the last true poets of the sea by julia drake.
Survival was its own quest: we needed to choose to survive over and over again. We had to wash up on shore, and we had to choose to keep washing up every single day. We had to let the survival accrue, pebble after pebble, building a beach from a million tiny moments until suddenly we stopped, looked around, and thought, on a Saturday in Maine, I'm glad we're here.

In light of discovering that today is Bi Visibility Day I just wanted to chuck out a couple of book recommendations in case anyone is looking for some bi rep in their TBR
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
- let's get the big one out of the way first. The book follows Evelyn Hugo, one of Hollywood's most famous actresses for more than half a century, as she tells her incredible life story to an up and coming young reporter... with the big question being - with seven husbands to choose from, who was the true love of Evelyn's life? I flew through this book y'all, its not even a genre I generally read but I genuinely couldn't put it down lol.
Felix Ever After by Kacen Callender
- We follow our boy Felix as he seeks out love and his place in a world he feels marginalised from. Being black, queer, trans, and desperate for his first love, he finds himself in a complicated web of unhealthy relationships and poor choices as he enacts his plan for revenge on his online abusers. Not gonna lie, this was a haaaard read for me. You just want Felix to be happy and watching him go through the ringer and make some terrible choices along the way is a trial lol. I would highly recommend seeking out the trigger warnings for anyone who has issues with identity, from dead naming to catfishing, this book has a lot of hurt in it.
Ghost Wood Song by Erica Waters
- a YA southern gothic that follows our girl Shady Grove. Sad, poor, and desperately in love with her best friend, all Shady wants to do is play her music, but when her brother is accused of murder she believes the only way to prove his innocence is to use her music to call up the ghosts to learn the truth, just like her daddy used to, as she follows him down the path that may have led him to his early grave. Absolutely chock full of bi pining.
Dowry of Blood by S. T. Gibson
- the story of Constanta, Dracula's first wife. What happens when the person you love is capable of terrible things, and where will you find comfort? It's only 250 pages, it's a dreamy and atmospheric story about obsession and finding yourself and everyone is bi. Excellent times to be had by everyone.
The Last True Poets of the Sea by Julia Drake
- we follow our girl Violet as she's sent to stay with her uncle after her younger brother's attempted suicide. Wracked with complicated guilt and grief, and at a crossroads between who she was and who she wants to be, she finds herself a group of friends who help her along her path of self-discovery as she becomes fixated on the idea of solving a centuries old family mystery. Just a lovely book that left me all misty-eyed in places, and it has an *actual* love triangle rather than just having two love interests which is shockingly rare lol

Quick Review: The Last True Poets of the Sea by Julia Drake Rating: 4/5
“Know it once and for all: wrecks, not discoveries, are in your blood.”
A beautiful, quiet story about an anxious girl trying to deal with almost losing her twin brother by hunting for a lost shipwreck. Violet was more chaotic and messy than a lot of YA heroines which I loved and it was exciting seeing her grow over the course of the novel. Her romance with Liv is lovely but the way she heals her relationship with her brother is the best part.
If you like seaside stories or Shakespeare retellings that don't hammer on about being Shakespeare retellings, definitely check this out.
Warnings: anxiety, panic attacks, mild sex scenes, references to drug use, a suicide attempt and an eating disorder.

thinking about how Violet saw Liv slap a mosquito on Orion's leg and realised she wanted that. someone to realise she was being bitten by a mosquito before she herself did.

Have you seen the tiktok going around that's a guy talking to his kids like "The more you sass me, the more I'm gonna flirt with your mother!" That but it's Bruce threatening to leave his comms on deliberately when he's around Selina if the baby bats don't start behaving themselves on patrol.
Bruce: The more you sass me, the more I'm gonna flirt with your parents.
Dick: Jokes on you, I'm an orphan.
Bruce: Alright then.
Bruce: *flirts with Commissioner Gordon*
Bruce: *flirts with Barry*
Bruce: *goes to space*
Bruce: *flirts with Luand'r*
Dick: STOP THOSE ARE MY IN-LAWS!
———————
Cass: *blinks*
Bruce: That's it. I've had it with your attitude.
Bruce: *goes out with Lady Shiva*
———————
Bruce: *walks in with a bouquet of flowers*
Luke: Uh... what's all this for?
Bruce: Remember the other week when you called my prototype strobe light batarang stupid?
Luke: ...Because it is?
Bruce: Well, guess what?
Bruce: *gives the flowers to Lucius*
———————
Jason: And what if I don't? What are you gonna do, let me die again?
Bruce: No.
Bruce: *opens Grindr*
Jason: You wouldn't.
Bruce: Oh yes I would.
Bruce: *slides into Ollie's DMs*
———————
Tim: It's a good thing I never introduced you to Bernard's family.
Bruce: I could always look them up in the phone book.
Tim: What year are you living in?
Bruce: I'm just kidding. I'll be back in an hour. Hold down the fort for me, m'kay buddy?
Tim: Yeah, sure.
[an hour later]
Bruce: *walks in holding hands with Lex Luthor and Max Mercury*
Tim: What the...?
Bruce: I still know your best friends' parents.
Lex: This is what you handcuffed me for?
Bruce: Shush, I'm making a point.
———————
Bruce: We go in on my signal.
Steph: This is my dad we're talking about. I'm not gonna sit around and risk him getting away.
Steph: *swings onto the scene*
Bruce: *follows her*
Steph: Stop right there, Cluemaster—BATMAN WHAT THE FUCK?!?
Bruce: *sweeps Arthur off his feet*
———————
Bruce: *lecturing Damian*
Damian: Tt.
Bruce: One second.
Bruce: *pulls out his phone*
Bruce: Hey Talia, I was wondering if you had dinner plans tonight?....Yes, Damian is misbehaving again.....7:30? Perfect!
———————
Duke: You've never met my friends' or girlfriend's parents and Jokerized people can't consent, so...
Bruce: *turns on the computer*
Bruce: *emails the immortal entity Gnomon*
Bruce: *gets a reply*
Bruce: Alfred, fetch my tux.
———————
The voice in Bruce's head: *says mean things*
Bruce: Oh yeah? Well how do you like THIS?
Bruce: *proposes to Selina*
———————
Holly: *flips him off*
Bruce: *proposes to Selina*
Selina: Again? That's the second time today.
———————
Julia: You're nothing a bloody angst-addled egotistical baby twat!
Bruce: *looks at her*
Bruce: *looks at Alfred*
Bruce: This isn't gonna work.
