurry of people - a lady trying to help Elder Child adjust and calm down. Nurses. Doctors asking questions. (Another note - I have not slept well in 2 weeks, am hearing impaired, and now overwhelmed and scared. Not a good combo.)
Gave Elder Child a nasal spray to calm her (this resulted in another bolting for freedom, also thwarted), another blood check….and once the spray started to work, we tried to prep her for an IV/blood draw.
This was ALSO strongly disliked. More holding her down. I did a lot of crying.
We went through the symptoms - tummy hurting, drinking some water but hadn’t peed in like 6-7 hours, fever, sleeping constantly, not eating. Ended up doing ultrasound, X-ray. Ten bottles of blood (and she FREAKED). Finally got her to pee. Yes, she peed on me.
Refused food. Refused popsicles. Refused juice. Started IV - first sugar bolus. Then hydration. We named the IV robot Frank. Elder Child, loopy from the spray, patted it and told it it was doing a good job. Also, during our walk to ultrasound, said she was Frank’s pet puppy and he was taking her for a walk, see her leash? 😅
Spent the night. (Another note: my daycare kept her sister until bedtime. And we arranged to take her as soon as she woke up because we cannot trust my husband with her care.) Lots more holding her down and blood checks.
Also please note: Elder Dragoon wails and screams when distressed. She was very distressed. I felt really sorry for the staff because I couldn’t calm her.
In the morning she managed to eat a bit! Yay! Tried to disconnect the iv - sugar went down. Hooked her back up. Spent the day trying to get her to drink 100ml of apple juice.
Ended up discharged at almost 4pm - diagnosis: fever, causing hypoglycemia. Apparently kids don’t have as much stores as adults and the fever was burning through what she DID have.
So I spent today waking her every 4 hours and getting her to eat or drink. It took her an hour to drink half a juice box. But by dinner today she was improved and actually had food. And accepted popsicles.
Still have to get her eating or drinking again in about 20min. Then set the timer back.
I just want a full REM cycle of sleep. I am SO fucking tired.

fav hc is that wukong has thousands of hobbies but baking/cooking are not any of them because he's afraid of the stove and cant read instructions
He's probably scared of the smoke and fire of the stove, not the object or the hobby itself, plus it happened multiple times he ended up blind because of the smoke, even if a small one, bet.
And, he doesn't think he needs it! He doesn't even eat cooked food, and he's a monkey. Most of the human food is off limits for him, he can get diabetes from a banana for Buddha's sake! Imagine eating a cake!
so, he never looked into it.
He knows how to draw, and likes it too, he loves painting random stuff, sometimes he paints his friends because he's afraid of forgetting their faces.
He likes playing videogames, he even made one.
He likes listening to music, his favorite thing to do when painting, it helps him concentrate (he definitely listens to marina.)
he likes writing, he himself likes writing fics about random things, he likes hiking, he likes walking, he likes helping animals, he likes helping people. Sometimes he disguises as a doctor because he finds fun doing surgery, and always succeeds.
He likes learning math, he likes learning chemistry, he likes learning biology, he's a science guy, he has even a medical degree!
he likes to illustrate, he likes to dig up bones and figure out again history and remember it, he likes inventing things, stylist his hair and clothes, likes to color his hair, likes to make clothes himself.
But cook? Nah.
he either eats fruits, which are good for him, hair food in the firm of normal things like cake or pastries since he can't eat too much sugar because of diabetes, but he likes ordering stuff too.
Noodles are his favorite, he always orders from pigsy (secretly because pigsy reminds him so bad of bajie, he isn't even sure it's his reincarnation.)
sometimes he buys vegetarian food, like meatballs but in a form that even vegetarians can eat, so he can try and do some special meals from other cultures.
Italian, Spanish, french, german, English, and so much more.
he always..has to go directly to the country itself to try them out though.
but that's fine, he has fun visiting places, he had nothing to do for 500 years.
But in the end, he never learned how to cook.
But knows everything else. Even acient Greek and Latin. But cooking? HAHAHAHAHHA

normalize being supportive of your loved ones dietary needs, especially if you cook or eat together.
This is what my family does.
Find out you have Celiac? great, let's clear out a cupboard just for your food. We can get you a toaster that doesn't have crumbs in it, it'll just be for your GF bread. We'll cook the evening meal as entirely gluten free. Done!
You are allergic to a lot of foods, and have reactions? We will take you to an allergist, and if we go out to eat and forget to mention an allergy that might be important, we will gently remind you to say it.
on a diet? Okay. We can try not to bring as many sweets home, and we will ask you before you get you coffee or food that you may not be eating right now.
Heart issues? No problem. We will season without salt, and we'll shop for meats that are less fatty.
My point is, no diet is perfect for everyone, and we all have needs and it's nice to try and help people you regularly eat with feel safe. Educate yourself! Buy cookbooks! Research restaurants before you go!
Oddly enough, the more changes you make, the easier it gets to not be bothered by it. If we can make an entire dinner gluten free, night after night for years, we can make it safer for someone that's had a heart conditions, or safer for a diabetic. No guarantees in life, but it's worth it. I'm not on a low sodium diet, because my levels are fine, and I can eat gluten but you better believe I will still make gluten free, low sodium meals when I cook for all of us. I can go out and eat a big things of chips, and regular bread, but not everyone has that luxury, so it's good to be tactful.
I know it sucks to make changes. I myself very much miss avocados and bananas but that doesn't make them swell my lips up any less.
I am honestly really proud of my families willingness to make culinary changes as our health changes. It makes me feel happy to know that if my sister were to order me a burger without me and for me she'd know what to tell them to please leave off. She would understand the risk of ordering it too, and I know what to ask about for her too.
Love is not just affection. It is actively showing you care about someone's well being, and yes that includes food.

Diarrhea – (not only) an unpleasant travel companion
Sun, sand, and sea – it would be so wonderful if it weren’t for diarrhea. Diarrhea is the most common illness when traveling. Bacterial infections are most likely the trigger. For healthy adults, these infections are usually harmless and disappear after a short time, even without treatment. Severe diarrhea, which is accompanied by severe water loss, is rare and particularly dangerous for babies, toddlers, pregnant women, diabetics and elderly people.
If you have only soft stools, you don’t have to worry. However, if you have to go to the toilet more often than three times a day, or when the stool is very watery and the overall amount has increased then these are symptoms of mild to moderate diarrhea. If there is no improvement after two to three days or the diarrhea is very severe, you should consult a doctor.
Our travel tips – how you can treat mild diarrhea yourself while traveling:
Drink plenty of fluids (at least 3 – 4 liters per day) with salts (electrolytes).
Adults with diarrhea can prepare an electrolyte solution for themselves:
Dissolve ½ teaspoon salt and 5 teaspoons sugar in 0.5 l boiled water, flavor with orange juice.
(Please note this is not suitable for children under 5 years old!)
For children under 5 years of age you can obtain special electrolyte solutions in the pharmacy.
Salt can also be consumed in the form of clear, salted soup or broth.
Bananas and apricots are rich in potassium, which is one of the most important electrolytes.
After the first few days of an acute diarrhea illness, you should try to consume products that contain little or no milk.
Eat normally as soon as you start to feel better with an increased appetite.
Medication for acute diarrhea is only useful in some cases, e. g. to slow down dangerous water loss or to survive a long bus journey.
Colas and pretzel sticks are not a suitable treatment for rehydration and salt intake.
Gentle colon cleansing with psyllium seeds act like a mild swelling and intestinal lubricant. They cleanse the intestines of putrefactive substances and intestinal gases and promote the growth of intestinal-friendly bacteria. Psyllium seeds are known as well tolerated.
In case of severe diarrhea, you should definitely consult a doctor.
Note: If you suffer from frequent diarrhea, this could be caused by food intolerances and allergies, e.g. lactose, fructose or histamine intolerance. In this case, we recommend that you get in contact with your health care practitioner (HCP) for further consultation. If these intolerances are not responsible for your diarrhea, the cause may be an IgG food hypersensitivity. IgG food hypersensitivities often remain undetected because the symptoms only occur a few hours or even days after the consumption of a trigger food. This makes them extremely difficult to identify. Fortunately, a reliable diagnostic test and nutritional concept can help: ImuPro. Find out more about the ImuPro test without obligation.
