I could write bucketloads of paragraphs about how insane it is to me that people are collectively willing to spare so little understanding and emphathy towards Batman/Bruce Wayne, his core traits and what his character stands for as a whole, both the canonical writers (especially those obsessed with always mischaracterising him as a bad father/crazed/obsessed/asshole/cold hearted/always beefing with batfam, etc) and as an extension, the fandom as well who will literally just label themselves bruce wayne hater. Like, idk what's wrong with writers, bro. The reason people shit mostly on batman for his no kill rule is that his no kill rule, in a storytelling sense, is never framed in a positive way. They never show a perspective that says 'hey, his no kill code really does makes a difference".
Instead, it's constantly demonised and challenged by the same decades old drama of "why doesn't he kill the joker" started through Jason Todd, who was literally voted to be killed off by the fans. As for Joker, ofc he won't be killed cuz the dc corporates will milk him for what its worth. Besides, so much of this just boils down to people treating comic genre as a whole too much like literary works, like man, there's a reason they are not realistic, what with superheroes and sidekicks and all. They are supposed to be about adventures, about kids finding relatability through the addition of younger vigilantes and stuff like that. It loses its charm when people try too hard to use it as some gritty realistic cynical commentary on something.
Istg, there are other superheroes with younger sidekicks plus no kill code yet batman gets the most shit for it. This is cuz the writers use only him having younger sidekicks/no kill code as an example of its cons or plotpoint of some dark gritty drama or shi like that then they butcher his overall personality plus his relationship with his family ontop of that.
Then, ofc, in turn, fandom fans who probably only have surface knowledge of comics or other media just catch onto any one point, project their own family problems onto batfam, and start hating on batman.
Like, nobody is willing to show him in a sympathetic light anymore. Just like how I was tired with dark, god complex snyder superman, I'm tired of this interpretation of batman over the last decade. "Listen, what if batman was an emotionless manipulative bastard and only saw his robins as child soldiers for the 3456th times" like just stop. Enough. It literally just takes more sympathy and understanding towards the character as a whole and writing him in a better light, and to keep that characterisation up consistently instead of it just being a few panels or one comic thing, to make it so that the perspective of the fandom towards his character also gradually shifts as well.
My bad if the yap got long, I'm literally burnt out from all this.
What I will never understand is the way people invalidate Bruce's very valid feelings of betrayal and rage whenever someone plasters a bat symbol across their costume and then proceeds to kill.
He's fought for and built up this legacy based on his values of justice, rehabilitation, and the sanctity of life itself; something very personal to him and a direct reflection of his world-view -- only to watch it get desecrated by people that believe they know the "right way" of enacting justice, most often people closest to him.
Imagine if one of the superboys were to parade around the fact that they were wearing the Superman crest when committing actions that directly go against Clark's ideology and mission. I bet you, people would not attack or invalidate Clark's feelings of betrayal then.
However, when it is Bruce, there's always some sort of insidious desire to demonize him and everything he's built.

Batman/Bruce Wayne's mental health headcanons (absolutely not me projecting my own habits as a similarly traumatised ex-child):
Both Bruce Wayne and Batman get easily burnt out from socialising, especially speaking, which is why Bruce Wayne often excuses himself and slips off during a party or something while Batman just recharges by staying silent and distancing himself from others a bit, preferably in the shadows.
Bruce Wayne can change his facial expressions on the drop of the hat. Now, you may say, of course he can as he's supposed to have two or more personas to maintain, to which I say, not in the way you think. I'm not talking about his usual 'thank god the rich crowd is gone im just gonna drop my brucie smile now' but more of 'I think I've smiled enough my face muscles are tired now'. Like, with his family, when he's being himself, he may smile or grin occasionally, but just as quickly, he'll drop it into a neutral or even resting frown. It freaks some of his kids out, and they wanna know why he keeps doing this. "I just get tired," is his only brief explanation. He doesn't tell them the extended, slightly more complicated explanation that it feels unnecessary. Smiling should be kept minimum, or else he starts to feel like the joker a clown.
He doesn't feel ✨️normal✨️ I mean, yeah, you don't have to rub it in if you're going to. He's literally a famous billionaire with a b, and spends his nights dressing up as a bat with fancy advanced gadgets to punch criminals but the thing is, it's about this deep rooted feeling that he's forgotten what a normal person is supposed to feel, mentally. It's been that way ever since his parents were killed.
He basically has functioning depression, and it's been with him for so long that the lines between depression and what a normal mental state is supposed to be have started to blur. He's so used to it clinging to him like a grey cloud all these years that he doesn't even notice it anymore. Of course, on certain days, it seems to weigh down on him even more than usual.
Bruce Wayne doesn't really enjoy things anymore. The last time he remembers enjoying doing just about anything was as a kid. Even after the murder of his parents, he distinctly remembers having hobbies and personal projects and activities he was enthusiastic about. But over time, he started to enjoy less and less. It wasn't that he lost interest, exactly, but just that he got too tired of them. It felt pointless. Nowadays, he'll either just partake in events or activities just to keep up his Brucie status, and his kids hobbies and stuff for quality time. He doesn't do anything for himself.
Batman isn't intentionally rude, but moreso just tired all the time. This man, running on limited nutrition shakes, coffee, being awake since early morning way into past midnight without rest, coupled with old mental issues, he is too mentally (and very often physically) tired to make small talks or adhere to any speaking etiquettes like saying please, thank you, sorry, having to focus on the context of things, having to wrap up the conversation, stuff like that, which is why he barely pays attention to how someone's feelings may be affected and just goes to the point in his usual blunt, straightforward manner. This is why he almost always disappears during conversations with Commissioner Gordon without properly concluding these said conversations cuz he just can't be bothered with the hassle to conclude them. Moreover, he thinks it adds to his reputation as being silent, blunt, and to the point and the main point is to be feared as a Dark Knight so he doesn't ever bother to change it.
Trauma has obviously made him distrustful, paranoid, and cynical. He's quick to see the worst in people and quick to assume the worst of situations because he's stuck in a perpetual survival mode loop. Alot of people say he's still stuck as an eight year old child, in that alley, and yeah, I interpret it in this way that having his parents so violently harmed in front of him has made him forever stuck in a survival mode, which has no off button. Sadly, he's never proven wrong either because he was often targeted as the sole orphan heir to a billion dollar heritage. Then, Gotham is gotham, so crime never really ever went down. Then, his need to make people fear him, to make sure he was always one step ahead, became even stronger when he got placed among beings many times ridiculously stronger than him. Aliens, metahumans, demigods, etc. His survival button is, indeed, never switched off. He doesn't ever want to be caught off guard so violently, so callously that it changed his life forever, ever again. He's deathly afraid of it.
(Remember, these are headcanons. If you don't like them, block and move on. I don't interact with commenters who want to start an argument)

Louder for people in the back because I'm sick and tired of this shit.
The Problem Isn’t Robin. The Problem Is You Don’t Like Superhero Comics.
A Defense of Robin & the Sidekick Archetype in Comics.
Tumblr media
Every so often, a particular critique bubbles up from the depths of comic fandom discourse: the outrage over Batman’s use of a child sidekick. “How could a responsible adult train a kid to fight crime?”
Let’s get one thing straight right out of the gate: this isn’t a critique of Batman. It’s a misunderstanding or outright rejection of superhero comics as a genre.
Because the idea of a child or teenage sidekick isn’t unique to Batman. It’s baked into the genre’s DNA. Robin wasn’t some edgy, irresponsible afterthought added to make Batman more palatable. He debuted just one year after Batman himself, and was created specifically to give young readers someone to identify with. And it worked;Robin’s arrival doubled Batman’s sales.
Sidekicks Are Genre, Not Anomaly
Tumblr media
From Bucky Barnes to Speedy to Kid Flash to Aqualad, nearly every major superhero had a youthful counterpart. They serve multiple purposes: they humanize god-like heroes, ground fantastical adventures, give younger readers a place in the story, etc.
And guess what? Those sidekicks have all endured unspeakable trauma. Bucky died in the war. Speedy dealt with addiction. Wally spent decades in Barry Allen’s shadow. Donna Troy’s origin was rewritten into tragic nonsense more times than anyone can count.
But none of these characters attract the volume of moral panic that Robin does. Why? Because Batman is the most popular, most visible, and most psychologically dissected superhero on the planet. His mythology gets scrutinized through “real-world” logic. So when people see Batman training children to fight crime, they recoil. Not because it’s uniquely extreme, but because it’s more visible.
You Can’t Apply Real-World Morality to Myth
Tumblr media
If you apply real-world morality and logic too strictly to superhero stories, none of them hold up. Why doesn’t Spider-Man call Child Services instead of swinging into the night? Why do the X-Men keep putting teens in danger while talking about protecting them?
These stories aren’t morality plays rooted in realism. They’re modern myths, told in the language of drama, archetypes, and symbols. Robin isn’t “child endangerment.” He’s the light in Batman’s darkness. He represents hope, youth, resilience; a symbol younger readers are supposed to look up to, to teach them to stand against injustices and do the right thing. That’s why so many Robins exist, and why they all resonate with different eras.
The Genre Knows What It's Doing
Tumblr media
Comics are not oblivious to the implications. Entire storylines have interrogated the ethics of child sidekicks. A Death in the Family let fans decide Jason Todd’s fate. Batman and Robin repeatedly explored the tension of legacy and responsibility. Young Justice and Teen Titans were built on the premise of teens demanding their own agency rather than being side characters in someone else’s war.
The genre critiques itself, but it also embraces what works. And Robin works. He’s lasted longer, sold more, and evolved more richly than almost any sidekick in any medium. If you think Robin is just a tool of exploitation or lazy storytelling, you haven’t been paying attention to the last 80 years.
Admit You Want Something Else
Tumblr media
Let’s be honest: most people who rail against Robin don’t actually read superhero comics. Or if they do, they only want a narrow slice of them; gritty realism, moral absolutism, hardboiled antiheroes. That’s fine. You’re allowed to prefer that. But don’t pretend that your personal taste is some kind of ethical stance when the comics themselves do not promote the idea of a teen sidekick.
Robin exists because comics are for more than one kind of reader. Because sidekicks matter. Because legacy matters. Because Batman can’t be a symbol of fear without someone reminding him what hope looks like.

Okay but hear me out- the batkids as actual Vampires. Not bruce, just the kids, and bruce providing for them. Because he just has the tastiest blood.
Little Dick toddling over to Bruce, tears in his eyes because he ate his bloody dinner too fast and hes still hungry and Bruce just sighing and sticking out his hand and Dick lights up and they watch a movie while dick is happily gnawing on Bruce’s thumb and sucking his blood. Big Dick complains very loudly about how hungry he is and Bruce will glower at him before finally giving in and throwing an arm around his eldests shoulders and Dick pecks his cheek with a sweet “thank you dad.” before sinking his teeth into Bruce’s arm.
Little Jason would very politely come over and tug on his hand and Bruce would pick him up and let him bite his hand and drink, but Big Jason just pounces on Bruce from behind and sinks his teeth into Bruces shoulder/neck for blood.
Little Tim slipping five dollar bills into Bruce’s hand just before chomping his thigh and Big Tim very casually stabbing a needle into Bruce’s leg, extracting blood and then putting it into his coffee and walking away. Sometimes, if he’s feeling nostalgic, he will curl up with his head on bruce’s lap and actually bite him for blood, for pure blood, but he likes his coffee bruce blood blend better
Little Cass never once asked bruce for blood because she was scared, but Bruce would just scoop her into his arms and offer her his already cut open shoulder until she was comfortable enough scaling him like a tree and drinking from his shoulder. Big Cass still doesn't ask for blood, she just lands on his shoulders and bites his bicep.
Little Steph was a little vampire gremlin and any time she saw Bruce without clothes (since his children feed off of him Bruce wears very little, just a tank top and shorts and makes sure to shave as much as possible to provide ample biting space, but as Batman he still wears his full suit just easy to slip off certain parts so his kids can feed easily) she would suction onto him like a little affectionate leech and dig her little teeth into his back. Big Steph also likes his back and has much the same habits as little steph did.
Little Babs wasn't too keen on blood, but sometimes Bruce would offer her his forearm while she was working and she would work and eat. Big Babs has no qualms about taking his blood, but has few chances, so he stops by her Oracle hideout sometimes and just holds out his arm for her to drink
Little Damian thought drinking blood from a human was beneath him. Until he saw Cass doing it and wanted to follow her footsteps, but he cant climb bruce as well as her, so he just sank his teeth into Bruce’s calf. Big Damian will wait until Bruce sits or lays down and props his feet up and will then enjoy his calf blood.
Bruce Wayne who is covered, littered in bite scars of varying sizes, who was once knocked over by his three eldest sons because they had been on a mission away from him for a week and were hungry and before they even said hello just sank their teeth into his neck, hand and thigh. Bruce Wayne who’s majority of scars come from his children, not villains and who willingly offers up his neck to any one of his children if they seem hungry.
Bruce Wayne who, as Batman, will peel his protective bat suit arm off because Dick was hungry on a stake out.
Bruce Wayne who is not a vampire but his children all are and he’ll be damned if he deprives them their nutrients.
(selina kyle who is also a vampire and also gets her blood from bruce but from his-)

It would be especially funny to imagine this with the Bruce Wayne from DC Super Hero Girls (the 2019 one) because as far as I am concerned, he's the Bruciest Brucie that has ever Brucied. I mean, just look at him, lmaoo
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Edit: (Yes, that portrait was shown multiple times in the background of the show, just added this to drive home how wildly different this Brucie is from Batman lol)
OK, so like I know this would never actually happen, but I still think it would be dope as fuck.
I want something to happen where Bruce’s identity gets told to the whole world…like it’s a live stream thing. There are tons of people near him as well, and something happens for people to find out that he’s Batman.
At first, he tries to play it off like “no I’m not Batman. How could I ever be Batman” trying to crank up the Brucie-ness you know..
And then he starts to look around, and he realizes that he cannot convince any of these people that he’s not Batman and knows his identity is out.
And his whole face changes it turns into the Batman face, his serious face.
The world is shocked because they’ve never seen “Brucie Wayne” without his easy going smile.
And There’s probably like a villain thing going on at the same time and that’s why people figure out he’s Batman. So as Bruce Wayne, he takes down all of the villains that are there. And he’s doing all of his martial arts, just kicking their ass as Bruce Wayne in a nice suit.
At some point, somebody shoots him and it lands and he just keeps going because he’s Batman. He’s already done this but these people don’t know that so they’re all shocked that he’s just continuing to fight and win after being shot.
Once he’s taken down all of the villains, he’s covered in blood, suit ripped to shreds, exposing all of his scars. he stands up and looks around and sees that everyone is in complete and utter shock and runs.
I’m not really sure how I would end it. Maybe after he stands up and looks around he could call out for Superman to come get him and Clark just crashes in all worried and takes him and the batfam to the fortress to hide out for a while. Or he takes him to the manor so everybody can pack and then blow everything up I’m not sure but I would love to see that.

If there’s a thing I appreciate in EATM2, its seeing the growth between Ali’s bonds with the cast that has existed since Season 1. Rizwan, Alicia and General Rama were hostile towards him in S1, but they all have gone through a lot together, and now in EATM2, Rizwan is willing to drop anything to help Ali, General Rama trust Ali enough to bring him along during his rogue mission, and Alicia love him enough to the point of self-sacrifice.
Someone tell Season 1 Ali that he is very, very loved by the people he held dear, please.
