Another story of Neglect
Tumblr media
You were another one of Bruce's children, born by one of his nightstands with a model to which he just gave child support and didn't really visit.
You never cared, you didn't even know that he was your father since you were happy with just your mom and the life you were living at the moment, but everything changed because of a stupid drunk driver that ended up crashing the car against your mom's one and killing both of them at the impact. You were only 12 and your life just changed in one night.
You had no one else, or at least no one that could take you in since everyone was busy or couldn't be bothered to have another mouth to feed so you ended up in front of Wayne's Manor, two suitcases full of stuff plus all the boxes from your old room and house that you managed to save from the relatives who tried to grab everything valuable in the house.
After getting in your room and setting everything up, making sure your photos with your mom and you were safe and sound, you tried to interact with your new family, wanting to make the best out of a bad situation but you didn't think that they would be so different from what you saw in the media.
•Bruce Wayne: you heard that he was a playboy but very nice to his kids, you saw how he looked at Damian or Dick, a look full of love and adoration that your mom used to give it to you.
But to you, he looked at you like you were just a nuisance that wasn't supposed to be here, he made sure to tell you the first day that you came here to not expect much since he wouldn't have the time to take care of every small needs and to just tell him or Alfred if you wanted to do something out of the school activities since you would be changing schools.
You tried to interact with him, to learn from what he likes so you could just try and hold a conversation with him but he always left you behind for another one of his kids that needed him at the moment, leaving you there with a small smile and just a small light of hope that maybe he will come back to talk to you.
But he never did.
•Richard/Dick Grayson: you thought he was the nicest big brother you ever seen, especially from what you saw him talking or playing with Damian, Tim or even Jason.
(You did find out pretty soon that they were the famous vigilantes since they didn't really keep it hidden from you, especially since you saw them in costumes and even training while they ignored you or didn't even notice your presence.)
You tried to talk to him but he was just like Bruce, leaving you for Damian mostly or using any excuse to not spend time with you.
Even when you tried to ask him to do some acrobatics since you knew he was from the circus, he just gave you an excuse 'sorry but it's been a while since Damian and Tim saw me and I wanted to go out with them, maybe next time (wrong/name)", leaving you before you even had the time to correct him about your name.
•Jason Todd: honestly he was the most decent family member, second to Alfred who treated you better whenever you were left alone, since he just straight up told you that he didn't care and to not bother with him.
You did try a few more times, thinking he was one with a tough exterior but a softie inside, thinking that he just needed time but him accidentally punching you in the face and leaving you with a black eye from you walking up behind him made you understand that he didn't care, especially with the way that he looked at you with an annoyed expression before walking away.
At least you didn't have to spend months trying to gain his favor, he already made it clear that he didn't care about you.
But it still hurts you know?
• Tim Drake: he was the only one you couldn't really put a pin on who he really is, not of some double life or something like that.
It's just that sometimes he would act nice, talking to you but the next time you would see him, even if the time passed between the two intervals could be of 1 hour, he would act like you were an annoying thing or would just ignore you.
You understood that he was sleep deprived and just started leaving him some candies that could help him sleep, wanting to help in a small way, especially since he was the only one you could actually help a little.
And the last, but especially the worst one was none other than Damian Wayne/al Ghul since he first acted like you were gonna steal something from him, especially considered that you were a year or two older than him.
He harassed you, using his animals or just his assassin skills to torment you for years even though you never gave him reasons to do so.
Not more than once you had to patch yourself in the bathroom because of his harassment, the scars still visible but luckily in places you could hide so no one would question you for them.
After two or three years he finally stopped and went to be one of the family members to give you attention to completely ignore your existence, acting like you weren't even someone worthy of his attention.
You always wanted to just hit him back but it would be relatively impossible to even try to land a hit on him because of his assassin training that he had.
But one thing you still had that connected you to your old life, to when you were happy and still with someone who loved you was dancing, which you still went to practice everyday and tried to invite your family but everyone was either busy or straight up told you that they didn't care.
Only Alfred would show up but it was also rare, but it would fill your heart with joy everytime you saw him in the audience of whatever ballet you were casted in, even if you weren't the main protagonist and just a side character.
You also tried to be the best in school, just to show it to Bruce and make him proud like your mother was whenever you were in the top but with a family filled with geniuses like Tim Drake and Damian Wayne, it was difficult to even compare to them.
But every day, you still had hope that maybe, if you opened the doors of your heart they will finally enter and make you part of the family.
That you can finally be accepted again, and maybe even join them in their vigilante jobs but alas, they always had excuses, excuses and even more excuses.
You were getting tired of all their excuses.
After a while you understand that maybe the problem is not you, it never was.
You opened up many times in the past years. You gave them every piece of your broken heart to hold but they would always break it in even more little pieces.
But, not everything always goes to plan does it?
So, instead of continuing to try, you also decided to ignore them back and live your life, counting the days of your eighteen birthday so you could finally get out and be free from the mansion you were supposed to call home.
Part 2 is here!

Lady's, gentlemen, and everyone in between or totally outside of that,
Here's the beginning of a new series of post (cause I'm bored in class and think of hc)
Anyway, let's start.
Cassandra is the official baby of the Batfam. (even Bruce 'I don't have a favorite child' Wayne would admit it if she asked)
Damian is the logical baby. (he's the youngest and smallest) Most members would never admit how protective of him they are (but he's their baby brother, do not approach he bites)
Duke is the media's favorite (being the newest and most awkward) (basically he's most likely to reveal dumb secrets about the Wayne by accidents)
Jason is Alfred and Dick's baby.
But Dick? Heh. He's The baby™. The chosen one. He doesn't know it. He's the reason Bruce is reserved about letting them go trick or treats on Halloween (he'd eat poison candy. They're still candy.)

how are you? How you're doing well. I was wondering what yandere bruce wayne woild be like to his s/o and kid they had together? Would he treat them differently than the other family, would he be protective etc? Personally I think his tendencies would be ×2 if the kid looked like his s/o
oh and how would the batfam be? (Jason, dick, tim, damian)
A baby from his beloved SO!
Tumblr media
(This is just a refference of OS and Bruce’s baby, a baby and daddy time)
I would say that, indeed, this child would be loved. Really love and wanted, at least by Bruce. (TW: he replace SO’s natality control pills)
Mind you, Bruce loves all his children equally, he really does! And definitely that his new offspring would have shared ties with the reader would just be the icing on the cake; Bruce would love his reader's baby even if it didn't have his genes running through its veins.
Would his yandere tendencies apply to the baby? At the moment I think he'd be looking to tap into all those facets that he missed out on with his other children.
Sure, adopted kids are loved and wanted, but Bruce never changed Dick's nappies, or made Jason's lunch airplane, Tim never experienced the first day of school with Bruce. He adores them with a passion and would sacrifice himself for them, he knows it and so do his kids; that's more than enough. But, as I said, they couldn't experience the things that a baby or a child could with him.
With Damian, as much as he is his son by blood he was denied several things; firstly, if it wasn't for Ras's disappearance and Thalia's need to seize power, Bruce would never have found out about Damian. So he could never exercise full parternship with him. Sure, he's grateful that Damian came into his life as a child, but after that, he really wonders a lot of things about early childhood and his time as a baby.
So, from what you can speculate, he would go crazy with love when he sees the whole pregnancy process. He'd take his wife to all the best doctors' appointments, make the room next to him the baby's new nursery, massages and stretch mark creams would be his favourite job of the day, plus he'd be grabbing the baby bump every chance he gets.
Av ery Obssessive father and husband, always watching SO and their belly. So would never ever have a chance againf to be alone. NEVER.
He would be the kind of parent who would interrupt half a chase to go out of his way, buy his SO's craving, and ask one of his children to relieve him so that he could go and give his SO his craving of the moment. No matter how weird it is.
He would cry more than his SO when it's time to buy clothes or look at toys. All Superman and Green Lantern themed, but his SO seemed happy with those cute little pyjamas and stuffed animals with that theme. Sure, he snuck a Batman pillow or two in there, but he wouldn't go against his partner's wishes.
He gets excited at every ultrasound, and his social media accounts would be filled with every new ultrasound during those 9 months. He would even build a new maternity ward and donate millions to underprivileged mothers and children, just because his SO (who by then has Stockholm Syndrome) wanted other mothers to have a safe and secure motherhood.
He wants to make sure he has all the experiences he could never have with his other children, the baby showers, the gender reveal, the name discussions, the nursery decorations, the laundry sorting.
It's something his SO gave him, something he never thought he could experience. Is what he's doing not enough? For him yes, it is little and he would give more if he didn't know that his SO is now tired from the weight of the baby and the hormones are making her uncomfortable.
Now, the baby is born, would Bruce act differently?
Partly yes, a baby is really hard work, and he doesn't want his SO to feel burdened or abandoned with the baby's upbringing. No.
Bruce would spend as much time as he can and make time in his schedule to make parenting a 50/50 split if possible.
His other children understand that, they really do. Dick occasionally jokes that this baby could be his son and doesn't refuse to babysit or replace his father as batman if he sees that he and his stepmother are exhausted.
Jason would manage to keep things in the crime world pretty quiet and calm, just because he knows how fucked up it is to have to balance his adult life and taking care of his new baby brother. How will he take the baby out on his pram ride when the whole city is destroyed?
Tim wouldn't hesitate to do some stock market shopping to secure an emergency mattress for his new baby. That, and he's created a detailed list of the best preschools and has a background check on every single person with a teaching degree in the city. Only the best of the best for your new baby brother.
And Damian, Damian loves being a big brother, when the baby was born he wouldn't stop thanking the SO for giving him the best gift in the universe, he would sing cute and cuddly songs in Arabic to calm the baby and take him to play with his pets so he could feel at one with nature. Always like an alcon watching over and protecting.
They do not feel any kinf of jealousy or anything similar. Of course Damian would be a bit upset because he cannot sleepclose tou you or Bruce, but, he and his older brothers understnd that a baby needs more attention and care. They also loves the baby alot!!!
And Bruce? I can feel him relaxing a bit, I mean, he's already tied his SO to his and his family's side for good. Now, that he might secretly break his own moral code, to ensure the safety of you and his growing family…those are details no one should know.

Wayne Vs Fenton 3
start of the madness
pls note I'm putting these numbers in as "what I have written." They're not gonna necessarily be in order. I hope to make a full fic to put on AO3. In the interim, here's stuff I wrote in general as it strikes me in the moment. This bit is from Tim's perspective after Damian and Danny Are Friends become a known quantity in the Wayne household. ~*~
Damian making friends didn’t make sense. Everyone else felt complacent in simply accepting it. Tim wasn’t. Considering his upbringing, autonomous socializing wasn’t part of Damian’s personality. Nor was how calm and patient the former assassin child became with all of his siblings, Tim included. Damian himself insisted he and this “Danny” were friends. Hell, Damian even called the kid by a nickname. Not his last name, not “Daniel.” His actual, preferred nickname. Tim was suspicious and instantly began investigating. Daniel “Danny” Fenton, age 15, moved to Gotham two months ago from Amity Park, Illinois with his godfather and temporary guardian, Vlad Masters, former mayor of Amity Park, head of Vladco Industries, and heir to Wisconsin’s Self Proclaimed Dairy King’s fortune. Child of Jack and Madeline Fenton, doctors of something called ectobiology, former college classmates of Vlad Masters, and founders of FentonWorks, a cottage research facility that developed antighost (Ghosts? Really?) weaponry and equipment. Brother of Jasmine Fenton, currently a student of Yale in their psychology undergraduate program, and already a shoe-in for the Dean’s list. Honestly, of all the people related to him, Danny ended up being the least interesting. Middling grades that dropped in high school along with attendance. That was probably what led to his coming to Gotham. A set of brilliant - if evidentially weird - parents and a rich and involved godfather doing what they could to help their faltering son to succeed by sending him to one of the top schools on the east coast. There was evidence that Amity Park itself had some apparently minor meta vigilante protecting it, but searches for “Phantom” turned up nothing in the Justice League’s database, suggesting whomever this was might be an actual ghost like Deadman and, thus, restricted to access by those with JLD clearance. Tim put aside that issue for later. He could just ask B for privileges later. Besides, the only information he found on this vigilante was on a few amateur fansites and local papers. No major news sites or government listings. It couldn’t be anything major. His focus remained on Daniel Fenton. Except, even when looking into the kid’s socials, there wasn’t anything interesting. He had a couple friends back in Amity, the most interesting of the two was Samantha Mason of the Mason family, though Tim already knew of her from various socialite dinners she looked ready to burn to the ground, pink and lacey dress or not. Her social media was full of activism, conservation movements, and calls for both veganism and something called ultra recycle vegetarianism. Tucker came from an average family of upper middle class parents, nothing odd there, though his social media showed his love of technology and ancient Egypt. Nothing strange there. Danny’s social media, besides his friends, included links to Nasa, occasional rambles about high school life, and, for some reason, a dog photoshopped to look green. From the replies of his few followers, it was an inside joke since they all cooed over the dog and didn’t comment on the green. Again, nothing strange. Even the one time he managed to hack into Damian’s phone to see his messages yielded nothing. He and Danny would meet for what Danny called “playdates.” For some reason, Damian played along with a name Tim knew he’d scoff as childish and beneath him. Even that would be innocuous. One or the other would suggest meeting at various parks, arcades, even the observatory, negotiating dates and times, and that was it.
Danny was a normal kid. Damian was a born and bred assassin. Why in the actual fuck were these two friends? Nothing made sense. Everyone else was happy to ignore it because of the peace the irrationality before them instilled. Tim wouldn’t become complacent. Whatever Danny was hiding, he’d find it.

Dead Little Bird
Word count: 4,078 words
Centric: Bruce Wayne & Jason Todd (father/son relation)
Trigger warnings: canon typical violence, canon typical death
Summary: which Bruce isn't Batman, but his children are still Robins.
Bruce was familiar with the "Robin" codename so many kids used to fight crime on their own. He already has met Dick Grayson, the little acrobatic orphan, so determined to protect the kids from bullies.
Dick was sometimes aggressive, Bruce couldn't say the contrary. He was surprised by how violently Robin beat the Wayne's kidnappers. Bruce couldn't blame him, that kid was an orphan, he needed to unleash his anger on something.
Many people didn't know how the famous billionaire playboy had soft spots for kids, especially orphans. After all, he was an orphan himself.
No one suspected a thing when the great Philanthropist adopted such a "poor helpless kid" like the little Grayson. It was funny how people theorized that the new Wayne was actually dating the mysterious Robin.
And still no one suspected when a new vigilante appeared on Bludhaven the same time the young Wayne moved away. Bruce was "alone" again. Even if he had Alfred, he missed his little Robin, but he was still proud of his Nightwing.
Then, there was a new kid. A new Robin. Such a bright smile and a great attitude, along with a fighting style obviously coming from the streets. The first time they met, he said to Bruce:
"Am I your new bodyguard now, old man?"
Wayne's memory of that day was clear as crystal, he remembers the boy headbutted one of the billionaire's kidnappers when saying that. That kid had a spark on his eyes, the spark Bruce already saw, on himself.
When the new Robin appeared in Bruce's life, the media joked about the philanthropist being a magnet to the vigilante children. And well, they weren't exactly wrong.
Besides Dick quickly revealing his identity to Bruce, it wasn't the same situation with the new kid. He even asked Alfred to do a research in all Gotham City's orphanages to find out more about the boy, but there was nothing, there was no one who looked like the new Robin. Bruce forgot the kid wasn't like Grayson, maybe he had parents, but would they really let a twelve-years-old fight crime?
Wayne offered the boy a decent Robin uniform, hence the kid's one was just dirty and fragile clothes that wouldn't help him fight crime. But the kid refused without thinking twice.
"I don't need your charity, old man. I know how to take care of myself."
The various scars on the kid's body proved he was lying. Even with the optimistic attitude and strength, there was still a truth: no Robin lasts too long.
Grayson was quite lucky, he became popular, he had support, he had Bruce. Dick was one of the only Robins who could grow up to be a better hero. It wasn't rare to see in the news about the police finding a body of a kid wearing red and green with a poorly sewed R brand.
And Bruce didn't want to see such a determined kid dead. But one night, he was just leaving a party, when he saw the kid fighting some thugs like always, but the boy obviously didn't have any advantage. Wayne's bodyguards got into action as he ordered, helping the little boy to win the fight.
But he was already unconscious. His small body was completely bruised, a reminder of a child who's already a soldier. It was unfair of a kid fighting against grown adults.
"Sir, he's still breathing."
So Bruce brought him home. It surprised Alfred to see him carrying a child in his arms again, he hadn't seen a scene like that since Dick had grown up.
When Grayson paid a visit in the next morning, he didn't expect to see a new Robin kid at the Wayne Manor. The butler told him about the last night, about how Bruce found him barely alive.
And the little boy was surprised when he woke up in a strange bed, in a strange room, with the billionaire old man he liked to provoke.
"Uhh, do you collect children or something?"
It was the first thing he said to Bruce when he woke up. He was still wearing his bloody clothes, but there was Dick's old clothes on the nightstand for him.
"Wasn't I supposed to be your bodyguard, old man? Not the contrary."
He tried to get off of the bed, but even after Alfred taking care of his wounds, it still hurt. Then, he just leaned back with his arms crossed over his chest. His temper was obviously different from Dick's, and he was way more stubborn.
"What's your name, kid?"
Bruce asked once again, even if everytime the answer was the same.
"None of your business."
And the boy wouldn't change his reply so easily.
"Listen to me, I really need your name, and your parents' phone number, they must be worried about you."
For some reason, that made the kid chuckle like it was a really bad joke.
"I'm Jason. Jason Todd. And my parents aren't exactly available, y'know?"
"... What do you mean?"
Bruce already expected an answer coming from Jason. But if he really was an orphan, why Alfred didn't find anything about him while searching?
"Well, old man, my parents are pretty much dead."
"But, but… I made searches about you, you aren't in any orphanage or foster system. Is there anyone who's taking care of you?"
"As I said before, I can take care of myself, old man."
"But you're a child."
"Wrong, I'm a Robin."
Bruce pinched the bridge of his nose, not even Grayson was that stubborn, but still, he wasn't Grayson, he was Todd.
"Why were you fighting so many people? They were double your size and clearly on advantage against you."
"They were stopping me from reaching my goal."
"And what is it?"
For a moment, Jason looked at him like what he truly was, a lost kid. Then, he looked away, almost like he was holding his tears, hiding them from Bruce and himself. He needed to be strong, like a real Robin.
"It doesn't matter, alright? Thanks for saving me or whatever, but I can just go now."
"Where do you live?"
"What are you? A stalker?"
Jason replied quickly, being extremely defensive.
"Jason, you said your parents are dead, where do you live? And with who?"
"Nowhere, and with no one. I'm no one's son."
"You're a kid, you can't just live on the streets."
Bruce said, his voice getting more soft as he tried to gain Jason's trust.
"Am I your new charity project, old man? Will you adopt me just like you did with the other Robin?"
Dick was spying the conversation through the slightly open door, but he backed away when Jason mentioned him. The boy was smart enough to connect the dots between Dick Grayson-Wayne and the acrobatic boy wonder.
"Listen to me, Jason. You at least need a place to live, and I need to compensate for the times you saved me."
"I don't need your help."
Jason tried to get out of the bed once again, but his body was shaking, still weak. He looked like a helpless kid, and he hated that.
"Jason, please, at least let me pay you a place to live. I know being Robin doesn't pay you."
"... Fine. But remember, you're not my father, and I'm not your trophy son."
==========
Kids were supposed to be easy to deal with. But as Jason stated various times, he wasn't a kid, he was a Robin, and being Robin gave him magic.
Both Alfred and Dick were surprised when Bruce told them he bought an apartment for a "random kid". Jason wasn't a random kid to him… Even if they weren't actually close to each other.
There was a kind of new routine in the Wayne Manor, at least once a week the little Robin came to ask Alfred to help him with the worst wounds he got and couldn't patch them himself. And sometimes he also came to return Bruce back to safety after another attempt of criminals to kidnap Bruce.
"You need to learn how to take care of yourself, old man."
Jason joked, wiping the blood out of his nose, he smiled, even after being hurt because of another fight. He was used to it, and not for just being Robin. But it wasn't a problem anymore, he had his Robin's magic.
And if Bruce was lucky enough, the little Todd would come by for dinner. He was hard to convince, but he still enjoyed being with Bruce, Alfred and sometimes, Dick.
And in an "unfortunate night", according to Jason, Grayson made up a nickname for him, and never stopped using it. "Little Wing", it was how he called the boy.
"When I get older, I'll be taller than you. You'll see who's the little one!"
That just made Dick laugh at him, he said Jason looked cute when he tried to threaten someone, and Alfred hid the knives just to guarantee the boy wouldn't take extreme measures.
Bruce thought of Dick as a reflection of himself, but Jason was unique. The boy wasn't like any of the Waynes, he was in fact a Todd, he was not part of the family.
Grayson and him were Robins, but they were different. Even when Dick was violent, it doesn't compare to how bruised the pimps Jason fought were. The news said this Boy Wonder was crazy, aggressive, the worst Robin Gotham City ever had.
"I can't wait to find this kid dead in a dark alley."
It was what Jason overheard from a cop another day. Once the policeman and the young vigilante met again, the man had an "accident" during work that broke his arm.
Alfred noticed the little boy was smiling a lot during dinner that day, even more than usual. And the butler knew that smile, a smile of a child who just did a mischievous thing.
"Master Jason, did you have a lot of fun today?"
"A lot, Alfred."
One day, a body was found under a balcony, it was presumed the man was pushed to his death. And on that balcony, there was Robin, the possible culprit. And people accused a child of murder.
"I didn't kill him! And what if I did? He literally violated a woman!"
Jason tried to justify himself to Bruce, who was worried about the boy, as he was needing to hide himself, afraid of getting arrested.
"Jason, you can trust me, have you done it?"
Wayne asked him with a soft tone, trying to comfort the little boy. He tried to reach his hand to touch Jason's shoulder, but he stepped back.
"Bruce, do you really think I'm a murderer!?"
The man didn't answer, and Jason felt his heart breaking, the boy thought he could finally trust someone. But he was still seen as a criminal, even to the person he thought… The person he thought could be a new father to him.
"Jason… I…"
Bruce stopped himself, as he noticed something. The Robin was crying, and he was actually being a child, not a hero. A child in despair to be trusted.
"Jason… I'm…"
He didn't let Wayne finish, he just ran away out of the manor. And Bruce didn't stop him. He broke the boy's trust, and he didn't deserve to say anything to him.
Bruce tried to be the father of a no one's son. And nobody is surprised he failed. The Wayne Manor isn't supposed to be a place for kids like Jason, who fought fate itself to survive.
But, a week later, the investigation stopped, Robin was no longer a suspect. It was very sudden, but the detectives with a new big quantity of money in their pockets wouldn't justify it.
And in the same night the investigations stopped. In the same rainy night, the window of the Wayne Manor was opened by an "intruder", who noticed the great Philanthropist on the couch, like he was waiting for someone.
The little "intruder" sat down with him, his head leaned on his shoulder. Bruce caressed the boy's soaked hair, which startled him a little bit, but he slowly gave in.
"I'm sorry, Jason."
Despite Bruce's morals, his codes, the laws. He would do anything for his sons, no matter what. And Jason knew that, and he finally felt safe.
==========
Jason spent his fourteenth and fifteenth birthday with the Waynes, and even if he didn't say it, he wanted to spend all his birthdays with them.
It didn't matter if the boy wasn't in the charity galas like Dick was. It didn't matter if he didn't show himself publicly as a Wayne. Bruce saw Jason as his little bird, as his son.
And Bruce was really proud of his son. Like Grayson, he was a hero. He watched how Todd was growing up, how he was growing better, and he was a hero Bruce could never be.
The Robin was always around in the manor, even if he wouldn't easily admit, he felt at home. All the dinners, the sleepovers, the movie nights, it felt like home. He finally had a home to come back to by the end of the day.
Bruce would make a surprise for Jason, finally getting the paperwork to adopt the little bird, to finally call him "son". It would be a surprise gift, right after him coming back from patrol as Robin.
Wayne waited excited, he knew Todd would be equally happy. He was so proud of what he became, and will be more proud when he finally can call this hero his son.
It was already late, and he still didn't come back. He tried calling him, hoping he just went directly to his apartment that night, it would be understandable, but nobody picked up the phone.
Bruce turned on the television, maybe Jason was late because he was in the middle of a big situation. It already happened sometimes, so it wouldn't be different from those times. But all that he heard was nothing about one of the Robins.
But Jason, he only heard the sound of his ribs breaking after yet another hit with that crowbar. His vision was completely blurry, and it was so hard to breathe. He looked over the woman that smoked while he was in pain.
Jason never told Bruce about how he was searching for his biological mother, just Alfred was helping him secretly, and he made the butler promise he wouldn't tell anyone.
But the little Robin didn't expect his mother to be a backstabber, and in that exact moment, the metal hit his back, breaking even more ribs. Then, he heard laughter.
The laughter of a maniac clown, the one who was enjoying so much causing pain to him. Sometimes he even joked about it, like it was the most funny thing to watch.
"Uh oh, the little bird got a broken wing, maybe your mommy could help you… Oops!"
Then, more laughter followed by another hit that made his eyes water again. Jason was feeling so weak, feeling the cold floor and his own blood accumulating under him.
"D-dad…"
Jason cried out, his voice hoarse and weak. That brought his mother's attention, she knew Willis Todd was dead. But that wasn't the father her son was calling for. He was calling for Bruce, even if he wasn't a vigilante like him, even if he couldn't fight anyone.
Jason just wanted to be in his father's arms again, even if he's dying. He just wanted to be home again.
"Awn, look! Little bird is calling for daddy. What a pity!"
He sobbed in silence, he couldn't give that clown the happiness for breaking him. Jason was broken, very broken, but still, he shouldn't cry, Bruce would probably be disappointed at him.
If his biological mother betrayed him, backstabbed him without thinking twice, Bruce would never save him, even if he knew about his current situation.
The boy's mind became foggy, probably because of so many times his head got hit by that fucking crowbar. The psychopath clown wasn't there anymore, but his mother was tied up. His only memories were of untying her, and a ticking sound, then, nothing.
Bruce found himself awake until very late, even if his mind felt asleep, it woke up, and unfortunately, to the sound of Vicki Vale's voice.
"... A sudden explosion occurred in a warehouse in Gotham City's south area. The GCPD is investigating what might have caused it."
The camera showed a lot of rubble, and various policemen around the area, searching for clues and possible bodies. And they found it.
"Attention! The police just found the body of a child!"
Bruce became startled, his heart was getting tight on his chest, and the tears were ready to come. And when the camera zoomed to a very familiar boy's body, he felt broken.
He didn't get any time for any other type of reaction, his emotions were taking total control of him, Bruce was no longer acting rational. Minutes later, he was exiting the car right in front of the crime scene.
"I can't believe it, Mister Wayne! What are you doing here!?"
And similar reactions were heard by him, but completely ignored as he walked towards his son's body, which was being taken by the police.
"Mister Wayne, you shouldn't come closer, this is a crime scene."
They tried to stop Wayne, but they failed, as he got Jason's limp body in his arms. The boy was already so cold, his eyes still open, all the blue going away. The blood was still wet, staining Bruce's clothes, but he didn't care.
His little bird was dead. His son was dead. Bruce thought the pain of his parents' death was unbearable, but he never thought he would have his son's body in his arms, so cold, so lifeless.
Bruce carefully closed the corpse's eyes, so it looked like the boy was just sleeping, but he knew he wasn't. He held his son tighter to his chest, and screamed. His screams were so painful, as his heart was completely shattered.
Alfred made sure the police and the media wouldn't talk about that moment. And the butler also made sure the boy would be buried with the Waynes, as he should be.
Jason wasn't as lucky as Dick, he wasn't an exception. His end was just like the other Robins. Dead, found brutally killed.
Grayson really wanted to see Jason grow up to prove he wasn't his Little Wing anymore. Grayson wished he could call his little brother his Big Wing.
Alfred really wanted to see Jason's mischievous smile once again. Alfred wished he could bake Jason's sixteenth birthday cake.
Bruce really wished he could have saved Jason. Bruce really wished he could see Jason's smile again. Bruce really wished to hear Jason calling him old man again.
Bruce wanted his little bird back.
==========
Both the media and the GCPD didn't want to admit it, but Gotham got worse after Jason's death. He was one of the best Robins the city ever had.
Dick spent more time in Gotham since that, to act both as Nightwing and comfort Bruce. Wayne needed his son to be with him, and even if Grayson wasn't the son he wanted, he wanted to make his father happy.
They just didn't expect to find Bruce's neighbor inside of the manor, wearing a Robin costume, while having the worst dark bags under his eyes.
Somehow, the little boy knew about the relation Bruce had with the Robins, he knew about Dick and also knew about Jason. The Waynes started to think that kid was a stalker.
The boy was Timothy Drake, who was clearly obsessed with the Robin concept, and the fact the most important Robins of the city were his neighbors, it made him very excited. Even if one was gone.
"C'mon, Bruce, could you resist this kid puppy's eyes?"
Somehow, Dick convinced the philanthropist to not report the kid to his parents, or even to the police. And Tim's parents didn't seem to care about his safety, since he was just running around as Robin without them worrying about him.
And the story repeated itself, with Bruce having another Robin under his wing. He expected the story would go differently, and he wouldn't need to hold his son's body again.
The years were going through, and still, every single day Bruce had visited Jason's grave, but still, he wasn't in the moment his son dug out of his own grave.
It wasn't a surprise when the philanthropist was once again kidnapped, criminals really liked abducting rich people. But he wasn't in panic, it was just like another Saturday, and he was just waiting for Tim to show up.
But it wasn't a Robin who showed up. A person with a red helmet entered the room, and even if Bruce nor the criminals could see his face, they knew he was pissed.
"You idiots can't do a thing right, I told you to not get him. You should give me a reason to not explode your heads right now."
The mysterious man said, and Bruce could feel some familiarity in his voice. The criminals didn't even dare to blink in the wrong moment, obviously scared by their leader.
"You should all go, and if any of you try eavesdropping, I'll cut your ears off."
They all exited immediately, even Wayne was scared by his attitude. And for some reason, he was freeing him from the restraints. That was a very different kind of mob boss.
"Sorry for the inconvenience, old man. I don't hurt you and you don't call those pigs, are we good?"
Bruce looked at him suspiciously, everything was so familiar, but he couldn't point it out.
"Also, don't call your bird boys, do you hear me?"
"You mean the Robins?"
"Exactly, old man. You keep collecting them, apparently. So, just leave, call your butler to take you or whatever."
"Why are you just letting me go?"
"Damn, how ungrateful of you. It's because you're not a bad rich person, if you were some like, I don't know, Lex Luthor, you'd be already dead."
"... Thanks."
"Just go already."
And when Bruce left the building, he almost immediately found Tim, who was in his Robin uniform. If Jason was alive, he would feel replaced.
Days later, the news was just about the infamous Red Hood, who was cleaning up the streets from crime, while staining them with blood.
And still, somehow, the Red Hood and Bruce kept meeting, as criminals still tried to steal from him. And for some reason, a mob boss was determined to protect him.
"Am I your new bodyguard now, old man?"
That phrase, those exact words, they were so familiar, it reminded him of his son. But if Jason was alive, he would think he was forgotten.
"Do I… Do I know you?"
Bruce asked, searching for eye contact even if the man hid his face behind that helmet.
"I saved your ass sometimes. Geez, old man, have you already forgotten? Most of the time, people don't forget about a man with a red helmet."
"No, it's not it. I feel like we've met before. Before all this."
If Jason was alive, he would think his father just moved on after his death.
"What if we did meet? Does something change?"
"You… You remind me of my son."
"Your… Son?"
If Jason was alive, he would have thought his death was meaningless to Bruce, or to anyone.
"My son, Jason."
And he was alive. The Red Hood removed his helmet, revealing the face Bruce missed seeing. Jason was older, but it was still him, even if he was changed. It was still his son.
Bruce was in complete shock as he tried to process the information his son was alive. Jason thought his father would back down, run away from the pain, he must have done the same when he was dead, right?
But Bruce's arms were wrapped around him, hugging him tightly, like he was afraid he would lose his son again. Jason gasped in surprise, but returned the hug. He thought his dad forgot about him, but he didn't.
Wayne cried on his shoulder, and he noticed how tall his son got. He was his little bird, but he was so big now, completely grown up.
"Bruce…"
"I missed you, little bird, I missed you so much."

Also, a meat 101 lesson at the end, USDA beef quality grades edition!

Happy reading!
And now, as promised above:
BEEF QUALITY GRADING 101!
Since I live in the USA, my experience with beef quality grading is with the USDA standards. But, most of these rules (kinda) apply to other countries, they might just have different standards of what carcasses make it into what quality grades (for fun, look up USDA beef marbling cards and then Japanese beef quality grading cards. Marbling that would be acceptable for high quality beef in the US would be considered lower quality in Japan!)
What are USDA beef quality grades? Have you ever been in the grocery store, looked at a package of beef steaks (ribeye, sirloin, strip loin, filets, etc.) and saw a sticker on the package that said "USDA PRIME" or "USDA CHOICE"? That's the beef's quality grade! It determines the worth of the carcass. That, in combination with the Yield Grade (how much sellable meat can a processor/retailer/etc. can get off the carcass) gives you the overall price of the carcass.
There are two major factors that go into determining the quality grade of a carcass, the marbling and the maturity. Marbling is the intramuscular fat (fat inside of the muscle). Since marbling contributes to flavor and tenderness, more marbling is better! Below are the USDA marbling standards for beef carcasses:
Tumblr media
The other factor is the maturity of the carcass. This is determined by looking at the ossification (cartilage turning into bone) of the dorsal processes (the long spiny fingers along the back bone) along the spine of the carcass. Look at the cartilage caps in the green boxes in the picture below:
Tumblr media
The one on the far left is very white. If you were to scratch it with your fingernail, it would feel smooth. This would be considered an young carcass, or "A" maturity. The more those caps fill with bone, the older the carcass. The one on the far right has those caps completely filled with bone, so that would be considered and older carcasses, or "D" maturity. When a carcass passes into "C" maturity (like the one in the middle), that carcass can no longer be graded in to the higher priced quality grades (USDA Standard to Prime).
The maturity matters because as the animal gets older, they develop more connective tissue in the muscles. This decreases the tenderness of the meat, and consumers don't want to pay more money for tough meat. This is also why meat coming out of the middle of the carcass (along the back, so ribeye and loin) are more expensive. Those muscles have less connective tissue, so they are more tender. The tenderloin (Impress your friends by calling it by it's scientific name, psoas major!) is the most tender muscle on the carcass, so that's why it tends to be the most expensive.
Below is a chart showing what maturities and marbling scores are needed to reach what quality grade. For example, a carcass with "B" maturity and "Modest" marbling would be graded as USDA Choice.
Tumblr media
USDA Prime is the highest quality grade a carcass can receive (well, actually USDA High Prime, but I can go more into how that's determined if someone asks about it). The lowest qualty grade you see in a retail store would be USDA Standard. The USDA Commercal, Utility, Cutter, and in the verrrrryyyy tiny corner in the bottom right is Canner. These grades are given to older animals, like old cows and bulls. USDA Commercial might be sold whole muscle (boneless) in restaurants after it has been enhanced (pumped with water, salt, sugar brine to make the meat more flavorful and tender). Otherwise, these carcasses that are lower quality grades are ground up for ground beef! Nothing more tender than ground beef! They can also get canned for canned beef. I have had many delicious meals of beef and noodles from canned beef from my family's herd 😋
As I mentioned before, this quality grade, along with the yield grade, determines the price of the carcass. If you want to check those out, click the link below:
USDA AMS daily beef reports
The report for beef carcass price per hundred weight is the second link down, called "Beef Carcass Price Equivalent Index Value". The USDA Agricultural Marketing Service always has these reports and they are always updating them each day. You will see price fluctuations throughout the year. I looks like for April 12th, the most valuable carcass for that day is a carcass that grades USDA Prime, with a Yield Grade of 1-3, and a hcw (hot carcass weight) of 600-900 lbs. A carcass that hit those standards will get you $297.92 per hundred weight (every 100 lbs, you get that much amount of money). So, a 800 lb carcass that is USDA Prime, Yield Grade 3 is worth $2383.36. This would be considered very rare though. Most carcasses in the US are grading USDA Choice, Yield Grades 1-3.
Anyway! I hope you enjoyed that Beef Grading 101! If you have any questions, feel free to send me an ask! I love discussing this!

i’m curious do u have any headcanons abt wayne and raj… they are the characters ever
yes 💪
their fullnames are raj kapoor & wayne graham (the most candian name ever for the most candian character ever).
wayne was always way taller than raj growing up, but now they're roughly around the same height. it's just not obvious to most people since wayne wears boots and raj sticks with his trusty converse. raj is just pushing 5'10 and wayne's a little over 5'11.
raj has two younger siblings who are twin brother and sister and are much younger than he is. wayne is an only child, but their families are so intertwined that they basically consider him their older brother too.
they're juniors in high school (assuming that's how it works in canada, too lazy to google it rn) and are about seventeen. they don't look or act super young, but they still got the "when i'm older" type of vibe that most people who are right about to graduate don't really have.
they've been best friends for a while, but not quite childhood best friends. i think they met during gym class of sixth grade and just instantly hit it off due to their shared interests in sports and humor.
raj's parents are first generation immigrants so they're not completely fluent in english and have a bit of an accent when they talk. since his moms raised him to be the most highly of gentlemen, wayne asked raj to teach him a bit of telugu so he could make polite conversation with them whenever he came over without all the pressure being on them. that was his first step to almost being immediately adopted by them.
this actually caused them to both realize they really enjoy studying languages. they continued studying telugu together, with raj tutoring wayne. wayne also decided to take up french classes early, and raj had his parents sign him up to learn the basics of other southern indian languages they knew. they both view this as a helpful skill for when they're international hockey stars, of course.
they live in a decently smaller-sized town, so despite not being neighbors, they still find a way to be at each other's house every other day. they switch off depending on what they're feeling, and their parents learned to accept that they're a package deal that comes and goes whenever they please.
since his parents discovered he was gay through the show rather than raj actually coming out to him, they — along with wayne's moms — thought it would be funny to turn his coming home party from the show into a coming out party as well. raj realized this when he cut into the cake and it was rainbow inside.
his family was very adamant about showing raj how supportive they are. he wasn't sure why, as their best friends were a lesbian couple and his best friend was the son of said couple, but they still repeatedly told him how proud of him they were and how much they loved him. the only pushback he received was his nani complaining about how he wasn't allowed to date until he was thirty and that this bowie boy was ruining that.
teacher hate these two. they never shut up in class, will ditch their assigned partners to work with each other, never get their work done, and yet still manage to have good grades (because they know they won't be able to play otherwise). no one understands how they do it.
they always have the most over-the-top cartoony outfits for spirit weeks. even the asb and student council kids find it embarrassing how much school spirit they have.
besides their accidental menace behavior, they never actually get into any real trouble at school. the only time they've ever gotten suspended was when wayne wanted to test his new padding gear and rammed himself into the lockers at full force and nearly killed himself while raj recorded.
because of their ridiculous stunts they like to post, wayne has a bit of a following on social media. he doesn't really do it to be an influencer or for attention or anything, he just likes being able to look back on all the fun moments he and rajie have together. that's one of the reasons they were so eager to be on total drama, to showcase their awesome friendship and have the tapes of all their fun challenges together.
they work part-time at the local ice rink, where they were able to land jobs due to their skills on the ice. they even work the same shift most of the time since they have the same availability hours, although they switch off between standing behind the counter and supervising on the ice. sometimes they both get to help out with the little league hockey teams, though, which they both really enjoy.

Tumblr media
You always dreamed about your soulmate.
Since you were little, you always fantasized about meeting them. The stories your mother told, the mythologies that persisted, the meetings you witnessed. All made it seem so beautiful.
You looked out of the window. The stars twinkling and the half moon glowing in the dark, resembling your mark.
You lifted your left hand. Your crescent tattoo coming into the peripheral. You touched it gently, smiling you stared into the navy night. "We will meet someday. "
🌙
When you reached middle school. You started to focus more on your studies rather than your supposed soulmate. It was more important then.
As you reached high school. You saw several of your friends meeting their soulmate. You thought you would meet them too, but you didn't.
You envied them. They got their love so early and so easily. They would be together and for each other in some of the hardest times.
Where were your soulmate? Were they dead? You quickly shook your head to get rid of this horrid thought. No they'd be alright. You consoled yourself.
"How long are you going to make me wait? "
🌙
When you were in college you still haven't found your soulmate yet, and it was starting to drive you crazy.
So, you asked around. Looked for some advice, suggestion.
Some said to post your tattoo's picture online. You didn't have large numbers , so that didn't work.
Other said to go to soulmate forums and ask around. You did just that, but no luck their.
Some also told you to travel around the country. Maybe then you will find them. And... You did that also. You travelled from kashmir to kanyakumari, Gujarat to Sikkim. But you didn't meet them. You could however become a tourist guide by now.
"Let the fate work, baby. "
Your mother had said when you were on the verge of a breakdown.
"But, how maa? " You had asked tearfully.
"It has it's ways. They would come sooner or later. But you need to focus on your self now. I know you have been dreaming about your soulmate since you were a child, but you need to learn to love yourself. If you would not be able to love yourself, how are you going to love them?"
She was right and you understood her. Soulmates always meet unexpectedly and you can't go around searching for them.
You need to start searching yourself.
🌙
And you did just that. You found a good job, started taking care of yourself, started learning new things.
You were at a point where you were content with yourself. You did think about your soulmate, but it was rare. You didn't feel incomplete or were desperate. It was as everything has fallen into place, except your mystery mate. For whom you were waiting patiently now.
But most importantly you started travelling the world, which you realized after travelling the whole country that you liked that. Liked meeting new people, eating different food, knowing about different cultures.
That's how you found yourself in Gotham City. You were already travelling new Jersey, so the prospect of Gotham wasn't unrequited. Plus, you were running out of places to travel and Gotham's thrilling vigilante wasn't helping either.
After the arrival in the Gotham you wandered around the city. Locals were nice but a little reserved. It wasn't a hellhole of crimes, not like how media had depicted. But crime was still high, that was undeniable.
You learnt that there was an annual fair tonight and you were like, why the hell not? Let's go!
It was beautiful. Lights sparkled as it brightened the gloomy Gotham sky. Rides surrounded every corner accompanied by laughters and squeal of everyone. Toys, clothes, food everything imaginable was there.
There were also a lot of Batman merchandise. Since no one knew Batman's identity, everything was unbranded and local. But with the increase in Batman's popularity this sector would definitely grow. Some Gotham socialite should patent this brand... Or you will.
You chuckled at the thought and decided to leave the fair. The night was growing darker by every minute and even though coming to Gotham was a risky step in itself. You weren't that courageous to wander late at night in Gotham.
You called the cab and waited for it to arrive. But after awhile when the cab was still stuck at the same location for 20 minutes. You decide to call the driver.
"Hello, where are you? Is everything alright? You're stuck in the same spot for quite some time. " You voiced your concerns as soon as he picked up the phone.
"I'm sorry ma'am. I'm stuck in the traffic." The driver said.
"I need to go back, it's getting late." You said nervously. You really didn't want to stay this late.
"If you can, you can come to the cab. I'm only two blocks away. " He suggested.
You took a deep breath and decided to walk up to the cab. After all it would be safer in the confines of the car rather than standing alone.
"Alright, I'm coming. " You said.
🌙
You had safely crossed the two blocks and was mere minutes away from the location when you came across a dark valley you needed to walk before finally merging into the main street.
You swallowed hard at the realization. Don't worry, it's going to be okay. It short, just quickly jog out of here. You encouraged yourself as you took a deep breath and starting moving forward.
You were in the middle of the alley when you heard the sounds of footsteps. Your heart sunk. You didn't stop, as to not create suspicion but slowed down your pace. You listened as the steps became louder. You clutched your handbag in a death grip as you awaited the attack.
When you sensed them near. You turned around and hit the man with all of your might, using your bag. The man cried out and swiftly you kicked with in the stomach repeatedly, till he was on his knees.
You quickly sprinted into a run but more man appeared from the shadows. As if waiting for you to move. They were too many, tall and had weapons. You couldn't fight them even if you wanted to.
Is this the end? You thought as you were backed into a corner. A bulky man raised his hockey stick, making you scream as you braced yourself for the blow.
But it never came. You waited for moment, then trembling you opened your eyes. The man was nowhere to be found. Your ears then registered the sounds of groaning and grunting. The sounds of punches!
Now you fully opened your eyes and saw him, vengeance. You watched as he effortlessly took down all the goons. It took him sometime to dismantle everyone and you just stared at him the entire time, amazed and speechless.
"Are you okay? " His deep voice rang out in the alley as he stretched out his hand towards you , where you were crouched. You softly put your hands in his and he helped you back on your feets.
That's when you saw it. The crescent moon on your hand glowing in the dark, indicating your soul mate was near. Your eyes darted around the area to check of he was one of the goons. Your filled with relief when you didn't find any glow near them.
Realization struck you that the man dressed in Kevlar was your soulmate. You turned to him. Who was watching your mark, jaw clenched.
"You're my soul mate. " You said breathlessly. Maybe this explained your obsession with the Batman.
He still hasn't said anything to you. Eyes staring blankly at you, face unreadable.
"Vengeance." You asked as you moved closer.
"You should go now. " He said flatly
You faltered a little. "What do you mean? "
"Go home, it's late. " He said coldly.
Your heart thumped in your chest. What was happening? Why was he not... Happy?
"Why should I go back? I'm your soulmate-"
"Don't." He cut you off and looked away. The silence was deafening. As emotions swirled through you.
Suddenly he pulled off his left glove. His hand shining the same as you.
"See it's glowing, it's me. "
He screwed his eyes shut as if trying to close off his current situation. "Look closely. " He said gravely.
You slowly took his hand and brought it closer to you. Glancing down your heart dropped into your stomach. His mark was the same as you glinting, but it was scorched. As someone tried to get rid of it but failed.
"But I have waited for you my entire life. " You said, your voice wavering as you tried to swallow back your tears. Was he- was he rejecting you? Did he reject you even before meeting you?
He took a sharp intake of breath and told you something that broke your heart into pieces.
"I don't want you. Go away. "
It felt as if someone poured melting lava in your ears and freezed your heart into ice before shattering it into million shards. The person you loved since you were born, the person for whom you travelled the whole world, the person who was meant for you. Had rejected you.
You felt so much pain that everything felt numb and you felt nothing.
"Thank you for saving me. " You absently said and blindly walked away. Your body working on autopilot, dragging you to the street.
You spotted the cab. Standing in between cars. You reached the cab and got inside, still dazed.
"Ma'am, are you okay. "
You nodded and stared from the window blankly. After a while the traffic dispersed and the car started move.
The cold air of Gotham slapped you and that's when the reality came crashing down. Your soulmate had rejected you.
You burst into tears as they tried to subside the pain in your heart. But those flames kept raising, fueled by his words " I don't want you. "
He was so beautifully cruel.
🌙
Bruce's POV
Bruce has been in a daze since last night. His words still ringing in his ears.
"I don't want you. "
he internally flinched at these words. And yet, he had said those same words to the woman who waited for him her entire life. Waited for her soulmate her entire life.
He didn't even tell Alfred what happened. And how could he? What would he say? That he pushed yet another good thing because he can't love someone while his parents were buried under the ground. He knew, his words were bad at the least and heart wrenching at the worst.
He looked at his left arm, where the tattoo has started to heal. He didn't know his soulmate could heal such a deep wound.
He still remember the day he scorched the mark. It was after the Gotham's flood, he realized his life was too dangerous for his other half. So, he tried to break the bond, to take off the mark. But, destiny didn't let his attempt succeeded. All he could do was disfigure the tattoo.
He felt the pain, which he knew he had no right to. He was the one who sliced her heart in two pieces. But, she deserved better. It was not her fault that he was too broken to love. He just hoped that she would find someone. Who could love her.
"I'm going. " He said to his manager. He couldn't focus on anything so it was just a waste of time. He didn't wait for his reply and walked out of the building.
His heart sunk when he saw you outside the building, taking pictures. Did you figured out his identity?
He slowly approached you. You focus unwavering from the camera. "Why are you taking pictures? "
You jerked and looked at him wide eyed. Your eyes were red and swollen and his heart squeezed tightly. You gave a smile, but he knew it was fake.
"I'm sorry Mr. Wayne. I'm a tourist and that's why I was taking photos. But if you want, I can delete them. " You hastily explained.
Did you came all the way from your home to Gotham just to meet him?
God. Now he felt even more guilty. "It's okay, it's a public property anyway. "
"Thank you." With that you resumed your previous task and Bruce quietly left you, again.
No, it was for the best. His life was too dangerous, what he was doing to Alfred was a good example of that. This pain was going to be worth it. He tried to comfort himself as a tear ran down his cheek.

Why Certain Male Superheroes Have Such A Strong Female Fanbase
I discussed this on another post, but I think the trend of certain male superheroes having huge female fanbases has its roots in how relatable their characterization and struggles are. Despite being male characters, they are very strongly female-coded. I’ll use four examples, two Marvel (specifically their MCU portrayals) and two DC: Tony Stark, Bucky Barnes, Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson.
I apologize in advance if you click the Read More, this will be a very long post.
Tony Stark gets a lot of shit from the fandom, especially after Civil War. Yet, he remains arguably the most popular character from the entire series and adored by female fans. I think there’s a very good reason for that - he takes on a very female-coded role in relation to everyone else he interacts with.
For starters, he’s constantly slut-shamed. Steve, in particular, takes his sexual habits as a measure of his reliability and ability to be serious/commit. He alludes to knowing Tony from news coverage in A1, and we know from JARVIS’ quip in IM2 that Tony’s sexual escapades are highly covered by media. He looks down on Tony for his displays of sexuality (and more importantly, how shameless he is about them). Mia in IM3 also takes her digs at him about this.
His intelligence is constantly underestimated. Tony is incredibly smart and knows what he’s doing. In every Avengers movie, he is the one who formulates and carries out the plans that save the day. He is the plot device through which everything gets resolved, yet no one actually gives that any weight. In A1, Hill needles him about Selvig’s notes. In AoU, no one listens to him when he tries to explain that he was not responsible for Ultron gaining sentience or turning evil. In Civil War, Steve doesn’t listen to him when he tries to explain his decision to agree to the Sokovia Accords. Don Cheadle’s Rhodey never has any faith in Tony’s actions and constantly treats him like a child in need of supervision.
His emotions are continually disregarded. A major plot point in IM2 is Tony’s Reactor poisoning him. He exhibits all the signs of a suicidal person (even though he’s not) - giving his possessions away, retreating from public and personal life, making rash and/or unsafe decisions, emotional instability - but neither Pepper nor Rhodey even notice. In Civil War, when he tries to relay the human cost of the Sokovia disaster to the team (when we were shown how much that affected him), they dismiss his emotional outreach as manipulative. Steve disregards his friendship at every turn (indeed, being actively hostile to him through almost all of AoU) and doesn’t trust him at all (not telling him that Bucky was programmed). He also doesn’t consider that Tony may have feelings about finding out that his parents were murdered and seems surprised that Tony would be distraught. He never apologizes for hiding such important information, or even admits he shouldn’t have. When Tony returns from space in A:IW, he’s dismissive of Tony’s anger. Right until the end of A:E, Tony has to ask if Steve trusts him to make the right decision and Tony isn’t certain the answer will be yes. Natasha also treats him like he’s unrelentingly selfish, despite having been close enough to him to be wearing his clothes (in CA:WS, she’s wearing the same sweater Tony was wearing in IM2 when the only other person she does this to is Clint, with whom she is incredibly close).
Another major theme is the continued violation of his bodily autonomy. IM1 establishes that Tony’s autonomy is represented by his Reactor and armour, and that his use of both are a means to regain control over his autonomy. Obadiah continually enters Tony’s personal space without invitation or reciprocation, going so far as to undress him without permission to look at the Reactor and this comes to a head with the theft of his Reactor. Pepper gets upset with Tony about his suits in IM3, even hinging the continuation of their relationship on him getting rid of them without addressing why he’s so reliant on them. Steve in CW, once he has Tony on the ground, goes right for the Reactor (not to mention that Tony raises his arms like he anticipated that Steve was going to behead him). Then Steve leaves him there.
I think Tony appeals to so many female fans because it’s so easy to see the way we are ignored, overridden, used and discarded in him. He never seems to be good enough for the ones that he loves. He also knows he can’t turn to any of his closest people for comfort and doesn’t bother to try. He’s been taught by experience that if he’s disruptive or not useful, he’s not welcome. It’s incredibly difficult for him to accept kindness, but very easy to shoulder blame and responsibility. He’s easily hurt, but so good at concealing it no one notices. No one takes him seriously in anything he does, even when he’s proven it with actions. He’s always fighting against preconceived notions of him that aren’t him.

Despite being a physically imposing character with a deadly skill-set and high body-count, Bucky is characterized almost exclusively as a caregiver or a victim.
In CA:TFA, he’s got a severe case of “Eldest Daughter Syndrome”, concerned above all with making sure that Steve is taken care of and kept from harm. Bucky consistently cleans up after Steve, both by running off the people he fights and ensuring that Steve’s living situation is assured. As the team sniper, he’s always watching Steve’s back and making sure he doesn’t get hurt. Steve loves Bucky, but he doesn’t ever take care of him. In CW and afterward, Bucky’s still more concerned for Steve than himself. He would have resigned himself to whatever punishment INTERPOL would have give him, and it’s not until Steve is threatened in their fight with Tony that he actually gets involved. Even in FATWS, he helps Sam not only with the terrorists, but with the boat and he reaches out to the Wakandans to replace the Falcon suit that got destroyed. He helps Sam train with the shield, even mentioning that he was the one who helped Steve get a handle on how to use it.
His victimization also starts near-immediately, with him being the sole survivor of Zola’s experiments in CA:TFA. He’s victimized and abusively controlled through his entire time as the Winter Soldier. Like Tony, his autonomy is also materially symbolized by his arm, which is used against him by Natasha in CA:WS and Ayo in FATWS. Perhaps most upsettingly relatable, he’s held accountable for the actions of the Winter Soldier in FATWS as exemplified by the therapist, who victim-blames him and seems more concerned with checking off a box for the government than actually helping him recover in any meaningful way. Zemo capitalizes on this spectacularly in FATWS.
I think a lot of women can relate to the kind of exhausted resignation of Bucky. He’s so rarely in control of anything that happens to him, but he still tries to be useful and kind when he can. He’s scared and hurt and alone, abandoned by the only person he knew in a world completely alien and hostile to him. His body language screams for someone to take care of him, but he’d die before asking for it. He tries so desperately not to be a burden, but always feels like one. He’ll put the needs of those he cares for above himself without exception, even when it causes him a lot of distress. His body and skills don’t feel like they belong to him, and he feels like it’s only a matter of time before someone steals them away again.

Bruce Wayne as Batman might seem like an odd example, and there are certainly iterations of him that won’t fit this characterization. However, there’s a lot about him that is highly relatable to the feminine experience.
For starters, he’s guilt-ridden as shit. Bruce always takes it hard and personal when something goes wrong, even when he’s not responsible for it. This is most obvious in relation to his parents or Jason Todd, where he blames himself for something he didn’t do and couldn’t control. While every failure he has is met with a practical reassessment of his tactics, he also looks inward, trying to find what it is about him personally that makes these things happen and/or why he isn’t enough to stop it. He has a tendency to just accept blame instead of pushing back (ei. whenever Jason throws his death in his face).
He’s been raped. However much it may be payed down, Talia drugged and had non-consensual sex with him to conceive Damian.
His main motivation isn’t revenge, it’s prevention. While he’s not above revenge, the purpose behind Batman is to ensure that tragedies don’t have the chance to happen and that, even though he uses violence to accomplish his goals, he will never be the source of that tragedy. He wants to lash out in violent retaliation, but he cares more about redressing the balance of pain than he does inflicting it back. That’s how he can be friendly with people like Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy and Two-Face.
Bruce is a single mom at his core. He might not be the best parent all or even some of the time, but he loves his children and would do almost anything for them. He gets accused of creating child soldiers (both in canon and by fans), but none of his kids are soldiers to him. They work for him as Batman, but they are so much more than his co-vigilantes. He loves them like a parent and would die for any one of them. Indeed, this is a sentiment that extends to a few members of the JLA too, especially amongst the OG crew.
Bruce’s emotions are also discounted a lot, though that’s generally because he’s taken as cold and emotionless. He feels very deeply, about nearly everything, but he’s very good at hiding it. He views his heart as incredibly vulnerable and so only reveals it to a select few. The more this backfires on him, the less he’s willing to open up and the more guarded he becomes. He cares so much, but he’s so gripped by the fear of being hurt that it has to be forcefully pried out of him.
Brucie Wayne is an expertly crafted persona that plays into the female stereotype of “ditzy bimbo”. The “tall, dark and handsome” persona could have done just as well for his public face, playing into a more mysterious and alluring figure, but he chose to portray himself as a charming drunk, always down for a good time and with all the depth of a puddle. Brucie Wayne is such a shallow and vapid personality, comparable only to that of Paris Hilton’s public profile.
As I said, not every Bruce Wayne is portrayed this way, but some of the more famous examples of him certainly are: Kevin Conroy (Batman: The Animated Series/Justice League Unlimited/The Arkham games), Bruce Greenwood (DCAMU, Young Justice), Robert Pattinson (The Batman 2022) and arguably even Ben Affleck (DCEU). He’s capable of being brutal, demanding and uncompromising, but he ultimately wants the pain to stop, not to inflict it.
I think a lot of women see him almost as a kind of power fantasy, a way to exact violent vengeance on the ones who hurt people but maintain an inner kindness. This may be a bit of a self-projection, but I also think women can relate to his “going too far” notion - for those who have been victims before, it is so, so easy to slip into the cycle of perpetuation and become the abuser. He manages to thread the needle of striking back at an abuser without becoming one.

Dick Grayson is perhaps one of the most sexualized male characters in existence, and almost exclusively catering to the female audience, particularly once he’s Nightwing. He’s kind, warm, funny, charming, attractive and considerate. But I think a lot of his appeal comes not only from being made of boyfriend material, but the way he demonstrates these attributes.
Dick pretty generally falls into the Eldest Daughter role once he’s an adult, becoming very close with his siblings and often acting as an intermediary between Bruce and the other kids. He’s the one that the rest of the family turns to when something happens to Bruce, and he’s often the one to take up the temporary mantle of Batman when Bruce is otherwise unable. Even with the Teen Titans, he’s a tentpole figure that guides his teammates and helps them mature despite often being the same age or younger than them.
Partly due to his past as a performer, Dick is a people-pleaser. This goes for his home life, romantic relationships and general public persona. Dick is Bruce’s charming first son, Bludhaven’s affable vigilante or [insert love interest]’s considerate boyfriend. He’s a lot more genuine in his public persona than Bruce is, but he’s gracious in the way a retail employee is - a certain measure of forced cheer that’s expected of him.
The way other characters sexualize Dick is also very female-coded. They always comment on his body, the tightness of his suit and how pretty he is. While they may also comment on his charm or personality, often the first things they discuss are physical. He usually plays along with this in good humour, but even other members of his family who share a lot of characteristics - Bruce, Tim, Jason, older Damian - don’t get the same kind of horny-on-main attention. He’s also usually paired with very strong/dominating love interests (Donna, Kory, Barbara) and has a tendency to be more passive in the relationship and get pursued when dating.
I think Dick acts like a lot of women do (or feel like they have to): upbeat and cheerful, attentive to their partners/family and always available for emotional caretaking. His body is a spectacle that receives unsolicited comment and judgment constantly. He fills the gaps where Bruce falls short and struggled to find his own path and identity away from the needs of his family.

Women are used to having to relate to male characters in media, since female characters are generally so sparse, inauthentic or underdeveloped. I think that’s why, when we see ourselves in male characters, we latch onto them so tightly and care about them so much. While none of these attributes are exclusive to women, there’s a certain way that these aspects of characterization blend together that is generally more familiar to women than it is so men. There’s an echo of lived experience in their portrayals that hits very close to home.

Hello! Could I ask for general yandere Bruce Wayne headcanons? Thank you! ^^

ben affleck version cause hes hot
gn reader cuz im a boss
warnings: stalking, manipulation, stockholm syndrome, yandere themes, obsessiveness.
Tumblr media
Bruce is typically on the kidnapping side than the manipulation. Manipulation was his second option but he spent months watching you closely and couldn’t contain himself for long.
He isn’t a big fan of the manipulation crap like Diana, he prefers to just take you instead; its his ego or his wealth.
He uses his money to win you over.
You are probably wealthy but still on the “unfortunate” side according to Bruce.
I can see Bruce already knowing about you before you even met him, he is the Bruce Wayne and of course you heard of him and his heroic events but you just didn’t really know him.
However, he does watch you first. In his eyes, he doesn’t stalk; he just happens to be patrolling in the carefree nights in Gotham on your side of town. No big deal. The Batman is just caring for all citizens.
He is very delusional about his beliefs and his beliefs only. Doesn’t really care of what anyone thinks of him.
He probably gets judged by the League before they take their darlings.
Like, Diana would get her beloved first and Barry and Victor would give her a weird side-eye but when Bruce first talked about you; Barry and Victor were highly against him. Arthur didn’t care and Clark had already known about Bruce’s intentions.
He is an observer. Probably even knows how long it takes for you to even go to sleep, depending on your mood of course. I can see Bruce even knowing your day-to-day schedule. Whether you work or go to school. He knows how you function and knows what you need to function throughout the day.
He will probably take you when your sleeping or walking to your home. But Bruce is no dumbass. He plans out his kidnapping with the help of Alfred who is too concerned for Bruce’s intentions.
Predicts the time and everything, everything is planned out and your finally his.
Due to his power as the Batman and his wealth as Bruce Wayne: he is wayyyyyy toooooooo strong to escape.
Probably monitors your phone because he knows you will contact anyone for help.
Go to Gotham City Police? They know better to turn you back to him.
Your bank accounts are fucked up.
Your social media accounts are deactivated.
Every app has a child's lock on it because it uses it to taunt at you, how defenseless and powerless you are against him.
God forbid you actually manage to escape, somehow break Alfred into letting you go. Now Bruce will never fire Alfred but he does tend to show you both a reminder about what happens if you cross him.
Definitely catches you before you are able to go to any of your friends or family to support.
You have not been in contact with the people you love the most: they are currently under the impression you started a new job opportunity at Wayne Enterprises and will be quiet for a while, but not to worry: Bruce can easily make your family forget about your with a little dash of cash.
Blood, Blood, Blood. Kills what is the most meaningful to you.
Definitely not afraid to get his hands dirty, honestly prefers it.
Reminds you he does everything to protect you.
Because you may not need him but he needs you.
He had been shallow for way long and now takes what he wants.
There is no escaping Bruce Wayne nor the Batman.

It's a Reflex
by unamused_bruise To be fair, Danny wanted it to be known that he just wanted some time to indulge in his Space and Protection obsession. How could he have known that while on a class field trip to Gotham he’d gain a father, grandpa, and a clown van full of siblings via accidental forced adoption? Danny just wanted to talk with the people in the Aerospace Division at Wayne Enterprises, his friends are never going to let him live this down. “Oh dear, oh Gone With the Wind, we’ve lost Danny.” Lancer mutters under his breath as he nervously glances around his class. He can only hope that they are able to find Danny before Jazz finds out. “Class, as you can see Danny is not with the group anymore. Does everyone remember the Flyaway Fenton Protocol? Good.” It’s at this point the Guide realizes whats going and tried to take point. “There’s a kid missing?! This is terrible! Hopefully he’s still in the building, Gotham is dangerous for the unprepared, I’ll go ahead and ask the front desk to try and have security search the building.” Lancer stares blankly at the Guides back as he beelines out of the hotel and back to WE. “I fear more for Gotham, the people here are the ones unprepared for a lone Fenton.” Words: 4150, Chapters: 1/6, Language: English Fandoms: Batman - All Media Types, Danny Phantom Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Categories: Gen Characters: Bruce Wayne, Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Duke Thomas, Danny Fenton Relationships: Batfamily Members & Batfamily Members (DCU), Batfamily Members (DCU) & Danny Fenton, Danny Fenton & Duke Thomas Additional Tags: Based on a Tumblr Post, I took canon out back and shot it, Teen and up for Duke's potty mouth, Not Jason's though, He doesn't want to give a bad impression to the new kid, He also doesn't want another little sibling to hate him, Duke doesn't care though, Unless he's in public, Tim is truly the middle child, Poor Tim Drake, He knows that Bruce didn't adopt Danny, Because Tim still highkey stalks the Batfam, Doesn't mean he'll do anything about it though, 'hey free brother' -Tim probably, They think they get a 'normal' sibling, but they don't, take that however you will, Accidental Sibling Acquisition, The Batfam may be the best detectives, But they're in an echo chamber of bad socializing, Once they get a new member it's contagious, So they don't use normal social cues on each other, Danny 'being punt through a building is a hello' Fenton also can't socialize, Duke will throw hands with Dick for that fav big bro trophy, Good Older Sibling Dick Grayson, Dick Grayson Gets a Hug, Jason Todd Tries to Be a Good Older Sibling, Jason Todd Deserves Better, Good Sibling Duke Thomas, Duke Thomas Deserves the World, Tim Drake Being a Little Shit, Coffee Lover Tim Drake, Confused Danny Fenton, Danny Fenton-centric, Tired Parent Bruce Wayne, Bruce Wayne is Bad at Communicating, no beta we die like robins, and danny via https://ift.tt/Iw6UjkT

You Mentioned OCs. (np)
oh di i'm so excited you asked about them i'm actually jumping up and down rn bc like,,, i've had these two for YEARS, i rotate them in my mind every single day and with all the media i consume i always think ok but what if the protagonists were ACTUALLY my ocs like i'm so mentally ill about them
their names are Briar and Evelyn (Evie for short) and they're both so silly and so disgustingly in love, think vincent and lovely but ten times worse
also this got like REALLY long so don't feel obligated to read it all lol
let's start with my boy Briar
his name frequently gets mistaken for Brian and it makes him so irrationally angry lol
he's a born vampire! so no old man activities this boy is like 17 as of now
he's the one who knows how to cook! he makes food for others as a love language
also fun fact there's like an actual vampire cuisine in this universe so vampires can consume food that's not just blood and still get nutritional value out of it
his family are part of the older vampire generation technically? what i mean is his family have been vampires for a few centuries now so they're kinda rich and well known
that said, his parents are for sure around 80-100 but him and his sisters are young!
as i've said he's only around 17 and he's the youngest out of his siblings
he has 3 older sisters (20ish, 24 and 28) and they're all very protective of him because omg!!!! that's their baby brother!!!
sometimes too protective to the point where they underestimate him and make him feel bad,,, woops!
he still really looks up to them and puts them on a bit of a pedestal, making him an overachieving perfectionist while he strives to get to what he assumes is their level
spoiler alert this results in a lot of angst and him not feeling good enough despite his parents and sisters never really pressureing him to do anything
he definitely tries to hide his insecurity by overcompensating and acting more arrogant than he is but his friends can read him like a book lol
"i had this leftover because i made too much on accident, eat it so i don't feel bad about being wasteful. honestly you should feel honored to be allowed to taste my cooking" translation: "you seemed stressed so i made you your favourite meal but please don't bring it up or i'll die. hope you like it ^-^"
terrified of bugs which is unfortunate since his 3rd sister loves them and keeps them as pets
when i said overachiever i meant it. student body president. excels in most sports. top grades.
he has to be perfect or he will literally die (real) (not fake)
oh he's also scared of dogs and he's very pathetic about it. i'm talking he sees a tiny puppy and he crosses to the other side of the street.
works at a convenience store because he doesn't want to end up being a spoilt rich brat stereotype lol the old ladies at check out love him because he always offers to carry their bags to their car for them
tries to act all serious and grown up when he's around his sisters to impress them but it's a lost cause
he's a complete sweetheart please tell him he's doing a good job and watch trashy dramas and reality tv with him
okie Evie time :3
she's a witch!! wohoo magic
she has like a billion siblings
jk just 5 but still
all of them are adopted and a different magical being (for example her older brother is a werewolf) simply because i think it's funny
listen hear me out: her dad is like fucking bruce wayne, adopting kids left and right, but he's just a regular schmegular human so i think it's hilarious that he adopts a new kid and he's all like "oh great they're just human phew no stress for me"
just to find out that no, this child is in fact NOT human, and on top of that they're an entirely different species than the rest of his kids so he has to learn about their specific needs and quirks and whatnot all over again
listen it's hilarious
okay anyways
evie stress bakes!! so she always has new stuff to give to others because WOW girl you're stressed beyond measure
brought 5 loafes of bread to school once to give to her friends. "thanks but you already gave me 2 yesterday my family really can't eat all of that :(" "girl PLEASE you have to help me i have 12 more at home and my dad is fucking PISSED he told me to get rid of them immediately."
if Briar needs to be perfect or else he will die, then Evelyn needs everyone to like her or she will die
she's honestly a bit of a pushover because of that but she's working on it and has made great progress (therapy queen)
fashion lover and lover of cute things
her outfits look like a claire's threw up on her
her magic manifested when she was like 5 when she got into a fight with her brother and she just. launched his ass into the sky lol
that accident broke his leg and made her resent her powers for a bit
like she wanted nothing to do with them and straight up refused to go to a school where she would learn about them. her dad was so worried because suppressing magic longterm makes you actually sick
that is until a friend of her dad explained to her that learning to control her powers would help her prevent any more accidents
that friend is called Makena and we love her! she's a witch as well and ended up giving Evie private lessons and also helped Evie's dad with learning about magic and how to care for non-human kids
at first Evelyn rly sucked at magic like REALLY sucked at magic and she was like, are you serious this is ASS
but she was just a slow learner and is really good now :)
works at Makena's cafe in an effort to help with her social skills
i have drawings of these two somewhere but it's been a while so i can't fund them 😭

Dangerous Inquiries (ch.6)
Tumblr media
When you woke up you noticed the sun already up. You checked your phone. 4:00am. Your first class started at 7am. You remembered your professors gave you this week to pull yourself together but you didn't wanna spend more time in your quiet house. You decided to make coffee. You made coffee and started eating breakfast. When you finished eating breakfast you went into the bathroom to freshen up and get dressed in clothes suitable for going to school. As soon as you were done fixing up you head downstairs. Your door knocked. You looked at the peephole and saw Kory. You pulled the door open. She was carrying a bag full of books, flowers and other things. "I brought your stuff!" she smiled. "Thank you!" you hugged her tightly. "Why are you wearing these?" she asked. "I'm going to the class." you answered. "Are you sure?" she asked concerned. "Yeah. I'll be okay." She nodded and smiled. "Okay. Then I'm driving you there." "Thanks." you grabbed your bag and headed to the car. While she was driving you asked "Do you know about Jason Todd?". She looked at you confused "Of course. He's Dick's brother. Bruce's other kid. What happened him?" You explained everything. You told her what had happened. She remained silent during the whole story. After you finished talking, Kory said "You should stay away from him Y/n." "Why?" you asked. Kory hesitated for some seconds. She seemed reluctant in telling you something. "He's trouble." she said eventually. "Well. It didn't surprise me." you shrugged. Kory chuckled slightly. You arrived to the collage in time. "Thanks for the drive." "Anytime sweetheart." she said with a smile. After 2 hours of class you wanted to go to library. Library wasn't crowded. You quickly sat on one of the tables. You turned on your computer. Started to search for Jason Todd. You didn't find anything except a correction Jason T. WAYNE. There weren't any photos of Mr.Todd with other people. You started checking social media. He didn't have any account. He didn't seem to be as active as his brother. You sighed disappointed. You checked some old news about your dad. He was really famous for many things. He was really successful antiquist in Gotham. People loved him. A lot. He was always a problem solver for everyone he met. Even he was busy most of the time and always working. So how did someone like that could get murdered? You were really upset. You felt horrible. Your hands were trembling with anger. You felt like crying. You needed someone to talk to. Someone who understands your pain. Dick was the first name you thought. He also lost his parents when he was little child. He could give you guidance on how to get over this pain. While you were thinking about Dick you also remembered Jason was adopted by Bruce too. Why would he ask questions about your father's murder? His father was also murdered? You couldn't stop thinking about it. It was making you feel numb. You were looking your father's pictures and trying to not to cry. Then you went back to your Jason Todd search. Still nothing. He didn't seem to exist except being adopted by Bruce Wayne. Your head was pounding with questions. You closed the lid of the laptop. You leaned your forehead on the surface of the table. You closed your eyes tight. You felt dizzy. You were exhausted. Your stomach growled loudly. You picked up your bag filled with books and stood up. You started walking towards the exit. Suddenly you stopped. You felt someone watching you. You looked behind you to see the person. You saw white haired woman with eyepatch. She was sitting at a table near the window and was staring at you intently. You felt like she was analyzing you. You tried to remember if you knew her. But you couldn't. You didn't know her. She just watched you from afar. You felt uneasy. Her presence scared you. Without knowing why. You suddenly turned around and walked outside without paying attention to the woman.

I don’t know if it’s been asked before but why do you like Batman? What’s so special about him?
It's been talked about a bit by me just rambling, but never really explained in depth, and even then, I never mind repeating myself <3
So, a not insignificant part of it is that one of the first TV shows I ever remember watching, other than Redwall and Dragon Tales was the DCAU Justice League show, and I immediately fell in love with their version of Batman, especially how he was performed by the late, great Kevin Conroy. So I just started seeking out that version of Batman through the DCAU shows when I was really young, like, seven years old, and it just kinda imprinted itself on me, the way media often can when you're a young child. And I do maintain that, despite some flaws (like the Jason Todd-ification of Tim Drake for no reason, and the obsession with making Bruce and Barbara a couple, which just.....hurl) the DCAU characterization of Batman as a person and as a hero is is the gold standard. But I did start reading comics once I ran my way through all the shows, and that core love still remains.
Part of it is, again, he's Amélie's very first blorbo ever since the mid-2000s, but Bruce as a character is genuinely compelling. Bruce goes through an unimaginable trauma at a very young age, and rather than how most people would react, he chose to do something with it. Seriously, if you think about something like the death of Batman's parents happening in the real world and you just read about it on the news, that's horrific, and it makes sense that it's not only fucked Bruce up, but could have potentially resulted in him turning into a mess. And he is a mess, don't get me wrong, but he also chose to be more than that. He chose to create Batman, to try and help a city that was drowning and make it better. There's an element of choice to Batman's character and his arcs that I've always liked. He doesn't need to do anything that he's done. There's no outside force compelling him to try and create a better version of his city where no one has to experience the hurt that he went through. There's no external pressure demanding that he protect the world even in the face of odds that he cannot win just to keep innocent people safe. There's no ulterior motivator making him take in children who have nothing, children who need a home and a family and loving care, other than the fact that he wants to do right by them and he has an infinite capacity for love in his heart. Bruce has no responsibility to Gotham, the people of Gotham, to other heroes, to the world, to random kids he meets on an off chance. No one asked him to do anything he does, and he's under no obligation to do it or continue. Bruce could stop being Batman tomorrow and dismantle the entire operation and turn his entire family into civilians, and nobody would be able to say he can't do that because he had no duty to start it in the first place. But he did. He chose to do good, to turn his pain into a drive to try and make life better for people in his city, to take a drive that could become a very selfish motivator (for instance, devoting resources solely to finding Joe Chill) and using it for something purely selfless (putting his own self on the line, in all possible ways, just to make sure people can lead better lives and that no one ever experiences the pain that he has).
There is a fundamental goodness to Bruce Wayne's character that is incredibly compelling. Because it would be so easy for there not to be. And he's had a fair amount of writers who've forgotten that it's there (people who write abusive Bruce Wayne are never seeing heaven), but if he's got someone who understands the character, then yeah, he's good. He's selfless and he's kind and he's got a capacity for love and care that is astounding. He opens his heart to children he has no connection to purely just to give them a good home, he refuses to harden himself against letting people in even with the amount of times he's been hurt, he never stops trying to help people who are hurt or sick get better (as clearly seen in his neverending quest to try and help Harvey Dent be rehabilitated). He's a good person who chooses to keep that goodness and not let it slip away from him, no matter what, even when he would be well within his rights to. He never lets himself. I mean, God, Bruce Wayne is someone who will personally resuscitate a man he hates more than anything, a man who murdered his child, just so that his other son won't become a killer and have to live with that guilt (that's real fyi, Dick Grayson once beat the Joker to death after the Joker had taunted him with details of his murder of Jason Todd's, and Batman, along with possibly Robin, managed to revive him so that Dick wouldn't be guilty of murder). Bruce Wayne is someone who could have been fundamentally broken by the things that happened to him, if not the murder of his parents then certainly the murder of his child (and we know it did alter a lot of his personality, which makes sense, cuz his kid died), and no one would have really blamed him. He could have become cold and cruel and a killer, and he knows he has that capacity within him, but he actively chooses not to.
And he doesn't always do the right thing; trust me, if you're a fan of Jason Todd, you're well aware of the fact that Bruce doesn't always do the right thing. He falls short. Batman is only human, and he makes mistakes. He makes wrong and bad choices, he fucks up and needs to try and fix it, he fails to meet his own standards (I don't know how many times I need to say it, but for all intents and purposes, Batman has absolutely broken his no kill rule, going into his confrontation with the Joker in Batman #429 with the express intent to kill, refusing to save him when he can, and never expressing a moment of doubt or remorse when he's believed to be dead, is basically Batman breaking his no kill rule, the only reason it doesn't technically count is because the Joker is revealed to have survived, but he had intent and he never had any remorse or second guessing, it counts as breaking the rule). Bruce has fucked up, with rogues and cases, and with friends and family too, and he's had to live with those mistakes and, if he's got a good writer at least, try to rebuild from there and earn whatever redemption he needs to depending on how big the screwup (and how much the writer either thinks Bruce is an untouchable god/hates whoever he hurt, no I'm not bitter about Certain Storylines, why would I be bitter?).
Bruce Wayne is incredibly human, painfully human. He lives in this world of gods and monsters and there he is, a man with a plan. And it is enjoyable, from a character perspective, that this man who is nothing but human, entirely ordinary, is able to fight and talk and think circles around people who'd routinely be considered superior, who has this place as one of the most god-tier people in his universe entirely because he's earned it, because he's lived up to his potential and his reputation. But there's also something beautiful in that. Like yeah, Bruce is stupid levels of rich, but beyond that, there's really nothing outwardly special about him. He's just a man. But he becomes larger than life through his actions, the choices he makes, the fact that he be brought low as he could be, low as he'd have the right to be, by his circumstances. His goodness remains intrinsic to him, and he refuses to give it up, because it's the core aspect of his humanity, a humanity that he refuses to relinquish in the face of greater and mightier odds and unspeakable evils, and it speaks to an immense fortitude as well as just how good he is.
(and I know there are a lot of generally bad faith criticisms made about the concept of Batman, and what Bruce chooses to do but a) no he does not go around beating up pickpockets and the mentally ill, he either stops crime non-lethally and informs the cops or is specifically asked to intervene in something by the authorities, not to mention that the "mentally ill" people that are his rogues are also basically domestic terrorists who are often full murderers, sorry that my heart does not bleed for the fact that the Joker has some kind of disorder while Batman punches him in the nose, and b) the fact that the system Gotham has in place is made explicitly clear on numerous occasions to not be remotely adequate to deal with what they have to deal with, that a lot of the cops and politicians and people meant to protect citizens are either completely inept and terrible at their jobs or just straight up corrupt and actively making the situation worse, and I do find it amusing that a lot of the criticisms of Batman come from left wing Twitter activists who crow about the incoming revolution but then go catatonic at the idea that a fictional character has decided the system is too corrupt to work with and thus forcibly changes it from the outside, isn't that what y'all's fucking incoming commie revolution is meant to do? Just sayin. Also no, he's not a fascist, tf, words mean things.)
And from a character perspective, from my enjoyment of him as a part of a fiction and an overall puzzle piece in a greater story (cuz I always do try to separate liking a character as a person vs liking them as a character), I'm not immune to the fact that Bruce's complexities come from a good number of tragedies. He's not real, and it does add to interest in him as a narrative device that he deals with a lot and needs to react to it and overcome it (and he deals with a lot, I wrote a list and it's not even comprehensive I definitely left out a lot just out of pure forgetfulness). Watching Bruce as a character, already with all the traits I enjoy listed out above, deal with the things he has to deal with makes him not just a character to enjoy as person, but a character to enjoy as a character, as part of a larger story, as a significant part of what makes that story rich and compelling and routinely interesting even when it's been going on for close to a century. Plus, again, from a character perspective, he's got fascinating interpersonal relationships that are captivating as well and add to his own complexities, relationships not just in terms of romance, but with friends and allies and enemies and especially with family (I think it's kinda impossible to be a Batman fan and not have an insane number of thoughts about the relationship he has with at least ONE of his kids).
There's a lot that's been written about Batman that I don't like, I am not a fan of DC's insistence that Bruce is a shitty dad who routinely beats his children, and it does feel a lot of the time these days like Bruce is a character that I like more for his potential than the way he tends to be written. But I still love that potential, and the kind of character he can be in the hands of a competent writer (and given what a decentralized medium comics are when it comes to canons and characterizations, you have to allow for that kind of leeway in a way you can't with other forms of storytelling) is one that can be truly great. As a character, he's kind of everything you can want, flawed and imperfect and deeply human, but always trying, and with not just a rich interior but complex relationship dynamics that have helped shape who he is.
Ultimately, I think why I like Bruce is best summed up by something Amanda Waller said in the Justice League Unlimited episode Epilogue: I've never met anyone who cared as deeply about his fellow man as Bruce Wayne. And I love him for that.
